Reviews of Griffith Park
Claudia Elizabeth Zuñiga (LIZBETH)
OMG! 🙏🏻💜😎 Visited this beautiful place! Bring back the most important and wonderful memories of my youngest part of my life... Been years since I came!🤔😉Well it's so beautiful! If anyone would like to visit, do it... Never regrets to enjoy hiking and just relaxing! Whatever you want to enjoy, just visit and enjoy as much as you can 😉😎
Corey Johnson
Absolutely breathtaking views. This adventure we parked at the old zoo exhibit, had a picnic in the grass under a tree, then explored the upper terrain and even ventured off the beaten path to get even more of a scenic overlook. These photos were shot from the east side of the park, looking eastward towards Glendale, and Eagle Rock. By far a fun quick nature getaway in the urban area of LA. Thanks, parks and recreation!
Carmina Heilla
Fantastic view - visited during sunrise, day, sunset and night. In every single time was different and beautiful - most unique was night- sunrise. Parking costs 10$ per hour - quite expensive but is worth visiting. Is a beautiful spot, visiting the inside is also worth doing at least once. Pictures with the bronze wings is a must have for a trip in city of angels. Nice touch!

So excited this is back open to the public for all the inside activities and shows! It's free, fun, educational and beautiful on the inside. The architecture and interior alone is a work of art that continues to carve its pathway in the importance of history! Be sure the catch the demonstration of the Tesla Coil, and a must see is the Planetarium show. Sunsets on the top of the West terrace, and moon rises via the Zeiss telescope on the East deck! 💞

Great location for seeing the Hollywood sign and hiking up from the hills below. Great views of the city landscape and really nice houses in the hills area. Up at the top, when the observatory is open, there are tours to see the telescopes and learn about the area, however, this is not open every day and sometimes is closed for private events. Park down in Griffith park and walk the mile up to the observatory on a dirt path (can also walk to the sign from there). There is a water bottle filling station at the observatory to the right of the parking lot when facing away from the observatory.

Amazing sights. The actual observatory wasn't open when were there but all the viewing areas were worth it. Definitely a sight worth seeing in California. Parking was decently expensive but it was still a really unique experience. Great place to see the Hollywood sign!
Anthony Herrera
It’s free to get in but remember to bring your vaccination card and ID as it’s required for entry. I recommend you come later in the day to watch the sunset 🌅. Parking is very difficult so be prepared to walk if you cannot snag parking up top. There is a designated ride share drop off / pick up point so this can be an option to. I also recommend you watch the planetary show for $10 a person. If you want to go to the Cafe/ Gift shop, make sure you’re here before 6pm

Beautiful!!! Want to spend quality time with friends or family?
With over 4,300 acres of gorgeous natural green space, Griffith Park is one of Los Angeles’ best attractions. It is the largest public park in the US, and boasts a huge variety of exciting activities, sights, and attractions, with every single member of the family catered for, from youngest to oldest.
Bordered by the LA River to the north and east and the Hollywood Hills to the west. To the south is the epic landscape of Beachwood Canyon and the park is one of the most picturesque spots that the City of Angels has to offer. The view is one of its best features, with a stunning panorama offering a bird’s-eye vista of pretty much the entire city.
It’s a wonderful place to get out of the hustle and bustle of LA life, take a breath, and get back to nature!

Many educational stuff inside the observatory. The telescope is open from 7pm to 10pm I believe (i don't remember). I went in the day but the view is better at night with the city lights. Parking was very hard and the hike adds up the more you park away. The street without street parking (the one which goes through the tunnel to reach the observatory) has parking lots at the bottom relatively closer to the observatory.
Viraj Gadgil
It's always an awesome experience to visit the place. Parking at the top is very limited and costs $10/hr. If you don't get at the top, just make a loop and park on the way up. Lot's of trails nearby. The observatory is full of astronomical information and equipments. Access to the observatory is free but you need tickets for planetarium show which is very good, so I highly recommend it. Typically spare 2-3 hours here.

Beautiful park up on the hill overlooking Los Angeles. The Observatory is at the top of the park and is well worth the visit.
There are numerous grill, picnic and playground areas all along the road leading up to the Observatory.
Water fountains can be found often and the sidewalk is quiet and tranquil. There are also a few cafes and coffee shops to check out on the way up. Lots of free parking is included as well.
9/10. Loved being here.
Karson Wilson
INSANELY beautiful but always so busy. There is quite a bit of space to spread out from people which is nice.
$10 an hour to park at the top which is a little steep in my opinion.
There are bathrooms at the top but the line is so long. Pro tip- there are bathrooms on the sides of the restroom building. Everyone lines up in the middle and no one uses the ones of the sides.
Be sure to walk all the way around the building. The view from the veranda is 100% although the smog seems to be getting worse.
For a more quiet and coastal view with less people visit San Vicente Mountain: Old Nike Missile Site Trail.
Marigold White
Griffith Park is a beautiful area. The drive includes gorgeous homes and scenic nature. I specifically went to see the observatory and wasn't disappointed. There are some minor issues currently, including the tesla coil and other various attractions being out of order when I went. There are plenty of hand sanitizing stations around all the attractions and they provide free masks. The observatory requires vaccination cards and you're not allowed to take in any food or drinks.
I would also like to comment on the parking. There are very few disabled parking spots and the signs are a bit confusing. There's lower parking that requires a lot of walking. It's very hard to turn around in that area as the road leads down the mountain. The upper parking is better but costs $10 per hour currently.
Overall I had a wonderful time with my friends and enjoyed taking photos and interacting with the displays. I only wish some of the bigger attractions were in working conditions. Better disabled parking directions would be appreciated too.

