Reviews of Red Mountain Park
Katlynn Nguyen
Lots of long trails to walk on and they’re spacious trails too! There’s always some interesting sights to see like an outdoor woods playground, zipline, historic mine, and art! Saw lots of families and dogs (very dog friendly and there’s a dog trail). It’s easy access from the parking lot to the trails (enter from across the street to the box visitors center). Will be visiting again and seeing how it looks in green!
Brookelyn Johnson
Loved it here. The hike was amazing and the trail markers are easy to see and read. Definitely won't get lost so long as you are walking where the trail is marked out! Beautiful mountain and scenery, wonderful wildlife and such interesting history!
Kaity Craven
We hiked trail 15 to the end and were amazed by the abundant wildlife we saw. Early spring is the perfect time to see what this park has to offer. Some parts of 15 were a little rocky, but the elevation wasn't too high and there were a few places to stop and rest along the way.
Danette Darling
This place is amazing! So much so that I stayed for four hours!
I love going on Nature walks or hikes on weekends and Red Mountain will be a regular one from now on.
I walked up to Grace’s Gap for a good total of a six mile hike! Should’ve taken more pics and I’m so excited to visit throughout the year in all the seasons!!
Jeremy Brown
We hiked 12 miles on a Saturday. The old mines and history were really cool. The trails need to be marked better than they are. Pretty good view of birmingham. Cool historical place.
We hiked here again completing all the trails at red mountain. This is a great place to hike. Go down to the bars at mine 13 and feel the cold air blasting from below. We did the most difficult trail number 5 which was pretty easy overall. Great hike.
Zinc
Awesome community park. Has many hiking, biking and jogging trails! The hanging bridge was enchanting. The historical mine artifacts were informative. The only downside is that some smaller trails weren't as groomed as I expected. They may pose trip hazards and ankle injury hazards.
Ivelisse Sanchez
Pretty place to go for long walks and enjoy the precious view and get to know a little bit more from the past , just enjoy, alone or with family or friends.
Carol Walker
Our first visit to Red Mountain park and we will go again. Trails were pretty well marked and easy to navigate.
I bet all of those hardwoods will be gorgeous in the fall and spring!
David Johnson
Slowly becoming a well-rounded park. Was here one for the zip line a couple years ago and recently for the dog park (large and small dog parks). Haven’t had a chance for hiking yet.
Paul and Lillian Bruns
While the entrance is very underwhelming the hikes were great. It looked like there was more to do that was closed on a weekday, but we had plenty to hike. The trails were pretty well marked. We enjoyed the skyhy trail and lots of history.
Shane Womack
A small up hill walk from the industrial park area to a long level and straight walking path, very wide. Mostly shaded, wild walnut tree, dog park.
Daniel P
This park is really quite outstanding. I walked a difficult trail, trail #5, and it was a good 2.5 hours from start to finish back at the trailhead. A very good workout. It took about a half hour to get to the beginning though, so that's like 3 hours of a difficult to nedium difficult hike, but the scenery is quite beautiful and lots of history that you're walking past, like abandoned buildings and mines. Park on the street, NOT, IN THE PARKING LOT. The entrance to the parking lot has massive potholes and if you drive a car, you will bottom out. Management please fix this. Other than that, the place is amazing. Portable toilets and trash cans and benches are there throughout the area, and a dog walking area. If you wear white sneakers, the heels will stain red from the red rock soil. Great place.
Kirsten Peterson
Super fun and beautiful. Love they had a trail my sister with MS could do easily. The doggie bags were nice and the water available for our pup.
Jack Moore
A really cool place to hike and enjoy a bit of nature. I will be back
J Cuvier
This is a really nice patch of woods for hiking and biking with some very interesting history. There are several bike repair stations with some basic tools to do on-site repairs; that's a nice touch for bike riders. Overall, very enjoyable place to hike (we didn't bring bikes), but it's not quite what it's hyped up to be. The high ropes/zipline features were closed and looked like they've been abandoned. Ditto for the adventure park. We had a nice hike. Just don't go expecting all the concession-run activities that are prominently mentioned in the advertising.
Tameka Canady
Great hikes for all ages. So many trails to explore, tons of tree houses and other hidden gems Great for beginners and experts. Also great biking trails and has a separate dog park.
Barry Brown
By far best maintained most expansive trails to Hike/Bike in Birmingham. My family has visited over a dozen times and we're still finding new trails. There's hiking and biking for all skill levels. The trails are clearly marked and the majority of them are shaded. There are hidden secrets everywhere. This is definitely a Birmingham gem.
Joyce Miller
Very nice park. My family love to hike here on the weekends. We feel safe and there are sitting areas time rest. We see other people riding their bikes and some walk their dogs.
Garret Grove
This was a great park to hike in. I went hiking for the first time in my life here and I went up to Grace’s Gap. From the main entrance, to Grace’s Gap and back took our group 2 hours to do, but it was well worth it.
The park has a lot of unique history and a sense of genuine character. I can only imagine how beautiful it is to hike/bike/run here when the leaves are changing colors in Autumn.
Jeff Doby
Real good hiking beautiful park
Adam Kline
Awesome bike riding and we found a baby owl! The owl photo is on digital zoom, so the quality is terrible. Went back today and he wasn't there. Hopefully mom taught him to hide better. The park rangers are aware he is there.
Ben
This is a fantastic park that has an interesting history. I think the trails are even accessible via stroller if you don't mind a few roots here and there. My boys had a fantastic time.
Ryan Beverly
Absolutely love this park. My first time coming was this past weekend and we came up from Mobile. We came to Zip line because I had been seeing this was an Adventure Park. There is hiking, biking and even a dog park. The first day we hiked, there is a lot to see being an old mining establishment. All kinds of structures and things to see we ended up doing 14.6 miles. It's a beautiful hike so we just kept going and enjoyed it, there is so much to see the park itself is very well maintained and marked. The adventure Park is awesome has an adventure course and a climbing tower. Now for the Zip Lining, so of the most fun I've had, you get two jumps and it's pretty fast but you zip through trees and are pretty high up. Definitely recommend doing this. I wanna go back soon and do some more. You can even jump at night which would be really cool to do. Wish there were more stars because I would rate this a lot higher than a 5.
Jörg Eggers
This park is located just around the corner to a customer. After work I change cloth and go running.
The park is built around an old iron mine, closed now. You can still see old buildings and old is loaded with signs telling you what you see.
On one one of the hills oversized rocking chairs invite to watch the scenery. And it's great.
On the north side of the park you can run along the old rail road. Some tails are left. It's great. I did run two days after rain, some parts of the trails are still muddy. Use trail running shoes. A round trip is about 10 Km.
angela ferguson
A great place to hike!!! Beautiful park over a historic mine site. The trails vary in terms of how challenging they are. A nice, wide flat one for those who can't handle the hills, or more challenging hikes up to the Crest of the hill. Great views of the city from up there!!
