Celebrated my niece's 11th birthday here! It's been about 10 yrs. since . The family setup camp on Friday and stayed till SUNDAY. Check out of the camp site was at 11:00 am . though they stayed beyond to enjoy the beach! Parking was close to campsite. Camp ground was clean, lots of trash containers, picnic tables, bathroom facilities were immaculate, beaches area were clean. Love it! we will be back.

Beautiful Beach! I asked a friend to bring me to a place away from a busy city with out the congested traffic and clean beaches. It's about a 30 minute drive from Waikiki but well worth it. If you do not have a truck, be advised you will get stuck in the sand if you want to be right up on the beach. There are a few places to park but you'll need to walk a bit to get to the beach. It was windy that day but the water is warm, there are also jelly fish but I didn't get stung. The beach also has a camping site where you park with plenty of shade after 1pm. Clean bathrooms with fresh running water to cleanse the saltwater off. I would definitely recommend that beach if you'd love to visit!

Best beach on the island. I am retired military so I have access all week. However on the weekends it is open to the public. Not crowded and the water is light blue and clear. Outstanding.

Had our first camping trip here since moving to the island! Was so much fun! Couple of things I wish I did more research on was if there were built in grills or fire pits. We had wood and charcoal, but there wasn’t anywhere to use them 😂 thankfully, there are places super close by to grab food. Took our 1 year old and she loved it! Highly recommend!

Absolutely gorgeous. I was worried about the wind bugging my 8 month old but she took it all in stride. The parking is a bit hectic but got lucky and found a place really close as someone was leaving. They have pavilions and grilling, someone had their volleyball supplies and was playing, beach itself was not overly crowded. I personally wouldn't take my young kids into the water here as the tide definitely pulls you and the waves are crazy! I loved it, but didn't feel safe taking my baby in. There's cheap camping nearby as well as some cabin rentals on the beach that we are totally going back for! They also have a mini golf course as well as paintball. We saw a ton of boince castles 🏰 and parties so I'm assuming it's a good spot for that!

Not very crowded, which I really enjoyed! This was one of the first beaches I went to when I first moved here a few months back! Really pretty views, calm waves for the most part and I even saw a peacock on the way there! recommend this beach to anyone. :)

One of our favorite beaches on Oahu during summer! Calm or reliable waves for surfing or boogie boarding in the summer. A bit rough in the winter. There's always parking. Only open on the weekends due to training. There's food trucks down the road at the entrance starting at 11 on weekends. Sometimes Portuguese man-of-war.

My favorite beach on Oahu. Never too crowded and breathtaking. It’s easy to park. The body surfing is great with great views of the surround mountains. Open to public Friday noon to Sunday evening.

Unparalleled beauty and fun. This beach was everything I wanted in terms of waves and water color. The water was beautiful with decent waves that made it super fun to swim and dive under. The sand is super soft and there are tons of little crabs running around. Since it’s located next to the air force base, we felt super safe. Honestly, this beach is for those looking for swimming waves.

Bellows Field Beach Park is a beautiful and historic beach park located in Oahu, Hawaii. It was originally established as part of the Waimanalo Military Reservation and was renamed Bellows Field in 1933. During World War II, the park was attacked by Japanese warplanes. Today, it is open to the public on weekends and national holidays and is maintained by the City and County of Honolulu. With its long, wide sand beach and shallow sandbar, it's a great spot for bodysurfing and bodyboarding. Despite the presence of dangerous jellyfish, the park is home to a variety of marine life, including the Pacific mole crab and the pupu pani snail. If you're looking for a unique beach experience in Oahu, Bellows Field Beach Park is definitely worth a visit. It's also a great spot for permit camping.

