Very nice park with easy walking paths and a decent playground. They have an aerodrom for model planes and drones. Great place to walk for people of all ages and abilities. Good place to run because the paths are wide enough to get around the strollers.

Had an amazing time today with my co-workers at the park. We played games, enjoyed the gymnasium and even listened to music. There was a calm breeze that made the 90 degree temperature bearable. Enjoy a picture of my 2nd best friend Levi after winning the 3 legged race. - Cheers (only subtracted 1 star because a colleague was confronted after driving the wrong way down a 1-way pedestrian path.)

E. P. Sawyer is a Kentucky State Park located within the county limis of Louisville. It's known mostly as a location for sports; cross country, softball, soccer. However it does have a couple of trails that traverse through wooded areas that are nice. Portions of these trails are within the grounds of the Central State Hospital, formerly known as the Kentucky Insane Asylum.

I love this park in Louisville. It used to be very close to the place I used to live. This park is great for walks, running, and playing soccer. No bikes are alowed in the park.

The playground area is small and only at the front now. They've taken out all other play areas. No bathrooms, not even a port-a-potty on the back side of the trails anymore. Most trash barrels have been removed. Rest benches and picnic tables are few and far between with many being worn out and in dire need of a coat of paint to prevent splinters. The landscape is still clean and well maintained. The walking path needs new gravel. No trail signs or markers indicating distance or difficulty. All in all a nice park that needs meaningful improvement.

The dog park is so fun. My pup has a blast. The hiking trails are beautiful - some of them could stand some better markings. The Sayer Hayes house is a great event location.

A nice piece of green space with wide open parks and a playground for the kids. They have a covered spot with restrooms as well. It is well worth the visit when you want to get away for a little bit. There is also plenty of parking here.

Nice park, large and very active. Multiple trails to walk or run on. Activities always happening here, baseball fields(s) soccer pitches, multiple tennis courts. A play ground with a rentable pavilion for birthday parties and gatherings, an outdoor workout playground, archery range, and a good amount of open green fields to fly kites, throw Frisbees etc. Wildlife birds and insects roam in the park. The had axe throwing the one time we went there. The reason for a knock off of a star is that the trails could use some upgrading. The signs are all faded and unreadable, the paths aren't marked very well. The first time I went here with my daughter it was just kind of a guessing game on which path to choose. It can also be a little crowded sometimes, I think a local high school uses the main trail as a running ground for their students. Over all a nice park, just needs some touch ups.

This park is huge! Baseball fields, pickleball courts, soccer fields and playground. They have a large pavilion as well as concession stand during softball games. Love it!

We were there for a cross country meet which was one of the biggest in the nation this year. All that running on the trails created quite a bit of dust. Would like to go to back sometime and visit when it wasn't so busy.

Tom Sawyer park is one of my favorites! So many cool trails and hikes I could never get bored there. Lots of deer and groundhogs/ other wildlife.

Peaceful and nice. Note: people don't follow the park rules. Dogs run loose. I have ran into several occasions where dog owners have dogs on a leash however these dogs are not controlled. The will try to come at you in attack mode pulling the owners with them. One owner told me his dog is not used to people or other dogs. The bike rule is not followed. People still ride bikes on walking paths. The no smoking rule is also not followed. The walking paths are bumpy and need fixing.

Wonderful park. There was so much to do and we really enjoyed the walking trail. However the trails were not clearly marked which was very confusing and left us wondering around for longer than expected. There is a huge waterpark that was closed for the season, several play areas for children, and shelters to enjoy family gathering. The scenery was perfect, and very dog friendly. Restrooms were closed for season, but there was a porta potty.

Very quiet, scenic state park with lots to see on the trails. Walked around a lot on the dirt trails of this park. Butterflies were out, birds chirping. Very calm and peaceful. Saw some deer walking about and they weren't hardly even scared. A lovely place to spend time.

Such a lovely, dog-friendly park! Lots of wildlife and a variety of plants. There's even a creek that runs through. Just beautiful! There's trails for everyone, and you easily lose track of time walking through.

I entered on by the community building which I thought was the main entrance. (I recently moved to Louisville and didn't know my way around.) I found paths mowed in the grass and pavement that I figured were trails but couldn't find any signs or markings to tell me what I was on. I left after a few minutes a bit confused about where to go. As I left the park, driving around the corner I found the main entrance. I have to check that side out in case better signage is there. This park is built on a former Asylum...so there's that.

