Staff was very helpful and friendly in helping me pick out a piece of gear that I did not know much about. They didn’t just push the most expensive but gave me the appropriate information for me to make the best decision for me. Since I am a member, they informed me that I had a year to try the gear out and if I didn’t like it, I could return it. They also told me if they had a sale in the next 14 days on this product, they would do a price match. That’s very good customer service and standing behind their products!

I have made a few recent purchases from this store and the most recent one seemed to have a few issues. I called the store and got very nice customer service who gave me the number of someone who could help my issue. I expected to have a long wait time before a long conversation, but after a few minutes of waiting, all they needed was for me to confirm my email. Then they were able to tell me that the issue was already taken care of and that I was just viewing something incorrectly. Even more so, they fixed the issue while still talking to me!

Great outdoor store with a nice variety of brands and items. I've gone here for outdoor running gear, winter coat, sports bra, hammock, Yeti and Hydroflask bottles, hats and gloves and climbing shoes. There's a lot to chose from in store, but even more online. The staff is always friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Definitely worth becoming a member! The one time fee allows you to rack up annual points that turn into dollar savings.

There is quite a lot packed into this one place. Climbing gear, hiking, running, biking, camping, backpacking, snowboarding, and walking gear. The staff were all very friendly and I didn't wait long to be offered help. Membership is a one-time fee of $30 (at the time of this writing). The use of the bike repair shop alone would make membership worth the cost, but there are other benefits as well.

Went to buy hiking boots here. Pretty good selection, but little on the pricey side. However the ones I purchased were comfortable. Large selection of clothes for the outdoors. Sales people were not pushy.

Hands-down, one of the best camping stores in the Milwaukee area. Friendly, helpful staff, great selection, and tons of useful items that can be hard to find elsewhere. If you love to camp, bike, or hike, this is a great place to go!

My favorite camping store. A little pricey but their gear holds up really well. One thing I don't like is that their credit card utilizes a bank that funds fossil fuels (us bank). They have an awesome selection of products that are known to be rated very well. They sometimes don't have the newest products because they wait to make sure it holds up before they sell it on their shelves I think. So I trust that what they sell is going to be quality made. Customer service is always excellent. They have a useful 1-year guarantee on all their products. If something you bought isnt what you thought it was going to be or if it doesn't live up to your standards, they take it back, no questions asked within a year of purchase. I have returned two pairs of boots in the past without a problem. Not due to quality, but I have ankle hardware and some boots rub on it. They have classes, trips, "garage sales". Truly a unique store.

Took my brand new skis in for a hot wax and to have tips detuned. When I got them back the tips had been damaged and returned to me with very sharp burrs that unfortunately I didn't notice until I got home. Needless to say I brought them back and they sanded down the offending burrs to my satisfaction. They were very friendly which I appreciate, the extra trip and time wasted not so much. Cheers!

I went in the store yesterday to check out some Garmin watches. Right when I walked in someone asked me if I needed help. I didn't catch his name but he was able to answer all of my questions. I was actually surprised that he knew so much about the Garmin watches. I was fully expecting someone to bring me to the watches and let me look at the display and leave. This guy was very knowledgeable and friendly and did not rush me at all.

Staff are knowledgeable and prices aren't too bad but the selection is fairly lackluster. If you're an ultralight hiker don't plan on getting too much gear here. The membership is a great option for a lot of outdoor enthusiasts and there are still plenty of useful items that can be found here. If you have a certain brand in mind for some gear be open to the possibility that they might not have it. The stock is low right now but that is only due to covid, otherwise it's good.

I had a membership for a few years prior and ordered everything online but I decided to go in store to see what they had, an impressive selection of top quality products with prices the same as they offer on line, they have everything you need to build a kit for any journey, highly recommend if you're like me and are too impatient for shipping. Rei is a great place. It was my first time going there and walking in I was over whelmed by all the things in there. They had bikes and climbing equipment and dry food. There was winter gear. Luckily when I walked in there was the greeter at the front door and she was very friendly and was explaining things to me. She was very nice. I had a online order and went to pick up and the cashier was very friendly and was explaining things to me and showing me different things about the back pack I had purchased and I didn't know about it. I will def be coming back to browse and purchase things. You can really tell the employees are into the outdoors and they are very knowledgeable and don't mind helping you out or showing you different things and I really appreciate that because a lot of times you go somewhere and the employees hide or ignore you to the point that you don't want to spend money. This wasn't the case at REI. Keep up the good work

Tom was extremely helpful in a shoe department today. It was actually my first visit to an REI. He took the time with me to weigh many different options and talk with about the co-op. After about a half hour, we landed on a great pair of Hoka's. Huge shoutout to Tom! I was also in need of a trail pack and unfortunately never had someone come to the front of the store to help with a pack fitting at the desk. I did some general fitting myself and ended up finding a pack that I liked.

