Reviews of REI
Originally came in the store to look for a bicycle tire and a bicycle pump… And ended up spending nearly an hour, browsing, talking to staff and looking around. They have everything from kayaks, outdoor, hiking, cycling and running… And everything in between. Such a cool store!
I went for hiking boots after work (my first pair ever) and was helped by Darrel who was super knowledgeable and helpful. He had a cool process to make sure the boots were the right fit. More incredible was that I wasn’t the only one with this idea of boot shopping, and he was able to help four different customer sets at the same time with the same energy and focus for all. Overall, really great service and I’m excited to be trying out my boots soon! Thanks Darrel!
Met an incredibly knowledgable and kind hiking shoe expert yesterday morning named Emmi who could not have been more patient and helpful. while helping me find the exact right shoe for my high arched, narrow feet, she took a sincere interest in how i was going to use them. as a result, we had a really nice chat about hiking and life as i watched her masterfully balance her time with me and other customers. as i continued my shopping beyond the shoe section, she checked in on me periodically and helped me locate some amazing leggings i would not otherwise have seen; and introduced me to the REI Member program which is pretty outstanding!
retail is hard; serving people is hard. Emmi stands out in a quiet and unassuming way. That girl is going places - and i don’t mean just hiking! Thanks Emmi!
My wife and I went to REI to buy hiking boots. We had REI associate Darrel in the footwear department help us out. You could not ask for a better associate to help us get fitted properly. Darrel and Emme did a terrific job of helping us get exactly what we needed.
An exceptional customer service and shopping experience. Every associate was knowledgeable and friendly. Had exactly what I was looking for and more.
Love REI. Even after the Christmas experience, still quite a bit to browse and choose from, lots of selection for all your outdoor adventures. Stop by.
I came in to get my Radmini repaired. Told them the story and they reluctantly said yes. It was a long process spanning weeks, lots of confusion and worried nights BUT we eventually got it done. Throughout the entire process, I was left with the impression that a lot of these workers are new and still learning, but they all tried very hard and were kind to me and my bike. As a bonus, I was able to come pick it up exactly on my birthday, so I guess it was fate that it took that long.
I recommend them and I will be visiting again. Thank you guys for fixing my bike, it's means a lot to me.
Max helped me out within a minute of me being in the store and truly went above and beyond to assist me, more than I ever would have asked for; the dude is a class act and I had a good time chatting with him as we navigated our way through my kayak matters. All around great guy, some of the best customer service I’ve received and everyone at the front register was so kind and delightful as well.
Most of my experiences with this store have been good. Staff has been generally helpful, clothing is high quality, sizing is inclusive. However there was a giant mixup with advice I had been given from the store to clear up a credit card issue on an online order that did not go over well and I wasted a lot of time and lost over three hundred dollars of potential credit. Not cool.
Solid store and staff, but REI needs to clean up their inventory process. You can't offer to buy online showing something in stock, then show up to the store and the inventory showing online be incorrect.
Always great experiences at REI! That is why I have been a member for 25 years.
As I make my trek walking across America, friends and family helped me get a new Osprey backpack, ordered online and picked up in Columbus, where I received the most amazing knowledgeable service from Renee! She took her time and left no details out until I was fitted perfectly! Thank you Renee!
Pretty small store, but that's seems to be normal for most REIs. Definitely your typical REI though, great staff and products here. Would advise you to not come here midday to afternoon on Saturday. There were so many people in the area (not necessarily in the store but going to all the stores around here) that it was quite difficult to navigate. I'm used to the city and the amount of traffic was still a little ridiculous.
I went to buy hiking boots. I was impressed with the knowledge, friendliness, and helpfulness of their staff. Their hiking footwear selection was excellent. I appreciated the little ramp to get a feel for the downhill feel of the boots. Cool store.
Very nice and helpful staff they helped me out with what I came in for.
Great selection. Helpful staff. Premium prices. Not the best place for broke hikers to buy but a great place to try stuff on or out before surfing Amazon.
The manager was very helpful and full of advice and recommendations.
I absolutely loved this store! It has a lot of options and well made materials that I trust over cheaper alternatives! I got hiking boots there and Gina was very helpful and actually listened to my needs. She helped me find the PERFECT pair that suited me! While wandering the rest of the store I was helped by Scott and he was personable, actually listened to what I had to say and was knowledgeable about the merchandise. He was able to give solid travel advice and made the overall visit a joy! The people that work there are the reason I shop there over other sporting goods stores. They take the time to help you with your needs and have the experience to back up what they're supporting. Highly recommend a visit. IT'S WORTH IT!
