Reviews of Angeles National Forest
Reyes Coronado
I love that there is a forest down by LA. It's the straight wilderness right next to the city. Pretty cool. There are lots of cool places to check out here. Wonderful scenic views. I like coming in threw the Angels Crest highway. Pretty quick you can see how high up it is.
Omicamy Myers
It was my first time ever going to this national forest, I didn’t know that this national forest existed. I went with a group of friends and we hiked on this trail call “Strawberry Peak”. It was really fun and challenging, but when we got to the top is was worth it. The view was really beautiful. I definitely enjoy my time there and hope to go back again and explore the rest of it.
Holden Wilbur
One of the best national forests, this one harbors such wonders as Switzer's, Trail canyon, Fire Camps, Nike Missile Bases, and many more. There are so many world famous trails and classics here. Nearly nearly everyone in Los Angeles has been to one of the cool trails here. Whether you just want to go for a short hike or drive deep into the mountains, this place is perfect.
David Piller
Fantastic park that not many know about and I kinda want to keep it that way. The drive up there is adventurous and once you get to the top it's serene. Definitely need to go there during the winter to catch the snow!
Virinder Vaid
A perfect place for a day’s family outing. Tall mountains greet you as you start the climb on a two lane winding road, with many turnouts to watch the changing scenery. The first picnic area with tables, restrooms and trash bins is at an altitude of apx 4700 feet. The temperature drops to very chilly here. Enjoy a nice break, have food, watch scenic hills around.
Note that there are no food or gas outlets in entire hilly area.
As you start your journey further climbing to apx 7000 ft, you will find snow to enjoy more.
But note that temperature is near freezing here, so must have proper warm clothing
A great full day family outing to remember.

I was shocked that after living in the area for a couple of months, i only now heard of this place. Immense beauty and such a nice drive to do! Bathrooms Ive used at the picnic sites were all pretty clean considering they’re out in the forest!

We are fortunate in LA to have the ANF right in our backyard. There’s endless hiking and biking trials, campgrounds, wildlife and spectacular views. Pay the $30 to the National Forest for an Adventure Pass so you can have access to parking and day use of certain campgrounds.
Andrea Kibler
Nice short hike. Park right by the bridge, I always display my adventure pass to avoid any parking ticket. Not exactly sure if it's needed here but better to be safe than sorry. Trail starts on the West side of the bridge. The trail has changed since the last heavy rains but as long as you follow the stream up. The pools have all been filled in so no more waist high pools to cross which is kind of a bummer. But can now be done without getting wet. The waterfall is flowing nicely right now (March 2022) but the main pool again is completely filled in with dirt. So bring a snack to enjoy at the falls now that there is room to hangout by the falls without having to be in the water. I watch people climb the ladder but its pretty sketchy. Use common sense and be careful if you decide to climb. In & out is only about 2 miles. Pack it out & leave no trace.
Nerual
Crowded on weekends, and lots of dude bros in souped cars that drive too fast zip around on the highway, but the hikes and views make dealing with that worth it! Make sure to have your adventure pass, and don't leave your trash on the trails :)
Roy Hart
Mt Wilson trail in Sierra Madre to Mt Wilson. 7 miles and 5000ft of climbing make this a hard climb. Very popular trail especially on weekends. Parking is on street and fills up fast in the am to beat the heat. Get there by 6:30 or expect to walk 1/4 mile to trail. Most people stop at First Water, 1.5 miles or at Orchard Camp, 3.5 miles. 1/2 way up but only 2000ft of climbing. Climb gets much harder from this point the rest of the way, especially up to the bench (an actual bench). Only sketchy trail section is here with a 100ft rock slide section with a steep dropoff. At the top is the observatory, museum and Cosmic Cafe (only open on weekends). Cafe has hot dogs, chili, pastries, some fruit, coffee and tea. Nice spacious, covered seating area. Many people take the trail back down, not easy, very hard on feet and knees, but one can also be met at the top and drive down. This is one of many great hiking trails in this forest located right next to Los Angeles area.
Joseph Gerrick (Scott)
Drove up Angeles Crest Highway. Fun drive for me, made my wife carsick. Should have been scenic but heavy overcast blocked the views.
Mt Wilson observatory was interesting, but stocked in. The cafe was out of Chile and apple pie . The coffee was good and the had a nice selection of teas.
Miriam Postachian
We went today july 16, less water, but nice, a lot of shade, but if you go take a lot of water you will need

Beautiful but dangerous roads surrounded by fantastic trails, streams and a river. Great cycling area but can be extremely hot!
Golden Energy
Beautiful hiking area I love the river streams the mountains suggest you wear hiking gear bring a hiking stick and be prepared to enjoy nature ✨🧗🏿♀️⛰️🥾 …
David_Diaz
Beautiful scenic drive. The only down side is road closure along or somewhere on Angeles Crest Highway(CA-2).

What a gorgeous location. It’s truly a huge forest right next to LA.
Highly recommended for people looking for some amazing views, cruising, and endless hiking and bike trails
Nick Harutyunyan
It's a great place where you can just relax and enjoy the beautiful view of Los Angeles. The forest is one of the few remaining open space areas in Southern California. The forest is an important part of the overall health and well-being of the area population. It provides open space, solitude from the everyday stress of modern living, a place to conduct research, a haven for wildlife, and offers a wide variety of recreation opportunities.
Arthur Kegerreis
I haven't been to this office, but the staff were incredibly helpful one year when I wanted to drive up Mt Whitaker and wasn't sure if the gate was open. (The road has sometimes washed out after rains in the past) Someone in the office called a nearby ranger who checked that the gate was open, and they called me back to let me know. It's a bit surprising that mountain is part of Angeles Crest; it's on the west side of the I-5 grapevine and borders Los Padres National Forest, but Angeles Crest maintains it.
I've spent more time exploring the northern slopes of these mountains, and since the mid-90's, the forests have changed dramatically - both from fires clearing growth and from new growth on the forest floor. I think their other office is in Acton, and they've been helpful too, letting me know if this headquarters would be better qualified to help me.
From Mount Gleason to Mount Baldy, there are tons of spectacular hikes, many offering great views of the Mohave desert and windmill farm up near Temecula. One of my favorites is Pine Mountain, directly across Highway 2 from Mount Baden Powell. There's a beautiful road from Palmdale to it, running up Big Rock Canyon road, past a prison camp, and up to meet the highway. The first time I found this place, the forest floor was open and mostly covered only with pine needles and very tall pine trees. A couple years ago I visited again and barely recognized it, since there was brush covering the entire forest. That was before the last big fires, so not sure the current status.
Camp 9 is an incredible place to watch the sunset, but they've closed public access after 6pm now, so you can't enjoy the view during the summer anymore. (Most easily accessed from Canyon Country, though visible on the ridge NE of the San Fernando Valley as you head north to Santa Clarita on the 5) It was a set location in the TV show "24" at one point.
Matlaz98
I loved this trip, very spectacular view from the Los Angeles forest mountains. Good place to slide on the snow. Quiet to take the children and you continue along the path in the mountain and you will reach the town of Palmdale, where you can get off to enjoy a river and beautiful views of a lake.
Tawny Green
Always have loved this place! It's so calming and relaxing. My family has been coming here since the 1960's, if not earlier. It's always refreshing. Definitely a must for anyone in the area!
Dalio Estrada
By far, one of the best hikes I have been on in a long time. No trash or graffiti to damper the mood, everyone we ran into was friendly and respectful. Definitely recommend, it's a bit of a drive from where I'm at but definitely worth it!
CHAVA LOPEZ
My husband and I love coming here. We find it so peaceful and very zen . Nothing like being outdoors and in nature as a family wit our fur babies.
Akiko Liu
Literally one of my most FAVORITE mountains to go take photos. Scenic roads, well paved/maintained.