A hill above Los Angeles, providing a bit of recreation and, at the end, a breathtaking view. There is also a platform at the top where you can see the famous Hollywood sign. The route is easy and convenient, but there are many different routes to the top. You can walk, cycle...there are also rattlesnakes on the trail but don't let that scare you away as they are smart and prefer to get out of the way when it gets too crowded.
Nitin Mahindrakar
Nice place to visit with kids. Lots of learning opportunities. It can get crowded and parking can be tight. Plan accordingly. You can drive all the way up if you need to drop off someone and then park the car down at parking lots. Restrooms are not many at the building so expect a queue.
Stephen Ng
Visited the Griffith Observatory for the second time in last 7 months. Although parking is a bit of a pain, it's enjoyable taking a walk up to the Observatory. Lots to see and learn for adults and children alike. We ended up also looking at the underground section which was not available during the first visit.
The theatre showed a video of how the Observatory came to be, the history and what the future has to offer.
Great place especially as it's free to visit. Would recommend to friends and family.
Will Smith (Captain_wps)
Really cool experience, good spot for a picnic.
The view of LA is incredible and an underatted spot to get the cheeky Hollywood sign pic.
Note: they check ID and vaccination pass to enter the observatory so have them handy.
Parking: there is parking all the way up the entry driveway.
Ajai S
Must see if visiting LA! Great place to learn about space and the observatory! It's highly recommended to go during sunset as many others have mentioned. But would highly recommend planning ahead as it does get very busy during the evening and can also get very busy during the day! We waited in quite a bit of traffic to see the sunset but did not find any parking, so saved it until the next morning.
Marc Auf der Heyde
Absolutely incredible view, and very nice observatory. Was delighted that they keep the entrance price free and only charge for the planetarium shows, which are absolutely fantastic by the way! The live commentary was very enthusiastic and infectious! Actually ended up going twice because I forgot my COVID vaccine the first time. So I keep telling people, Griffith park is so good you have to see it twice haha! Jokes aside, great thing to see when LA, and quite different than everything else. Highly recommended! The staff are also very kind and helpful, and are very knowledgeable about their expertise!
Christopher Roman
Unparalleled park that's close enough to the city for it to be easily accessible, yet large enough that you still feel like you're escaping into nature. Come for a visit to the famed Griffith Observatory, a hike to the Hollywood sign, a picnic in the grassy picnic areas, or incredible views of the city in all directions (especially at sunset). One of my absolute favorite spots in LA.
Ease of parking depends on which of the several entrances you use. Generally speaking, it's pretty tough on the "front" (south) side facing the city and a little easier on the back side to the northeast.
Rodrigo Oliveira (Rod)
A must when visiting LA! The scenic views from the Griffith Observatory are breathtaking.
It’s super easy to reach with metro lines and the shuttle that are free of charge and it runs every 5-10 minutes.
Expect to be asked for proof of vaccine and ID to be admitted in the venue.
Marinda Darnell (Cayt)
The drive up to the park and observatory was gorgeous. Parking is free and handicap spaces are plentiful. The views of the surrounding areas are amazing. The Pacific Ocean shimmers, Santa Monica and LA are in clear view, and you cannot ask for a better macro view of the area.
G DJ
It's always a pleasure to visit this place with out of town guests. There's something for everybody! For fitness and hiking enthusiasts, this place offers opportunities for both. For science enthusiasts like my 13-year old, this is a place to explore and get an introduction about the heavens and some celestial bodies. For movie enthusiasts like myself, the place took me back to memories of a classic James Dean flick I watched on video tape with my folks. Beautiful views, a challenging trail, a chance to engage your inner science nerd to learn and explore. A must check out LA destination for sure.
J V
Didn't go into the observatory or explore the park much. Just did the drive to the top for a view/pic of the Hollywood sign....it was cool. Nice road and easy parking. Great view of the city below
Marilyn Davis
Beautiful breath taking views. Great place to walk trails and just enjoy nature. $10/ hour parking. Proof of covid vaccine required to enter the observatory.
Christoffer Tøttrup
Even if you aren't a fan of Astrology/Astronomy or a fan of Museums, then I would still recommend you the hike to Griffith Observatory since its simply such a beautiful walk and if you time it with the sun going down or with the sun setting then its such a beautiful visual feast 🌇🌅 The Observatory in itself I felt was a bit of a tourist trap personally, which is why I'm not giving it 5 stars, though it also has nice access with car/uber and it has a big open area in front where people were picnic'ing with blankets, wine and food watching the beautiful sun, very romantic and idyllic.
All in all I'd say this location is surely worth seeing if you have a week or more in LA ❤️
Michael James
Griffith park is a huge park with the observatory, the train museum and the LA Steamers trains. I am a train fan so the trains were my main reason for going. Parking for both trains is easy and plentiful. The QR codes next to the trains have a wealth of information on each one. Train rides are a cheap entertainment option and lots of fun.
Tara Black
Great place to take in the skyline! We tried to park in paid parking, but it was full ALL day and the dash buses are not reliable due to staffing shortages. Best to plan for walking. Exhibits are nice but we were done within an hour. Wish we would have timed it later to be able to use the telescope (after 7).
Luis Daniel
Nice place to go for views of Los Angeles scenery and skyline. There is a nice picnic area and tons of trails for hiking. If you can hike a bit, you will have amazing views of the Hollywood sign and might run into a coyote or two
Ta Borg
Always worth a visit. Just be aware there can be quite a long hike uphill, especially if you go at a busy time (like the weekend). The observatory contains a lot of really cool things (a real Tesla coil!!) and you can spend a good half-day here exploring. Bring a picnic. It’s free to get in but you do have to pay quite a bit to park, even if you park way down the hill and have to walk.
Brent Warner
Incredible views at the top of the Hollywood sign. Observatory at the top was really cool, and was a good break for the kids and adults. Highly recommend - get there early to obtain a good parking spot.
Packo G (Anonymous)
One of the best experiences for free in LA.
It's best to park by the Greek Theatre, it's free.
You can hike up or take the bus, it's free as well.
The best restroom is in the Lower Level 2.
I take my own tortas chips and drinks, only because I am not fond of the snacks there. But a lot of people like them.
Don't seat on the edges of the roof, staff will be on you right away.
All in all, I would say, this is one of the coolest places for tourists and locals in all of SoCal.
Kevin Paul
Parking is a nightmare and you will find all of LA hanging out here during sunset. Great views if you are lucky to miss the fog.
The observatory is closed most week days so couldn't make it in there but it's supposedly good based on reviews from friends. If you can find parking, worth the visit.
Dmitry M
A great place to visit. Observatory has a number of activities to see. Great views on LA and around. Famous Hollywood sign is visible from here. Recommended. Highly.
Gastón Villamea
Awesome! A must do if you are in LA. Many interesting things to see, and the sunset there is amazing. Only downside is parking. The observatory parking lot is very small, and they charge you 10 dollars each hour for parking outside by the road.
Nick Ennis
Really nice park that contains the Griffith Park Observatory at the peak, which is well worth a visit.
Lots of walking trails through the park, picnic benches & barbecue areas.
Well worth a visit.
Wroclaw71 Twierdza
Visited today in the evening. Really cool place, employees very nice helpfully and have a good knowledge about the stars and everything. Inside the observatorium was really nice displays and we really enjoyed. Should have come earlier to have more time to spend in there.
corinavalentina
Such a nice view of the Los Angeles. Hollywood sign is also visible from there, however, you have to walk on top the hill for about one hour to reach it and have a good photo with it.
Kelley Jorgensen
We parked up front on a Saturday afternoon. Only four dollars an hour! Which is totally worth it because the observatory is free. You have to pay to park down the hill as well. I know there's a free lot but not sure where or how far you'll have to walk.
The observatory has two upstairs wings to explore and learn about space and light. The Tesla coil goes off about every hour 12:20 p.m., 1:20 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:50 p.m., 4:50 p.m., 5:50 p.m., 7:20 p.m., 8:20 p.m., 9:30 p.m.)
And downstairs is dedicated to the planets.
Outside you can find iconic views of Los Angeles and the Hollywood sign.
Sarah Diehl
It had beautiful views of Los Angeles. You can see for miles! The day we went the Observatory was closed. You could still have a good time walking around and taking pictures.
Anthony Ancheta
Sister and I loved the hikes! We did a few trails and checked out Griffith Observatory after the sun went down. Highly recommend anything Griffith Park related.
Kayla Henry
Great park!! So so much to do including hikes to the observation deck and Hollywood sign sights for miles and will 100 percent come back . Has large play area, hiking trails, is a non smoking national forest
Joanne Carolan
A Los Angeles gem. A must see for locals and visitors alike. View planets and stars with the knowledgeable telescope demonstrators. The Zeiss telescope is impressive but plan on waiting in a short line. Views to downtown LA and the Pacific Ocean 😍. Can you say photo-op!? …
Josh Bartolovich
This views from here are stunning. It's also the best place to get a picture with the Hollywood sign. I didn't get to go inside the building because I didn't have my vaccination cards on me. And as a gamer, this is a featured place in GTA V.
James Catalano
Nice dusty hike up a short, but steep trail to the observatory. The park and observatory are worth visiting. Make sure to have your ID and proof of Vaccination!
Freddy Cardoza
The entire Observatory experience is fantastic, except for a couple of things you'll want to know.
On the good side, it's a fabulous stop, with breathtaking and classic views of the Los Angeles skyline. The facilities are maintained, so you can view heavenly objects in space through the actual Zeiss glass lens telescope in the observatory itself. Fantastic. (There are also often amateur astronomers who are very knowledgeable who have their own, often powerful, telescopes of their own on the grounds, offering passers by the opportunity to view the heavenlies and learn at absolutely no charge. There's more to see inside and it's a great treat.
The limitation is that parking is at a premium and there is precious little of it. That means "most" visits driving themselves and not taking public transportation up the hill will be walking a relatively steep incline to the summit where the observatory is housed. In addition, it is sad but the paid parking meters are frequently not working and this means you will have to walk and find a working meter, pay, then return down to your car, place the paid receipt, then really back up... if the meter near your car is broken (or face the likelihood of an expensive ticket).
Otherwise the Observatory is outstanding.
One additional plus (in the daytime) is that this sits right beside the Hollywood sign, so you can get great pictures with it in the background... BUT only in the daylight. Sadly, despite the many lights surrounding the radio tower beside the sign, not one single light shines on the Hollywood sign, so it's invisible at night. <Big missed opportunity on the part of the city>. Even so, it's a great visit to a classic educational and cultural location.
MJ Luna
The only complaint I have about this wonderful place is the walk to Griffith Park. It is steep and uphill, and the walkway up is narrow. I read about the steep incline uphill walk but thought I could handle it. If you have medical conditions like me please pay the parking fees
Jennifer Hammoudi
The view is amazing! I enjoyed it so much I'm going to return to LA and plan to spend a whole day at this park. A picnic and check out the Observatory.
James Oakley
One of my favorite places in the city to relax and take some pictures. Or when friends come in from out of town i take them here to enjoy the views. Or hike the trails. So much to do in this park.
Asna S
Amazing views of the city and the hills from the observatory. Great spot for a picnic, hike, or photoshoot. If you're going to see the sunset, be sure to get there early as there's a lot of traffic on the way up and it gets very crowded very fast. Proof of vaccination is required for entry into the building
Joselito Laudencia
A beautiful place to hike. Parking can be a bit challenging, but at the Griffith Observatory the parking costs $10 per hour. Best time is to go close to sunset to get some gorgeous views!
SrCl
This place couldn’t be a better place to go to when you want to see all of LA in a whole. It’s honestly crazy to me that someone can experience such an phenomenal view. It’s free entrance and even the observatory if you don’t want tours. You can spend all day there just like I did. The only downside is people! There are a lot of people. But that doesn’t mean a thing when you get to see such a thing. It’s also fun because you can hike up the .7 mile stretch from below to the top. Parking is also sort of a problem but who cares! Get some exercise in! All I can say about this is that it is a beautiful and just plain fun thing to go with a family, by yourself or with friends. They have bathrooms as well as water fountains on the inside. There is grass for you to sit on and eat food or just to lay down in. Great photography place or bird watch location! Have fun! And remember that I’m the one that made you do it 😭. If you get lucky you can see the moon! And it doesn’t even have to be night to see it! As one of my pictures show.
Emilian Cebuc
Offers some truly breathtaking views over Los Angeles, and it was an absolute must see together with the observatory. Especially at sunset you get some really amazing views. You have 10$ per hour parking there. Definitely go at least once if you get the chance. And then take advantage of the fact you're there to visit the observatory, most sections of it are free then there's a few paid parts and shows
Moises Aguayo
Amazing place to spend the day in LA. So far due Covid situation, full record of vaccines is required to get inside for people 12+ years old.
Also important to consider parking costs $10 per hour close to the observatory
judy swain
AH-mazing 360 degree views of LA Skyline & bordering cities👏
Parking rate of $10 can be pricey however Getty Museum on Sepulveda charges $20.
Finally visited after living in LA LA land for many years.
Most reviews support comments about heavy tourist attraction so plan accordingly!
I visited between 11a-1230p on 12/23 & parked near angel wings statue.
Proof of vaccine & photo ID was not requested when entering buildings.
Great for all🙏🎄✌️
Daryoush Nekooi
The view is spectacular but parking after 4pm is so difficult, you can go round and round without finding anything. The parking attendents aren't helpful and are very vague and dismissive. It's also ridiculously expensive at $10 an hour
Currently you also need to show proof of full vaccination to enter the Observatory. No real issue with this but its strange that no other museum or building requires it...
The view is beautiful
Linda Kranz
Loved the hike up Mount Hollywood. Picnic tables and shade at Dante's View is the perfect lunch spot. On to the top of Mount Hollywood where are the view of the Griffith observatory, Hollywood sign and Los Angeles is unparalleled. Best to go on a clear day. The parking is free until noon Monday through Friday at the observatory or you can park at the Greek and take the Dash shuttle up. About 2.75 roundtrip hike. No bathrooms once you leave the parking area
David Hakobyan
Beautiful observatory, amazing view of the city. Great museum inside. Be ready to stand in humongous line to look through their main telescope though at a weekend night, though they have 3-4 smaller telescopes outside with shorter lines that they claim have the same power and do the same job.
Andy Mai
This is a very popular location for locals as well as tourists in Los Angeles area. It has a big parking lot as well as street parking. It is on top of the mountain and the view is breathtaking. You can see the city as well as trail/tree below. This is a handicap and family friendly facility.
T.J. Schaaf
Loved the park area. Great views of Los Angeles, Hollywood and the Hollywood Sign. They need to be open more than just the weekends to fully enjoy it. Also, they need more than 5 disabled parking spots for an area that large.
Jean-Luc Aguirre
Lovely view of LA on top of the hill. Parking is limited so plan ahead if not you'll be taking a small hike to the top. Really cool observatory.
Ariel Shimoni
Wow. This is a must see spot in LA! The views are amazing, and the Planetarium movie was incredible. Even our 4 year old sat through the whole thing (35 minutes). It can get pretty crowded though..
Jagan Raj Jayapandiyan
Beautiful park with numerous hiking trails, amazing views over the city and the Hollywood Sign. Must visit places in LA, along with your other itinerary. Getting a parking space could be depending on the time you get there, plan accordingly.
Reine
Beautiful, arid and sunny. Bring plenty of water, wear a hat and sunscreen. It’s a great place to walk, hike and play with friends, have a picnic and rent a pony. It is paid parking throughout the entire park during posted hours.
Fernando Luna
The place is great, the views are even better, the building is very nice. The planetarium is great. Gets very crowded on weekends, coat is 7 dollars., parking is $10 per hour... we needed 2 hours...The line for the actual telescope is loooooong. The whole place is great. Take pictures, chili out, enjoy the views of the city and of whatever the telescope is pointing to... This is an LA must.
Bobby O
Awesome place for a morning hike, clean and not to crowded. If you are looking for a nice spot to see LA is this it. You will enjoy a great view of the city morning or night. Is like an oasis in the middle of the city .
Derrick Hopkins
Absolutely wonderful place to visit lot and lots to do. And The famous
*Greek theater* open Amphitheater in the woods. Great place see a concert.
Bands live playing there.!
JP Dom1
Went for a 11k run around the park to the observatory. Had free parking on the road but a lot of the car parks were empty but barriers blocking them off and tow trucks coming threatening to tow cars away. Apart from that stunning views and great running
Jaren Davis
Well kept park in a busy location in LA. Observatory looks amazing on the mountainside. Not a great spot to view the Hollywood sign if that’s your goal, but many fantastic hiking/walking trails to enjoy.
Nick Xie
Beautiful place to catch a sunset. Stunning views and gorgeous art deco architecture on the observatory itself. The inside is also worth checking out!
Christian Kolb
Ok, parking is a pain, if you can park in the lower parking lots it is free. You can take a bus to the observatory and see everything. Also, if you park in the lower parking lot, you are closer to most of the trails. There is a good place to take photos of the Hollywood sign from the observatory, but walk around the trails and you will find better.
Ellen Albig
If I had been there on a day I could have ridden the carousel and toured the observatory, I would have given it 5 stars. The views of the city and the setting sun are breathtaking. I recommend checking ahead to make sure an event is not happening at the Greek Theater on the day of your visit. There was on our first attempt to see the sunset, we got caught up in traffic and missed it. Definitely plan to get into the park well ahead of the time for sunset.
Bill Powell
Wow!! Has to be the NUMBER ONE place to be in LA if visiting
I went in January
I parked in the lot and hiked up (about a mile). Make sure to bring water as there isn't much available.
I targeted to get there around 3:30 to make the 5:20 sunset. The walk around the area and observatory is free. There are restrooms.
Parking is available for a fee yet not sure of the price (and didn't seem to be much availability)
Michelle “Mdah” Hollingshead
Great view of the city observatory was closed it’s open Thursday-Sunday. Parking is 10/hour. Good place to get a picture of the Hollywood sign
Darshan Dhillon
Good all around view but confusing entry.only place in LA you need to show your vaccination record and wear a mask too. Can not enter without that.Hollywood sign cants be seen in afternoons and after sunset.

