Reviews of Bloomingdale Trail Park
A beautiful trail for walking, running, cycling etc. It is about 2.7 miles long. It is clean and well structured. I like how they indicate how many miles you've traversed on the ground. Hiking here is a great way to shed some calories or improve your fitness in general.
I enjoy running on this trail, which is by my house, but I would drive to it if it was further. The trail is about 3 miles long, so for my short runs, this is an awesome place to run. But sometimes, in the evening hours, it can be crowded, and some of the walkers do not have the courtesy of walking close to one another and do not leave enough room for runners. Some cyclists do let you know they are on your left, but some are going too fast, and it can be dangerous for everyone. Hopefully, as time goes by, we get to enjoy the trail by having everyone in mind when we are enjoying it, leaving some space so we can all enjoy it.
During the winter, there are people traveling to work while others are walking and running but it is less crowded.
The views were gorgeous, atleast during the time I walked through the trails. It was very peaceful, you can see people passing through riding bikes and having fun. The people I passed by were so kind! The trails had lots of flowers and veins along the railings and it made the view so much more worth it.
This trail is converted from an old unused rail line. What a great way to transform an urban space. I love this!
Best inner-city path for walking, running and biking! Gives an above ground perspective with lots to see! No cars allowed but there are speeding bikers.
Great 2.7 mile trail in northwest Chicago. Couldn't believe the amount of flowers along the trail! Many spots to access it from streets below. Water fountains were plentiful. 2 officers were walking in full gear - should have been on bikes or Segways though - no way were they going run to an area along the trail or chase anyone down if something happened. A lot of people were on the 606. Very friendly. Felt safe with my family. My daughter goes there often and now I know why.
Great job Chicago! 👍👍👍
Need to fix the one big bump at the bridge at the highway end though (where trail meets the bridge at the new kids park). 1" plus lip. Daughter took a hard spill on rollerblades because she didn't see it on a trail that was perfectly smooth for 2.699 miles 😫
My first time visiting here. A really nice trail. Always something to see and you can stop and grab a bite to eat at many of the restaurants along the way.
Easily one of the best parks in the city. Although it can get pretty packed (especially on weekends) it’s totally worth wading through the crowds. Seating available at most interchanges. So fun! A must see if visiting from out of town!
This place is OK. In terms of trails in Chicago, you're better off with the lakefront if you're looking for a view and breeze. All the graffiti to look at is actually underneath the trail so you'll need to walk on the street to see it.
Its a beautiful place to take a walk or a run its has a nice scenery to it
I run here 3x per week. Honestly the best - well maintained and clean.
It's a great paved walkway to get away from vehicle traffic. Yes, some of the cyclists are out of control and so are some of the folks walking their dogs; life in the city involves dealing with inconsiderate people. The landscaping is nicely done. There is a very nice park at the east end for younger kids and a nice scenic overlook st the west end (see pic). In between you have plenty of opportunities to exit at smaller playlots or even an occasional cafe. It's a fantastic re-use of decommissioned railway.
It's a great place to walk your dogs, go jogging or ride your bike. It's clean beautiful and safe. Love it!
Love walking, pedestrians have right of way regardless I do not have eyes behind my head people on bikes need to respect that, slow down I do not like walking on rubber too hot
Great stream of tranquility above the bustle of streets with crazy drivers, giving a refreshing perspective on the city and incentive to get fresh air and some exercise.
Great space to get outside and play. Frequent exits, seating areas, easy to distance from others.
Well made trail to stroll, run, or bike along if you have some free time. Beautifully planted with a variety of perrenials and shrubs.
As a cyclist, I find it a little narrow. As a pedestrian, it is pleasant.
My favorite miss it wish there was one in San juan Pr. The view is amazing...
What a great place to walk, jog or ride a bike. I walked with my dog and got a work out. This is the best thing to happen to Humboldt Park, bring life back to a gorgeous park that needs more people to see what it is really like. What an asset to the community!
There are many rails to trails in the world, but this is well taken care of, and open to a variety of people. I think of democracy when I'm here. One finds a diversity of human beings. Each of us pursuing our thing differently. It is in this sense, a great public space.