I had a nice shopping experience. I was looking for a kayak paddle but couldn't find any. A nice associate asked if I needed help. I mentioned the paddle and he said "ah yes, they're all packed away for the season but I can get one out for yoy."
So he climbed up a ladder and dug around for a couple of the available models. He had first-hand knowledge of the two brands I was choosing between which helped me reach a decision sooner.
Overall a great experience.
I had such a wonderful experience here. I have very little outdoors experience, but the well trained staff guided me through each item I was looking for, helped me find the right fit and get me the best deal for my money. While it it a little pricey, their stock is all very high quality, and if you buy into the membership ($20 for a lifetime membership) then you can return any item within a year, have access to discounted returned items, and get 10% back on every full priced item that you bought that year. I was very happy with my experience there and I highly suggest it, even for those who aren't entirely sure what that want. The store was not intimating at all to go into as a novice once I get talking to the employees. Thanks REI!
The overall experience of finding the right hiking boot was beyond what I expected from a store. So much so that I became a co-op member which is only $20 for a lifetime membership and I feel like it's worth every penny. Also their return policy of one year is insane and people who are co-op members get to rebuy any returns at a huge discount. I saw lots of things that I could have purchased had I not just purchased boots.
Love this store! I could buy everything in there! Lol I got my mountain running shoes and everyone was extremely helpful!
Leif in the bike shop helped this over-zealous novice with her bike and trunk rack. 😅 Thanks Leif! You're the best. And if you ever get to read this - the bike made it home alright! …
Carl was AMAZING!! He took the time to help me find the best roof rack system to transport our paddle boards. He went to the parking lot to look at my SUV and explained how to install. He went above and beyond!
Scott took time to explain the differences in the available tents and how they were set up. He was helpful in determining what would be best for my needs. I was happy to be given the attention as I was not familiar with these types. Very nice staff throughout the entire store.
Although pricey, quality stuff. One staff member helping me pick out a PFD for paddling. He was very patient and knowledgeable. Thanks!
Workers very helpful in giving advice.
REI are the good guys. Always helpful, excellent guarantee, good selection.
Went in to buy new trail shoes. Staff very nice and helpful, but didn't hover. They are very covid conscious and have precautions in place without over doing it. . One of my stores to just hang out and shop in for fun.
Great outdoor recreation store. The staff was super helpful and knowledgeable. Good store layout. Easy to spend a lot of money on quality gear.
This is an awesome outdoor outfitter. The staff was great and helped us find a tent to replace our old worn-out one. They were willing to set up several tents for us to look at. I was also looking for a backpack and they helped me find the right one within my price range. They even took a return we had from a wrong item we bought at an REI in North Carolina. Awesome customer service.
You couldn't dream up a more ideal shopping experience than the one I had last night at the Easton REI.
I walked into the shop a climbing noob, looking for my first harness and climbing shoes after a fun month borrowing at the climbing gym. Someone met me at the door, walked me over to the section, talked me through some fundamentals and then introduced me to Scott. Turns out Scott is something of a local institution in the Columbus climbing scene, and he really knows his stuff. He pointed me to a shoe that would work great with my wide, flat feet, went up to top stock to find my perfect size, and fitted me with a harness so comfortable I could probably sleep in it.
Experiences like this, and employees like Scott, are why I will always go to REI rather than buy from Amazon. Take good care of Scott, REI.
REI Easton is always a pleasure. Wide selection of gear and equipment and I always find the staff to be knowledgeable and helpful without having "best buy syndrome". When I couldn't find a bag I was looking for that was actually discontinued. Instead of being pushy and trying to sell me a newer model, they happily helped me locate other stores that had it in stock still and made sure I knew I could order it direct online. This why REI is my outfitter of choice for all my backpacking needs. Highly recommend!
I had the best experience in this store I'm old to climbing having done it since I was a kid using nothing but rope but I was looking into a harness to start climbing the wall at the park. Scott was very helpful in getting me into a harness that fit right and felt good. I like that it's a co-op and the staff seem knowledgeable about their areas. I joined just to take advantage of the "garage sale" of return merchandise.
Almost bought the wrong size backpack. The helpful staff insisted I get sized. Turns out even though I'm 6'4" a medium pack fit way better than a large. Great experience! Got the membership, customer for life!
Without a doubt a refreshing assurance that customer service is not dead in retail.
Personally, I've found a new interest and commitment to improving my health, and as a support to that commitment, I've dedicated myself to finding recreational activities that nurture my goals.
