Reviews of MK Nature Center - Idaho Fish and Game
Jeanette Rodgers
The weather was warm but not hot and so the walk was very pleasant and, for the most part, shaded by the mature trees. Interesting to search for the sturgeon and the trout. Educational while being fun. Very nicely arranged with places to stop and look at information, or underwater, or at a beautiful mosaic.
Nathan Dowd
This was a great experience for elementary age kids. There were so many spots to see local wildlife! Would highly recommend for a morning excursion.
Terri Hawks
This was the first time we visited this park there wasn't a lot of animals to see I'm assuming that's because of the time of year however it was nice just to walk through and look at things the big eagles nest the kids really enjoyed they have waterfalls butterfly trails lots of interesting things to look at.
Krystal S
My favorite place in Boise! Beautiful area to walk, learn and explore with the kids or by yourself for a peaceful connection with nature.
Amanda Freeland
This place is an Idahome staple. Its a great place to see all kind of wild life. We saw a mama with her two babies this evening. So sweet. The trails and information along the way make it fun for the kiddos.
Eve McClure
Always a nice get away from the chaos of daily living... Love the deer, heron, and other wildlife. Staff is top notch 🥰
Heidi G
Such a cool place! I remember coming here when I was a kid, and it's even better than it used to be. Take time to watch for the sturgeon on the sturgeon pond! We saw two. It's a great place to bring the whole family!
K A Shauger
Great time. They have definitely made improvements and it shows.
Adam Newbold
Wonderful walking area, filled with well-kept paths and wildlife zones. It's perfect for an afternoon stroll and would be enjoyable for both kids and adults. Signage next to the animal areas is written in a fun and informative way. If you're in the area and looking for a pleasant walk within the city, this is a great choice.
Shannon Holt
I come here to relax. I’ve brought both friends and family here to show them the many wonders of the fish hatchery. I’ve always wanted to be a park ranger, and the more I come here the more motivation I get to one day achieve my dream. You can learn a lot from taking a field trip here once in a while. Who knows? You might see some deer, an owl, OR maybe Idaho’s famous sturgeon! It’s an amazing experience every single time. They’re always trying to improve the experience in any way they can❤️ So you’ll see something different each time you go there. Worth a try—if you’ve never been or find yourself bored on your day off.
Jamie Gomez
Wonderful little nature center! Lots to explore with easy to walk trails. Stroller friendly for the most part! Backs up to the green belt with easy access to the park outside.
Kylee McKenna
One of my favorite gems in Boise to share with out of town visitors. Perfect nature walk with lots to look at. I have seen deer, many birds and tons of fish. Keep an eye out for those sturgeon! 😃
TACTICAL N8
Beautiful spot nestled in the middle of Boise. Great, easy place to walk around with kids or even elderly. Kids love seeing the stream cutout sections where you can view fish and other aquatic life.
puppy neff
A very great place to go for a walk. Great park, a little shaggy, but the natural beauty of it is so nice. Also a little loud right now due to construction. Home to some great animals and fish.
William Coon
Nice place to visit several places to sit and enjoy the plants and animals. Can be crowded on the weekend so be prepared for that. There are a variety of birds, deer, rabbits, squirrels, waterfowl, and places to observe the fish in the water.
Destiney
This was such a cool treasure to find along the Greenbelt trail. It appears we were there during the off-season but there was so much to explore and you can tell a lot of love and work goes into the upkeep of the space.
Michael
One of the employees at the old state penitentiary told us about this place. He said, "you'll love it".
So, before we left Boise, we figured we'd take a look. If you come to Boise, you should spend an hour (at least) having a look at this. Beautiful walkway with a running steam, a pond, beaver dam, and plenty of wildlife.
There are several viewing ports along the path that allow you to see underwater.
There is no charge to visit and it is well worth your time. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Mike Curry
This is a family favorite place that always has great activities and information that engage all ages. I love the updated signage and ongoing work projects that improve the family fun here. It is a bonus when staff are out and about to answer questions or show off the different displays around the center.
Rachel Martinez
This was absolutely beautiful! I went with a group of friends for an afternoon outing and we all enjoyed ourselves a bunch! It would be a great place for family outings with young or older children! The flowers and little surprise corners were probably my favorite parts (not to mention FREE).
Jessica Dougherty
Love this nature walk! I have a two year old and we get so cooped up inside in the winter but bundling up and walking around to check out the fish and birds is great!
M W
Always a great place to take a walk, by yourself or with friends and family. The sturgeon pond showcases one of the coolest fish you can see in Idaho. All around great place and the butterfly garden is great when it's active. Take a visit!