Really amazing place for fantastic views and knowledge on space. It should be known that unless you pay for parking, you're gonna have a bad time finding any at all and the walk up the mountain will be a mission. But aside from all that this place is gorgeous. Great view of LA, and good view of the Hollywood sign. Side note: you may notice the lines for the bathroom outside, just go inside and use the bathroom downstairs. No one really knows about those and you don't have to pay to get in.
Julia Lee
Good place for relax and proposal(!?
Great spots for viewing LA.
More and more ppl here due to the sunset is really beautiful!
Street parking is $10/hour, no matter where you park, we parked 15 min walk away….
Diane Sadowski
Beautiful Observatory with awesome views of LA, especially at sunset and nighttime. Well narrated planetarium show and interesting exhibits. Parking is very limited and the Cafe was closed.
Francisca Palacios
I absolutely love this place, with the best views any time of the day, u r warrantee to be at the best spot and get all the best angles of LA. Day or night.
Our day started very early in the day (6 am) we a group of hikers from Baja and San Diego, got there before the crowds and got to enjoy seeing and walking among the clouds. There are so many trails and this time I get to guide our advance group so instead of taking the one with the most traffic, I found one that I enjoy very much and add a "dangerous" sense without putting my group at risk, we made it to the top (behind the so famous Hollywood sign and met with the rest of the group, we took a bunch of pictures and then we descended to the spot just below the sign to again take a whole bunch of more pictures. So whether u r a local or a tourist visiting, it's worth going and spent ur day either at the observatory, strolling around, or hiking up to the top.
Regina Bryant
Nice view on the mountain to see the Hollywood sign and the scene of the valleys that surround it! The observatory was closed this day 😔It's probably really beautiful at night! …
Prabhasa Kalkur
Super-crowded post-COVID, expect long lines especially on weekends. Both day and night views are absolutely worth seeing. Will take at least 3-4 hrs to cover the observatory if you’re a science enthusiast
Tim Stone
It was closed when we were there but it cook to walk around the building. The views are amazing. It does cost $10 per hour to park.
Thaer S
Visiting the Griffith Observatory is a must when you visit LA. It can be very busy, especially on the weekends and evenings, but worth it.
The views are the best. We decided to visit late afternoon to avoid the evening crazy busy.
Daniel Pilz
the observatory is awesome. very interesting museum. worldclass views over los angeles at nighttime.
make sure to be up there before 10pm. the park closes. you can not drive up there.
we took an uber up and walked back down. the walk is downhill but it is an easy descent.
Shirley M
Beautiful views! The observatory was closed on a Tuesday, apparently only opened from Thursday-Sunday or something like that but still a nice visit.
Evelyn C
If you love a beautiful walk, trails and enjoy seeing a gorg view with lots of dog's as I do this is the spot for you. There is also a cute little coffee shop with delicious pies 😋 if you have a pet definitely a must bring! Just prepare for a little traffic going up hill and parking can sometimes be hectic. …
Lesley Anderson
Great place and the planetarium show is excellent, only down side I thought was cafe doesn't have a huge selection but seeing as it's free entry to the observatory itself thats a miner detail. Great for photo shots of LA and the Hollywood sign and Great walking trails
Gary Summerfield Jr
This place is in many movies. I really enjoyed walking around to see the views of LA. The observatory was closed on the day we went, but you could still walk around. Parking could potentially be a bit of a pain, but the day we went it was easy in and easy out.
Shruti Shah
Amazing observatory! You can see the hollywood sign and the city skyline. Its best to visit when skies are clear. You can easily spend half a day to full day here.
The entry is free. But because of covid restrictions you need to wear a mask, carry vaccination proof and an ID.
The employees are giving information about the exhibits at certain intervals of time. Very informative and it amuses all age groups.
I went here on two different instances, once during the day and once in the evening and the views of the city are spectacular!
You can hike or drive to this place. There is a bird sanctuary in this park and you can spot a lot of different types of birds.
Parking is a challenge here. There is limited capacity next to the observatory and on a busy day you are asked to park along the road to the observatory and you might have to walk for 5-10 mins minimum to get to the observatory.
Bond C
One of the best places in LA .. you can see whole city and gain more knowledge of universe at the same time. ..you can see Hollywood board ... And then walk down the trails .. must suggested for all if you are in LA ..spend 4-5 hours and you will not regret ..
Mel888
Just wanted to check night view very quick after visiting LA Zoo. I love Griffith Park. I often bringing family and friends who visiting LA. Is a must place to go. However that night was pack of people and difficult to find parking. I noticed they have new wing statue outside.
Gina DeVita
It's a funny story!! Ever since I saw the movie La-La Land, I've become obsessed with going there... Tried to go 4 years back with my former fiancee and the the place was closing literally as I tried to go inside!! The next time I came to Hollywood it was being remodeled... The 3rd time was a charm, even though I was travelling alone, I spent a few hours wandering around, taking selfies... It was all I dreamed of, the place is majestic 💓
graciano b
If you want to enjoy a long hiking day and you have the time ,You can depart from the old Zoo park.
From there if you walk to Hollywood sign is like miles trip. Is no extreme is jus a bit hard but the look is great to Sun valley, All the LA area and even Long Beach in a good day.
Lupin Alexandra
Thé Museum is ok but the cafeteria with the astonishing view and the planetarium are incredible and make the visit worth it. Beware of difficult parking access due to restricted hours since the Covid.
Alison Shouse
Fantastic location. The views are incredible. You can see the Hollywood sign clear as day. The views of the back are something to behold. I wish the roof and the inside were open to the public.
Kathy Carlson
Beautiful park. We had a picnic and enjoyed the views. We took photos at the angel wings with the Hollywood sign in the background. Nice gift shop.
Judy
This is my go to place for any date night hour, it has it ALL!

