Reviews of Baylor Regional Park
Tamara Gordon
Fall colors make this the perfect spot. There is an observatory! Every other Saturday they set out the telescopes.
Campground was gorgeous. There is a boardwalk that takes you between the disc golf, walking trails and campground.
We were there for the 18 hole disc golf. Great open area for majority of holes. Several holes along the trees on the lakes walking path.
Beach was really nice next to a dock. Really relaxing!
RED on VFR
Very clean park that I wanted to visit for about 10 years. There is a disc golf court and plenty of picnic spots. I brought my motorcycle there, but be careful if you do the same as the roads aren't paved.
Michele Heveron
Great cross country groomed ski trails! Loved the moonlight ski night! The sled dogs were a blast to watch.
Mushir Ahmed Basheer
It’s a park for the first time campaigners. The sites are adjacent to each other, most of them were in RVs and may be looking forward to watch stars at the observatory. I camped at site 46, muddy and it was down the slope. There was no grass and it rained that weekend making things muddy. Earlier reviews mentioned lot of mosquitoes, however in the last week of august there were none .. maybe few.
The trail is around a mile away to a beautiful lake and observatory. The only thing disappointed me was the condition of the site. The bathrooms were clean, the staff were friendly and nice. Thank you.
Jami Berg
We had our family photos taken here. A beautiful park with a lot of natural scenery. It was busy with an archery class, picnic-ers, and campers, but at no time did it feel crowded. Very relaxing, easy to get to, and the kiddos had fun on the playground for a bit after we were done.
Daniel Randolph
Nice campsites that are nicely spread apart. Only one restroom for the whole campground seemed odd. There is a nice beach, playground, lots of space. The campground was very well cared for.
Josh Ives
My family and I attended a public viewing at the observatory. It's a beautiful place for dusk/sunset. While it was an overcast sky, the volunteers tried to make it fun for people and showed us what was observable. We'll be back when there are clear skies.
zach Hecksel
Great disc golf course!! Very nice park. Have never camped here but a party could easily be hosted out here by the lake! Very relaxing!
William Jackson
Family camped for the Minnesota Astronomical Society "Camping with the Stars". This is a great park with outstanding facilities. Perfect for a family camping experience.
Kat Nelton
Came for the Sectionals great place great race!! Will be back!
Zach
Very nice swimming beach, playground, fishing pier, volleyball court, baseball field, disc golf course, and walking trails.
Chris Nelson
Great place to drop your kids off and leave for the day Play Place Tacoma the midwest's largest Observatory. And in the winter time have a Big Spring just off the beach so you can go there and Skip Water on your snowmobile.
These pictures were taken with my Galaxy S5 through the telescopes at the Observatory
Jennifer Bickman
Was wanting to go on the swamp walk with my daughter as I went on when I was young. We found a playground and a different trail to go on.
Heidi Lipelt
It's a beautiful park with lots of space & usually no other people.
Sara
A little bare, not much woods.
Melissa Greschner
Well, I remember Baylor Park last year and there wasn't as much seaweed as this year. The folks who care for the lake weren't exactly prepared for its summer opening, if they clean it at all. I'm not really sure, but the water this year seems dirtier than last year. It didn't stop me or a bunch of kids and their families though, I mean this is Minnesota after all. Even if we're having fun, the dirtier you are, the better. Shows you're having fun and don't care. Park hours are still the same, rules are still the same, no lifeguard on duty, no dogs on the beach, things like that. Overall, Baylor Park has always been a fun place to go to hang with family and friends, barbecuing, fishing, swimming and getting a tan. And most likely, I'll keep on going, because its free! ❤
Tammy Trebesch
A beautiful park. Great walking trails.
Melissa Warfield
Baylor Regional Park has a very nice boardwalk trail. My friend and I saw a beautiful cattail marsh. We walked a trail that has a basswood forest along with a native prairie. Baylor Regional Park has an observatory. The observatory has star gazing on Saturday nights if the skies are not cloudy. Just to let you know the website states the star gazing starts at 7 PM. We waited until the sun went own. Baylor Regional Park should state the star gazing will start at dusk instead. If you like star gazing, please go to the Eagle Lake Observatory at Baylor Regional Park. The stars will not let you down. Enjoy your star gazing night!
