Reviews of Muscatatuck Park
Enjoy every time I come here. Come with family and friends and take in all of mother nature's beauty! So much history and beautiful scenic views here at muscatatuck. There are a number of trails to choose from. You can fish and hunt in designated areas. Lake side trail is wonderful. Whether it be summer, winter, fall, or spring, it's beautiful all year round. Give two thumbs up! 👍👍
Cool camp in the woods. The power and electric sites are tucked back in the trees. Mostly unlevel on a hill side, but we were still able to get level. Nice trail system off the back of the camp. Full hook up sites were packed on the weekend and the flattest spots. Shower didn't get hot, but one of the workers knew the heating element was bad and they are planning to put in a new shower house. All the workers were nice and did a good job keeping this place nice. The road in is a little tricky, the better way is a narrow neighborhood road off the backside of the park. The main road in has some windy steep sections. This was a quiet campground. They have a dump station.
Had a fun time a our beautiful county park today! We also checked out the playground and the splash pad( wasn't working) Muscatatuck Park is the most beautiful part of Jennings county! It also has a very nice campground.
You could spend days exploring the trails and different playgrounds
It's beautiful
We had a great time
Beautiful park, lots to do. I had a full hookup campsite. Power and water were fine.
This was a great park to enjoy a hike a splash in the water while avoiding the crowds as the state parks. There are plenty of open spaces, several pavilions, and some great trails to explore. Best part- no entrance fee!
Great park! Lots of facilities to use including camping. It bills itself as an extreme sports park. You can rock climb, mountain bike, and hike here. There are miles of trails. There's camping. There's a river.
It was beautiful with breathtaking scenery. Waterfall was as wonderful as advertised. Trail was clearly marked and clean. Love walking along the river. The vinegar mill is a good place to get a wonderful scenic view of the river. We just loved it all. Can't wait to see it in the summer.
The park is a great place to visit for picnics, hikes, and mountain biking. I rented the big shelter house decades ago for my wedding, my ex and I still think it was a flawless wedding despite being divorced.
Nice quite county park. The campground has 9 full hookups and the electric sights all have water. Mountain biking, hiking and rock climbing are popular in this park which was originally Indiana's 4th state park.
Finally got to hike this place in the winter and it didn't disappoint. The trails are well marked and the views are amazing.
Very nice park , very clean , beautiful!!!
Great place to visit. Been riding my bike here for about 5 years now. Still love it. My go to trail.
This place is very beautiful and easily accessible. The only reason we ran into it was because we were using it as a turn around but decided to get out and walk around. This place did not disappoint at all. It's vinegar mill quarry
Great to have bouldering in Indiana. In need of a guide book, but great for beginner to intermediate climbing. Very short approach and beautiful scenery being in the forest by the river. We'll be back again and again.
I frequent the park to let my dog run in the early mornings. It is an Extreme Sports Park where all sorts of rock climbing, inline skating and other extreme sports are welcomed. The average visitor can hike trails, play horseshoes or picnic. Children have several activity areas to choose from. The park is clean, quiet and historically significant. I adore it!
Beautiful place. We were there on Saturday afternoon and only saw a few people. Wonderful breeze down by the river.
Always something fun to do here whether it's hiking, playground with the kids or playing in the river. Great place for family fun!
What a GREAT trip down to Southern Indiana. This is an awesome park and a perfect, fun bouldering area. Rock climbing is such an exotic sport in the Hoosier State, we need more places like this!!!
Challenging hiking, but longest loop is only 3 miles. Rock formations are great for boldering and close to parking to lug landing pads. Kids were swimming in the river while we were there. This park is packed with shelters with picnic tables and recreation areas. We saw a soccer field, a baseball diamond, camping, and plenty of restrooms. It was a great little day trip from Indianapolis!
Loved this park! We went down by the river one day and on a hiking trail the next. Can't wait to visit again!
We LOVE camping here. Sites well maintained, trails are well marked.
