Reviews of Jefferson County Memorial Forest
The Welcome Center is the perfect place to start your visit to Jefferson Memorial Forest. There are trail maps, public restrooms, souvenirs, insect repellent, and outdoor picnic tables in the shade. You can get trail recommendations from the very helpful staff. On Thursday, June 9, 2022, the temperature was 70 degrees with low humidity and bright, sunny skies. From the Welcome Center,I took the Yost Ridge Trail to the Mitchell Lake connector trail and the round trip was 3 to 3 1/2 miles or about 1 1/2 hours. This moderate trail was relatively easy to hike with up and down sections and not much traffic. I passed a couple with two dogs, six solo hikers, and a vacation bible study group. The lake is scenic and the day I visited, there were four canoes with kids learning to paddle. Near the lake, there are two picnic tables and a trash barrel. The trail is shaded the entire way. If you get the trail map at the Welcome Center, it's easy to know where you are on the trail. The forest and facility are quite clean. Ample free parking is available at the Welcome Center.
Great place to camp close to the city! Sites are spread apart nicely so you have some privacy. Port-a-potties were clean (considering that they are port-a-potties) and easy to walk to. Water spicket was easy to walk to. Hiking trails easy to get through from campsites. I loved our site (I think it was Family site #4). Our site was grassy and there was a nice bit of grass right across the road for our son to play on. The tent pad was in good shape with small pea gravel. There was a blue bird box on the fence across the road with a family of blue birds who would visit us at our site. In the woods we came across a black snake sunning on a log and a turtle. Birds and bird sounds were plentiful. It was just a beautiful place. One thing to note - planes do fly over from the airport. It not all the time and the height of the plane depends on the weather and such. Didn't bother us at all, but just wanted to throw that tidbit of info out as some people might not like that.
Good place for hiking, there are trails for everyone. Outdoor barbecues are all over the place. They alos have bathrooms and playground for children. The fishing is pretty good and the place is well kept.
Really nice. Hiked the Yost Ridge Trail to Lake Mitchell with my 3 dogs and it was beautiful. Seems Copperheads are common in the area but we didn't see any. Whew.
I enjoyed my time at this forest during my stay in Louisville, KY. I visited most of the places here but Jefferson is something special. Nothing can replace mother nature and you will get the feel of it here.
We barely scratched the surface of the very large park system known as Jefferson Memorial Forest. From what we hiked and viewed that day, it should be added to your list. If you live in Louisville, KY or you just like to hike new places, make time to use of this wonderful gift.
Things to know. Plan your trip by visiting MemorialForest.com or WildernessLouisville.org, pick an area and click on Hit the Trails. As to directions, make sure to use the actual address of 11311 Mitchell Hill Rd, Fairdale, KY 40118. The Welcome Center through Google Maps will get you lost!
Absolutely GORGEOUS property thats very well maintained. Its an honest oasis of nature and relaxation thats located mere minutes from the heart of Louisville and the trail systems here are to die for!!
In addition to checking out the hiking trails available, i HAD to find out more about their campground as soon as i discovered there was 1 and, with a lot of patience, was finally able to get in for a night. The sites themselves were spread out nicely, offering each site ample privacy and, much like the rest of the forest, was maintained nicely. However, there wasnt any mention of ALL the airplane traffic youd be privy to -- usually in the wee hours of the morning, wwaaaay before the sun rises!!, and i found i wasnt able to go back to sleep as its literally nonstop. I finally set my timer for 10mim and counted planes heard in that time span andnit was 8. The time when finished was 4am...
Largest urban forest in the United States! I love it here! 😀 …
We rode the horses here for the second time. This time we brought friends! The trails are among the best I've ridden. Virtually no rocks, which is really saying something around here. There aren't a lot of choices if trails. It's essentially 3 loops with connectors. And if you like walking straight lines, this place isn't for you. It's very curvy. But it's beautiful and not crowded. We will be back.