Our Little Homestead Oasis
A beautiful place, l was speechless, just breathtaking. I love hiking. My family and friends hiked all the time when I was a young girl back in NJ. Birmingham reminds me of NJ, all the trees, trails, things to do and fall colors. RED Mountain Park is very interactive. And has multi skill levels. Theres many areas to sit if you need to take a break or if someone elderly is with you.
Jeremy Jacobs
Great park to visit. The first responders are there in no time at all if any kinda issue happens. So it extra safe. They have all kind of things for every member of the family. From hiking trails, zip lines, and a really nice dog park. The dog park in my favorite. They have three separate gated areas. So no matter big, small, or even dogs with special needs have a place to play. I highly recommend checking this place out.
Bill Tiemann
This is another excellent place to take the family to get some fresh air and exercise. Lots of hiking trails with good trail marking. There's also a wonderful ZIP line to experience.
W. H.
This is a beautiful park with so much history of Birmingham. The trails are easy to walk, animals are welcome, and the little nooks and crannies provide great photo opportunities. Mushroomers and foragers will be in absolute heaven! There are several things to do, including a zip line for additional cost. Entrance to the park is free.
Ryan Trader
Great place to spend the day and some great views off the trails. Easy to access in and out.
Kris Rose
Very nice park. Trails are will marked and once you get off the main path, there are few people. Great views of downtown Birmingham. Such a wonderful resource so close to the city.
Marcel Fields
Wonderful experience and time. A hidden gem in thre Birmingham area. If you haven't been it's a must. Breathtaking views, picnic area, history and I found Stephen King's IT Monster Cage too 🤣😅🤣! Zip lines, kids area, obstacles course etc. You will looooove this place. …
Karen Trejo
It was a nice walk. We did the activity trail since I had my 5 year old son. He enjoyed it..I would have been there longer except I was in a hurry that day. Next time I plan on exploring some more. 4 stars for nature and its beauty!! 🥰😍 …
mkylelewis
Had a really nice time here! Seems to stay busy but still a nice place to explore some trails.
Top Guide
You must go to the tree house! If you are picking a route pick that one! The trails are clearly marked but we did get a little confused trying to get to the tree house.
pedro martinez
Awesome park for hiking, wish they had a few more plaques/signs explaining/identifying some of the remnants of the buildings but overall great place to get outdoors
jim taylor (jiMTV)
Great getaway for the Birmingham area, for you, your dog, or your entire family. Easy to get to. No admission fee. Lots of people are taking advantage of its beauty and convenience.
Micah Thompson
Fun hiking trails with a variety of difficulty levels and and scenery. Suitable for mountain biking as well. Be sure to visit the old iron ore mining buildings as they are quite interesting. Adirondack chairs on the far end of the park provide a fun and scenic spot to view the Oak Mountain skyline. Well maintained trails!
KD Antonacci (DeNacho)
HUGE fenced areas! Lots of shade under the trees for hot days. Their Special Needs area is a nice bonus! It was great to have our dogs run off some energy in the park before taking them on a hike. They close the park from 8-10a on Wednesday for cleaning - I've never seen that at a park before. Very impressive!
Austin Smith
Great hiking place. There are some cool mines located throughout the park. Has good parking for cars. Bike friendly.
John Warren
Really nice park with a lot of different hiking trails covered with beautiful trees that produced shade. Great scenery. Hiked about 2 miles up and down trails and didn't even see about 1/4 of the park.
David Limon
Nice part for a stroll or a bike ride! Lots of trees and plenty of paths to explore. Park has a dog park too. Note: Park closes at 7pm.
Bobbie Raines
Awesome trails to walk, the park has 3 dog yards, one for big dogs, one for smaller dogs, and one for Special Need dogs which is totally awesome!!! Really cool place to visit and get some exercise in as well.
Sandra Casey
This place is a great place to go and walk through nature. Trails are easy to walk. Lookout is beautiful but very windy. We had a great time.
Patience Nichole
I wish we could have had more time to explore this It was awesome so many activities for the kids . Can’t wait to go back in the summer
Walter Moyer
Excellent hiking and dog park. Some technical single track trails with spectacular views. Worth the trip.
Tayla Ritchie
Family friendly! Lots of parks! Love the sensory trail for the kids
Felix B.
The trails at Red Mountain are aweome. They are clearly marked and vary in difficulty. The zip line course and the tree climbing course are very fun. Highly recommended.
Wild Hares
First time I been here. An it was on a whim! Saturday is the long hike day! An I cannot wait!
Also the chicken!
RED MOUNTAIN RED!
Melissa Gay
We took 40+ kids 4-18yrs old on a Friday school excursion. Perfect place for 3 miles of outdoor hiking, lunch and outdoor play
Amy Floyd
I love hiking here, and my dog always has a blast at the dog park. It's our favorite place to go on the weekends.
Angel Fagan
It's nice for an intermediate level hike
Too many restricted areas if you're the adventurous type
Josh Serena
Great casual hiking trails! Lots of great things to check out and very good for walking your dog as well!
Elizabeth Taylor
I feel like jesus hand carved this park. I love it so much. So many trails to get away from the main people crowed ones. Love to go here for hours and wander around. Also real cool old machinery there.
Shanney M
I love this park. My first hike ever was here, I have been back twice since then. Truly a refreshing place.
KS Almond
Nice park, area is well maintained. For me the trails could be marked a little better with signs vs being handwritten on posts in what looks like sharpie marker. Their are trail numbers on trees but you have to know your trail numbers for that to be enough. There are maps sporadically placed as well but most are covered in plexiglass(?) and higher than what is user friendly. This coupled with the glare of the sun made them hard to read. Overall still a great little hike with lots to see.
Jerad Watson
I can’t rave enough about this park.
Hiking, biking, zip lining, running, dog-walking and more!
The new sensory trail is so much fun for both kids and adults!
Make sure to park on the road, not inside the gate, if you are there in the evening. One minute late and the park ranger is giving you the glare trying to close that gate.
Tammy Earnest
We love Remy's Dog Park at Red Mountain Park! It's well maintained and the pups and their owners are so much fun. Morris always has a great time playing there!
SaintMegery15
Awesome place! Great hiking trails, wonderful dog park area, and fun things like a zip line! Took my dog here for the park and hiking - we both loved it!
BIll McClain
Awesome dog park with 3 separate areas. Big dog, small dog and special needs dogs for any dog that might not like other dogs.
kee lozz
I like this park and I'm definitely looking forward to more hikes through it when weather permits
Sloane Thompson
Took a trip to this park for the first time withe my mycology group and it was very beautiful and very diverse and very enjoyable. Big beautiful park
Tyrus Johnson
My new favorite place in the world if you ride a bike you need to try these trails love love love this place
Rob Glen
Great place for a hike, a run, a walk, or a bike. Really cool ore mining sites.
Collin Spradley
Been here countless time for a walk, run, or to visit the dog park. Always clean. The trails are clearly marked and kept free of debris. If you are looking for a way to kill some dog energy, this is the place to do it. Highly recommend to anyone looking to spend some time outdoors.