cool place to visit! be mindful that there’s a huge number of cars parking and walking up but there was still a relatively empty car park at the top! you’ll also need your vaccination details ready
Muddaship
Lovely views of LA skyline and Hollywood sign. Be sure to have ID and CV-19 vaccine records handy for entry into the Observatory.
Omar Vazquez
One of the best places to get a great view of the Hollywood Sign. Not only the sign but amazing views overlooking downtown Los Angeles and surrounding areas on a clear day.
Michelle Randle
Love it the views are magnificent and inspiring. To enter the building is free but you must have your COVID vaccination card and ID to enter.
Shivam Sharma
Great place to visit. Accessible by Public transportation. LADOT takes you up the Observatory and brings you back at the city and that too free of cost.
Daniel Grimason
I recently visited Griffith Park and overall had a positive experience. The park itself is beautiful, with plenty of trails to explore and breathtaking views of the city. There are also several amenities, including a golf course, an observatory, and a couple of museums.
However, the only downside to my visit was the parking situation. I ended up having to park 20 minutes away on the side of a road, which was a bit inconvenient. I did see some parking lots within the park, but they were all full.
Despite the parking issue, I would still give Griffith Park a 4 star rating. The park itself is amazing and there is so much to do. Just be prepared to do some walking or arrive early to snag a spot in one of the parking lots.
Genie Lutz
The views do not disappoint. Best to visit on a haze free day to see wonderful views of the city as well as the Hollywood sign on the hills. Limited parking in by the Observatory but plenty on the hill leading up to it.
Æbîlēne HNrs
Nice hike last weekend. Not too hot. This is a good place to do a regular hike. Has a lot of trails that can be taken on different days so that you don't get tired of seeing the same view over and over. So far we've take four routes/trails going to the observatory and the sign. All trails are easy hikes with varying elevations which makes it a bit challenging. There are tough rugged trails that are available but sometimes too hard because they are not frequently used by many. There are also a lot who do horseback riding up to the top. All peaks have a beautiful view of Los Angeles. It is always best to hike when it's cooler than on summertime.
Jessica Daem
This place might deserve five stars. But Don't let the free Price tag fool you. It's $10 an hour to park anywhere near the Griffith observatory. And honestly to have a nice time you need about three hrs.
Parking is free though down by the hiking areas which I can see can be really cool I didn't get a chance to do that this time but probably come back just for hiking.
Keep in mind if you park in the free zone thinking you might hike to the observatory, it's 2 miles uphill.
Cynthia Ramirez
Brush canyon trail. First time we've gone to the west side of the mountain. Easy access using Google maps. Trail has a steep beginning (about a mile with 600+ ft el climb) but once you're on the Ridgeline it's an easy walk to see the iconic Hollywood Sign. Lots of foot traffic & a few horse groups as well. Safe for solo hikers during the daytime. Lots of dogs (PLEASE HYDRATE YOUR PETS, we saw too often dogs that were in poor condition with the heat). Overall, highly recommended.
Stanley Rucci
Way nicer than you can imagine. This place has so much to offer! You can spend days here and not see it all. Free to visit
C M
Spectacular hikes and views, as always. Besides the Hollywood sign hike, Glendale Peak trail offers stunning views, a stop by a fragrant garden, and a wonderful moderate workout.
Anilu Rodriguez
This park it's huge you can get lost if you're not familiar with the area, it has different areas for picnics, bbqs, playgrounds, restrooms and more. I came for a birthday party and it was perfect for the kids to run around and enjoy the outdoors. I was surprised to see how clean the restrooms were, the only problem is the parking it was hard to find one or maybe I visited the park on a busy day.
Edgardo Escamilla
Nice place.. amazing view to the Hollywood sign and city of Los Angeles. It as cold that day.. but still great!.. so interesting to learn how the universe, the time and space works. The museum is great. I couldn't believe I was touching a small part of a meteorite lol.. there was a nasty gringa asking me to move away for her to take a picture... but other than that, it was so nice 🤭
戴禎慧
Hard to find parking and a he parking is $10/hr. Which is the time hiking up and down. Couldn’t have much time enjoying the view. The night view was cool but there’s other place way more better than here. For example the Elysian park is definitely more recommended than here. The observatory is not free, it needs tickets!
Ardi Tooki
It is a beautiful place for a walk, to date, to chill, to hike, to have a beautiful view of Los Angeles and valley. I would highly recommend it and it is free :)
Ricardo Robles
If you love beautiful views and an easy hike the Observatory is always open to the public for the most gorgeous view however the observatory Museum building is open Monday through Friday an Amazing laser showed that they have you have to come see it.
Yarek Locia
Great view all around and staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Make sure either to get early to find parking or be prepare for decent hike. They still require prove of vaccination so be prepare to have card on yourself or have a picture of it with an ID.
fm 4139
Spectacular view of Los Angeles city. The Hollywood sign also can be seen. The valley smog can blur the view. Go there early to get a good parking spot at the mountain top besides the obsevatory, it’s very crowd if you want to see the sunset.
Gay Turley
It is a hard uphill hike. Bring lots of water and stop in the shade when hot. You don't get a good site of the Hollywood sign until you were all the way up there. You can turn to the right and go to the observatory
Abhishek Thakkar
The observatory is good to watch especially for kids. It is located on a hill from which there are good views of both "HOLLYWOOD" sign and Los Angeles city. Those two things were great!
James Beane
I never realized how much there was to see here. This was a great place to learn a little about space and the Earth.
The restroom in the parking lot is pretty nasty, so hold it if you can and use the restroom inside, which is clean.
Awesome views of Los Angeles and Hollywood from here.
James Caldwell
Awesome hike but not easy! The top is really beautiful though. If you wqnt to goninside the Obs, youre gonna need a vax record and id!
Elmo Holmes
Beautiful view! First time in California and we decided to go check it out. The hike up the hill raised the anticipation and at the top it was worth it.
Micha
The Griffith Observatory is the best location to see L.A. from above. Get here early (like 6am-early) to park for free right at the top and to see the sun rise over the city. You can also make an early-morning hike up to the observatory if you’re so inclined. During the day it can get really hot here, especially in summer, so skip the wait and get up early.
Dina Jones
I live 2 miles fron this wonderful park. I had visited this park some many times since long time for hiking, taking my dogs to the park, barbecue with the family I love this park.
Betina McCadney
We did the 1 mile hike up. Steep but short. Very worth it once we got to the to the observatory. Coming down was tricky in a couple of places. Fun
A Brian Anderson
The observitory always gets 5 stars. Watched the sun set at the summer solstice (you can see the line in the concrete). Parking is $10 per HOUR! Don't need a mask for outside. Inside is only open Fri. Sat. Sun. There are a couple of picnic tables on the west side and clean bathrooms. Most folks here are human and nice, more intelligent than other places at lower elevations. I saw an angel...
Sadhana Ghimire
A great view of LA downtown. Amazing. It was super busy on Saturday. So highly recommend to go during week days if you want to drive up to the park.
Gonzalo
Impressive place! Very good views of Hollywood and its sign, we couldn’t get into the observatory, but it was still definitely worth it.
Long Mac
Went to LA zoo lights. Fun, awesome. Super kid friendly. Hot chocolate n churros. Pizza. Entertainment. Good vibes all around. Kids loved. Family bonding time. Great gift!!!!!
Quoc-Liem Vu
If you're visiting LA for the first time. Griffith park has the best view of the entire city as well as a being in a spot that is shown in movies.
Isaac Delgado
It's a very cool place to visit with family and friends, very calm and relax to rest and/or have a good time.
Landscapes are amazing and it is very tourist
Alex
It is a beautiful place full of knowledge from the stars and the constant search for more information about what we ignore. It is highly recommended to visit and walk its trails to the top.
Suchi Balaji
It was closed but we were able to spend time at the park and also got a view of the Hollywood sign. TIP : You can park for free at the Greek theatre and ride the bus.
Mayur Patel
If you are visiting Los Angeles, chances are you will visit the Griffith Observatory on your trip, with good reason. This is one of the best views of the city during the day and at night, and you can also see the Hollywood sign from here during the day. The Observatory is free to visit and there is plenty to learn about astronomy and telescopes. In the basement there is information about asteroids and every planet - including the ability to weight yourself on each planet! The Adler planetarium is a wonderful experience as well and I would recommend paying for the show at least once!
LaDonna Mackover
It was absolutely beautiful up there we went up to watch the sunset and try and get a picture of the Hollywood sign but it was a little foggy but it was still very beautiful
Nick Harutyunyan
It’s a unique outdoor space in a city that is not well known for its outdoor amenities. Discovering Griffith Park uses the park’s extensive trail network as an anchor to explore the park in full, whether on foot, wheel, or hoof. Readers will also find out where the best views of the Hollywood sign are, where they can catch free Shakespeare on summer evenings, and how to attend one of the legendary Los Angeles Breakfast Club meetings for good food, good friends, and a bit of early morning learning. Also, Griffith Park offers Camp Hollywoodland for Girls. Nestled in a 55-acre area overlooking the Hollywood Hills, this camp conducts weekly, weekend, and parent-child sleepover camps for girls age 6-17, operated by the Los Angeles City Recreation and Parks Department. And also offers Boys Camp located on Spur Road off Griffith Park Drive. The camp provides organized camping on weekends and holidays, open to boys 7-14 years of age. Organized groups of 50 or more people may rent the camp during unscheduled periods.
Saramay Benavides
Griffith Park observatory is free for all to appreciate . Parking is 10 dollars you should get there early to get the best parking . The VIEW is Amazing
Yuka Takemon
Sunset views were awesome! Better to plan ahead and get there well before sunset as they close off the roads to cars when the parking lots get full.
Jacqueline Alban
This is an amazing resource, free of charge, we visited at night and the views of LA are amazing. Staff were extremely knowledgeable, passionate and made the whole visit very interesting.
Felix O
Exciting experience. Scenic views of LA Basin and Hollywood sign. There is a space and science exhibition.
Anne Garner
Had a lovely time hiking here on New Years Day. Weather was perfect, not too many people, lovely views. 🙂 …
Janice T
The architecture of the observatory is worth the visit. The education about our universe is priceless. The entire experience is memorable.
Leyton M
The entrance of this park can be rather chaotic, but when you get to the part of the trail without cars, it turns into a very nice and peaceful trail with views all around. There are different views that you will see the further you travel. Parts of the main trail are still very steep and are not ideal for running. I unfortunately strained my calf here and it was difficult on the return.
Ray T
Great place to see sunset and night view. Must go. Parking is $10/hr.
Mike Defibaugh
I haven't really been there in a couple of decades even though I live in Los Angeles. Just such a beautiful place and so much to do. Visited both the Autry Museum and the Griffith Observatory today.
Michael Busse
Griffith Park is a spectacular and underrated resource for LA residents and visitors. There are quite a variety attractions, including a museum, the observatory and planetarium, a beautiful outdoor concert venue, and tons of trails both easy and challenging.
There are several entrances and not all of the internal rods connect, so do some research ahead of time and be prepared with directions if you want to see a specific part. You may have to leave the park and re-enter through another entrance to get to another part of the park.
I love the Fern Dell area for shady walks and picnics. The helicopter pad east of the observatory has some of the best views of the city. There is lots of wildlife in the park as well, and you can see coyotes and bobcats if you’re there early in the morning or late at night.
I’m taking away one star because there are too many golf courses. There are three, plus driving ranges. LA has no big meadow-like parks that are actually usable by the people …but we found space 45 holes here.
Amanda Bravo
Nice evening walk or hiking spot. I like parking at the Ferndell park with lots of parking and spots to get coffee or tea if you'd like. Dog friendly.
Dr. Carla Ramos
Simply beautiful views. Great trail for a good hike or even a jog, if one is ok jogging up hill. Dusty trail so wear shoes that you are ok getting dusty.
Ranjeet Patil
The view of Los Angeles was obstructed due to haziness of clouds. The Observatory had limited timings and was closed during my visit. The HOLLYWOOD sign can be clearly seen. An hour well spent.
Caleb Brackin
So many exhibits to see and experience here! Definitely pay extra for the planetarium. The best views of the city
Patrick A. Hall
Went to see the Hollywood sign at Griffith Park near the Observatory. Nice view. Can take pictures of you with wings
Rizwan Khan
It was very cool and interesting! The staff were informative and enthusiastic, especially the teacher for the comet kitchen show. Additionally, there was a very immersive projection show about possible life on other planets. The giant telescope was amazing too, although you only get abt 20 seconds to look inside. The displays about the planets were fun and interactive, with scales that tell you what your weight would be on that planet. There was also a seismograph that recorded the vibrations in the floor. Another plus is you get to see the beauty of LA from top of the mountain, the Hollywood sign, Tesla coil among other. A must see.
Wendy Danbury
I saw the free Shakespeare in the park production of Macbeth, and it was well done, with especially stellar performances by the weird sisters, Banquo, and Lady Macbeth. I am glad that the city is building a new stage and continuing to this tradition of summer Shakespeare plays.
The parking lot (Lot 2) was not easy to find and we had to drive around a bit before we decided to use a different navigation system. The management definitely needs to add more signs to help people find the eight parking lots and attractions.
Denis Canuel
Really nice view of Los Angeles! It's best to go just before sunset so that you can experience day and night time photography. The paid parking is $10 and it's quite crowded so keep that in mind.
Felipe Lopez
So many trails to hike and sight see with awesome views of different parts of LA Burbank and other cities....
Amanda Peachy
😍😍 😍 one of my favorite places to go. Blessed to experience this and the observatory was truly amazing …
Reybyn Euceda
Beautiful place and stunning views, but parking is a big problem. If you want to see the sunset be prepared to walk a lot
maggie kamen
Griffith Park was not what we expected, but it was a wonderful experience! If you are not ready to walk then you will need to settle for distant, beautiful, scenic photos of the Hollywood sign and LA. The Observatory itself is beautiful and interesting, spending time inside learning is just as fun as the outside hiking and finding perfect photo opps.
Aletse C
This zoo is packed but the animals are in bad conditions they seem to be thirtsty, sad and hungry they were laying down hidden. Their cages were all dirty and stincky it seems like there's not a lot personal working to be taking care of them. Other than that my kids love it even though there was few animals that we were able to see since there were a lot that were in treatment. Food is a decent price and the hamburgers are good. The 3 star are for the conditions that some animals are.
Geoffrey Chavez
Get there EARLIER than you think for the Observatory. Check out the Planetarium! It's worth it. If you're looking for the LA experience, this is it. Fri-Sun, plan your day and check out everything that's available. Public Telescope, Dark Camera Room, ALL the rooms.
Kat Terrill
Always a fabulous view and plenty to see on and on the observatory. The basement has a lot of fun activities.
Terry Bexton
Beautiful park. I was blown away by the closeness of the Hollywood sign… it was a sight to see!! The car ride up made me a little bit nauseous…but maybe it was just my husbands driving…LOL..
Jeff
A place that you shouldn’t missed when your trip to LA. Admission is free, and I believe the bus to get up here is free too. And the most loved part of my visit in this place is getting the chance to look at Saturn with the big telescope on their roof top level!
Jamal .Johnson
The Observatory and certain streets were closed due to filming, but we still walked trails at the park to take in the amazing views. It was a cloudy day in SoCal, but these photos don't do it justice. Although steep, the walk to get to the point of seeing the Hollywood sign wasn't far. I recommend dedicating 1-2 hours!
J Kim
Nice but no so great, but okay and fine for sure. But,
If u have enough time, recommend to go there but if u already have other choices, then just go there not here.
Justine “Honeybee” De La Cruz
Nice park with alot of things to do and vendors have fresh fruit, tacos, drinks. Plenty of parking, the 🎠 was only 2$ per ride. Park wasn't packed and they also have train rides. …
Ric Murphy
Nice park with a good view and walking trails. Plenary of benches and place to eat and rest.. Parking $10 per hour at the observatory.
Léonardo Fuica
Amazing view of L.A. and locations. A most place to see. There is also a small statue of James Dean where they shot a scene of "Rebel without a cause"
Di Feng Tan
A fun bike ride to get to. Hardest climb of my life so far. It was a hot hot day. I think it was busy all around the bathrooms and all areas. Nice view of the city. Did not go inside.
Daniel Block
Super beautiful but really crowded. Definitely a must see in LA at sunset.
Cynthia
Good view! Just super crowded, even on days where the observatory is closed. Parking along the road is $10/hr but meters were broken 🤷♀️ …
Shawn Craddick
What a beautiful place- music- exercise- walk your Dogs- alot of hills through out- great for getting the heart pumping. One of the best venues to watch music. I've been going here for 30 plus years....
Awesome setting... Where the woods (kinda) meets the city- Surfing- Music- City-
Mark Sproul
Stunning views over the city we came at sunrise and would definitely recommend
Junie Rivera
What a beautiful view of Los Angeles and the Hollywood sign. There is free parking, and an area you can pay and park. You'll still need to walk a great distance and up an incline. So wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Be prepared for the weather as it can be windy at the Observatory. People were bringing their pets as well. We stayed for the planetarium presentation which was approximately 25 minutes. The line starts outside so if you want a seat in the back, get on line early. Don't forget to locate the James Dean bust at the park. The telescope is open in the evenings. The cafe has a small menu, ready made items and such.
Garry Kepes
The train area was great for kids and adults alike. They need more money to restore the old trains as rust is acitve.
Công Duy Vương Đào
You can not see the Hollywood sign unless you use your phone or camera. However, it's still a ideal location to see sunset.
Yilei (Anyrainel)
Beautiful views of LA during the night, many good spots to take portraits. You can also learn a bit about the telescope and the universe here.
Edith Guadarrama
This place is beautiful with the best views!!! Make sure to bring your covid vaccine card!
MiguelAngel Martinez
Terrific place to enjoy a bike ride
Throw a frisbee, kick a ball......
Oh..... and enjoy a train ride.
GoodLiving Tree and Gardening Service
at it's best..... "FAMILY TIME"