A great place for a weekend of camping and hiking! The group sites were spacious and spread out from surrounding sites. The water on-site and port-a-potties nearby made for a nice, casual camping experience but still felt like being in the wilderness. The ability to walk to trails from the campsite was a huge bonus! Would camp here again.
Beautiful place to visit in the fall or at night
I thought the park was absolutely gorgeous during the fall season and the hiking trails were varied from easy, moderate to strenuous activity level. The trek to the lake was enjoyable experience and so tranquil.
This place is awesome. Hiking is amazing for what you can get in the greater Louisville area. Some friends and I went camping here and we paid a relatively low cost for one night and it was very peaceful. We were at the group site and it was huge. A big grill so we can cook and a nice clearing so we can see the night sky. I will say that if you camp here, expect to hear planes land and take off since it is well within line of the SDF runways. Would definitely go back.
Went here for the first time with a buddy of mine, I loved it, didn't see a lot of nature, but what I did notice is that the paths were wide in many places and nice pic locations o if you got an eye for it and lots of trails. We took the mile long trail, which took us by a small lake in the forest, be careful on some trails though, if you get off and wonder a bit, it may be hard trying to find your way back to it, but beautiful and brought back memories of my days at Otter Creek.
I absolutely love the Paul Yost horse trails. They are always in good shape, even after a hard rain. Sure wish I lived closer.
Another beautiful park that I love to visit and take hikes on. Let's park is great for family picnics in the good place to go walk in with your pets they've got good fishing spots, and spots to grill out with the family. They've got a visitation center were you can go to see if they're doing any local events at the park.
I love it here. It's got great hiking trails, wonders views, abundance of wild life, a well stocked lake for viewing or fishing, picnic/grilling area, and a small play ground for the kids. Would recommend for anyone to stop here..
Great trails, easy access, and very nice camp sites.
It's a great place been since I was a kid with many things to do!
There a lake for fishing.
Playground for kids.
Next to the park there is a covered picnic area on both sides to have party's or picnics.
Nice long concrete walk way into the hills where it meets up with the main hiking trail.
Very nice place for a family day or a fishing day!
This was one of most difficult holes I've ever done. Bring water and be prepared for some steep climbs. I would recommend using a map of you haven't been before because it is huge.
After a decent amount of researching where to trail run, I came here during my fourth trip to Louisville. Highly recommend it. Decent elevation gain/loss, multiple possible mileage, trail was pretty empty even when the parking lot was full. Note for newbies like me: if you park at the Welcome Center (because there's water and trail maps) most trail segments will start up top going up the stairs to the white boardwalk, then right.
There are some great hiking trails here. The scenery is beautiful and the air is fresh.
One of my favorite places to hike in Louisville, very beautiful scenery and the trails are well marked.
This is a breathtaking place for quiet walks through the forest, hiking trails, horse trails, picnics, just about anything.
Great place to bring the whole family for a hike. We were there during November and spent the day with our dogs crunching through leaves. The Purple Heart Trail is great for beginners looking for a workout.
Great times out there. Lots of trails to go on, other hikers seem nice. They seem to have decent upkeep on the trails and small bridges
I absolutely love this forest!! It's so close to where I live and the scenic drives are so nice. Paulys gap, Blevins gap and Scott's gap are gorgeous! Also the horine reservation and Paul Yost Center are great places to go. So many trails to walk on.
Great place to walk with easy paved trails and excellent hills to walk. The lake is nice to look at. Great place to walk. Dog friendly as well.
Great place to ground yourself, to breathe, trails are gorgeous, playground areas throughout for the kids, huge lake to fish in. Just all around great place.
Good trails to walk around, and enjoy surprise findings of all kinds of wild mushroom
Awesome park, with plenty of trails and activities. Great views. Good for quick visit or a trip with the family.
Great Place To Bond With Our Earth Mother💚And Sky Father💙!! There Are Alot Of Hills So It Requires Stamina, Dress Accordingly. May Your Hike Be A Profoundly Eye Opening One And Bring You Closer To The Creator.
