Reviews of Lake Houston Wilderness Park
Gwen Geiser
Amazing park close to Houston with tons of outdoor adventure options available from hiking to camping, bike trails and even a creek that is open for swimming. They also have a nature center and picnic areas. We love to hike so we spend our time on the hiking trails. The trails are easy, but there are plenty of miles to get a good hike. It’s beautiful and peaceful and not overly crowded, especially on the longer trails. It’s $3 per person to enter but completely worth it as the park is very well maintained.

Took the kids for a day trip. This is a great place to hit some easy trails with bridges and boardwalks. Very well maintained with perfect picnic spots. The playground was great for after lunch and post hike. The Nature Center is a wonderful little spot for any kid. They have a room for all the different wildlife that can be found there. It was pretty interactive and the staff was super friendly and helpful. We will definitely be making more day trips, especially with Spring weather around the corner. Kids under 15 are free and adults just $3. Also, can be a little muddy in some spots around Peach Creek. Only complaint is they didn't sell magnets lol it's our souvenir of choice.

I love the shelters!! I have small children so it’s nice to camp and not worry about cars driving by our site. We bring a wagon to get our things from the car to the campsite, it’s a little extra work but it’s worth it for the safety. The nature center is fun for the kids. They love the playground and the sandbox too.

We enjoyed a day out and went for a 4 mile bike ride with kids ages 4,5,7,11,11, and 14 the trails were perfect for everyone in the group. We ended at the park, had a picnic 🧺 lunch; then headed down to the stream so the kids could splash around before heading home. This is a nice spot to escape the city. If you go just know the visitors center is closed Monday and Tuesday but they do currently have some baby gators 🐊 the kids can go see.

A pretty nice park, but the signage is not very good. We did an interior hike that was very nice - didn't see a soul. But after hiking 5 miles you don't want to struggle how to find the main parking area. Trail exits were not clearly marked. Otherwise, it was a nice park. Once the Grand Parkway is completed it will be easier to get to.
BJ Johnston
Great park! Worth the drive if you like to hike. Also the nature center is really cool with live animals and lots of kid friendly information. The folks that work there are super nice and frendly.
Dawn Nicewonder
This is one of our favorite parks!! The place is kept clean and the trails are amazing! The playground and nature center is one area the kids always ask to go to. The pebble beach area was mostly under water on our last trip, but that did not deter the kids from getting in the water knee deep!
Jennifer Wakefield
Super nice park with great trails for hiking. The playground was moderately full of happy kids. I also enjoyed meandering through the Nature Center. $3/day or $25/year.
Yiyis PP
The most wild experience, because the tent space it is inside the woods, you are able to hiking, biking and don’t forget to bring with you insect repellent specially in spring and summer seasons. Perfect for relaxing and enjoying with kiddos and family.
N Gray
SO CUTE! Very well maintained. And the nature center folks are awesome and have great programs. Very nice camping experience. Do bring some good walking shoes.
Keonna Long
Loved this beautiful scenic state park a hidden gem! The trails were just lovely lots of tree coverage to give some shade while walking in beautiful nature. I loved that as I was hiking I ran into the beautiful stream of Lake Houston and got to splash around like a kid! They even had sand for the beach effect too there was lots of people at the park but very spread out so no crowded affect at all! Helpful tip start at the Nature Center if going on trails so u do not get lost bc there are so many that loop and entertained! I cannot wait to go back for the weekend and stay at the lovely Lakeside cabins that are available! On a sidenote the only porter potty i ever used were it literally smelled like febreeze/ Fabulouso I usually hold my breath and go in and out in a flash idk what they use bit definitely is working no bad smell at all! Lol. Just thought I would add that!😅I really enjoyed the park and my Saturday hike did not want to leave at all so much fun and beauty in nature! Don't forget to check out the Nature Center Exhibits as well super educational, setup and staff very friendly and helpful throughout the park!

Wonderful A frame experience!! Stayed two nights and was very happy with our stay. Comes with electrical and water hookup, a fire pit and a nice big table. Lake is right outside your campsite. Restrooms were very clean and the park itself had so many beautiful spots. Full day of hiking around. The shower is basically a pressure washer so be ready for that but overall a wonderful experience and will be back
Kat Riedinger
$14/night tent camping plus $3/person fee.
Beautiful & clean. We tried to camp on Thanksgiving weekend, but days of rain made it impossible. We only hiked. The staff is very nice.
Michael Daniel
If you live around Northside of Houston, or Humble, Huffman, New Caney, Porter, Kingwood and looking for a decent place to go camping where you don't have to spend half your weekend driving then this is a good place to go. They make camping convenient. They have open shelters, enclosed shelters, electricity, hot showers. A good place by for a little rest and relaxation.
Sarah Page
Recently visited this place and it is a hidden gem! Beautiful trails and tons for the kids to do. Campsites are great and there are cabins and screen shelters as well. Can’t wait to come back!
Sarah Falk
Park was pretty and we had a blast playing in the creek. The horse flies got BAD and the campers around us…. they were not exactly family friendly. Packed up and came home instead. We won’t camp here again. 😕
Note - the electric and water access isn’t per site; it’s in a centrally located area - this is in the camping info, but I missed it.
Christina
Beautiful park! The hiking trails have nice, clear paths with dense overhead forestry for abundant shade. Entry fee is $3 per adult. There’s plenty of activities to check out here, including camping, fishing, hiking, etc. We took the dogs for a long hike out in the woods. It was a good time. Highly recommended to bring the family out and spend a day with beautiful mother nature. Will definitely have to return mid fall when the leave change colors.
Huey Huey
Super huge and nice park with nature reserves area. You can rent AC controlled camping unit for $125 a night. Super neat. Lots of frogs, bats at night. So different to see from the jammed pack city of houston.
Marty Ballard
This is a beautiful park. The camping areas all have very dense foliage. This makes for great shade and cooler camping (not cold!).
The only drawback is it's close-ish to the highway and at night there was a lot of noise.
Colin Mason
Well groomed trails, long and short hikes, good for walking or mountain biking, and a well done nature center
Joshua Dadswell
Great place to get away for the weekend. Not a huge hassle. Easy to navigate and some things to do without bringing a lot of your own things.
Jacob Roberson
Exceptional Park, Nice local places to eat & very quaint camping grounds. The screened the screened in A frame units were very clean and well kept. Highly recommend!
R Ll
Lovely hiking trails. Serene times while trekking the Ameritrail. Nice primitive campsites.
Sheila Traylor
Had an awesome weekend here at Lake Houston, the staff are simply outstanding! They do everything possible to make sure your experience great. Over and beyond excellent service. The park is huge, I got lost so many times LOL but it was okay. Clean, neat and all types of recreation facilities. The mosquitoes welcome you as well! They are alive and well but that's camping.
The only downside for us was we didn't like the water, it was really murky so we didn't get in. And you need water with the hot Texas heat to cool off, but other than that we had a really good time.
Daisy Denise
This place was beautiful. My Family of 5 enjoyed every bit of it!
Philip Bower
Awesome park great trails, fishing is good caught white bass and perch. Primitive camping one night, very quiet and secluded though must haul in firewood available at gate, would like to see a delivery option in the future hint hint. Great for loners or family, super friendly people at gate, very helpful, if you are looking for your first camping trip you cannot do better than here.
Chuck Fulkerson
Beautiful park. Excellent layout. Superbly maintained. Well-marked trails. Extremely clean restrooms. Wide variety of camping options. Can't beat it.
Tyler Vickers
Rode on the MTB trails. Sunday morning ride while in town. Relaxed and easy ride. Great for beginners.
Ian Eichenlaub
It's ok. Could use better restroom facilities for over night camping. The neighborhood sucks. The gunfire throughout the night kept waking me up. Other than that, the nature center was cool. There's nice picnic and playground areas. The park is about the same as other east Texas parks. I recommend day trips, only.
Melissa Tantibanchachai
Just finished a 3 day camping trip here. Our group was 3 moms and 10 kids ages 3-12. We had a blast despite being rained on. We stayed in the A frames. The staff at this place are amazing!!! They remember my kids and are so friendly to them. We have done a number of their programs and they are phenomenal. You can tell that they are very well thought out and very educational. I think my favorite so far has been the Night hike!!! Thank you Katie!!!
Steven Hernandez
Absolutely beautiful and peaceful! It can get very busy during peak times of summer but it's still the best park around! The staff in incredible and the facilities are always very clean. Bring the family out for camping, fishing, hiking, biking, kayaking, archery, and the nature center!!!
Mr. No Tengo Dinero
It’s a nice biiiiiiiigggggg park! I expected to be a 30 min hike but it ended up 4 hrs! Lol. It can go longer than that if you choose to! It’s nice that there are many beautiful nature areas here! River is flowing in the midst of the walking pathway and at the end of our hike we got to see the white beach 🏖 by the river bank! Definitely a good walk for a day! Come visit and enjoy/embrace nature! :)
Cheers 🥂
Craig Bracken
Great time here. Fished a few times, and camped in one of their A Frame. Close to Houston but feels remote. Check it out some weekend it's worth it.
Abby Wheeler
Truly a great place to connect with nature and have fun with the whole family. Hiking trails are really well kept, the nature center was a blast for the kids, and the bridges and river were a blast. We will be making the trek here more often now that we’ve experienced it and will enjoy the rest it has to offer.
Nathan Arnold
Great place to experience nature and wildlife only an hour from the city center. We spent 2 nights in an A frame with screened walls to keep the bugs out. The campsites have a picnic table and fire ring with cooking grate. Electricity in the structure with water at the site. Bathhouses are 100 feet away and are clean with hot water. Lots of hiking trails and pebble/sand beaches on Peach Creek for playing and wading. Also a nice little playground and nature center. Lake Dabney has catch and release fishing, with lots of little catfish.
If you don't want to rough it, there are cabins with beds, AC and kitchens. Campsites are $7/night, A frames are $30, and cabins are $70+. There is a $3 per adult entry fee.
Warning: they call it the wilderness park for a reason. Racoon tracks were everywhere so put your food away overnight. We also had a copperhead slither right by our campground, so use proper precautions and be aware of your surrounding.
STemp
Great place to hike and bike. Kinda a bummer you can hear the traffic on 99 from part of the park now. Their A frame modern cottages on the water are super cute! May have to look into those soon.
Armando Garza
Beautiful park, lots of work done on it with plenty of additions on the way. The cabin and trails were astonishingly clean, which is always great to see. Loads of turtles and birds hanging out, and even got to see some very healthy spotted gar at the nature center! Stargazing was especially fun because if you're lucky and the nights are clear, it's far enough away from the city to see tons of stuff in the sky. 10/10, will come back again.

