Reviews of Ernest E. Debs Regional Park
Jennifer Miller
Beautiful park with trails. If you go up the trail that goes up the big hill you will find a beautiful lake with turtles. The air is fresh, views are fantastic, and parking is free.
KIMBERLY
I love the park and the walks here, serve as a workout. You can also bring food and have a picnic. You can see the LA buildings from the top of the mountain.
There is fish and turtlea in the lake. I have posted pics here for you guys to see.
David Holland
I was hiking in East L.A.!! And I really enjoyed it!! Don’t let location snobs exclude you from enjoying a great hike with nice views of SGV DTLA and toward south LA!! 600’ of incline makes for a moderate challenge and gets me back into hiking and helps me sweat out the toxins!! 😅 😅 nice views, nice pond, nice people!! …
Haley Castello
A hidden gem 💎 they have the space for class and community learning. Our school came to do some bird watching and learn about the science and practice. They enjoyed it plenty! Thank you kindly staff for being so welcoming and for taking care of this wonderful place 💕 …

A sizable hillside park in Northwest LA with great views and multiple trails for a good hike or trail run. The hills are steeper than I expected but yeah the views at the top is definitely worth it.
There are multiple trailheads and access points to the park so you can enter the park from both Arroyo Seco and Huntington Dr. The best views and trails are in the north half of the park, which is steeper too. In the south half, there is a big picnic and recreational area with public restrooms onsite, by the parking lot in the middle of the park.

My kids and I love to hike. I saw this place on a tik tok, and I thought it was a cool place for the kids to experience. There's a park and hiking trails all around. We hiked up to the lake where we saw a bunch of turtles and then hiked down to a swing. My kids and I enjoyed our day, and we will often be visiting.
Abe Achkinazi
LA’s backyard. Nice neighborhood park with clean trails not too hard hills and killer views of Los Angeles skyline. If you go in the Spring tons of green, yellow wild black mustard. Not a lot of shade so bring water and sunblock.
Luis G Sanchez
Easy to reserve covered picnic area with only $75 deposit. Clean restrooms. Lot of parking. Flat area convenient for wheel care and senior citizens
khemarakseima Renee
It's like a surprise treasure which appears before your eyes when you get to the top of the hill. A small lake called Debs Lake that surrounded with tall trees and full with clear water and lots of turtle. It's a perfect spot for a picnic or relaxing. I definitely recommend this place if you want to get away from crowded and busy lifestyle but just don't want to drive too far
Vladimir Ballesteros-Moreno
Excellent neighborhood park with great DTLA views and a beautiful pond on the top of the hill.
Chris A
a little heaven in the city. it's not far from most of LA. lots og trails for different energy levels. cool view of down town and there's a little pond at the top. alot of traffic of in that area but lots of benches to chill on
Stefany Hernandez
Nice park with great views, free parking and trails. I do suggest walking or jogging with someone or only 1 earbud because it was lonely & saw a couple different weird people. Easy to lure & hide someone.
Emily
A pleasant experience - even for solo hikers like myself!
Came here on a Tuesday and arrived at 11:37 am.
Set directions to "Ernest E. Debs Regional Park, 4235 Monterey Rd, Los Angeles, CA 90032" via Google maps which took me directly to the (FREE) open-gated entrance of the park. This led me up to a large parking lot area that has PLENTY of parking spots. Warning: LOTS of speed bumps upon entry--be prepared!
I live in West LA so by the time I arrived (a bit TMI but) I had to PEE! To be honest, I absolutely dread using public park bathrooms (unfortunately I am one of those people) but when your bladder is going to burst... you just gotta go. I am happy to report that the women's bathroom as of 8/24/21 - 2 stalls with toilet paper and 1 sink was pleasantly CLEAN! So if you're a bathroom shy person like me, don't worry about the restrooms here-- use it if you must! Hopefully it stays that way and we all do our part in keeping it clean (:
LOTS of picnic table seating area in the parking area for families, meeting up with friends, resting and relaxing. I even saw some BBQ areas too! I would say at least 10+ people were here when I arrived!
The Hike
Having this be my first time here, I decided to start my hike at the large "Ernest E. Debs Regional Park" sign. Right by this sign is a cement paved path that literally goes uphill. I would say in 0.4 miles it leads you to a pond area to your left. The pond had turtles in them, a few benches to sit on, and some people were fishing!
I wasn't sure where to go from the pond so I went back onto the cement trail that later branched into several paved dirt trails. I followed a couple in front of me in turning left which led me to the beautiful views of DTLA. From the parking lot to this DTLA view, it was ~0.6 miles according to my Apple Watch. Feeling as if this hike was far too short, I decided to continue exploring and chose a random dirt trail to continue walking. I ended up walking around in a loop and got ~2.5 miles in!
The reason I subtracted a star and ranked 4/5 is because unfortunately this park does not have any signs to direct you. The views are nice but I wish there was just some guidance. If it wasn't for my Apple Watch, I would have had no idea how many steps I took nor how far I walked. Regarding the Visitor Center--I have no idea where that was and did not happen to see it at all.
Overall, nice views! Love the spacious parking, the large picnic table seating area by the parking lot, and the availability of public restrooms. There was just not really any shade on the trail nor any signage or guidance on where to hike. I wouldn't mind returning, though! If you are in the area, I do recommend checking it out! I can only imagine the sunrise and sunset views being gorgeous!!
Jl chuang
Near DTLA. Easy hikes with a small pretty lake. Highly recommended eating in highland park after hikes.
Jerry Heilig
Beautiful park with trails. If you go up the trail that goes up the big hill you will find a beautiful lake with turtles. this is a beautiful place . This a multipurpose park. You can walk, run, take the dog, and even have a picnic. Beware, a lot of people aren't using masks and often travel in large groups. There is also quite a bit of poop on the trail that is being left by irresponsible dog owners. The inclines on the trails range easy to steep! No matter you're level, you can easily test yourself here. If you're in the area, stop on by. The location offers quite a view of downtown. I recommend either sunset or sunrise.s.