Jerimiah Campbell
I always love going to this place. Just a little hidden sanctuary in the heart of Boise. There is always something cool to see. This trip we saw four deer right inside the center. On past trips we have seen beaver, and cranes, and always there are the fish. Great little place to take photos and see some local wildlife while learning about it at the same time. Plus it's free so it's a great value and fun place to take your family.
Rhiannon Ackaret
This is a very nice little nature center, I enjoyed getting to walk around and learn more while spending time in the trees and watching the wildlife. I was expecting the nature center to be a bit bigger, but it was enjoyable regardless. I definitely spent the most time near the pond with all of the sturgeon.
Santana McCool
I bring my kids and client to MK Nature center a couple for time a year. We all enjoy watching the fish through the windows and the occasional deer laying around in the trees. The museum is nice for the kids to learn about the different types of wild life in Idaho.
Hailey Maloney
Awesome place! I'm so glad someone told us about it so we could stop by while we were visiting Boise. We loved seeing the bees, birds, chipmunks and all the informative displays. We will be back when we are in Boise again!
Jeff Bennett
This is a gem tucked away in the middle of Boise. If you get there early in the morning the place is booming with wildlife from deer, to birds, to frolicking squirrel. They even have a 6' long sturgeon! My family loved this place and I have already been back 4 times this year. The rear entrance/exit even dumps you out onto the Boise Greenbelt for added fun and wildlife.
Heather Maxey
We love the nature center. We are always seeing wildlife and enjoying teaching our kids about nature, our water systems, and being responsible. It's a great place to take kids of every age.
Niomi Castellanos
Free fun for all ages! The kiddos loved it, grandma and my aunt too! Lots of educationalresources. Will come back again. They have explanations on different animals, species, breeds, circle of life, plants both native and invasive. Their are plenty of fish and birds, squirrels, ducks and geese to see. Such a fun experience. I recomend this place to everyone. All ages. Tons of fun.
Brad Harrison
The grounds are well kept, even got within a few feet of a doe, while she grazed. Cool place!
Valerie Donahoe
I've lived here for years and never visited. It was a nice way to spend some time in the shade on a hot day. We were lucky to get a glimpse of the sturgeon!
Mary Wyman
We spent a few hours strolling through the MK Nature Center. There was plenty to see and do. We saw lots of butterflies and birds, fish, a waterfall and there were activities that were fun and interactive. We learned a lot
Mike Julson
Just moved back to the state after being gone over a decade. Places like this for the reason I moved back. My hat's off to Idaho Parks and Rec Department this place is awesome, just what I needed after being cooped up is a nice walk through a well-kept the area that's absolutely beautiful
Michael E
Really well thought out and designed with many great animal displays and nature displays. The sturgeon and trout in the pond were huge! Really nice habitat. Well thought out
steph lake
Still awesome like when I was a teenager, we called this place "the fish" and loved hanging out there. Tonight was still a great time!
Jerry Grissett
Did a walk through while walking the green belt. Good place to take the kiddo's. Lots to see on the trails. Didn't go through the main building
James K
Great place to bring kids and adults. My son loves to explore this place and he took a lot of amazing pictures!
KaDee McBride
This place is a nice quiet place to enjoy nature while in the city of Boise. You can enjoy sitting on one of the many blinds or benches throughout. while watching fish, deer, river otters, and birds of all kinds. They have many learning opportunities for all ages and offer many different classes. At the end of your walk you can stop in next door. there you will find a lovely park to have a pic-nic and have the kids ware off more energy.
Rachel Luttrull
The MK Nature Center was such a fun experience for my daughter and niece. I couldn’t believe it was nestled between a construction site and an apartment complex. It’s a nice little FREE outing for littles❤️
N B
Nice nature spot to bring the whole family. Best of all its free but they do take donations. Its not a Zoo so dont expect to see anything other than squirrels and birds and lots of fish.
astryd savage
I absolutely love taking my boys here! It's so much fun and so very beautiful. lots of flora and fauna! 🌱🌲🦌🦝🦊 …
Diana Jenkins
This is a great place to get out and enjoy nature if you don't have time to take a long drive.
Bella Gold
Very beautiful walk through riverbay, several places to fish or just lounge around.
Ashley V.
Usually a nice place to take the family to see the fish and trails, but this year it looks a little run-down. Hopefully next year will be better.
Sean Jorgensen
Great place to take your family for fun and exercise. Took my family to the formal backyard for a picnic and it was so much fun. If you want to see the 7ft sturgeon go on Friday at 1 when they feed him.
Heather Gaya
A small nature center but great walking paths. There's some slight inaccuracies in the snake area - the word "poisonous" is used instead of "venemous" but otherwise good exhibits. We also bought some good quality quail feed from the gift shop for a good price.
