Reviews of Nevada Boys State

Nevada Boys' State has been one of the most incredible life changing experiences. What started as a group of 130 boys from around the state became a family of young men. This program has taught not only leadership, but also the values of brotherhood. Boys' State taught us delegates that we are future leaders of Nevada. We must stay involved with civic and political issues in our communities, state, and nation. If you have any doubt of attending, don't think about it, just sign up! I promise you will have a great time.

Nevada Boys' State is a once in a lifetime opportunity that has helped me grow into who I am today. The program offers an inside look at how our local and state governments run while allowing delegates (Attendees) the chance to run for office. The counseling staff creates an environment for delegates to not only thrive in, but grow. You leave the program forever changed with a newfound sense of honor and duty.

What can be said that hasn’t already been said. I attended Boys State over 10 years ago and still commonly reference the lessons I was taught and heavily utilize the leadership skills I was able to learn. It is amazing that the colleagues I had while attending are still in my circle and the counselors I had are still role models to me.
If you can send your son to only one camp, you would be ridiculous to not choose Nevada Boys State. It’s a camp where young men get to learn about reality and gain an understanding of applicable skills in leadership as well as the fundamentals of the world around us. They will get to brush shoulders with current leaders of our communities and future leaders of our cities, states and country.
All in all, it is motivating, educational and a whole lot of fun. I will never forget my time at Nevada Boys’ State.

"May the memory and experience of Boys’ State be ever with me as a
constant reminder of my obligation to my country." This line from the boy's state creed is never more apparent than in the friendship and familial bonds we shared as a city during this week. I am proud to say that I attended Nevada Boys' State and that we won Honor city. I hope to keep in touch with many of the staff and the delegates. I urge every upcoming senior to attend this great opportunity to laugh, learn, play, and have an indescribable experience at Boys' State. This truly was an incredible week and I highly recommend the experience to everyone.

My Delegate year was in 2019, I had an amazing time I didnt think I was going to have a good time at Nevada Boys State at first, but around day 3 i fell in love with not only the program but with my city and the others. I will definitely be recommending this to many of students at my high school when school starts up again in August.

This program was truly memorable. I attended as a delegate in 2012 and was able to create and develop new friendships I keep today and skills I continue to use. I highly recommend this program for any high school junior boy who wants to learn more about how local government works and how to develop the best external and internal leadership skills. When you fully engage yourself into the program, Nevada Boys' State will be one of the best weeks of your life.

I attended this program as a delegate in 2018. I must say, this was an amazing experience. I used to have trouble socializing with others, but the people I met here were part of the reason I improved. On the first day of the trip, I was put into my city (Howard) which consisted of 22 delegates. We were immediately given the task of climbing a wall, a task which demanded the use of teamwork. Despite just meeting one another literally a few minutes before the task, we managed to complete the challenge in 11 minutes. The second time, about 3.
As the day persisted, it felt as though I knew my fellow delegates for an entire week; on the second day, a month; and on the third day, we all felt as if we knew each other for an entire year. The people you may meet here are just simply hardworking and ambitious people.
Not only are the people amazing, but the food is as well! Everyday we're served a buffet consisting of hamburgers, pizza, fruits, juice, soda, water, milk, chocolate milk, etc.
This program bases itself upon many aspects of the political system of Nevada. I'll be completely honest, I knew NOTHING about politics when I attended the program. In addition, I was never a great speaker or writer (I'm more involved with science and math). However, you learn to get the hang of it overtime. Most importantly, Boys' state isn't just about teaching young leaders about politics, it teaches us about getting out of our comfort zone. For example, I had no idea what a committee chairman, city councilman, or senator was, but I ran for all offices. I lost the election for chairman, but I persisted and managed to win the positions of councilman and senator!
Also, the staff are all funny and inspirational people.
Overall, I urge any interested student to apply for this program, you'll make so many new friends no matter how shy you are (trust me)!