I was surprised to find plenty of places to park and the trails seemed to be pretty well marked. The best part is that the area(s) that I visited were very clean, well maintained and easily accessible.
Great place to hike. Flat trails and hilly trails too.
Beautiful place to go hiking. There are trails for all level of hikers. The Mitchell Hill trail is a nice moderate trail with beautiful views!
Nice place to walk if you know where you are going. Signage is poor in places for first timers. Would be nice if bathrooms and water stations were marked as well.
Best trails (and hills) in Metro Louisville...available routes up to and exceeding 20 miles. Perfect for trail running.
It's a beautiful campground and SO worth the drive! It's nice and private so you aren't directly looking at someone else's camping spot, and you arent directly on top of your neighbors either! I will be going to this spot more frequently for sure! I give 5 stars entirely!
Absolutely beautiful! Can't wait for my knee to heal from surgery so we can go hiking for real next time!
I love this place. So many memories here. It's so beautiful. Living the natural play area❣️
Great place to go to get out of the city, without really getting out of the city. The trails are marked well and offer different levels of exertion. Stop by the visitor center to get trail maps and other information about JMF.
This place is full of hidden GEMS! GO-TO close, quick back to nature trip! I've been hiking trails here for years & I notice people respecting it more & leaving no trace❤
Love the view.. They have a scenic driving rout and the walking trail. It was really nice to take the boys out. The section we walked, allowed horses to walk through. At the end of our walk we got to see some riders and their horses. It was quite simple and relaxing.
We love hiking here. It is so close to our home and well marked trails. You can't go wrong for the area. It doesn't have the breathtaking views of Eastern Kentucky but it is only 20 minutes from downtown Louisville.
Its just the neatest place. Long trails, dog friendly, song birds, lots of fun. Get outdoors!
There's a beautiful lake if your up for hiking, but no finishing allowed. I enjoyed myself immensely. It's wondrous, secluded, clean, and refreshing. It's like my secret paradise. There are different trails you can take. There's a wide open space if someone was looking for a place to have a family reunion for everyone to play games like you could set up a volleyball net, or soccer goals, even big enough for a baseball or softball diamond, or enough space for some football. They have nice places where you can set up your RVs with a safe place to cook your food on the grill. They have multiple porta potties, and keep them cleaned. It's just a very nice place that is family friendly, but also somewhere I felt comfortable and safe being alone to clear my head. If I could meditate this is a relaxing peaceful place I’d choose. Occasionally they have events with live music
Very peaceful on some days
I've been going to JMF for years, I love the variety of the scenery on the different trails. It's great to see so many people enjoying the park.
Great place to walk and to take your kids great place for a weekend dad to hang out with his kids play Frisbee walk the dogs
We only stopped by for a short visit today. A really good place to get your hike on. I really like hiking here in th he fall an winter when it is cool outside.
One of the Biggest urban parks in the country. It's got good trails for everyone! The views are solid especially during the fall and winter. Thees plenty of opportunities to see deer, snakes, ticks, etc. The visitor center is helpful with any questions regarding which trail is best for you. There's plenty of hikes that lead to a beautiful Outlook to Louisville and a sunset.
Great place to hike dog friendly and easy trails
Peaceful place to go hiking. Lots of trails for all levels. Great photo opportunity to capture beautiful landscapes.
Not where it's supposed to be but we know where he is. R.I.P. Jefferay Bernard Woolen Momma and your brother and sister Love you and you will never be forgotten!!! ❤🙏😇💝 …
Great place to hike! We went on the siltstone trail (we only ended up doing 4 miles each way) and it was lovely! It is VERY secluded once you get going...so id recommend not going alone. This is not a trail for beginners, because the ascent is ~700 ft. Highly recommend!
Hands down my favorite hiking spot near louisville. Lots of great trails, dog friendly beautiful and quite.
Some beautiful plant and fungi life out here! Definitely recommend a pair of hiking boots though!!