Ethan Park
I loved it here there was so much beutifull wildlife and the people working there were so nice it was very healthy and biodiverse I was able to get lots of wildlife photos
Jacee Lyn
I love walking through here. You are able to see huge fish swimming under a beautiful winding bridge. There are small aquariums with small fish and details about them. Often times you will see ducks, geese, owls, herring and other such birds. In the early summer it's so picturesque!
I. D.
This is amazing. I hadn't been here for several years. They've fixed it up and added newer stuff.
sherry farmer
Awesome walking path. Peaceful and quiet. Great learning experience for kids.
Eric Z
Awesome place to take your kids and spend some time exploring nature. Glass cutouts in the creek to see the trout and crayfish. If you're patient enough, you'll catch a glimpse of the resident Mink diving into the creek to try and catch crayfish.
barbara badigian
This nature center was a wonderful surprise..had a lovely time walking through and seeing all they had to offer..recommend for families

Ernie Payne
Needs a little maintenance but nice walk
astryd savage
beautiful place to take a short walk and feel like you're out of the city!
Paul Hart
I have always loved this place. Sad to see that the fish with computer chip are no longer there. It was fun to put the hand held on the aquarium glass and see all the info on the fish.
Jake Stockinger
Absolutely wonderful for an afternoon walk. Lots to see and a cute little creek to hang out at!
Aaron Jones
Great place for a nice walk and a little education about fish and wildlife.
Jeremiah Strobeck
This place is fantastic. They have upgraded over the years and it's a really neat thing to do with your children. I take my two-and-a-half-year-old here all the time.
Charley Rains
The grandkids loved it!
Barbara Kuehl
This has been a favorite excursion place for us for many years...
It was so good to see all the upgrades that they've been able to get done. Best nature center within the city, any city in my belief.
Right by the Boise river.
It was also neat that they were able to place a unable to fly peregrine in the enclosure for us to enjoy.
Great free place to explore learn and enjoy. Indeed family friendly and great for little ones.
Bob Huzz
Great wild life and the trails were wonderful
Alexandria Cooper
A beautiful little family-friendly escape inside Boise. Two deer hung out with me on part if the trail this time. I took a picture of one when it went to lay down.
Ray B
Good place for people to read, meditate, and quietly explore the flora and fauna on the grounds! No dogs, no riding bikes, no rollerblading, and no fishing allowed here!
Chase Kingsley
Sometimes you can spot a sturgeon in the ponds with lots of other fish too!
Adam Castellanos (Boise Boyz)
The most amazing fish big rainbow trout huge sturgeon swimming around in the ponds that you can clearly see truly amazing what ducks and wildlife abundant a must see perfect for field trips for kids
Mega Lodon
I love taking my kids here. There is a greenbelt right on the river, with a nice place to get in the water away from the flow of the river. Great for children. Park with tons of large trees and a nice playground. Barbeque pits and picnic tables. The nature center is right in the middle of it all and has some beautiful scenery and fun things for kids to do and learn about nature. Sometimes you see deer come through or other wild animals to sip from the creek that runs through it. Big sturgeon, salmon and other fish swim around for you to enjoy. Just an all around beautiful area. Its a must see.
Sharayah sherry

Kenneth Couch
Very cool park... A MUST SEE...
Alex Simmonds
Great place right if the Green Belt. My kids love looking at all the critters they have and learning everything there is to know about each one.
Raul Cuellar
Small but highly informational nature center. Perfect for kids
Jaime Myers
Great place to get out, walk around and look at some fish. This place is very well set up for kiddos and has great shade cover for summer months.
Bonus points to the employee going around and sanitizing the glass where kids touch.
It is free to get in and I think due to covid donations are hurting. The gardens are normally (well from what I remember as a kid) very beautiful. It doesn't look like they were touched this year.
Bonnie Bair
Very fun place to explore! Great for families!
Melissa Egan
Great place for kids. There are many interactive parts that my children loved. They went into the eagles nest and hollow log. We enjoyed watching fish and ducks. I think they enjoyed it as much as going to the zoo. There was lots of shade.
Chris Hall
Absolutely the coolest thing to entertain my 5 year old for 45 minutes. Beautiful, peaceful, quiet...
We saw monster rainbow trout and a huge sturgeon, a garter snake, beautiful plants.
Richard Sanders
Great nature trails and connections to Boise greenbelt. Wonderful viewing for trout and sturgeon.
Lisa MT
Nice little nature garden in Boise. No charge to get in and walk around. Peaceful and relaxing and they have a 30 year old Sturgeon which is a fish that was around in the time of dinosaurs! It's 7 feet long too. Cool. My son said that he loves this place winter and spring because of lots of blooming flowers. I think I love it too.