Was beautiful, was on the hike to Switzer Falls. I got lost on the last way of the trail as there were 2 ways, and I ended going up the wrong way. Still got some nice shots though!
Mr. Shackleton
Despite the chard trees and scorched landscape, there are still some good spots to check out. When I arrived at my campsite I discovered the previous guests did not put out their fire properly and I was disappointed in my fellow man. Set up camp at Chilao campground and it was not too bad. The preferred spot is Buckhorn but they’re closed, but you can still walk into buckhorn and go on the trail that has a secret little freshwater pond that was very nice to visit. My 3rd time Buckhorn and I wish I could have hiked deeper into the trail at their campsite because it’s very nice. Sorry I can’t remember the name of the trail but it’s the only one at the buckhorn camp I believe so good luck

Snow season, snow mountain. It’s amazing that we can reach snow so easily now. Come here and enjoy the silver world every time after raining. It will be Worth it! Highway 2 is not always open all the way to the mountain high though.
Jake Van Duyne
So gorgeous!! I love hikes with nearby water and that combined with being in the mountains makes this spot a gem.
There’s plenty of territory to cover. We hiked about 6 miles and there were many trails we missed. The old school camping lodges are really fun to see too.
Parking can be tough over here so get there early or you’ll be tacking on an extra mile or 2 to your hike!
Alen Smit
WOW, what an amazing place. Wouldn't you agree? I suggest more walks in such naturally beautiful environment. To see the whole beauty you should make it to the top, it's worth it - stunning views clean air. Very happy we visited.
dennis loria
Spent the weekend camping at Table Mountain Campground. I can not believe a place this nice to camp at is this close to home. Love the fresh small of Jeffery Pines and the views here are spectacular. We will be returning as soon as we can
Evander Camilo
Absolutely Fantastic team! I called them on Friday Afternoon and asked for the AC and Furnace system. within an hour I received it within almost cheaper than other companies!

Beautiful forest with so much to do! It has amazing roads for driving, great when they’re quiet on a Sunday morning, along with biking, biking, skiing, and more. Stunning views are to be found everywhere.
Justin Bradley
So much to see so much to do. You could easily spend a lifetime exploring this pace and still see something new each day. There are miles of unique trails, vast forests of California Oaks and other native trees. Creeks, streams and rivers. You could summit a mountain, explore forests, and get lost in an extremely dynamic region. I mean it, you could easily get lost. Pack accordingly, map out your hikes and bring survival gear should you get injured or lost. This is not a regional park. This is essentially a wilderness with wildlife, dangerous terrain, poisonous snakes and plants. That being said, life doesn't come with a helmet. Get out there, enjoy the fresh air but respect the land. Leave nothing but footprints and bring a small bag to collect the trash left behind by other selfish jerks. If you've never been, do research, bring friends, and check with a ranger station before setting out into the forest.

We drove up after the recent snowfall a few days before. There was a long line going up the mountain but once we passed the 2 tunnels and small town, finding a place to park for snow play became easier. We went on New Years Day and was climbing the mountain around 12:30 p.m. There were lots of families out there with their children playing in the snow and riding those round sleds. It was worth the trip for my So Cal kids to see snow in person for the very 1st time. Fyi- fill your gas tank before climbing the mountain as there is no gas, no cell service and no car services on the mountain. There are signs that warn you of this when you get possibly too far up.
Taryn Hains-Karmilovich
What can I say? My husband and I climbed Mt San Antonio (Mt Baldy) and went up the steep short way (5.5mi) and the views were incredible. The weather was perfect with a bit of a breeze which was nice when we were hot. We enjoyed seeing the ski hut on the way up and then got lost by the ski resort on the way down, but asked for directions at the restaurant. Because we parked at the Mt Baldy trailhead, all we had to do was take Baldy Rd down to where we started. In reverse, maybe it would not be so confusing. It was about a 12 mi hike and worth all of it. If you don't want to do all that hiking, the ski lift can take you down for whatever they charge for lift tickets. Well worth it either way.

