We had a good week camping here. We had never been here before and I have to admit on arrival seeing the road that goes into the campground, I was scared of what what we were headed into. Our site was nice and spacious but beware some are not. Do your homework. The road in and out of the campground is in desperate need of repairs. I discussed this with the park manager who explained bids were in for repairs and they are waiting for budget approval. The day use part of the park is very nice including roads. Nice hiking trail around the water and spillway, playground for the kids, rental paddle boats and kayaks are available. We even did a little fishing... Not much luck, just some small bream pecking at our hooks. Park was very clean. The staff were all friendly and helpful.

Nice little State Park. It was one of the sixteen in South Carolina that was built by the CCC. We walked along the nature trail that surrounded the lake. It was an easy loop trail that circled around the lakes and had some great views. We saw a baby deer, multiple birds, butterflies, turtles, and dragon flies along the way. The park store has limited hours and was closed while we were there. They have kayaks and john boats for rent, but I only saw two of each. Admission to this park is free and looks like a great place to go fishing.

This park has some amazing views as you travel along the hiking trail around the lake. If you like to fish there is a pier you can use or take your boat out like some of the people, I saw out there. Playground equipment for the kids to enjoy and picnic areas you can use.

Our family really enjoyed this park! The road needs some TLC, but the sites are great and almost all of them are level. The park hosts were great and even called us when they found we had left our Hammock. The rangers were all super nice and renting boats and fishing gear was cheap and easy. They also have a corn snake you can hold named Pee Dee (or Petey not really sure which) and if it's geocaching you love, there are 10 here! The bathrooms were also remodeled while we were here (April 2022).

We were in cabin 3. The cabin was clean and well stocked. The park rangers were very nice. We walked the trail and saw lots of woodpeckers. The park is clean and quiet. The towns nearby don't have much so bring your supplies and groceries. We will probably visit again in the spring. The prices are great.

Excellent park with clean and well maintained trails, camp sites and restrooms. New picnic tables were being distributed while there. Rangers are helpful, kind and courteous. $5 for 1 hr boat rental (kayaks, paddle and fishing boats) is a great bargain. Small lakes are beautiful with many fishing spots; Lilly pads and flowers are stunning, no frogs could be found. Will certainly return.

Kinda small but well kept up. Good fishing. Nice easy going trails. Camp site 12 looks like the best campsite in my opinion... Spaced out further away and backed up to the woods.

Had a great time tent camping. Bathroom was close by like website said and was clean and never ran out of toilet paper. Showers had hot water and good pressure. The trails were really cool and nice. Was impressed especially with nature trail. Did not see any gators which I was hoping to. The swimming area was not open yet during my visit but it looked clean and marked off well. The rangers were nice and friendly. Made great memories with my wife and 2 dogs. Great pictures to cuz the scenery was nice. Well kept park. Will be back.

We really enjoyed our stay. Great trail that goes along all three ponds. We saw the gator in the second pond after hearing mixed stories about which one they are in. Great experience for all! The water in the bath house had a smell and that would be my only complaint.

No admission fee. Surprising for such a lovely place. I was not interested in fishing but met some people from barnwell who go there to fish. Everyone was so friendly and willing to talk and share their fishing experiences. Enjoyed a walk around the lake and stayed in the cabins which were awesome!

The bathrooms are clean and the RV spaces are nice. There are more Trails than are listed on the website or on the Internet. The trail around the lake is easy and there are lots of cool spiders to see. There are a network of trails through a Pine Grove area across the street. We walked a total of 4 miles and did not complete all the trails.

What a great time! With electric and water, it's a camper's paradise. Plenty of trails to explore and the park rangers here are awesome. Clean bathrooms that are heated and well cared for. A must-visit.

A little Rough Around the Edges but has a nice rustic feel, nice views of the lake from the loop trail around the lake, only negative is doesn't open till 9 a.m. office no open till 11 a.m. ,otherwise very nice

This was our first camping trip and we chose Barnwell because of its proximity to home. We were very pleased with the facilities. We were on campsite 8 which was spacious and close to the bathhouse. There were very few people camping in the park so it was very quiet while we were there. The camp hosts we helpful and kind. Plenty of fishing and swimming opportunities and the rangers we friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend!