One could disparage the increases in property values that's this brought & contribution to gentrification. However, take another look at a generally free and public space, open to all, encouraging health and community and I'd say the positives far outweigh the negatives. There was excellent planning on the dual tracking on each side making room for all. What a great Chicago space.
Really nice trail inside the city….
Great place to get some exercise! Paths are new and large for a smooth ride. There are cushioned running paths on the sides as well. There are water fountains and benches every so often. Dog and family friendly. One warning - there isn't much shade, so if you're out on a hot day, be prepared. But the beautiful foliage on the side of the paths make it worth it.
Awesome biking and running path with lots of little spots to sit and chill along the way. Especially nice at night to ride your bike when there is way less people.
They really did a nice job with this trail. It feels more like a natural hike through a park and not a stilted green space in the city. The paths are paved and easily accessible. Only real drawback is that this trail is so popular and you'll need to look out for scooters and bikes.
Love this trail. It's unique because it's a converted rail for the train, and it gives decent views of the neighborhoods it crosses. The trail spans 2.7 miles, so you can make a decent workout out of it. Makes running very convenient. Plenty of stops to get off and trail markers every .1 mile.
The arrangement of the plantings makes this a special place to walk through. Access to the businesses along the way means you could spend a lot of time exploring the area on foot or bike.
This place is absolutely lovely! A bit crowded when it's warmer out, but very nice. I love walking along the trail with friends and there are always puppies around!
A really nice trail for biking - elevated above the roads with no crossings to worry about, well-maintained and landscaped. Shared with joggers and walkers but not remotely as congested as the lakefront trail, easy to keep up a good pace without worrying about running into anyone. I just wish that it was longer.
This is my goto running path in the city and it's awesome. Somehow it's a novelty getting to run for 5 miles without having to stop and/or be alert to wait for a light to change or dodge a car, dog, squirrel, rat, biker.... It's also really beautifully landscaped with a grove of aspen trees, nice sumacs and a wide variety of landscaping that's nice to look at. There's even some elevation changes that breaks up the monotony. Make sure to check it out if you get a chance!
Excellent place to take a walk or a run with out traffic lights or worries of cars. Enjoy the beautiful plant life and neighborhoods as you go from one side of the city to another.
Great for bike rides. Scenic and not too crowded. Lots of places to rest tho because of covid 19 all water fountains along the trail are turned off for now
Beautiful walking path but the path is too narrow and cyclists go by so fast you feel like your life is in danger. I've already seen two pairs of cyclists crash into each other and in one of the occasions they were pretty badly hurt. The path is too narrow for calm peaceful walking with crazy cyclists around. Be careful if you have small kids as they could get hurt.
One of the best trails in chicago. Its just awesome
Very nice trail. Would be nice if you walk section was a little wider but it's padded so I feel like it's a fair trade off. Nice spots to stop off and sit for a break. I imagine when it's warm and things are bloomed it'll. Be even prettier.
Despite what you may hear in the news the trail is great. A good place for a walk, jog, bike ride or taking the dog out. Clean and secure. Of course who the hell is out in the middle of the night on the trail, you'd be asking for trouble in any part of the city. We live in Chicago, have some common sense or street smarts.
I give it 5 stars for being well kept, peaceful, and having some interesting side paths and views -- *unless* you are on it during one of the busy times. For example, weekends or early evenings between April-October. There are just way too many people on it for how wide it is -- bikers go way too fast, people don't keep on eye on their kids and dogs, and I've really held my breath a couple of times watching near collisions. It's only a matter of time before some kid gets really badly hurt during one of these rush periods. Otherwise it's a great trail.
I love skateboarding and riding my bike on it. I'm only giving it 4 stars because near the end there are the metal bridges that are really annoying to go over and there are little divots, but thats only a complaint for skateboarding. Other than that the pavement is super smooth and its a joy to ride on!
My family and I really enjoyed walking the trail. It's perfect for biking, rollerblading, walking, or running. We can't wait to go back once the weather turns warmer.