Good place to take a ride, stop and eat and Newcombs Ranch. Scenery is amazing. You get to escape city life, destress, relax and kick up some adrenaline. Be very careful seen lots of accidents and riders go overs rails. Stay safe.
Terry Goss (The Next Hundred Miles)
Very cool and unexpected. The rocks are incredible and the hikes are easy. Bathrooms on site, picnic tables and interpretive signage on trails. Definitely worth a stop.
Ian Raymond
A wonderful park so close to the city. A short drive makes it feel like you've retreated in the woods.
Wonderful scenery along the highway but plenty more to do off the main road. Hiking, biking, skiing, camping ... etc.
Ankit Patel
it’s not hard to find nature in the area around Rosemead. One popular nature area is the Angeles National Forest in neighbouring Arcadia.
This mountainous forest is vast and consists of several beautiful wilderness areas. A variety of outdoor activities can be enjoyed in this park, including, hiking, biking, and skiing during the colder months. Picnic and camping areas are also available.
Tyler Birkoski
I love these mountains so much. I go hiking a lot all over varies areas and its peaceful. I do not appreciate when I see litter, but I am sure it gets dealt with even by people who pick up trash on their own. Beautiful place. Nature is perfect.
Nice local retreat from the surrounding Southern California area. Easy to find yourself completely taken by the beauty hidden beneath the trees. Always worth the trip.
Mateo Diego
Been coming to the Angeles National Forest since I was a kid many years ago. Lots of great places to explore and camp. Now days we do a good bit of mountain biking up there. There are a number of great and challenging trails for hiking and biking. Make sure to bring plenty of water and stay hydrated.
Azucena Alvarado
Nice view, you can walk in the road or the trail, waterfalls are at the bottom and the mines were far, nice place to walk, we had to park in the street.tip get a stick because there are wild animal, if you go deep yo can hear them.
Sean Harwood
This time I hiked Mt. Wilson. It is an awesome hike. I would say it was a good hard 7.5 miles up to the observatory they have up there. Some turns on the cut backs have gorgeous views and there's plenty of places to camp up until about 3 miles in I would say
Chris Bart
We took a long scenic drive through the mountains here! I can’t rave enough about how amazing it was to get a chance to reconnect with nature! Not very far from LA! The only thing we missed was no snow. Just missed it although some of the very high peaks had some.
If your looking to reconnect with nature around LA, then this is probably the place for you.
Nick Zamorano (Nick Zamorano)
Very beautiful, hikes can be challenging at times, probably due to the altitude, but I loved the scenery and mountains. Go through deserts, cross creeks, we actually counted over 70 times on one trail, and beautiful forests. It gets cold at night though, so pack accordingly.
Justin Thomas
I didn't go all the way into the forest. I was in the area for work just after a rain storm. Everything was very green and beautiful. It was truly scenic seeing all the snow on the nearby mountains.
W.C. DOGSIDE
I love it up here! So many great trails with wild life to see. I bring my dogs up here and we see deer and even bears. There's some streams for them to run around in. I would definitely recommend coming here, it's so close to downtown Los Angeles yet feels like it's so far away.
Justin Hamblen
A nice national forest with so many hidden treasures to find. Easy access from the LA area. I prefer the eastern side further away from LA, it’s a little cooler with larger trees. The only downside I will note is the poor condition of the highway - there are always huge rocks in the middle of the road and you really have to dodge them in order not to destroy your car. There needs to be more done to reduce the rock slides onto the highway road.
Edgar Escobar
Loved it but if you're trying to make your way to Big Horn Mine Trail, save it for a later date. (It's 1/3/22) there's snow that has blocked the road there and it's not easy getting there.
Patrick S
A great place to drive in the mountain roads early before the crowds get up and ruin the drive. Some very nice places to day camp and have some cool hiking or lunch stops. I head up here at least 2 times per month to recharge. If driving, please, please pull over when there are more than 4 cars behind you or the person wants to pass. The signs do say, "Slower traffic use right lane". Don't be a jerk to the others that know how to drive mountains. If you prefer to drive slow, use the turn outs to allow others to go by. Share the road and please take out your trash! The mountains are beautiful until humans stop caring about them.
Cortney Lenardson
Hiked to Inspiration Point. The trail was a little narrow and parts were washed out, the views were absolutely gorgeous though!! One of my favorite hikes.
Vel
Pretty fun, our husky first snow experience. She loved it 🥰💕🤍. …

I hadn't been out in connection with Mother Nature in a while. This hike is great for getting back in the outdoors! It's beautiful and a cool trail to enjoy!
Ashu Dave
Pretty cool and nice weather right now. Perfect time to go for hiking there. Explore as much as you can you will love greenary and scenery there. Really beautiful views.
Karina Flores
Incredible views!!! With amazing sunrises seems sunsets. A quick one hour, approximately 3.5 mile hike close to Burbank with easy access to the 210.
A hike for all fitness levels, you can take the hills if your up to the challenge, bring water and a towel because you'll need it or you can take a leisure walk up the fire road at your place with an incline that is comfortable.
Be careful with bikers coming down the hill.
Not very crowded, though parking can be tricky if you go at peak hours, 8 a.m.-10 a.m. or 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
Elba Arias
My fave place for space🤫. An awesome spot for star gazing ✨ at night. Get ready to make a wish (or two 🤞🏽lol) I’ve witnessed a considerable number of shooting 🌠 and falling stars here 🤩… …

This place really speaks for itself. Such a gem just right outside LA. Huge variety of hiking and views and beautiful roads. Friendly for cycling or the like as well. One can be from Pasadena to 5000+ feet in under 20 miles. Even on a hot summer day it’s always cooler up there.
Adrian Gamaliel Cruz
Even on those days you just wanna stay home after a long week of working. This Sunday was different not just because of the snow & scenery. But to have family, friends, & kids around to enjoy it all with plenty of snow to go around. I will return

Super awesome amazing views and trail's

Love it! Always such a relaxing place to be either by just driving up the road or hanging out in some of the look out spots. Its so much fun...
Highly recommend when you need to think or simply clear your mind and enjoy the beauty of nature...and why not take good company to enjoy it even more...
jeremy thein
Always a great time and quick get away for some snow, just wish people would not park where they are supposed to, makes the road dangerous.
Leonardo Genzon
I'm not sure if this review is for Lake Piru, which I recently visited, or the entire Angels National Forest but either way it's a 5/5.
As someone who has lived in LA County most of his life but remembers life in his birthplace, having a National Forest in our back yard is one of the greatest benefits of our urban sprawl, and one I don't take lightly.
Piru Lake is pretty awesome. Boating, fishing, camping and more.
2 Group camp areas. Area 2 seemed bigger but area 1 is basically on the on the shore of the lake.
Bathrooms with running water (and showers) were a bit of a walk away but the port-a-potties on site were clean.
Camp host comes around in the evenings and will even deliver firewood and ice (for a fee). A sort of concierge service.
Just north of the lake you can find a huge park with a playground.
You can only swim in designated areas but because of all the rain we got this winter (2018-19) they were, unfortunately, underwater. I think I prefer this to the lake being almost dry 2 years ago.
We got some nibbles but didn't manage to catch any fish.
Lhynnix
I been in a few hiking spot/area in Angeles National Forest. Fun, difficult, strenuous, hard, steeps hike. Mountains offer different scenery (views). I will be hiking more next year whenever the mountain don't have any snows. I can't wait.
Candy Waltrip
If you drive north of downtown LA and follow Angeles Crest Highway, you’ll find yourself driving up through the Angeles National Forest. It’s such a beautiful drive with several vista points along the way. It’s also the perfect spot to enjoy a snow day with your pup.
For further details, check out my travel blog.

Beautiful place to go for a drive, lots of hiking locations and hidden spots to learn about too! Always the most beautiful when it snows!
Heather Evardome
Love driving up the hill to sit next to the river and find peace from the city. Just wish people would treat it with more respect pick up after yourself & stop tagging Mother nature!!!!!
Victor Z
Awesome experience at Table Mountain at the Angeles National Forest! First getaway since the pandemic and my family definitely enjoy every minute of not being at home! Perfect temps on a early July (lows in the low 50's & highs in the lower 80's) and at the time we went (Wednesday to Friday), other campsites were vacant, so we felt safe. Simple trails and had breathtaking views around! Our campsite was 105 and had a water spigot in front & was convenient for us. Bathroom was a good walk away (vaulted toilets). Not close, but not far either. It had a decent view but not as nice as other sites. Not complaining though! Also can get pretty windy at night. My wife kept freeking out in the middle of the night since the wind really howls and sounded like someone was pushing our tent. I didn't though. :) I love nature & was fun for me! Had some fun grilling, s'mores, hiking, tossing a football, flying my drone and being outdoors. Writing this makes me want to go back! Cheers!