Miguel June
Cool park with great views and great trails to get a workout in. The lake with the turtles on the top is one of the pay offs. Plenty of parking, plenty of entrances. Google maps has all the trails marked to help you navigate.
As of 5/2021 there was a swing. Try finding it and Enjoy
Corey Hedden
This park is an amazing little utopia in the middle of an urban wasteland. Just kidding - the area around it is great, but this hike/park feels like another world. It has a steep beginning, but it's worth it. There's a small lake with trees too. I recommend visit right before sunset!
Sam Chan
Park area is not so great. The grass has too many holes and the pavements are so bumpy that the kids can't Rollerblade or scooter on it. Love the pond, the downtown city view and the swing
Jose Loor
Great for walking, nice views of the city and also make sure you go and see the pond on top of the mountain, and there is a swing in this park but I didn't find it good luck to you
jeffrey okon
Great for a family outing. Easy trips up the hill. Easy trails, you can walk and even roll up a stroller to show how comfortable it is.
The park is nice for a cool family outing. Scooters in the park not up the hill.
Melystikal
Came to this spot because a vlogger on youtube recommended it. They didn't mention the mile up nothing but incline hike up the mountain to the lake. Guess the jokes on me. Lol But got to say its well worth seeing the views of LA and the beautiful turtle lake.
M Hernandez
Favorite mild hike park. Not too intense of an incline but the brush that is up right now in the summer is so high so paths are just uncomfortable to walk through if you aren’t wearing pants. Still a nice full view of the east of the City and DTLA. A very tranquil spot.
Darryl Ford
A nice park with a number of hiking trails, a large picnic area (with some pergolas that can be reserved for parties), and a small lake/duck pond. The picnic areas are nice but have definitely seen better days and could use a solid refurbishment. The restroom buildings are terrible, but about par for the course for a city park. There are often a lot of off leash dogs in the park (including in the picnic area!) so be aware if you are hiking here or if you have small children. A few scattered homeless encampments (or remnants thereof) dot the park but overall it's not too bad.
Ryan Sherman
Awesome. Expansive place that was easy to socially distance, great views of the city, beautiful lake. Was a bit crowded at the lake, but it was a holiday weekend.
Russell Smith
Beautiful park full of life. Saw osprey, hawks, California scrub jays and a host of other birds . The views of downtown to the mountains were spectacular.
Jessy Vasquez
The hike is pretty basic and i would recommend for a beginner. Its a decent size and doesnt have extreme inclination but enough to get a tinggling. Plus it has great view of DTLA. I would also consider this a good location for kids as well. Also its a chill place to come and have a picnic(just remember to take your trash with you).
Richard Nichols
Beautiful hiking areas with 360 view of the entire San Gabriel valley, mt Wilson, Mt baldy, downtown & lots more ! A shady pond is home to dozens of turtles , plus BBQ and picnic areas with ample parking. A hidden LA gem !
Your Pursenality
Montecito Heights is one of the first places of where my hiking began. The trail is about 3-4 miles, this is a great trail for beginners. I personally love that I am able to oversee the surroundings, view of L.A., Glendale , Altadena, Pasadena and did I mention how beautiful and relaxing this place is! Love it!
Edward
Hidden gem with a good hiking trail. If you like elevation changes and a small park to hike on that is not crowded (like Runyon Canyon), this is your place to go. Lots of paths to go to and you can trail run too!
Claudia Diaz
Not a crowded area to hike. View points everywhere and a little pond at the top. Kid friendly hike.
Karl Baker
Great trails and lots of different entry points around the park
Lynne Tran- The Tran Team
Easy hike with a serene pond filled with turtles and fish at the top and a gorgeous view of DTLA, San Gabriel Valley and beyond…
Moe Shakir
Great hikes. Great views of downtown LA. Clean park. Turtle pond on top as a bonus!
Brooke Powell
Beautiful views. It’s a nice hike without being too long or strenuous. My dog loves it here. Apparently there have been a lot of violent crimes here so watch out for that.
Michael McMenamin
Great place for hikes, dog walks and views. Many trails but not many people. Most trails don't have much shade. Watch out for all the dog poop. The Audubon Society building on site is a major plus!
Eldelos Tacos
Always a nice place to take a walk. Someday busier then others but always a good walk. Lots of trails throughout the park. Pond is semi clean and nice to hang out by.
Jesse Sanchez
I go here often for a hike with my bf and dog. My dog loves it! I know evey dog will . The Hike is not the hardest but can get your heart rate going. Once you get to the top find a bench by the pond and it is very relaxing. You might see a lot of turtles and fishes it is a wonderful place to relax. If you continue hiking up the trail you can get an awesome view of DTLA.
Xochitl Quintanilla
Beautiful lil hike, very peaceful, great spot to come and have a painting session, or just to collect your thoughts if you want 🌞 …
Aaron Holloway-Nahum
Awesome park for a hike. Aim for the little lake for great views of the city. Wear sunscreen and bring water!!
John Puppo
Really lovely vibes here. Quiet in the mornings, especially during the week. Some good shaded facilities, plus a some good hiking zones.
Scattered shade, a little too hot for my dog after about 9.
Less busy than elysian, but equally nice
Jaqueline cruz
It was a nice hike.
We loved the pond where there were lots of turtles. It was a nice view.
Devendra Deore
Amazing hiking place. Sunset views are the best...feels fresh, peaceful and calm😍😍😍 …
Candis Contreras
This place is perfect to walk your dogs, you don't have to worry about them running off to the streets. You might want to keep your dog on a leash depending how their behavior is because their is other ppl walking their dogs. The place is so big if you look good enough you can find a nice private area to relax and have a little picnic.
