Reviews of Kelly Ingram Park
James Kovach
Very moving experience. The phone-in audio tour was quirky but usable. Learned much more about the events that transpired there then I ever did in school. Every American should stop here.
Dave Cruz
Sorry about the dark photos, it was nearly nightfall when I took them.
I'm rating Kelly Ingram Park with 5 stars not because it's an enjoyable experience but a very heartfelt one. Regardless of your ethnicity, race, or melanin composition, everyone should pay a visit and remember the atrocities that occurred there decades ago. Lest we all forget the scars of our history and subject ourselves to repeating them.
DoReMi Fabrications
Very nice and educational. I had little knowledge of the events that had taken place there before coming to the park. The cell phone tour is GENIUS, my wife and I loved it. We even met a gentleman who was there when it all went down and he spoke to us as well. So sad, but so glad you preserved those pivotal points of our history.

This is a must visit! I learned a lot today, about the civil rights movement, that I didn't already know. I'm so grateful that this park is here for people to come and reflect

History told through art throughout Kelly Ingram Park. Each statue has an interpretive panel with information about the 1960’s civil rights struggle in Birmingham. Systemic inequalities are on display as many use the park to sleep in and/or to ask park-goers for money/ work.
Shannon Garcia
We took a phenomenal civil rights tour through Birmingham through TripAdvisor and he walked us through this park and history. Powerful; recommend Malcolm Gladwell‘s revisionist history on foot soldiers to learn more about the statue and the people it depicts.
Graeme M
The park is close by to the 16th Street Baptist church, just across the street. Think Bull Connor and the children’s crusade did change the world. 1963 was pivotal. The idea of kids being jailed is a breath taking testament to raw courage. It is one thing to protest safely, it is entirely another to risk your life and well being for. That is real guts. When you see Eyes on the Prize or other documentaries you have an image in your mind. It is a serene park with a powerful history. Wish we had more time to see the rest of Birmingham.
Tiffani Patterson
This park is across the street from the 16th Street Baptist Church and in the heart of the Birmingham Civil Rights District. It features a series of thought and emotion provoking statues and art installations depicting scenes from the Civil Rights Era and specifically 1963 when the church was bombed. This park is a must see on your visit to Birmingham.
Sherry Strong
Very well kept with informative and maintained statues and plaques. Convenient location in close proximity to church and museum.
Cora Tadeo
Powerful and educational park about the civil right movement. Beautifully put together with art work and signage. It gave me chills as we walked around. You learn so much in school but it’s always different when you are onsite. “At the center of non-violence stands the principle of Love” - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
mich Baird
Great history walk through the park of statues with a telephone audio guide.
Wallace Jordan
Amazing historical adventure, not for the weak of heart. A lot of work has taken place and continues to take place to enlighten the masses. We show the world how far you can go to achieve racial healing and harmony.
Kristina Hensley
We had some free time before our tour of the 16th Street Baptist Church, so we walked across the street to this park. There are signs you can follow for the Civil Rights Movement marches of 1963. There are also monuments and statues inside the park with signs explaining what each item is or represents. Definitely worth visiting when in the area.
Dan Bird
Amazing and sad story of civil rights movement. I visited this place 4 days before Martin Luther King day with my coworker who wanted to explore his heritage. I was a very appalled by the situations the marchers had to endure by local authorities. If you wanna check out the real story check out the museum across the street from the church.
Mari C. Smith
The Freedom Walk teaches/shows you so much about the history of the terrible things that happened in Birmingham and the fight to change the atrocities. I enjoyed the audio tour that we could call in and get further details on each stop. The reason for 4/5 is because of all the men (homeless or otherwise) that hang out there and congregate at one portion of the park or come up and try to give you an unsolicited tour (made it a little uncomfortable to view everything, and at our own pace), there doesn't seem to be any care given to the Reflection Pool and there's no water in it, and lastly because of the graffiti on the Pavilion.