It was a very nice walk. The only problem was that some areas had bikers and their ramps. Views are amazing and it was very refreshing

Ryan McCarthy
Beautiful forest. The Drive is nice. Commuters are disrespectful. Limited wildlife left. Forest Service should pick up trash or Caltrans. Cycling, Hiking, Shooting Range, are a constant. Be Respectful and responsible.
Josie S
Nature is always beautiful, the adventure pass works here, no need for extra fees on hikes. Clean and mine gulch trail was fairly easy, not real steep. Was fun will come back.
C Tinieblas
Place is good for an afternoon hike, few trails around and views of the Valley. Its just UPSETTING that ppl trast it SO BAD (most inconsiderate ppl around...every trail/open space around ppl use it to dump trash). Wish there was a "system" to clean and maintain it clean, as it should be.
Jenny Steele
Millard falls trail - took our tiger cub scouts here and it was a blast. Lots of water crossings and climbing over little boulders. Easy hike for 7 year olds but still so much fun. The waterfall at the end was fantastic! I highly recommend this hike to anyone with children. Or anyone in general. It is only about half a mile to the falls which makes it good for all ages. We went the day after ot rained and it was beautiful. And the trail was very clean!
Chasen Gold
Get outdoors for an amazing adventure, bring water and a flashlight!
David Jimenez
Nice hike that follows the San Gabriel River into the mountains. Yur going to get wet,but its nice. The East Fork trail is one of my favorite close to So Cal trails.
selene aceves
Wow!! So many beautiful places to hike and enjoy the scenery. Always nice to get away from the city.
Lydia Trejo
I loved it because I am a desert dweller that got to see snow. Super close to the desert. Had a blast sleding. Can't wait to go to Yeti Snow park.
Keith McCormick
Amazing place to hike. Gorgeous views on the way to Devil's chair. There are a few sections of trail that could stand to be repaired to allow easier access, but still easily doable for someone in decent shape.
Lady Warmachine
Fantastic drive. If you love curvy switchbacks and gorgeous views then take a drive up the Angeles National Forest. So many tremendous vistas. Breathtaking.
Jessie S
An awesome scenic drive with plenty of places to stop for photos and picnics. People with motorcycles and nice cars were enjoying the many sharp turns. The route can close on occasion so check the weather.
Daryell Claude Camacho
The trek to Millard Falls was amazing; considering I brought my two small dogs with me. We loved the entire experience. Very ..." Over the river and through the woods..." Will definitely go with friends throughout the years to come!
Peter Gossett
One of the coolest places I've ever been to. If you love nature and/or hiking, definitely check this place out.

Beautiful place to go to relax to get away from the city. 30 minutes from Palmdale 30 minutes from the San Fernando Valley.
Sheri Williams
Love this place everyone is hiking and I just pulled into parking at 'inspiration point' and got a great veiw and great pictures!!!! Lol not tired at all :)
Taylor Koenig
Awesome roads to drive and explore, lots of look out points and hiking trails!! So worth it!!
Juan Rodriguez
Love the trails to hike and to run. Amazing views at all the different peaks.

My next door stomping grounds. You want to de-stress in 30 mins? Drive these roads, destination not necessary.