Is close to vernon racetrack so loud on those nights.
Really good campsites, bathrooms, trails, biking trails, weather, and shade. Amazing camp!
Beautiful park. My niece got married here. It was an inside wedding. It had been raining and was too wet to be outside. The indoor facility was nice and clean. Wasn't quite large enough for the group she had but it worked.
Beautiful scenery along with easy and challenging trails!
We happened upon this park while out for an afternoon adventure. My grandkids had a blast. Unfortunately the splash pad wasn't working
My daughters wedding was held here it was beautiful clean friendly staff highly recommend it sheriff and local police patrol very nice made us feel at ease
Very special place, my brother got married there, plus I learnt to drive here again, and my ex's Daughter done girl scouts activities here!
Careful when walking this park. It's sad to think children play here and people show no regard. Just littering is awful but that is uncalled for.
A fun little park with some tiny waterfalls.
Went late summer of 2020. Camped for 2 nights. Not overly busy. Enjoyed it very much. Nice easy trail down to river. Park very clean. Will be back.
Nice park with a lot of trails. When the conditions are right you can play in the river. We really enjoy the park.
Awesome place to camp and hike. Lots of trails for walking or off road biking.
Beautiful little park <3
Great area for sledding on the snow! If you're looking for a quiet area to camp this park is the place for you!! Grounds are very well keep. The only area I see that needs attention are the bathrooms/shower houses. They are not as clean as they should be and soap/paper towels are not generally available.
Very good bouldering location for Indiana. Some of the area is a bit choss and you'll find the rock will crumble after hard rains or floods. Several routes have had their starts entirely change due to this.
This is my favorite place to take short hikes. We usually do more than one on a visit. I have noticed some of the trails are in need of some maintenance with grass growing in the trails and downed trees. Hopefully, they can get this cleared up soon. Most trails are easy and about a mile or less. Be sure to visit the barn and log cabin all the way at the end of the road.
Such a diverse park ... rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking and much more with lots of events scheduled every year
Nice little quiet park, friendly staff, bathrooms clean, park well taken care of, relaxing peaceful feelingu
The kids (3 and 5) love the playground! (I wish there were trash cans)
Beautiful and amazing park to visit. The trails and river paths here are breath taking and awesome for anyone who is outdoorsman, nature fanatic, animal lover, or photographer. The playgrounds here are great for the kids. Pretty good surrounding community as well. The fishing in the river is also descent, multiple species in the river. Camp ground here is clean and quiet. The historical buildings and surrounding areas are also nice and neat to check out. The park is pretty clean and taken care of by the county. Very nice place to visit.
Great place. At first it seems like there's not much there. Once I got parked and hit the trails it really opened up. There are lots of trails to hike on. The atmosphere is very chill. Lots of things to look at and listen to. Definitely recommend it.
Really nice park to visit. Lots of space for kids to run, great areas to have get togethers, and a nice play area. I believe there is a campground there as well that we will be going to so we'll add pictures when we visit it!
Park is maintained very nice. There is one chestnuts tree that produces nuts in autumn.
Excellent place for some local bouldering. Check out Mountain Project for details.
This park once a state park given back to the county has been well preserved. Beautiful scenery, cliff like areas with rock climbing for starters. Mild to challenging trail. Areas for extreme sports. Just an overall a great place.
Great place to have picnics ,walk, ride bikes and enjoy family time. We have the Campfield Family Reunion there every year.
The best campsite I have been ever stayed at! Cheap and close to a perfect river and amazing trails and sites. also close to town and good firewood for cheap! Stayed two weeks in a row because it was so nice. Thank you muscatatuck!
I thoroughly enjoyed this park as there are plenty of routes to choose, each with their own level of difficulty. You can walk along the slow paced river which was really nice. I THINK the trails were free because we didn't see any pay station. There is a nice campground as well with what looked like restrooms that may contain showers (not entirely sure though). It's a very well maintained trail system. I can't wait to come back!