This is an unassuming park with no fancy signage, friendly Rangers, beautiful scenery, and excellent cabin accommodations. We arrived on a Thursday afternoon and departed on Saturday. Cabin 1 had everything we needed to feel as if we were home: cable TV, WiFi, fully equipped kitchen (including a Hamilton Beach FlexBrew/traditional coffee maker/ pods with coffee and extras in a straw basket), light blocking shades, locally made quilts on 2 queen size beds with extra pillows, hairdryer/nightlight in the bathroom (safety bars for us old folks), and TWO sleeper sofas (wish we'd invited family). Outside was a picnic table, charcoal grill, and fire pit with chairs. For $6, a Ranger dropped off a cord of wood for us that was plenty for two fires for both of our nights here. Check in was at 4PM, and hours at the Ranger station were 4-5PM, and 11-12. When we checked out, we left the 2 keys on the kitchen table since check out was 10AM. During the day we walked the two nature trails and walked around the lake near the Ranger station. We also explored Blackville, looking for historical places in The BLACKVILLE HERITAGE TRAIL brochure. We stopped at the Piggly Wiggly for groceries so we could make our own meals at the cabin. At night we enjoyed relaxing around the fire we built in the fire pit. Up above, we saw a lot of stars, but not as many as we'd hoped due to a nearby street light (for safety). A nice perk at this state park was the welcome gift delivered by Ranger Brandon Friday morning: locally made gifts (honey, soap & lip balm). This was the perfect touch to a perfect stay!

A very quiet quaint little Park. Has boats you can use at no expense on the three to four acre pond. Lot of people fishing, good campsites. Also has a event building and walking trails. There are playgrounds and facilities available. Makes for a good day out.

It is an older state park without many upgrades. The cabin we stayed in was nice and the campground looked quiet and shady, but the road leading to it was terrible.

Their were young people taking prom/graduation pictures. The scenes there warrant such. The water was so calming and the trees as well as the boardwalks were idea nature trails. It was very relaxing and sublime. My grandson enjoyed the park that is also there.

This park is a very clean and peaceful place and we enjoyed our week long stay. The only complaint is that the state needs to improve the roads leading to the camp sites. We had great space between RV's and was glad to have a full hook up with everything working.

Love this place. Staff is always helpful. We have a great little fishing spot where we are always able to catch fish. Also a very peaceful and quiet place. Great weekend or weekday get away. Clean bathrooms. Great little hiking trails. We still have one we need to hike.

It was OK. I would give it a higher rating but for being a location for fishing we nor anyone else while we were there caught anything. Only 2 easy hiking trails, and after turning off of main entrance road the road leading into camp grounds was Horrible. Just about lost my 2500 in a couple of the holes in the road.

Lovely forest setting with a lake that allows fishing, swimming, canoeing, and kayaking. There is a playground, information station, bathrooms, changing rooms, and showers. On site are covered picnic areas with grills and bathrooms nearby and cute octogonal, two- bedroom cabins for rent. There is also a large community center that may be rented for events. Campsites with Camper hookups as well as primitive sites located on the lake. All rentals should be booked well in advance because they fill up fast! Beautiful maintained trail around the entire lake and woods trails for hiking on property.

The park is clean, our camp site was awesome right near the trail entrance. The Ranger was so nice and is eager to go out of his way for you. The kids had a wonderful time on the boats, very relaxing.

Needs some work but not a bad park. Roadways are pretty bad and an asphalt guy would have a field day there. Our friends stayed in a cabin and it was renovated and VERY nice. Campground sites were in need of maintenance but worked ok. The campground bathroom was a small, old building with flaky paint however it was very clean inside. Looks like the lake would be really nice for fishing had I been more prepared. Overall, we would stay here again but would love to see some maintenance funding get into the budget. I forgot to take some review photos.🤨

This is a well maintained park. Small. Quiet. A few full hookups. Shower house very clean. Park rangers seen multiple times a day. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Small fishing pier by campsites. Heron hanging out there. Several people coming off the hiking trails. They said they too were well maintained. Would definitely stay at this park again.