Beautiful place to go for camping with friends or family!!
I love the hikes and all the little ponds and lakes here. Last time I went on a hike was recently and the trail was very clean. Great spot close to town and still feel like you're out in the woods.
Great place to hike and camp..grandkids loved it.
As with most of the parks in Kentucky, this one is amazing too. It's pretty big and there are many trails and places to enter and exit the forest. Not a lot of bathrooms to speak of but plenty of wildlife to be found - especially at night.
Love hiking head so near Louisville. Especially in the spring when plants are blooming and the forest is coming alive. Lots of mushrooms as well!
This place is huge and has plenty of places and room to either hike or take the kids to burn energy. Love this place
Beautiful trails with different options from easy to challenging hikes based on interest.
Nice park, good trails to walk on. Go there to use one of the grills while the little one plays on the swings. Campsites are nice
Love bringing the grandkids here. They love it as well so peaceful.
Amazingly beautiful I would recommend gettinget a trail app like all trails so you don't get lost because this park is massive
Great trail. Water source sometimes scarce but overall great park.
The trails were amazing and the greenery was crazy
Great trails and beautiful place to visit
Beautiful forest and lake. It seems heavily fished though and we saw at least five or six dead fish rotting on the shore or at the waters edge and also much fishing line caught on plants along the pathway. So that was a bit disappointing. However, it's otherwise beautiful out there so I would definitely still go back.
Amazing and beautiful trail. A nice little challenge for a brisk afternoon. Very clean and well maintained.
Awesome trails throughout the area. Most are well kept and marked well. I am never disappointed!
A gorgeous locale not too far from the city, breathtaking trails, whether you want a challenge or a beautiful, and casual hike through an amazing array of what Kentucky has to offer.
It's great for families or if your alone. It has trails they vary. There's a beautiful lake if your up for hiking. You can bring an RV. It wide open spaces for playing games
My favorite hiking in the Louisville area. Beautiful in all four seasons, but especially in the fall when the leaves change. Trails can be difficult, but if you or a loved one can't get around as well, try the Tulip Tree Trail. It has a paved surface and is fairly flat. Highly recommend!
Great walking trails, not too many people.
We went out on the orange trail at horine reservation. It was beautiful, steep at times, and definitely not baby friendly under 5. It was amazing to be at the top of the hill and looking out over the forest. It took us almost three hours with a 5 and 9 year old. So worth it!
There's always new spots to visit. Over 10 years visiting and I am still coming across new places, critters and gorgeous views. Hiking and camping will bring you, but the peace and stillness will keep you coming back.
Love this place! Great energy, they keep it clean, the camping grounds are great for families and friends.
Omg this place is HUGE! Me & my 2 dogs definitely weren’t prepared for this but we had an amazing time. The trails are easy to follow, i wish I knew my way around more. I tried to find the lake but couldn’t it . This place is beautiful definitely recommend.
Nice hiking area south of Louisville. This trial was narrow and was populated by both hikerers and trail runners.
It's beautiful, tons to do and kept the kids busy the entire afternoon. From hiking trails, fishing, playgrounds and more, there's something for everyone. They have porta potties but they were the CLEANEST I've ever seen! There was hand sanitizer right outside the bathroom, in there and it's cleaned every 10 days according to the chart. It didn't smell like death and there wasn't any "questionable" items. There's a pavilion with grills so you can cook out near the playground (which they cut the swings due to Covid but there's other things to play on). Over all I would highly recommend going here.
My only complaint is GPS does NOT lead you to the right spot and the parking area is somewhat hidden.