Wilderness life is an amazing experience that one needs to have at least once in their lifetime. Cities are in expansion as our population grows. Let’s not worry too much about it now. There is a reachable wilderness next to your home. So, just go there and have the civilized caveman’s experience. One of the best thing in Wilde is that we are a predator for some and prey for others, so it is a good time to check the function of our adrenal gland.
This park is located in a heart of the city with access to everyone. It is a real disconnect place to enjoy the getaway.
Staffs are very friendly and work till night to ease the check-in process. Cabins are cell maintained and comfortable. You will get to the one you signed up for without regrets.
Surrounding are cleaned and trimmed to keep the guests safe and sound good. This park has trails with various distance. So, you can the appropriate one that best suited for your and climate condition.
Bee watch out for the snakes and other wildlife’s.
Nature center has lots of educational information, so visiting that place first gives you the better idea of what you are dealing with. Just scared, no worries if you stay picnic spots and socialize with our community.
One drawback that I can say is the roads. I really don not like the current condition. I mean it is a rocky road that may flatten the car tires.
The creeks have water flowing and sand beds are created for kids and adults to play. This is fun part if you are a water person.
Canopy and kayak routes are there for the water activities.
Lakes are well maintained and has bird boxes for bird watchers.
Archery gallery is there to teach beginners and other can bring their equipment to practice 🏹.
I may have missed some features in here last. But you do not miss the place. Just reserve your spot and pack your backpack and go……
Thanks
🙏
Be the best among the beast.

Love, love, LOVE it here! So much to see and do. The staff is so helpful and accommodating! I bought the yearly pass because I just love visiting so often! Definitely recommend if you want a fun place to explore with the family.
Lisa Munoz
Love this park. The people are so friendly and have great programs for all ages. Beautiful trails to walk. If you visit, please drive slow, respect the animals, and keep this wonderful place clean.
Mar Klimowicz
Beautiful gem we have in Houston. Camping cabins are so unique, we found bluebonnets by the lake, and had a blast hiking the trails with kids and nature Journaling. Nature center staff was very friendly and helpful. Cute playground by the nature center also.
Cassaundra Ann Thorne
Just did a drive thru with my love. We didn't observe much wildlife. Could have been the wrong time of day. The dogwoods were in bloom, pretty. Restrooms were barely adequate. Will go again and update this review
Jonno Norton
It's a great area to get out into the wild. Be careful if you have a nice car because the roads here are dirt and there is no paving. We have only visited once so far and it's clear there's a lot to see so we'll be back soon! There are some pretty cool cabins and glamping options here too.
Iana Borges
Wonderful place for camping.. I wasn't expecting anything of the creek, but it was really fun, my kids enjoyed it a lot. The bathrooms and showers was clean, but it's old and very hot inside, but worked for the proposal.
Mirka Mendez
Admission is only $3 per adult. This park is beautiful and has plenty of miles of trails. Can see the creek.
Camping and picnic areas. Dog friendly
Happily Ever Outside
We have camped here, day visited here. It is such an awesome place. My only negative is that you can hear cars at night which is not our favorite. We love camping and this is such a great place, clean, activities nice showers. Great place for group camping and they have shelters/pavilions to rent for large gatherings. The nature center is awesome and they have added so many new features like a playground, covered picnic area. The nature center is awesome and educational and they even have guided tours and activities that can be arranged ahead of time.
David Briggs
I really enjoyed my mini vacation in the park. Upon arrival our temperature was taken to ensure HSE, and we were greeted with smiles and information. The camp sites were newly cleared of leaves and pine needles by the park professionals with blowers and that made camp set up stress free and enjoyable. Daily, there were park associates that would come check on us, remove trash, and maintain camp site cleanliness with they're blowers.
On the nature side of the park it was simply beautiful. Nights were amazing, especially with 4 nights of full or near full moons. The creek area offers an oasis feel with clear water, cool water temp, and a great area set aside for cooking and fellowship in the shade. The bathrooms and showers were kept in great condition, clean, and maintained throughout each day.
My overall experience will have me coming back for years to come and I will suggest it every opportunity I get!
Jason Moreno
Nice job by the City of Houston taking care of this beautiful park from the previous owners. Need a quick trip but close to town. Come visit this park. Camp sites are available also. Great trails and lots of wildlife.
Mike
Stayed in Shelter #4. Live in Spring so it was a 30 minute drive away. Shelter has one two outlet electricity and has a faucet outside shelter. Shelter was good space for 5-6 people. Light switch for light was inside the shelter and outside of it. Campsite was clean. Had a table/bench outside and a firepit. Good spacing between other shelters. Creek was too the left, was "cute", great place for kids 4-10 to play in, and easily accessible. Lake was about 3 min away driving, water seemed a little low, but did catch a 10 inch catfish. Advise to future canpers: buy 4-5 bundles of firewood, 2 was good for about 5 hours. Nature center was good for kids, interesting and educational.
We'll come again. Overall, easy and simple campsite.
Rey Ochoa
Just wow... if you like trails and nature, this is the place. Its 3 bucks to get in, archery clases for 3 bucks and a hoard of other classes that are free. There's lakeside cabin you can rent for something like 125 a night. Im definitely gonna do that one of these days and when I do, im making it to Lake isabel (separate lake from the cabins) cos I almost made it but I had to turn back cos it was gonna get dark by the time I started hiking back. But gosh, it was super dope. If I could give it more stars, I would

This was my first time visiting this park. The entrance was easy to navigate. The $3 per person entry fee is more than reasonable. Many of the trail junctions are not well labeled. Make sure you understand how to read the map and can navigate against it if you decide to try some of the longer trails as it'd be easy to get turned around. Make sure to be prepared with sunscreen, bug spray, proper snacks and fluids to stay hydrated. The trails I went on were decent, but could have been better maintained. Several sections were extremely muddy so wear proper footwear for that if you plan to hike them. The facilities look really nice for a day / overnight event. The cabins overlooking Lake Dabney looked very nice. Perfect place for a family outdoorsy gathering / BBQ. Overall, a nice fairly well-maintained park.
Josh sindle
My two year old loves this place, the cabins rent at a very reasonable rate, can't wait to camp here. Park rangers seem to be on top of keeping the place clean and up to date. Definitely a goto
Cindy Howlett
Nice, quiet park. Not the same Peach creek Baptist Camp that Girl Scouts and church teens visited in the 80s. It’s a family friendly safe place.
P S
NICE PLACE, CONSIDERING IT'S A HOUSTON CITY PARK. WE HAD A GREAT TIME AND KIDS ENJOYED THEMSELVES.
Melodie Hoyle
We attended a birthday party. The space had it's own dining hall, parking, volleyball area & BBQ pits. It was great & the park itself is beautiful & full of walking trails.
Timmy Lamb
Beautiful park! There is a small Nature center, playgrounds, a fishing lake. We went camping to a small cabin called A-frame, which it’s like a sheltered camping place. Our camping tent for 4 persons fits inside.. We loved it! It was perfect! There are several A-frames at the lake, and also big cabins, and restroom area. It’s beautiful! We want to go back for spring.
D J
We stayed in Lakeside Cabin #5 for 3 days/2 nights over spring break & had a blast with our family of 6 (2, 2, 10 & 11 yr olds). The cabin was clean, well- maintained & spacious enough for 2 pack n plays to fit by the dining table & had air & heat with a full kitchen, incl microwave (bring your own everything except toilet paper & broom/dust pan). Of course we spent most of our time outside hiking, fishing (catch & release/no license needed at the lake; catch & keep wi required license in the nearby creek), playing in the creek, cooking at the campfire, playing at the playground & visiting the nature center. It has plenty of nature & wooded trails for hiking and biking. The best part is that it's not far from Houston. We will def be back! Thanks for providing great facilities; we had such a fun time!!!
Yvette Stowers Foster
I absolutely loved this place, employees are really super friendly (especially Theresa)...the management there could use some upgrading, but over all it's a beautiful place, they have great trails, overnight camping (tents and shelters), fishing...for the most part it's a wonderful experience, although occasionally you will get a scare from a man riding a red golf cart wearing a ski mask driving super fast thinking that he's some kind of Park Ranger.
But, that's the only negative I know of. Definitely worth the time, even if it's only for a picnic by the lake. 😊
Ethan Lindstrom
We stayed one night in the Magnolia group site. Each individual site in the group had a fire pit, table, and a hook for hanging up your food/garbage which was nice, and there is a larger central fire pit. It's a very nice site for a large group, with enough room for capture the flag or other games, but still some privacy at each individual site. Bathrooms and small playground are just a short walk away.
We biked some trails, visited the nature center (they have a fun scavenger hunt inside the nature center), played in the river, and made smores. There were lots of people, but it never felt crowded.
Note that you are not supposed to gather firewood here, so bring your own or you can buy at the entrance (was $5 per small bundle when we were there).
One of the staff came by to say there were a lot of snakes out, but didn't see any, though we did hear some coyotes during the night.
Amanda Rich
Beautiful park just outside of Houston! Since this is a city park we somehow never came across this little gem! Most of the trails are well shaded giving respite from the Houston heat.
Parent guide: There were a few bridges to cross over, and plenty of leisurely-lengthed paths (like 0.3 mile) that were appropriate for young families. And again, most of everything was shaded! We heard birds, saw squirrels, and a little garter snake sunbathing on a sunny trail (keep your eyes open around Lake Dabney that is a little more marshy near its banks!)
There was a peaceful-moving creek (Peach Creek) that is great to let kids of all ages play in (calf-knee height portions for young kids under 5-puddle jumper floaties still necessary), with shade for parents to sit in and had cool water to the touch. Older kids (8-12ish) were crossing a fallen trunk of a tree and were safely crossing the creek with no issue
I would not recommend stroller usage on the trails, which we considered. There are (what I consider) plenty of benches to sit and stop at for breaks with kids, but there were a roots over some of the walk paths that would make it difficult to push a stroller around. Our 3 and 5 year olds did well for about two hours without any fussing with walking and stopping at benches for little breaks. Bathroom was centrally located with locking stalls and relatively clean for a park. No changing tables available.
There was an unshaded small playground (picnic tables nearby were shaded) near the nature center. We did not camp but I did see the air conditioned cabins and they looked well-maintained and nice!
We'll be back!