Wendy Kidd
My dog had fun! Love the whole park area
Andy Fondren
Very neat place! Love learning about the history there. The trails are relatively flat since they are mostly old railroad beds.
Frederick Chace
First time there, did not know what to expect. Found lots of history, some good views and some nice trails.
Charlie Graham
This is one the best places for urban hiking in the Birmingham area. Most of the trails are easier than other places. Also the amount of historic markers here tell a great story of the history of the city. Oh, and be sure to take the time to go out to the Number 10 mine to look down an old mine shaft!
Clara Jennings
Trails were well maintained and the volunteer staff was very helpful! The Grace’s Gate Lookout was a wonderful 4 mile out and back perfect for an out-of-towner like me!
Lee Stockman
Good trails and outdoor activities such as a ropes course. Short hikes to historic iron ore mines. Well maintained. Cub scouts had a great time.
Courtney Evans
Such a great place to hike and bike. So many trails. Also has three different fenced dog parks. Have lots of outdoor activities like offroad segways and ziplines and climbing walls
Rachel Brown
I'm not sure what I expected from a dog park but this part of Red Mountain Park seemed pretty vacant and a little rundown...either way...it was nice to let my dog socialize with other dogs, off the leash...
Bryan Copeland
Don't get to visit here too much, But its a very nice and huge park!
Stephen Upton
Red mountain park is a great local spot for a quick hike or mountain bike ride. The overlooks are pretty cool!
Linda Powell
Fantastic place to hike! Just needs more trail signs at Ys and crossovers.
Jeff Estes
Lots of great hiking/trail running and other activities here. There are well constructed boardwalks to cross many washed out areas.
The dog park is very cool; our puppy loved it!
Becky Hardesty
Beautiful park for hiking and walking. Limited amenities.
L
I LOVE these trails but don't leave anything valuable in your car and leave your windows down when hiking. My car window was busted in and my bag stolen. Still worth checking out and I'll continue to visit.
Miranda Brunn
This place was amazing! Free entrance. Abandoned mines with interesting history, fun treetop views and swinging rope bridges. Also, lots of trail to hike.
ericthered78
Great hiking trails that are pretty easy going. I love the fenced in dog park. There's a place big and small dogs and even a spot for special needs dogs too.
美国村長
Love the dog park there! Wonderful trails.
Michelle Moore
I actually went to this location twice and it was a real workout! Lots of hills and beautiful scenery.
Anand Iyer
A great place to get exercise with a variety of activities (hiking and zip lining). Also, has the best dog park in the area. And if you have time, be sure to check out the mine sites and bee colonies.
Cecily Caudle
Great trails for all levels. Lots of interesting stops and information, plus things kids can play on :)
Allie
Fantastic way to spend a warmer winter day. Always super busy so you'll never feel isolated or unsafe, and very well kept up. Lots of trails, and the dog park is the best there is in probably a fifty mile radius at least.
Austin Redmayne
Fantastic place to go back to over and over. Great lengthy trails of varying difficulties. Has a dog park and a few old mining trails! If you are looking to reconnect with nature you really can't go wrong with this place.
Michael Evans
We stopped by here while visiting from out of town and now we can’t wait to go back. Great area for day hikes. Kids will love the observation posts and bridges.
Shelby Gutierrez
The park itself is really pretty! It is a very long trail for those that enjoy nature or want a jog with their dog. The trails have a lot of rocks so I don't recommend bringing a stroller but great for outdoorsy people that are in good shape and don't mind going uphill and working up a sweat.Definitely not for the elderly or people with asthma.
Jazzlynn Garrett
Beautiful area!! There is nothing like it. Multiple entrances, multiple trails, and nature galore. Red dirt will dye your shoes though so be prepared that.
Carol Creekmore
We had a great time on the ropes course with a zip line. Our family had people ages 7 to 47, and we all had a blast. Our guides who went up with us were AWESOME and made the experience safe and fun.
Kai DeBus
A pleasant park with rope bridges, bathrooms, and lots of greenery. No spectacular views or substantial elevation gains but it’s a nice escape from Birmingham
Michael C
Great place to Ride your gravel bike or trail run.
Tina Jones
Well maintained paths. Clean potty johns. Dog part is closed at this time.
Breezii Bby
Beautiful Park & Awesome Trails! Definitely Worth The Visit! :)
Tee Bailey
Good hiking! Strenuous, but a really interesting place to visit and see some of the state's history.
william wesson
I love this urban park. They took this random little piece of woodland and explored its history and turned into a place people can enjoy.
Wanja Ngugi
Great bike ride. May come back for a long hike.
Bobby Gunter
One of the best I've been to. I travel and there's nothing like it where in Cleveland where I am on contract.
Wes Watkins
This is a great park and trail system. It is used for hiking and biking. There is a fenced dog park. There is also an obstacle / suspension cable course. There are great view points to see the city of Birmingham and the surrounding area. The tree roosts are very cool. You get a good feeling of Birmingham's past when you go see the mines and the old buildings on the mountain.
Lucinda Hall
My favorite place to hike in Birmingham! The trails are well-maintained and clearly marked. With the mining sites, ruins, dog parks, lookouts, and interesting trails, there's something for everyone.
Nancy Swoboda
Nice area, different trails. Not too great in the rain.
willa wright
I went here with my spouse and our college friend for a short hike, and we had a lovely time. It was clean and easy to navigate. The lookout point had a really nice view.
I will definitely be making a return visit!
Sarita Colvin
It is always a treat to visit Red Mountain Park. There is no doubt you will experience some form of God's creation
Keely Burd
Worth the truck to graces gap! This place is amazing 🤩 so many trails to explore and loved all the old industrial archeology …
Stella Dallas
A lot of room for dogs to run.
Small dog yard
Big dog yard
and
special needs yard
Special needs has no grass
All the other yards have a grass area and shaded area
The mosquitoes are unbearable.
Action Robinson
Lots of areas to explore. Shame the zip line and other feature are no longer available. I love that they have lots of garbage cans and bike repair stations or at least 1 at the entrance. If you lose something while on the trail and come back for it keep an eye out for signs and tables alone your path. People who find belongings on the trails tend to leave them somewhere easily noticed for those who come back looking for it. Also the dog parkbareas are huge with well water faucets and sh!tsacks
Lindi Pearson
Love this place. Clean and fellow hikers are always nice, helpful, and accommodating. Dogs are welcome and they even have cool mines and a ropes course, obstacle course, multiple dogs parks and meeting places. Trails need to be better marked though.
rachael van riper
Great park! Love the different areas for large, small, and even special needs dogs! Big green areas and very well maintained.
Katy
Beautiful park with so much wildlife to look at. Great for riding bikes, great for running, and great for families. If you're into photography there is so much beautiful scenery to capture!
Heavy Metal Ranger
Hilariously enough, the young kid in the red mountain photo who has a cub scout backpack and is on an orange bike is me! But this place is great, awesome ropes courses and stuff, also the trails are awesome with plenty of cool mine entrances and areas.