Very nice beach secluded from tourist. Even though we are tourist we were able to enjoy the views and less crowded. The water was awesome and clear. The sand soft through your feet and the last part they had food trucks in the entrance chicken, tacos, corn and candy truck. So you had a variety of picking for lunch. We went with the tacos and they were great. If you happen to make it out to the island you need to stop by here. Awesome

Nice place to set up a party minus the wind, rough waves, and portuguese man o war... Nice sand for digging giant holes in the sand. Good open parking. Easy to find. Just deep on the North East, the drive is kinda far feeling when you live down west. Great for body boarding, lots of small waves close to shore. There are life guards till a certain time, so if you get stung, go see them, they have a spray for the sting. Would go here again if it wasn't so far.

A pleasantly uncrowded beachfront with decent waves. There's a nice and near-constant breeze coming in off the ocean, so it never gets too hot, even under direct sunlight. Tidal pull can be pretty strong at times, so definitely keep an eye on your kids. We'll definitely be back for more days under the sun out here. Loved it.

This beach is absolutely beautiful but it is located on a military base so you can't get there unless you're military or with someone who is. There are cabanas to rent and the water is great for boogie boards. Wear shoes on the grass because it's pokey. There are showers on the outside of the bathrooms like most beaches but there are showers inside too with stalls and even benches.

Went on a Friday at 12PM right when it opened and had the beach to ourselves. Definitely a hidden gem. Bring your sunscreen and plenty of snacks/drinks as the closest store is a couple miles away.

The beach is beautiful! There are two sides of the park. One side is opened to the public and the other for military. Reservations are needed if you’re going to the military side. The other side is opened to all and families gather to picnic, party and celebrate. Parking is very close to the beach.

Awesome beach. No crowd. Camping was impacted by a large group who played very loud music all night, into 4 am. Had to leave at 2am to get some sleep. Just beware this could happen if you plan to camp there

Beautiful Beach! This little known secret is amazing. This beach is so pretty and has so much to offer. We had the opportunity to visit the beach. The wind was blowing so much that it made the air cold so we did not get in the water but the color of the water was truly amazing. The sand was soft and the sky was blue. The area is clean and has a restroom and location to bring a picnic.

Gentle waves, beautiful sandy beaches, and not too crowded. People were camping, having picnics and playing beach games. Our only complaint is that it's only open on the weekends. It's a great place for kids and people who don't love huge waves. Good for boogie boarding.

This beach does get crowded, so beware of that, but the views are amazing! The surf is comparatively mild at Waimanalo Bay so it's a good spot for younger people or others who aren't as confident in the ocean. Many amenities nearby to make a day of it if desired! If you're visiting Oahu, definitely stop by this great park & beach.

Not great snorkeling place but quite beautiful and awesome get away from " rat race" and touristy areas. Loved camping here years ago and not sure the protocol for camping in 2022 but very pristine, spacious, and safe. Cannot wait to visit again soon .... pictures will post soon.

When weather is right it is a great place to do body boarding. Equipped with many shower rooms no need to worry about getting clean. What worthy the most to spend time here is the beautiful view, go hand holding your love and strolling along the shore on the soft and smooth sands.

One of my favorite beaches on the island must have military ID or base access ID of some kind to enter the gate. There's a variety of rental equipment available. There are rental cabins, condo's, and camp grounds. There is also miniature golf, paint ball, and walking trails.

We love going to Bellows. The waves are usually pretty calm and the beach isn’t packed to the point of it being uncomfortable. If you go on a weekday it’s usually pretty empty compared to other places. If possible I highly recommend going through the gate. I think there where maybe 10 other people there one evening.

Very nice scenery. Restrooms are available. Plenty of parking. Beach is pretty clean. Water today was a little cold. Nice deep blue water. Post is not too far. Have areas where you could post a tent. Trash bins are available. Easy access after parking your vehicle. Very scenic.

Just the most breathtaking and gorgeous place I've ever visited! The beach is incredible and the views are almost overwhelming! It has two volleyball sand courts, tennis courts and several restrooms. It's a must see!

The beach was fairly empty around 10am with far less people the further you drove down the road. It was quiet and a great place to relax. The water and wave break was fun with shallow water several feet out.