I mainly visit for softball tournaments, but have been there and walked the trails and been to the dog park. There are concessions available at the softball diamonds most nights and during tournaments. The grounds are well-kept for a state park. The bathrooms have been slightly improved over the last couple of years and as long as people respect them, they are clean and kept orderly. You will see wildlife when you visit the park. It is a big park with a ton of wooded areas along with open space for many different activities. It's a beautiful park and should be utilized by more people.

Such a beautiful yet creepy place with a lot of fun things to do and a creepy past! It is a little dirty and there is some vandalism but over all it is such a cool place. There used to be an asylum here and it's fun to look through the ruins. Picture below

Nice park, great for a cross country meet. Lots of green space and different sports fields. A very nice BMX course! Only downside were the restrooms. Not nearly enough during large events.

Lovely park smack in the middle of a bustling neighborhood. Beautiful, medium- difficulty trails. Old asylum cemetery located in a part of the park, which I avoided. LOL. We got lost after dark on one of our hikes this summer. Ran into deer trying to find our path. It was fun.

Gorgeous park with something for everyone. Walking trails, recreation building, soccer and volleyball courts, running areas and grills and gazebos as well as areas just for dog walking. It's a great park with gorgeous and open scenery. It's very quiet and set back behind everything. Not a lot of traffic. Great for parties, working out, playing or some alone time painting or just looking at nature. The trail is pretty long. It's overall a great park. I've been going here for over 10 years ever since I moved here at 17 and it has remained a favorite park for me even though I dont get there as often as I'd like anymore. Definitely recommend.

This is a great way to go hiking. There are a variety of trails and the nature is just beautiful. It’s a good place to take your kids, dog or just to be in the outdoors. Each tar shows something new and exciting. Beautiful forest and a chill atmosphere of nature.

One of my favorite Louisville parks. It has a very modest playground for the kids with bathrooms and a pavilion nearby. The walking track is a great place to get some exercise. The soccer fields provide unlimited space for kids to run around. The thing that I love the most about this park is the beauty and mystery of the woods. There are several hiking trails that lead to mysterious places, a cave filled with graffiti and the remains of 19th century structures to name a few. There is a rich and at times dark history here that you can learn about if you do your research.

Tom Sawyer State Park is a very beautiful and peaceful place to go and take a stroll or a nice easy hike to get lost in nature! I’ve always enjoyed getting the know the history of the park. Having grown up near this state park, I’m very familiar with the changes and what hasn’t been changed for the park.I miss where they used to have horses here at the park, but it’s always interesting to see what has been left behind. As a whole, nothing much has changed over the years. People that attend the park that I’ve come across have always been very friendly. The upkeep of the play grounds and work out stations have kept the park looking fresh and up to date. The hiking trails, though nice, could use a bit more maintenance as they always seem to be washed out. People with unsteady balance could easily lose their footing, slip, and fall. Dog owners also seem to have a bad habit of leaving their dog’s messes behind. I’m not sure if there are public dog poop bags to encourage dog owners to pick up after their pet, but there are plenty of signs and there really shouldn’t be an excuse for owners not cleaning up after their own dog. Owners that do attend the dog park are much better at cleaning up after their dog. Overall, there is somethings that can use some touching up at the park, but it’s still quite enjoyable to go and enjoy the fresh air!

Great park for BMX racing, we just need security to help watch riders on the track when it is closed so it doesn't get damaged. There is sooo much volunteer hours into keeping this track ready for the BMX riders.

I have been going here all my life! This park certainly has the cleanest park bathrooms. The trails are still well kept. I haven't been to the pool in a while, but it use to be a staple in my adolescence and the sorbets were delicious! I'm so happy this park has consistently been a place with so many things to do! The Bark Park at Sawyer Park is just great. There is a walking trail for two legged users and acres for the four legged to run in. There is lots of parking and rudimentary but serviceable bathroom facilities. Definitely my family's favorite Bark Park in Louisville

A nice little diversion on the way to wherever you're going. The cemetary tree is worth a stop in, and the park also has Kentucky's oldest geocache! Just for those two reasons in themselves it's worth a look.

Well maintained. Main entrance features soccer fields, Olympic swimming pool, and nice running/walking paths. The back entrance is supposedly more natural and there used to be a mental hospital on the grounds.