I love the trails here. Theyre short, however, but very fine for short hikes lasting about an hour or less. The playground is amazing, make sure your children wear shoes because there are wood chips used there in the play area and your children may get splinters in their feet. Vinegar mill area is great for picnicking with your family and it has a nice bit of access to a bit of the Muscatatuck river. Also there are campgrounds there. Ive never stayed there myself but they look adequate and they do have accessable bathrooms.
Great trails that are fairly well maintained. The trails are also easy to follow with well marked trees to indicate which trail you are on. I have never ran into anyone else. It's always like you're the only ones there! Would reccomend to anyone looking for a great trail to run, hike or just wander around on.
Great park. Trails are fun, good views but not too rugged. Shelterhouse can be rented for a good price for parties or other gatherings. I haven't camped there, but I have heard the campsites are pretty nice as well. Staff is nice, and do a great job of keeping up the park. Probably biggest complaint is that the park isn't bigger!
Great place visit nature take walks a must visit place
Wow! What an experience. When we got there I wanted to explore the water turner thing but some people were on it hogging it up and calling their friends and it would have been disrespectful to interrupt them, even though they were already doing a good job at that. So then we took some pictures and went down to the creek. It was so muddy from all of the rain. I wanted to hop in some muddy puddles but my better judgment said no. So then I walked along the road to find the perfect picture spot. Standing in front of a 30 foot drop off into raging water I posed as gracefully as a ballerina and I snapped that selfie quicker than when I want to get a cookie out of the sink to eat. Then I raced back to my car and thankfully it didn’t roll away this time. So then I went on an adventure. I went geocaching! I searched and searched. I found that dang little bottle, claimed my prize and put a little trinket inside. Then I hopped back in the car and I skiddadled on out of there.
Friendly environment and staff. Have a family reunion every year for the past 25 plus years. Great campground for family events or just camping in general. Plenty of hiking trails and a few bike trails as well. Shower facilities are good and theres an outhouse down in the tent area.
This 30 minute trip to get here was well worth it. It was very peaceful. It was a Wednesday at 10a.m. in late April
This is a nice park to visit all year long. They have shelter houses for parties, a large open space to play soccer or football or whatever games u like. The campground is pretty run down, but the trails are pretty and when the river is down u can walk along the riverbed.
Nice place for recreational activities. Love camping here and running DINO!
I had an awesome time watching football at Muscatuck Park. 6 of my niece's and nephews were able to play on the playground during the game. It was a real nice set up. While our team lost big, I was still able to find some shade to sit in. Can't wait to go back for Mondays night game.
Seems like a beautiful park -- unfortunately when we visited, the trails were incredibly muddy and actually unwalkable. The trails we tried to hike didn't seem particularly well maintained, but that may have been due to the recent rain. So think before you visit if the weather has been recently bad. 😉 …
Great time camping very nice
Love the trails here. Can keep you hiking all day. The new playground is nice for the kids.
Beautiful Park. No Entry Fee.
This is a lovely wooded park. The Muscatatuck River runs along one of its borders. There are wonderful hiking trails. Bike trails. Shelter houses and picnic areas. Fields for playing soccer or baseball. Basketball goals. Rock climbing and bouldering.
There are a few playground area. My little kiddo likes it, but it really isn't that great.
Pros:
It is gorgeous
The river
Well maintained trails
Great for birthday parties or picnics
Variety of recreational activities can be done there
Free to public
Cons:
Playground needs improvements
Loved the splash pad (we didn't see it at first lol it's in the park part and you have to hit the button to get the water going fyi) it was very clean and peaceful.
Family fun for days.
This is a great place to hike and enjoy being outside! Love the history behind it also
Love living close to Muscatatuck. Its quiet, peacefull, great for large events. My brother an I enjoy walking the trails. I also love the fact that the water is clean and cold so we can refill our water bottles and continue on.
It's also a good place to start for those who have never been camping before to get a feel of what it's like to be sleeping under the stars!