Rebecca Cho
One of my favorite places to go hiking in LA! There is parking as you go past the park gates. Before the trails, there is a huge BBQ grassy area which is nice for picnics and gatherings. When you go up the trail, it leads you to a nice little lake. It was such a hidden gem. You can take many different trails where you can see beautiful city views. I hiked over 4 miles the first time I came here! There is also wildlife here and animals like coyotes, so just be on the look out. I'm definitely coming back here again without a doubt!
Roki Torres
Great place for an incline walk/workout for you and/or your fur babies. My dog loves coming here, especially the lake. There are both paved and dirt trails and an amazing view of downtown at the peak with a nice little bench to sit and enjoy a sunset. No bathrooms though, come prepared.
Carlo N.
EDRP is a great park with a great view of DTLA, SGValley, and the Northeast LA. Moreover, there is a beautiful pond surrounded by trees located at the middle of the park. Hiking trails are simple to navigate, are well kept and it's not too steep (easy to intermediate elevation). Plenty of parking space. Dogs are allowed. Overall, its a great park for hiking and walking. I guarantee you'll love the views.
Quetzalbrava 502
Great place for a mini hike , enough shade to enjoy a nice read or picnic next to the pond . Love that it's a Dog friendly park.
Peter Fabian
Good for short hike even with kids. Sometimes "crowded" but views are great. I suggest to spend few extra minutes to walk more to see small lake and nice view of downtown.
M
One of my favorite hikes! Great views of DTLA and the city plus a cute little lake with shady trees that people like to picnic around. Relaxing hike!
BigCheeks
Nice chill place for birthday party or just BBQ with friends and family. Plenty of parking and restrooms close by. Only bad part their is no playground.
Shelly Bian
Partly shady, wide trail, nice pond with lots of turtles at the end. Easy hike, toddler was able to do a good part of it. Family friendly and not too crowded
Melanie Ramirez
Great uphill trail definitely like this one. Definitely coming back to hike
AnaM Flores
This is totally (for me) an amazing place to have a date, picnic or a great hiking 😎😏🤗🤙🏼💖 …
Jonny Rodgers
The park is small but beautiful in the spring after the rains. The pond at the top is lovely and is a great place to walk your dogs and get in shape.
Elva Ace
First time ever being there. Amazing hike and view on our way upto the pond.
Dbl. R.
Really nice park, been going to this park for over 40 years, but with in the past few years people have been taking thier dogs for walks but dont clean up after their dogs, please clean up after your dogs. Don't ruin the park for other visitors, Do your part.
Miss kubo
Dog friendly, in designated areas (see rendered map from the park website) and then the other map was from my app and this trail took about 2 hours. A little bit of a climb and dusty.
Marie Bienkowski
Lovely views, wonderful and varied scenery, nice pond at the top. Amenities could be better cared for.
Carty Wilson
We were there attending an afternoon concert. Seating was reasonable, sound volume loud but quality poor. Not enough microphones for the band. Still we had a great time and will return.
brandon deps
One of the Gems Of Los Angeles! Must go for all outdoor people, legit hike, real pond and real animals all wild 😜 …
John Chavez
This place is beautiful the only thing is a kid lost his life here trying to take pictures some dope fiend shot and killed him porters camera
Alvin Luu
Great place, but the speed bumps going there. So many speed bumps if you're driving up.
Mark Andrade
Great place if you love incline in your cardio/endurance training as it's not too far. The trails are well kept and it doesn't get too packed from what I've seen.
Aaron Talamantes
Its a good place to hike at I've been going with my wife every other day or so for a couple of months. If you take a dog have it on a leash, you see park rangers every now and then checking. There is also coyotes, so avoid having your dog pick a fight like that. If you hike in the evening make sure to take a flash light it gets pretty dark afterwards, there is a nice pond at the top, if you start your hike on Griffin Ave it will take a bit longer to get to the pond. And there is quite a good view, maybe not the best but it sure is worth the hike, in my opinion.
Leonard Flores
Great place to take the kids & family. Friendly people hiking the trail. Sign outside that says no dogs allowed but everyone takes there dog's in. There's even signs inside that say to only keep dogs in designated areas. Once to the top, the view is great.
Guillermina Carrillo
Excellent hiking trails. We have the opportunity to watch wild animals.
Ryan Welch
What a glorious treat adjacent to the Arroyo Saco. A great destination for bird watching and flora hunting. I saw poison oak, black walnut trees, woodpeckers, ravens, and more. We took the easy butterfly loop for a quick jaunt. You can go further into the park amongst other loops. The Audubon Center was perfect, too. Free binoculars, guidebooks, and more to rent. They even had a California King snake on the front desk! Perfect spot for a weekend afternoon
Michael Holden
The perfect place for an unscheduled total rebuild of my auxiliary power system and dc distribution nightmare. Will repair again.
Orlando Ortiz
Great place to hike. Wonderful pond on top of the hill with all sorts of animals
WOLFY DE LA O
Great for hiking, bbqing, and walking your dog(s).
Keiry S
Great place for a walk and a picnic 😀 …
Anastasia Min
Unfogatable panorama view. The best view. The best hike. Dog friendly
Norberto Santillan
It's ok have a good hiils but you has to do the all the trails because is to short
Jay
Please, please, and please, put your dogs on a leash. This is not a dog park!!!! I saw 4 dog owners today with their dogs unleased. :(((
Ernesto Hernandez
Great park with lots of trees for shade and benches under those trees. Took my family here, ate some pizza and had a great time. Oh and there is a small pond atop of one of the trails.
Emilia Cotto
Nice park a lot trail to explore. Very recommend for a family day hike.
Michelle Estrada
Quick little get away, easy and free parking, great views.
James Jordan
Great vies of the city as you make your way up. When you get to the top there are trails and sitting areas. You can see Mt Wilson and if you turn around the pacific ocean. At the top there is a added surprise of a little man made lake.