We love the trails here. We want to camp here but, seems to be booked a lot. We've walked through the camping sites and they are nice sized but they don't have many sites. I think 20 maybe. The trails are awesome, have easy, moderate or strenuous. I love having this beautiful park so close to me. The last few times we were there we saw deer. Sorry no pictures, but my boyfriend and I try to enjoy the moments first hand and he HATES when a cell phone is pulled out in the middle of the Great Outdoors it's just not his thing. It keeps you in the moment I do admit. It's a great place guys. Enjoy
I appreciate all the hard work to keep this park in shape for those of us who enjoy it. We ran trails today and will be getting back into that this season. they were also doing construction on the road up, and I'm sure that it takes a lot of resources to deal with erosion and what not coming up that Kirby Hill. Anyway the city does a good job and whatever volunteers and staff look after the park, it's always clean, and the trails are cut and clear. Much appreciated!
Awesome moderate hike with lots of variety. Perfect elevations to get a little burn going and an elevated heart rate without it being considered difficult. My 11 year old pups were entertained with several streams throughout the hike and loved the frogs. Highly recommend.
My dog and I had a great hike through Jefferson Memorial Forest. We checked out a number of trails and made sure to see both lakes. The forest kept us shaded and cool which was perfect on a warm day like today. I loved that so many of the trails intersected so we could easily move from one to the other. Not very crowded except by the fishing lake.
Great hiking trails. Small lake but good for lap rowing.
Wonderful escape from the real world, just a few minutes from the city. Lots of natural areas, trails, programs, and other features/activities for all ages to enjoy. My favorite place to hike in the Louisville area! Trails are usually well maintained, too.
Loved walking/hiking the trails... Beautiful and well maintained.
Wonderful little trail to spend some time on. Lots of elevation change, and the trail is wide enough for two people to walk abreast most of the time. Very scenic, and there are alone pretty lakes along the route as well.
Beautiful hiking trails. Stunning water views. The people you run into are usually friendly. Very few unleashed dogs. Lots of wildlife. There is an information center and parking lot at the main entrance. There are also plenty of places to park along the road.
It was a beautiful path and we just went their for fun. There was a zip line course as well which made me want to go there again. I didn't try the zip line but it seems fun. The reason I didn't give it a 5 out of 5 is because the trail was a bit to dangerous. It was very narrow and it was hard not to fall.
Love this place! Easy to get in and out of. Clear and wide trails from visitor's center down to the lake from the Paul Yost trail. Picnic tables at the lake. Plenty of people walking/running this trail daily so going alone is no problem! The loop around the lake makes this trail enjoyable time and again providing varying views during all seasons!
Saturday afternoon and there was hardly anyone else there also no public restrooms or picnic tables because of quarantine. So now is the time to go but quietly because the woods should be quiet. Have fun!
Was clean and plenty of parking and pic nic areas i just wish they would stock it better
This was a perfect place to have a family reunion. The picnic tables were in good condition. There are plenty of things for children to enjoy.
I come here hiking regularly and it's always a peaceful experience! Just remember, when you come here hiking, camping, grilling, etc ALWAYS take your garbage with you or dispose of it in the proper cans. I always pick up trash while walking and it blows my mind on how someone can throw their trash on a nature trail. Remember that if you want it to look nice and beautiful, always clean up behind yourself and even if it's not your trash, step up to be a better person. It's our responsibility to preserve these locations for future generations to come!
First rate place for a hike. This place place a lot of hikes I’ve done in Colorado. Modest elevation changes and meticulously maintained trails.
It is a nice place. I was amazed to visit this place during fall view. The ups and downs of the hilly roads thrilled me. I will not forget how I felt the first time when I saw the deep ditch down straight from my car window.
I didn't have any idea about this place before. So was surprised.
But certainly this is not something like rocky mountain or grand cannyon. This tiny hills are never comparable to those sky touching mountains.
One thing I want to point out. That is, we didn't see any place to stop anywhere there. All the time we had to drive along the hilly roads. But even so, I enjoyed visiting this place. I wish to go there often.
Nice place. Lots of trails
Hidden Gem with the many facets also has zip lining.( Which is on Hiatus during covid-19.) But trails are open. Lots of people fishing at the lake. Looks like a very nice family setting.
The grounds and campsites themselves are great; well-maintained and we love hiking here.
