Reviews of Colorado Campground
A little gem. Very quiet with decent amount of space between sites. We’ve stayed here on 3 different off roading trips and it’s never been full. Chill every time. Lots of first come first serve but we’ve never had a problem. Clean pit toilets. Campground host can sell you bundles. Dog are allowed!
Very clean, quiet, campground. We were there on a Labor Day weekend and it was full. Spacious campsites. You can walk to Manitou lake from here. Host was friendly and informative.
Quiet and clean.
We enjoyed this campground during what has to be one of the busiest camping weekends in the state: 4th of July. While every spot was full, we were pleasantly surprised that the campground remained quiet and free from raucous party goers. For RV campers, nearly every site requires some leveling. Some are a bit of a challenge to back into. The hosts were helpful and polite, the bathrooms were clean, and the guests were well behaved. Ponderosa pines were plentiful and made great hammock supports for many a camper. The undergrowth is sparse and the ground surface is largely dirt and pine needles. Overall, a very pleasant campground with excellent access to Manitou Park Lake.
Very amazing place to be, theres so much space and its a quite environment. The trees surrounding the area is so amazing... We did a nice morning job at like 5 in the morning. And a great place to tell tales kinda like the bears across the fence next to the campgrounds lol
Recreation.gov nor the 800 number allowed us to have a reservation in advance so we took our chances with a walk up and our camping trip went better than we imagined. We were able to stay at the site we initially tried to reserve online. Great shade, spacious, did not feel crowded which was a concern when we saw this location had 80 sites. Bathrooms, trash, and water within stumbling distance of our site. Firewood was more expensive here ($2 more/bundle) than some other forest service campgrounds but we’re not complaining because we anticipated a fire ban. Keep an eye out for wild onions growing around the campground we found many and they were delicious addition to our pad Thai.
Had a awesome time. We will come back Awsome Camp Host !! Would like to bring extended family and grandkids
Very nice camp ground, very well kept. Unfortunately it doesn't offer showers, unless u have a camper trailer. And for personal reasons I don't like the bolted toilets. Other then that it was very nice and pleasant.
We stayed in spot 52 and it had pretty good shade. We really enjoyed this area because it was close to rainbow falls, ohv trail, and we had a BLAST there. We did run into very rude & ignorant campers, Ron & Steph Schnurr. Left us a note on our windshield saying, " If you can read this, now I know why Trump and his supporters hate mexicans! You people are noisy, ignorant and polluting the air with your generator." There are a few things I would have pointed out; 1) generators are allowed to be on until 10pm- we had ours on at 815pm while cleaning up after dinner. 2) there were many grammatical errors in their lovely note. 3) Its not only Mexicans polluting the air, it includes the vehicle Mr. & Mrs. Schnurr drove on as well. Anywho, I did speak to the grounds host about the note and she was very apologetic, even saying she herself is a Trump supporter but did not agree with "why Trump and & his supporters hate Mexicans", she kept saying it was unacceptable and would make a call to Mrs. Steph Schnurr as she spoke to her the night before about the generator being ok to be on until 10pm if we wished. Anyway, all that to say, spot 52 is pretty great, lots of space!
Camp hosts were FANTASTIC! Kind, friendly, inviting, and helpful. The campground itself was much quieter than I expected, even on Memorial Day Weekend - great acoustics.
The hosts are the nicest people, the bathrooms and campsites are always clean, and they have programs/shows for kids on Saturdays during the summer.
Great place, went there during weekdays is really peaceful and quiet, the campgrounds have enough space for multiple tends and away from each other, so you have enough space for the kids to play soccer, horseshoes and more.
The hosts were so great and kind, we enjoyed their friendliness each time we saw them. Campground was great and no pressure in finding a spot/setting up for first-come, first-serve on a Friday. Great options for taking the bike/hike trail to the lake or down to Red Rocks CG or all the way to town. Kids loved the Western musician singing at the amphitheater at night -- sort of a classic camping experience.
Yes, you should camp here! Really beautiful campground. Heavily shaded by tall pine trees. Good space between sites. Truly awesome camp host while we were there. Very clean vault toilets. Clean site upon arrival. Firewood available purchase from the hosts. No flush toilets. No showers. Spotty AT&T mobile service. But, this is a fantastic campground all the same. Everyone pretty much followed the quiet hours schedule. Short hike to the nearby Manitou Lake from the campground. The lake is small but very pretty with trout fishing, paddle boarding, canoeing (no motors).
Were there June 10 - 13.
Will definitely go back!
There was a deer who came to our site in the morning! Only problem was this old guy was yelling at us for no reason! All we were doing was just looking at the deer!
Very awesome campground. I really enjoyed the woods and the hosts were very nice. The campgrounds were a good size and the bathrooms were surprisingly clean. In the morning it felt amazing outside. I would also recommend visiting the nearby lake that is also very pretty.