Katelyn Capistrant
This is a beautiful place to camp! They have some neat activities like archery and disc golf. Unfortunately the beach was closed and there was no indication of that on their website which was really pretty disappointing. Cute boardwalk over the swamp. Disc golf course wasn't too difficult for beginners which is what most of us were. It wasn't too busy but was definitely fun. I would recommend this place for a few days but especially with the beach closed and the observatory reservation only and booked up, it could get pretty boring after more than a few days.
Teri Jackson
Weekday camped... so we had some “space” but spots seem tight if busy. Only 2 bathroom” houses”. Nice walking paths- beach is absolutely NOT swimmable. loved the disk golf and the playgrounds seemed newer/nice. Pete is camp maintainer.. he’s very nice, also keeps rules tight. MILLIONS of acorns fall all night/ day long !we had fun for 2 nights...
Brittany Misuraca
I LOVE visiting Baylor Park. I live nearby so I've never camped here, but I enjoy coming to walk the trails. I have a baby so I appreciate all of the stroller-friendly trails. My husband does wildlife photography and enjoys seeing Eagles by the lake and piliated woodpeckers in the woods. The boardwalk is cool, the wooded trails are nice, there's a playground and so much to do. This park is a gem!
Anne LaPlante
Love the groomed CC Ski trails!
Ethan Hunt
I think it's good for disc golf.. little play area n the beach was not good second time when we visited it was full of goose poop..it was good for first time. It has observatory but not sure if it's open for public.. The park is good for older kids, adults for walking, disc golf, observatory and little..
Mr. “AA-RON” Merta
Absolutely beautiful and peaceful. Just wish it had a better kids play ground that was more small kid friendly and maybe even a Little Rock wall since my little ones love to climb things.
Renée Gherity
We got married here and even years later take our young child back to swim, play disc golf or on the playground, and have a picnic. The grounds are beautifully kept, as well as the out buildings. They also host the Minnesota Astronomical Society events, this happened the day of our wedding. And there was plenty of space and parking. We rented the large building, used the facility all afternoon and evening and even had a bonfire. It was lovely that day and we've had fun each time we went.
Zane Pace
Very large park and nice, simple playground.
Judy Mumford-Torres
Nice campsites and trails.
Although there are signs everywhere and posted in the rules for dogs to be leashed, it is not enforced! There was a site with 5 dogs and others with one or more running loose.
We were camping with temps in the low 30s the entire weekend. It would've been great to have heated shower and bathrooms.
Mike Hanson
Wonderful park with seating, picnic, and grilling areas.
Beach is well maintained and has a great fishing dock.
Lovely spot for relaxing
Wes Dunser
The grounds are incredibly well maintained. This public park feels like a 5 star golf course. From the way signage, to the electric gates, to the smooth and pot-hole free gravel roads. Everything about this park is wonderful and should be applauded. The picnic grounds and buildings appear to be new, clean, well maintained, and are very inviting.
There is nothing about this park that has been overlooked or neglected.
The Onan Observatory is seated majestically atop a high hill and perfectly blends that sensing and intuitive experience sages and bards have for all of time attempted to capture. The serenity of the present; the pleasing way we are automatically attracted to the beautiful flora and fauna. The blend of the greens, blues, yellows, reds, and all colors on the ground that surround us; seem to pull us uncontrollably in-toward them, like a honey bee unable to resist a flower.
As night falls upon us, a friend gently nudges our attention away from looking down at our phones. It's the observatory quietly pointing with a smiling face, eyes looking upward, and pointer finger toward the sky. As we gaze up and into the big picture of the universe. We are again pulled uncontrollably, this times towards the heavens. For a moment without knowing it's happened, all of our worries vanish. They are as distant in our own minds as are the ends of the night sky. Suddenly, we're all children, filled with wonder and awe as we stare across our celestial landscape, our minds moving faster than our thoughts, filling with questions, images, and emotions, at the speed of dreams. Soon our senses and intuition sync as we land softly on the firm foundation of our profoundly deep and sincere gratitude for being here now alive.
David Johnson
Nice campground! Lots of trees and shade, good layout for privacy per camp site!
Ryan Schroder
Great park and campground! Access to two beaches most days, an awesome playground, a park specific walking/biking path that also connects to outside trails, ample bathrooms, and great sized campsites.