C. E.
Beautiful park with a pond and secret swing on top of the hill
J Garcia
Great place for a nice hike ..we take our dogs there and they love it and so do we . #NELA
Jefferson
Great hike! Perfect for a nice little cute date :)
Big Pstar
I used to leave the house late at night with my little cuzin to go up to the lake.the best part of the whole park.
Wendolyn
It’s a local LA park with plenty of parking space. There’s benches and space for a weekend get-together with family or friend. The trails are decent. Lots of dead and burnt trees from the fires. Come here if you wanna feel like you’re still in LA and walk around it from above. NOT necessarily a place to disconnect from city life and be with nature sounds.
Karina Cabral
If you are looking for a challenging trail with a lake and awesome view of down town LA...this is the perfect trail.
Russell Smith (JimmyJ)
This Park is amazing for those who love to hike like I do. You can start in Highland Park or from you almost in Alhambra. Either way the hike is amazing. At the very top of the hike, either way you go, there is a little pond that is like a Japanese garden. It is very beautiful and peaceful. This hike also let's you decide how difficult you want to make it, as there are various paths to take. This Park is worth exploring. Now there are a lot of homeless people there so be cautious, say something encouraging if you are going to say anything at all. The only way the homeless problem will be solved is if we face it. (my opinion).
Erika Cuellar
I love this place. Its simple. A good way to start building stamina. Dog friendly and my dog, Zeus, loves it!
Shayla Brown
Beatiful hike with views for days when it's clear. Not too crowded on a Sunday around 9am. Parking was relatively easy to find as well. Be prepared to walk uphill and uphill and a little more uphill. Regular tennis shoes are fine, but bring water, maybe a snack or two, and plan to take a couple rest stops if you're not in good shape. The lake at the top is worth the effort. You can easily extend the hike by joining another trail, but it's only about 1.75 miles to the lake. I recommend it! 👍🏾
Monique Marie Saucedo (eMpReSs1)
So love this place. Grew up playing and running around Debes Park aka Montecito Park. We'd cross our street cut threw back and enjoy the amazing view, nature, pond, gazebo & trails. It sure is as beautiful as it was 45 years ago.
Crystal Perez
It is a great walk/hike the only thing is not every one keeps their dog on the leash🤷🏻♀️ …
Jessica Chiang
My fiance and I were at a nearby carwash, saw this place on the map, and decided to see what it was like. We were glad we did! After parking in the one of the ample number of available parking spaces, we headed up one of the nearby trails. It took us to this shaded pond area with beautiful overlooks all around. There were a good number of people here, so we decided to go further down the trail. We came across a covered pavilion area with no one in it and sat here for about an hour, enjoying the silence of nature until another group came nearby. The hike back down gave us a great view of downtown LA, even with the hazy, smokey air.
The trails are pretty steep here and there aren't many shaded areas, so definitely bring a good pair of shoes and some water. There is a good amount of the trail that is paved which provides easier walking. Some of the other trails that branch off the main one, though, aren't paved and area a bit dusty.
Note that we didn't go to the park area itself due to the large number of big groups gathered there and not practicing social distancing nor wearing masks, so this review is only for the hiking trails themselves.
Eric Olinsky
Very nice park with lots of trails
jess
Love this park ,took my maternity pictures and they come out AMAZING
Dolly Figueroa
Beautiful! The spring showers have brought flowers!
House Owl
Great for hill hiking and parties . nice views everywhere
Varsha Neelakantan
A nice quiet park for hiking, sunset watching or just relaxing.
breddairie
This is a great part that sits on top of the hill. It has a large open grass field where you can picnic, barbecue and host birthday parties. This park is more of a nature park because it doesn't have a lot of playground activities for children. There is a hike going up towards the pond and that's where you'll get the best views of the city. It is a hike and the trail has a good incline. So remember to stay comfortable, hydrated and take your time if needed.
Jonica Bradley
Wonderful park. Nice trails. Big trees.
Monique Jimenez
Nice little hike. Well, initial climb is a little steep but not too bad. Once you get to the top there is a cute pond to hang put around. Lots of other little spots to explore
Dillon Minasian
Great views. Large parking lot. Very well taken care of.
Pete Shek
Great park and picnic area in the Montecito Heights area. I didn't know about this park until a party I went to today. There is hiking trail(s) which I would love to see next time.
Tip: beware of ALL speed bumps. you have to drive less than 5mph or else you will regret it.
Estrella Lucero
Good place to hike with your family and it has a great view
Yolanda Luque
Beautiful park, lots of hiking trails, good views of the city from the trails, small pond at the top of one trail.
Christopher Ross
Love mtn biking and running here. Lots of hills, great workout
K R
It's so peaceful and nice I love this trail. The little pound with the turtles makes it ten times better ❤️
Simona Escobar
Love our hikes here. The views of downtown are great as is the pond at the top as a final hiking destination. Great for family time. The center is beautiful, educational and SO kid friendly! You can borrow a backpack and fun supplies such as nature Bingo, binoculars , paints and more for free!
FYI..Just make sure not to have your car in the parking lot after 5 or you will be locked in!
Carlos Perez
Great place for a walk. There are different trails where either they lead you back to the park or towards a street. There is also a lake in the middle where you can find people fishing and turtles swimming! To top it off, the park space in the beginning is great for family time and wildlife there is awesome!
Freddy Ortiz
I love this place....my kids love it and it's not overwhelming with people. Good place to get lost from the world and enjoy the good atmosphere.
Carlos Baltazar
It was great but we had a party and we left one day early to go save spot and a lady said i reserved this table and we got there before but there was no sign that it was reserved and than we switched places to another spot so if your going to have a party reserve your table because we got there a day before and we had to move so the birthday was coming out bad but than it was really good
Jason Wong
Nice to be able to hike in the middle of the city.