Theressa Coleman
Fun time great music festival and Civil Rights Information
Joey Prentiss
Incredible place to learn about the civil rights movement. There is an interactive tour that is accessible by telephone. The stories and the sculptures are humbling. I didn't expect to feel as heavy as I felt. I also met Stanley who is in a wheelchair. Stanley offered to show me around. I found it best to walk in a clockwise direction. I highly recommend visiting the park as the civil rights was not that long ago and it effects you whether you recognize it or not.
Note: both the civil rights museum and baseball museum are closed on Mondays.
Vanessa Tate Finney
Make sure you call the phone number to do the audio walking tour. The exhibits are really powerful in terms of immersing yourself in the environment of the Birmingham Campaign. It's a shame the fountains were empty and not working. Also be aware that homeless people in Birmingham tend to hang around this area because it's high traffic for tourists.
Anwar Sadek
This is a part of history I only heard about but this place made me feel how horrible and sad the event was. Nice park and well built statues. Location is rough. Will highly suggest to go in a group so that you will not be harassed by homeless people.
Terrie Childress
We served the homeless here on a Saturday morning. It's very nice and has alot of history to offer. This park is very clean and a must see if you are in the area.
Janna Harrison
Beautiful. I've never seen a neon green butterfly until i visited here. Very important part of American History was captured here in statue and plaques. A lot of homeless people hanging in the park, but weren't a bother. They were very kind with greetings. We did happen to get one gentleman a meal at a Resturaunt called Ms B's a block away. We didn't eat there, so i cant give it a review.
Susan Scott Ferrell
A wonderful park next to the historic 16th Street Baptist Church. Unfortunately, there are quite a few panhandlers that approach quite aggressively. Definitely still worth seeing, but make your visit short and do not go at night.
J. Lanier
Very interesting exhibit from our past. Good to see the steps taken to work towards equality for all races.
Melissa Moore
A nice walk through civil rights exhibit.
Shannon Sankey
Visited with my mom and sister while enjoying the 4th Ave Jazz Festival. The history less we received gave us a greater appreciation for the many freedoms we enjoy today. Thank you Foot Soliders and All who sacrificed for me.
Mandi Benedict
I enjoyed the park, and monuments.. it’s right across the street from the Museum and 16th street church.. a lot of other historical buildings in the area as well. You can just feel the history for sure.. very powerful. I personally wasn’t too extremely bothered by the homeless folks. I would maybe be a little weary with kiddos though. We saw one guy who was shaking and talking to himself on the bench. Like I said, I was sympathetic for the guy, but it would be a shame for kids to see something like that at a park.
Terry Green
An eye opening experience for me to be able to take a trip back in time to gain a greater understanding as to how things were. It is a beautiful park, with a not so beautiful history.
Walter Miranda
What a beautiful place just bursting with history. The Freedom Walk was incredibly powerful and moving. When my son is old enough to understand, we will visit Birmingham and this park together.
Love Freeman
Enjoying the Civil Rights Market Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10-7 for both weekends
Becky Wigginton
A very informative park, hard, in that it makes your heart heavy and sad to see what people had to endure, but important so we learn not to repeat history
Jacqueline Cockrell
I have been practicing Kemetic Yoga within commUNITY lead by Mama Sanovia Muhammad for years now. Each year we do this outside gathering to connect with the Ancestors and our authentic African self. I am honored to be able to share this practice with her.
Nate Chertack
An amazing park, worth the visit. There are sculptures spread through the park with associated plaques telling the story of 1963 Birmingham. Many of the sculptures are extremely moving, evoking fear, sadness, and anger, but also hope for a better world. I went around sunrise and it was pretty good lighting for great photos. The park was pretty empty around that time.
Sara Beth Wade
This is a great experience! Especially as an add-on to the Civil Rights Museum. The museum isn't currently open, so I'm visiting what I can and the sculpture is well done and powerful in its own right.