Kallen Mjoen
Nicely kept park with plenty of camping space. Friendly and helpful hosts. Cheap camping. After 12/31/2019 there will be no parking fees. Pretty hiking trails that lead through fields and woods for you or your furry little friends (pet friendly park) to explore.
CAM3L
The place was nice but had small lots squeezed kind of tight together. The price though was cheap which was nice! They have a nice floating boardwalk, park for the kids, ice and wood on site if you needed some. The lake was good for fishing but filthy for swimming. The lake just had an outbreak of E. Coli 2 weeks after we left.
Kyle Lippert
I love this park, but I would live it more if it had concrete tee pads for the disc golfers. Also, some of the brush they cleared away was the only interesting part of whole 12. But at least they are actively maintaining it--they just don't always think like disc golfers.
jose ramon
Great course to play disc golf as solo or with friends and family. The course is easy for beginners or regulars. The field is really open except for like a few holes but it is still a good course. The down side is the tee pad, they are marked but there is no tee pads on any holes.
Larry Kramer
Nice campground. They really enforce number of tents and not looking like a group in the tent camping area, but in the electric sites you can get 50 people together and party until midnight without worrying about keeping other people up. I'll go back, but next time I'll be on the partying side of the equation.
Shannon Choat
We had such an amazing experience at Baylor Regional Park. The staff are really nice and very helpful. We love that they offered a free class for kids on Saturday mornings. When we would buy packs of wood, they would deliver it to our campsite right away. The bathrooms are very well maintained and everything seems so well kept. My family and friends can't wait to book our next camping trip there.
Angie Sink
Picture this.....July 4th weekend 2020. It's like 92 degrees with humidity in the 80's, it's so hot even the sun was sweating. We had been all set up for about a half an hour with the air on because it was like 112 degrees in the camper. Next thing you know the 30 amp breaker pops off, we reset it, goes off again and again. We called Linda at the office, she called Bob, the camp host and he came out within like 10 minutes. He reset it and 15 minutes later it pops again. Bob called Mike the park manager and he came right out, changed the breaker and saved the long hot weekend for us. They were so nice and right on top if the problem...definite 5 stars, thank you!
Joe McMahon
Clean park, small. Lean beach.
Fishing pier entirely overgrown. Not a foot of fish able water anywhere along the park access or the fishing pier.
Heather Breyer
6 yr old thinks star parties are "SUPER GREAT!" We saw our a bunch of stars and our first nebula with gigantic telescopes. Great experience! Mnastro.org
Paula Noll
Nice little park, good amenities & well groomed walking trails. Very nice beach & shelters/ bathrooms. Spring maple syrup making & the observation area, make great for recreation & education alike.
Andrew Anauo
Nice open spaces and paths for walking. Playgrounds are a bit small for the older kids. The wooden boardwalk needs quite a bit of work.
Wendy Priolo
Beautiful scenery! Beach area nice, clean and had a fun water feature for younger kids similar to a water table. Fun time had by all!!
Carey Elliott
Very nice park, includes trails, camping. Astronomical observatory, swimming lake. Looking forward to going back in warmer weather.
amanda saarela
Stayed memorial weekend, great place to camp with kids. Fishing, swimming, observatory, and playground all in walking distance. The grounds are nicely maintained and they deliver wood to your site. Very convenient.
Barbara Anderson
Great park. Good running trails.
Andrew Brandt
The disc course would get 5 stars if they poured concrete teepads. Otherwise a great free park course that is not highly trafficked simply because of its location further west.
Scott Johnson
It was so easy and affordable to rent cross-country skis. Staff was very friendly and gave some great pointers to us as beginners!
Julie Kuenzel
Great park with lots of recreational opportunities just outside of NYA. Clean, lots of walking paths, disc golf, star watching, camping, canoeing and much, much more
Vic W
If you like to go stargazing, this is a perfect place away from the cities to go! Absolutely silent at night, beautiful view of the night sky.
Virginia Berquist
We met some family friends that put a lot of volunteer hours into the observatory. They actually have Star Parties every other weekend, one tonight. They are being recognized nationally on the 11-14 of July. If you want to learn about the stars, this is the place to be!