This park was wonderful for you family or friend hiking. This is the park where you can enjoy your vacation.
I went there with my dad. I was unknown about this park. I went all the way from Conroe. I saw google reviews and planed to go there. I thought it was kind of zoo which is surrounded by big lake. I didn’t see any lake over there. It was good for fishing. People go there to spend their time with their family and friends. The ticket is cheap. You can do camping.
Over all, I think this park is good but you need to split plenty of time to spend there. There is small creek known as Peach Creek, which is the best attraction 😊
Brina “Pedal Pumping Princess” Candi
I love it here the campgrounds are nice and well maintained the lakes are full of fish and the creek is beautiful and a great place to take a dip. Do watch out for snakes and other wildlife September is coral snake hatching season and they love hanging out in grassy puddles to hunt small lizards and frogs. Lol I also happened to leave peanut butter bread out and we heard a deer 🦌 trying peanut butter for the first time. From the sound of it he loved it 😆

This is a beautiful, tranquil park that has quite a number of trails and spaces to hang out outdoors. There is ample parking, a number of outdoor cooking sites and great facilities. I would highly recommend a visit.
Boston Soul
I can't believe I've lived here all of these years I never knew this place existed. It is on par with Huntsville or lake Livingston as far as quality of nature and hiking trails..on the flip side there's not as much camping to be had which I see as a plus because it keeps things a little quieter and more peaceful. I was thoroughly impressed with this place and loved the peaceful trails.
Michelle Iglesias
The areas that can be rented need to be more clearly labeled as such. We had a very awkward birthday party where people were angry with us for not letting them cross through our area. There needs to be more signs explaining things.
Maxell Celestial
Beautiful place bad had a terrible experience with the staff. Was big time miss communication, My suggestion check the rules, Because if they act incorrectly for a miss understanding I can only imagine when some one does. Felt bullied and discrimination a bit. By staff and officers. I was with my 2 small daughters traveling back from our beach vacation, this place was in our route we decided to stay and check the place out. Any ways don't let my experience stop you from visiting.
kat
Great park just north of Humble/Kingwood with numerous hiking and biking trails, as well as streams, picnic areas, camping, cabins, event halls, outdoor gaming, etc. Great place for a short getaway!
Jeremy Yeakey
We started our day off hiking listening to the beautiful song birds and bugs singing there songs. Loved the seclusion and serenity of the trail. It gives you that great woodsy feeling. Got to see a Piliated Woodpecker and a humming bird. After that the hike turned into a near battle for our lives as we were swarmed for about 2 hours by a massive amount of horse flies. It was by far the most hardcore challenge we have had on a hike. Dispite the horrendous onslaught I still enjoyed myself so much on the first half of the hike that I would still come back for more, but only if it's not super humid before a rain. We were sweating profusely which is probably what attracted the swarm. There is an awesome nature center here to which is a great teaching tool for the kids.
David Duez
Hidden gem. It is a fantastic getaway. Love running here as well.
A P
Nice nature center with exhibits of local wildlife. The creek that runs through the park is great!
John Lane
I had a great hike at Lake Houston park today. I seen a Bald Eagle sitting atop one of the dead pine trees. He took off before I can get a picture. The park is beautiful plenty of trails to hike on period camping and also cabins. But get ready to pay a small entrance fee when you go to visit.
Candy Cast
It was very amazing, I jst reminiscing as when I took my boyz when they were younger, n now all grown. I absolutely love this place
Michael Piehler
Lake Houston Wilderness Park is a hidden gem, just off the beaten path. Our family absolutely loves this place: the short trial walk across the bridge to the cool peach creek splash beach and the wildlife building are worth the short trip alone, but there’s also the longer trails, cabins and camping facilities for the more adventurous! We’ve enjoyed the creek on hot Texas summer days thanks to ample tree shade, and found the best time to visit was on the off-Friday, a few days after the last rain (water’s clear and clean at that point 😉)
Chris Taylor
Been here before but have recently camped here with our Cub Scout Pack. It's a great place and the nature center was really cool! They have preserved animals in jars, furs, skulls, and live critters that your kids can enjoy and learn about. There's also a newsletter you can sign up for that includes events like guided hikes.
Kevin McCauley
Nice park considering how close to Houston it is. There are well maintained shelters and facilities. Several hiking & biking trails as well as some beaches along the river. Only stayed for one night, but could definitely make a weekend of it.
Lisa Jackson
We always love to come here. This time its no cash and they have a covid tent scanning for temp checks. 13 and under and 65 and older are free. I just don't like the check in and out times for tent/cabin rental. 3pm check in and noon the next day. If you want to stay and swim after the noon check out, you have to pay for the daily swim fee.
Christos Bletsios
Very beautiful and peaceful place. You can go with friends and family for running, walking, picnic or even camping. The AmeriTrail is great for biking(all the way to Isabell Lake). Small fee to enter ($3). Cool breeze sometimes. Open during Covid but check the website for info. Get a map. Don't forget to pick up your trash.
Moose Y
We've had several large family reunions here. Facilities are great for it and staff is very responsive. Nice place to bring your bikes to also. Watch for snakes! It's nature!
Printice White
Very nice trails and a clean restroom near the camp ground.
Jacob Dyson
A hidden place that has plenty of room to do all sorts of things! Lake Isabel is a must see.
The park spans over 5000 acres north of Lake Houston and has miles of hiking/biking trails. Daily admission per person (ages 13-64) is only $3.
The Nature Center is one of the main places to go to; there are always educational programs scheduled every weekend for kids and adults. Inside, there are displays of live snakes, turtles, fish, frogs, and even a tarantula.
Don't forget the camping! They offer many different tent and cabin options for you to enjoy. FYI: Campers and R/Vs are not allowed to stay overnight.

Our rather extensive large extended family rented Lazy Creek Cottage for 3 days - it was one of the best places we have done a large family vacay together! The kitchen is a great size not too small not too large to prepare meals for such a large group come to the refrigerator and microwave and stove sink and storage areas for your equipment the ladies restroom had two stalls plus two showers and two vanity sinks - the men's restroom had a urinal a sink and a toilet. The sleeping area the eating area and the relaxing area are all apart of this big room that has two air conditioning units to cool it off plus 3 overhead fans for light and air circulation and it had approximately 13 or 14 bunk beds, the kind you find in like a military dorm but we put them together for couples such as my husband and I or the kids slept on them singularly. The lazy Cottage can actually sleep up to 26 people and probably more of you have air mattresses overall there was plenty of room for everyone to sleep store their goods eat relax go outside whatever you wanted to do. There was a BBQ Pit, a fire pit with a huge circular seating area and also lots of nature trails in addition to a creek this women and a pond to fish in. The pond is catch-and-release but it's still a great place for the little ones to go fishing. We were very very pleased with such a getaway that was only 40 minutes out of spring it was it was faster than say going down to Galveston and you were truly out in the woods where it was quiet and peaceful and there was no Street or hustling bustling sounds we definitely give it a hundred percent thumbs up

Very nice park. Clean, quiet, and relaxing. Campsites are shared water and electric although "A" frames and cabins may be an exception to this. The dirt roads are a little narrow and only allow room for 1 car to pass but they aren't very busy (at least not during our visit.). Thought I was in the wrong area a few times because of that but the isolation adds to the charm.
Heidi Karina
Nice trails, clean park. One of my kids painted a picture of the swamp that is off to the side of one of the trails we hiked.
Kasee Leal
We love taking our kids here. They can wade in the creek, hike the trails, visit the nature center, and so much more. It's shady, clean, and not overcrowded.
Gregg Carter
It was awesome. It's not to big and they have a few trails to walk or u can drive around for a bit. I also checked out the nature center which was pretty cool also. Definitely worth checking out
Crys Arthur
Really nice park. Lots of wooded trails . Cheap entry fees. Nice place to sit and relax and also comfy cabins for rent.
Margarita Mtz
Great trails, camping, picnic. Clean restrooms, playground for kids. Dog friendly. Just FYI, the map trail states the mile length of the hike one way, not round trip. I made the mistake of thinking the Ameri trail was only 3 Miles round, when in reality, it is 3 Miles one way! Follow my insta: acrosstexastravel

Nice and quiet. Camp site are close to each other so it’s good for groups. Bathrooms and showers close to each campground. No electric by each campsite but there is water.
Miss V
Love this place, even when its pretty muddy and we have to carry everything lol. We went week if Spring Break. Only downfall was our firering wasn't cleaned out prior but I am sure the rain put alot of things on hold. Restrooms are clean, hot water in showers and it's a beautiful park. They hadn't posted and updated calendar for nature center but when we got to the nature center they did have activities I wish we had known, so make sure you stop by there first and see because website doesn't seem to get updated.
Lisha Hidalgo
Hidden gem of a park so beautiful and secluded. Sweet little creek that has a little sand beach for the kids. Nice trails. Camping and lodging is available along with little informative nature center. Love visiting this park!
Juan Sanchez
Loved my visit with my dogs.
Haven't been here in about 4 years, there was alot less construction this time around.
Visited the nature center and it's changed for the better as well.
Facilities in the park are clean and easy to find.
Yvette Guerra
Amazing place cheap on screen shelters and very peaceful loved it did a get away with my husband beautiful scenery as well very relaxing 🥰 …
Nathan Sonnier
Enjoyed our third time holding our family reunion at the park this weekend. Great time. Cabin very clean, nice. Well kept up. Thanks to Pat and Doreen, Camp hosts. They took care of our group and we're so kind and gracious. It's obvious they enjoy their position and were willing to do everything they could for us.
Melina Banuelos
Great place to camp, close to the city in case you feel camping is not what you thought it was you can always just drive back home, great trails, love the creek, Lake is juat the name so don't expect an actual lake
David Moore
I go here for the mountain bike trails. It's a great place to ride and just get away. Not many technical features, but still very fun to ride. Plenty of wildlife on the trails.
JamesPlays
Great place for a leisurely walk or a good hike. Also, a good place to take your family or pets and have a great day.
Daniel Swords
My wife and I traveled around to all of the campsites and lodges! Walked off through their amazing trails and along the creeks! We had such a great time! Its a great place to enjoy nature!!!!!
Angie Moreno
My family and I love camping and are always in the hunt for new places. We came here and had so much fun. Not much parking space but an amazing family experience.
Tanner Jasperson
Great value camping spots with built-in shelters. Didn’t even need a tent! Everything in this park was immaculately maintained from the trails and roads to the bathrooms.
There are lots of places for kids to play, and several different trails that are bike and stroller friendly.
Parisltm 21
A nice place to ride your bike, but be careful with the map they give you it is not that accurate. Check the nature center it is pretty cool and it has air conditioner.
y sheehan
They had some nice trails. The bathrooms were clean. Had a couple of nice lakes.
MEG
Loved the grounds and the amenities. The cabin was beautiful and slept 6 people. The air conditioner and 3 ceiling fans kept it near freezing! Jack and Jill full bathroom with standing shower. There are 2 full size beds and a pull out sofa. Living room and dining areas fully furnished. Kitchenette with electric stove. Screened porch with 2 rockers and another ceiling fan. A fifth fan is over the deck. Amazing!
Makayla King
I loved the water, the trails are beautiful, the nature center was informative and is wheelchair accessible. Camp sites are gorgeous and honestly I would recommend. We did 5 miles of the Ameritrail and it was beautiful, sand was a little hard to walk in but good for safety. Dog friendly, too!
szynszyl1982
Good place for family.
Juan Rodriguez
I was camping with my kids and we spent a nice beautiful weekend
Thomas Spears
We've only been here twice to date, both times from June to July of 2022. Peach Creek at it's current levels (very low) made for an enjoyable time with our toddlers. They had a blast. We have looked at the cabins from outside and the lake that is filled and current addition being dug. Good things happening here.
Reginald Simpson
Good place for nature tour and family outter
Laura Angel
I have been going here for years! I love the atmosphere and all the fun options for everyone. Hiking, kids activities, playing in the creek...we like to rent a tent site to grill with the family. Last time we were here we saw an owl right before sundown 💗 sorry for the blurry pic, it was on full zoom …