This beach is amazing. I can't say enough about it. It's one of my favorite beaches in Oahu. The sand is so nice, the water is clear, and the waves are soft enough for swimming and beginning body boarding. There are also showers and bathrooms on the premise.

my favorite beach ever! I do tend to get stung by portugese man of war but its mild and it does not take away from the beautiful beach, choice waves and the rock-free enjoyment that comes. Great for the family but has a strong current and waves can get big.

One of the nicest beaches in the world. Nice white sand. Good swimming conditions most of the day. Cabins for rent (government associations) clean rest rooms situated along the beach. Fishing area on the north end of the beach. Check in at Turtle Cove because as of 24 September sections of the beach are closed to digging due to ordinance hazards.

Bellows AFB camping is so much fun. Cabins are very reasonably priced and super close to the water. East shore can have jelly fish tides, so carry vinegar when you visit. Most days there is a neat little food truck fair about a mile away.

By far this is my favorite beach on the island. It is behind a military checkpoint so a military ID is required to park close. Has a lifeguard and a restroom. The chill atmosphere with military families. Beautiful sand and super warm water during the summer. The drop-off is very minimal and the waves crash about three feet high. Fun for little ones when supervised. Going to miss this beach greatly when I leave.

Bellows is by far my favorite beach on this island. It has beautiful blue water but not always is it clear. Sometimes it has some plants tumbling through and sometimes there are jelly fish but it has white powder sand and lots of places to hide for a little shade if you get too hot. The bathrooms are alright and are always stocked. If you have access the shoppette is always stocked and has a good selection of things!

The beach was great, beautiful, parking lot available, not a touristy beach so that's great if you enjoy privacy. I'm only giving 4 stars is because we found two Portugese man of war jellyfish washed up on the beach. They can cause severe pain.

The area has completely changed. The beach is still the same. Great soft white sand and shallow water pretty far out. We went on a windy day which pushed Man-O-Wars onto the beach, but no one got stung. The small canal where our kids played for many years is now off limits due to "leptosporosis". Pretty sure this is a gimic sign to reclaim the area, but it was a bummer to see. Kids can still get down there from the beach, but there's really now water this time of year other than the tide water. This beach has zero shade for most the day so bring cover. If not, you will get burnt.

My favorite beach on Oahu. There are cabins that can be rented and pavilions that can be reserved for events. The water here is very clear and doesn't get deep until quite far from the shore. Certain times of the year there are jellyfish though, so pay attention to signs.

This is our favorite beach to take our 3 kids to. Just enough waves to make it exciting but not too much to where I am scared to let them go out in the water. The water is so clear too! There’s plenty of parking, bathrooms and showers. Only downside is no shade, so we bring a canopy tent for our baby when we go. Love love love Bellows!

Beautiful beach with lots of space so it doesn't feel crowded. Water isn't as clear as other parts of the island, so snorkeling might be out of the question normally, but it's still a gorgeous spot to spend a day.

Bellows Beach park is awesome! Once you get thru the base gate, it’s far less crowded than Kailua and as beautiful if not more. It has less shade from trees but does have clean bathrooms, easy parking and a short drive to the Shopette for snackage.

Would go back again it's so nicely maintained, clean restrooms, and lifeguard on duty. It is on a military base, so part of the beach you can only visit if military. We went on Thursday. Open to public on weekends (public side) military can go anytime 24/7 (we called). Little baby man-o-wars in water and on the beach so had to be cautious and watch my steps but definitely worth going, plus got to see some up close!

I might kick myself for this review, but here it goes... Hands down the best beach on Oahu. The only gripe I have is the public side is closed during the week. Water is a gorgeous turquoise, and sand is super fine. The jem of this island, hands down

06 June 2020: Beaches are open on the weekend now. :D 17 May 2020 : Still not open yet. (Hopefully) I'll remember to update this when it opens. Please remember to follow the speed limit as there are people walking, biking, running, etc. Even when it is closed. But yes, one of the best beaches on island :)

Best beach that we went to in Oahu. The surf was great for boogie boarding and jumping waves. The sand was nice to play in for my little. When we went there was a food truck at the entrance. Plenty of parking. We had an amazing day. Note: The beach is closed during the week and only open on the weekend. The beach opens on Friday’s at noon and closes at 12am on Sundays.