My favorite park in Los Angeles. Plenty of things to do, and areas to hike. I'd recommend Rubio Canyon if you're looking to get away from the city while being in the city. Very peaceful trail with small rivers. Otherwise, inspiration point via Echo Mountain is a total blast, just make sure to stock up on a few snacks and a few Liters of water!
Cassidy Fisher
So beautiful!! And full of some amazing hiking trails too!! I'll definitely visit it again soon!
Ethan Cas
Amazing place: great hiking and camping, spectacular views, a little loose ground and also bears at campgrounds a ranger said nightly, and we saw a mom with 2 cubs.
Esmeralda Martinez
Grate place to hike and beautiful... views. But disappointed with the mess people leave behind & the color of the water. Does anyone have a clue or info in regards to that? I was really grossed out although it was clear... I am guessing the ground surface is what makes it look yellow? I really hope so.
Ismael Angel
Great experience just bring a oxygen mini tank almost went into cardiac arrest 🤦🏽♂️ …
Nina Ray
Perfect view and scenery also cable car is gorgeous experience.
Vercassivellaunos
I had been going to a college with my cousin every morning trough LA forest. Loved the nature and winding road. So relaxing and beautiful.
Jason Milligan
Beautiful spot to go hiking in the Winter in the summer all year round you can get a little lost sister on the trail if it's your 1st time
Carlo N.
Angeles National Forest is a paradise for nature enthusiast. It is only less than an hour away from LA. A perfect get away to do hiking and be in nature. You can easily spend a whole day here. Overall, I had a good experience hiking all the way to the top.
Evgeniya Bozhko (KoriAndrTheCat)
Compared to Forests in other states Angeles National Forest definitely loses, but for Southern California, where everything is dry, it is great to have some area that is not filled with buildings.
Christopher Roman
There are so many possible adventures awaiting here, just take your pick. Amazing hiking close to the city - every hiker in the area has visited multiple times. Don't forget your Adventure Pass.
Gus Salcedo
Early June and there's still snow on baldy, good long hike, highly recommend if you love hiking and experience nature. Watch out for those Rattlesnakes...
jacqueline Just a Husky Mom
This trail is nice, lots of shade and has a stream at the beginning, but it's all up hill the 2 miles in, then all down hill the way back, great views , not a lot of parking so get there early and bring lots of water
Suki H
Love Angeles National Forest. Lovely way to spend a day hiking and bird watching. Occasionally you can even find the seasons here in Southern California. Plenty of wildlife if you can manage a quiet spot. Hopefully folks will keep it safe, no fires.
Nobody Never
I love it up there. We went to the Big Horn mine. Great hike. Scary mines. Good times.
Deckie G
Great place for a drive. And get out into nature, some great hikes here for all levels
Amruta Pohankar
We did the blue horn mine trail which is 4 miles out and back. It is a beautiful trail with ample shade every now and then and amazing views throughout. Our kids (4 and 5) managed to walk too by taking lots of stops. There are some rocky narrow patches in between, but nothing that cannot be done with the help of grown ups. The mine itself is pretty old and the wood at the entrance to the mine is not very intact. We did not take our kids at the entrance, more because the short path leading to it was a bit difficult. Overall a great experience. Could not have wished for a better setting to celebrate Father's day!
Paloma Uribe
Beautiful views, hiking trails and amazing overnight camping grounds with fire rings, tables, benches and out houses. Very affordable overnight rates.
Anthony Lanting
We traveled up Mt.Baldy to eat at the lodge which has been open since 1914. We had a great family lunch. Quiet environment, cool spot during the heat. Parking was a bit limited.
Diana Martinez
This place is beautiful in the summer and the winter season!! My children and I enjoyed This Beautiful Wonderful view!!
Sean Prusak
Wonderful place that ride motorcycles or drive thru. Beautiful place and views. Cleaner air.
Suprava Ahana
It’s a beautiful place! Sunset from there is amazing…it’s really pretty in winter. You can also catch snow storms here!
因花的花花世界
I love the hike there. Beautiful peaks and not too crowded during the week.
Jared Byrne
I've been to the area a lot throughout my life, and I don't recall ever coming to this forest. I was brought here to see the location and we just drove through, although I'm sure that my family would love to hike and/or camp here in the future. Nevertheless, this place was worth a visit. A quick visit or longer stay didn't really matter because it was Absolutely Gorgeous!! with lots of beautiful scenery to look at.
Joseph Walker
My friend group and I found the hike to be good going down the pavement trail and grueling going back up. A bit short as this trail ended in a parking lot but it was chill. Only 4 stars as there was no bears bathing in waterfalls.
Denise Callahan
Only thing is people who cant think stopping in the middle of the road or parking. Come on people have some common sense. Other than that it was beautiful
Adrian Becerril
Some of the best, most rewarding parks Southern California has to offer. Keep it this way! Leave nothing but footprints, pick up your trash.
Denise Michel
One of the best hikes I've been on. Gets a little bit difficult at the end when u go down to get to the waterfall. The trail definitely narrows so be careful! Also, there isn't too much water right now but the hike there is actually what's worth it.
Jaeden Branom
If I were to choose any local mountain area to Los Angeles it would have to be the Angeles National Forest area! Sure Big Bear is nice and all but lately the snow has been bad. This National Forest is right at the doorstep of L.A. You can even see the snow there sometimes from Reseda! Even during the summer it’s nice with views of the desert and an occasional thunderstorm! Go to the Angeles National Forest today!
Also that last part might’ve sound like an ad but it’s just my genuine opinion.
Rory McKenna
view from Mt Wilson is beautiful ! fyi, the Observatory parking is open 10am to 5pm.
warning about parking at the lower Observatoey parking lot: if you have a Dodge Durango or a Tesla, the signal from the radio towers overwhelm your key fob, and you won't be able to open (or in the case of Durango, start) your car, if you park too close.
if you happen to get stuck, shield the key in a metal box with an opening, and point the opening towards the back left part of your car. That should enable you to unlock the car and start it.
if the little snack shop/restaurant is open, they have plenty of experience rescuing folks, and can help.
jerry jenkins
Loved it! 10 hour hike. Thought it was going to be at most 5 or 6 hours. Gets to a sharp chill after 3pm and drops quickly when atop of mountains. Beautiful, just amazing, seen some deer, woodpecker and birds. I love my girl so much for taking me here! She knows who she is😏 e.m.v.😘 my love.... Oh! Very intense on the hamstrings and thigh muscles.
Tori Walker
It was so fun, drive a bit past or before Mountain High, bring a sled or three and let your kids play in SNOW.
Will
Great trail and very close to civilization.
Hidden gem and great view if you go up to Bailey Canyon View Trail (right) instead of the waterfall. Steep trail but worth the work for the view...
Martin Herbst
Visit Mt. Waterman ski lifts in the winter, when we have had a good load of natural snow. Very close to the city. In the summer they have a professional 18 Hole Disc Golf Course and Bike Course.
Karen Henkels
Great! Thats once we got thru the crowds heading up. But its was beautiful so I got lots of nice shots.
Chloe Alix
Absolutely incredible. Surpassed my expectations. We did the Sturtevant Trail which I highly recommend. Moderate. Easy to find and incredible views. Dog friendly.
Chris Ogden
This is my stomping grounds. Been in the Valley 50 yrs and i love driving 20 minutes to somewhere like this. Pay very close attention to speed. Just 2 days ago I could show you a dozen or more places were cars have gone off the road. Recommend for first drive you go in the daytime.
Kyle Newman
Fantastic location, lots of space to not bother anyone, and easy to have a good time, just absorbing the view, hiking, or even doing some radio work!
edwin alvarez
Enjoying the views, the man made lake while working with seal Team
James Darren Howery
Love going to the mountains and especially when it has snowed. Absolutely beautiful but it pisses me off when I am told I have to pay for an "adventure pass" to even park. It's the freakin' mountains for goodness sake.
Emmanuel Limaco
Our national forests are so vital for the ecosystem and the future of our world, and they are so beautiful! Angeles National Forest is so peaceful and captivating during the early spring or late winter, full of neat spots to stop and take in the view. When the winter has been rainy or snowy, the Tujunga River is a beautiful sight to see. Be careful though, snakes and wild cats or coyotes can sometimes be a problem.