Diego Hilleary
A lovely, shaded little park with lots of water and a ton of really cool fish. No dogs or bikes are allowed, which means I often see deer or other wildlife. Definitely worth a walk!
Neal Jones
Such an amazing place! Really nice exhibits with great information!
Ola L
I absolutely love coming here! It's one of my favorite places in Boise.
I remember coming as a kid and it seems even better now!
I've learned quite a lot of little facts just from reading the information spots!
I had NO IDEA that salmon travel downriver TAIL FIRST on their way to the ocean!
I didn't know sturgeon had been around since dinosaur times!!!! Love bringing my family here!
David Roberts
My wife and I discovered this place by accident while walking along the Greenbelt. It was very peaceful on a chilly but bright December late Sunday afternoon. We enjoyed seeing the fish under water right the glass, the surgeon pond, the walk-in replica eagle's nest and the petroglyph stone. It's a beautiful little gem. It's places like this that make Boise such a great place to live.
RYAN FRISCO
Wow, this is definitely worth a visit! Well designed and maintained nature area loaded with streams, ponds, viewing areas and informative signs. I loved the sturgeon pond! It was a little tough to see with the reflection on the water, but thankfully the sturgeon were hanging out at the contrasting white sand bottom, they were maybe between 4-6 feet long. Quite impressive! Thanks for creating such a great space, and its is free to visit!
Desiree Camarena
Went here for the first time with the kids (ages 2, 4, 8 & 10) and I picked up the little brochure guide from the nature center before heading out for our walk. We liked reading about each point of interest from the guide as we followed the paths. It was educational as well as fun which earns 5 stars. At the end I returned the brochure to desk as suggested since they don't charge for entrance. I'd definitely return for a nice nature walk. It was beautiful.
Trent Young
Beautiful nature park right in the middle of downtown Boise. This is a great spot to take kids for an afternoon outing or to treat visiting friends to a quick walk around the river. The stream cutaways to see the ecosystem are amazing and interesting for everyone.
Erik Hagen
Excellent nature center inside and out. Perfect for families.
Debra E
Nice little walk with nature education along the way.
Michelle Rosenberger
It's been several years since I'd been here. (No longer have little kids.) My husband and I had decided to go here in order to get a little walking in. They've really cleaned it up. They spruced up all the viewing areas. There's local art and several fun little kid activities. People of all ages were enjoying the spring day. I want to go back when it is really spring so that I can see what it's like with the butterflies and hummingbirds.
Shannon Hardman
Fun little place for kids to explore. Nice walking path.
Felicia McNulty
So much to see here nice clean walking paths. The indoor learning center is fun and interactive. Missed the owls we use to take pictures in but loved the new sturgeon seat to see where you measure up to a sturgeon. The staff and volunteers here are always so friendly. So much to see a great place to unwind and relax one of my favorite places to go.
John Anderson
The playground nearby is large, and the fish and wildlife exhibits are very educational. Also has access to the greenbelt. Great place to take the kids or just go for a stroll.
Alishia Montgomery
Love it here. Will keep going every chance I can get.
IchirouTheDemon
It's a great place, not too shabby. I came here on a school field trip in elementary. It has some fun things to do and look around at. A decent place to take your kids, there's also fishes to look at. I can't really explain it I know and I'm sorry, lol. But really it's just fun to be at, just relax and watch the fishes and you'll see that it's just really calming, I stayed there for half an hour one time just staring at fishes and I had fun, ya can't go wrong with it :)
Ben Schofeild
Great place to take the family for a mature trip
Hannah Mesker
A great place to explore nature for free!
Jackie Morris
Always a great place to walk and enjoy some beautiful plants and animals in the city. The path makes the most of the space- it feels like it is a larger area than it is. Also it is located right next to Municipal Park, where they have a good-sized playground. A great place to spend the afternoon, especially with kids!
Megan Gillette
Such an awesome place. Can see different song birds, ducks, fish, sturgeon. Fun little stops for pictures and experiences.
Lance Sganzini
Place looks fantastic. Keep your donations coming!
Nancy Castro
I have been here a number of times taking school children on field trips always a fun trip
Eric Baird
A wonderful trip through nature with some up close visits from a couple fur buddies.
They had some great exhibits throughout the center. Lots of fun and great learning for little children if you have them. I really enjoyed my time and would recommend checking it out if you are on the fence about it.
