I’m evaluating from a hiking perspective. There looks to be great recreational boating, fishing and camping opportunities but I am not evaluating that here. I did a few of the trails today and the conditions are to be expected this time of year: spring melt and muddy conditions. I will say that trail 1 is need of substantial maintenance as parts of the trail are falling into the lake and the creek crossing bridges are tired (some of cast off to the side in disrepair). Beyond that, the views are great and it was nice to see the family cemetery still able to be viewed on this beautiful property.

I never been here before but I loved it. It got cold at night & it started to rain on our last night. Trail 4 is rugged. Lots of stairs. But beautiful. Off the beaten path. We did see some deer on our way to beautiful. One thing I was worried about was gas. There are 2 gas stations at the entrance. The camp store don’t have much so I’d pack a little extra.

I really enjoy the fact that they have an archery range that goes out to 50 yards. Well marked and I really also like the fact that they have 3-D targets to shoot at. Definitely pretty valuable being out here in Wabash Valley. Do you make sure that you get the park pass because it’s going to be a lot cheaper.

Clean and vast!! Love the lake and the trails. You can kayak all day. Its easy to just pull up to any spot on the bank of the lake and take a quick swim or just enjoy nature. Plenty of space for all water vessels.

Nice little spot to camp at the campsite. It allows 2 vehicles per spot and 2 tents. Up to 6 people. Went for a weekend away from the city and it was quite nice.

I needed a place to relax and get some work done and the lake couldn't have been more perfect. Plenty of space for me to have my own area and keep a safe distance from others. The park is clean and the rangers are so friendly!

We camped at an electric site. There was plenty of room for my tent and hammock. I loved my little hideaway behind the pop up camper. The fire pit was perfect for charcoal grilling and burning wood for a nice evening fire. The shower houses were nice and clean as well.

The staff is friendly and the land is well maintained. The beach looks great although it was closed during our visit in May. The camp store was adequately stocked with essentials and souvenirs. Took two stars off because of the tiny camp sites. We reserved a primitive site because photos made them look larger than the side by side RV sites at the main camping loop and somewhat secluded. In reality, the primitive sites pretty much only fit a car and a tent, not much more space than that, and zero privacy. When sitting by our camp fire at night we would hear 3-4 different conversations going on and neighbors were just a few feet away in each direction. Quiet hours were not respected or enforced. I'm going camping to get away from people not to be bunched up with strangers in tight spaces. Vertically there also wasn't much space as no matter how we parked the Jeep, our roof top tent had branches up against the tent. We picked up bottle caps and plastic pieces at the campsite and along one of the trails, not a big deal but we always leave places cleaner than we find them. I'd come back camping if they had larger camp sites. For now I will only visit again for the beach.

Just make sure to secure your food they ain't kiddin about them raccoons 😅 during a really stormy night we had trail mix in the tent. Four of us in the tent 👩‍🦰🧔🧒👶. Im half asleep half hearing tearing just thinking it was the rain fly ripping away then I heard the growling 🦝 😳 that woke me up instantly because I have 2 small children and we left our dog at home...I smack my husband awake yelling at him to go out there don't let them get away! Idk why I guess I just didn't want them to be rewarded for naughty behavior 🙃 😒 we did recover the torn open half eaten bag of trail mix I instructed my husband to put it in the truck till morning 🌄 😅 we left the flashlight on facing the new hole we had in our tent the rest of the night. We will never go camping without Nessy🐶 ever again

Had a great time on Labor Day, wasn't too crowded. Nice parking lot at the Hollandsburg boat ramp; just a long walk to and from it. Only one truck can use the launch ramp at a time, which I could see being an issue on busier days, but was fine when we were there.

I was looking for a new place to go kayaking and decided to check out Raccoon Lake. I was originally planning on launching from Portland Mills Boat Ramp and going up the creek, but that ramp was closed. So instead, I launched from the main ramp (Raccoon Ramp) and went around and up the west side all the way to the US-36 bridge (it gets too shallow quickly after that). Going on a day that was windy, the water was pretty choppy and going back into the wind was a challenge in the more open sections of the lake. There also is some boat traffic that you have to keep an eye out for, as well as the wake they generate. Overall, it seemed like a nice park and kayaking was fun and improved once reaching the no idle zones, but I wouldn't describe it as the most scenic or best place for kayakers. For that, I'd recommend checking out Yellowwood State Forest.

We loved primitive camping here once the weekend crowd cleared out...before then it was fairly uncomfortable. The vault toilets were EWWW with waaaaay too many people for such limited facilities. We drove to the bathhouse at the beach to use the restrooms. Also, the raccoons here are no joke. They seem very big and very strong and highly organized. They didn't care for the healthy food we brought but broke into coolers and rubbermaid bins (with latches!!) to steal marshmallows and packaged treats. Racals!!