Shannon Carden
We go to this park for hiking and to use the dog park. There are many miles of wooded trails, nice picnic tables and benches, scenic overlooks, and historic mine relics. There are a few porta potties. The BMRR trail is flat and even, but most other trails are hilly, rocky, and rutted. The park has 16 trails that are all numbered, color coded, and marked. However, unless you have a map with you, it is very easy to get lost. I wish they would add clear “Exit This Way” signs.
Andy Mejia
Amazing maintained trails for beginners and experienced trail runners. Also a good of history to learn. The green trail will have you zip zag up and down the mountain and the purple trail you can hike the peak. Well worth it.
amir sattar
Best place for hiking trail!!! If you have a mountain bike this is the place you need to go!!
James E May
Great walking trails me my queen and my boys walked 4 miles today. We enjoyed that very much we will be visiting again next weekend 💯 …
Jennifer D.
Very fun experience. Lots of remnant structures and history coupled with new bridges, walkways, and overlooks. Nice hiking.
Brandon DeVault
Awesome trails and extremely friendly service from the maintainers! All the trails are very well marked. The trails range from very simple to moderately difficult with lots of options for choosing different routes and clear signs for navigating to your destination. The hideaway tree house was super cool, and there are a ton of Eagle Scout projects (sensory trail stations, workout space, tree house, etc.) which are well maintained throughout the entire park!
Joe C.
This is a wonderful park close enough to town to be accessible but large enough to contain some wilderness. Speckled throughout with old mines and mining buildings, this is a great place to get out and go for a hike, ride your mountain bike, or even go on a trail run. They have some ropes courses on site as well that look pretty epic. It can be a little crowded at times, but I think that's mainly just because it's the closest park to town. Overall, highly recommended.
Jack Mc
Great place for a hike, have some adventure, and take in a little local history.
JAMES NEWMAN
Beautiful park . Easy riding bike trails.
Jessie Bruce
Spacious AF
easily get lost... follow the maps
Rosa Hill
Great views and nice for hiking!
Zachary Irvin
Easygoing trail hiking with plenty of room to bring dogs. Easy to follow trails that lead to some interesting bits of Birmingham history. If the dog park section had been open I would've given it 5 stars.
Shreyas Srinivasa
Good hiking spot. No complaints. Has porta pottys and trash cans occasionally along the trails and that's great!
Amy Knox
Very nice place...super nice park ranger. Very clean place. Will be back to see what we didnt get to see today!
Amy
Lovely trails with easy access to town and free parking. Some are flat and wide while others are true hiking trails. Great for trail running.
Devera Hester
We loved this park. Our grand dog took us here for the first time to visit the dog park and she loves seeing all the friendly dogs.
It is so nice that they have a small dog, large dog and a special needs dog section. We will definitely be back next time we visit her.
Jens Haeuser
some nice trails, unfortunately we did not make it to the mines because we were too late. Park closes at 7pm
DanTripz
It is a great place to get out and do a hike, run, bike, or learn some history of the old mineshafts. A lot of the trails are under the trees which helps help the sun off of you for a lot of the time. Some areas are open but that seems to be more on the west side. Good places to picnic and take your dogs
Sam Dillard
Very beautiful scenery with well maintained paths. There's also a lot of interesting history to see her with old, closed mines (closed off obviously). There are also some nice lookouts.
Sharon Blackmon
Beautiful park, well maintained. Friendly, helpful staff. We went for the sensory trail and loved it. Our son has autism and intellectual disability, along with mobility issues. We easily navigated the trail with his wheelchair. The staff let us park up by the guard hut to avoid the hike from the parking lot, which was helpful. Loved the trail!
Krystin Gentry
Lots to see. Great for hiking.
Rachel Jean
Beautiful big park! We hiked about 5 miles at this park and searched for mushrooms. Love that it’s free and huge! Can’t wait to go back and explore some more.
Laura Johnson
Very nice walking path. Mostly flat
Nikki Guthrie
We've had tournaments at this park now a couple times now. The great thing about this park is that there are a couple of food trucks in an event we run late and need a bite to eat. There is plenty of parking and the lot is well lit. This park has about 8 well maintained fields. Several people had dogs with them which is nice to know we can bring our without any issues. Kids had a great time playing and watching the tournament!
Christopher Shadrick
Love this place ,very nice
W.D. Carrington (QDABOOGIE)
It's a very big park. Lots of trails and fun things to do. It's very clean. I walked over 3 miles and was pouring sweat and barely put a dent in the mileage of the park. Had fun though being with nature.
Ilona Molotoka
We hiked up to Grace’s Gap Overlook and loved it. Path was pretty well covered with trees and not overly difficult. Coming back past the mines was cool to see too.
Fernando G
Red mountains awesome the dog parks even better unless people with their dogs are there with their leashes on in a dog park and don't want your dogs to play with them because they think they're humans
Adam Nichols
DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES IN YOUR CAR! Red mountain is an awesome park and a true highlight in Birmingham. Just be careful because there have been a lot of car break-ins and on busy days the park doesn’t have the law enforcement manpower to deter criminals. Our car was broken into last week and there have been several others in the last month. This is a trendy spot for petty burglary! Go and enjoy the park, it’s a wonderful place, just don’t leave anything of value in your vehicle. Pro tip: leave an iPhone 4 charger hanging from your cigarette lighter to let potential thieves know that you are poor and have nothing to offer.
Andrew White
Fun place to go hiking and take the pups. Pretty views and take bad pair of shoes if going up the mountain because it is RED Mountain and your shoes will be red.
Brian Ayers
Awesome place to go hiking!
Fahmi Abdeen
Great park for hiking and taking time off a busy schedule. Make sure that you don’t wear new or bright colored shoes. The red iron ore sand will permanently dye them.
Brian Excarnate
It has wide, flat trails, challenging trails, beautiful scenery, nice folks, very dog friendly, bike friendly... Just a terrific place. A friend who travelled around the U.S. last summer and went to a lot of parks raved about Red Mountain Park.
Melissa Carden
My kids and I (ages 6 & 8) completed the Beanstalk Forest adventure. It was amazing! Our guide was knowledgeable and confident. The course was challenging and fun. We had a great time and we would definitely go again!
Eric Barton
This park has some beautiful old growth forest and some nice secluded trails cut through them. But it’s too bad many of the trails have been covered in rough and sometimes sharp gravel that makes biking and hiking a challenge. If you go, do a bit of research online first (the map info is limited) to find more hard to find natural trails.
Bethany Guerrero
Love Red Mountain! A good amount of trail options for hiking, biking, or jogging.
Craig Edmonds
Fantastic place to hike and get out of the house. Lots o history.
William Wall
Came here to ride my bike and was disappointed. Had heard it was a great place for biking, but loose gravel trails with areas of wash out make it suitable for mountain biking only. If your into that, it looks like a great place to ride. Also great for hiking, jogging or walking your dog. Not sure that it's suitable except for the most offroad capable of strollers though. Also, very interesting historical markers around, so great place to learn some history. 😁
Mark J
We visited over the weekend and booked our daughter on to the zip wire ride. The two instructors were excellent and she had a great time. We also walked through the park for a while .... lovely and peaceful if you want to escape a busy life for a while.