Greeted at the door. All the staff were wearing masks. 👏👏👏 Asked for help with accessory parts for an old Yakima roof rack. The staff were able to show me the parts I needed. Let me take photo of computer screen so I could remember the needed part. Referred me to Yakima website for parts because it is for a very old rack and would be available through them. I was grateful for the help because I wasn't sure if I had to trash the rack. Also bought a "Solo" smokeless firepit. Staff carried the large/heavy solo firepit box to checkout counter. I am so pleased with the quality brands of waterproof low hiking shoes for my family. The Labor day 20-25% sale certainly makes their prices reasonable. Plus you get the unbeatable REI membership benefit of a year to return if dissatisfied. However with such great quality, I have yet to return. I have purchased and used their Keen and Northface brands with no problems over several years. Expect to pay about $100 for great quality at REI. Why pay less elsewhere and then find out you have to buy replacements more often for lower quality?

Yesterday was my first visit at REI. I was looking for carabiners when I noticed their bike shop. I happened to have my bike in my car because I just pulled it from storage and had been meaning to take it in for a little check, so I just took it out and brought it over. Moon at the bike center was AMAZING. Super knowledgeable, helpful, and clearly passionate about his work. He was honest about what he thought my bike needed and didn't try to push extra services/products on me. I have very little knowledge about the innerworkings of bikes and he explained everything clearly and got my bike checked and in riding condition within the hour. Not only that, but he also gave valuable advice about choosing locks and even hooked me up with a rack to put a crate over my back tire. Seriously, I was blown away. Everyone was nice and respectful of covid safety measures from the moment I walked into the store. I always appreciate it with a company takes mask wearing and social distancing seriously. Like I said, it was my first time going into the store, but I walked away with a co-op membership, not because it was pushed on me or anything, but just because I was so dang happy with the service and I knew I'd be coming back for any sort of bike or outdoor gear needs. Thanks Moon and everyone at REI Brookfield. You all made my day!

I needed some hiking equipment and my daughter said I should go to REI during their annual sale. I went the first Saturday of their annual sale and the store was very crowded with shoppers. Being patient I was able to track down very busy sales people to help me, they were friendly and very knowledgeable. REI is by no means inexpensive but all their equipment is top quality. Online, REI still needs to learn to compete with Amazon for online orders shipped fast direct to consumers.

My first REI experience was in San Diego, my second was here. Had a 50/50 employee experience in Brookfield. One was so helpful I felt bad about bugging him. But I did for multiple products. Another *was* very helpful but ended up ordering the wrong color pants. Out of dozens of REI purchases over the years, that was small potatoes. Especially given their returns policy. Bar none, it's the best I've ever seen and used in my half-century as a shopper. Their selection is incredible and prices are great. Especially given the very high quality of house goods and mainstream products. Google and compare for yourself. Don't know about the bike-boys negative experiences below but in other areas these people are worth talking to. BTW, I neither work for nor know any employees of REI.

As always, all REI employees are very helpful and happy to lend a helping hand. They are taking COVID protocol seriously (which is appreciated), so there currently will likely be a line. However, it does move pretty quickly. Masks are not required, but are recommended.

I love going to REI it's great place to get all your outdoor gear. If your a crafty shopper you can some great deals if you look hard enough. I found really good deals on two pair of hiking pants. The employees always have a great attitude and can help you with all your questions.

I'm a long time customer, having bought lots of biking gear here. Much better than local bike shops where they often push more expensive products. So glad that they require masks, as I don't want to pass the covid virus onto my octogenarian parents. If you don't require masks during a pandemic, you may as well permit smoking in your place. Covid is more dangerous than second hand smoke. I'm also glad that they don't allow dogs, as I don't want a strange dog to impose itself on me while I'm shopping. Anyway, I always go to REI, whether it be for tires, tubes, or shoes. They used to carry a lot more variety of cycling clothing, and I wonder why the inventory is down. Their Co-op brand of shorts/jerseys/jackets is durable and economical.

We backpack in the Himalaya every year for a month, and I have gotten much of my needed equipment at REI. They have knowledgeable staff and good products. I am most impressed with a return policy and service. Twice this week I have had to return things, one defective (no problem at all), and one an ill-fitting gift without receipt. I still got an exchange Large for Medium with no cost or hassle. Wow. Who does that?

I am a big REI fan. The gear selection is pretty good, but the return policy is what makes the difference for me. Of course you will pay a premium for things that you can return for whatever reason at any time, but the assurance is worth it in most cases. I can't speak to the staff because I do my own research and do not really solicit their opinions when I am shopping. Overall, great company.