We love spending time at Raccoon lake. Beautiful, nice peaceful place except for those few boaters that think everyone wants to hear their music. I'm sure you have great taste in music but sometimes people just want to relax, fish, and listen to nature.

Good camping close to Indianapolis. The sites are a bit small and close together. They really pack you in there. The trails are nice, and you can rent a boat to go tubing, or whatever, which increases the fun factor a lot! Dont let the small sites or the closeness bother you too much though, it's not that bad and mostly depends on the other people around you. Most everyone is nice, and there for the same reason you are. I did have a very inconsiderate person bring 5 dogs (in itself not a big deal) but one of the dogs barked all the time. Nothing like getting woken up at dawn by a barking dog. So a note to dog parents, you know if your dog is a barker or not. Do the responsible thing and leave Spot at home if he's going to ruin it for everyone else.

Lake is cleaner than most. They have very nice trail around lake. Lake easily accessible from campsites via trails. Kids love it!

Had a great time with my family over the 4th. Took my wife and step-son out tubing on the lake. They'd never been before and loved it. Swam with our dog and watched fireworks. All in all it was pretty great and it brought back so many memories. You should go experience it. Even if it's just a picnic on the beach.

This place has alot of camping space and almost everyone there is nice and is easy to make friends with. Plenty of trails to walk or places to swim with your family too. Overall just a great place to hang out with friends and family.

I visited in November so there were no services and the lake was low. However the park was very clean and the staff was friendly. fall camping is very peaceful there

We were more than kind of disappointed in the trails here. There appeared to be a lot of foot bridges on the non-paved trails, which, whatever, but some were in major need of repair. Some hand rails might be nice as well. I don't expect to be catered to just because I have kids, but we ended up not doing any trails while we camped here in the fall. The new paved trail looked very nice, though. Our camping experience wasn't bad...Except for my husband waking up in the middle of the night to find a raccoon trying to pull our kids' travel bag through the door of our tent! They don't call it Raccoon Lake for nothing.

Been camping here during the covered bridge festival for many years. Campground is kept up-to-date and clean. Campground workers are all very nice. Campground is usually sold out during the covered bridge festival, so book a site early if you want to enjoy this great festival.

We love Raccoon SRA! We go every year as a family and try and get 4 or 5 sites next to each other. We've been on several different loops and have loved every one. The raccoons are getting out of hand, though. They destroyed my brother in laws truck window overhang things because his toddler dropped food in her car seat. They also pnctured every can of soda under my larents camper. Please, people, secure your food so the raccoons don't continue to try and get into every little thing. It's not good for them or us.

One of the best kept places to camp and fish in Indiana. Camp spaces are always neat and clean, spaced out and the shower houses are always stocked and cleaned regularly. They have an exceptional camp store and two convenient stores right outside the gates for other needs late or not available at the camp store.. very good for families

This park is BEAUTIFUL !!!!! Campground is huge and clean. Also has primitive camping area. Big lake. Good fishing. Hiking trails. Swimming area. Canteen....in season. Beachfront. Fishing from bank. Shelter houses. Grills. Also has a paved biking/golf cart trail. Can't say enough. The ONLY thing that I could say negative is that the lake is big enough that gas powered motors are allowed. So if you're looking for a quiet lake that only allows electric motors and not as many people, that is in the same area, go to Rockville Lake. Other than that, this place is AWESOME !!

Great place. I hiked the loop made by trails 1, 2, 3 and 4. That put me at 18k steps. It's hard to gauge actual distance, because trails 1 and 4 are rugged with a lot of sharp inclines. But it's all worth it, for the vistas of the lake opening from those rollicking hills are absolutely breathtaking.

The beach part looks very clean with decently clean facilities. Kind of a small swimming area but it seemed to accommodate a large crowd. This park has a designated fish cleaning facility so that's a pretty cool plus. I have tent camped here before and the campground was well kept and quiet (I imagine the RV part is the same way). Has a boat ramp and multiple shelters with grills. They have a paved trail that would be great for biking and walking. Quite nice overall.

We unfortunately camped next to a group of pigs that left a mess of their campsite. Across the street we had the party all nighters that were screaming until 230 am. Security did nothing about it. We have been there before without mishap. There were boats parked everywhere In the campground. The area is nice. We enjoyed the lake, canoeing and hiking .

Super beautiful place! With warm water to swim. We rented a boat for 13 people to go around the lake. It was amazing! The personal who took care of us were super chill and nice! The only inconvenience we had was that nobody was there when we were trying to berth the boat and we struggled a little to do it. Well, now we know how to do it!!