Michael Oliveira
Very pleasant surprise while walking down the green belt with my family. The kids really enjoyed seeing the fish up close in different stages and my wife even had a deer walk by her in the butterfly garden. Very nice little spot
April Marie
The family Loves this place! So beautiful down there. Walked around and looked at all the streams and waterfalls and the beaver Dam. We learned about different species of plants and trees. Looked at all the fish! And then played at the playground at the Park right next door. Which is such an awesome place. And then walked over to the Boise River which was swift and high. All the smells and the flowers and the water. It was all just fantastic! We had a wonderful evening!
Michelle Jones
A unique low key place definitely worth visiting. It is tucked away downtown with the parks and other attractions but you feel like you are truly strolling through a little patch of nature. The little kiddos love to watch the huge fish swim through the ponds as you cross bridges and weave through trails on a stress free family outing - and it is free which is incredible! Take little ones on a visit to MK, the awe on their faces makes it 100% worth it!
Andrew Moore
This is a lovely nature center and a great place to go as a family. The inside displays are very well played out and interesting. The walk is mild and pathed for kids and strollers. There are fish viewing areas both above ground and a few windows below the water surface. We enjoyed our time there and will return.
Shandra Salinas
I have been taking my children here since they were tots, and they are all over 18 now. I still love to go. It is quiet and peaceful. It is very well kept, and I love walking the path and looking at the fish. My children have fond memories of going to "The Fish Park" , as they still call it. We live in Caldwell, and we always made a day out of it, packed a picnic, walked the path, talked about the fish and played in the park. Thank you for this wonderful family friendly nature center that has given my family so many fond memories.
Kyle Beeson
Nice little stop on my longboard ride
Kirk Ian Swallia
Free admission and lots to see, great place to learn about local wildlife and keep your child entertained!
h marie
I haven't been here in years. There weren't many species of fish this time around and I could barely see the larger fish under the walkway bridge. I love taking the Littles through. It's a nice walk and it teaches them things about animals, food and habitats.
Shawna S
I took my children here on a "field trip" and they had SO much fun. I loved how natural it all felt, that we could roam freely and learn along the way. The staff is incredibly sweet and helpful. We will be returning next year for sure!
N Meier
Great place to stroll through and learn about fish and nature.
W G
Fantastic park. Great for a nice walk! There are plenty of learning opportunities for children and adults alike. It is really interesting to see the life cycle of fish up close. I would recommend wearing polarized glasses because it gives you clarity into the big pond. There are HUGE fish in here that are more visible when wearing polarized lenses. The "learning center" building is full of animals that hail from Idaho.
Blake Taylor
Great place to take the kids to get them out of the house for a few minutes. It doesn't take long to walk through and the fish and other activities are good.
Madeleine Matt
A little gem of a free experience. The center has an extensive collection of taxidermied specimens of local animals which were interesting to kids and adults alike. The path with fish viewing stations was also good, with bonkers big sturgeon. A highlight for us was the peregrine falcon who was out and about with a staff member.
Stephanie Jackson
So we didn't go into this building, but Google won't let me just say we visited the Greenway park. But we did visit here several years ago, and we recall it fondly.
Anne Anderson
It was great to walk through, read all the information about natural habitation and animal life in Idaho.
Lauren Studley
A gem in the Treasure Valley! The bird viewing area, as well as the pond and nature walk are fantastic for kids and casual walkers. Deer, ducks, and fish can all easily be seen on a regular basis. The educational programs for kids are invaluable in our urban downtown lives. I wish there were more educational tools for adults, but for a government facility and non-profit, I think they are well worth the visit!
Gala Nikolaeva
Nice place to bring you kids or just have a nice walk in a shade.
hillary duncan
We had a big group of kids come to this location and it was fun! So beautiful in the heart of Boise it blew my mind that they had so many projects going. They have habitats that are constantly being loved and improved on and the teaching fun games that they have put together for the kids are very spot-on great place fully recommend to visit.
Stephanie Inman
I love the MK Nature Center. It is beautiful and FREE to the public. Watch fish in the viewing windows, learn from the new interpretive signs, measure yourself next to a 7' sturgeon on the back of a bench, and just stroll through. It is relaxing. A nice stop along the greenbelt, it is also not too far from downtown if you're arriving by car.
The more free things we have for families to do in Boise, the better in my book!
Anne Olsen
Beautiful and amazing for kids and parents alike!
Victoria Singleton
Amazing breathtakingly beautiful can't wait to go back and keep going! I wasn't able to see all of it but I will definitely be back to explore more of it!
Christyna Green
This is a great place to see native species to Idaho. There is an information center here with lots of great information. I went in the fall so I didn't get to see the blossoms of Spring, but I will be going again. Also there's a huge Sturgeon in the ponds.