However, we're to the point of not coming back to camp due to the constant stream of low-flying jets starting at about 5 AM. As I type this, I'm laying in a tent, listening to the roar of yet another plane and knowing I'm basically just not getting any more sleep tonight.
I know it's not Jefferson Memorial's fault or something they can control, but the planes flying by on a near-minute basis basically ruin camping at their site. Which is a shame because it's great otherwise
Excellent for walking or hiking. Relaxing views
Loved camping here! It was a lot of fun hanging out in the park and relaxing by the fire. The only issue I had with it is that it is right under the flight path for ups so it was extremely loud at like 4 am when the planes started taking off. Woke us up so we left early.
Great trails for casual walks or beginner hikers.
Beautiful forest. There were alot of people fishing in the lake. We were looking for a picnic area for a birthday party. Area was mowed around perimeter but alot of tall weeds and brush a little too close for us. (Tick season) There are only three pavilions to rent. Two are in the playground area (right next to the play equipment). And the third is right next to a popular fishing spot. If you're looking for a quiet place to have a family gathering, this isn't the spot. By the forest itself is beautiful. We have hiked there in the past and enjoyed it. They have added the Zipline for a fee. As with any Zipline, it's kinda pricey... especially for a family. Overall, the forest is a wonderful place to visit outdoors. We appreciate the volunteers and the City for keeping it up for all these years.
Great trail that is mostly along the ridge lines but descends into the lower elevations twice on the Red Trail. We did the entire Red Trail outer loop and loved it! The leaves are colorful right now!
I have hiked Scott's Gap Loop several times. It is 3.3 miles, and can be challenging due to the various grades of the hills. The trail is usually clear of obstructions and is marked fairly well. The forest is nice, making this short but challenging hike even more enjoyable.
Love this place and IMO the best place in Lousiville for trails. Challenging, scenic, and a nice respite from the urban/suburban chaos of the rest of the county. Best time to go hike IMO is fall and winter. Spring is too wet and summer is questionable (lots of poison ivy and ticks along the trails--where long pants and sleeves). Siltstone trail is probably my favorite and can be turned into a trail half-marathon as an out-and-back. Mitchell Hill Lake hike is nice for families and little ones.
Beautiful place. It was my first time going and ended up being taken to the middle of the road with nothing around me. Rerouted to the welcome center and walked from there. Rough start in my visit but quickly bounced back with the incredible amount of scenery and beauty this place has to offer.
Nice primitive campground with access to some beautiful trails.
The fish not biting was a bummer, but it was the restroom facility by the lake being closed and the treacherous parking lot at the info center that took the stars
Great hiking a short drive from Louisville. Worth a visit!
Beautiful, crisp day to go on ap hike! The trails are well marked and maintained.
I hiked the Red Trail, via the shortcut, today. The trail is very well maintained. The only strenuous part was climbing out of the creek bed. The trail was slippery, in spots, so I had to exercise caution. All in all, a very enjoyable experience.
Beautiful forest with miles of hiking trails, well maintained and running through acres of woods. Lots of parking along with other activities and amenities for the whole family located conveniently close to Louisville.
Great to get the kids out and away from video games and social media. Some time to show them how we played when we were young.
You'll find the best trails here. This is a gem in our area with a variety of trails to meet the needs of almost everyone. A little planning (look at maps, bring snacks and water) goes a long way before you venture out to the forest, but you won't be disappointed. Visit the gift shop as well!
The Paul Yost Recreational Area is less crowded than the Jeff Memorial Forest Ctr. I did the 3 mile loop trail. It was well maintained, had few other hikers, and has connecting trails to all of the other Jeff Memorial trails. Nice!
It's one of Louisville's beautiful parks. This one is a little more off the beaten path as it's huge and furthest from the city. They have wonderful regular trails and more rugged ones. They also have wonderful programs. Perhaps their most well know is the Forest Fest. Would totally recommend all the time.
A favorite hike destination - Siltstone Trail and Scott's Gap. Great terrain and views.