{CAMPING REVIEW} *3 Days (SOLO)Backcountry Camping*
I've been yearning for a local backcountry camp site since moving back to TX from CO, and the primitive sites at Lake Houston Wilderness Park are beyond satisfactory.
It's a short, yet significant, hike to the first two [primitive]sites (before the underground pipelines), and about another 20 mins to sites three and four.
Primitive site 3 and 4 are ideal locations for those campers leaning towards a more immersive experience. I would recommended sites 1 and 2 to any habitual car-campers interested in pushing their limits without going too deep into the woods. I was able to reach those sites within an average of 10 mins hiking from the parking lot with a 46L pack in-tow.
Overall, what a hidden gem this park is. The trails are groomed nice and tight, so you're right up on the forest as you pass through changing ecosystems. Also, I happened to notice an abundance of signage alongside the trails, so don't let the other reviewers thwart your interest. Hint: take note of the color assigned to your trail. It will be spray painted in big dots on trees within your line of site very so often. Otherwise, there should be plenty of signage (and a few benches) to guide you along the way.
Good luck
Valerie B.
We usually visit here a few times a year. It's always been a terrific experience, clean bathrooms, nice education center. I can't wait to go to the archery range here.
Jahrel Pickens
An actual creek to swim in so close to Houston! Although, surely the park can have the abandoned ac unit submerged in the Peach creek bank removed? That's disappointing.
David Roark
Great park, many miles of scenic hiking trails, camping areas and cycling. $3.00 entry fee.
Alex R
This place is so much fun and educational. Amazing experience.
Tori Evans
We went to the nature center for the pollinator hike with our 3 kids and 5 adults and it was a nice, quick stroll which our kids found interesting and not long at all. our tour guide was very patient with all of their questions and their additional information they wanted to share :) Then we walked around inside the nature center to see the creatures they've got. Kids loved the playground too. Parent warning: they have a really nice, big sand pit which the kids LOVED but just be prepared for sand in everything ⛱️
Ana De Los Santos
Enjoy coming here with my family we hiked and bike the trails..still haven't finished exploring all the trails. Especially enjoyed the posts along one trail describing the trees and the wild life in the area.
Moe Lou
I stayed at the lake front cabin. It was nicer then most motels/hotels I’ve been too. Inside a fridge, oven, 2 beds, 2 couches and a 6 person dinner table. The restroom was very clean and the cabin was very nice. It rained hard the night and we didn’t have any leaks or other issues. Rocking chairs are located on the screened patio. Remember to bring cookware and bedding. They also sell firewood at the entrance for campfires.
Ken Schwart
Nice area for beginner hikes, camping, just getting away from the everyday hustle, etc.
Heidi Cole
This is a great little retreat, really close to home. Great camping, great trails, cute little nature center. And all staff here are so helpful.
Leah Hawkins
Will definitely be coming back $3 entry fee but it’s way worth it! Loved
Darrell
Close enough to the city to warrant the drive. We were one of 2 groups there so it was really quite and peaceful. I will definitely return.
Leather Hawk
I just got home from visiting here. The location is beautiful. They upkeep the grounds with pride. Staff is very friendly. I stayed in one of the screened shelters. It was very clean and spacious. I look forward to visiting again!
Julie Bowles
Nice park but absolutely no wildlife other than at the nature center
Nick Tamborello
I come here to run & my family enjoys swimming in peach creek. It's usually never busy and I've always had a great time. The trails are well maintained, but not as wide and clear way in the back where I run too. But chances are you'll never get back that far if you're just hanging with the family. Be careful for copperheads and cottonmouths, they're hard to see in the fallen leaves. It is the forest 🤷
Angela Arriaga
We loved this place!!!!!!♥️♥️♥️ You can't beat a 3 dollar entry fee , Kids 13 and under are free. cards no no cash being accepted. Gorgeous trails. 3 different options for camping. A nature center , fishing catch n release. No license required. open from 7am to 8pm. Very clean restrooms . We will be back ASAP. shout out to Lauren in the nature center my son loves her she was so pleaseant and friendly.
Ivy Schofield
The people here were very friendly and helpful. I loved the walking trails. I'll definitely be coming back!
Alex Hailey
This is a great park right here in the city or near the city of Houston. It has plenty of trails and wonderful camping areas and picnic areas. This is a great Park to bring your family or your dog for a walk and even cook outside under one of the gazebos. This is a great Park to go exploring in the woods and enjoy an afternoon away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Bonnie Serrano
I come here all the time w my kids. The kids love it as they get to play in the creek. Entrance fee is affordable and camping price is awesome.
B S
Great hiking trails. The nature museum is small but informative. Has some live snakes, turtles, and other creatures. Several camp sites accessible. $3 entrance per person over 13.
Melisa Brewer
So peaceful, nice trails, 🎣, camping, cabins, and picnic areas. …
Steve Jansen
Well kept Park. We booked an A frame for the night. It was nice and neat inside with the options of having a power supply and water for use. The showers were well maintained with hot and cold water. The nature center is a must for little kids.
Al Hysquierdo
Six families of my wife's side including us had a 2 night stay in six different cabins. The cabins, grounds, bathrooms and separate showers were very clean and well maintained. No one had any complaints, and all had a great time. The park is close enough to easily drive to, but far enough from city traffic and noise. There is no internet available, which is just fine as younger family members were able to converse face to face and catch up on each other's lives.
I will camp here again.
Sandy AKA
Absolutely a wonderful place to visit and see nature. It is huge. Staff are nice and friendly. Eric and his team are attentive and helpful. Definitely recommend. The log cabins are nice.
Amz85
Great place for biking and hiking so much more
CL
Nice park with a brilliant Nature Center, camp ground and biking/ hiking trails.
David Williams
The park staff was friendly and helpful. The park was well maintained. I Wii be back.
Cosmin Simeria
It is a nice park where you can camp out and build a camp fire, do some bbq, have an organized vacation or get kids to be wild and free, while respecting the nature and wildlife and keep it clean.
There are also cottages for rent for those who want to stay without worrying about the tent.
Plenty of space to park almost any type of vehicle.
There is also a Nature Center where kids and parents can learn a lot about the local flora and fauna. Over the weekend, there are special classes or programs for Scouts or just for visitors to attend.
Ben Kov
Very nicecand clean park. For nature hiking,
Good trail.
Sean Bultemeier
Park was as good as expected and would plan on a dry time. Peach Creek Loop Trails were medium difficulty with one hard down and back up elevation on the south loop. Trails were mostly stone around camp sites and sand the farther out you go. I found only a few wet and muddy spots on the trials. 5 mile road is good for jogging, bike rides and horse back riding. BATHROOM and SHOWERS were basic and clean, with SHOWERS locked with the gate code. Kids will find many activities here with playground and "zoo". I did see a single deer around 7am near Park exit it got ready to run but stayed as I slowly passed by. PS Red Oak Road and Nature Center Road are connected.
James Shipley
The nature center is very informative and our scout pack always has a blast here the guided hike was very informative to help out scouts earn their achievements
Sean Krajewski
If you live in Kingwood/Humble area this is a great place to come to if you want to get away from it all. In the summer Peach Creek is so cold and it's wonderful to go walking in. I have walked the entire stream (literally in the water) and it does have a few dips shall we say but it feels amazing having the cold water run over you feet in the hot summer months.
Richard Smith
The group camping site was so much more than I had expected. Big covered pavilion, plenty of camping space, several picnic tables, a good sized fire ring with bench seating around it and well spaced. Great hiking trails that are well done decently marked and if not the trail map is excellent. The cabins looked closer to small homes than cabins and would be great for those not into camping. You don't even realize your just a few miles from the big city of houston.
B K
Cabins and shelters are nice. Bathrooms and showers were clean. Staff was super helpful.
Had one big issue: locals in the area were caught using the showers to cheat and a big fight erupted. It was as bad as Jerry Springer.
We called the staff and a security cart came and kicked them out, thank you.
I know there’s not much the staff can do about paying guests entering the park, but it makes me reluctant to return with my family.
Edit: That was one issue out of 10+ visits. The staff is always great.
Joan Smith
We choose this park for our group camping event because it is close to town so people can attend events even if they don't stay overnight. The park is beautiful, clean, staff has been friendly, accommodating, efficient. Even the creek is wonderful with clear water and sandy bottom. The kids had a blast swinging from the ropes. The only negative thing I can say is I wish I had known about this park long ago.
Meshlee Simpson
Beautiful quite little park that you might miss if you drive too fast. Great trails and campsites. Nice new cabins with screened porches and concrete driveways. Nature center , showers and nice playground. Nice gem off busy 1485. Can't wait to go back and book a cabin.
Jade Dowden
I love this place!! My dad used to live right by here. So you can imagine how often we visit this place.
The fishing is only good in the stock Pond. The swimming whole is lots of fun for the kids. They also have sooo many hiking and biking trails too.
I highly recommend giving this beautiful place a chance. It is fun for your whole family, and the do have playgrounds.
Thomas Taylor
It's a nice park! But I don't agree with how they go out of there way to get more money everything I goto renew things.....
Homer Hernandez
Great camping spot with very clean restrooms
Phillip Beaver
Beautiful place went fishing and had a good time
Laura Lane
It was a little rainy the day that we were here. Nine the less we had a nice time and enjoyed the park.
Juan Gonzales
If you're looking for a mini escape from the busy world around us. This is the perfect spot. Practically located in our backyard. They have a lake, streams, and trails, what more could you ask for without leaving the state. Also it is very well kept. We'll definitely be returning.
"If you don't know, now you know "