The night view is definitely better but parking is so limited at dawn. I went there in the morning instead, with a few people and free parking on the mountain top.
Veda Zuniga
First time here, I've been in California for 26 years! This place was awesome! I drove all the way to the top amd parked. Small amount of parking. When I went it was a Tuesday afternoon so it wasnt super busy. Parking was $10 an hour, not bat at all! The view was awesome, even tho it was a foggy day! There is so many trails all through the park itself! You can park almost anywhere up the road heading to the top, parking was $10 an hour as well, and hike on so many trails! Awesome place!
Gabi Garcia
The view is wonderful. It was not very busy, so got to enjoy it a lot.
BonbarGankins
Great view and a wonderful experience, even when the inside is closed. It is drone friendly, which is awesome for such a vantage point. Probably the prettiest place I have ever been, it had views of the ocean, downtown LA, the Hollywood sign, the San Gabriel mountains, and basically anything else you could want to see in LA. I would definitely recommend it for families, people, couples, anyone.
Miss Valeria
Great place to visit while in LA. Don't miss out on the planetary shows. Amazing presentations about the universe. And of course, the views you have in the outside.
Kathryn Martinez
OMG! 🙏🏻💜😎 Visited this beautiful place! Bring back the most important and wonderful memories of my youngest part of my life... …
Rich Lambert
It's free! If it's a clear day, you have to make the trek up to see this inedible museum of astronomy. The sights out over the valley are also incredible.
Linda Huckaby
We visited the Observatory for a well-done planetarium program. We also wandered through all the displays where people were available to answer questions and explain some of the exhibits. It was an inexpensive way to spend an afternoon.
Parking is a problem. If you park near the Greek Theatre, there is a bus that runs up and down the mountain.
Chris Gross
You can still visit on the weekdays but it is closed open only on weekends.
It's packed with people on weekends and parking is hard to find so make sure you bring water for the walk.
Leo Gonzalez
If your into space, planets and stars this awesome place is for you. Had to walk pretty far as parking close to the observatory was taken. Surprised to see wildlife two deers walking around. Beautiful views of the city. Overall great place to visit.
Marvin Lara
Amazing views, iconic LA place, science shows and expo, and free! What not to like about it? Very beautiful sunsets. Could get little crowded but it is big enough. Totally recommended.
Danyelle E.L.
Careful where you park! They were towing left and right. Some event was going on too. Was a nightmare. No place to park that wasn't a several mile up hill walk. We tried again the next day and had better luck. A great place to visit and see the views. The Hollywood sign is also visible for good photo opps. Free to walk around but $10 to park for 2 hours. Credit card only! (Or was it $15 🤔)
jort enthusiast
Fun free things to do here by yourself or even with a whole group of people! You can choose to pay to watch a show in the planetarium ($4-$7 per person) or choose to see the Tesla coil in action every hour or so. Best part is sometimes they let you see through the building's telescopes to see planets or stars. Even if the line is too long, they have telescopes in the front to see planets. Great experience overall, keeps me coming back.
Gris Val
Need more communication with the parking they close the parking lot on the top area and make us park 15 min or 30 min to the top ,when we're walking almost the whole parking on top was empty and there were a lot more available on the street they don't have no consideration at all
Sofia Ricciardi
cool place EXCEPT for the fact they will charge you $10/hr to park along Western Canyon Road where you could be walking for over 20 mins just to get to the observatory. $10 (mostly likely $20 if you have to park farther down the road) is a mighty steep price for that and with the amount of cars they get on any given day, I’m not sure it’s justified.
for those looking to avoid that (potentially) high parking fee for roadside parking, I would try and time your visit by either going during less busy times or parking somewhere cheaper at the bottom and taking the trails up to it.
Andy Price
Observatory definitely worth a visit. Excellent views of Los Angeles and the Hollywood sign.
Rhys James
Bit of a hike up, but the Observatory is free entry (if you have COVID vax pass and a mask).
Great views from the top
Behnam Dashtipour
Nice view at night. Inside and outside both are interesting to see. Traffic and finding parking can be tough
Karoline Gardner
Really cool place to check out. Wish we had time to hang-glide but watching it is still fun!
Huma Patel
Very cool place. Especially the view was to die for. Its paid parking for those of you who don't want to hike up the trail. They do check the meter time so becareful. If you are looking to go for the sunset. GET THERE EARLY. The view was just beautiful.

The view of the city at night is why we came here tonight.
Traffic was super obnoxious for the super moon- thank goodness for ride-sharing. I can't even imagine what it was like to drive up in a personal car tonight. Note to self, check the astronomical news before heading up to the observatory in the future.

Cool areas and trails to hike on around the observatory. You can also see the Hollywood Sign on the trails around the trails (When it is not foggy).
Florin Cojocaru
awesome hike to get up to the top and view LA and the surrounding area
Travis Morris
Visited this place back on December 19, 2009 and let me just say this... California is something else. My kids and I enjoyed visiting and loved the scenery. We will be back again one day!!
Denni Wibowo
This place is amazing as always but parking is terrible as always (especially during summer break). Some tourist made mistakes with going to this place to see Hollywood sign and the don’t know that the best view from this place is toward LA. Not to mention the amazing exhibit insides. My son’s favorite is the Faraday Cage
Varun yadav
My favorite place in LA. Best view during sunset. Parking can be bit difficult so reach 1-2 hours before sunset
Naty Schaller
Very interesting film.. I recommend to watch it and there is a beautiful view as well
barry kat
Great view of L.A. Parking $10 hr. though. Don't park on side of road unless you want to hike. There is parking near observatory.
Rukshan Wilson
Excellent location to see the skyline of LA and bonus was being able to see the moon, Saturn and Jupiter through the telescope
Elizabeth Rivera
Lovely park! We did the boy scout trail to the observatory. Very uphill trail!

I'm a nerd. If you're a nerd, go here. Everything to do with stars and planets. This was the best part of my LA trip.
Maria Morales
Beautiful short hike up to the Observatory starting at Fern Dell. Lots of people but plenty of space along the path to share with everyone.
Found street parking close by before 9am on a Saturday morning.
Some people would say it's an easy hike but I did get winded along the way.
Bill Crosby
One of my favorite hiking places in LA. I grew up here and went constantly. Now that occasionally come to visit, we almost always come for a hike here.
I suggest parking down in Fern Dell and hiking up. It is not that long but will be hot. Bring water.
The observatory is really cool. Spend some time here. It is worth it.

Beautiful venue for outdoor concerts. First time here and I was amazed at how big the crowds can get. Bonus was that at didn't feel packed at all! Love the LA vibes.
Positive Vibes
The Views are Amazing, the bathrooms are clean and there are staff and police everywhere making it feel very safe and secure. The parking at the observatory is 10$ per hour or u can park on the side of the road on the way to the observatory. The views are breathtaking, you can see the sign one one side and the city on the other.
Zul Mazlan
A great view of HOLLYWOOD signage!! A nice park and decent children s playground
Dan Kunstman
Great place to get an up close view of the famous Hollywood sign.
Gemma Serenity Gorokhoff
Last time we were there was 5 years ago... even though we live in LA. Still breathtaking!
Moriah Honerkamp
Plenty of trails to hike. Plenty of people around to not feel alone but not crowded. Views are amazing.
Kevin McCullor
The weather was not the best, but we enjoyed the view we had.

"Griffith Observatory is an icon of Los Angeles, a national leader in public astronomy, a beloved civic gathering place, and one of southern California’s most popular attractions. The Observatory is located on the southern slope of Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park, just above the Los Feliz neighborhood. It is 1,134 feet above sea level and is visible from many parts of the Los Angeles basin. The Observatory is the best vantage point for observing the world-famous Hollywood Sign. Since opening in 1935, the Observatory has welcomed over 85 million visitors. Open late nearly every evening, Griffith Observatory’s audience is “the general public,” and it is one of the rare places where you will see people from every part of the region and from all parts of the world.
The Observatory is a free-admission, public facility owned and operated by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks in the middle of an urban metropolis of ten million people. The 67,000 square-foot building is one of the most popular informal education facilities in the United States and the most-visited public observatory in the world (with 1.6 million visitors a year). Griffith Observatory is a unique hybrid of public observatory, planetarium, and exhibition space. It was constructed with funds from the bequest of Griffith J. Griffith (who donated the land for Griffith Park in 1896), who specified the purpose, features, and location of the building in his 1919 will. Upon completion of construction in 1935, the Observatory was given to the City of Los Angeles with the provision that it be operated for the public with no admission charge. When it opened in 1935, it was one of the first institutions in the U.S. dedicated to public science and possessed the third planetarium in the U.S.
Fulfilling the Observatory’s goal of “visitor as observer,” free public telescope viewing is available each evening skies are clear and the building is open. More people (8 million) have looked through the Observatory’s Zeiss 12-inch refracting telescope than through any other on Earth. More than 18 million have seen a live program in the Observatory’s Samuel Oschin Planetarium.
The building operated continuously from 1935 until January 6, 2002, when it closed for a comprehensive renovation and expansion. This ambitious $93-million project renewed the Observatory’s world-class standing and restored and enhanced the Observatory’s ability to pursue its public astronomy mission, all driven by a commitment to excellence and enabled by a successful public-private partnership between the City of Los Angeles and Friends Of The Observatory. The renewed building reopened to the public on November 2, 2006. It has operated since then with steadily increasing attendance and cultural visibility."