Nice trail to walk, run and ride bicycle. But for some political reason the electric scooters is not allowed, why? There are many cool bridges with individual design. Also it is nice place to look for Chicago townhouses.
Being close to where I live I'm on this path all the time. The path is fantastic for kids and adults. There's a few playgrounds along the path. One is at the current east end (Ashland) and there is another one just west of Humbolt Drive. Sometimes it's super busy when the weather is nice so walkers and kids just need to be mindful of cyclists. Cyclists should also be considerate and understand that everyone needs to share this great aspect I the neighborhood. Many people also use this to commute east - west everyday. This really is one of the best investments that was made in the community.
Great for bikeing my only concern is that anyone walking there dogs or sight seeing need to pay more attention to bikers. I get that there is only a small space available for walkers but just recently I was bikeing up behind an older lady, rang my bell 2 times and she walked across the trail and I almost ran into her. That's all you have to watch out for
Great trail to go for a run or bike ride
This trail is the best. Wonderful way to get around walking or biking without needing to deal with traffic. Beautiful landscaping, many parks along the way. And donut shops nearby!
Great trail to walk and be on.
Very relaxing and tranquil it also makes a good place to jog or bicycle ride.
Be sure to walk with another person for safety.
We need to monitor and ensure the safety of all those who use the Trail. It is a wonderful place. On the other hand, It is becoming more crowded and high-speed bicyclists have become a danger to those folks who are not alert.
Great place for running and biking. Tends to get packed during the weekend.
Great trail with a few nice parks directly off the trail or very near. Gets busy in the evening and during nice weather so don't expect to go for a good run it but ride in and amount of hurry during those times.
Wonderful, miles long trail that is up and above traffic. Great views of city. A truly wonderful repurposing of an unused railroad track. Sometimes, it gets a bit crowded with inconsiderate pedestrians, bike riders going way too fast and path hogging parents with Buick size baby buggys. Well lit at night. A police presence is needed as many crimes have been reported. Bring a friend.
Great place to run, jogg, bicycle, or for a walk with the family.
The best it's like being on the lakefront jogging or biking or walking. Best time to go is on off peak hours. You can get off any of the numerous ramps and visit a coffee shop or restaurant and then get back on.
Last Friday June 7, 2019 my school had a field trip over there for 7th and 8th grade. We had an hour walk and had fun. But the only thing that I don't like about it is that we have to walk. Once we made it to the park, we had fun until 2:45 PM. Once we got back on the trail, we started to run and walk. Then we got to school and chilled until we are dismissed. Once we all got home, our legs down to our feet were in pain. But the 606 I like it.
The Bloomingdale Trail is awesome, walked it from Western to Ridgeway and back to Ashland and back to Western had an awesome time doing this this is now one of my favorite trails for walking.
I'm such a fan of the 606. It's a terrific resource for bike commuters. Initially I expected it was just a decoration that would ultimately boost property values for landlords. Maybe that's a big part of it, but I've seen so many different folks up there that it's definitely better than my first very cynical set out expectations
Awesome place to run, walk or bike..just remember proper etiquette and watch out for the rude bikers that dont respect. Best time to enjoy is early morning around 9 to 10am or during the lunch hours.in the evening get's crowded.
An outstanding trail for a walk, bike ride, or commute. Like the rest of Chicago's parks, it should be open to commuters 24/7 but unfortunately, it closes at 11. That's the only thing keeping the trail from being perfect.
Elevated trail, 2.7 miles long, with markings every 0.1 miles - perfect for shorter runs or a leisurely bike ride. The blue strip on the far right is a little cushier for runners. No traffic crossings, which is great for pedestrian safety. The west end tends to be less crowded than the east side. The water fountain at the east terminus has been broken all season, but the rest seem to be working.
Walkers are usually oblivious of their surroundings & take up too much of the roadway (sometimes even spilling over the yellow line!), but a good hearty "on your left" works maybe 50% of the time (less so if they're wearing earbuds). Even more unfortunately, some dog owners aren't great about picking up after their pets, so dodging doggy dung isn't an uncommon occurrence (gross!).
However, that's well within what you'd expect from a mixed-use trail. Try going earlier in the morning if you're there for a workout.