So close to Houston and so peaceful. Plenty of hiking trails. Very clean and neat bathrooms. This is the only City of Houston park that offers camping, mostly tent, cabins and A-frames. Just two RV sites, both with full hookups
Nadine Pawlik
Love this park! Hiking/biking trails are great! Has a few really nice ponds. Get to hot we jump into the creek to cool off! I gave it 4 stars because the last few times I’ve been we have been attacked by swarms of horse flies!!! And they BITE, drew blood! I have not been too down the trails for fear of the horse flies!! When you ride your bike they chase you and bite you! Hoping they do something to get rid of them! I’d love to go back when they get the horse flies under control! I’ve sprayed myself with bug spray, added flickering ribbons to my outfit and attached them to my bike. They still chase me and bite me!
Barbra Campbell
Excellent trails, a peaceful lake, and fun by the creek.
Libby Noble
We love this park! Lots to see and do.
Matthew P
Hot showers, clean restrooms, A-Frames have electricity. Great park.
Martin Skoda
A beautiful place! I came here for a longer distance mountain bike ride (15 miles). Enjoyed the Ameri Trail loop to Lake Isabel and then back along the also scenic fire road. The Peach Creek trails (north and south) are also fun intermediate trails. It looks like the camping is really great here too - lots of options.
Marlon Aldaba
We camped here for 2 nights. Very affordable for a group camping.
Topaz San Felipe
Fabulous fun and good learning. This staff is very willing to answer questions and have the patience of saints.
Hardworking and caring a real passion for nature and critters.
There are plenty of activities and group lessons/experiences.
Parking is ridiculously cheap
Camping and archery is an option
Volunteering is a possibility as well.
Go enjoy yourself.
Judah Queen
Overall nice park, not secluded enough for my taste, lots of trails, and onsite cabins, didn't see any wildlife on my ride through, not enough attractions to make me want to rent a cabin though... but they are still building, so hopefully they can attract more wildlife.
Matthew Peoples
Mr Lopez (security) is an awesome man. Im glad we had the pleasure of meeting him.Had a great time with my family. Cabin temperatures during our stay with all the fans on day or night was comfortable. Thanks again to Mr Lopez God bless you brother.
Michael Grimes
This place is amazing. I never knew it was there and I have been here most my life. They have neat cabins that you can rent and several event centers for family gatherings or business meetings. They come with full kitchens and freezers and the kids have playgrounds and volleyball, basketball court and badminton. I will definitely come back again really soon.
Ana Flores
We loved Lobo & Luna they enjoyed it
Ruiz Sterling
Great for kids when it's hot because the creek water is lowand narrow so it's easy to watch them. Also its sand so they get the beach feel.
Holly Meyer
This park has great campsites with clean, simple covered camping - so you can still feel like you are 'roughing it'. There are also toilet and shower facilities for those who can't do without those comforts!
Monica Byers
The screened shelters and bathroom/showers are very clean. The A frame shelters are just a shell, but roomy enough for an air bed and the inside framing is strong to hold up a hammock. There's good lighting inside and out, and each site has it's own fire pit, water, and picnic table. The full front and back walls are screened top to bottom for good air flow, but I suggest you bring a fan. I hung mine up. I would stay in an A frame again. But next time I want to try staying in the furnished cabins.
Briana James
Stayed at the Chiquapin group site which is nice. The only problem is a real bathroom with showers is a drive or not an immediate walking distance unless you want the portal potty. The nature center was great and accommodating to groups. The trails are in great condition.
Nadia P
We've been coming here for years. It's one of the best spots for a quick camping get away because it's fairly close to town. Membership cost is reasonable. They have nice bathrooms with hot showers. Lots of hiking trails and some great spots to picnic and play or wade in the creek. We always try to bring our pets.
David Boudreaux
Too flat for me. I feel like you get better views if you have hills and mountains.
Kim Salazar
Nice park. Creek was clean, water was cool. It was the perfect depth for my grandkids. Water shoes are definitely needed as there was alot of rocks in the water. Didn't walk any trails so can't say anything about those.
Cynthia Salguero
It was pretty nice 👌 and had alot of fun …
Gala Bell
My family and I will camp here so since I'd never visited I went to check out the campsites. I love this place. The campsites have a water trough and fire rings on each site. The restrooms aren't too far and the park is a nice add. I am excited for my camping visit. UPDATE: We camped here overnight in December and it was COLD and wet! We wanted cold but had to endure wet. The park was very lively near midnight, other campers. Since it is very near the highway, the noise was a bit much. I really liked the park but being too close to the highway and enduring the sounds of jag-racing around 2 am diminished our wilderness experience. We will not camp here in the future.
Terry Alcorn
It was great!!
Only reason for 4 stars is because it seems the majority of the people at the beach area are leaving many empty glass bottles of Modelo beer and trash.
Glass containers and beer are not allowed.

Come here often to hike and it's a great place
Rachel Spurlock
Beautiful park. Easy hikes and good for large groups.
Meshau Roth
Really beautiful place lots of stuff to do if you're ready to get outside so many trails good to go during the day or for a whole weekend
Jacob Eacalona
This place these prices sometimes there is a lot of people other times it’s like a peaceful secluded place to hang out. It’s hit or miss fun trails to walk to have a picnic barbecue a little bit of fishing.
Christine Courteau
Absolutely lovely. Stayed in the forest cottage over memorial day weekend. Area was amazing. Saw multiple deer during the weekend! Be aware, there is a trail that runs through this campsite, so you might have unexpected visitors surprise you.
Valerie Brannon
This park is a real jewel! The park staff have done a fine job with upkeep and regular maintenance and, as a result, the facilities and grounds are clean. We enjoyed biking on the trails today!
Supweeb Games
Awesome trails and amazing and very informative staff that are very friendly. Today we stranded the very first night hike and it was amazing! Entrance fee is 3 dollars and you can come in and out as you please. The cabin area is very well kept and beautiful at night. Come by and visit and take mature nature as it is intended!
Justin Crapps
Had a great time here during our visit. The nature center was well taken care of and the staff was very friendly. They had many snakes, turtles, and other creatures. The attendant took out an albino corn snake to let my and several other kids see what a snake feels like.
After the nature center we drove around the park and did some hiking. We took a nice hike along the creek where there is a long walking bridge you can cross. My kids really enjoyed the bridge.
We also looked at the primitive and A frame campsites. Both were well taken care of and in good shape. The A frame sites are basically primitive but with a A frame structure that serves as a permanent tent. Would be a great option if you want to give your family a primitive camping experience but didn’t want to bother with setting up and maintaining a tent for your stay.
There are a couple of good backpacking sites that would only be about a 1 mile hike in and out. Could be a great place for a first easy backpacking trip.
J Reyna
This place has had such an awesome face lift since Houston took it over: beautiful park and a staff to match it!
Ruben Santos
I can’t believe this place has been hiding so well from me for this long. This park is everything I’ve been looking for and I have finally found it. You’re able to plan trips for just about anyone from small walks with children and dogs to 15 plus miles if you plan it right. I went with my girlfriend on a 8.6 mile hike and made lunch on the trail. It was just barely outside of Houston yet it felt like we were in the middle of nowhere which was an amazing feeling. The park is beautiful and I can definitely say it’s my favorite hiking find so far.
Michael Brzezinski
Great park. Excellent facilities and kind staff!
Erick Valdez
Wow I love this place we rented an A Fram tent for the night to hang out and swim. They have other better rentals that are better than the one I stayed in. Would recommend for anyone that wants a night out to disconnect this is the place!!
Angel Leonard
Such a great place to get away with family and friends they have a museum as well I brought my two-year-old daughter and she loved it they also have a scavenger hunt and it's all free and good to know the history of new caney
Beverly Horner-Reynolds
My family and I have camped here, hiked here, and biked here - great staff! The nature staff is top notch! That is, they allowed my boys to hold snakes and feed animals as appropriate to your age group.
The knowledge that the Nature Center staff had while on hikes kept us safe, told us what was safe to eat, pointed out wildlife and animals, and were very friendly.
If you are seeking a family-friendly place that is full of natural surroundings, I highly recommend Lake Houston Wilderness Park!
During the COVID-19 pandemic, they ensured any visitor was safe, all were masked, protocols were followed, and common places were cleaned with regularity.
The playset areas were blocked off to keep children, kids, groups as safe as possible. They are well-trained for both small and large groups, scout troops, Church groups, and much, much more.
My family and I have held picnics and made many memories to last a life time. Check out the nature paths, birds, flowers, waters, and more.
What activities have you done at Lake Houston Wilderness Park?
Despite nearby traffic and construction, this remains a place that we will go out of our way to visit – and I know you will too.
Christina O'Brien
Great place to camp with kids. Clean, quiet, spacious
Stephanie
Nice, family friendly park, lots of wild life! Always a good time!
Tiffany Stallings
The bathroom facilities were very clean. The camping areas were very big and clean.
Leeanne Taylor
Trails could be marked better. Very well maintained otherwise. Visitor center was great.
David Barrack
Fantastic get away from the city with new spacious cabins for rent
Marcelina Rodriguez Fermin
Family friendly, great place to camp.
T C
Clean and well taken care of. We went to have a picnic, spend the day exploring and be out in the environment. I did enjoy the exploration and I liked the fact that there were hand washing stations and restrooms throughout. The lakeview from the cabins was peaceful and amazing. There's a little creek with a sandy "beach front" for the kids/family on the hot, summer days - but keep in mind; this IS a park where wildlife lives so caution and care should be exercised.
It's a very enjoyable experience and definitely a place to go if you just want to unplug from the everyday grind.
Ryan Efaw
Great trails for hiking and trail running! Tent camping isn't very crowded and the cabins look very nice. The bathrooms are impressively clean. Peach Creek is great to cool off in during the heat of the day. The soil is pretty sandy in places, so bring a broom/brush to help cleaning off.
Price Family
For only $3, you can enter a lovely nature park. You can see the pond with the pier. There are lovely shelters and cabins that you can rent. The nature center is great! I've stayed overnight with primitive camping. Be sure to have your supplies! There is a beautiful bridge over the creek where kids can swing on a rope from a tree and jump into the creek. Bring a bike or hike. Fish or just relax. Find senernity.
Joe Bianchessi
Very nice wilderness trip I enjoyed myself and the long trails of Lake Houston Wilderness
Grace Dewald
I love this park. We have stayed in hike-in campsite 1 twice and loved it both times. It is not more then a half mile but you get the feeling your in the middle of nowhere. The trails here are awesome and the park is well maintained. They also have lots of groupsites, cabins, fishing, and educational programs. It it is well worth the 3 dolllar entrance fee!!
Lauren Rodriguez
Covered shelter was affordable and spacious.
We enjoyed our stay and would gladly return. The shower heads were a little intense for our tiny humans, but over all the park was very well maintained.
Adriana Hernandez
I liked the entrance when arriving to the park looked really cool from the outside when going inside to drive up. Looked very interesting really to explore the park was nice to be at for the first time.
Ralph Robinson
The sir is contaminated with similar and odd looking people. This is truly the area that was decided to be contained in a popular park that was enjoyed and was an wnlighted lace be to be, thanks for the pleasure of going even though the air was to crowded.
Daniel Gildersleeve
Nice wilderness park to explore with children, including overnight camping, fishing, hiking, playground, picnic areas, and a nature center. Needs more bathrooms for the group camp sites.
Meddicate
This place is amazing. We had lots of fun here with the crazy scenery and animals. Great place to bring your pets. Camping grounds and lakes for fishing. There is lots of forestation and trails for you to walk and bike. It is a great experience for all of us.
Paz Marisol Bravo
Loved it!!! Absolutely beautiful!! Can't wait to be back! 🥰 …
ggFranja
Great for small children and close to Houston. The Peach creek is shallow, for a grown up the deepest might be mid chest high. We have also stayed in the A frames in the past and are great for a camping experience.
Robert Kessler
Went on a cub scout camp out. Fabulous. Clean restrooms and showers. Well monitored. Felt absolutely safe. Be aware that turning left out of the park can get very hairy with all the traffic. And a quick run to New Caney for supplies can put you in some nasty traffic on the way back. Hopefully opening of 99 will reduce the traffic.
Adam “Coker Cola” Coker
Great family spot! Drama free! Showers! Park (the park is small though) Camping! Nature Center! Fishing! Creek with beach style hangout spout and good size deck. Over looking the creek, which is used for parties! Also different size cabins you can rent! Overall is a great place to get some family time away from home! And another thing, the staff is nice also!