Marc Glass
This place is huge. If you are looking to hike, there are trails ranging anywhere from beginner to experienced. Theres lots of fishing space, and I saw alot of bike riders out there as well. Bathroom and showers, picnic areas and a kids park. I plan to spend lots of time here in the future.
Douglas Rone
Very nice way to spend a day. A few surprises along the trails. Easy to difficult. Pick your poison.
Devin Matthews
Good time. This is a good place for beginner mountain bikers ans those that want a hike.
Across the USA with Cargo VAN “VAN'em Przez USA” Greg Marciniak
I'm a first time here and i had only 2 hours to check this place. I'm very happy i did it! What a beautiful place, clean air, so quiet, only sounds of pure nature..
I'll be back if have a chance to visit Birmingham again... Now time to check Vulcan, just 5 miles away from here...
Stephanie Conner
Red Mountain is the perfect family park. The diverse system of trails offers something for everyone from families with small kids like us to mountain bikers. It's clean well patrolled. I also love that the park is so dog friendly.
Charlsie C
I booked the scavenger hut team building course for my Topgolf Managers. We were a group of 22 and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The team was great with me adding and subtracting managers. They had a great attitude and were super positive. We will look to do some aerial courses next time. Totally worth it if you'd like to get your team together and increase communication and working together.
SACRED GEOMETRY UNIVERSE
Super nice place, good hiking work out. A bunch of activities. Historical site.
Alicia T. Watkins
This was my first experience with hiking so I can't really compare it with other places yet, but I enjoyed myself.
Jameson Ware
Red Mountain Park is a free park in Homewood with miles of trails and different outdoor attractions for adults and children. There is a dog park in addition to the people park. Trails are pretty well maintained and people frequent most parts of the park. It is a great way to get out of the house and mostly stay in the shade.
Anne Hicks
Our family loves RMP. It's safe and well-maintained, though mostly "primitive" in facilities (that is good, in our view). Some trails are groomed, others rough. The variety in trail lengths and difficulty gives some good choices for the day's hike. One suggestion. I saw some people struggling with maps/directions. While there is already signage, may I humbly suggest placing discrete numbers along the trails to match the trail numbers on the map? That way people would have more confidence they were going the right way.
Salome Torres
Fun place for a relaxed hike and perfect for a bike ride. There’s a playground for kids and some zip lines that look awesome. They also have a couple dog parks and some areas to sit and eat.
Travis Finborg
Nice park with lots of trails. There is a Zipline and dog park as well.
ZT F
Great place, very well maintained. And lots of staff. It's a little crowded towards the front of the trails but once you get on it, people are spread out. There are zip lines, adventure tower, dog park, sensory trail for special needs and children, picnic area and much more. I think there is a camping club deal, I'm not exactly sure. The trails are mostly flat with crushed packed gravel. Some area is large gravel so a little difficult for strollers or carts. That's the only reason I give it 4 stars.
Tayyaba Khan
This is a prettg cool place for outdoor recreation, especially in summers. Apart from exploring the adventurous and exciting trails, there are other things like ziplining, bridges, biking, dog park, and much more to enjoy as well. Great place to have a day out with a friends or family group.
The best time is morning or early afternoon as it gets dark early inside the park as compared to outside and actual sunset time, probably because of thick tree coverage. Also, please keep a map or download it so you don't get lost. It's not fun if you are tired or it's getting late. I really liked that my phone signals were not lost despite of being deep in the park.
Candous Langston
Love going here! Trails are great! Zipline is fun!
Bishop Gambit
Historical, serene, and vastly expansive! I enjoyed my visit, and found the park very clean, full of friendly faces, and littered with treasure coves worth further exploration. Definently consider a membership and or a donation to keep places like this one open and available for all!
Cory Truett
One of the best parks in Birmingham. From their adventure course, to hiking, to bike riding, or just taking the dogs for a walk. This place has it all and is extremely well taken care of. If you live in Birmingham or are just visiting, I highly recommend you make time to visit Red Mountain Park.
Mary Minderhout
We love the walking trails and the treehouses. You can see the whole city from there. There is a zip line and dog park. There are many directions you can walk, climb, bike, or run in. Explore all the trials and find your favorite.
Jason Smith
I've been using this park for a year and it continues to grow and improve regularly. I've seen them add several trails and roads and clean up the park in this time. The porta-potties have never once been dirty. The Rangers are friendly. People wave when they pass you. People bring their pets and kids or come alone. I mainly use this park for hiking and running trails several times a week and it's very peaceful and pretty in certain areas. There are a few nice views and an overlook of Birmingham if you're willing to make the investment.
Terri Nicole
Lots of trails with varying levels to enjoy - or be completely challenged by ( hint hint - Ike Matson). Wonderful being out in nature where the ample branches shade the red clay paths making it a few degrees cooler, which comes in handy on a hot Alabama summer day. The park used to be a fully functioning mine and camp so there are some interesting some quite scenic as well as some unattractive parts. But all and all a great place to hike, bond with friends and family and you simply can't beat the size of their amazing dog parks with 3 separated areas: small dogs, large dogs and a special needs area for elderly, shy and injured dogs. Fido and Fifi will thank you!
Emily D
Unique opportunity to explore old mining areas. A trip back in time and well maintained trails to see what you can see.
Andrew Boulter
Great park for biking, dogs, hiking, and just getting out in the woods. Well cared for and good variety of trails. Mountain biking is not as in-depth as at Oak Mountain, but for being close to the city it has enough interesting trails to be well worth it.
Glenn Sutter
Went there for the first time today. Awesome. This is a great place for runners and hikers. It is also great for young people in general; we saw lots of young couples and teenagers. Lots of nature-related things to do like zipline tour, obstacle courses, and we are told they are building some more activities right now. I have heard that this compares very well with other similar parks.
Kari Mendenhall
We had a great time on the Hugh Kaul beanstalk forest. Our guide Zach was friendly and encouraging as we went through the course. We only hiked one trail, but it was labeled very well. I will say that the park only has porta potties so go before you arrive. There's a gas station nearby with clean bathrooms.
Jeff Honea
Put on your walking shoes as nothing is near the parking lot. Lots of bikes, jogging and hikers with pets share trails that are various degrees of difficulty.
johnathan Fritz
Great afternoon hike. Would love more description of the buildings around the mine and how it all worked. Trails were well groomed, will definitely be returning with my bike.
Preston Robinson III
This is the perfect park for hiking cycling, or zip lining. There's no entrance fee to hike but there are other activities that have a cost associated. The park is built on the old mines of Birmingham so you’ll get a history lesson along your walk as well. My wife and I originally came for the zip lining but they were booked so we ended up walking to the top of the overview point instead. It took us about an hour and fifteen minutes to get there with a casual stride. The temperature was around ninety-five degrees but felt more around mid-seventies under the trees. We enjoyed the peace of unplugging from our phones and conversing…something we don’t do too often due to city living. The park recommends booking ahead of time for zip lining. Check their website for pricing and availability. We will definitely be back.