Jeffrey Brown
Just for everyone's info, the nature center building is closed for remodeling for the next couple of weeks. You can still take the walk on the nature trail, which I recommend. It is amazing. Also you should plan a trip to the nature center after the reopening. Your whole family will enjoy your time spent together.
Nicky Aker
Absolutely loved this free walkthrough nature center. Our toddler loved being able to walk on the bridges over the water and seeing the fish in fun aquarium-esq displays. The indoor exhibit with taxidermy wild animals including bears, a cougar, a moose, and various birds was also a fun area of discovery for our toddler.
Joahnna Haskins
It was a great little walk for little kids. Glad we finally checked this place out.
Reece Nassif
Nice little walk through spot for the family.
Mike Browning
Always great place to take the kids to view nature habitats for some local Wildlife. 👌 💯🤙
Venessa
Very surprised to find this nature center right near the park. A very lovely and educational place.
Barbara Gist
It is surprisingly intimate with unexpected pleasures of wild life...deer, squirrels, snakes, fish and birds!
Sally Briceno
We got to see quite a few animals, dear , a turtle swam by us big fish , and a giant crane too .a momma duck with 5 babies swam by us too. It was a great VISIT
B_FRANCE_208
This place is free! Really great place to come see huge fish like sturgeon and trout. All the taxadermy inside the
Visitor center is well displayed and taken care of. Lots to see so it will keep the kiddos busy for a while. There were a few hands on activities inside the visitor center as well.
Courtney Dayley
Not a lot there because it's winter but the kids loved it! We saw some fish, ducks, and got a nice walk in on a Saturday afternoon. Can't wait to go back in the summertime!
Wendy Davis
Great free outdoor fun! Beautiful park in the middle of the bustling city.
Jim Paulson (Boise Realtor)
Love this place. Great walk near the Boise River Green belt and to see wildlife in a natural habitat. Loved watching a deer lounge around nearby. We watched fish, crawdads, butterflies, squirrels and birds. Definitely worth checking out.
Willie Taylor
Great place for the price (free). Has many native to Idaho fish and plants. Nice explanation boards. Pond with three stergen fish. Kids really enjoy the walk and nature in the middle of Boise. Small quaint and enjoyable.
Allison Tyler
My kids and I love this place. It's free, the grounds are well kept, and there is always lots to see and explore. Stroller friendly too!
Svend Knutsen
Great for family outings. Walk around the nature center learning about our rivers and wildlife, lots of "windows" to see the fish underwater. It's right next to municipal park which is great for a picnic and has a great playground.
Regina Sambrano
The Nature Center is a cool place to see the various wildlife around our great state of Idaho. Seeing an actual beaver dam, clear stream of fish and even a petroglyph made this experience memorable. Excellent place to visit!
Ted Caranto
This is a great oasis set up by the Idaho Fish and Game. Even in summer, there is plenty to see. Its a short trek but worth it. Great information rooms with a lot to see and learn. Owls were not out but plenty of fish to see! No shortage of parking.
Daniel Barclay
This is a wonderful escape from the current crises. Bring the children and participate in hands-on learning and physical activities for them as well as the "grownups". Lots to keep everyone busy. No cost. Trails to follow. Great fun...
Allen Dubin
Great exhibits. Nice walking paths. Operated by Idaho Fish and Game. Helpful signage. Something for every age group within our family. We were ages 3 to 68 and everyone had fun.
Alan Taketa
Always love going for a bike ride down at the greenbelt on a weekend. Stopping by the Nature center to view the wild life looking at the different types of fish through the glass or the gift shop were they display pictures of animals birds and fishes.
Cindy Pettit
It was really cold but granddaughters really enjoyed it,we will be back when it's warmer, disappointed the facility was closed so we couldn't get our hunting n fishing license renewed
rebel Sirpanda
Nice little hike. No other animals but fish do to it being winter time. Learning experience for the kids.
SamNam11
Great place. When I have free time I just ride my bike to it and stare at the trouts and giant sturgeons. I literally sit for hours and watch all sorts of song birds fight over the bird feeders. Very peaceful
Alan Taketa
Always go on my weekends off from work that is whenever I can and ride my bike down the Greenbelt to enjoy the bike trails and having my lunch. Stopping by the Kristen Armstrong park to see the MK Nature Center and the wildlife conservation of all different species of plants birds insects animals. The most I really enjoy is viewing the trout and salmon through the glass and learning the life stages of these various fish and how important the ecosystem is for all of us.
Annette Guidry
An indoor viewing place. Taxidermist took samples from Idaho natural wildlife and strong them up for all to see. You can see bears and wolves. Kind of disgusting but they're beautiful anyway. Saw a huge sturgeon in the water on the hiking trail! Small, peaceful walking area. Free, no charge!