Love nature so by that yall already have a idea what I'm gonna said about this place is beautiful to spend a family weekend ❤️ here
Derek Rowe
Great group site for cub scout packs. I wish there were more primitive sites for backpackers. The sites they have are small. I haven't called in the front country area which might change this to a five star.
C. Go
The park was beautiful. Lots of large trees and wildlife all around. There was a lot of water in the creek
There are several parking lots around the bathrooms and play ground.
Bathrooms were small and older. They were pretty clean though and we saw no bugs. That is allways a plus!
Nayeem Khalid
Excellent! Pure nature, great place hike.
Ross Rants
Nice clean park good place for the day and very close to home
Elijah Salandanan
I camped here about a year ago. I can't wait to go back. I recommend this as a place to camp if you're just learning to camp or need to get your family out in to the wilderness. The camp isn't too far from civilization if you happen to feel uncomfortable. The camping grounds are not crowded and well spaced. If you end up near their drainage you'll need bug spray. All of their hiking trails are easy and fun. This is a great place for easy nature adventures. If you're interested in starting camping in Houston this should be your go to for basic training!
Erin Lachance
Friendly staff and so much to explore I was really impressed on this visit. I learned they offer classes for only a few dollars a person and they provide materials. Awesome! My kids are going to do an archery lesson soon.
PRKristyna Torres-Cruz
Beautiful park with some great trails and a clean bathroom. Love that dogs are allowed and the nature center is super cute and educational.
Rebekah Mansker
Great place to take your family or have a great event to have your company build relationships. Homeschoolers will also be happy to know there are many things there for your children be educated at the nature center.
Michael Peterson
This park is very well maintained and a beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors. The bike trails are a lot of fun too despite a few spots on the Ameri-Trail that are so sandy I had to get off and push my bike through. I'll definitely go back.
frank
Very nice park, but watch out for copperheads!
P G
Great place to camp it has showers creeks lots of camping area and for $3 per person it's worth it
Eric & Emily Orellana
Loved the hiking trails! Nice, wide trails that take you through a variety of foliage. We hiked the Ameritrail out to Lake Isabel and it was beautiful! The only issue we had were some irritable deer flies, definitely take lots of bug spray to reapply.
Ricky Ramirez
Great state park. Many biking/hiking/walking/horseback-riding trails, fishing spots, lake fun for kids to get their feet wet literally or to even go canoeing. Dinner halls for rent, primitive tent locations for rent, non-primitive locations available also and cabins that can hold up to 6 people (no pets allowed in the cabin rentals however).
My sister and my brother-in-law actually held their wedding banquet at one of these dinner halls and rented a cabin for the weekend afterward. The dinner hall was nice and spacious enough for a family and friends gathering to celebrate the special occasion, with plenty of space outside for overflow.
The hiking trails I will say do have wildlife of course. Deers, hares, squirrels, and... venomous snakes... Walked right by a young copperhead without noticing it at first. But I was able to identify it thanks to the educational boards they have in place throughout the park although it's not enough signs like that throughout, in my opinion. My daughter and wife are terrified of snakes (daughter especially) but they walked one of the wildest trails out in the back of the park courageously! - which is where I saw the young copperhead.
If you take the more populated trails though, that would be way safer I think.
Great park otherwise!!! We all 5 thoroughly enjoyed it and won't speak for the kids but my wife and I are in love with it and I'm sure our kids are at least very fond of it too. My daughter got to drive throughout there and she enjoyed driving through the peaceful rock roads with the walls of trees surrounding us...
Take your family there or yourself there and explore! Plenty to explore there!
Patricia Anderson
Great walking paths..fun place
Scott Spicer
Awesome place for casual hikes or walks through the trees. We did a quick 2 mile hike and it was easy to maneuver the trails since they give you a map at the entrance. For the most part there's no litter and the more public places are well maintained.
Edward Johnson
When we went, it had rained previously, so there was a lot of mud. We had our 2 small dogs and saw many other families with their dogs out walking. We will definitely be going back and plan to stay over night. Very clean areas and lots of trails.
Frankie Mo. HD
I spent the night there from Wednesday to Thursday. The tent camp site I arrived to was not cleaned out prior to arrival. The previous occupant had to move from tent site 6 to site 1 due to location of the shared power poles there. Moved away the debris and previous campers' belongings and enjoyed a night and day of exploration. Noteworthy are the restroom and shower facilities that seemed to be cleaned at least daily if not more often. They were clean in a sealed concrete building with ventilation systems and electricity. The floors were clean, what appeared to be sealed concrete. There was adequate soap in the dispensers and the toilet paper was thick as compared to typical toilet paper in public restrooms. The camp has screened in shelter sites too in the case you don't want to bother setting up a tent. Furthermore they offer cabins on the lake that have air conditioning and indoor plumbing. I like tent camping, but I want to try their other rooms/cabins on my next trip to make the experience a little easier. Bring a bicycle to make scooting around easier. Lots of roads to bike and trails to hike.
Yael Y
Beautiful reservoir! We enjoyed relaxing by the lake and can't wait to come back there again.
Rachelann Conner
Great park we have been going to for 30 years, dating back to when it was a State Park. Great campsites, great trails, great nature center, always clean and well maintained. The water is crystal clear and teeming with fish. If you are up for a hike or bike, Lake Isabel is well worth the voyage!
Razor's Armory (Razor's Armory)
Found out about this hidden place just 30 minutes from the house. Took the family and a friend's family for the weekend. It's a great place to camp quiet and clean and in the middle of the woods. Lots of wildlife all around and miles and miles of hiking trails. I think we did over 7 miles of hiking on Saturday. It is well worth the trip and the prices are very reasonable.
Maria Fernanda Kelley
Great place for biking. Several trials on the park.
Jason Harper
Recently we decided to go meet up with some family there to walk the trails. Come to find out it is a really beautiful park and there is a river that runs thru it. Haven't seen the campgrounds but I'm betting they are just as nice. I would totally recommend this to anyone wanting to get a way from the normal everyday rush of life or just get back in touch with nature.
Candace Gaytan
This is an awesome place to visit. Despite the huge mosquitoes attacking us it's a pretty cool experience. I can't wait to actually be able to go camping there. Must go!!!
Chris Gaulding
I love the park, well laid out, good day use and good overnight camping as well. The creek is good for kayaking and swimming...BUT don't go on the weekend. This place is more and more popular and crowded. Even people with portable speakers blasting music. This seems to be the case at most campgrounds these days. I need to bring my guitar amp everywhere and blast thrash metal, maybe people would begin to understand we all have different tastes you are not doing me a favor playing your music louf
Amy Coker
We came for the weekend and really enjoyed ourselves. We took 7 kids and never were they bored! The nature center is really interactive with touch screen learning games ECT. The swim area is perfect for kids small to big with 2 rope swings and A tire swing. A couple complaints: you can't gather fire wood but they sell it for $20 a bundle😤 security doesn't have keys to the restrooms and I guess kids locked all but 1 shower and there was no way to unlock it until morning!
T S
This park is just perfect for a getaway close to the city! We took the kids, rented an A frame campsite and kayaked both the small Dabney lake as well as the Peach and Caney creek! We witnessed deer and numerous other animals in the area. The site was clean and the showers were hot. Also the nature center was a great place for the kids to see various snakes and local wildlife. The staff was friendly and very accomodating to help when we arrived just 20 min after hours. No problem at all. This is the best place around and we will absolutely be back! Truly a hidden gem!
Maria Garcia
Wonderful place to hike and the fishing was amazing!!!
Brandi Bourne
The staff was very friendly, especially our friend on the golf cart! We camped in a screen shelter and it was very nice to camp in. The cabins are also very nice. Plenty of things to see along the trails and a few places to fish and swim. This park has it all! :)
Jay Olson
Wonderful little gem of a park so close to town. Great spot on a creek, several nice park areas, and great camping facilities. Everyone working here is super nice and very helpful. We've been a couple of times camping with the scouts and really enjoyed it both times!
M Vega
All I have to say is. It was absolutely beautiful.
Jacquetta Hardamon
Literally the wilderness. Tried to kayak the river but the water isn't deep at all and I kept getting stuck. Other then that. It's a n8ce place to take the family
Yolanda F
Wonderful place for camping close to the city. Beautiful and peaceful. Accessible friendly
Jennifer Harden
Lots of trails and close to Houston for a quick get away. We stayed in the cabins by the lake and they are clean and quiet.
Mikey Royder
Very large and very cool. Be prepared to walk or bike wherever you go. Parking is pretty centralized, but the park is huge. There are campsites a few miles from the parking and if you want primitive, you get it here. I love it!
Slim Shady
Beautiful park, friendly staff.
Shinoratto (shinoratto)
This place was awesome. The landscape was nice, they had fun activities, the creek was gorgeous, and they had like 50 trails. Even though I had a good time there are mainly one con. THERE WERE MOSQUITOES EVERYWHERE! I have like 1 thousand bites. Besides that this place is furthermore, amazing.
Texasroclimber Stone
The park and the facility is AWESOME.
We spent the night in the shelters, across from the big Pavilion. Lights out at 10, at 11 we contacted security because they were being Extremely Loud. Security visited them, five minutes later they were loud again, at midnight we call security again. They visited again and then security left for the night. At which time they got loud again. Until about 1:30 in the morning.
Kaci Juge
Pretty clean trails. A little mucky, but not too bad where we went, which was part of the Ameritrail, and it had rained lot the week prior. Met a park maintenance man clearing a fallen tree blocking the path, and he was nice. I do wish the park staff would use electric instead of combustion engines for the golf carts. I can understand the maintenance vehicle on trails, but even on the paved paths, the smell of gas/diesel engine exhaust we noticeable multiple times. Detracted from the experience a bit, but not worth not coming back over. We plan to come back for primitive camping.
Firewood at front office, $5 a bundle, decent amount. We bought $15 worth. Kept us warm several hours with a little leftover for morning.
Michael Huff
Very enjoyable park to visit. My family loves going there, whether it is taking pictures or hanging out in the creek, we typically have a fun time there.
MiskimVJ PlantBasedApproach
Nature at it best, quite, peaceful, beautiful cabins to relax.
Tracey Barnes
Wonderful bike & hike trails, ponds & creeks for fishing catch & release, but fun for the novice, or kids. Spectacular cottages pond side, wild mustang grapes, morning glories and so much more. Bridges over the creeks with sandy beaches. Primative campsites, clean facilities, water with electricity. Perfect cool breeze a modest $3.00 charge per person to gain access. On a scale of 1 being lowest to 10 being highest they score a 10. I'm sure you would agree.
ROSSY G.
Nice people, clean and quiet place,I love it for the kiddos!
Raymond Scheel (Ray)
Found out after getting here that this was a former Girl Scout camp, which explained how there were so many facilities and developed space. Several organized activities every weekend you can RSVP for with a very low ($2-3) suggested donation. Multiple old dining halls can be rented for events, tent camping areas are roomy, with a fire ring with grill and adjoining bench, picnic table, and lantern pole. Large shared pavilion and handwashing station at each tent loop. Bathrooms kept clean with separate individual showers in a good setup for getting kids run through.
Stefanie Walker
The grounds and facilities are well cared for. There is a small educational nature center that our kids loved and the staff was very friendly. They offer classes and guided hikes with talks through out the week.
Alisa Nelson
I LOVED this park! It is so beautiful! There are a lot of nice trees, so good shade. I also loved the nature center - don't forget to bring a mask so you can go inside and see their snakes, frogs, fish, and more! Staff was super friendly and bathrooms are open.
There are ticks in this area (as well as some venomous snakes); don't let that stop you from enjoying the beautiful area, but shower and check yourself over when you get home. And ask at the nature center if you have any questions about the local wildlife!
Coldcupofjoe
Rode the 5 mile trail to lake Isabel. Was a fun ride. Nice park, plenty of trails
Josh B
This place is great to take the family or just yourself if you prefer that either way plenty of trails to pick from also you can go swimming, fishing you can also bring your dogs or horse plenty of places they have plaques that give info on the local plants, trees and wildlife only cost you 6 dollars per person 13 and older give it a shot you won't regret it just don't forget to bring some off 🦟 happy trails.
Samantha Caldwell
It is very family friendly, and super clean. I love the fact you don't gotta really worry about broken beer glass by the swimming area. The only reason not 5 star is because it could use more play areas or a little learning center for kids.