Teresa Duarte
Easy hike up to the pond. Dog and kid friendly
Sholo D' Losangeles
Swings at debs and a nice walk at the creek
Mr. J
Great place for a hike with a great view. Perfect location for entertaining guests and family. Take a hike up to the top and you'll find a little slice of heaven. A pond atop a mountain. This pond has fish & turtles. People catch & release their fish. People are nice, you can bring you dog(s) up here too. They're going to like it as much as you are. Happy hiking!
lizbeth P-E
Beautiful hike and lake with a good amount of turtles!! No playground on the picnic area but a good amount of restrooms and sitting area.
YK Kim
So close to downtown L.A., but it is a huge piece of almost-wildeness containing lots of hiking trails of varying difficulty. The turtles in the pond on top of the northwestern side of the park swim peacefully to greet you.
Omar Lopez
The best place DLA
Trés Fulmore
Very positive environment. Beautiful mountains.
Eric Munsen
Was super hot and the shade around the pond at the top was a welcome relief. Great side trails to explore, bring water and sunscreen as shade is minimal. Amazing views too
RJ R
Good place for a hike and fishing
UDAY VALENCIA
Local people are very friendly!
Rusty
Had a great time..
Richard Jimenez
Very peaceful and tranquil walked a nice path.
Wendy Lopez
Had such a great time hiking here!! Very safe, beautiful, no trash anywhere (saw that in some reviews) and great views of LA! I loved that this park wasn’t as manicured as some of the others in LA and I loved how much green there was around. Great for workouts! Also loved that is wasn’t crowded
Stephanie Becerra
Love this place .. it's a great spot for a picnic, to just chill by the lake or to take on a serious hike or just an easy one
bryant caver
Great place for hikes with children
Jose Pizana
A great place for the family. Lots of open space and also has a hiking trail which is a bit challenging. Also, this place has a ponf on the very top of it which is great for fishing; however if you are gonna fish there, go in the early morning as many dog owners take their dogs to swim at the pond.
Matt MacLennan
A hidden gem. I go to this spot on the regular. Great for walking and catching spectacular sunrises and sunsets. There are several miles of looping, wide dirt roads to run or walk on and a pond that makes for nice scenery. Great for dogs. There are few people and bikers are rare. Parking is at the entrance. It closes at dark and opens at dawn.
Andrew Baker
Debs is OK. It's not without sketchy bits, but it's big enough to find quiet spots and there's no shortage of places to walk. The developed fields are big but full of gopher holes so watch your step. Parking can be challenging.
Issa Arroyo
One of my favorite places to go for a walk. The view of N.E.L.A makes me nostalgic and lufts my mood instantly.
Eric Binder
Central and a good place to meet up. Some nice views towards downtown.
John Cai
Very hard to find parking but the food is delicious
Sandra Franco
I love going to this place for hiking with the dogs. If you bring your dog to make sure they're on leashes because we have lots of coyotes in this area that have occasionally attacked little dogs even on a leash so that's one BIG thing to keep in mind. There's a beautiful pond at the top of the park nice for sitting around having a picnic, a chat or just enjoying the scenery because you have beautiful views from up there.
People should be aware of other people around them just like in any other big bark and I suggest NOT using both earphones while jogging or walking alone you got to have at least one ear to listen to what's around you just for safety especially women ( you don't want anybody creeping up on you just because you couldn't hear them coming) so having said that this is a beautiful Park, you should come by to enjoy it and please remember to keep it clean and respect nature because it's for all of us your families, mine and the wild life out here
Brian Fox
Great views, rad sunsets, super close, easy and hard trails, perfect for dogs...what's not to love?
Phillip Le Gault
Nice and peaceful park nestled in the hills. Don't expect a view of downtown, there isn't one; but it's well equipped for some BBQ or a dog walk. Would recommend more for a local visit, not worth coming across town for alone. The hiking is nice here though so it might be worth it at that.
Claudia Hernandez
Good hiking place, you can take dogs 🐕 too. …
Juan M
Great view at the top. Also very cool pond perfect for walking your dog
Suleyka Rodriguez
The park is literally about a five minute walk away from my house. I like that I can take my six year old on her bike. Every morning there is a parks and rec worker sadly picking up after people who have gone in the evenings to trash the park. There are trails up on the hill area. I feel safe walking overall.
Jorge Vismara
Super nice park, full of options for gathering, pic nic, and share some time with friends... Great place! we should come more often.
Alfred Gracia
Another great park in Los Angeles. Love this park. Huge park with hiking trails, picnic area's, and lot's of open space. Haven't explored all the park, but did find the peanut lake on top of the hill. Also found the swing with a nice view of highland park area, as well as the other views along the trail( bathrooms were closed on trails ). Definitely bringing the dog's next time.
Miriam Postachian
If you go to park your car in their parking and go to the trail be careful because they closed the gate at 4 pm happened with us leaves the car there and went to the trail to the pond went can back we have a note to call the park ranger to open the gate, we have to wait for 45 minutes for someone open .
Juliana Knight
A great place for hiking!
Carolina Vazquez
Great place to hike and enjoy nature
Ralphlegrand HT
I love this park. I went hiking in Eaton Canyon but it was close due to Covid. Had to find another place to go so I ended up going to Debs Park. I am still surprised that I have never heard of it. Very nice and calm place to hike. Will definitely go back again.
ERC CAR SERVICE
Cool place with an amazing view of the L.A. Skyline
Bill Poon
This short hike has a shaded pond with turtles, a bench overlooking downtown and a swing. The initial hike is steep but on a paved road starting from an ample parking lot within a nice park. Its off the 110 but can get crowded.
Frank MacGyver
Make sure you hike up to peanut lake. It's easy.
Tatiana Gee
Love this hiking trail in El Sereno. Super cute pond at top of debs park. Beautiful views of DTLA, Pasadena, Glendale with a bench for comfort, picnic tables and a lot of flat open space to stop and workout or yoga. Trail is suitable for children and dogs. You will not be disappointed with your experience.