Christie Carroll
Most Boiseans know about this but most visitors and newcomers don't. It is a real treasure. There is an outdoor wetlands interpretive area which includes a large pond stocked with several species of local fish including sturgeon. There is an interpretive walk with underwater viewing areas. The life cycle of fish is explained at each of these viewing portals. The area also includes trails that explain the natural flora and fauna of Idaho with many displays of each. Lots of interactive things for children. Don't forget to visit the indoor nature center where their are a lot more interpretive displays and activities for kids of all ages. The entire complex is affiliated with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game but much of it is done by volunteers. There is plenty of free parking. It is also accessible from the green belt and Municipal Park (now called the Kristin Armstrong Park named after a local champion bicyclist.
Jad Mahnken
Great place for family, kids or those who love to learn. i got some great photos as well.
Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a fun free activity in boise.
my only critique is lots of fish have disease. especially around gill area can you treat fish to reduce disease?
carlee daigle
Awesome place to walk around and explore
Julia Stahnke
We’ve moved away from Boise but one of the things I miss the most is walking along the Greenbelt to the MK Nature Center with my daughter and enjoying watching the fish and other wildlife. Their gift shop and indoor exhibits are also wonderful. We miss this place so much!
Lacee Bennett
So amazing! Perfect learning excursion, and the drizzle made it that much more fun!
Meghan Sanderson
We go regularly! Such a nice, cool walk on hot days. Guaranteed to see fish when the sun's out. Beautiful!
Julie Rainey
Love this place! Great place to take kids and have them learn about nature. Close to the Boise River so you can stop by and dip your feet (or body) in the water on a hot day.
Stephen Barton
Love this place! It's a bit of nature in town, peaceful walk through the stream and pond area. The visitor center is interesting. The grandkids always have a good time. And it's all free!!
Rachel Velarde
Very nice nature park. Walking trails are nice. Fed the ducks, took in as many sights as possible. Bldg's closed. But what we got to do was fun.

Samantha Newell
This is a great place to relax and walk through nature. I come here all the time. There many places to view trout and stergen. It is also next to the Boise Greenbelt and a park. If you are quite you can even see deer.
Jamie R
Very nice nature walk with some live animals and fish. Connects to a playground with a lot of activities for kids.
Natalya Besoushko
Cool place to come explore, especially with little ones. We visited in January and it was still cool to see all of the beaver activity and fish, but I bet it's beautiful during the spring and summer!
Nate
A lot of fun, especially for children. A nice blend of walking trails and plant and animal life. The visitors center also has fun hands-on things for children.
Sue Petitt
Nice place for a fall walk.
Paul Weldon
A great place to see a few critters. Deer, ducks and giant sturgeon!
Robert Spence
A great place to see native fish from trout to sturgeon living in their native habitat. You get to learn about the life cycle of many fish plus the insects and habitat that supports them. A wonderful setting by the Boise river and very well done.
Carolyn Deatrick
I have lived in Boise my entire life, and I just don't get the appeal. Especially when you can walk along the gorgeous Boise river which is just a few feet away! The deer seem fond of the Nature Center, though.
Joe Gandolfi
Very cool place to visit, my family and I go here all the time. My daughter loves to walk around the path and see the fish, and if you're lucky you can even see beavers, mink, snakes, and bats!
Roshan Patel
Better than the zoo! I got to see them feeding the salmon and sturgeon. Then one of the people there came out with an eagle or a falcon that was missing an eye. It is a really neat place and I highly recommend it
Rob Nesbit
An amazing asset along the Boise River within the city limits. Disappointing on this last visit. The grounds have not been maintained and the place is looking over run and overgrown.
Christopher Larson
This place is awesome, really cool displays and peaceful nature area with love fish viewing windows in a portion of the stream. I am tempted to give a really bad reviews so this place doesn't get busy.

Wonderful place to visit for all ages! Features fish outlooks, beautiful nature paths, and interesting information along the way!
A fun interactive spot, and it is free, with donations appreciated! Lots of love for this lovely spot

Wonderful spot for a Nature Hike without hiking boots. Sturgeon and salmon and trout in the creek. Ducks beaver squirrels on land. Birds butterflies and bugs all at your level. Bring the kids. Walk the paved trails. Peer over the pond and creeks.
Enjoy Nature in the center of Boise Id.
Reese Barker
This is the perfect amount of time and distance to entertain a toddler. The outside loop is nice and unique with each season. The indoor displays change with the seasons too!