Sergio W
Great place to just be with God and Nature!
lsti 10
Absolutely beautiful trails. We enjoyed our visit. It is very kid friendly and a perfect outing for your family. You can even pack a picnic👍 …
FELICIA Foster
Be sure u know where ur going beforehand 🤣🤣. We got a little lost yesterday but it turned out ok. We've been to the park plenty and love it each time …
Josh Herbinger
The dog park is awesome. All the dogs play well with one another and everyone is respectful
Tommy Bland
This is a great, well-maintained dog park. Our dogs love it, and we visit often!
Melissa Estes
My favorite place to be on the weekends! Whether you want an easy walk or a tough hike, they have it all! And the dog park is amazing!
Janet Krantz
Our group adventure was fabulous!! The guides were awesome - very attentive to safety and lots of fun, they interacted well with everyone in our group. We will definitely book another adventure in the near future!
Lindsay Lyles
This is such a fun place! Trails, old ore mines, a fantastic dog park, picnic tables in several places throughout. Several historical sites/markers with more to come. This is a fairly new park and they're continuing to add more and make it even better.
Lauren A
Very well kept nature trail park. This park has a variety of trails to walk and hike. I really recommend taking your dog to the dog park here.
Sarah McCullough
Nice flat trail for us seniors, but great climbs and spectacular views on top of the ridge. Nice dog park and we'll marked trails. Birmingham history!
Rishi Deshpande
The park has lots of fun activities for everyone who wants to spend some time outdoors. They have a mountain biking trail, hiking trails, zipline courses, obstacle course and lot more. They are also close to the city so you can go there for a quick hike even during your lunch break.
Beverly Echols
I took my two 11 year old grands to celebrate one of their birthdays. They were nervously excited about the adventure. Erica and Drea were super cool and fun and made the grands feel safe and comfortable. We had a blast and made a fun memory. We will definitely go back for more!😎🌳 …
Keith Barron
Great walk/hike
Zach McAuley
Support this park! It's a great addition to the Birmingham metro hiking scene. They have other attractions that I can't personally speak to, but the trails are well maintained and good for an easy and accessible to just about anyone hike. No major obstacles or true climbs to make, at least on the several trails we have been on.
J Simmons
Very large but on a Tuesday, it was almost all to ourselves. Which was nice. Plenty of places/trails to walk and a few zip lines, with additional activities-but didn't appeal to us. Even a little dog park. At the park entry there was someone to give info if we needed and maps. Not real pretty though.
Rowen Akers
Such a beautiful and peaceful place there. I try and go out there everyday. And on the weekends, I might stay from open to close just relaxing in my hammock. The further you go from the entrance, the more peaceful it becomes. I absolutely love it and recommend going there.
Nazary Nebeluk
Just an overall awesome park. I went to do the Hugh Kaul Beanstalk Forest with my girlfriend and loved it. Worth every penny. It's really well done and the harnesses make you feel super safe. The challenges themselves are pretty fun to figure out - although I'd avoid the "rock wall" segment. Also the skateboard like thing was really hard to master - I never did. Our guide was really friendly and let us explore on our own but was present to respond to questions. Afterwards we hiked around the park a little bit more and just enjoyed the views. I wish I lived close so I could come back.
Joel Blackstock (LICSW MSW PIP)
Incredible park. The best hiking in the state. The hiking trail showcases historic mine shafts and elevators and has several tree house overlooks at the top of the mountain. They have a dog park, zip-lines and climbing wall.
Tiffany Hall
This is definitely my go to place for hiking! Awesome trails. And thank you so much for the awesome high ropes experience.... My girls had a great time!
Brandi Hammond
Needed a little bit of upkeep on the trails but a nice walk with lots of diverse trails. Porta potties were well supplied and clean!
Miriam Unterreiner
Very nice for a half day trip with family/friends. Shoes will get dirty though
John Amari
This is at least the 5th year in a row that we held a team building (16-20 people) type event at the park. The guides always do a wonderful job informing the group on the history of the park. The Mega Zip is a blast every year. As Birmingham residents we are fortunate to have such an awesome resource so close to where we work and live.
Kellet May
Great place to get some fresh air, exercise, and nature.
Landon Rakestraw
Really awesome hiking areas. There were a lot of people there and it didn’t feel like it. Really wish they’d open the mines for exploration, but I know that’s unlikely.
Chris Reed
Even with out spending the money on the zip line or the bean stalk forest it is a great place to go, my and my girlfriend love going and walking the trails plus it is a great place to learn the history of the area. I rate it five stars your whole family including the four legged one will have a great day
John Pruitt
Well maintained and marked trails. Great for walking, hiking or running. There is a large gravle parking lot across from the main entrance as well as parking along the road. There are no changing facilities beut there are few porta johns. If you can get up to the ridge line there are a few great overlooks where you can see the city.
Beth Moore
Had a blast on the zip-line tour. Brought family from out of town. Kelsey and Jel were terrific guides! Very knowledgeable and professional. I am not great with heights but they got me through it just fine. You have to try it at least once. Cant wait to come back and try ropes course and hike the trails.
Theda Roberts
I love going hiking here. It is very beautiful. They have so many different trails you can go on. They also have a zipline. I haven't been on the zipline but I hear it is very fun.
Stephanie Smith
Great trails for walking. They also have zip lines for kids and a dog park for your furry friends. They also have more difficult trails for the more experienced.
Chris Collins
We had a great time, but almost everything is closed and broken.
Laura Norris
Loved all the walking trails at Red Mountain! We haven't even come close to seeing everything, but all we went on was very shady and perfect for my 3 and 7 year old to do with us.
Jessica Farmer
Red Mountain is amazing. The trails are great, everything is covered. Easily accessible. They have zip line, segway tours, a dog park, hammock area, and more. I go there all the time
Jeremy (Momsboy32)
Really great dog park. Plenty of shade and water. Large area for the large dogs to run and play
Izz Noland
This is a great place for any outdoor enthusiast. From difficult trails to beautiful sites overlooking the city, all with great historical significance to Birmingham. Free to hike, and they nice paid adventures for all ages.
Wallace Schexnyder
The guides were very knowledgeable, patient, friendly and very funny. I brought my 80 yo mother for her first ziplines. Bethany, Tyler and Jerry or Gary. I'm not that good at names gave my mother the extra attention other people wouldn't have. Those guys were amazing
Ami Measel
Great hiking spot.
Wil Johnson
Great place to bring dogs. Only complaint is that there’s always dog owners who bring disobedient dogs that fight and they will just sit around and watch.
Jamie Coleman
My sister and I did the zip line adventure for her birthday! We had the best time. The scenery was beautiful, the zip lines were fun and our guides were great!
T “Lady T” CL
Nice park and walking trail. However, not very fond of the gravel.
Jonny
A really nice dog park with lots of space for dogs of all sizes to run and play. The fenced-in area is half covered by trees and half grassy field. Very nice!