Zi Huang (ThatguyZ)
I often visit this Cool Neighborhood trail
INGRID P
Its a beautiful place to hiking with your family very easy with stunning views .
Judi Bell
This is a lovely local park with a variety of terrain. It is kept clean, is usually not too crowded, & has ample parking. It is wonderful for gatherings with family, friends, or other groups & great for birthday parties. Many people walk their dogs at this park. There are also a few hiking trails and some water (like a large pond or small lake).
Edgar Vasquez
Great place for a workout out in the fresh
Dana John Lance
My sanctuary ... I try to do the loop @ least 4 times a week, about 2.5 miles moderate if you are in relative good shape, difficult if you haven't raised your heart rate for some time. The lake @ the top and views on the way up are quite serene!
John Wutang92
This is my backyard I hike here almost every morning good ass workout ..the hill here will have you bear crawling
Shanon Yu
If you want a hike with gorgeous breathtaking views of LA then this is it!
Thanks to my friend who did some research this past weekend, I went on one of the most beautiful hikes ever. The best part was that the storm had just passed and so the sky was clear and the view of downtown LA was breathtaking!
Parking is easy and free, you have to drive into the park and once you arrive at the end there's a parking lot right in front of the hiking path.
Once you start hiking, there's an immediate uphill climb which can seem daunting but its completely worth it! There's numerous benches along the hike so you can take breaks and relax to take in the gorgeous views. There's also a fish pond in the middle of the park that's quite beautiful and scenic to take photos of.
Overall the hike is about 5 miles round trip but there's various paths so you can always wander off and explore different areas of the park.
Brenton Smith
Wild coyotes, racoons, hawks,& night owls and jack rabbits. I almost forgot beautiful ravens live in the big pine and cedar trees. There's a lake at the top with ducks and swans people have dropped off bc they dont want. The lake is very tranquil. Lots of good trails to hike. Great nature escape in the center of highland park
Thuy Nguyen
Good hike. Beautiful view.
Jan Mallory
A great place to hike and enjoy nature! Word has it that a non-native species of white snails can be seen at the summit, but as I'm not up to that, nor do I have any interest in snails I've eschewed that adventure. There are several entrances to the park and some parking lots. Adjoining is the Audubon Bird Center which features some great events.
Julian Stone-Kronberg
A solid local park that affords great views of downtown LA and Highland Park/ Mount Washington. There is a small pond on the too of the hill which has turtles living in it. The hike can be steep, but is realitvely easy. Most the trails are paved, but not really appropriate for wheelchairs.
James Monge
It's always a great spot to see the sunset
Irma Lopez
Clean and spectacular views. It would be great if the county would spend some $ to clean out the pond and the dried up cascades. Then allow the water to flow again and return to how it was years ago. A beautiful clean pond with a flowing cascades.
Ron Pedersen
I volunteered to help with habitat rehabilitation and it was very rewarding to learn about the plants and pitch in to preserve the flora and fauna of the park. The other volunteers were fantastic, I felt really privileged to join with them in a worthwhile event. What I saw of the park was surprising given its proximity to Los Angeles I really didn't expect to see such a large area dedicated to a natural environment. Thank you to all the folks that work there.
T. Minh
Simply incredible. Must do. Especially at sunset.
Carlos Mayorga
Good place to exercise, take a hike and walk your dog. Also good place to have a family get together
Jay Bromley
The vegetation isn't particularly inspiring but there is a nice pond at the top of the first hill and some nice views of the surrounding area from the ridge trail.
Alisa McClamroch
WARNING: the address sends you to a dead-end dirt trail. The sweetest middle aged women came out and said that it happens all the time and she had a stack of written directions for people, she was so sweet. The park it's self was nice. It had a pretty little lake, but was overall small. Summary: Good hike, not that large and careful with directions.
Greg Romo
Cool park with beautiful sights of l.a
Maribel
A photographer name Jason Cortez was shot here not to long ago randomly by a sniper and was killed I would recommend coming here but now I am not sure anymore be careful and have a bit more self awareness around you .
Steve Stephenson
It's a nice park, with plenty of land scape for hicking, and running, with lots of hills, with awesome $1,000,000 dollar views on top of those hills, day, or night.👍🏼👼🏼👌🏻 …
Anthony Gotta
Beautiful views in all directions.
Elizabeth Chavez
Great place to go for a hike or short walk. Dogs are welcomed on a leash. There's a cool pond that makes for great pictures and calm space.
Jesse
Small but nice trail for hiking or mountain biking. I like coming here to get a quick short work out my mountain bike. All trails leads up to a small lake on top of the hills. Very little shade so come early.
Joyce Villeda
Love the hike to see the pond once you get up there! The breeze feels amazing and great place to sit and relax.
Wilson Kwong
A little different than expected…
First off, got lost using my GPS coming here and managed to go up to a dead end up in the mountains that was connected to the part of the park as told by the homeowners who lived there. Make sure you look at directions in the website and not follow your trusty GPS.
Second, it was an empty in that there was not much people hiking, just like a handful and it was a Sunday. This can be good or bad, but just felt a little weird to us. Good part was there was parking and we didn’t have to park in the street.
Not much scenic views, but dead trees here and there and views of the LA.
Tanay Shankar
Easy hike and pets allowed
M Carranza
Nice hike it's worth it when you get to the top.
wilmer bernall
Depending what part of this park you roam you'll have some sweet views trust we cyclist know, one of my favorite spots is just by n' off the pond for recreational purposes, avoiding people while reading a book n' mesmerizing bout life, people, n situations, all while taking the scenery of DTLA or the sky. I've still haven't explore the full extent of this park but I love this park definitely
Art BanDit
The map makes it look like a flat surface, however, walking to the "lake" (it's small, like a tiny pond) is a steep hill. Not for wagons, rollerblading or wheelchairs. The view from the top is of downtown and the hills. The pond is fantastic if you want to fish. It's stocked full of varying sizes and turtles.