I did get a little hustled though by a homeless man - he told me "those signs won't tell you anything, let me tell you everything" and launched into a barely understandable spiel that lasted for a few minutes. I didn't mind (and didn't feel threatened) but unless you want to part with some cash, you might want to tell him you don't have any up front.
Shawn Nix
The park itself was very interesting and there were many statues.
There is a downside though, there are a lot of homeless in the park and they have no issue approaching strangers. We were approached for separate times as we were walking through the park. You feel for them but it's a bit overwhelming.
Ashanta Harris
Park is historically interesting, next to AG Gaston's motel that catered to African Americans during g a period when no southern establishments did and held entertainment and activist meetings by the likes of MLK Jr. The reflection pool in the park is empty and the park could use a little TLC as people have ironically and in a hypocritical manner defaced a park dedicated to them by spray painting BLK and other movement rhetoric on the parks' surfaces. The park is currently run by the town but the federal government is soon taking it over to survey and maintain it properly.
Fredrick Thomas
This park is covered in Civil Rights History. The Monuments that are in place. 👍🏾 …
LV Grant
They have a number to dial that gives you info on your location. Mind blowing
JoVana Fairley
So much History. I urge every one to go during the week. They have too many *unofficial* tour guides on the Weekend.
A W
A great place to visit. Historic places in the area. This park is a great place to start.
Summer Rains
This place was very nice. There was a homeless man there screaming at us though. That was scary for my children.
Uzi Baram
a small, meaning-laded park in Birmingham, Alabama. The memorials to the the May 1963 Children's March in the shadow of the 16th Street Baptist Church are heart-breaking, effective reminders of the strength, courage, and resilience of the Civil Rights Revolution. A visit and walk through its pathways are an act of remembrance; my teenagers were moved by the lessons imprinted on the park's landscape
Ms Brown Sugar
World Games event, food trucks, different vendors, music and plenty of heat but shady with the trees, must have water and hand fan and enjoy the different educational views of the Park
Kel K
I married the love of my life in this historical park. Forever etched in my marital history.
Linda clark
Had a great time at this park very history orienting very nice and clean.
Paul “Easy Jewelry Marketing” Furse
It was a moving experience. The sculptures are very evocative. Only drawback was that a panhandler was bound and determined to tell me "his story", to the extent of following me around the park and singing to me. I had to leave to shed him (at which time he asked me for money).
I never did get to finish the cell phone based walking tour.
Evan Murphy
A little run down but a nice educational park to visit
Crystal Wiley
Be sure to call the number on the various plaquereds for more information. Only downfall is the homeless camps in the park.
Laura
I really enjoyed walking through this little piece of history. The many signs posted through the park gave a perfect explanation of the events. Definitely a must see. Best of all, it's free.
Brice Jackson
All BHMians should visit! It’s a rich place to teach our families about BHMs complex past, to remember the sacrifice of some many who fought for equal justice & opportunity for everyone in BHM, & prayerfully propel us toward a brighter future!
Kelly Hash
The self guided tour was wonderful!! Such a horrible history but thankful for the way it was presented and glad it is not forgotten.
Erica Hamilton
Civil Rights Marketplace is awesome!!! Please check it out. So many vendors and food trucks 😋😋😋 …
Leslie Jones
So much history packed into a small place. Self guiding audio tours are available.
Tamika Sims
I was here for the Magic City Classic Parade which was a great experience. I was right across from J.J. Pruitt....
Zandra Chestang
It's a good place to learn History that happened back in the the 1960's especially if you can't make it to the museum.
Lessie M. Davis Rodriguez
Each time I visit I see more history! It's still emotional to me since I lived it , participated in the demonstration , attended the services of the four girls , relocated and retired . Returned to Birmingham after 42 years and met one of the surviors- Collins. A beautiful Tribute for those dark days.
Crystal Stover-Webb
The statues are very powerful in their ability to convey their messages and overall i can see where the park has lots of potential, but the prevailing vibe as i read it seems to say that the potential will not be reached. Sadly, there is a sense of disinterest in this space, though i would think there is actually much that could easily and financially feasibly be done to give this park a much needed infusion of life, energy, and hope.