It's a nice trail. It cam be crowded and you have bicycles and cyclists speeding by. That's the downside. Otherwise, it's good for an exercise or just an afternoon brief walk.
Neat re-use of a former train track. There are entrances about every 2 blocks (1/4 mile). There are a few fountains around California. No bathroom facilities and not enough places to sit.
Bustling with people walking, cycling, etc. Use it to wander, get off and explore a new neighborhood.
A work in progress.
Very nice place to go for a walk, run, or bike ride on a good day!!
So fortunate to have the Bloomingdale Trail and Park in the area-it's a welcome addition in every way. It's kept up really well and new plants and the growing formerly baby plants that have gotten so big that you wouldn't think they were nowhere close 5 years ago
Love this trail, smack-dab in the middle of the city. Get to have fun on the trail with granddaughters.
Always had a great time taking a walk and stuff. Recently there's been a lot of douchey people that get super angry if you're walking a dog within the blue lines where its suppose to be for walking or jogging. It's a Park with open green area and as long as you walk your dog or walk within the blue line there should be no problems. Also please clean up after your dogs because this rat infestation in Chicago is a problem!!
Excited to see how the trail looks once all the flowers and bushes and trees have had a few years to bloom and develop. Really enjoy this, wish I still lived closer, but waiting for warmer weather to return.
Nice easy trail
Look at Chicago with this cute little trail, or better yet cute paved path. I have heard about the 606 - Bloomingdale trail by many, but now since I live a lot closer to it, I just had to see it firsthand. I have driven passed the 606 - Bloomingdale trail numerous times, and during those times I have always wondered where are its access points, but I found one the day of my visit on N Spaulding Ave/ W Bloomingdale Ave near 'Archery Bow Range Chicago'.
I about lost my mind when I entered this trail, and contemplated if I were in the right running gear, hehe. Being a serious runner, I slightly felt out of the norm, but I'll get over it. Once I entered, I saw a network socket, which I definitely have never seen on a trail before. Funny, but you can get your workout in, relax, and charge your cell phone within a reasonable time frame. Being a seasoned runner that has lived all over the United States due to serving in the military, I have experienced many trails, but none as well manicured as this. I would have to say that this trail is designed more for that casual runner, walker, or cyclist because of how its designed, and the width of it. It doesn't look like the type of trail that I could do my fartlek runs at; or let alone take a large run/ cycling group to. However, it does work for that casual looking for a peaceful trail with no worries due to it being under surveillance.
I'm quite positive that I will return to the 606 - Bloomingdale trail, but I will leave it for my shorter runs when I want peace, and to go beyond my neighborhood.
PS: Stick to the blue outter portion if you want less pounding stress on your knees.

Love the trail. The perfect local track for a 6 am morning run. Not sure about mid day weekends, but otherwise an outstanding amenity for Bucktown Wicker Park.
What a beautiful urban transformation! Great place to ride your bike or take a walk, surrounded by beautiful trees and landscaping. Highly recommended addition to Chicago's quality of life.
Beautiful walking & biking trail. Places to sit and enjoy nature along the way! Can't wait for our next walk on this beautiful trail!!
Great trail for recreational activities. Plus you can explore several of Chicago's coolest neighborhoods while walking on the trail. A must for everyone.
Nice for biking, rollerblading or just walking. Just walk around from the west end of it and get down at the restaurant area in Wicker, it is a nice morning activity!
It was great clean, safe, not too many people that early 9:00 am. Cool before the sun reach its high peak, early is good before it get too hot.
Beautiful path to walk with my baby! It’s always clean and never ever overly crowded.
Very well kept and pleasant trail. Always good for a single stroll, or dog walk, or walk with your significant other. Most beautiful in Spring and Fall.
I returned to Chicago after a 10-year absence. What a great surprise to me to see this new public walking/running/dog/biking 3 mile walkway/park. From right outside my friend's Bucktown house to 3 miles down past the Westtown neighborhood, one can do all the above without having to stop for traffic or stoplights. A truly awesome park!!