Such a fun experience!
We spent a weekend here. The camp hosts have something set up for the kids on Saturday nights. We got to meet Ranger Jeff and hear all of his songs. The kids loved it.
Manitou lake is only a short hike away.
Amy, the camp host was the nicest freaking person!! The campsite was beautiful and pristine and had a walking path to the manitou lake!! So perfect and quiet. We will be back 🤘 …
We used Colorado Campground for our first camping experience with two young children (5 and 3). What a great little spot! The campground was clean, well maintained, and friendly. There was plenty of shade, and restrooms and dumpsters were close at hand. Parking spurs are right next to the campsites for easy vehicle access.
The kids loved riding their bikes around the campground, and our brief conversation with the camp managers was very pleasant. They even had some useful tips for camping with young kids. The only downside was some noise from the highway, but that was minimal and not distracting enough to warrant removing a star. We'll definitely be back.
Great place to camp in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Beautiful views, well maintained trails. Clean restroom facilities. Not much litter but I always bring extra bags to pack out more than I packed in. Remember to check ahead for fire bans. Not many bugs but bring sunscreen and drinking water. Take nothing but pictures leave nothing but footprints.
Anywhere in Woodland Park CO area is a good place to camp.
The flies that bite you all day long were unbreakable, along with people dumping their urinals into campground toilets and making them stink awful
The site itself was a great size with nice flat ground and a good sized picnick table as well as a nice fire pit. The bathrooms were amazing, being the cleanest vault bathrooms I have ever stepped foot in. There is not however very much room between camp sites. There are not a lot of bushes around so sound carries very easily. The camp hosts were helpful and friendly. There are nice trails in the area and fishing at Manitou Lake is easy access connected by a short walk from the camp ground.
It's very nice for a crowded, dense campground. The hosts are helpful and will sell you firewood, and the toilets don't smell too bad. Just realize that you are camping with hundreds of other people very nearby.
Very well maintained and the campsites are good distances apart. The hosts were very friendly and they had a program for kids on Saturday night. Bathrooms were clean as well! The campsites are really spacious with enough room at a regular one for an RV AND at least one tent. Each site includes a fire pit and picnic table.
My Family and I went up to woodland park to enjoy the weekend. Grounds are kept very clean, bathrooms are Very clean as well with no bad smell and stocked up toilet paper!!
Pretty quiet area with big camping space!
A must Visit location😊
Great local camping spot with easy access to Manitou Lake. The camping spots were large and well shaded by the trees. Only reason for a 4-star review vs. a 5 is that I wish there were more camping spots available to be reserved vs. first-come-first-served.
No frills in the woods camping. Come to unplug, rest, and have your spirit smile.
My favorite campground to go to, however the hosts are typically lazy and rude - can't be bothered to greet guests, like those in the past have. The guests could be more considerate of others, the hosts could help with that, instead of staying in their camp the majority of the time
Not a bad price $23. They have vault toilets. Which seemed clean enough. It isn't too big of a place. They have nice sized tent and rv sites. We picked up full 4g with our Version phones. Sprint had some service. But come on Sprint doesn't really work anywhere.
The campground has a lot of beautiful mature Ponderosa pines throughout the campground and a lot of grass making it look very park-like. The main road through the campground is paved unlike most federal campgrounds in Colorado. This greatly helps reduce dust during dry periods. Each site though has dirt for parking the RV and is rather uneven. It took a little time to make adjustments to our RV stabilizers to even things out. The campground, particularly the northern loop, seems to be an attraction for family groups. It was pleasant to hear kids voices and watch them playing. We like camping during the week to avoid the crowds and this campground had several sites unoccupied during mid-week.
With a reservation at the campground comes a pass to the adjoining Manitou Lake Picnic area. You can drive to the lake or walk to it from the north end of the campground. Manitou Lake is small but large enough to paddle a canoe and fish. Fish are not large but a hit for the kids. The park also offers a majestic view of Pikes Peak. Be sure to bring a camera and take a picture of the lake with Pikes in the background!
Campground hosts were very friendly and came around every evening to greet us and see how we were doing and check if we needed firewood ($6 a bundle).
As far as negatives, we visited in June and there were a lot of flies especially in the afternoon. They depart though in the evening as expected in Colorado. I did see a wood tick crawling on our picnic table so check your kids and dogs. Highway 67 runs parallel with the campground but is generally not a big noise issue especially at night. The vault toilets were fairly new but not consistently maintained. (I like campgrounds where the toilets are checked and mopped every day!) So bring a spare roll of toilet paper for insurance. I mentioned above the pines and grass which are very nice, but there is very little understory. Mature bushes and shrubs are very helpful in providing privacy. Without it you feel a little exposed.
Overall, our stay at the campground was a very pleasant experience. We have been camping in Colorado for over 20 years and had never stayed at this campground but plan to return again.