A. Hollis
It was really nice, all the food trucks were lined up on 3rd Ave
Jeremy South
The most humbling experiences one would ever have the privilege to obtain.
andrea jackson
Great I enjoyed the scenery and met some great peoples
Jordan Films
Very sadden about what has happened to colored people but thankfully people have made a memorial to remember the people who have helped us get where we are today
Jason Gibson
Nice park downtown Birmingham with history of the MLK March
Charles Timbers
Stark reminder that African Americans died and suffered immensely for this Nation. People forget.
Texanna J
This park definitely invokes all the feels about the Africa American experience during the struggle for equal treatment. The monuments took my breath away. We had some real conversation about the happenings, we looked up historical data and We left with a greater appreciation of what the fight for civil rights entailed for those sprayed with hoses and attacked by police and dogs.
PlainJaneGaming Bee H
This park was ground zero for Birmingham's civil rights movement. There is a fantastic free audio tour taking you from one amazing and powerful sculpture to the next. This tour was educational and awakening. I love this beautiful park. I'll definitely go back again. You can feel the history here. Very powerful place.
Momof 3Kds
We enjoyed all of the statues in this park. We could do the Civil Rights tour and the 16th street Baptist church was not opened due to covid. So this was a bit of a substitute.
There was a person blowing leaves and trash there "cleaning" so we had to scurry a bit because it was blowing on us. There were some people whom may have been homeless hanging out in the park so just br a little cautious and watchful there.
I would love to go back when everything is opened for a full tour.
Andrew Henderson
A wonderful slice of Birmingham history. A must visit historical civil rights site.
Terri McBride
This park provides a nice walk with moving statuary. It has great shade trees and it is adjacent to the 16th street Baptist church and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.
MrJcaston
What a powerful experience. I love history and this is a site to see. I was truly moved and inspired to do better and ensure the freedom of the generations to come. The park is well kept and simply beautiful.

A MUST visit! An important part of History. Nice park also
TJ Thompson
Living history and not forgetting. Met someone local that lived through the Civil Rights Moment and was there as a child to go through the park with and get a first-hand experience of the history there.
Rosa Williams
That was the most exuberating experience that I have ever had in my 64 years of living. There is so much history in Birmingham Alabama that every child needs to come and see this history because it would be a shame for us to continue to walk around being ignorant and not knowing what happened to our people.
Shir Carson
Educational, reflectional, and peaceful. Beautiful lawns and right across the street from the Civil Rights Institute, and 16th Street Baptist Church! Beautiful place to bring your children and or for peace of mind.
Daminick1980
Very moving park. The statues that tell Birminghams civil rights fight are powerful.
Emmaline Moore
Very beautiful and haunting history of the Civil Rights struggle for African Americans. We went at night which really made it a more sombre experience. There are a few homeless who stay there but they are harmless, usually asking for change and one gentleman walked around with us to point out each sculpture's meaning as well as the memorial to the Birmingham bombing victims across the way. Just use common sense and go with others if you visit in the evening.
Ken and Alicia Lund
Beautiful park with significant markers and civil rights sites in its midst.
Travis Wells
Very glad for the opportunity to take my son to this important location of our history as a nation. The park is well laid out, and the sculptures are hauntingly creative. As other reviewers have said- be prepared to be solicited by panhandlers.
Kale Blickenstaff
Important cultural landmark. Needs some TLC.
Billie McShane
This is such a cool park. I loved the walking tour to go along with the statues. I really learned a lot.
Alma Willingham
I grew up in Alabama and had never visited this historic landmark. It was so moving and full of history. I was so happy to be able to visit the sites in that area. I will definitely be back woth my family!!
Brandy H
The sculptures were moving and the march routes were very informative. When you come to the Civil Rights Museum make sure to walk this park. However, be prepared to fend off the 10+ homeless people that are following you around asking for money.