Very clean, bathrooms are cleaned every day. My mom and my grandma came here to spend the weekend and we had a really great time. You can kayak, fish, hike, and have huge campfires. I loved it and will come back.

Nice small park. Enjoyed walking the trails. The fish must not of been biting because my husband didn't catch any😉. Only complaint I have was there were lots of dogs in the campground and the owners did not clean up behind them. That's the owners fault, not the parks. The office is only open 2 hours a day.

This is truly a gem for Barnwell County. There are walking trails and a playground for children. My family and I grilled out at one of the unoccupied shelters which was really nice. The grounds are well maintained and it can be a peaceful haven watching the water. If you haven't visited in a while I recommend stopping by.

Loved our visit. We stayed in cabin2 and it was wonderful. Beds were soft and the cabin was clean as a whistle. Staff was super friendly and polite. Small park but real nice to get away from the huusle and busle of every day.

Nice park to walk around, lots of tall trees so it's nice and shady. It's peaceful and relaxing with the pond and man-made waterfalls. We went today to walk around, the playground is still restricted and so is the trail but we were able to walk on the driveway, which is not busy.

My husband and I stayed in of the cabins for the weekend. Mr. Eddie and Brandon were more than accommodating! The cabin was clean and full of everything you could need. We generally tent camp but this was a birthday trip, quite a wonderful difference! The park is clean and quiet and the cabins give you plenty of privacy. We will definitely be back!

We always love going here. The Rangers are always very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. We love taking hikes, geocaching, and seeing how many species of mushrooms we can find. We have fished, boated, and swam here too. Always have fun. Free admission which is nice too.

The park is located in a quiet area which was wonderful. Although, the roads are in desperate need of repair or new paving. The water went out one day and the rangers were working on it ASAP. They got it working that day! The park is clean. I would recommend the park to anyone who likes the country and peace and quiet.

Have you seen the cabins? They are absolutely beautiful!! Very fairly priced & has everything you need with enough room to accommodate a large family comfortably. 2 night minimum but so worth it, you'll wish you stayed longer, no matter how long you stay. Beautiful place. Swimming, fishing, playground, & there are even several geocaches if you're looking for an adventure. Beautiful Barnwell, South Carolina.

Small amount of camping sites, makes for getting to know your neighbors. Very quiet this weekend. The full service sites are recently packed with a sandy base. Makes for a neat site. Nice trail for biking around the park that takes you through the woods and around the lakes. The trail has a board walk on parts of it.

Awesome park! It's a smaller park - I'd say cozy. There's still a lot to do though, trails, volley ball court, boat rentals and more. They also have a really nice event building right on the lake. Make sure to check out the dam area built by the CCC in the early 1900's - very cool! This is a great park to camp at, hold an event or just visit for the day.

Wonderful park, great people that work there but absolutely FILLED with fire ants. In the summer you can't walk without getting bit and forget about having a picnic. I wish they'd try to find a remedy to this, it would be so much better without them.

A true showing of southern hospitality. Tent camped there while riding our bicycles across the USA. We got held up there due to heavy rain, and were stuck in the tent for 30 hours . The camp host was more than gracious, and even brought us some firewood. She came by regularly to make sure that we were ok. Our clothes had gotten wet, and one of the park rangers offered to take them to his home and dry them for us. It's a beautiful park, well maintained, with very clean and warm bathrooms. We would definitely recommend it to others, and we will visit again (maybe on the return trip) Thank you Aiken state Park staff

We went during covid. We didn't really explore this place. We stopped along the way to Charleston and walked around to stretch our legs. The park was beautiful and I was surprised by how close you could get to the water without having to talk to anybody. We didn't really explore the park, so I'm sure there was a lot more to see.

Small quiet park with clean services and friendly rangers. Sites were big and the bath house was super clean. There was a swimming area to take advantage of since the weekend we went was hot. If you are staying longer than the weekend several sites have sewer hookups.