Trails are really nice, and marked well. Campground is a little to open for my liking, but nice place to visit
Went here as part of the Indiana Waterfall tour. Sadly, there were no waterfalls, but that's no one's fault but nature. "See kids, this would be a great waterfall...if there was water."
No entrance fee. It's a quiet but well-used park. Lots of spaced-out picnic shelters, several play areas. There are probably bathrooms, but we couldn't find them. I found the trails to be a bit tangled and not very well marked, but thankfully, I married my navigator.
Venture to the Vinegar Mill site, even if you have to drive there. The steps will take you down to the rocky river bed, where you can wade. (Well-prepared travelers brought swim suits and floats.)
We went and had a barbecue and played basketball
This place is awesome. It a free county park with tons to offer. There are numerous trails for hiking and mountain biking. There is also a place for rock climbing and rappelling. If you want to just have a picnic there are several shelter houses with tables and grills for public use. There is also a camp ground for a small fee. I often take my dogs here to play in one of several large mowed fields. To wrap things up there is a historical aspect to the park as well.
Good everything, and things can get weird, which is cool, sometimes and depending on type if weird. Bouldering is somewhat satisfying. No roped climbing. Haven't tried mtb but the trails we hiked were lame green by mtb standards. Good for kids. We'll go back
Very nice park with lots of play area for the kids. Has several nice shelter houses and a brand new playground area and restroom building. Lots of trees and beautiful creek at vinegar mill site.
Best park I've ever seen or been to. The playground got upgraded too
Something fun to do with family or partner (: the staff was friendly and the trails and views are phenomenal, though the campgrounds would be slightly better if all the playground equipment didn't look like it was going to break the second you sat down. Would also love more activities to get involved ((:
Beautiful place to kick back or explore and enjoy the day.
Lots of options on the trails which are in wooded areas and present a fun challenge. A very beautiful park and impressively m as contained. I can't wait to return.
I was surprised at what this park has to offer. The walking trails we're beautiful. I only saw some of the park including horseshoes, baseball fields, covered areas, clean restrooms. Lots of wooded walks.
Had a great time at Emily Inmans Gender Reveal at Muscatatuck Park! It's a boy!
Love this park. Plenty to do. We have birthday parties here. The kids love the play area. It's clean. Great place for a family outing.
Great trails and if you have kids that dont like hiking there are a few playgrounds but I wouldnt highly reccomend the playgrounds
Great place to have family get-togethers. Plus, awesome trails to explore for all experience levels.
Staff was nice and friendly. The play area for kids had enough things for the kids to do. The trails was well marked.
Great clean park great view and my kids loved the splash pad and play around will go back
My husband and I love to explore new areas with day trips that are accessible from Cincinnati. This park was a wonderful find!
Very great place to have fun, great river to kayak on or even splash around in, also have great camp grounds and perfect spots for parties and picnics. Highly recommended for a great time
Great small park to camp, very quiet and friendly. Clean, great trails, soccer field, basketball goal and playground for the kids.
Nice little county park with several shelters for picnics and a small camp ground, modern restrooms in picnic area.
One of the best parks around for kids! They have done a great job over the last few years.
Great for family and plenty of hiking trails and creeks to go canoeing in. Nice quiet place to camp or just a cook out a play ground for the kids and shelter house's . Volleyball court and basketball court.
Loved it. Fun had by all
Great park, clean, well kept
Great place to walking, have family time, clean, adventurous, plenty of trails. To celebrate any occasion.
There were great trails.
Love Love Love it. Grandkids love to go there ALOT. Needs more picnic areas and needs more benches to sit and enjoy the beauty.
We have our family reunion here every year very clean safe and fun place with a whole lot to do
I would recommend anyone to camp there it is peaceful and quiet and clean had a great time can't wait to go back.
This is a great place for a day of fun and adventure. We frequently do reunions and parties at the shelter houses. There are plenty of playgrounds and trails to hike.
A relaxing and beautiful place to explore.