H Melville
Located in the heart of Birmingham's Civil Rights District, the site of so much history. Wonderfully moving sculptures remind visitors of those times. Visit the Civil Rights Institute & Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, then take a stroll through the park and enjoy a picnic. Soak in the history so that we never forget what came before.
Josh Levey
Park with powerful historical significance
Darrick Newsome
Loved the way it didn't simply show the courage of average people like most museums and parks of this kind do. This park went a bit further. The designers knew the torrid history of this area and found it fitting to show visitors that it wasnt all peaceful chants. It was hard. It was scary. It was powerful. This is a place to go to ensure we never forget this dark chapter of history so that hopefully we never repeat it.
Nicholas Miles
lovely 🥰 …

Great place to learn the history of the civil rights movement in Birmingham. Monument statues all over, and at least 3 guided paths you can walk around downtown to follow the different marches that took place during the movements. We followed the Palm Sunday March, which MLKJ had also participated in when he got arrested and then sent the famous letter from Birmingham jail. That took us to city hall and Linn Park, with at least 15 signs guiding the way and sharing inspirational thoughts, photos, and history, as well as ideas for discussion and education for young and old.
Matthew “The Joker” Lambertson
Good park, just ignore any homeless people who come up to you asking for money and they will leave you alone. The park has many monuments dedicated to those that played a part in the Civil Rights Movement. There is even a monument dedicated to the four girls who died in the sixteenth Street Baptist church bombing. Across the street from the civil rights movement. Kiddy corner from the park is the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. Only a few blocks from Linn Park.
Anne Hicks
The often brutal fight for civil rights is not that far behind us. Look at these statues and the church across the street and remember what has been gained...and lost. I started listening to the audio tour, but ended up talking to a elderly homeless man instead. The people in the park are the most respectful and placid homeless population that I have encountered in many decades of urban living. They were all sitting in what I assume are their spots, and stayed put. Nobody asked me for anything. I was there with my young son and elderly mother and did not feel unsafe. The only annoyance that I encountered was a younger man who came over from across the street and zoomed in on me with some story about a pregnant wife and blatantly asked for money.
Warren Jones
History comes to life through the vivid sculptures throughout the park. We didn't encounter any homeless people in the park like the previous reviewer, but there were a number of transients roaming the area so use caution.
Teresa Hill Berry
Those were truly hard times for African Americans. The park on represent a small amount of what black people had to go through. Don't think racism has gone away. Racism is still here to stay. Back in the day racism was in the jails and hospitals it still is. We've come a long ways and we still have a long ways to go.
Nikki Guthrie
The story of Kelly Ingram is one of valor and camaraderie, but it does not relate to the civil rights movement at all. It is time to rename this park! There are many sculptures sprinkled through the park, and these tell the story of the fight for equality. This park needs a tour on its own to be familiar with the works of art that abound. This park is also the beginning of a walking tour called "the freedom trail". I highly suggest this walking tour, one of many offered by the plaques that stand in the downtown area of Birmingham.
Nathan Keith
Great concept with recorded guided tours. Many of the displays are starting to rust and need to be restored. A dry 4 pool fountain in the middle of the park is the biggest sign that repair and restoration is needed. The park was pretty clean for a crumbling park.
Omar Ali
History History History you must take a walk down memory lane. You don't know your past you can't know your future. Must see for all that visit Birmingham. Sad but eventful Knowledge is change. Bring your cameras and tissue lasting memory.
Bevan Shores
Many walk by this park and don’t recognize they are walking on a historical site that changed the south. After touring the Human Rights Museum in Memphis, this brought to light much of what we learned there. The sculptures challenge you as you are able to see yourself in the perspective of those being horribly mistreated by racism. The dogs, the imprisonment, the water canons, the children killed by the church bombing. At the same site, you can see the march routes and follow those. Every 100 meters or so there is a marker with further information on what was going on at two key marches that took place. This isn’t something to be rushed through, allow yourself the time to experience what this place meant for history. Across the street from the park is 16th Street Baptist Church one of many churches bombed. After seeing the history of this site, it challenges you to think what your voice is about today...are there things that I need to be fighting for or speaking on behalf of??