A very nice trail to exercise or just for a stroll family friendly and safe to walk your dogs
Nice trail for bike riding but one thing do not speed theres young children and babys in strollers but if they stay on the blue rubber joging tile it can be safer
Brings the community together and is a large linear space safe from automobiles. Provides a wide range of people with a healthy transportation option and runners love it.
I dont understamd why someone would rate it 2 stars for "poor work". I think its well done and super convenient. I can get to work 5 minutes faster and safer everyday. No traffic lights or cars and i can catch some nice views. Water fountains and benches at some main streets. My favorite part is Humboldt boulevard. The only annoying problem are the other people on the trail. There are alot of dog walkers, (why would someone walk a fu*****g dog up there?) The irresponsible parents who let there kids walk on ttheir left or they just let them run free. its kind of annoying having to slow down all the time. Not to mention the inconsiderate people who walk in groups along the whole left or right lane.. its a trail. People are going to bike, jog, blade, skate, walk and run on it. If your walking or jogging do so along the blue.. if your rolling fast stay more towards the outter lane. But thats just me. Just my thoughts and opinions from a native Chicagoan.
Great place to walk. I like the path but it can be a little overcrowded. Nice to people watch.
Beautiful place to either walk along or bike on. Great way stop for many different locations in Chicago that can be made accessible with just biking. Beautiful views
This linear park is one of Chicago's greatest new amenities. Walk, run, ride or just chill. It's a beautiful place to pass through or visit.
Only downside is it’s not long enough. Be wary of wind exposure in the winter. The native plants are gorgeous in the summer, a real local getaway.
One of Chicago's jewels! This trail is also called The 606. It's fascinating in how you can visually see yourself walking into a more expensive neighborhood-east bound or poorer neighborhood. That said, it's beautiful and has test strips where you can sit and watch traffic or people. Free for everyone! Caution if alone, especially at night. It's very private up there. Easy for criminals to take advantage of people. Don't let that thought scare you, though. Just go!!!!
Before moving to Chicago, I read that the Bloomingdale Trail was what the New York High Line tried to be, and I couldn't agree more. It's filled with locals, with most using the space for running, walking, and biking. Depending on which portion you're on—mostly in Wicker Park and Bucktown—there are plenty of coffee shops and stores only steps away from the trail.
Walk around a garden lined path with lots of entrances to different neighborhoods. A great way to get around this part of the city!
Winter Solstice for west end of 606 Trail.
Wow, here for a good trail, not a long trail. Beautiful trees, some benches. The end is cool
Elevated bike highway is excellent for commuting or pleasure. Be considerate with others, there isn't much wiggle room up there.
Also known as The 606. At the Western Terminus they have a place established for celebrating celestial events such as equinoxes and soltices. Feral children are a persistent challenge but it's worth the risk.
This trail is awesome, a most enjoyable walk with our 4-month old!
It is a"gotta see" for visitors and locals alike. Such a pleasant walk or ride in the city. Lots of restaurants nearby and just s couple of blocks from the Blue Line train
Love the trail. Get out an walk the trail. Watch out for owners who don't control their animals and bikers who don't signal or alert you they are passing by.
Bloomingdale Trail also known as the 606 If you're looking for a good run bike or just the walk I strongly advise the 606 path it is amazing it's beautifully structured it has plenty of seats and Brake stops as well as hills for interval training they upkeep with their Garden Ina Garten is amazing there's a lot of trees and the flowers it's amazing for all my DBZ lovers I have to say that the 606 in many ways can remind you of snake way just a less gloomy LOL and I have to say that there are plenty of parks near the 606 Highview have kids the 606 is a great way to just take them in mini bike ride and then maybe even stopped at one of its parks there are approximately 4 to 5 parks that are connected to the 606 so it's great for single mothers and or fathers with kids and even a family setting I have to say that the 606 had made my life easier as well when needing to go to certain areas I and fortunate enough to have quite a few family members live near the 606 so getting to each of their houses is less of a hassle I don't get it advise everyone to be able to go to the 606 at least once and see if it's your thing
My kids love this trail; biking, scooting, skating, ripsticking, running. There's plenty of room for all this!