Thomas Shoemaker
Plenty of camping options. Lots of hiking trails.
Chuck
Do not let the name fool you, there is really no lake. Extensive trail system exists and creeks as well. The roads are rocks laid through a forest basically. The facilities were clean and BBQ grills and tables were also operational. The park does not have the Texas state park consistency of service doing my day stay here. Still fun for the day.
DENISE STARR
Love it we are out here all the time in Joy
Evangelina Alejandro
The cabins are fabulous!!! My 16 yr old and 20 yr old loved the vacation here. They went fishing, made smores, had a cookout and visited the Nature Center! Will return and stay more days!
hugh benson
Nice nice place. Peaceful, relaxing. Took a picnic there and a drive through the park.
Not expensive.
Neat cabins for rent I may try sometime. Creek looks good for fishing but didn't try it yet.
Rhiana Lopez (Rhiana L)
It was beautiful, nestled in the trees!! A small drive from south Houston, I made it in about 40 mins and was very pleasantly surprised! A good amount of trails to explore, and awesome primitive camping. There are even cabins and group camping areas for families and big groups. I'm going back to camp here soon!
Kutrenia Gasaway
Our 50 Plus Crew had a blast Camping this weekend. 2nd year to Camp here, every year gets better and better. I actually slept out doors
Kris Pate
A decent place to enjoy nature. Don't be mislead by the name, the park is not on lake houston, but on a creek that dumps into the lake. The launch area for canoes and kayaks are a joke. I did not see a ramp of any kind. A small hike to the water through some trees and a sandy beach area with make it difficult for anyone carrying canoes to the water. Renting a shelter will result in you parking down the road and carrying your gear to the shelter. Closet restrooms to the shelters are port-a-cans next to the parking area. However, scenery is nice and with a swimming area for the kids and trails to hike, it is a nice place to visit and enjoy a weekend.
claudia garcia
Beautiful park, we only went for the day but would love to camping. Clean restrooms and lots of trails
Scott Bomer
Clean. Friendly, helpful staff. There was a group playing music all night so loudly that we couldn't sleep. After three repeated calls to security, the group finally turned it down. Also, water and electricity is limited to group sites, and no extension cords are allowed to be used in tents. That was unclear when I made the reservation.
Michele Reinhardt
Beautiful place to hike.
Anthony Lipari
Great place to hike with kids for the day. The trails were improved a little bit recently. There ate nice cabins you can rent for family gatherings as well.
Terry Cook
Very nice center with good information. Good hiking trails, with no elevation. Easy.
David Dushman
Used to be a State park but is now a city park there is a $3 per person entry fee. Camping is allowed in certain areas They have a nature center which is pretty good for children with some interactive displays, snake and fish exhibits a couple of trails through the woods for those that wish to have enjoy walking
cece Jimenez
This place is amazing, specially for family picnic and have a walk with kids ❤
Georgia Bond
We rented 3 of the Lake Cabins for a group of friends retreat. It rained all weekend and it was marvelous fun sitting inside enjoying the company and the food. They are clean and well maintained. We loved it.
Trulee Artieda
Wonderful place to go with family. They have log cabins and 2 RV friendly sites.
Hi Li
Near Houston will wilderness for quick get away.
L D
Excellent park for all around enjoyment. Public use picnic areas, bathrooms, Nature Center, and hiking trails! Very clean and family friendly!!
Ben & Victoria Naglieri
We come here every year in the spring and thoroughly enjoy it! It can get crowded at times when there are large events taking place, but the facilities have been good for the past several years since the park was taken over by the City of Houston. A great place to see nature!
Gideon Moriconi
Clean. Nice hiking. 3 bucks each. Trails were a little muddy but it was tranquil. Some really nice views. A great place to hike a few hours without having to drive out to SHNF.
Manolo Ko
Great place to play in nature, have a picnic, throw a party or just take a hike.
There are cabins for people to spend the night. A lake, bathrooms and parking space.
Very nice and I would recommend it to spend time surrounded by nature.
Richard Alexander
Inexpensive. Very clean and well kept. Rental cabins. Camping areas. Plenty of parking and hike/bike trails. Oh...my...GOSH do they have trails. It's a good thing the maps are free with admission.
Brion Fitzgerald
Large area in a good location. Campsite was a little small for 2 tents, but had plenty of other areas to explore. TONS of geocaches in the park, if you are into that.
Holly Feray
The park is miles of green. Bird noises take flight from all around. Most of the paths were sodden when we were there. The lady at the gate recommend the only trail that was passable. Lovely!
Eboni M
Lake Houston Wilderness Park is a wonderful escape from the city and within an hour drive of Houston.
We camped here for 3 days and 2 nights. The lady at the gate was friendly, the firewood was dry, and the park itself was beautiful.
Plenty of wooded trails for hiking, and an abundance of wildlife. Restrooms were also fairly clean and well-kept considering it was a campground.
The only complaint I have is that it was disappointing to be enioying the scenery, and see a Whataburger cup or Walmart bag on the ground. It's terrible that some people can't be bothered to properly dispose of their garbage. If the park had 2-3 people ride the trails and check for trash every so often, it'd go a long way to make Lake Houston Wilderness Park a perfect nature retreat.
Bea Garcia
Very nice place to hold small events. The cabins are also very nice for small families. It's very peaceful and a great way to really enjoy nature with all the trails and ponds.
Tim Lofton
Pretty nice outdoor getaway for the near-Metro area. Coming from the Pac NW, I still have a hard time with the "Wilderness" part of the name, as the park maintains fairly short hours and is otherwise fenced around the perimeter and locked up. It would be nice to have access in the very early mornings, especially in the summer when it gets hot. Not sure how this place will change once the Grand Parkway is blasted through the northern border of the park, but it won't be good.
Herman Freitas
It's a great park with campsites cabins on the lake restrooms definitely worth a visit or going camping for a picnic
R Lamberson
Nice park, good trails to hike on and facilities to picnic for the day or camp or cabin overnight.
Crystal Carlton
The cabin was nice. The beds were hard though. Was very relaxing out there. Just wished it didn't rain most of the time we were there.
Angie Moreno
If i could give more stars i would
Keelan Cook
Decent park for group camping. If you expect to see Lake Houston from here, think again. It does have some nice camping facilities and creek access, as well as a large pond they call a lake.
Samuel Compton
This place was absolutely wonderful I took my family there for a vacation to go camping we had so much fun and are looking forward to going back and exploring the rest of the park
Vanessa “NessaGoesPlaces” Stone
So nice. Had a great time hanging out with friends and hiking. Great cabin.
Mike Noonan
Great place to hike and camp
Cody Griffin
Never had an issue and great family camping. Recommend walk up sites one or two. Small hike to it but you get that privacy.
Kayla Andrews
Absolutely beautiful and serene. Never ran into another hiker my entire hike. Almost makes you forget the rest of the world exists!
Shawn Brown
Great afternoon hike on the Ameritrail! We were able to see a large snake, deer, and a family of hogs! Plus, plenty of birds and other critters rummaging around. We always enjoy the tranquility and beauty of this area given its close proximity to Atascocita. Highly recommend.
Amanda Lynn
This is what I have been looking for since moving to Houston; a good, quiet, natural place to hike with no pavement and not a lot of people. Amazing scenery, well maintained trails, perfect way to get out of the city and back to nature.
Chris Dempsey
Really nice place to get outdoors. Very developed camp and day use areas, but given the proximity to Houston is as close to wilderness as you could hope for.
Ximena Cardoza
Trees everywhere. So many camping areas and choices (byo tent or stay at fancy cabins). Many bodies of water. Theres fee per people. Lots of trails easy and hard, for bikes and walking. Pet friendly. Wildlife centers. And picnic areas.
Josh Kaid
Cheap to get in, great trails, beautiful scenery all you could want. Closed on Tuesdays learned the hard way.
William Roberts
The campsites were amazing and the lake was really cool.
andrew whitfield
Great place for hiking and camping. Has a small lake and river access. Lots of trails.
Yadhira P.
Our first time there. Luckily we went with someone that been before. It's a big place and can definitely get lost. But it's a great staycation if you live near Houston, Humble, Kingwood or surrounding area
Josh Walton
Great place to camp close to home!
Ann Quratul
It's a clean, fun place. My son loved it and made friend. The water level is perfect for small kids.
Jen P
Great place for being in the city limits, cabins are very nice but also very close together which limits privacy.
Paradigm Development Center
The trails are great! The campsites are awesome! The bathrooms are clean.
Lisa Saldivar
By far the best experience ever. I fell in love with the trails. Definitely recommend this place to everyone!!
Rhoda Fragd
Great place to take the kids!!! It doesnt cost much to get in, and you can stay at the creek all day. Its shallow enough for small children, and a great place to have a picnic!!!
Kame Khadivian
I loved it took the family had a blast eventhough it rained. Mosquitos were horrible. The showers and bathrooms were super clean.
judith pena
This place is amazing lots of fun.
Jon Pursley
Great outdoors getaway if you live in or around downtown Houston. Trails are good for hiking, running and easy mountain biking. Camping and various kinds of shelters or cabins are available for overnight stays. Great amenities!
Kason Twitchell
This is a gem if you’re interested in hiking! It was definitely a great location and my children had an amazing time!
Jesse Hill
The bathrooms were well maintained. We spent three days camping and enjoyed it! The park was nice and there were good trails.
Adam Nyholt
Very nice camp ground close to home! Clean, well run, and it has primitive hike in sites that are great for practicing your back-packing skills.
Wanda Shingler
Awesome!! The kiddos had the most fun plaything in the creek...enjoyed plaything w/other children as well. Next time we are going to go early and walk a trail or two!!
Melody Pearson
We have 5 children of our own and my 2 neices and this was awesome our kids love walking and it has much much more than just trails
Half Right Face Productions
Being active Army ive hiked in states like , SC, NC, GA, MO, HI. This park was pretty good. The trails are well maintained , impossible to get lost and great photo ops. One thing I didnt like is theres no hills for a moment of challenge. Completely flat trails. I would defiently return though.
LADAWNA MCLEOD
We have been to the park a few times now; they have lots of family activities such as guided hikes and archery classes. The only complaint is of the lady that works the front gate. Every time we have been she had been rude, it seems like we are bothering her by coming to the park. The last time we went was this past weekend, come to find out there were others that day that had the same problem with here at other times they visited. It is a shame that someone that is supposed to greet people has such a bad disposition.
Steven Hernandez
Great place to take the family! I have visited this park since 95. It truly is a hidden gem!
Roswell Sartwell
Beautiful spot. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Lots of camping options, new archery range too! Definitely recommend for family trips.
David Lingle
Nature is a drug. To escape and see the little things that we forget about in our daily hustles is good for us. Being grounded is so important. I'm a veteran who has had struggles with PTSD and to explore nature with my daughters as I did when I was young is profoundly healing. I want to pass on to them how important nature is and the most important thing is to respect it and observe with a small footprint.
Christina Sanchez
First time camping out there I love it I will do it again. It was an awesome weekend with the family
Victor Alvarez Iniguez
Amazing and beautiful. It is a huge park with a lot of trails to walks and picnic areas. You can rent cabins. It was more that I expected.
Steven Romine
Great trails. Would have been nice to be told at the entrance that the last 1/4 of the ameritrail was closed. Hiked all the way back and found it closed. Had to cross over to 5 mile and go back. Communication
Enrique Carmona
Dope park. It's got trails for hiking and bikes. It's kinda huge on foot though but there's some places you can park pretty close to the trails and stuff. Also there's one trail that you can take on foot and get poke stops and 2 gyms just in case you guys play
Angelica T
This place is beautiful and quiet and the staff is very helpful. All the screened shelters and the A-frames have running water and electrical outlets. We've been here twice now and just love it.
Regina Villarreal
Absolutely loved the Ameritrail. Visited the primitive camp sites. Didn't get in the creek, but walked 5 miles. A great hike. Very shady.
julie john
Peaceful getaway from the craziness of the city but is less than an hour drive from most parts of Houston....Clean and neat restrooms and shower facilities. It is really fun to be camping in here with family.
Clint Reynolds
A hidden gem northeast of Houston. Beautiful cabins and nice sized campsites. A lake stocked with catfish and serene hiking trails. Well worth a day trip or weekend getaway.
Couch's Automotive Racing Services
It's getting more attractions but in trade losing some of it's nature. We had a good time at the archery range.
John Carney
Not bad for $3/person. Self guided simple nature walking paths in raw woods and gentle flowing creek. Plus basic nature center.
Daniel Jimenez
Great place for family , clean restrooms...
Mark Jones
Great place to take family or meet friends, pet friendly, nice staff! very clean park with hiking trails, creeks, lake, primitive camping and many lodging options and amenities!