The canada flintridge on highway 2 is one of the coolest drives ever. With just one full tank I got to drive thru some of the coolest mountains in the san gabriel area. Your adventure awaits just keep your eyes on the road for falling debris rocks any type of wildlife. I drove at night decided to do it and slept halfway mt islip area seen the morning sunrise as it glared into my car window. Some of the best scenic views would be the beginning of the canada flintridge so enjoy remember watch the road in front of you because curves can get really scary driving at night. Watch out for deer on the road and no texting if driving. Drive responsible
bashfulpanda lover
Very beautiful. Can't wait to camp here
Ruoping Xu
Found a campsite here and drove in for about 30 minutes on a jeep. Was well worth the trip. The location was isolated and we had a beautiful view of the sunset.
jj t
Beautiful place... Make sure to visit the perch restaurant... They got you covered and there whole staff is awsome
Maggie D.G.
I volunteered with my granddaughter's school class. It was a beautiful site. Our guide on our hike was very knowledgeable. It's cold up there though. Stay bundled up.
Outtherenomad
Beautiful views. Lots of trails. Bring lots of water, it's hot and there is no water out there.
Pulgas Ameca
Beautiful hike, if you've never gone, U.S. flag is about an hour from restrooms at park, difficulty level from 1 to 10? I'd say a 7
William Shuster
A little slice of heaven in our backyard please be careful it's icey know what you are doing or don't go this time of the year don't put others at risk
Cole Wilcox
Beautiful mountains but full of exposure and canyons so watch out. Lots of hikers and mountain bikers. Everybody be nice to each other and the bobcats and mountain lions - you're in their home.
Cardio King
Beautiful place to hike. Also many different trails to choose ranging from easy to difficult. Some trails are stroller friendly.
Hernan Jr Navarrete
My experience here was meditation forgetting about the big city and focusing on it's beauty of mother nature. No signal, no computers sounds, not traffic of cars, no helicopters roaming the skies searching people's who break the laws, no siren's of ambulance and Police, Not a single problem at the office we're your boss is on point with you. No this place has none of it only brings peace and serenity in the wild, adventures at you're feet getting splashed by the River Band looking at animals and birds that fill your life of happiness.
This was more of a great experience for me. An experience that takes you to the Beyond of this beautiful landscape of mountains and trails, rocks that you have to climb, dirt and muddy parts that you have to avoid this is what I call a great adventure a great part of your life is to go out there and seek your happiness. You only have one life to live this moment of peace you can go back and do it again over and over.
You focus on your inner self on your Chi and your spiritual world it's a good place to cleanse your stress and your depression all of this can help you by climbing walking and just standing there taking the best picture of that you could ever have. These are the moments that one cherish in a life time.
Tan Nguyen
Short ride for snow play. Mountain Hardware is the best store. Even in this Covid-19, they still provide clean rest room with super nice & friendly staff
Damian Kevitt
Went here right after a snowfall. Beautiful!! Was on a Saturday and was packed with people, which was a bummer but everyone was enjoying it.
Melystikal
Perfect place for a nice little cruise and soak up the amazing mountain views. So many stops you can just park to relax or go on a hike.
alfonzo sanchez
Cool place, but need snow chains & a four by four car because it's very slippery.
18 blackona
I love coming here to unwind and de-stress something about a Winding road that calms me down, that and the fresh air
liana sinapyan
Our favorite spot to go hiking or to see snow, depending on the weather!!!
Savannah Draudt
This was such an amazing adventure me and my family went on my oldest boy was taken away by all the beautiful sites!
Gabriel leon
This place is amazing. Especially around winter time. Any time really inspiration point away from the resort was awesome. No people, plenty of parking, no tickets, plenty of snow.
Nell E
Beautiful and peaceful place. The drive was a challenge but we got it done. I was more of a spectator so I wasn't able to stay long but I would recommend if you are in the area. Lots of parking, beautiful views and a place to be close to the water. During the week it wasn't too crowded either. Get your nature! :)
Nick Bond
Still much evidence of the fires but the beauty still there as it revives
B Beck
Love Angeles it's beautiful full of wildlife and dozens of easy to hard hikes. Kind of small for a national forest but large for camping and fun when you think of the proximity to freeway.
E Neville
Big horn mine trail was pretty tough but worth it. Is only 7 miles round trip but it's high in elevation.
Irene “Blue” Johnson
I love these mountains so much. I go hiking a lot all over varies areas and its peaceful. I do not appreciate when I see litter, but I am sure it gets dealt with even by people who pick up trash on their own. Beautiful place. Nature is perfect.
Joe Joe
You need a car in good working condition for this trip. The lower part of forest is dry lacking tress, (unless hiking by a creek) hiking in this area you will be exposed to the sun. Above 7000 feet the land gives way to alpine forests. plenty of hiking trails and recreational opertunities. Bring plenty of water and pack a snack the Angeles National Forest is vast. Make sure you carry chains for your vechicle during the winter months, the roads can be dangerous.
J. BISBAL
Love to go to this area to drive, explore, climb and hike all possible routes, great views from the top, the only problem are those loud speeding motorcycles. It is safe and there is plenty of parking; must buy an Adenture Pass available online and at some local 7 eleven stores. Also great place for stargazing at new moon.
Ethan Murdock
The mountains are gorgeous, very rigid, very dry. Not nearly the same as the east coast but gorgeous none the less.
Claudia Arellano
I like the curves lots of places to stop and see and also the snow and much more nice to be there for an adventure....🤩👍 …
m m
Love working up here. The air is so great to breath early in the morning.
Jacob G
I have been somewhat regularly exploring out here when I'm tired of city life, and I have been consistently surprised by the abundance of wildlife and geographic diversity....its only about an hour from the Hollywood sign in the valley, and at the top you'll find coniferous forests, waterfalls, meadows and scenery you might expect in Colorado.....there are hundreds of miles of hiking trails and recreation areas, including the Pacific Crest Trail. There are dozens of day use picnic sites, and for the more brazen adventurers there are plenty of overnight primitive camping sites. A word of caution, watch out for wildlife, never hike alone, and always bring plenty of water and supplies.....
Olivia Johnson-Sather
After a long hike it was such a relief to reach Top of the Notch! We did the Mt. Baldy hike in Angeles Forest. Beautiful views but it is an intense hike. Research before going!
Chris Hart
We hiked up to Etiwanda falls - it's a medium effort trail with a beautiful payoff at the end. I only wish morons would lay off the graffiti and pick up their trash.
Aaron Shapiro
Looking to get lost in nature without loosing your whole weekend? The southern portion of the Angeles National Forest is the perfect location for short excursion. With entrances in Alta Dena, and east Burbank it's easy to loose yourself in the natural beauty of these hills. There are hikes for all types of people and breath taking views. Just a 45min drive from the center of Los Angeles, you can go from the concrete jungle to this lush forrest. Don't forget to bring plenty of water and snacks.
Micol Hebron
I love Angeles National Forest! It's nearly in my backyard, so I go up a lot. There are several car camping campgrounds along the 2 highway, and they are $12/night for a single site. Be sure to get a Forest Adventure Pass if you plan to park for the day, or overnight. A day pass costs $7 (or $30 for the month) and can be purchased at the Shell station at the base of the 2 near La Cañada, or at the ranger stations on weekends. There are lots of hike-in campgrounds, too. Bear Canyon is one of my faves. You can find picnic areas all along the 2 and in Tujunga Canyon. Rattlesnakes are in these hills- watch where you walk, and keep your dogs on leash. There are bears and mountain lions, too, but I have only ever seen their poop; No IRL encounters. This is a great place to practice for long distance hikes, as the PCT runs through ANF, and there are plenty of backcountry campgrounds. A hike up Strawberry Peak, Inspiration Point, or Mt. Islip will not disappoint, with beautiful chaparral and stunning views. Practice Leave No Trace! Pack it in, pack it out. And drive safe on the 2- there are BAD accidents from careless/speeding drivers nearly EVERY weekend.
Thomas Troub
My regular trip to the Bridge to Nowhere..... Never disappoints and the dog loves the water crossings.... Well, I do too 😊 …
Kenji Coleman
Great road to ride. But beware of rocks and pinecones on the road everywhere! And the road closure between Wrightwood and La Canada until approximately November 2019.
Britney Cocanower
This place is very quiet but felt like some1 was just watching me from a distance. It was weird but yet I like it.
Andrzej Potasinski
Beautiful mountains with plenty of amazing hiking trails and mountain bike trails. Great views of Los Angeles
David Woodier
We found some great places to drive our 4x4 crawlers.
Jon Shieds
Tram ride is fantastic, great meal at the top, try the chocolate cheesecake. Adventure and scenery.
Olga Khanenko
Beautiful view.. Easy and safe road for all car type
Juan Sandoval
Beautiful sights and places to stop and enjoy the scenery special since our water supply is at max
Ashish Trivedi
Beautiful dry views and if you are lucky you may see full rainbows !!
Valerie Economu
So glad I took the time to enjoy the beautiful morning at Devil's Punchbowl!
The entire morning I witnessed the resilience of nature to come back out of the ashes.
The park is up and running with daily hiking trails. The variety of wildflowers is abundant and the views of our valley are remarkable.
Isabella Kintz
Beautiful! My family and I love hiking in the Angeles Forest!
Crystal Stephens
Absolutely beautiful here. You need to see its beauty in person to truly understand and appreciate it in all it's glory.
John G
spectacular views well maintained roads all within a short drive from the big city. What's not to like. Humm well the traffic is kinda crazy on the weekends but its all good.
Alexander Santayana
Having just moved to the region, I had no clue that such good hikes were close to LA. Many of the hikes in this area seem moderate to moderately challenging for an active hiker.
Nader B
One of the best places close to home to hike, jog and bike.
Jesus Bernal (HuntingYou007)
Great place to visit and enjoy family time.
Tamara Mendez
What a spectacular view!! Easy to get to, plenty of parking, nice climb. Feel the burn!! See the beauty!!!
Ena Farjardo
Is a wonderful place for anyone who like to see the nature and can to play at the river
Vic Hanson
I parked at Vincent Gap and hiked up to Baden Powell and then went to Throop Peak an back. Lots of switchbacks and a steep trail but one of my favorite hikes in the Angeles Crest area by Wrightwood. Great views of L.A. on a clear day, as well as the neighboring Mt. Baldy.
Janet Zepeda
Just a beautiful place to go relax smell the fresh air and enjoy the water
Jiji Gutierrez
It has a beautiful view to go with the whole family and enjoy to the fullest
Rich Le
To be fair, I haven't had much experience in the forest. But nature doesn't seem so bad. We came in January, so there was a little snow on the ground, but didn't see any animals or critters. We were there ziplining through the trees.
tommy c.
scenic drive up the twisting, curvy roads along the side of a mountain; in wintertime, it was a quick getaway from LA to see some snow, but be careful that the roads may be closed at times due to weather
Alex Y
Great getaway to find your peace. Like to go there again for hiking or ride motorcycle
Douglas Gillert
Can't wait to return and hike Mount San Antonio in San Bernardino County. The mountain was tagged Old Baldy by oldtime minors and today is better known as Mount Baldy. From I-10 or CA 210, take Mountain Ave. North. About 8-10 miles to the visitors center on Baldy Road. To hike costs $5 for parking.
Dan Roesch
Nice place to go boating.
But, some times the staff can be quite unkind.
My friend had a bad battery on his boat, so I brought one and left it in the back of my truck.
He arrived at Pyramid lake, and ask the people at the gate if he could pay, Drive-In get the battery and go back out for muscle inspection, The staff would not let him drive in without a mussel inspection. he has a bad hip, and he had to walk all the way to the launch ramp, to get the battery for the boat , and carry it back to the pay booth. Sometimes our public servants are less than helpful.
Dr. Ann Hartley
This is one of those places I'd rather people not know about. Free camping with senior pass. Near ranger station = safe. Just don't go near the rest rooms which are awful. Bring water and your own commode. Beautiful spaces, well located right off I5.
Bethany Barber
In terms of SoCal hikes, this is a pretty good location. Some of the trails offer shade, and a select few even have running creeks, streams and waterfalls. The utilities and park services are not kept up well at all, but I like to go to get away from civilization for a bit anyway.
Michael Farfan
Just got done hiking to the water fall. My kids really enjoyed themselves so did my wife and I. Such a great family outting area to explore. Ran into deer that literally come up to us. Definitely going back soon
JT
Devils punch bowl got some nice ass views and sick ass trails!!
Dave Lockwood
It's super foresty here. I don't really know what else to say. It's a beautiful escape 15 minutes away from an ugly reality.
Lemony juice
THIS WAS THE MOST FUN i have ever had.
Dev N
We love going to the Big Horn Mine! We just took our dad there for Father's Day and it was a super fun way to spend time with him. The only thing that was sad is that there are a whole bunch of tags all over the rocks and trees on the trail.
Zoe Schultz
Was some trash but very beautiful... I went when it was raining so that is why there was fog.
Sheila Hauser
Such a beautiful place!
s yescas
Great place to enjoy sunsets and spectacular views of our wonderful surrounding cities