A renewed interest in hiking (backpacking) has led to numerous trips to Rei at Easton Town center and also a couple of trips to their Sawmill Rd store.
On every occasion, I was greeted by an employee who seemed sincere, friendly, and as if they genuinely wanted to be helpful for my visit to their store.
As I looked around the store on numerous occasions during my visits the staff on the retail floor in the most unintrusive and in the most friendly manner we're always willing to help.
In addition, the store offers assistance with the sizing for backpacking backpacks free of charge on my first visit a young man named Avery assisted me, when I got back to shoes another gentleman named Steve gave me some great information on shoes I was considering.
In both cases, the staff was extremely knowledgeable, but perhaps even more focused on my goals as a customer/hiker and how their product offerings might help me reach those goals.
Most recently I took my wife to get sized she was helped by a staff member named Miranda, and I just recently bought a new pair of trail runners and I was helped by Kennedy.
What is truly great about Rei is the culture they've set in their stores. The names of the staff members could change with the day and shift employees are working on but the high-level customer service doesn't change.
Even their online experience is of the highest quality, their website provides a vast array of brands and products to meet every customers' need and budget. I've loved shopping "Rei-Outlet" on their main website, full of deals of slightly older models or closeouts at incredible prices.
In addition to the store and online experience that they've established. I've found one of the most useful or valuable resources associated with their brand is their Youtube channel. From detailed and informative "How to videos" to "Product Reviews", they continue to embrace service to their customer base in the highest quality manner and most helpful ways.
They've built a loyal customer in just a couple of months if you give them a chance I assure you will come away impressed. #optoutdoor
I love coming into this REI location. I'm always offered help and often the employees have talked to me like a friend. It's great! Most recently bought a new raincoat here and it was yet another good experience!
Wonderful store with great staff and useful gear. Scott was very helpful with directing me to what I was searching for, and shared some entertaining and useful stories and info along the way!
I just spent an afternoon at this store getting gear for a hiking trip. From the minute I walked in the door, I was greeted by someone and received help from multiple employees to help with my list. Within 10 minutes, each employee I interacted with knew who I was and where I was going so that as I moved between depts, I was the “one going to Scotland”. Before they even met me! Their expertise and knowledge were wonderful. I have never had such customer service ever!!!!!!!!!
I've never been here before, but wanted to buy a large item during a 20% off sale. The total was $500+. The guy helping me hard sold me on the membership. I explained I wasn't interested right now because this was my first visit and I wasn't sure how often I'd shop there. He kept pushing. I went to pay and got a repeat of the membership sales pitch from the cashier. Her information was not even correct because she said the benefits would apply to the sale purchase I was making. I said the other guy said it wouldn't, so after checking she agreed, yet still continued to push the $20 fee. How about a simple, "Wow, thanks for coming in and spending $500. We hope to see you again!" That would go a lot further to earn my business in the future. They both just seemed frustrated I said no to their sales pitch. As a result, my experience was okay, but I'm not excited to go back.
Store as a whole is excellent, my go to place for basic backpacking gear.
Wanted to come back and edit the review to say thanks for taking the covid-19 pandemic seriously. Still able to shop online and get the things I need, and curbside pickup is handled perfectly. Thanks for keeping your employees as safe as possible despite the general publics unwillingness to do the same.
What can you say? It's REI! HELLO ! Tons of great gear, at fair prices - and you are a member of the co-op. And if you aren't, you are missing out. Good advice and great customer service are their benchmarks. Good selection, though it's not a huge store, so not all lines and colors always available. You really can't go wrong here.
I really enjoy stores like this and could spend the whole day. The staff was great but the prices are definitely not the lowest. Was planning to purchase a sea to summit sleeping mat (comfort light si) that was listed at $129.99 until I found the same mat at Cabela's for $86.77. Was told at the register that they do not price match. Nice store but shop around!
Was greeted personally upon entering store. Was advised of product lines, sales, opportunities, membership benefits and more. Representatives took the time to find out my needs, wants, activities and did thorough fact finders to see how they and REI could help me. In short, they took ownership of my needs and problems, asked great questions and did all they could to have me both pleased and my needs satisfied.
Great store. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and super friendly. If you plan on buying a lot of your camping stuff or clothes here it is worth it to sign up for the membership because you'll get 10% back on almost every purchase at the end of the year to be spent on REI items.
The classes that REI offers as well are a lot of fun and interesting.
Great organization! Love their products and the staff are helpful and knowledgeable.