Attended the Nortons Children’s Hospitial event this weekend and wow what a place. From what I experienced this is you go to remote controlled fixed and rotor wing place. The show they put on with all the aircraft both fixed and rotor was the best. Thanks for having such a safe and clean and wonderful place to have a celebration of any kind. Really Great Place!!!

This park has everything for everyone. Sports for the kids, archery, playground, wooded walking trail, model airplane launch area, tennis, swimming pool & sometimes they have hot air balloons! 10/10! I always feel safe here on the walking track.

I went walking in the park with a friend & it was quite pleasant walking the trails & other hikers & runners were so friendly. There were people studying together at a pavilion. There was a play date group where the children were enjoying running around as well as making a paper plate crafts.

Its a great place to walk, run, or even bike. If your a bike racer, then they have a place for that too. If you just wanna deer watch there are plenty of places to see them. This park has everything you wanna do even if you just want to sit on a bench and think. I love coming here with my family. I drive 20 min out of my way just to come here.

I love it! The pool is in park!!! Not in nabergood .....Facility has shower...room to change clouse...bethroom... also has tennis courts in side the bilding...cafe.. .the park has a lots different erea to play and to relax.... Parking lot big... and police control cars all over the park! Excellent for family and company ... Place is clean!!! Thank you warkers!!!

Good place for running, I've been going here all my life and it is a great park, especially for soft surface running. It isn't the greatest place for going on roads for running, but there are some enjoyable road routes as well. I'm not liking the current uncertainty with park closing time, which is my biggest reason for 4 stars instead of 5, but this may change in the future. Correction: I did not think the reply below fully answered my confusion, but now I believe I simply had a confusing experience leading to a misunderstanding between the whole park being closed and the trails being closed (long story). My review has been updated to 5 stars correct the error.

We are so lucky to have such a national park nearby. Just took carry-out over there with my wife and sat on a bench enjoying the peaceful evening. Lots of folks out for an evening walk with dogs and kids and mostly each other. The trees were particularly splendid fully leafed out and rustling in the summer breeze. Sounds smarmy, and that’s why I love it.

This park is an extremely beautiful place to go. There are a lot of trees and tons of activities to participate in. They have a couple soccer fields and many tracks to walk down. They have an indoor area which is extremely nice. The bathrooms aren't run down like most parks. The park is located near a lot of food places making it very convenient to order something to eat. There are a lot of trash cans around so you don't have to walk 2 miles to throw a water bottle away.

We visited on a 35 degree cloudy day and December so it might not be the best day to rate this park, but the trail seemed well kept and the bathroom was clean by the park.

This is a great park. I enjoy the large walking track, as well as the hiking trails. The bathrooms are clean and the park is well maintained. There are a couple of playgrounds and several tennis courts. There are pavilions that be be rented for gatherings. You can also rent a large large indoor facility for meetings and events.

Tom Sawyer park is a beautiful place. Very relaxing park. It's open till 10pm. Great place to take a dog for a walk or just to walk around. There are many soccer fields, and different soccer teams play often. Also there's a recycling facility drop off point on site, which is nice.

Such a beautiful place. Its a really great area for children and has a path for running. Along the path there is a way to a creek and that place has these wonderful little flowers. The actual creek was so nice to just sit and listen to. Overall it's a wonderful place for people of all ages.

Great place to take a walk. Dogs on leashes are welcome on the trails and they even have a dog park. Playground for the kids, grills and pavilions for big parties. They have an archery area which is pretty awesome as well. 5 stars!

Great park! So much to do, lots of options for exercise outside. Two separate playgrounds for kids, one in the main park area and one by the dog park. Wide mile-long gravel/dirt walking/running loop great for strollers. Lock your car doors! My friend's purse was stolen from her car and police said it's been happening there lately. (Summer 2016)

Love this park. I like taking walks with my husband here. I never been to the pool part. But as I am walking it looks beautiful. This park is beautiful and big. I enjoy my walks in the park it closes at 10pm the opening I don't know but I have walked at 8am before. Not sure on the time. You can always search for it on google. Try it out they have a playground for the kids too.

Overall it’s well maintained, they host plenty of events and The obvious it’s a nice walk. I don’t particularly like that you can’t ride your bike there, bummer for my family because we are bike riders and it’s so close to home. There’s always lots of people and they have several workout groups that go there different times of the week that are awesome!