I started going to Raccoon Lake state park in 1965. It has grown and improved over the years. I have nothing but great memories there and now my own adult children bring their children there. One thing I sorely miss is the awesome beach house/store that used to sit atop the hill at the beach. I will continue to vacation there as long as I am able. Start a great tradition and check it out. Boat rental , camp store and accommodating staff will make your visit the start of your own tradition.

My family and I love this state park and will continue to visit for many years to come. The campgrounds are very large and have nice amenities. We usually stay on the non-electric sites on the western half of the property next to the lake. Showers are normally very clean and functional. Sites are fairly large with room in between. Raccoons are very prominent so make sure to take extra precautions with your food at night! The lake features multiple boat launch ramps and a rental station for skis and boats. There is also a beach with a snack stand. The beach is large enough to spread out with several tables and shelters near by. Overall, a very nice park to visit in west central Indiana!

We had a blast, we went up to go swimming as a group with a three year old and she loved it. The beach wasnt packed and there was room to spread away from other group of people. The showers were nice to rinse all the sand off of us after we were done and parking was easy to find. Snack area was great too very well priced. All of us had fun when the toddler

Really nice state park. Halloween time is especially fun. They do trick or treating at each campsite. The lake is very nice and clean as well. They have a nice beach area where the family/kids can play. They have shelters you can rent even if you aren't staying at the camp ground (which we did one Halloween). If you decide to visit my recommendation is do it during Halloween time. AMAZING!

I've been going here since I was a kid. You can rent boats, jetski, campgrounds, etc. Fairly priced and they do have an overnight boat rental. 530 to 8am . My favorite. Swimming, fishing, you name it. Its a great spot to spend some time.

Very clean and well maintained park. Beautiful lake. I was part of a mini boat gathering (home-built, trolling motor powered, 8' or less in length) and we visited some wonderful sights that larger boats might find difficult. Camp sites were large and shower house was clean! What else do you need?

We have camped in many of our Indiana State Parks & Rec Areas. This was one of the nicest all around spaces. Camp store is convenient to campgrounds, Beach was very well maintained, trails were well marked, plenty of shelters for family gathering, wonderful ramps available for boaters, boat rentals were new, naturalists were well informed and their programs were wonderful. If I had one thing I could change the sites were enough on the slant we had a bit of trouble leveling, but we did it! Lots of close fun places to explore just outside of the park area. This gem is a must try whether to boat, camp or just enjoy the beach for the day!!

This place is a great place to camp. Very kid friendly. The staff is great Very close to a town so if you forgot anything. Cave on sight pretty cool and 3 miles to lookout mountain.

This place is nice, but the water is really low and lots of things have changed. The Lake is very low, and below the spillway the water is very stagnant. There are a ton of Nats in the rocks from the Dam to the end of the rocks on The Southwest-side of the creek

We rented a pontoon boat for the day with 11 of us. We had a good time going. Had a set back when the tube liner came off while my kids were tuning. When we went back to dock station they switched it out. Good times.

It's a beautiful clean and well kept state park. We wanted to go for a swim to cool off. The sand on the beach was more like gravel and very uncomfortable to walk on. They have a boat launch, picnic areas, some covered, and a variety of camping options. We really loved the place.

This is a beautiful park about an hour or so west of Indy. There is a small beach and swimming area, lots of picnic areas and trails, and camping. The park itself is beautifully wooded and the lake is pretty. This is a great place to take the family for a day of fun (or a weekend!) Entry cost is $7 per car. I would recommend a visit here!

This park is nice for boating, camping, fishing. Campgrounds with electrical service has a good layout. There is parking for extra vehicles. Pricing is fair. There's a beach area on the lake and boat rental. Area is clean and there are some nice paved trails for walking and biking. Friendly staff at the gates. There is a park fee in addition to your stay if you're camping. Overall I found it to be a great experience.

We rented a pontoon boat with some friends and spent the day having a blast! Ryan, Morgan, Claire and Clay were very helpful and exceptionally wonderful getting us started, showing us the ins and outs, and being attentive each time we docked. It was a great experience from beginning to end!!

The lake is a big one, perfect for fishing and boats, the trails are very interesting with up and downs and a view to the lake, a.paved bicycle trail, nice campgrounds. Definitely a place for a family day or week end.

We toured through Raccoon Lake State Recreation Area our first time and found it to have a lot of great outdoor activities for everyone in your group. Lake activities boating, swimming and fishing are for starters. Picnic areas all over the landscape with pavilions. Camping is available at all levels from primitive to RV. There is a store on site and other vendors outside the park for all your barbecue needs. We chose the annual pass for all state parks prorated from $50 to $25 for 1/2 of a year. There are residential areas around the lake many for sale either on the lake or close enough for easy access. So the possibility exists to live year round at the lake, make it a summer lake home or simply visit the State park and enjoy the day or camp. Very nice gem in the Indiana State Parks system.