I just attended an REI camping event. My cynical side assumed that it was an opportunity to display their camping equipment. And in this case I was fine with that because I needed things.
It turns out it was just a group event that they organized for new campers. It was awesome to camp for the first time, clearly not having everything that I need to camp, but feeling confident that REI could fill in the gap for one night.
It says a lot about the REI culture and the character of the people that work there.
Many thanks for a great outing!
I felt like I was greeted by every employee and offered assistance. So when I needed help with a selection someone was right there to answer my questions.
Love, Love, Love REI! So glad I'm a member. This is the place to get good stuff, great advice and meet wonderful people. Members only Garage Sale are the BEST!!!!!!!!!
First off, to an outdoors kinda guy who cycles, fishes, bikes, runs, camps and is into tech and equipment - REI is equivalent to a diamond store for my wife! The toys and equipment and gear in this place are ALL GOOD! But in this world, these reasons alone do not win the loyalty of an informed shopper/athlete. Here is what does it though... Customer Experience. There are two guys here: Joe and Tony... I had some difficulty getting what I need (aka Want) for my COVID-season adventure streak. To be simple and concise, Anna (online/telephone CSR) and the two mentioned gentlemen stretched themselves to a degree unheard of to make MY wants THEIR need and they even did it waaay after hours! Tony said to me as I left the store that he manages in Columbus, that my happiness as his customer was more important to him than the "bottom line". Leaving that day, I had what I needed (wanted) and am sold 250% on REI! Thanks to these folks, my biggest dilemma now is what outdoor adventure I will need outfitted for next 😅🤣😂!
My boyfriend was in the market for new climbing gear and a store associate named Molly was extremely helpful to us. She answered all our questions, including ones we had about her completion of The Appalachian Trail with ease. Molly let my boyfriend use the store's rope to test his potential harness and assisted us in the shoe section as well.
This REI has always had friendly staff and a rewarding experience for us. Wonderful place!
When and if you can get help, the employees are nice. I was really wanting to buy a bunch of camping shirts but they had no selection. They did however have a large selection of coats and jackets. Why they have no camping clothes but a bunch of winter/fall stuff at the end of spring is beyond me.
...absolutely incredible customer service! I was passing through Columbus and needed help identifying my old, REI-purchased, jacket in order to find a new equivalent. Lauren was exceptional in comparative-brand-research online and in-store!!! ...highly recommended : )
This is our go to place when we need camping gear or outdoor clothes. The staff at the Easton location are genuinely interested in helping you. We have been members of REI since they opened up in Columbus. I 100% recommend signing up. It's a minimal one time fee and life time membership. Why not!? Can't say enough good things about this store. Keep up the great work!
Shout out to Steve, for helping me pick out my first pair of hiking boots tonight. I left feeling more confident, from all of the tips he provided, for my up and coming backpacking trip. Glad I stopped in tonight. REI has a new lifetime member, all thanks to Steve.
Always great to shop here! The prices are not the lowest but you pay for knowledgeable staff and convenience. This is a somewhat smaller store then I experienced in Washington State and Oregon, but I think that's to be expected given the difference in outdoor opportunities between the two locations.
There membership is easily work it. 20 bucks forever, and I got 80 in cash after my first year, no big purchases. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable. Very helpful, best selection anywhere.
Never had a bad experience at an REI they help me get what I need and make sure my opinions, wants and needs are addressed. Would definitely recommend this store to anyone looking for outdoor equipment.
The staff and location are both great
Always a good time at this store. They turn over merchandise often, so there's always something new to see. Great sales, too. Become a member and enjoy the perks!! Always friendly and helpful service.
This is a wonderful place to get well-made outdoor gear and camping supplies. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for.
This was one of the most relaxing days I have had in a long time. I was able to shut everything out and just relax. Who knew being so secluded would be so enjoyable.. I loved every second of my float. I even fell asleep, will be coming back for sure!!!!
We'll organized store. Had almost everything I was looking for... PLUS I learned while checking out, as an REI member, I had a $26 credit from my purchases over the past year. Come on! What other recreational store does that?!
This REI, like most, is staffed with very helpful people who are highly involved in the activities that this store offers gear for. If you become a member, 10% of your purchases is refunded to you once a year in the form of a 'dividend' that you can cash out or spend in store.
Wow, spendy. I visited here the first time a week ago, and I was a little overwhelmed by the pricing. I guess I was unaware this is geared more for "professional" outdoor enthusiasts, as casual camping gear is a lower priority.