Dawid Yoh
Wonderful trail with shades but have to beware of mountain bikes
Ed Juelian
Good exercise and a nice little Lake you can sit around. Not far from Los Angeles.
Laura Acosta
So peaceful, great for nice relaxing walk
Heather Freed
A nice little getaway. There's a nice pond at the top with many turtles right now. An easy hike that is doable for pretty much anyone.
Ana Garcia
Nice small hike. Could be slightly cleaner. Great for children.
Joshua Espitia
It's a good mix on flat grassy area than an incline that leads up to a pond and short walking trails. Good park to explore for a couple of hours...loved it!
Joanna Jimenez
The views are nice and the hike is great. Place is dog friendly and clean. Great for families. There are many places to rest but one of my favorites is the gazebo and the lake.
Nan Piggott
Breathe taking and jaw dropping.
Catherine A. Montgomery
In the midst of the hustle and bustle of downtown Los Angeles, lies a very peaceful and serene education center and hiking trail. Excellent views of downtown Los Angeles, Southwest Museum and Highland Park. Although it is not a manicured and touristy kind of hiking trail, it is a peaceful walk with good variety of flowers and color, with hummingbirds, butterflies, ducks and turtles in the pond on the trail and a beautiful zen lilly pond outside the Visitor Center. Make sure to stop in the Visitor Center to check out the snakes and get information about the park and education opportunities.
Kate M
The trail is a bit steep for me but we took our toddler to the top anyway, then the beautiful lake appears behind the bushes, such a surprise!
Erika Smith
Breathtaking view over the city of Los Angeles
Blake Altman
The speed bumps deter common traffic enough to make this fantastic park a "hidden gem". (If the other reviews weren't clear about that.) Unfortunately that also means the maintenance, compared to other Los Angeles parks, is poor. Graffiti adorns the bathrooms and trash is peppered through the picnic areas. But the view is nice, the trash isn't bad enough to make the stay unpleasant, and the park is big enough to do whatever activity you have planned.
Damian Ortiz
It's a beautiful hiking place to take yr family dogs and friends I use to go there back in the days with my lil brothers theres alot of trails compare than before 😍😎😍😎 …
Kiby Harris
Nice scenic workout...bring insect repellent....free parking
Lily_0595
Great service, great food, got the chilaquiles and they where super flavorful, but I love the salsa the most, spicy and with lots of flavor. Coming back again when I'm in town.
cheryl penaranda
Beautiful view of DTLA. Great workout! My pooch loves it
Michael Tarkington
I love this place. So calm and serene. Go out on the trail and sit on a bench and get close to nature. Lots of birds to see. And the view from the top is awesome.
Reynaldo Serrano
Great views!!
Lots of trails!!
Alexander Tarrant
I live in Highland Park and my girlfriend lives in Monterey Hills.
I had started to sense a large municipal park between us.
I opened Google Maps and there it was - Ernest E. Debs Park. I am relieved.
We are going hiking here tonight. I think we will find happiness.
Alex T
Dislocation really surprise me it has great views of the city of downtown Los Angeles and had great views of the valley and also Old Pasadena we had my brother's baby shower there and it was nice we really had fun
Richard L
The park is between south Pasadena, and east side of Los Angeles. Next to the 110 freeway and surprise that I never hear of this park despite live not too far from here.
The park js quite decent has good amount of hiking a like but isn't too difficult and is a great park for dogs.
Niola Cusati
There’s a great 3 mile loop up to The lovely littler peanut Lake. A piney woods oasis in highland park. Has some elevation gain so you can get a quick decent workout in!
Christian La Mont
A hidden gem nestled near the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. You can take the Gold Line here (with a short walk) and enjoy bird watching, solitude, educational programming and a slice of Los Angeles that truly should not be missed. The Audubon Center has bilingual community programs every week and the place has a variety of hikes, including one that leads you to a peaceful pond with a gorgeous view of the DTLA skyline.
GIL munoz
Always having a good time at the farm
Coach Alixandrea
I love working out here, doing rounds on the stairs or walking the hiking paths, bear crawling or jogging. This is one of those hidden gems of LA... an amazing oasis right in the middle of a lively urban area.
Geralyn Yparraguirre-Ong
Great views of DTLA. Also a nice work out. The speed bumps on the way up to the park can be a killer to the under carriage of your car so don't try to fly past them. This park is one of LA's best kept secrets. I'm selfishly hoping it continues to stay just locals.
Ben Cavazos
Been enjoying this park since I was a kid. Although it could get a little loud at times on weekends and holidays, the park is big enough to find a quieter place. Nice natural setting in the middle of a residential community.
Melissa Leyva
Such a great hiking place
D.J.W. Words and Sounds
Debs is quite a dynamic natural park and an apparent fixture in northeastern L.A. I enjoyed roaming the trails, taking a break from hiking in the pavillion, witnessing the DTLA skyline and surrounding areas closer to the park, and coming across the pond. I would recommend Debs to any hiker and nature lover.
Christian Sorensen
I am a Canadian, first time at this park, and I loved it! My Angelino companion, however, was creeped out. She appreciated the work of the parks staff in keeping it clean, but what looked like a red and black pentagram for performing Black Mass ritual spoiled her mood...
Mike Gonzalez
Makes my wife and I forget we are in L.A. till the smell of yeska takes over
Jesse James
Great place to hike and get a few miles in. Many different roads within, but beware of the tweaker ppl that live in the bushes. I consider them to be a danger, wish the city would clear them out.