I loved this park wish I could have brought it back home with me!! HUGE on our hike we got to see 4 deer that was cool.. kids loved it.. great place to hang out, play, walk, run, exercise except back home its not in one area its spread along the main walk path which I like better but I would say if you wanted to just go work out and leave then this is more ideal to have it in one area!

That was a great Fall night for the late baseball games. The facilities and parking were very efficient. The only suggestion is that lighting be added near the signage to the road which leads to the fields. Also, actually couple lights on that side road would also be appreciated since I almost hit a deer which was out for a late night snack. Luckily I had once visited that place in the daylight. I literally would have turned back and not participated that night were it not for my Waze app and my slight familiarity with that sight; it was extremely easy to bypass that signage, road, and area otherwise.

Just visited for the first time, and it's a very pretty park. There is plenty of path available for walking, maybe 50% of it is shaded by large trees. There is an enormous amount of grass space available for sports that appears to be used for soccer leagues. It's not an incredibly large park, but it's very nice and very clean.

We go here for our work meeting and they definitely need more bathrooms for the women. Four bathroom stalls for a convention / banquet hall is crazy. Big space however and like the big open window design. Makes long meeting enjoyable when you can get lots of sunlight and scenery in the venue

Playground, BMX park, archery area, rc drone/plane area quarantined off. 4 access points for parking, but no roads throughout park. Several covered picnic areas. Venue for events, by reservation. Lots of grass areas and walking areas. Lots of tennis courts and soccer fields. Nice place!

Great park for exercise, soccer, tennis, softball, and BMX biking. Main gravel walk paths are good for stroller running (if you have little ones). Plenty of wooded trails (and even smaller off-shoots) for you to get lost in and explore. Site of lots of cross country meets and fun runs.

Bathrooms are unfit for use and the dog mess around the park needs attention. The dogs can't do it so that's more of an owner of the animal and not the park ;) Playing sports or watching outdoors again is a go!!!

Came to have a picnic dinner and walk with my family. Took a walk up to see the pool area as I've not been swimming there in several years. We go to EP a lot to walk and for ballgames (almost weekly) and my one complaint is that there's always overflowing garbage cans and trash all over the ground, including the food court area for the pool. The last 3 times I've been there I've picked up trash. I wish this park was better taken care of and the trash was emptied more often, maybe more would make it into the cans.

EP Tom Sawyer park is a nice park. The grounds crew keep the place clean and they cut the grass at least ounce a week. I like to play soccer their because they have about 6 or more fields. However, they often take the goals off of the field so there is no guarantee they will be there. Its a nice park to run or walk. There are trails around the park as well as trails through the woods. The park would be nice for picnics and that sort of thing as well.

It's a good sized park with lots of space for activities. Unfortunately, there are some trails with fire ant mounds and places where you can't help but find yourself in the way of stinging insects (wasps, bees, etc). Be mindful of your footing and trail meandering, or just pick a different park.

Tom Sawyer is a great State Park in Louisville. Louisville has lots of wonderful parks and this one is also a park for the whole family. It includes great running trails, it was the site of the NCAA Division 1 cross country championships, it hosts many excellent High School cross country races, and it has great soccer fields, baseball fields, BMX track, swimming pool, indoor basketball court, etc. It has a 1 mile running/walking trail. It also has picnic areas, a children's play area, tennis courts, etc. As you can imagine, it is a wonderful place to enjoy the beauty of Louisville!

This state park is a bit of an oddity. It is more like a city park and not like the standard issue Kentucky State Resort Park. It has a fine gym which we didn't take advantage of and a fair walking/jogging trail which we did take advantage of. It is dead flat. It is located in a very suburban part of Louisville and the attendees were almost all locals, which gives it the flavor of a city park.

I went this park when I was young it was clean and a pool with diving board. What I like most is the marked trails they are 1 mike. I did training for an 8 mike marathon for Diabetes. In side they also have a basketball court in the gym.

I don’t have a dog but if I lived nearby I’d be tempted to get one as an excuse to come here more often. The large open fields are great for football, frisbee, and whatever else you can think of. Bring your kids, your dogs, and some sunscreen. Plan on staying for a while because there’s a lot to do and a lot to see here.