Brian Geiger
Thus historic site for outdoor adventures is not far from Birmingham's city center. Hiking, mountain biking, a dog park and zipline adventure await visitors. Learn about iron ore mines. Hike to Grace's Gap for a beautiful overlook!
Anna Gleason
It’s fun to hike and walk your dog and bike here, but some of the signs are a little misleading. Some of the “overlooks” aren’t really overlooking much. Maybe a few trees. Still a fun place though.
Linda Mims
lots of trails and family friendly area. some bring their dogs. many trails are stroller friendly
Jessica Power
Spring break road trip landed us in Birmingham and a stop at Red Mountain Park. We registered online for the Beanstalk aerial adventure course and had a blast. Dre and D were excellent guides and kept us entertained while also giving us encouragement to try the harder courses. Highly recommend for all ages. Book online since tours sell out quickly.
Larry Dominguez
Beautiful trail! Has many side trails, and a dog park. The only negative was all the mosquitos that were trying to bite us.
Terry Green
I'll be back! Got caught in the rain, but will definitely get back there.
Terri Harrington
The dog park is nice. Three different areas for Special needs, small breed, and large dogs. Benches for parents to sit as well tennis balls for your fur babies.
Susan Jackson
Had the opportunity to zip line at Red Mountain. What a blast!! 'Drea and Zac were our guides, they were incredible. They made it fun and exciting, cracking jokes, keeping us laughing and showing tremendous customer care. It is a great experience for everyone.
Matt Smith
We held our 9th grade retreat at RMP and did the low ropes course with an extraordinary group of guides. Our students had a wonderful time because the guides were so good at helping them problem solve and glean lessons from the challenges. As a group that was using the adventure course, the park helped us cart our food and supplies in. There are no real shelters to speak of, but we knew that going in and it made the experience more "outdoorsy." We will return if we can next year.
Johnny O
Luv luv luv this park an exploring the trail system. Great for dog walking, kids and seniors as trails are wide flat and we'll marked. Parking is abundant.
Leon Tj
A hidden gem waiting to be discovered. The amenities continues to grow. Has trails galore. ...even a pet specific area.
If you need/want to get away from it all, try this park.
Rheagan
I love this dog park and red mountain park itself. The dog park has a section for Big dogs, small dogs and special needs dogs. You can also walk on the various trails they have in Red Mountain Park
Spencer Stantis
Wonderful place to go for a day hike and just enjoy nature. They also have a lot of fun activities to do like obstacle courses and climbing walls.
Christen Henry
So easy to get outside with this place in town. I spend hours out here. There's 2 different hammock sites the boy scouts built and I love it.
Shane Roberts
Great place for a quick get away!
E Keener
It's a very nice park, but parking is very inconvenient so most people park on the side of the road. The dog park is probably 1/4 from the road, so small dogs would likely be worn out just getting there.
esther mcwhirter
Beautiful hiking trails.
H Melville
Love this park! Lots of hiking and trails ..well-marked and varying terrain. Nice dog park and very fun adventure area!
Tracy Richards
We did the Vulcan Zip Line Adventure. So much fun. Our guides Gary, Art & Julia were awesome. Highly recommend and would do again.
T Clark
Lots of trails for easy hiking with little elevation. Watch the ants. No problems with parking.
David Hudman
One of my favorite parks and it's PRIVATELY owned. Meaning that it is actually possible to have parks without government involvement. Shocking. Granted, I imagine they have gotten some funds from the government over the years. However, so does every man, woman, and child in America. I'm pretty sure it's possible to have humans without government.
Daniel Anthony
Absolutely great place to take your Dog
Robin Bryant
A breathtaking memory when I went for my birthday. It is a home away from home. I love the friendly and help staff . Definitely recommend it for a outing whether your alone or with others. Officient and welcoming is always good.
Laura Marshall
I really enjoyed climbing on the adventure tower and the mega zip. I recommend working with the guides a bit more about their social skills and what is important to do/not do when you have customers around. They didn't try to talk with my husband and I at all, and when we tried to chat or make a joke, they had absolutely no response. It was just awkward sometimes. Secondly, some of the tree under maintenance so we couldn't climb up three different lines of the adventure tower; one being the very tall repel section. I paid full price for this activity and if sections were under maintenance, I feel as if the prices should have been reduced or I should have been aware of this.
Olivia Hart
I went to Red Mountain Park to do the Mega Zip line. It was great fun!
The park is lovely and well maintained. The staff at the zip line were great. Everyone had a lovely time.
Chris Hickman
We could stay here all day! We explored the mining locations. The kids loved searching for bugs and animal tracks.
Rebekah Tuck
My dog loves this place lots of room for her to run and play
Brian Brock
Great multi-use trails, large well maintained dog park with water for dogs, and all around cool place to be outdoors!
Alex Hannan
Outstanding park with good views (and a great dog park too).
Oscar Jimenez
Great place, well mark trails. Great for exercise, riding bikes and hiking. But remember it's a Mountain not a park come prepare. Go UAB!
Daniel Morris
Well marked trails and really good fun. Took our daughter as we are trying to get her ready for longer hikes.
S Thomas
Me and my family came here in March for my birthday. I wanted to do something different so I decided to zip line. From the start the staff was very helpful, and explain to us which zip would be better. Since this was our first time, we decided on the Red Ore Zip Tour. The guys on the tour with us were so helpful and patient. We had a lot of fun, it was a great experience for us. I will definitely be returning soon for the Mega Zip!!! If you are looking to zip line here in Birmingham, this is the best place to go!!
Adrean Douglas-Knight
The food was so fresh and we would be able to pick and choose what we wanted for lunch or dinner. These items are so soft and hypoallergenic!! You go cowboy yeeehaw!!!🐎🐎😋😂😂😂😍😍😍😍 …
Thomas Abountiolas
Easy loop to walk, nature inside the city of Birmingham AL
Jasper White
Very nice park, plenty of space. Just don't go after a good rain. There is a certain section that makes a very nice mudhole for all the dogs to get extra muddy in
Jim Crapia
Fantastic historical park with great trails, well marked and various challenge levels.
Alejandra Hernández Ortiz
Our dog loves this place!! Plenty of space for dogs to play
Lisa Lee
Great dog park. Has both large & small dog parks. Red Mountain Park is great place to hike
Tory Moody
Wife took me here for my birthday: well an early birthday ( Nov. 16th) since I'll have to work on my birthday, and went on the beginner zip line. It was fun; she was nervous, but even for my first time doing a zip line I wasn't only cause it wasn't the 80' zip line which IS something to be nervous about. Speaking of; I would like to do the 80' one some day...
Rooster Mornings
Great park. My favorite so far
P A Pennington
RMP is a gem of a park, nestled amidst the commerce and traffic that we all know as West Oxmoor/ Lakeshore. If you’re like me, you’ll enjoy the mining history and steer clear of the dog park or adventure areas, which are more popular with parents and hipsters. I personally like seclusion and some Birmingham parks get too much traffic.