Parking is a shitshow. Take a picture of broken parking meters on advice from staff. Otherwise expect a fine. Views and trails definitely breathtaking. Exhibits inside observatory are outdated.
Meghan Lin
Worth the trip at least once, it's gorgeous up there at night. Recommend going either very early or within an hour of closing if you don't want to park at the bottom of the mountain and have to walk all the way up. We were there on a Sunday night, an hour before closing, and the signs at the bottom said parking at the top was full, but we drove all the way up to see if we'd get lucky with parking anyway, and there were enough cars leaving at that time that we were able to grab a spot after a relatively short time in line.
Anette Wiborg
A great area with a nice view. It's perfect to stay here during sunset 🌇 …
Lindsay Long
Educational live presentation & the 360° Digital prjectionof the Samuel Oschin Planetarium at the Observatory is a wonderful experience for all ages. The short walking trails provide the fantasic city views. Don‘t miss the sunset moments !
Dayan Siri
Went for Hollywood sign hike. About 4 mile hike and got to see sign from the front and back. We started around 630 am which was little dark. Had parking available at the start of trail.
D MOORE
Carry out water bottles, mask, trash. Do not litter on trails. Please do not spray paint rocks and trees. Have a nice day!
Mike Q
Great views. Saw a lot of birds. Moderate hike but no shade anywhere, ranger said there were water fountains but half hour in and I didn't see any (was glad I brought water). Parking was ten dollars an hour, pretty outrageous, but what are you going to do.
was this review helpful or not? 👍 👎
Ceez
We saw Puscifer here. It's a great outdoor venue. Parking is not horrible unless you arrive late and have to park on the dirt area they have established.
Trino Gonzalez
This is the best place to take photos of the LA skyline and also a nice hiking destination or starting point. It wasn't very crowded like past visits. You can take the city bus from the Greek Theater so that you don't have to deal with parking at the top, although there seemed to be parking spots available this time. Everything is very accessible, the roof and lower levels are open to the public and they say anyone can use the telescope at night.(Never been at night, but one day I will try this).
Tom Scott
My first visit in over 10 years when extensive construction was done. Friday was totally pleasant and educational. A flash back to when we took our daughter as a child.
We were talking a selfish when a kind person offered to take a better picture. She took 4 and did it 👍.
A fun day was had!
Adrina Stubblefield
We had a fun day we took the kids on a train ride and then we went to the petting zoo
c hart
Cool spot unique in LA. Awesome building. Free to get a science lesson. Remarkable panoramic view of Los Angeles basin. Aggravating that so many cars vie for relatively few parking spots up top. Walk people! We trudged up the hiking trails; it’s less than a mile. Sadly, parts of it were alongside cars all blowing emissions into our air as they waited to move two inches at a time up the hill.
But the observatory is part of history and those who pay to see the planetarium are in for a small treat. It’s really worth a couple hours.
adam callif
Amazing view of LA still not open to the insde as of 5.17.22.. Sill worth going to!
CodeBlue FPV
Lovely place to visit, learn about the cosmos. Admission is free, must visit.
N LF
A must do if in LA well kept park with amazing views
Jim Zilora
Pretty neat place. Great views of city. Would love to actually see and look through the telescope.
Nestor Barrientos
I only visited the top of the park, the observatory and it is very nice but the park looks great and the surrounding is very nice also.
Adria Lawson
Fantastic place for our little kids and out big kids too.
Lots of activity options.
We all ended up having a great time. Bathrooms are easy to find.
We order food and was delivered to the park. We had our own water. It was a great busy day.
David Alf
A park that is truly the epicenter of nature in Los Angeles. The trail network is vast and provides unique and iconic views of the city at every turn. I highly recommend a sunrise hike [not during June gloom of course] for the best lighting conditions and less foot traffic.
Christopher Pearson
Great times can't wait to do it again. It was hard but worth every second. I couldn't keep pace like I would have been able before. That view made it worth more than I thought it would be. With the added bonus of completing something I thought I couldn't. I recommend this place to everyone. Especially if you can get there before dawn and see the sunrise from the top! Good luck be safe watch your step and bring water and a flashlight!
Ralf Assmann
I was only there for an hour, but it is a nice place to spend some time, learn something or just enjoying the beautiful scenery. Staff members there are really friendly. Parking was limited and really tight, but you can also park at a lower level and then walk the rest.
Arman Arghami
This place has beautiful scenery but it will be very hot on sunny days. Very little shade. Parking is a big problem. Not enough space. You may have to park down hill and walk up for 20 minutes. Get an Uber if you can. The observatory was awesome. The entrance was free, but you need to show proof of vaccination and a photo ID to get in!! Can't believe this is still a thing in fall of 2022.
Double Cross
This place is cool. A must see with great views of the city and Hollywood sign!!!!!
Randy
If you're trying to get a picture with the Hollywood sign. This is the best spot to make it happen. Very beautiful at sun set.
Mitesh Prajapati
Love to visit here and after reading all reviews now I'm writing this review for best experience of top view of LA city and Hollywood sign.
Must go and feel this view
Lucy M
I love this place. So many different trails to pick from and they all have great views. It’s a good place for all different types of hiking levels. Parking can be difficult though. Make sure you take comfortable, sturdy shoes, sun block, and water.
Köpi Tuba
A must visit when in LA. Plan on spending 2-3 houtärs if you want to see everything.
betosky51

Good place to spend with your friends or family.Came and see nothing to lose.