I really enjoy camping at the park. Quiet place, lots of trails and lots of things for the kids.
Spacious FHU RV spots in a large, grassy meadow surrounded by hardwood forest. Magnificent entry road from IN-7 w/ little waterfalls. Water/electrical and primitive campsites in forest shade. $24/night regular, 1/2 price if you go thru RPI or EA. Very good campground host lives within park and is quite diligent about keeping the place clean and quiet. Outdoor shelters available. Muscatatuck NWR 9 miles away w/ good wildlife viewing - free.
This park was very nice, clean and family oriented. There were camp sites with water and sewage access. Nice!
Awesome place for kids and dogs! Beautiful trails, and clean roads.
The best park with the best groundskeeper. Take your kids here, take your bike here, and most importantly, take your rock climbing gear here. Please clean up trash when you see it.
Enjoyed our stay. Was thinking, this could be a state park. Then I read a sign that said it was up until 1968. Not sure why it isn't now. Pretty clean, like the campground.
It's a great place for kids to play or hiking. Love the park
Clean, refreshing, rejuvenating; muscatatuck park is a well preserved piece of nature's beauty.
Muscatatuck Park is the definition of bucolic. Vinegar Mill is ideal for viewing a breath-taking view of the Muscatatuck river. The newest addition to the park, Muscatatuck Trail, is reminiscent of the quality of the Monon Trail in Broad Ripple, Indianapolis, yet provides parking near the entrance to the park for walkers and bicyclists to enjoy the entire city of North Vernon.
Great little place , the dog In I love it!
Great place to get away and have a personal moment of time. Nature and beauty that it bares.
Very nice place, a lot of trails for bikes, walking, running, or just site seeing. Plenty of shelter houses. Camping area is very nice too!!!
The trails are great. . There's some wild life spotting but never in any danger. Great for picnics or photo shooting.
The civil war reenactment was great, the biggest day was on Saturday. More people But I went on Sunday more parking. Then we went to Vernon for the home made pies Wonderful! Blackberry, Raspberry, Strawberry Rhubarb mixed, Bumble Berry is my favorite. The reenactor were camped in the Vernon courthouse lawn really neet to see. There were artisans making wooden bowls and all sorts of different wooden crafts
The blacksmith shop was open. And others. It's Vernon Sassafras Days . free sassafras tea !
Caught 1 smallmouth in the river. Nice area. Will go back when the weather warms up.
The trail by the river was very difficult because of the trees being down, the hiking trails were great.
Awesome great place to take kids
Loved the waterfall. Lots of poison ivy at the edges of the trail so watch little ones and pets.
Great park. Lots of trails. Beautiful scenery. Places to camp, for tents and for rv's. Close to town (a few milesl also for necessities also.
Nice place to have m yuh niece's bday party , would be great if the uh would have bathrooms open around the shelters

Delightful park. Always see a lot of people enjoying the many parts of this fine park!
Very nice and peaceful place to visit. Nice trails, big playground, and quit campground.
We really enjoy the trails here for hiking. It's never overly busy like Brown County State Park.
Some of the toughest trails in Indiana. Plenty of mud holes scattered about. A good place to train for races that are not as tough as this place
Great for family fun and get togethers , it's private free and so much too do u name its there. We have are family reunion every year !!

Not abad park just some people are stupid. Found used needle in campground. Peopel are trying to drive through grassy areas getting stuck.
Mountain biking trails, rock climbing opportunities, scenic trails along the river, and a nice campground with spacious sites makes this a great place to visit.
Wish the water wod have been on. It was so hot.

Beautiful park great scenery and very clean
Wonderful county park with several great hiking trails , a campground, and even an RV park. A site costs about $22 a day for water and electric. Open year round but water to campsites and shower house is turned off around November 1st. There is a freeze proof spigot available tho to fill water to haul. Staff are wonderful. If your a nature buff this is the place to be. Watch out for the deer tho.
Beautiful park, haven't done much hiking here though!