Love the park hate the a*sholes that trash it while trash cans are everywhere around...
So beautiful and fun for families or a solo stroll to relax! My dog and I love the trails. We go back all the time even though it's a decent drive from me.
Great scenery and hiking
It's a great setting to have a family picnic. There are picnic tables. There's a nice playground for younger children. Then, after you eat, you can explore the lake and a couple of low impact trails.
We had so much fun here. You can go at your own pace. The instructors are never too far away, but they leave you alone to enjoy it as if you are on your own. You should wear old clothes and shoes though. You might get dragged through some mulch at the end of the zip line.
The hiking is really great a lot of great scenery my best time is early in the morning and clime a hillside and watch the sun come up
Really nice well maintained natural area. Kids had a blast. Nice bridges. Never seen such a variety of native perrenials, I have to wonder if it is being seeded or planted.
Beautiful and very close to Louisville. Plenty of trails with elevation and wide enough for walking or running with a few longer trails for extended outings.
Camped overnight. Highly recommend the red trail at the Horine Reservation
The best place to hike in the city. Its awesome. More people go here on nice days in winter, than during the summer or fall. Its great. Best place to go for a quick get away. Not going to tell you my favorite jokes. :)
Awesome place to relax in the woods while on a stroll year-round. No bikers allowed makes is great for hikers and dogs alike. Gorgeous!
Amazing, well kept park. Loved all the trails, they seemed well kept yet untouched. We will be back to see more. My daughter also loves the playground and lake they have there.
Beautiful park with great trails.
We went here for their holiday open house we got pictures with Santa and the kids got an ornament for doing a nature scavenger hunt. The park there is great too my kids especially enjoyed the little sand box.
What a great place to hike. I enjoy parking at the visitor center and hiking up to the Horine Section.
The Horine section originally was donated to the Boy Scouts, after Dr. Horine, a vetinarian, passed. The scouts developed the property with nice campsits, and fresh water and nice trails.
There are not any showers. No swimming pool. No places for campers. In other words its an excellent place for tent camping and an excellent place for day hikes.
The forest is just a beautiful place to take an afternoon ride. The road winds through lush green tree's high above the city and has many areas to stop and enjoy the scenery. I recommend the ride to anyone who loves the outdoors and loves to ride.
The welcome center staff is always so polite and helpful. The trails are great for family hiking. The grounds are well kept up. Awesome place.
This is one of my favorite places to hike around Louisville. You have to avoid the visitors center because it's always super busy, and watch out for manure on the trails that allow horses but when you wander off the beaten path you can usually have the trails to yourself.
Really like hiking their trails in winter and fall, but kinda stay away the rest of the time. The main trail I hike there is very dense when the leaves are green and you feel like you need a machete to get through.
Well maintained well marked trails. Different length trails. If you enjoy hiking visiting Jefferson Forest is a no brainer. Trails lead to hilltops with great views. We go often.
The place us beautiful. I can see downtown Louisville from some of the mountains! I definitely recommend this. It is only a 4 star because it is kind of hard to find and the campsites don't usually have shelters.
The hiking trail I was on was very nice, although Savery slippery from the fall leaves. Enjoyed it very much. Also did a work "team building" day here several years ago that was very well put together.
If you like a beautiful Forest then you will love this one. Minutes from downtown Louisville with abundant hiking trails and for adventurous people there is a confidence course that you do have to pay for but worth the money.
Forest fest is quite possibly my favorite event of the year. We just love it.
great trails. I love it there. great scenery and atmosphere. it's a calm place to visit from your busy daily hustle.

Its a beautiful place over all. I love the walking trails.
We went here for our first date ten years ago. Its been a favorite ever since. Yesterday we set up a hammock at the top of a hill and chilled for about 6 hours. It was fantastic.
Absolutely gorgeous park with lots of different areas to check out
Beautiful place to camp and hike just outside Louisville. I usually run the red trail here with my friends, it's an excellent workout!