Beautiful escape from city life. Loved the nature sightings, the deer all around. I went for a quick trail run early in the morning and it was gorgeous and peaceful.
Rick Collins
Saw an owl, a deer, a lot of frog's, and almost stepped on a Coral Snake. Take some musquito repellent. The musquitos we're really swarming.
Sara Turner
I love the park, there is a new compost that was put in today by my volunteering group, you can camp, hike, take nature classes, fish, and plent other things! Its amazing
caitlin eggers
i hate having to pay $3 when i only spend an hour there with my dog BUT small price to pay for a beautiful park with well kept facilities and a fun time with my puppy
Steven Myers
Really loved it it was awesome the only problem I really had is that you still can't get people to understand where trash cans are and that was the basic problem I had was just seeing nothing but nature and then Whataburger cup nature again and then a red solo cup just Family Dollar bag down by the river it was just little disappointments like that but there Nature Center was awesome they had a pretty cool exhibit in there with a touch screen monitor you get to witness Turtles and freshwater fish snakes and the lady behind the counter was just awesome I would love to come back but I remember to bring a trash bag and a grabber so I can keep it clean
Heather Russell
Very nice place if you want to escape from the city life and go into the wilderness. Lots of trails on over 5000 acres. Nice clean restrooms with showers

Great place for families. Swimming camping park grilling. Fishing. Visitors that leave teach there is the only bad thing
Michelle Elkins
Nice spot to relax with family
Ron Nicewonder
One of the best, and best maintained, parks in the area.
Miles of trails to enjoy that cross Peach Creek, and go around several lakes.
Laura Johnson
Great orienteering class for beginners! Nature center is a hidden gem.
Aiden Smith
Was super surprised by this park. First didn't know it existed till my sons cub scout pack went for a weekend camping trip. If you are looking for a place to relax, hike, play in a creek and perhaps camp - and still be close to Houston, this is it.
Hui R. Cresswell
They have a nature center which is pretty good for children with some interactive displays, snake and fish exhibits a couple of trails through the woods for those that wish to have enjoy walking
Sheila Files
We love Texas but we love it on the lake even better come and join us it is a beautiful place great fishing jet skiing boat ride Banana Boat Ride you do anything out here it's awesome just don't bring a bottle only bring cans why because you don't mess with Texas
Blake Campbell
If you like long walks , great views and a decent place to camp and step back in time...try EXTREME MOUNTAIN BIKING ..DECENT TRAILS FOR THE BEGINNER
Aaron Chaplin
Love this place, truly slept on!
The Mordeo
A really good park for hiking or getting a jog on. I would barely recommend any younger kids go unless they like walking because theres barely a play place for them.
DAVID GOLDBERG
The lady at the front gate was very helpful. Gave us a map and information on where things are. The trails where wide and clean of debris. The wife and I will be back to explore more trails.

Wonderful place for a family camping trip. You don't feel like you're camping on top of other people and the quiet hours are amazing.

I go every weekend and sometimes during the week with my wife and our dogs. Has Pokéstops for "Pokémon GO!" (So you canvince the kids to come along) I've seen and attended a few weddings here myself, not to mention the camping sites, and MILES of trials (got lost once) for both hiking and biking. My personal favoritw thing to do is hike a few milea down the river and have a nice picknic in the woods. Oh yeah, and for about $25 you can get an annual pass.

My only gripe is that the front gate lady was on the phone when I was trying to pay for my entry fee. She asked if I wanted my receipt, and I nicely said "sure". She responded with a big grunt as though saying sure" was the wrong answer. So I said "actually, it's fine God bless" and she proceeded to talk on the phone again.

Best for camping organizations - kind of limited for day trips compared to other parks in the area.