Recently, I was here for a mini conference and experienced my first time staying in one of the cabins. The cabins were clean and very accommodating to myself and three others. Everyone had there own sleeping place, everything worked as needed.

It was nice. Except the toilet didn't work because there was no water and we had a big crowd with lots of children. Other than that and the rain it was great. Not blaming anyone except Mother nature for the rain.

Small camping area. Restrooms were clean. Camp sites are mostly on soft sand that gets everywhere. Dump station was out of order. They were still cleaning up from hurricane Matthew and a more recent tornado. Camp hosts and park ranger were very nice and helpful.

Barnwell state park is a very great place to visit as a day park with great fishing and if you want to rent a john boat to fish or paddle the beautiful pond. The cabins or great to enjoy and the campground is great to stay in for peace and quiet. The staff here or the best and great to talk to for any thing. Mr. Eddie will tell all you need to know especially about fishing the ponds. So when you visit y'all have a great time. And when meet Ben give a pat on his head lol he'll also greet you a smile just like the other staff.

Easy to find. Camper sites are sand so the are easy on the feet. Plenty of shade. Ponds are really nice. All three! Boat rental needs some work. 3 boats leak. Great fishing. Fish need to grow some!!. Road to campsites really rough. Take it slow, you will be ok. Great bathhouse. Area activities are good. Campground is close to small towns, Black ville and Barnwell, in case you need supplies. We will visit again.

One of the trails is still closed from a tornado from approximately a year ago, no idea when it's going to reopen. The open trail is about 2 miles long and is easy as far as hiking trails go. There's rustic camping, a few cabins, fishing, and a swimming area.

What a delightful park. We walked thr trail around the lakes. It was not difficult. We saw a variety of birds. Would love to stay in a cabin one weekend. It seems very peaceful

What a great place to be! The park was quiet, and it wasn't too far away from the grocery store or restaurants. It has a bath area and restrooms. There are activities such as fishing that I didn't do. I did enjoy my morning walk because it was peaceful.

Very quiet State Park. Campground is on a hilltop of hickory trees behind the lake. Great fall setting. Be attentive to grade indications for campsites if in an RV.

My husband and I took our nephew to the park and spent the whole day there. Great place to fish, hike, picnic, and we even found a geocache! Facilities were kept up very well and the park was very clean.

We came down for a funeral and needed to stay 2 weeks. We could not get a sewer site because they were all reserved for the weekends. The sewer sites should be reserved for the one week vivsitors . The weekenders can easily use the the dump station.

Nice campgrounds. Clean restrooms and showers. It has a swimming area, cabins and picnic shelters for rent. We camped for about $18 a night with water and electric. It wasn't very crowded. Quite a few open campsites left. For the price, I would definitely come back!

It is small and beautiful with abundant wildlife. The rangers are very knowledgeable about local history. The only reason this park did not het 5 stars is that there is no camp host and it shows in the bathhouse.

Being outdoors in nature is a great way to get much needed fresh air and exercise while practicing social distancing. Barnwell has 3 small lakes full of crappie, bream, bass and catfish. I'm not a fishing guy but it's recommended at Barnwell!

The campsite was spacious but could be closer to the pond area. The onsite restrooms were well-maintained. Some of the pond areas are overgrown with vegetation and in need of upkeep.

Store hours are 11 to 12 and 4 to 5. So if you drive 2 plus hours to get to the park to get a walking stick medallion, you are screwed if you miss those times

Great place, love everything about it, only thing that was an issue is camp site 3 needs to be look at on either moving the fire ring or better draining for when it rains, fire ring is in an area where water doesn't drain and fills up the camp site

Trails are overgrown. You completely lose the trails in places. Fallen trees need cleared. There is no waymarking on the trails.

Very nice small State Park campground was small, quiet, and clean, with a very nice can't host. The bathhouse look told from the outside, but was well-appointed and designed inside. Hikes around the park were pleasant on well maintained trails. The fishing ponds were pretty in the morning as fog was rolling off of them.