Amazing views. Great nature getaway within metro Louisville. Many hiking trails from short and easy to long ( for day hikes) and difficult.
The area I visited is for primitive camping.I hadn't visited any of the trails but was there with friends who cooked out on an open firepit, roads, outhouses and campsites are clean and well maintained.
Clean and quiet. Lots of flowers.
We love this place. Lots of great hiking in a picturesque forest. There's adventure in the treetops provided by "Zipline Kingdom".
Beautiful area to hike or ride your motorcycle through. Love that it's so close to home. Truly a great green space for the city.
Should have taken pics BEFORE we hiked, lol. But me, my husband and stepdaughter had a great hike and an awesome bonding experience! 💜 …
A very nice place to take the kids and hike or watch people on horses. A cute visitor center, and a good diversionary drive. All in all one of the best places in the knobs of KY.
Good to walk, hiking and fishing
I have hiked a few trails here. I went to the visitor center this weekend and got a map of the forest. There are more trails than I thought. This is a gem inside of a major metro city and good stewardship of our environment.
Trails are well maintained, there's plenty of them, and signs and trail markers are clear and helpful. I love Jefferson Memorial Forest and go at least once a month!
Walked the red trail very nice. Trails where marked. An clean.
Pristine hardwood forest with well maintained parks and stocked fishing lakes embedded. It's a great place to get away from the city and escape for a few hours or a whole day
Beautiful walk in nature
I dont think words can describe what a treat Jefferson is to louisville. I love the red trail more than most things in life. So well taken care of, thanks! Also, the longest trail is no joke. An epic 13 miles
You should take your children/grandchildren here! Any age (as long as they are not "too old")! It is an awesome time. Some good clean family fun! WE LOVED IT
Great for a day hike and to train for more intensive hikes. Many people do not put a leash on their dogs. Please don't be that person.
Been coming here since I was a tiny girl.serene,. Silstone trail is one of my favorite trails ever. Although it's 7 miles one way
Great place to hike and lots of options so you can make it as easy or as strenuous as you need.
Trail not clearly marked. Was supposed to be a 3 mile hike. Turned out to be MUCH longer. Wouldn't have been so bad but we had small scouts with us.
This place is more massive than you think!!! It's mostly undeveloped and a great place for explorers. Its a wonderful place to see wildlife! Great place for experienced outdoors people or for the young people in the family.
Beautiful clean and we'll maintained place with lots of sights, biking , hiking and fishing. There's a lot outdoor things to do there.

Weddings would be spectacular with nature as your chapel.
The Siltstone trail is beautiful. I did it one way (6.7) from Tom Wallace to Scotts Gap and was thrilled at the beautiful scenery. Its an awesome hike!
I've been going to this place since I was knee high to a grasshopper I love this place so much I wouldn't say I know the forest like the back of my hand do to the sheer fact bushes grow trees fall and it's not always the same that goes for any forest from season to season but long story short this place has to be my all time favorite stress reliever from walking, hiking or climbing trees.....etc anything left natural is something worth seeing with you're own eye and to experience it true peace and happiness.
Best nature place in Louisville hands down! Nice hiking that isn’t too intense but still worth the visit, and I love the lake!!
Beautiful. Trails are well kept and well marked. Easy to get to. Very nice for a day of hiking.
One of my favorite places in the world, just minutes from the I65/265 interchange. A must visit for outdoors or hiking. Fall colors are beautiful

Nice trails just wish they had dispersed camping and or backwoods camping. Some nice spots definitely along the slitstone trail.
Very Hilly.there are a few trails of varying length. Parking lot can get busy especially at scotts gap so get there early.

Great park. Lots to explore and close to the city. Very nice campground too where you have trees separating sites.
Went on the Scott's gap trail. It was an awesome little hike. I think it was about 3 miles or so. Highly recommend it.
Trails are rough and not very scenic. I love the lakes though they're often over crowded if trying to fish.