They don't offer anything but high-end, so if you have the money to spend, go for it. I would not recommend shopping here for weekend "car camping" outings.
The staff here really take the time to help with anything and everything. We came in to buy 2 bikes and they took the time to test multiple bikes and setups for literally hours with us before settling on our final purchase minutes before they closed.
After our Tepui tent came in broken, Brooks helped us find a solution before we left for a trip, which only gave him a handful of days to work with. Awesome group, super accommodating and friendly.
We were just window shopping today but always so much fun in REI! Absolutely love everything they carry!
Just bought 4 Euro Travel backpacks and couldn't have ask for better service. Jared was knowledgeable, polite, friendly, patient and very helpful. Very satisfied with the service and product.
To the guy that helped me decide what head lamp was the best - you rock, keep doing you man.
Best service and knowledge base for outdoor needs. I am very pleased with my purchase of the Atmos 65 and can't wait to run it thru some trials.
Great quality, prices and friendly knowledgeable staff!
They actually had little kids hiking things (clothes and boots). They also had a wide selection of adult hiking clothes, unlike other big name stores which only had 1 or 2 pairs of pants to pick from.
Love REI. Staff is always super helpful and the stuff they carry is always high quality.
Great people in this location! So helpful and kind. Will be back next time I'm in Columbus
Came in looking for some new sandals. Great help from staff, they helped my clarify what I wanted, and brought me what me some different things to try on. One of my favorite stores.
Great place to buy anything for the outdoors. If you need shoes, go see Patrick. He is super duper helpful and personable.
I bought a part for my bike and the store bike service center put it on for me for free and I also learned a lot about how to pick street bike tire.
First time going here. And it was great. Was coming to try on a pair of Vibram five finger. First time wanting a pair of these shoes and they were very helpful and informative.
It's REI... it's a great place to go for outdoor advice, like minded folks, AMAZING clearance prices, and my favorite retail therapy
Outstanding staff. The selection of top quality outdoor gear is perhaps the best in town. Expect to pay top dollar for most items.
My very favorite store. The staff are all A1. Helpful, knowledgeable and willing to go the extra mile to make sure you get what you need.
A friendly experience in spite of masks and distance. Smiles, short conversation had me leaving with a better feeling about my day.
Very friendly and helpful staff! Went in for a gift card and was in and out in minutes!
I'm sure as with most REI stores, you get a greeting when you walk in and help from one of the employees if you want. Advice has been solid so far.
Love this store! Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Great outdoor product selection.
Great store with a great mission & a friendly, helpful & knowledgeable staff. Became a member today.
Very knowledgeable staff, great customer service, excellent products! Get a membership- it’s dumb not to!
Awesome co-op policy but workers at this location like to talk your head off as if you don't know what you're doing and it's hard to shake them.
It's an REI. Staff are helpful without being pushy! Got a bunch of tidbits to improve my cycle touring kit.
Excellent staff and selection, but I wouldn't expect less from REI. Beautiful store with easy access, assuming traffic isn't ridiculous.
Store has everything for outdoors. Bought a mountain bike and Alissa and Tom were outstanding. Thanks
Curbside pick up went well! Seems like they're still getting used to the process, the website check in didn't work, but calling the store solved that.
i love this store......associates were very knowledgeable and friendly. i got my down winter jacket there. very warm and i love it.
Staff is super helpful, the equiptment is top notch, and being an REI member in the co-op can get you some great deals !
Brought my bike in which needed a immediate tire repair and it was fixed within half a hour. Great service and fast repair
REI's Tim and Jason: Thx for your help and your enthusiasm. Nothing like hikers to help in selecting hiking equipment. Thank you.
Every time I go when there there stiv people to help me and I can't believe their knowledge Even about stocks
Not my home store so took a minute to find the socks I went specifically for but otherwise great!
Expert advice! All the latest products!
Free same day in store pickup for online orders is nice. Always helpful staff!
Knowledgeable and super helpful staff!
Just joined the co-op today with no regrets. Everyone there was so helpful and so knowledgeable.
Very helpful people. Nice store for all your camping needs.
I like REI, but their stuff seems over priced. They sent coupons but couldn't use because it was on sale
Love this store. I do wish they had a larger selection of products.
This is where I buy my trail runners and I definitely give the shoe department a 5 out of 5
Always a great trip... Although I didn't work with anyone this time.
I had an item to return and they couldn't have been nicer. Love shopping REI.
Great variety and a must go place before planning on any backcountry trip!
Nice store, prices are a little high, but great selection.
A little pricey, but great products and knowledgeable/friendly staff!