This stretch or city bike/roadway is great! bUT!$Don't be on after 11pm$ the park closes there is NO security and people are getting held up and beat up.
Very nice for running and commuting with bycicle. I wish it would go further east. Illuminated by night, which is great if you run when it's dark, feels safe.
Beautiful place to jogging or just to walking . Something amazing.
Such a breath of fresh air ;). The trail is always so clean; the vantage point to see part of the City is so cool too.
Nice trail. The surrounding scenery isn't as nice as the high line in NYC. But the trail itself is nice to walk run or jog on
A very good trail for sport enthusiasts, any kind. However, it gets sometimes too crowded for more professional/extreme sports.
Don't bring your dog on the trail unless you already let it poop somewhere else. No smoking allowed. Stop letting your kids run loose that's what the playground is for
Very nice trail along some less known neighborhoods of Chicago. I just wish they had more covered places/rest areas along the way or at least water fountains for hot days
Love this trail by foot or bike. Always something interesting going on. It's well maintained, too.
For anyone on wheels a must! Flat well kept walking and riding track. Can get very busy. A Chicago must do.
Track Bike Races Occur Here So You Must Be Extremely Cautious With Cyclist This Trail Has Seen Many To All Robberies Including At Gunpoint & Machete You Want To Be With Someone Past 9Pm
This Trail Is Elevated To 6 Am Runs Be Punishing
It's prettiest the further west you go! Awesome trail, wish something could be done about the scooters though...
I love the 606. It's one of the most nicest trail that you could Train for your marathon.
Nice bike/walk path. Lots of people everyday, wish there was a bathroom somewhere. It's not completely finished yet though
One of the best and my favorite trail for running
Just went for a quick walk because it was too hot but I really like it. It's very nice!
Loved the connections between neighborhoods. Prime locations for biking if you are looking to reach certain destinations in the north side of Chicago.
Very nice place for walking.biking and running.beautiful greenery .I visited yesterday evening .With my family .
This place have playground, area where the kids can play with water, is a good for family time or by yourself sit or walk along the river to enjoy the sunset.
The trail is distinct experience, like a vibrant tunnel if nature through the city, simultaneously within and without.
Great path for running. Can get busy but nice in the middle of the city
A great trail to run, walk, run your bike, sit in the benches to rest through the trail, and there is a chicago police officers in their bikes all the time checkin
A wonderful walking path. Native Illinois plants. Beautifully taken care of. Always popular, tons of people pretty much all the time.
I love this park. It's beautifully peaceful and the trail is a great way to get around.
Nice for a little walk a bike ride or a hike. The 606 is the place to be.
Very nice neighborhood trail and fresh air. You can take your pet with you.
I love this place. Up above the neighborhood, no cars no crosswalks, just padded running tracks and lush landscaping.
Just love it. When i have time, i go with my nephews to ride bikes
Great fitness/biking trail with beautiful street art and buildings alongside it
Great for running, biking, and walking. Can get crowded on weekends and nice days.
Great place to get a walk, run or bike ride. Scenic views included.
Popular, Manicured trail with separate running lane. Nice playground at the easternmost access point.
My daughter and I walk this Trail for the first time and it was awesome beautiful scenery above the westside of Chicago could not believe
Seemed safe to me. Well lit. Have been on this well marked pleasant trail for an urban trail many times without incident.
Walk, bike, run, play. 2.7 miles of park connections with zero car traffic. Great native landscaping!
Bike/walk/run trail, mini parks throughout, well maintained. What's not to like?
Spacious two lane trail with many exits. Proper social distancing guidelines posted everywhere.
Can get crowded during the day but a sweet party at any hour. Too bad there aren’t more like it
A fun place that allows you to travel through the city with ease, bike, board, and dog friendly.
I love this trail....
Great trail, to get those steps in or a good run.
This is my favorite place to ride my bike. Only problem... It's only 3 miles long (barely)
Terrific urban trail! As good as the High Line in NYC. I wish every city had something like this.
Great for a jog or leisurely ride above the crowded city streets.
Beautiful place to be. Enjoyed a mile long walk.