There are overlooks and various highlights and the ridge top trails will give you a good workout as you climb. Nice park and it’s a treasure to Birmingham. Please bring a donation when you visit.
Randy Edwards
Went today with my wife and we had a great time. Did both the Vulcan Materials zip and the Mega zip. The staff are extremely nice and we'll trained. We are coming back soon for another event.
William Gaston
It was super peaceful for my small dog
Jacob
Wonderful park. Has a ton of varying difficulty walking trails. Mostly shady with several great views.
Mark H
Nice park to hike for the day. Several different trails, so you can trek new trails each trip if you'd like.
Philip Stewart
Fun place to visit and explore!
A A
Peaceful park with lots of shade for daytime hikes. Fun time on the zip line! Tour guides Drea and Bethany are awesome!
Marie Abraham
Very cool place to walk/hike. Definitely some pretty sights! Wear your gym shoes!

Erica and Dee were AMAZING! The park was clean with plenty of water stations along the trails. The entire staff was personable and professional. Great!
Rosemary Wendel
Clean and beautiful trails, super friendly staff and an incredible dog park!! my pup and i go almost 4 times a week! TWO THUMBS UP

Moved away from the area and red mountain is what I miss the most. Great area for hiking biking and casual walk. Amazing sights and small wild life! 5/5 stars!
Stephen Hayes
Such a great place. So much to explore. Great for hiking, trail running, dog park, mtn biking, and the ropes course. Some great views as well.
Mary Beth Elliott
Love this park! Great trails for running or walking, other fun activities, history and natural beauty. Also home to one of the best dog parks in Birmingham
Richard Coston
In town hiking/walking trails and dig park. Good opportunity for exercise without have to travel far. Trails well marked and maintained.
Anthony Davis
Great place if you want to go for a hike or just for a quick run or walk. Dog & Bike friendly.
Stone phillips
Perfect place to get your puppies and dogs socialized!
Taylor Parker
They have 3 sections for dogs; large, small and special needs. Adding the special needs area is a wonderful idea and needs to be implemented at other parks.
My only complaint would be other dog owners not respecting the park.
Dawn Jerry
Beautiful Park. Thoroughly enjoyed our hike after driving all morning. Wish we lived closer we'd be there often.
Mark Malinowski
Looking for good trails to run... Found this place... Very well maintained, nice variety of trails, happening, with enough distance to make it worth a drive. Truly a gem.
Javier Fernández
A very good place to visit if you like Nature and exercise!
Logan McChesney
Absolutely gorgeous! Great trails, cool history, just all around fun!
Rebecca Querin
My experience zip Lining was great! The two guides explained everything to us and made it an even more enjoyable moment.
Can't wait to do it again.
Mark Bridges
Great place for a hike or bike ride. Convenient, great re-purposing of this outdoor space
Aaron Dettling
So fun! Our dog had the time of his life. We found all the other dogs and people to be friendly.
James Colpo
I would describe it as, "A very nice hiking area, with plenty of trails of varying levels of difficulty." Five stars, five thumbs up, five... children dancing.
Kathy Brownell
Love the hiking trails here, get lost most every time and find new cool old parts of this place, up and down and beautiful scenery!!!
Madeline Hackney
Stopped in as a lay over on a road trip and the pups definitely enjoyed. Clean and quiet park with well maintained fencing. Three separate areas sorted by size and infirmity. A short walk from parking across the street and down a trail to reach the park.
Kaitlyn Marlowe
Super fun place for hiking/biking/picnicking. Just be warned, your shoes will be red when you leave.
Rinku Patel
My husband and I did the Play for a Day Combination Package, for $100 per person.. Sure it was fun, but waiting for everyone else killed it. We ended up doing every activity with a group of people and it was horrible. You would think for $200 you could get a private session for all the activities. So for the Mega Zip we ended up waiting 30 mins, bc the group we were supposed to go with was running late.... So we pretty much wasted a few hours in the entire day just waiting for people.. We started at 10 am, and got done at 3:45 pm... So if you plan to do all activities, give yourself the entire day bc you wont be the only one.. I suggest Adventure Park At Grants Mill, if you really want rope course to yourself and a 500 ft zipline in the end. At least you will go at your own pace and not on their schedule.
ruth miller
“Rope Course Fantastic Fun”
My husband, 2 15 year old nieces, and 11 year old son did the Hugh Kaul Beanstalk Forest rope course and it was challenging and fun. Dee was our course instructor (although it's really self guided she gives instructions and is there with you if you need advice or help at all).
Mitch Hutts
Great area with three large separate dog parks. Water available for the dogs.
imatt65
Fun trails to run!
Christopher South
If you visit Birmingham, this has to be on your list. An amazing outdoor experience with lots of gorgeous trails including single track.
Earl Hatcher
The Trails are Great for The Beginner to The More Experienced Hiker.
Denys Flores
Such a lovely trail. It was very kid friendly. I will have to bring my dog next time.
Briana Norris
I absolutely love the trails and they also have signs to guide you on your way... highly recommend and donations are welcome
Thomas Harrell
I did the zip line here and had a blast! The tour guides made sure I felt safe the whole time and had a great sense of humor.
I went here on a date and had a great time!
Patty Maddox
My dogs love going here! They know where we are we I turn off 150 they get so excited I have to keep the windows up so they dont jump out lol!!!
Harry Blalock (The Dude)
Well maintained. Love riding my bike there, trails for a full day excursion.
Aaron Roberts
Some of the least spidery trails in the area! Lots of good dogs and plenty of tree!
Faruk Yilmaz
Pinecones taste great but a homeless man peed on me while I was napping.
Mark Dean
Good trails. Great for gentle hikes. Lots of high ropes activities and things for children.
sean williamson
Amazing park, great trails for all skill levels and needs.
Jason Gabriel
Great, variable-length hiking / walking / running trails for the whole family. Challenging terrain and quiet surroundings. Highly recommended!
Megan Miles
This park has come a long way and they continue to improve it day by day. Great place for someone wanting an easy outdoors experience or family time.
john lillian
Hongshan Park is named after the Red Mountain. The Hongshan Mountain is composed of purple glutenite and is reddish, hence the name “Hongshan”. According to geological research, Hongshan was born in the Himalayas during the orogenic movement about 80 million years ago. There are rare fossil resources on the mountain. The ancient squid fossils and fossils resembling human shoe prints were discovered 270 million years ago. It's wonderful....
Blacksmithii5
Beautiful park. Great location, close to Hoover and is full of trails and scenic views!
Ram 2500 Tough
Great place to go and get some exercise without killing yourself. Nice easy trails.
Meg Stroh

The Dog Park consists of 3 fenced-in areas. One for small dogs, one for dogs with special needs, and the largest one for dogs 30 lbs or bigger. The small dog as well as the large dog areas offer shady parts underneath trees and an open field for running and playing. Water is provided, bags and trash cans, and a few benches to sit down and watch your dog. Users are welcoming and good about staying out of their dogs business until their dogs get aggressive or overly barky.