Make a reservation before heading up! Awesome camp host... Elevation is around 8500 roughly so if your not used to it you will feel it! Cool lake thats a 5 min walk from campground... Will definitely stay again....
Very good campground. Lots of camping sites. All the campers I met were all very friendly and were willing to help if you were having problems. If the campsites were just another 10-20 yards from another it would get a five star rating.
Nice shaded campground. Very clean restrooms. Close to bike path and trail to lake. Quiet even though close to highway.
Campground Hosts were great, readily available if needed. Wood available on site. Nice, relaxing, clean camp. It is near the road but only loud during the day and more so if you stay in the sites closer to the road. We stayed toward the back edge of the property and it was very nice and spacious. Lots of trees not hit with the beetle kill up north and west. Just a short walk to Manitou Lake where you can walk the lake or even fish. Access right from the campground. We normally go up the Poudre since that is up our direction but we were headed to the Renissance and thought we'd include our camping trip with it so looked near Colorado Springs. We were NOT disappointed. It wasn't as crowded as the Poudre and took us the same amount of time as where we typically go. Definitely planning on coming back! It is just a hop skip and a jump outside of Woodland Park if you forgot anything or just want to restock.
We love all the trees, the bathrooms are always clean, water isn't far from any campsite, and there are lots of great trails. Many kids bring their bikes up to ride around.
Very clean and quiet. The host was super friendly and helpful! Beautiful place to camp
A great, spacious Campground with 81 campsites. Dry camping only. A little traffic noise from Hwy 67.
The place has gone downhill in recent years. Prices have gone up considerably in the last couple of years yet the maintenance is worse than ever. Most of the fire pits are crumbling to rust and dust and the place is overrun with Canada Thistles. Its still one of my favorite campgrounds, but only because its so close.
If you like ruffing it and don't mind the out house. That place is great.
Awesome bike trails for kids and adults as well as fishing and hiking.
Nice campground for RV camping and small tents, close to town in case you forgot something, very noisy, lots of people but not crammed in too tight, lots of light pollution from late arrivals after dark, good for mid-week and short stay.
Great value and large sites.
Clean, plenty of shade. Clise enough to the highway to get some highway noise. Nice walk to the lake.
In general, a good camping spot. Running water and close rest rooms. A little bit to close to the neighbors for my liking but still a good place.
I recommend this campground because the bathrooms are clean and also the campsite. Beautiful scenery and a great place to camp.
It was a nice camp ground that host are really nice and it is a quite campground. There is also a hiking trail right to the lake
Clean campground. Table at each site . Bathrooms and trash dumpsters throughout campground. Has larger and smaller sites. Water available but can not hook hose up to fill up camper. Paved streets.
Nice place to camp. Also you can walk to a small lake and fish.
Campground was clean and well maintained. Camp host was friendly and able to answer our questions.
Lovely campground, the camp manager was very courteous and helpful!
The host were great! Made our stay easy. Love our camp site.
Great campground! Clean and very friendly campground hosts.
Place is awesome, we camp here at least once every year
We are here 8 days into a 10 day reservation. This park is extremely clean and quiet.
Nice open campsites. Trail access to Manitou lake. Clean bathrooms and great hosts.
Loved it. Restrooms cleaned multiple times a day. Great time. Great price
Great place to camp nice trail down to a small lake to fish at.
It's a camp ground....has restrooms...picnic tables campsites and scenery...it's a campground...easy access of of 67...
Very nice campground with several pull through's. Would come back anytime.
Lovely quiet spot in the mountains. Felt like I was back in the Pitney woods of east Tx ;p Wonderful host =)
Its a relaxing place to stay, close to Woodland Park so if you forget something you just run into town. Only con - short season.
Camped up there and it was great a nice quiet getaway fishing was great
This place is absolutely beautiful! Fresh air and clean roads... Nothing else in the world like it.
Great place to camp! Just wish they had showers
Nice Rustic campground within a short walk of a small lake.
Nice & quiet in the woods .. short walk to a beautiful lake.
Perfect camping experience for this traveling Minnesota family. Thank you for such a great time.
Great family camping close to home. And a short hike to Manitou Lake!
Nice clean wooded area not far from town but still makes you feel like your in the middle of no where
Lovely hosts, pretty campground, nice hiking.
Nice quiet campground. Well kept. No showers
Been going for years now, great views, overall pretty quiet
Very nice camp spot, but lake has always been bad for fishing.
Awesome and quite. Great host. Clean bathrooms for pit bathroom.
Love this place! Far enough from city but easy to run to town if needed
Super little campground and quiet! Love it!
Took some Scouts here because it was close to Lake Manitou where we wanted to fish and canoe.
Clean great facilities. Fit to see baby ducks and Chipmunks!!
Closed for the winter. Online prices are high for no water or electric. Camphost on site while closed.