At the beginning of the program I questioned all the talk I heard about how life-changing and influential the events of the week would be. I soon realized, however, that the people saying those things weren't exaggerating in the slightest. The program truly opened my eyes to the political system of our community and state in a fun and supportive environment. Beyond the hard work and the learning experience, the program provided me with the incredible feeling of brotherhood that I gained throughout the week as the members of our great city bonded and grew closer together. I have recommended this program to several of my friends already and urge any incoming senior to attend and have their lives changed for the better.

I attended Nevada Boys’ State in 2014, and it was an experience that has always stayed with me. Getting to actually run a mock government was invaluable heading into my senior year for AP Government. Not only that but Nevada Boys’ State teaches students how to be a leader. If you feel unsure about applying, don’t think about it. Just do it. You won’t regret it.

Nevada Boy's State is not only a very useful practice ground for political skills, it is more importantly the greatest breeding ground for the future leaders of Nevada and the US. The staff at NBS are a group of studs who deserve their own review. These people are incredibly kind, funny and most importantly have your interest at heart. NBS was a life changing experience and I hope I have the chance to give back as part of the staff.

Nevada’s boys state taught me a lot of things in a short amount of time. I’ve learned how to project my voice more, be more confident, and lead other more effectively. The brotherhood is the best I’ve seen, the delegates clicked together on the first day, and it just kept getting better and better. I’m very thankful for the experience I received, and I hope to see this place again!

I was completely scared about going and was unsure about being there the entire week. I knew nothing about politics and I was afraid I would be the odd ball out. After the first day, I knew that I wasn't the only one, there were others like me. Throughout the week, all of us guys learned how to work as a team in both politics and playing games. The staff members were very welcoming and made the experience even better. I am so glad that I took the risk of participating at Nevada Boys State.

This was seriously one of the most enjoyable weeks of my life. I wasn't really interested in the political aspect of the program coming into it, but after being around my counselors and city mates, I couldn't help but get into it. In six days, I learned more than I've learned in three years of high school. This program has a political backdrop, but what it really develops is you. If you're a quieter kind of person, being around such a close-knit group of people gets you used to that sort of thing. If you're kind of pessimistic sometimes like I am, coming here and having a blast helps you realize that not everything is a bad thing. I can genuinely say that I had a good time at NBS, and I wouldn't take those six days back for anything. I'm super grateful for the family friend that recommended the program to me, and I'm even more grateful for the people who made it as fun and enjoyable as it was.

I recently attended this program. All I have to say is WOW. Everything fantastic you have or will hear about NBS is absolutely true, and so much more. There is no way that I've left this experience quite the same person that I was before, and I couldn't be more grateful. If you are skeptical and coasting through reviews of this program in debate of if you should apply- DO IT. It is one week, and an absolute blast.

I count this program as one of the most transformative experiences in my life. The opportunities to take risks, maximize your full potential, learn, be humbled, be strengthened, and be sharpened are all available here and waiting to be seized by you. You have a once in a lifetime chance to discover your leadership potential through the confidence and competence of this amazing staff team. You will not regret this program one iota.

One of the best experiences of my life, I enjoyed the activities, the mock government, and all the wonderful people I met. I may be reserved and quiet most of the time, but I found myself always excited and managed to find an important place in all of it. I only wish I could go through it again.

This is an amazing leadership experience that I recommend every eligible high school junior attend. The staff is inspirational and the program truly is life changing.

Great, in-depth program. Delegates stay in a beautiful university campus and learn the ins and outs of our government, and spend a day in the State Capitol.

One of the only programs that can facilitate fun and education into one woven masterpiece. A great program to attend for a junior looking for opportunities of success.

This program strengthened me as an individual and helped me realize my true potential and future, all in the span of one week. Highly recommend!

This program was amazing, my favorite part of the program was the workshops and the counselors. The counselors were amazing and probably one of the best parts of the program