Primitive camping has good sites, and park and facilities were very clean and accessible. Enjoyed the fishing dock near the boat ramp. Also the camp store has you covered with what you may need supply wise. Great place to be.

They have BOAT rentals at this park, and they are very affordable !!! Everyone was very pleasant and friendly, and the boat staff was full of southern hospitality !!! This was my FIRST time driving a boat, and my first time on a boat in over 25 years... THEY DEFINITELY HELPED ME TAKE ONE OFF THE BUCKET LIST!!!

We camped for the weekend in mid October in the primitive campsites. It was a very nice experience. DNR has a very consistent presence and patrols regularly. Most patrons seemed respectful and followed the rules. Some of course didnt, but that's not a reflection on the location. The lake was gorgeous. They rent boats. They have hiking trails and fishing. they have a camp store that sells firewood and tents and your other basic camping necessities. there's a gas station just outside the park that sells anything else you might want or need. There are separate *picnic sheds*. You have to reach there in person and secure your spot on the picnic day or maybe option of calling them and reserving is also available. Not sure about it though. These wooden shed we were in had charging points, a grilling unit. The sheds in front of the *artificial beach*, obviously, get booked earlier. Take your trash bags along. I did not find any trash units near the sheds. Though you can trash in the common trash area there. There’s also a *natural lake* which is great for fishing or boating. You need to hire the available boats there if you wish to venture into the lake. Calm lake! The best part is the artificial beach! Don’t forget your swimming costumes! 👙🏊🏼‍♀️ And it started raining in the afternoon and we caught sight of a baby deer hopping through our picnic spot! Charming!

Clean, well maintained. Would be the perfect spot to camp if you travel with a boat. Beach is not to bad for swimming. There are not a ton of trails for hiking or biking but the ones that are there are good.

We first went on a Friday, in July, which probably wasn't the best idea. Almost every site was filled. Wasn't too bad, but I would have preferred more privacy.. The next time we went we camped During the week and had the whole place to ourselves. It was such an amazing time having the raccoons all swarm our site because there wasn't anyone to scare them away. Such a good experience. The last time we went on Halloween because it was in the 70s and had one person beside us, we asked if we could move but they said we couldn't do that. Could have gone without their humming generator, but still made the best out of it. Moral of the story, if your a recluse, go during the week and check before you book if you have any neighbors. 😁

If you are looking for a playground this isn't the place. They had a small play area right in the sun so my daughter couldn't even use it because it was so hot. We didn't camp but the campground looked nice and they had a small beach which was clean.

This was our second year participating in the Halloween feativities, we have more fun with the family each year. The park staff do a fantastic job of planning and organising family activities. Our camp site was perfect (but, we picked it out the year before and reserved it early).

It was my first time there today very nice place. In order to get a good place to bbq I suggest to get there early. The only reason they didn't get a 5 start was because they charge non-residents more and I think that is not a very welcoming to tourist. My parents address visiting fron California and they got charged more than I did. Anyway they have shelters, showers, and restrooms just great place.

Indiana's DNR is amazing. This place has everything! Camping, swimming, hiking, boating, and a camp store on site. They don't call it Raccoon Lake for nothing, though. Lock up any scrap of food, garbage, and medicine. They're all over at night, especially. Kudos to the friendly, helpful park employees. They have a clean, beautiful place and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

This state park includes an archery range and a trail with 3D (simulated game animals). The archery range has targets from 10 to 50 yards. The staff is friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Well, why do I love it? Probably because it's a lake and I was on a boat! It has a nice beach house concession area with does after a fun day in the water and you can rent a boat. I mean, you have got to rent a boat and get it there in the water!!

This is a great park with a nice, wide boat ramp, although it does get busy. Cecil M. Hardin Reservior (Known to most as Raccoon Lake) has the best fishing anywhere, bar none. I caught a 20lb striped bass there a couple years ago! I can't remember ever getting skunked there, even on the worst fishing day. White bass are abundant, and we catch big catfish, largemouth bass, and crappie. I caught a 5lb largemouth right before the 20lb striper, which was the biggest bass I've ever caught. (Man, that was a heck of a day!) This is my favorite place to fish.

Great state park. The beach is ok but enough room for plenty of people to still enjoy it. The campground seems to focus mainly on campers doing stuff on or at the lake. There's trails that are pretty however, they are not very long. The camping spots themselves range from alight grade to heavy grade. I had a slight grade and I had to use everything piece of wood and chalks to try to make the camper level. Still was nice and plenty of shade where I was. Plus there's plenty of nearby activities including Turkey Run.