Went in to get my first pair of climbing shoes. After entering the store I was asked by a friendly lady if I needed any help finding anything right away or if I was just looking, and since I knew what I wanted but not where to find it, I told her so. She pointed me in the direction of the climbing section and asked if I needed help finding a pair, so I explained that I knew exactly which shoe I was looking for (Black Diamond men’s Momentum), it was just a matter of sizing. So she politely let me know if I had any questions to just ask any associate, and went on her way. No pushing. Not trying to sell me anything. Not pimping a certain brand. It was great. So I found my size and kinda just hung out over in that section, checking stuff out and seeing how the shoes felt on my feet (Amazing!), again, nobody bothered me or tried pushing anything on me. Nothing. It was great. The cashier was really nice and asked if I wanted to join the co-op today, which I refused, and she did not push it on me, but did mention the 20% off coupon I’d get and be able to use today if I did join. Not for me, today, but I will be back and I’ll take advantage of that later. Overall my experience was great and I’d highly recommend visiting to anybody looking for specialty outdoor gear, or pretty much anything for biking, hiking, climbing, and camping. Prices are great as well. No markup at all over Black Diamond’s price on the shoes I purchased (and now love), which is a huge bonus. This part is an edit: I forgot to mention that they don’t really sell “cheap” gear. If you’re looking for discount equipment, maybe try another store. I will say, though, if I’m trusting my life to a rope or small piece of metal, I’m a firm believer in “you get what you pay for”.

I’ve had my share of customer experiences at outdoor/sporting goods stores, and have worked in the industry for almost a decade. Nowhere have I experienced the reoccurring level of service given by Tom in the footwear department. Time after time he’s willing to go back and forth looking for different sizes/colors, steps back to let us think about the shoes and has NEVER tried to push a sale! The whole staff at BK is great, but Tom is a cut above.

Love the selection and sales; I shop here at least once every time I’m visiting the area (2-3 times per year). Staff is friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that they don’t seem to have enough talented mechanical staff to assemble and service the volume of bikes they sell. Mine was sloppily put together, with a Frankenstein’s brain cable pattern and poor chain connection. That misaligned connection bent a link. I got tired of trying to schedule repair by REI in a reasonable time frame, so I paid Wheel & Sproket to fix it well and promptly. Next time I need a bike I’ll just go straight there.

I love this store! Contrary to other reviews, I have found employees to be helpful, and if they don't know something they will find someone that does. They aren't a specialty shop, they are an all around outdoors shop. If you have an involved technical question, go to your local bike shop instead. They also do a lot for the community like trail building and river cleanup and offer clinics on all types of sports. This is a great store and I love shopping here!

Getting help from the employees is hit or miss: a few of them are experts and others know less about the merchandise than I do. Still, I have not found a better place in metro Milwaukee to buy high-quality outdoor gear at fair prices.

It's REI... fantastic outdoor sports shop. Very knowledgeable staff, friendly and happy. They are very reasonable for prices and good value. They have a store brand for tents that's as good as pretty much any of the name brands.

FANTASTIC CUSTOMER SERVICE! We bought a Thule rooftop carrier that failed after minimal use. My kids recently gave me a Patagonia Nano Puff jacket for my birthday. I loved the jacket. Unfortunately it didn't fit. When I took it back to REI to exchange for a larger size, I found that Patagonia doesn't make that jacket in plus sizes, not even an XXL which would have been perfect for me. I looked around REI for another jacket to replace mine but found that they don't have plus sizes in the store, and very few plus sized styles online. I returned the jacket and went to another store and bought a jacket very much like the Patagonia jacket that didn't fit. I wonder if REI doesn't think that larger people want to purchase clothing in their stores? And why do their manufacturers think that only people up to size XL should wear their clothes?

They seem to generally carry quality products and have knowledgeable staff. Only 3 stars due to my extreme dissapointment with their bicycle repair shop. I brought an old Bontrager Race to them for their top of the line tune up. Got it back with the brakes toed improperly, deraileur adjusted incorrectly, cable ends sticking out inches too far all over. In addition, neither of the two most pressing issues were addressed. Finally, they advertise the tune up as a tear down, clean and lube. I replaced my pedals within 2 weeks of getting the bike back and found no sign of lubrication on my old pedals. In no way could I have been more dissapointed with the service for my bike. If you have a bike you care about, take it to a dedicated bike shop. Chances are you'll do much better than I did. Lesson learned.

I made a major purchase of a bike this year. It was ordered online and assembled within a couple of weeks. Everything was going perfect until I came in for the 100 miles warranty tune up after the initial break in period. The tune up was free, so it was desirable for me to come in. First off, I had to leave my bike there for a week due to the waiting line was long and there is only 1 or 2 service techs on staff during the day. Second, on my first ride after the tune up, the front derailer twisted sideways and the chain dropped off! I had to ride home the final 4 miles in first gear because if I changed into any other gear the chain would rub. When I brought it back in they made the adjustment on the spot free of cost and everything was hunky dory. However, on my next ride out of the shop, the middle gears on the rear derailer started changing by themselves every time I went over a bump or pushed hard on the pedals. Granted I paid nothing for the service, but I will be unlikely to pay them for the next tune up. That being said the member benefits are great, even though many of the clothes are severely over priced.