Stephypoo F
Neat educational place to visit and it's free to get into. It's small and a quick little walk around the place so make sure you plan other things to do. I'd recommend just going next door to the park too.
Dave Johnson
I was fishing on the greenbelt with my grandson and he walked me through it. I haven't been there in years, and really enjoyed it. I thought what a great place Boise is to have something like this, and for free!
Tom S
Thanx for being with nature!! Good place to charge your human self with positive environment!! No pets allowed! Enjoy upfront views of natural settings of nature. How are ecology works with real display. Can you imagine the amount of time it took? To build real settings of how nature works. This teaches everyone the facts of nature! Come see for yourself.
Emily Fritchman
Excellent! MK Nature Center has an array of excellent exhibits with beautiful scenery - all right next to the Boise Greenbelt. Admission is free and a small donation is encouraged - would highly recommend visiting!
Gabriel Meierhoff
Lots of stuffed animals but it seemed pretty small. Watch your kids because the river is EASILY accessible from the nature path and the location is not secure at all with multiple entrances all around
Katie Swenson
My toddler loves going here to look at the fish and run around. It's a beautiful spot with well maintained walking paths. Best part is it's free!

Loved looking at all the fish! It was hot outside but nice and cool through there. I think it was worth the stop!
Ashley jones
We have family walks all the time. Have spotted deer many times upclose. The fish life cycle exhibit os great for children's learning and development. It is a very peaceful place. Large salmon and stergeon.
Ryne Mlinar
My kids love this place and the nature trail is well shaded and perfect for a summer or spring excursion. The nature center building has so many things to see and we have donated multiple bird nests to them
Josh Huemiller
MK Nature center is beautiful. Huge pond with a tin of giant Koi living in it. Tons of open spaces to bring the kids or fur babies along as well. And a great place to go play Pokemon Go. This location is one of the few rotating 'nests' that have a larger appearance rate for one specific monster. If you are looking for a place to earn candy and evolve something then this your place. Nest lists for Boise can be found online as well
Zach Brown
How many cities have a pristine mountain river running through them with native steelhead and salmon? The nature center highlights the specialness of Boise's natural environment. You can see a large variety of fish, and a few native, freshwater crustaceans, there are birdwatching stations and natural gardens for bees, hummingbirds and butterflies. It's a great place to learn about the local, and regional outdoors.
Anastasia McDonald
We took a beaver field trip and it was very informative. A well done slide show with actual beaver teeth and a pelt. Then we walked the trail and made our own beaver dam.
Kelly Pangman
The indoor facility was closed but you can still enjoy the outdoor loop and you are able to print off the age appropriate scavenger hunts!
Anna Clements
Fun little nature walk. You can see fish from underwater, deer, birds, crawdads, and insects.
Don
It's been a few years since we've been there and oh my how much its changed! ...this is a must see and a great place to take visitors

Some really cool sections. They have water cut aways to see the creatures inside, bridges over water with large fish, and wild life roaming the park.
Edward Eickhoff Jr.
Great for kids to visit
Eric McGrath
This is a wonderful park with a well maintained loop walk and several bird and fish viewing locations. Be sure to stop on the bridge and look for a sturgeon swimming in the depths.
Rick Tetik

Riley Graves
Good place for kids and adult to learn about Idaho's wildlife. You also get to see some really big sturgeon!! One of them is about 6 feet long!!!
Scott & Cyndi Wright
I would love to re-create this place. There are several areas that are not well maintained. Plants that have died and not been replaced. But this place could definitely be revived with some TLC.
Violet Martin
Anytime we have friends from out of town, we go here for walks and play with the kids. I love the wildlife viewing and now there are beavers that have taken up residence in the dam!!
Haley Eggert

d’ranged 1
Great place to visit. Just beatiful... pretty much free, they just ask for donation, but is not required. Multiple entrances and kids love it...
idziak4ever
I was there in mid March so it was a bit barren, but I bet come Spring and summer it is amazing. I thought I spotted an early warbler, but did not have my binoculars to verify.
Dave Connelly
Free, open to the public, has internal live aquariums as well as a taxidermy section of native Idaho wildlife. A nice way to spend 20 min cooling in the AC!

Very educational and was a great representation of the river ecosystem. Loved seeing the various places where the new beaver has been making dams.

I'm disappointed in the grounds at the nature center. The walkways are not clean and things seem cluttered. I'm sure I'll get an answer of the state being unable to get funding for upkeep.
The state park at Ponderosa is in disrepair as well and not run with any efficiency.
jolene hernandez
I really liked all the updates. Grandkids loved it!
stephanie pedraza
One of my favorite outdoor spots in the area, it's educational, great area for a nice walk, and there is a park close by for the kids.