Henrique Barbosa
8 mile trail back and forth to the summit. Almost 3000 feet of accent, so you for be prepared.
Emmett Sfetku
So many outdoor activities. I try and ride dirt bikes at least twice a month here. Lots of single track & 1 way trails as well as a nice track.
Beizawit Emiru
I didn't plan to go there, I was trying to avoid the traffic on the 14. Just took the forest highway, didn't think I'd get lost but then I found myself at the end of the road overlooking snowcapped mountains, green thick forest...the best part was the quiet. It was QUIET! So quiet no sound of birds, no wind, nothing except the occasional sound of a passing car. I didn't even realize it was Angeles National forest. I'm going back again.
Justine Segura
Very peaceful,so much that I fell asleep in a hammock and it was the best day. Perfect escape from the real world
Janisse briseno
One of my favorite places to be. The forest is beautiful
Krystal Sparda
Awesome spot to have a wedding! Beautiful view! OMG the view... it is breathtaking.
Lori Welch
Great hiking trail for those who love nature. Moderate climb with good elevation gain. Burn lots of calories on this one.
joe lach
How can you not love a forest ! The Angeles National Forest is located in the San Gabrial Mountains and the Sierra Pelona Mountains. My pictures are from the Sierra Pelona Mountains. The Sierra Pelona's include such places as Bouquet Canyon, Fremont, Leona Valley, Elizabeth Lake, San Fransiquto, The old St Francis Dam and much more. It is a beautiful drive.
Stewart Wattson
Good local nature spot. Nearer and less crowded than Big Bear or Arrowhead, but does lack a little for a central attraction like a lake.
Joshua Maddux
A great place to reflect and enjoy the outdoors. Go outside and enjoy the nature around you. Grab a friend (2 or 4 legged) and take a hike!!
Just make sure you wear some good shoes, bring some water and take some alergy meds (if you need them).
Matt Gage
Go specifically for the driving experience. Please pull over when someone pulls up behind you. Have fun and stay safe.
York Wilmore
Beautiful California Mountains and fantastic canyon road throughout!
Legal Analyst
Breathtaking! Excellent vistas. A great canyon carving drive through Lake Hughes to Castaic Lake.

Amazing place with fresh air and awesome nature views and trails

So peaceful. We happened upon these pair midway to bridge of nowhere. Earlier in the morning there were 3 of them butting heads in the hillside. Everybody is friendly on the trail and picks up their trash on the east fork hiking trail.
Elson Ab
Really awesome place. a lot of places to camp and hike.
Josh Epstein
I have been wanting to ride through here for years and finally did it. Would highly recommend you make the drive

One of my favorite mountain drives. Such beautiful landscapes, and I remember when the trees weren't burnt down. As you can see the earth has healed just nicely.