Matthew Bell
A mere minute’s meander up this beautiful trailhead and you’ll all but have forgotten that you’re still very much inside the loudly beating heart of metropolitan Los Angeles. Wind your way up the trail - an easy enough, but a bit punishing hike if you don’t come prepared to do at least a little work to summit this steep foothill - and you’ll find the glimmering gem in the park’s crown, an adorable little manmade lake-ette colloquially called “Peanut Lake” for its full-figured number eight-like shape. Drop by any time, really, and you’re almost guaranteed space and solitude. Drop by again and there’s a better than average chance that you now know one or two or the wonderful regulars who walk their dogs or themselves up and down daily. That sort of civic serendipity can truly happen at Debs Park, which is why I superficially guard knowledge of it jealously, but actually hope that it can be one of many models of a more humanly connected Los Angeles that I believe we have every ability to create for ourselves and create soon.
Ray E.
Just being there on Ernest Park you appreciate the view of the city n you can get different angles when you walk around the park!! Nice place to walk your, picnic or take your date on sunset
Richie Aquino
Lots of terrain variation in this space. Pond at the summit was a surprise. Great panoramic views, including some interesting stilt houses.
Patty Johnson
Nice park with trails and picnic tables. Some trails are steep! A lot of graffiti.
Magg3tk1ll3r z
Great place to hike with kids and family
Ruben Marquez
Great place to hike or just relax and enjoy God's beauty.
Chals Mania
High speed bumps ruin what could be a cool drive up to the parking at top. If there's no parking on top, you'll have to drive all the way down at the entrance to street park. Also note, park at the other side of the street, it's no parking anytime on the side of the park.
Ernesto Duque
Great views from top of the hill.
Fernando Guerrucci
Nice park with lots of room and shade trees. Wish they had a bit more grass and less dirt that is very uneven from gopher holes
Yvet Enciso
Had no idea I'd find this little place on my way down from a hike. Has a nice pond and a lot of artifacts to look at. It even has picnic tables which is nice.
vrg bls
great hiking spot with moderately challenging terrain good for endurance training.
sup hi
Its a nice place to fish and also go for a walk and run i caught 4 fish there wasn't so many but its a nice place.
Sergio De LA Torre
This park is nice at times can be nice just don't stay out here to close to night fall. I've seen countless gangsters smoking and doing drugs here. It can be nice for a picnic though in the day.
Kimy O
Great place for a hike, stroll, run or walk! With a beautiful view of downtown!
Jennifer Lowe
They are entirely self-sufficient! Would love a big display on how they process the poop! Kids I think also would.
Bianca Cifuentes
Great place for a walk, you can challenge yourself by picking some longer, steeper trails. Great place to bring kids and dogs. Awesome views of Downtown and NELA
Brian Won
Nice enough park for some very short hikes, with decent elevation gain. Just remember to coordinate parking with your friends beforehand, less you end up on opposite sides of the park!
Jesse Estrada
It's always good to be home🐈 …
Anna Chagolla
This was a great hike.
Joel Avila
Small pond but good to fish
Jovany Delgado
"Best place to see Dementors", also to go on hikes.

It was nice. Offered a nice hike. Good views as it was a clear day.
M Hickman
Nice place to hike and relax. Oct.9 1978, Their were three boys fishing in the lake on top. My girl friend and I were sitting on hill top when heard boys yelling. So we looked over the hill and saw a 11 year old in the middle of the pond under the water and the boys said “help him”. I ran down and jumped in. The bottom is flat and then drops down over my head. Then I swam over to the boy. He was still not moving and when I retrieved him I expecting a fight for air. No resistance. I kept his head above the water. My thoughts of CPR training was coming back to me from days when I was in the Scouts and ROTC. I got him to shore and started to clear air way. And he start to chock, couch and spit out his lunch. There were no phones up there to call for help. When the color came back to face and he was able walk. I drove him home with friends.
Jacqueline English
Lovely nature park tucked in the hills justside downtown L A. Plenty of hiking trails great for bird watching and they have activities for adults and kids to connect them with their environment.
Richard Wood
Nice, clean and shady. There is a big pond where you can often find ducks. Only downside is the hike up a hill to get there.
Sam Siam
Trails aren’t that packed and the views / pond are marvelous
Frank Larez
Peaceful At Night . But Daring The Day So Many People Go Walking Dogs It Not The Same Any More I Remember When I Started Jogging There In 86 Nobody Was Around . I Still Go Jogging After over 30 Years I Am The Veteran Of The Park
Joel Pulido
Be cautious with the speed bumps as you go to the parking lot, there are very noticable signs car scrapes in the past for a reason. When my female companion wanted to go to one of the restrooms, it was locked as compared to the restrooms in a different spot that was open.
Teddy Sanchez
I Love This Paradise, Specifically rn now after the rain has fallen, the smells of the forest are delicious💚 …
Randall Szpyt
Great to have these trails to walk with my dog. There's a pond and fantastic views of Downtown L.A.

Anna Sickler
I'm happy LA has such a large protected park (2nd largest in the county) but the paths could use repaving.
Randy Urena
The best kept secret trail in middle of LA. Awesome views of DTLA.
happysmash27
Very good and in a convenient location with good public transport access! A bit too hot at times, though, not that they can help that. The buildings are cool, however!
Jamie Lai
Really pleasant park. Lots of birds. Big incline. Plenty of parking.
Gary Standke
This place is large with many things to do. I went hiking on all the trails up, down and around the mountain. Bring water as it gets hot and dry.

This is a great local park with many views, it is the backyard of mine and many other homes in Monterey hills and Monterey Park... for safety issues, don't be alone after dark
RUGGEDRICH
No fish here don't even fish very hot and long walk up to lake. Pond is a chill spot to hang out. Very dangerous at night though.
Renzo Manrique
Nice views, could be cleaner. If you live in the area, it's a great place to go for a walk or jogging.
WhtRabbit
Debs Center is quality education experience. The place is in need of more transit funds, so children from any L.A county school may visit an ecological environment, that is inclusive to all of nature, plus a
L.E.E.D.S. certified building.
Andres Melendez