One of my fav parks In LA its beautiful and its very extended, u have a beautiful view to downtown LA 😍 and what else can I say visit and enjoy yourself company and clear your thoughts... well thats what I do and have a nice extended hike. When u get to the top won't regret see the sunset 🥰💘 …
Mark Pomerantz
Parking for Observatory a bit of a pain, but a clear Saturday nite , great for viewing both the heavens and the LA city scape.
Lidia Gunaka
Always a fun place to visit, hike, and tour the zoo.
Priti Bishnoi
Very nice view of the whole LA from this park. Scenic point, and there is also Griffith observatory to visit.
Mark Simpson
Griffith park was an honestly an amazing experience between the coyotes that came right up to the front of our car and the breathtaking views and iconic Hollywood sign that is viewable from the observatory the whole trip was unforgettable to say the least. Next time I’m in LA I will be visiting here again for sure. Bring hiking shoes, sunscreen, water bottles, and a snack for the trail, be prepared to break your bankroll for the $12 hourly parking rate, that is if u can’t find any of the free parking spots open. Chiaó
Ariana Garbela
Awesome place, but sadly, the observatory was closed during our visit 😔 we still got to see some awesome views of the Hollywood sign, totally worth it (especially if you enjoy hiking or the outdoors). Recommended! ❤️ …
Miranda Stewart
Great place to get the perfect view of the Hollywood sign. Careful when coming up the curvy hills, speed limit 10. Parking can be difficult at peak times. If you can't find parking just drive around and enjoy the scenery and circle back around, something will open up. Take it all in and live in the moment.
Leo Coleman
Beautiful park. I had lived in Los Angeles my whole life less than a mile from the park. Dantes View s one of my favorite picnic areas. Lots of friendly hikers, dog walker and just everyday folks there. And you might see deer 🦌 there!
Well maintained considering how many people use the park. …
Alfred Shum
Lovely place, admission is free. Must visit
Santos Adjalla
Gorgeous!
You see how nice the place is outside, wait until you have seen the inside.
Bigger than it actually look outside, with different floors and themes, guided tours ...
The food court has a good selection, at a reasonable place.
Kids have a blast.
Definitely recommend it!
Laura Rico
We went this past weekend and it was actually quite nice. They ask for your covid vaccination prove so keep that in mind. Also bring a face mask as it is required to enter to the observatory.
Taylor white
I wanted to see that famous la la Land picture of the whole city sprawled out in front of you, this did not disappoint. it was hot and for some reason they didn't have the inside open, but they threw up a couple of shade spots. I guess that's better than nothing, overall amazing. I love the winding mountain road that it's on, very close to the Hollywood sign
Romano Cervantes
I went there on Sunday ..oo my god...there is no parking at all. And if you find on the street it is$ 10 PR 2 hrs even sunday what f. Very bad experience i came from san Francisco it should be free on sundays in the street. I just go around don't stay on parking be aware of that
Nygyl Bryyn
As an indigenous person it's really great to have a park like this to get outside of the concrete jungle. The park is very well maintained brush and growth is trimmed and taken care of there's plenty of parking everywhere and there's like a whole bunch of many parks inside this giant Park it's huge surely you will find a place that you can enjoy and absorb up some nature outside of the hustle and bustle of busy Los Angeles. I go there with my dog King all of the time! He really loves it!
Larry Carino
Go for walks regularly. Many trails. Lots of nature. On 5-7-21 I saw 2 Coyotes just below The Greek Theatre. On 5-13-21 I saw 2 deer, a baby Hawk attempt to leave the nest and fly off(it didn't), plenty of rabbits and other wildlife. That was from the Western/Los Feliz side. The pictures of Arches were taken 5-25-21. Lots of Free Parking. P.S. One of the best places to observe the Hollywood Sign is Lake Hollywood Park. Free Parking.
Luaran Luiz Ferreira
Good place to breath pure air, run, walk, do exercise. Beautiful views
Richard Rojas
I went to To the museum in front of the zoo and met up with some Pasadena pacers and we ran 7 miles around Griffith park
Isha Chaknalwar
Griffith Observatory, a view of the Hollywood sign and a great overlook of the city during day or night! Amazing spot for sunset.
Also be prepared for a 10-15 min walk (up not so steep hill) because parking closer to the observatory might be full. You can park in the free parking lot at the bottom of the hill and walk up!
Joshua Conley
Iconic observatory and well worth the visit. Plenty of education shared here and it is done in some fantastic ways. There's a great view of the Hollywood sign.
The crowds were pretty thick but I expected that. What I didn't expect was the $20 per hour parking.
You can park for free and hike over a mile to visit though, if you'd prefer. There are many hiking routes to the observatory.
Mauricio Guevara
The best view of Los Angeles and a great place for Kids and adults
JJ Herman
Huge park. I think it’s a great place for locals and tourists, however some parts are more touristy than others. I love going here, and usually stick to my favorite spots because I want to avoid all the crowds. Would recommend if you have a few hours or days, it’s so nice that this park has so much variety.
Jerry Ibarra
When on a short but difficult hike off the beaten path. Found a spot on top overlooking LA. I was feeling confident that my 1 1/2 hr allowed for a short hike was nicely filled, thanks to the years of care the city has place on this park. More importantly is how beautiful the park on its own merit is a spectacular array of nature and has remained resilient to endure the many people that flock to the park for some quality R&R.
Palito Man
Such a beautiful view what can I say when you're surrounded nothing but nature. Worth the trip if you enjoy outdoors . Depends how long you're willing to travel here. The hikes are at least 5/10 in difficulty. Not hard at all. Take plenty of water it's not easy to find a water stop.
Kevin Sewell
This is one of the most iconic parks in all of Los Angeles. It has amazing views, great hikes, and you can reach the top and have a panoramic view of all of Los Angeles. On a clear day, it's stunning! For anyone who wants to visit LA, the Griffith Observatory combined with Griffith Park makes it a must see spot!
JC
This is the best place for serious walkers. Wide paths, lots of shade, and not alot of people during the week. On weekends it is crazy busy with people forgeting to walk on the right. Runners in groups run 4-5 runners across with no regard for others, so hold your ground, they will move. Week days are best. Lovely place.
Eugene Kovshilovsky
Great place to visit on a nice day. I recommend driving as far up the road as you can to get to the observatory because parking is $10/h no matter where you park.
Parveen Kumar
What a place you can see LA on the top of Griffith observatory, crowded but you must go whenever you visit 😉 for LA
chiquita Ruiz
An amazing view, different routes to hike. You can see part of the Hollywood sign but far. But once you’re on the top at the observatory you feel so much peace people goes and stretch or just lay on the grass infront of the observatory. The beauty thing is that you can go with a hiking partner or the whole family. Great experience
shmyla siddiqui
Cool place to visit. It’s a walk to the park and the observatory so be sure to dress comfortably. Parking was pretty expensive on the weekend. $10 an hour. The observatory was free. Bathrooms were clean and we spent about 2 hours there. You can see the Hollywood sign and the view is beautiful!
ISSAC AGUILAR
Love it❣️ Great place to hike and connect with nature. I love it!
S
Nice city park in LA! Great view and observatory!
Antoine Gandy
An amazing park to break a good sweat while taking in amazing views of all the surrounding areas, especially downtown Los Angeles. Not to mention, an opportunity to meet some really cool people from all walks of life. This park has quickly become one of my favorite spots to visit.
Amanda Kays
Great place to visit. Check times to make sure it's open. You can still go to the building but not able to experience the full effect of what it has to offer.
Alex
Great place to hike And get away from the city. Tons of trails all over the park. I like to start near rattlesnake trail and walk up the mountain
enes cihan cinar
It is pretty for the sunset. I haven't been in the observatory, but I’ve visited the park for the the view for the sunset. There might be traffic that may start before the parking lot. The left lane goes to the parking lot. But some intelligent people may want to cut your way just before the entrance. So, you may want to go a little bit early before the sunset to find a parking spot. The parking lot is not too big, so there is a chance you can't find a place. If that is the case, you can follow the right lane to go downhill. There should be some street parking spots. That would be useful to have parking lot crowd meters at the beginning of the road. It would prevent all those chaotic traffic.
Yvon Niu
Go there for the view and a learning experience! The telescoop is only open in the evening when we were there.
Raymond Soto
Great views and a pretty extensive walking trail
jose portillo
Griffith Park is an amazing trail adventure with views. You can park somewhere in Hollywood and end up at the old zoo with straight up hikes or medium trails. You can enjoy a 45 min walk or go all out for a serious 5-8 mile hike. All trails will lead you to a view.
Don't be a brave knucklehead night warrior, remember this is still nature's ground and the playground belongs to the wild. If you get caught don't blame the wild, blame yourself.
Go early (best weather) bring some water and take great pics.
Dilip Kumar Kacher
Griffith park is a nice place for trekking, walk and exploring nature more closely. Many sight views and good thing about this park is you can able to see whole LA city arial view. Many prefer to have horse ride to explore the park. Good parking space and LA zoo and train museum is nearby.
Joshua Gomez
It had been a while since I'd been out here. Everything looks so dry due to the drought and water restrictions. Traffic was heavy driving around looking for parking. Parking is very limited for the size of the park. Also be aware that even if you find parking, there may be time limits or restrictions. This can mean your car is towed if you are not careful. Please read the signs.
Christine
What a view! And so much to see and learn inside. Worth the trouble to get there. Parking was difficult (Greek Theater had a performance, so may have affected traffic volume), very little free parking, parking costs 10$ an hour. Check hours before you go.
mahima prabhu
Beautiful place for amazing views. The zoo and bird sanctuary are nice too. It offers a lot of hiking trails to the observatory situated at the top of the hill. Relaxing calm and scerene place. Must visit in LA
Patty H
Was a bit crowded, but we were able to walk around and it was a perfect evening.
Shaumik Mondal
Great exhibit and and fun place to learn about planets and space. Highly recommend watching the show in the planetarium.
If you want to see the telescope which is around 7pm, I recommend going super early to line up
Mansoor Ali
A great view point for city-view and Hollywood sign. Even more this observatory is very informational and has great artifacts. parking is limited and might require a half mile easy hike to reach from the parking spot.
Beatrice Schwartz
My husband and I love to hike. Lots of pave trails. Nice scenic views.
Abraham Gallegos
Great place for a hike or nature walk. I would rate this hike at about a good 5 out of 10, for me. Beautiful views and feels great being out in Nature anywhere. Took some nice pictures of what used to be the LA zoo for all to enjoy.
Hayden DeYoung
If you could only pick one thing to do in LA, this would be in the conversation. The exhibits are free, but the shows are $10 and worth every penny. Parking is $10 an hour at the top observatory lot. The views are incredible, but it does get crowded on weekends and at sunset, so parking is tough at those times. The best night to go is usually a chilly and clear weeknight night because it's less crowded
J Jara
Know before you go, they do check your COVID card ...so you must show proof of vaccinations card or pic of the card. Face mask are recommend. It's is really busy and nice to go. Parking is like $20 for two hours. There is a lot to see and if you get hungry there is a cafeteria and gift shop! It really awesome.
Brian Lucas
My backyard. So many activities are available. From horseback riding hiking golfing picnics train riding museums much more
Adam Colina
Absolutely stunning! You can see all the entire LA City on the top and the Hollywood sign. First time to visit here but the observatory were temporarily closed. It's a beautiful sightseeing and very clean. Parking is accessible with fee.
Max Forman
It's been greener than usual due to recent rains. Very spectacular views of L.A. and the county. The Hollywood sign was clear. There were lots of people, but there were still great photo opportunities. Seeing it for yourself is so much better than pictures.
Giridhar Manoharan
A place to recollect high school physics. You will need some time to go through all the facts written inside if you're interested.
This place is always crowded and very difficult to find parking. Especially during public holidays you'd need to park downhill and hike for a mile to get to the observatory.
This place has multiple clean restrooms.
Paul Grainger
Its a free visit and educational, park at the bottom for free and a short hike up to observatory..very interesting place. Griffith Griffith from Wales donated the land to LA.
Joanne Marriott
Great place to visit. If you are feeling fit then you can park at the bottom of the hill and do a mile hike to the Observatory. If not you can park near the top but be warned it costs $10 an hour to park there!
Steven Haas
Went to Travel Town in Geiffth Park for the first time in years just to share a memory with my family. Unfortunately Travel Town has lost a great deal of it's former glory from years ago. The children and families can no longer take any of the stairways to actually walk into the rail cars to get a sense of what it was like to take the train in earlier historical days. That is really a shame. However it is understandable when you see the disrepair the train cars have fallen into. It would be a safety concern. I am not sure why the park service has allowed the trains to fall into such disrepair. Probably budget issues. That said, it is still an interesting place for young families to go to get a sense of the old time Railroad for the kids. It is a bit of history we can't get back.
Bonnie
We went to a concert at the Greek theater located at the Park. First time in the area. Beautiful homes stacked all over each other and roads and side streets every direction. It's was night so I didn't get to see a whole lot. There were not so nice areas to close by but I guess that's how most cities are.
the denise reed principle
Not to be funny, but this visit was just a drive by. Finding a parking space was very time consuming, and the winding narrow road scared me. Thank goodness for a Californian who is a fearless driver. The views thru my spread fingers were awesome. I would have seen more if I wasn't so terrified of going over the edge. Plenty of other visitors didn't seem to mind because the place was crowded at 10am. Sorry no photos. Enjoy.
Chris P
Great views. Windy on a poor weather day. Dress appropriately. Easy parking. It's something you've got to do once and then come back and do it again. View the Hollywood sign, the city, the ocean, the sky.
Harley Whitehead
We went during the September ‘22 heat wave. Beautiful views and feels safe. I wasn’t used to the California heat being from Michigan so it was kind of misery until I got to look back on the pictures, then it was worth it! Make sure to wear grippy shoes or hiking boots, some terrain on the way back can be loose
Aniket Kale
The whole observatory is amazing and the amount of this to explore are also ample. Do enjoy the shows that are arranged here for a span of 35 mins.
And if you stay late, you might get a glimpse of Saturn from the 12 inch telescope that is kept for the visitors
Jose Rosario
Great view to look down at Los Angeles, which is a very interesting place to be.
Lisa Coles
Would of loved to have walks around the hills
SunFun
Even in the cool weather it was nothing short of nature's beauty
Eric Coy
Awesome views of downtown LA and the surrounding areas. You can see from Santa Monica all the way down to Long Beach on a clear day. Also great views of the Hollywood sign. Well worth the trip
Alexander
Holy moley. What a place.
The views of Los Angeles at night are stunning. You can also see the Hollywood sign from here.
Astronomy is my jam and they do a spectacular job of communicating fundamental astronomical and cosmological concepts to the public.
The telescope is free which is amazing, if you're willing to wait in line.
Parking is awful, especially since there was a concert at The Greek the same night we went, so be prepared to walk or pay for a bus/ride share.
Shako Khizanishvili
One of the top spots for sure to visit in LA for experience! Always super clean, and super nice to go back there.
james showalter
ABSOLUTELY A GREAT EXPERIENCE AND WENT TO L.A ZOO FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS 😁👍🏻 …
Kellie Whitehead
Great attraction - super interesting exhibits. Very clean & elegant. Friendly staff and of course amazing views. Great options in the cafe too at typical prices.
Greg Owens
Nice place, great views, lots of walking
Jim Kara
A large natural green area bounded by the tapered east end of the Santa Monica Mountains on it’s west side and the LA River on the east side.
One of my favorite places to go, as it’s been my respite from the urban world when working in Los Angeles!
There’s many online articles on the background of this famous land, so I’ll keep it simple and relate my experience for recreational purposes.
As one of the largest city parks in the country, this place seems to have it all! From short walks, work-outs and hiking, to family gatherings, picnics, parties and sports of just about anything that doesn’t involve snow (very rarely there’s even snow flurries in the higher foothills in winter).
The park features many attractions to include along with the destinations, time permitting. The park merry-go-round has been a stand alone ride in the middle of the lower park for many years. Many who park up there also go for the short hike around the former zoo. Pony rides are found at the south end of the park, just off the 5 Freeway and Los Feliz Blvd.
There’s also mini train rides here, in addition to Travel Town, a train museum, on the north side of the park.
The LA Zoo is well worth a visit, with lots of free parking. The lot is shared by visitors to the Autry Museum of the West, located just across the street. With enough time to spend, the Autry Museum is also a nice addition to see!
Back along Los Feliz Blvd. to Vermont St. north are more picnic areas, hiking trailheads, the Greek Theater and the famed Griffith Observatory which has been temporally closed, tho views of LA from the parking lot are awesome! There’s even a Hollywood Sign view on clear days, from the restrooms looking back to the west. The lot provides access to the Mount Hollywood Trail. Another access further west along Los Feliz Blvd., is to go up Fern Dell Drive, along which has more tree shaded picnic areas, trailheads and traversing access (the long way) to the ‘Observatory.
As seen on the map, trails may appear to connect with the location of the iconic Hollywood Sign. While tempting for experienced hikers to reach for the letters, the ‘Sign is fenced off to prevent vandalism.
Reid Miller
Great views of Los Angeles, Great hike for kids and adults!
Naofumi Kobayashi
Nice for family. Especially for child education. There are a kot if parking lot on the top.
Kevin Webb
What can you say. Even the drive up to the observatory is nice. History, views, great planetarium. Usually crowded, the only negative for me but what are you going to do. Spectacular place.
José Flores
Good place to enjoy with family! Your kids can ride a pony or check another animals like coats and sheep or you can get on the train. These days after 5pm you will see Christmas decorations