Anna Terrones
It's an amazing place to go spend time with the family if u love the outdoors

Camping here is beautiful and a perfect getaway. Yet it is very close and the drive is short. There are lots of trails to hike, mountain bike and dirt bike or Jeep on.
Melodee Mortimore
The views are unbelievable especially around 7 15 pm with the sunset
Michael Kamali
Great place to take hiking trips, picnics, or just a walk about. Short drive for a great escape from LA.
Ramiro Pantoja
One of my favorite places on the plannet, Angeles National Forest offers fun and adventure for the entire family, a couple or individual hikers. The weather does get cold there so come prepared. The road is another dangerous factor so dry safe and cautiously when visiting and HAVE enough gas when driving up Angels Crest Highway. Otherwise, it's fun to play in that BEAUTIFUL scenery and great memories are created every time ;) FYI park rangers usually ticket visitors if you dont have a California Fun Pass for State Parks, so make sure to find out if you need one before going there. Enjoy.
Ken Annand
So quite during the week. Take your time on hikes. Stay on the trails.
Greg Thomas
Beautiful hike, bright blue sky and oh the clean air
Dino Johnson
I just bought this place . Who knew that a little white trash kid from Coachella would end up owning his own forrest or being the king of the united states'of america but it did... Hey gotta go it's time for my medication. They say it helps me be so successful I hope so because I'm buying Canada next week i love syrup and moosehead beer.

Amazing hikes and views. Doesn't make you feel like you are in the largest metro area in the US. Hiking on Thanksgiving. Beats the cold of the Midwest.
joeyautomd
While it's a great scenic drive, it is also Automotive enthusiast preferred HWY. Hikers, bikers, and drivers alike enjoy the many aspects of the Angeles national Forest.
If you find yourself in front of a fast approaching vehicle take advantage of the many turnouts to take a moment and enjoy the spectacular views.
One downfall is occasionally people will dump debris from demolition and trash along the highway if you come across a pile of trash or see someone in the ACT please notify the forestry service immediately.
God bless

Awesome drive. There's plenty of trails and if you go high enough there's even a little spot where you can get natural water from the mountain. So good.

Very beautiful forest. Wouldn't mind going back again. And it looks like there's constant maintenance practices, which makes the experience a more pleasant experience. Could possibly use more sturdy trash cans and maybe signage to continue educating the general public (users/visitors) to this majestic site. Educating everyone alike about our personal responsibility to pickup our own generated trash. And, leave the forest as clean as possible. I think it has to do with how we respect places like this forested area.
Courtland Davis
Pretty environment outside of the big city with plenty of animals on the property!

Running stream over rocks and plenty of trees. Good trails. Serene setting.
Miriam da Matta
This was a great hike. Cooper Canyon and the waterfall was a wonderful outdoor experience. Water was clear and the hike was fantastic. There is a rope you need to use to go down to the water but doable. The entrance to the camp was a bit confusing but we found the way and it was worth it. The view from up there is breath taking. Highly recommended!

Jorge Razo

Mark Wheeler
Fees areas are marked. Not so many trees anymore. Show your kids where forest used to be. Free camping or are they homeless???
It all burned down. Now a barren moonscape.
Martin You
Drove from Pacific Crest to La Cañada, the views are amazing dynamically changing from tall pine trees to more desert vegetation. The roads are very windy and fantastic for taking your sports car. Many emergency stops along the way. Be careful, however, there are a lot of fallen rocks on the road.
eluncle
Stayed at Manker Campground for 2 nights before we experienced a forest closure due to fire danger. Took the chairlift to Baldy Notch at the Mt, Baldy ski resort to hike a couple of trails. Also hiked to San Antonio Falls. This a beautiful area. Just wish this trip hadn't been cut short.
Tristam B
Lots of trails for all activities: offroading, MTB, hiking, snowshoeing, skiing.
Bobcat fire closure area is not posted at each trailhead, so be careful not to wander into that area.
Chris
Dirty rest room! ! No rest room at camp site
Claudia Sand
If you like hiking...this is a good place to visit!
F Mndz
Big Dalton Nature park above Glendora was lush green with a running creek, after the rains in 2/15/19
Tom Grbavach
Take the hike/bike up to Cogswell, it's a great trail.
Ejay Menchavez
I love hiking and camping out here. There's so many different spots.
Be prepared! I know it's so close to LA and it feels like you don't need much in terms of supplies, but make sure you have more than enough water, a first aid kit in the car at least, food, extra battery for your phone in case it dies, trekking poles, and the right clothing for temperature.
These are the mountains and although it's easy enough, people get hurt here all the time because of poor decisions. Don't be that person.
am “MDCCLXXVI” B
worth the drive. make sure you have enough gas, and visit the ski resort. you can also get to Palmdale taking the 2
Tony Silva

It's amazing place to ride and walk. It has so many interesting places that you would be able to visit all of them in several weeks. Hot in summer, cold in winter. The nature is beautiful! Crazy amount of hike trails.
Jose Hurtado
Love this route for rides in motorcycle, bikes, cars. Very relaxing rides
Mark Greydanus
Well it is a nice drive now that the fires are extinguished. Take time to stop roadside in the burn area and run the soil thru your fingers. It is amazing how hot it was there...they soil is very fine like silky as it slinks back to the ground.
Sally Hernandez
Trail canyon trailhead was about 4.8 miles. I hiked it with my kids and they managed it. Great workout overall
moe addasi
Great picnic and hiking area
Tammy Nguyen
It was a short camping trip. It was nice to see the full moon & and the stars up on the mountain. The coyotes came out howling bcuz of the full moon. It was nice hearing them for the first time but also scary bcuz lots of them came out.
If you have motion sickness need to be prepared yourself bcuz the long winding road will make you puke.
Rachel McCracken
We hiked for two and a half hours and didn't reach the end of a trail. There is so much to do! I only wish there was a map somewhere so we knew what we were getting ourselves into. The trails are easy to see and beautiful. It's very nice to be able to drive an hour outside the city and find such beauty. If we lived in LA we would definitely be going again!
ken wilken
We spent a couple of days at Table Mountain campground near Big Pines, Ca. Beautiful, quiet, cool. Great local getaway. Can get noisy if real busy.
Khari Ali
Great views, I love flying over this place because you get to see what your in for once you start hiking the trails. Once you start on the trails your in for an awesome workout. There weren't too many bugs also but I was lucky since I had my bug deterrent which I do recommend using before you start hiking
Mark Todd
Nice scenic hikes & drives, good for unwinding.
Albert Douglas
Been enjoying the scenic route since 1970. Back then we rarely thought of it as a racetrack like so many do these days. Safety gives way to speed. The fire a few years back destroyed 😭 many beautiful pine trees. The campgrounds are fun to visit!! …