Lovely place to camp, great waves, best when not busy. Do note that the sites next to the road are on an incline. Be sure to bring bug spray, candles, and a lighter for the nights-- the lighter is for the centipedes that might come your way. We saw 3 while we were there and only managed to remove 2 because we didn't have the lighter on hand for the first one. Fun for the whole family!

Clean and convenient beach access on the windward side. Bathrooms available, but no dogs allowed. Great place to go camping on a weekend with shaded camp sites available right on the ocean. You cannot book your campsite any sooner than 1 week in advance online and they fill up quickly, so I recommend reserving online the Friday morning prior to camping. Need to have your vehicle information available when reserving online.

Yes, Google has the correct hours. Bellows beach is used as a military training area Monday through Thursday. It is open to the public on Friday at noon through Monday morning at 8 a.m. This is different from Air Force base Bellows which is a recreational facility and open Monday through Sunday as long as you have base access (active duty and retirees)

Decent place to go camping. The beach is great for younger ones to body surf and boogie board, the showers and bathrooms are just ok but better than a hole in the ground. Camping is more about the friends you are with the food you are bbqing and just relaxing so you can accomplish this all at Bellows. One downside is that if it rains you are camping on dirt so it's gets muddy and sandy it would be nice if there was more grass areas.

On Kailua’s south-east side, at Waimānalo, sits the Bellows Air Field Station, a military reservation that served as a key airfield during World War II. The last runways were closed in the 1950s, and the station is now used for training and recreation. The park is open to the public on weekends and warrants the short trip from Kailua if you’d like to relax on a long, wide and soft sandy beach with low-ish waves. There is a shallow sandbar here for body surfing and bodyboarding breaks, and partly because of the prevailing trade winds there’s a curious array of wildlife. Portuguese man o’ wars are blown ashore here (9 to 12 days after a full moon), and provide a meal for little sand bubbler crabs, which burrow on the water’s edge. If you’d like to stay overnight, camping permits are issued by the City and County of Honolulu.

It's great if you can get past the gate and don't have a dog. Otherwise just park right before the gate and enjoy a very similar beach (a little less groomed but still very nice) and views. If you can make it inside then good rentals, mini golf, and food/drink options.

I love Bellows. This is the correct way to see Hawaii. I was a little skeptical at first after learning we didn't have electricity or running water. Bellows Field Beach Park is a wooded location adjacent to the beach that is great for family gatherings and group camping due to the large number of campsites and facilities available. There are fewer fire pits than campsites so be cognizant of that when booking your site. I chose one closer to the woods which, after a rain, runs rampant with mosquitoes. Bring bug spray unless you'd like your arms and legs to be covered in bites like mine were. (-0.5 star) Another note, the trees drop tiny pinecones that will dig into you while you're sleeping so bring padding or a cot to accommodate for that. (-0.5 star)

This review mainly has to do with camping at Bellows, so if you're coming for the day your experience will likely be different than mine. The campsites are NOT marked well at all! The site numbers are spray painted on the trees, but I assume that they don't last very long - we had only seen about half-a-dozen sites marked. If you don't arrive on Friday morning to claim your site, expect to wait ... Crowds come to picnic on the sites lining the beach, and are usually there until dinner (leaving a good portion of their garbage on your site when they leave). There is no one on the campground to give direction either. You're better off just asking a fellow camper. That said, I can understand WHY so many people come here. The beach is great, and the view is top notch!

Beautiful beach, great views, friendly people and food trucks! Bathrooms on site, but the showers have weak water pressure for cleaning off afterwards. There are cabins for rent also, but I am not sure of how to rent them. Lots of local food trucks show up plus the MWR has food for sale. You can grill, but have to back off the beach in a designated area. Beach is for CAC holders only, which helps limit crowds and crime. Parking can get tough at times. Highly recommend!