This place was pretty busy for a Tuesday evening, the observatory was closed and they charge to park at the top. You can park for free halfway up and hike the rest of the way. Beautiful view of the City of Angels.
Beth Franklin
This is an amazing place to not only get a beautiful view of LA, but also to learn new things.
Khajan Pandey
Best time to go is early morning. There is public (free) and paid parking .
Shane Howard
This is a great place to view the Hollywood sign. You also get a great view of the city from high above. On a side note, just to give you a warning, you do have to pay for parking.
RO YAO LEE
Not easy to get there and parking fee so high only accept credit cards. Now America just become like China, no cash only government controlled money only.
Anyway the view is good, still worthy to pay a visit.
Samantha Ogle
Amazing view of the city and the Hollywood sign! This is a must see!!
Jason Wise
Best place for quick access to nature in LA. Free, wild, and open interior. Grassy lawns, picnicking, playgrounds (and the Greek, zoo, Autry, observatory) around the more manicured edges. The best place for hiking in the city. I’ve been going for 20 years and still haven’t been on every trail. Do yourself a favor and escape city life once in a while to explore this gem.
Dusan Jovanovic
Historical place that you have to visit, however parking is a nightmare. They do ask for vaccination proof and ID still.
Rosa Morales
One of the best places that is a must-see
Stacy Leigh Hutchens
The observatory is a nice spot to view the Hollywood sign and a (smoggy) view of LA, and a few trails start here. Parking is free before the observatory opens at noon. Free public bathrooms in the parking lot.
Che S
This place is Hella dope!!!! So cool! The views are night can't be beat
Amy Marconnet
Mostly I've been to the observatory and viewpoint for the Hollywood sign. Wonderful views of the city. Sometimes you can see to the ocean. Parking at the top is $10/hr (visa, Mastercard, discover, but not American express!)
Spencer Campbell
What an amazing view. We attended just before sunset and where able to see the entire county during sunset. In order to go into the observatory, the you will need to have updated covid vaccination information and proof if ID. This historic park is the scene in a couple of movies Rebel Without A Cause, but and LA LA LAND. You can find more information about that on their website. Parking is not so great. Its paid parking single lane all the way up the road. Plan on waking for 20 to 30 minutes. You can take an Uber or Lyft as well. There are paid bus shuttles that will take you the top as well. We have a large vehicle and they let us into to the parking up top for free. There are a few art installations, including eagles wings, the James Dean bust, and Galileo sundial. We suggest bringing a jacket or hoodie as temperatures drop after the sun goes down.
Donovan Mueller
Really nice area to hang out at on a nice day. There are fruit vendors and dogs. Other than being on a busy street it is a peaceful area. Great place to picnic or read a book. Parking along side streets is free which is nice.
Tony Edwards
Great to go to the shop to get a great view of the city from behind the observatory. Be worn though. Now you have to pay and it isn't cheap if you want to park by the observatory
Freddy Loks
Just love the scenery there so peaceful and beautiful 😍 💕 enjoy the day with my grandkids …
Angel D Rodriguez
Good place for hiking and great views of the city and the Hollywood sign. It's a popular tourist spot.
王 Wang令僑 Lin Chiao
Perhaps due to the lack of reservations, many parts of the tour have been suspended, which is a pity. Compared with three years ago, the standard is much lower. But this new scenic spot in the picture which is very good.
Terry Nigro
Beautiful building. The girl that gave the two tours was great! Loved her vibe!!! And the views were amazing!!!! It's definitely worth the $10/hour parking.
Julia Gutierrez
Great hiking spot with a variety of trails and amazing views! You can pick hikes of varying lengths or just hang out at the park. Be warned that the trails are a little dusty so don’t make plans after or wear your favorite hiking shoes. It’s a great place to head to if you want to get out of the house!
Hema Gollamudi
Lovely views from the top. Very crowded today. The parking was way below and walk up took way too long leaving us too less time at the observatory. No intimation of this too.
Tingwei Meng
Pretty good. Remember to be there earlier! We arrived too late and didn’t find a parking lot down the hill. It took really really long to park on the top. Then we missed the time for using the telescope. Although the whole place closes at 10pm, the telescope is closed at 9:30pm. I will come again and earlier. (But it was still very good to talk with friends about La La land when we were stuck on the road :) Next time I will come and hike!
Sluggo O'Toole
Still under a mask mandate and required to show proof of vaccinations to enter tge Observatory. Great views from the Observatory. Parking at first seems intimidating, but turned out to be plentiful, but pricey. Worth tge trip.
Nadia Ramirez
Many different routes, several parking lots and a great place to enjoy nature
Bruno
The observatory is an amazing place as a view point to look over downtown LA!
Fawn Cameranesi
What's a clear day with a beautiful view after raining for days
There were a lot of foreign visitors on weekend we went.
Great views from all around as you drive the circumference of the observatory
Anannya Nath
Great place. You can see the Hollywood sign and hike upto that from here. Plenty of parking spaces. The parking is free till 12 noon, after that it charges $10 per hour.
Robert W. Otero
It was GREAT! The staff, especially the man by the entrance with the telescope viewing Jupiter & 6 of it's satellites.
Also, in the main telescope, sorry I forgot his name, the young man taught us about Sidereal time, and the telescope's auto tracking to adjust for the earth's movement.
Morgan Harman
Always better after being in Griffith Park!
Open until 10:00 p.m. you can always view the sunset from the southern slope of Mount Hollywood. This photo is taken from the griffith observatories west terrace.
Jack Dogood
It’s a great hiking location there are a lot of different path if you’re in the LA area you should definitely attempt you get incredible view of Los Angeles in Burbank and surrounding areas on a clear day see the ocean
Gothic Crow
It is too big to review as a single item. There are 3 museums, zoo, countless picknick, playgrounds, maintained and natural hiking trails, amenities for all different types of things. It's land.
Khalid Noufal
It was fun, great view of the Hollywood sign, LA and the mountains.
Efren Beltran
This is a must when you visit Los Angeles you cannot missed Griffith observatory!
Todd Makeever
I grabbed an order of fresh sliced fruit and took it up to the observatory. Enjoyed it with a breathtaking view and interesting people watching. Perfect spot to unwind.
Michael Mella
Unfortunately we were there on a rainy day and we could not even see the observatory from the parking lot, let alone the city. Even then it was very crowded and parking was very expensive and extremely limited. On a clear day it would be a nice hike from the lower free lots.
Carlos Gil
Historic spot in LA. A must for anyone who is visiting tourist attractions in LA, and lover of astronomy.
Kauan Barreto da Silva
Best place in LA to see the classic HOLLYWOOD sign. The park and the observatory are nice and well maintained and well worth the visit. The problem is getting there. The parking lot is small and, when we were arriving, employees told us that there were no more spaces and that we would have to park along the access road. The parking meter only accepts a card and then the problem begins. Italians who were in front of us didn't have (I don't know why) the cards accepted .... I ended up paying them a penalty. The climb is relatively steep and along the climb there were still a very reasonable number of parking spaces - that is - we could have left the car much closer. Access to some sectors of the observatory is paid and it didn't seem worth it because it wasn't very cheap. But the ride is worth it ..
Preston Ferguson
$10 an hour to park, observatory is free
Robert Bojorquez
Beautiful night to see Death Cab for Cutie. Great atmosphere and enjoyed the concert very much. Parking is always crazy here. But great venue otherwisw.
Jarrell Johnson
First time going. Great views, and very proud informative
Anastasia
A lot of things to explore for any age. They still require face masks inside Aug 22, but don’t panic if you don’t have one - they give them away for free when you enter inside.
andy valente
Another enjoyable uphill hike and they sold some super delicious fruit ice creams at the top. Kids loved the interactive nature of the place inside, also good spot to see eagles
Aaron Taylor
Very fun free place to visit. The planetarium show for $10 is well worth it. No parking so we had to park down the hill and Uber up.
stuart langridge
I enjoy walking around here, so many different trails to try and plenty of room, even though there's usually plenty of people in the park, it's a big area to explore
SITTI ZALEHA
Free Admission. Educational and interesting exhibits. We watched a clip about Griffith Observatory really good info about it. There is a cafe and a small gift shop. There are fixed telescopes for
You to watch the surrouding area.
There are restrooms near the carpark.
We spent about two hours in the building. So paid parking is $10 per hour and it starts from 12pm.
The HOLLYWOOD sign can be seen from here too.
Best to drive nearer the sign to get a better foto.
It is worth a visit. Wheelchair accessible too.
No food and drinks allowed.
No pets allowed in the building.
Freestyle Flava
Great park for outdoor activities, sports and many more also a safe place for everyone close to the LA zoo and hiking and easy to locate on your GPS. Highly recommend it.
Wes Hildebrandt
Griffith Park is huge, and there's a lot to see and do just at the Observatory. You can easily spend five hours there seeing the shows, looking at exhibits, and seeing the great views of the mountains, downtown LA, the surrounding towns, and even the ocean on a clear day.
Ahmad A
Parking is a bit complicated unless you ride a motorcycle 🏍 but for the view, it's so worth it.. …
Michelle Moore
So many things to do! My grandson played at the park playground and had a blast! We also went to the train exhibit, which the parents enjoyed and he loved as well.
SIVA EXPERT GUIDE
We landed at Burbank and this was the first place we came based on reviews. So glad we listened! It was a lovely afternoon 26/12/19 with lots of people parking and walking to see the Hollywood sign. Great views of it from the Griffith Observatory (which was closed that day). Griffith Park is amazing and so large-I’m sure we only saw a small part of it yet we parked, walked quite a ways and all the way up to the observatory. If I lived here this would be a favorite spot for me. So many little paths and hikes to explore. We loved it! I hope this review and photo really helps you thank you do like if you like it .
Jen Bacquet
One of my favorite places in LA. You can’t beat it! Combination of architecture, trails, space and good weather is hard to beat. When things open again, the observatory inside is also really nice and has interesting things to look at. But my true favorite is the openness from the outside.
Dan Q.
Great place to sight see and get a great view of LA city and the surrounding cities in the area and the Hollywood sign. Also great museum inside with cool facts about space.
IG hotlunchideas
Amazing experience! We were lucky we got there when the big telescope was open to public! So we got to see Jupiter and its moons.
David Litt
Epic 360° view of Los Angeles. You can the Skyline and mich further, the ocean and in the other direction Hollywood Hills with the HW Sign. Only on a clear day of course. Parking is expensive, but worth it. Be sure that there is no special event so you do not have delays or unexpected forbidden areas.
Celeste Dickel (vinylbunny)
Griffith Park has a lot to offer. From the merry go round, travel town, playground, tennis courts, golfing, la zoo, Gene Autry western heritage museum, pony rides, to hiking the old zoo. Get place to take the family and/or dog to get outside and explore.
Anandan Rajendran
Great place to visit with kids. We saw the stone which was from moon
Jacqueline Marquez
Most beautiful scenery of the city!
Jose Cedillo
Awesome views! Easy parking and exit, restrooms easy to see and big area to hangout and take great pictures.
Carina Garcia
If u love nature best place to come to historical and pleasant to hike many trails to choose from. Awesome views

Amazing views, and a beautiful display. Lots of information. Parking is interesting, there is an actual lot at the top in front of the observatory, but it gets full quick. You can park down the winding hill leading up to it. $10 an hour.... Then make the trek all the way up to the observatory. Be prepared to walk! There is a cafe on the lower level.
Rachel
I'm so happy I was able to go see the Griffith Observatory while visiting L.A. The views of the Hollywood Sign and L.A. are amazing. I went on a Tuesday evening and couldn't believe how busy it was. There's a parking lot but we had to park on the road. Be prepared, you might have to walk a bit. I promise it's worth it!
Joseph M
Can't beat free admission especially that you get to see and do a lot in here. They have started charging for parking now though. It's been years since I last went. Finding parking is a bit challenging. So beware of that when you decide to go. Depends on the time you go, you might hit traffic on the way up
Mark O'Donnell
Very informative. Free entry and wonderful sunsets!!

The Observatory is a must to visit the place. It's location is such that you find difficulty in parking your car which was 10$per hour on the hill but free parking down below. From there, you either walk on foot or ride a bus which was a better option. The Observatory is well maintained, the theatre showing the 30 mt documentary, is out of this world. But we had a bitter experience while coming back, the bus dropped us at a wrong place from where we had to walk appx.1 mile in bitter cold night and isolated roads which was scary too to reach our parking. Will never forget that walk.

Great trails. Lots of green. A few flowers.
Sami Farhat
Great hike and views of LA. Take water with you and hike up to the top. Check working hours if you're visiting the observatory.
Yvette Alarcon
My favorite hiking spot in all of L.A. There's a multitude of hiking trails, lots of Parking, and a breath-taking view of Los Angeles. Hiking to the Observatory is amazing and you get to see the Hollywood sign up close!
Dr Zuleyha Keskin
Nice place but a bit overrated. If it's your kind of thing, you'll like it.
Justin Hayworth
Lovey city park. Crowded usually because of its views / the Hollywood sign. But lots of trails and open area to explore. Especially lovely at sunset!
Robert Dorris
This is an awesome place to visit and see the skyline. It has a great view of the Hollywood sign and some nice hiking trails. It's a must see attraction and the admission price is hard to pass up. The founder wanted it to remain free for visitors and it still is to this day. It's full of knowledge and everyone will learn something during the visit.
Steve Farber
Worth the trip. You have to pay to park and hike up the winding mountain road. We took A Day In LA tour (highly recommend) and got dropped off and picked up very close. Beautiful views. You can see LA and the Hollywood sign. I'm told it's best to visit at night.
Ignatius Sudol
I was most fortunate because when I went to get compost there were two young women there who were gracious enough to help me load my own compost and put it into my car at 79 this was most appreciated great place though for getting free compost
Grant Ballard-Tremeer
Fantastic visit to Griffith Park and I highly recommend it. Clean and clearly well managed with a great range of interesting things to see and do.
Anna M
The walk up is actually really fun, it's part of the experience. Considering parking is only like $8 and admission (except to the planetarium show) is free, it's a good deal. You can walk all around the observatory, so you won't get bored standing in one place.
Careful walking on the road up though - there are no lights and no sidewalk for part of it.
jake
It was great. But my uber driver bounced on us!!
HOLLY W
Got my pictures of the Hollywood sign 😍😎 Lots of hiking trails. Great place up by Observatory to take amazing photos …