I wouldn't feel safe here once it gets dark. There's no lights on the walking trails, so it could get scary when walking back. The main parking lot has a lot of cracks in it. It'd be nicer if I could ride a skate/long board in the empty lot after people have left, to practice. I like seeing deer here around dusk in the open field the gravel track goes around. It's a little tiny, but ok for a quick limited time or for a family picnic.

This place is huge, plenty to do here. We went there to use the ball fields. They have plenty of parking and a lot you can walk around to check out. They even have a bmx race course. It is nice finding a place like this so close to home. Definitely worth checking out. Overall a great place to bring the whole family.

The park is nice and there's plenty of wildlife. But if you choose to walk to Goose Creek Trail, be warned that it is NOT well-marked. There are a number of places where other paths intersect and it is not clear which is the trail and which isn't. First time out, I wandered at least half a mile before finding out I wasn't on the trail when I came to one of the pavilions.

This is a state park with a lot of soccer fields (reserved for leagues), baseball diamonds, tennis courts, swimming pool, BMX track, archery, trails, remote control airfield, trails, badminton and more. It is a well-used park when the weather is decent. There used to be an 'insane asylum' on the property and you can find lots of remains from the roads and infrastructure that supported it, but no silly ghost stories that I know of. The replacement (Central State Hospital) is located right next to it. You can rent the Sawyer Hayes Community Center for events, which affords a nice space and lots of parking.

This was always my favorite park to run cross country, because it is a beautiful park, and because it is mostly flat. This park has hosted cross country NCAA Division 1 and Division 3 national championships in the past, as well as ACC championship, and there is a good reason for that. On top of that this park has 12 nice tennis courts (no lights,) multiple soccer fields, playground, Volleyball net, archery range, bmx bike track that has held a national championship, and some very nice short trails. It does have an olympic size swimming pool ($5 to get in at the time of this review) with a diving board, but the hours of operation are only until 6pm (so depending on your work schedule, you might never be able to use it.)

This person tried to throw her past and present positions around only to be brought down by a higher track official. The RUDNESS WAS BY 1 PERSON NOT a park official. This is truly a great park for your family. This should also not reflect on the BMX track, just one RUDE ITCH trying to push her weight around.

I go here for the dog park. My small dog loves to run this big 2 (I think) acher fenced in yard. The front part of the small dog area is a clear space perfect for running. The back is wooded nice shade for furbabies to relax. The big dog area is 4-6 (I think) achers of clear land and wood area... Both sides have a gazebo, benches and lawn chairs to us humans to relax in. Or if you want to you can walk around the trails. The big dogs have a nice trail that goes back tine the wooded area. Small dog area has a walk way on the fence line.

The best dog park in Louisville in my opinion. A key fob is required; to get one, go to feeders supply, fill out their form, pay them for the fob, bring updated shots paperwork from your vet, and registration of your dog. This will get you a membership dog tag (which must be visible at all times at the park) and the fob for a year. This will work at all other affiliated dogs parks in the Louisville area too. There are almost always a large pack of dogs, and they are all friendly and playful.

Be careful. There are these three German Shepherds that like to attack other dogs. My mutt has been attacked three times but those god dang dogs. The owner will be with them so when you see him tell him this"you get your god dang dogs away from mine. There have been dogs that have been attacked by your dogs. So get you and your Shepard's out." Thankfully there was a pretty vet that checked out my dog and said he was okay. And a woman that yelled to him "GET YOUR DOGS OUT!" so make sure you run a lap with your dogs to make sure their not there cause they can kill you and your dog. But other than that we were fine after. Oh yeah! They attacked a Dalmatian, a husky, a terrier, and a dog that I forget the breed name, and some other dog,then mine. So they attacked 6 dogs today. But after the attack we were fine but he was wounded.

A bunch of beautiful deer were outside eating at their Leisure tonight while I played with my dog at the dog park and talked with friends it's a peaceful place with lots of activity for people to play soccer or go swimming or have a picnic or go to the playground or play tennis there's hiking trails I love Tom Sawyer Park

A post rainy day, so not much playing on the slides as they had water on them, but the area was clean, I would suggest chains on the steps going from the top deck down the stairs in non useable months.

I always enjoy a morning walk at Tom Sawyer. Wear older shoes, the track is gravel and will get your shoes dusty.

Indoor pickleball facility was pretty good compared to other's we go to in FL. They just need to introduce instructors to teach these players that dinking is part of the game.