R. O.
Visited this park on a whim. Made a two hour drive because of an episode of Malcolm Gladwell's Revisionist History podcast. The episode, Foot Soldier, is dedicated to a sculpture in the park. The park provoked a lot of thought and reflection about race in America and the evolving Civil rights movement. I recommend going during the day. I witnessed a man with mental illness become really agitated and aggressive when I was there. The police were able to de-escalate the situation and calm him down quickly, which was impressive - I didn't expect thing to go so smoothly. Hat's off to the officers who responded. That was the only drawback of the visit. We found a hotel without a reservation and enjoyed the night and next day in the city. Listen to the podcast and visit the park with someone you enjoy talking with. It's worth it.
Richard Siderko
A very well done step by step recount of Birmingham Civil rights protests through sculpture, statue and descriptive placards. Quite moving
Gives one pause for trying to imdert how some could be so cruel to fellow humans because of the color of their skin and I'm particular children of the color of their skin. The park is very well kept. It needs to be preserved as as reminder of what happened. One block away is the Citizens Drugstore building. Meter parking on street.
Vero Jarrett
Very educational park.
Krissy Tucker
Beautiful place. I seen previous posts about the homeless....they are there but didn't bother us. I did see as the day went on they were talking to some people at the park. I wouldn't let this discourage you from visiting this beautiful historical important place!
Terminal Frost
Very humbling. History isn't always understandable, however it is... history to learn from.
Vickie “Doll” Banks
Yes my brothers of the Birmingham Barber's coalition will be there every 3rd Sunday doing free cuts too the homeless, also free hygiene and food will be available Aug 15th 2021 from 8 a.m until gone🙏🏽Also catch me as I sponsor this event with alot of great Alabama business owners💪🏾💪🏾 from MyVicsin Treats catering and more.. #Blessingsbham
Carla Abernathy
Very informative and brought alot of emotions I didn't think I had. Until you are there you really don't know the full scope of it. Recommend going
Silas Robertshaw
Across the street from the 16th St Baptist church, this place pulses with history, of both hope and the oppression from which that hope sprang. I was sad the civil rights museum was closed, but the park is uplifting all by itself.
Dewey Pittman Jr
I took a minute to walk through the park. I had just left the area a week prior because of jury duty. It hit me how history is right here in Birmingham. Moving throughout this city with my eyes 'wide shut'
Michael “Prince” Watson
Extremely informative park giving vivid depictions of the hardships of blacks during the segregation of the south. Well kept lawns. Adjacent to 16th Street Baptist Church and The Civil Rights Institute & Museum.
Mary Williford
You may not expect a public park to have much historical interpretation, but this one truly does, and in such creative and interesting ways. It's a very central location and a must-see if you're going by 16th St Baptist or need to kill time before heading into the Civil Rights Institute.
Carson Elmore
A wonderful park that's at the center of Birmingham culture. Everything from major activism to a family picnic takes place in this park. A great example of the civil Rights history of the area, also, where many of the new civil rights trails converge. A truly Birmingham park.
Malia Fort
A living monument to acknowledge and honor the sacrifices and suffering of those who fought for our Civil Rights. The statues & plaques situated throughout the park tell the story of triumph in a unique & beautiful park.
Jeramy Bowie
Very informative, and a very beautiful park.
Brent
Nice, clean civil rights themed small Park
Gloria Jones
It was a feeling of sadness of what my ancestors went through for Justice, and the importance of Black People getting the opportunity to vote...
Donald Cooper
This park which sits catty-corner to the 16th Street Baptist Church features several pieces of evocative and exquisite statuary which commemorate key moments from the Civil Rights Era.
The natural setting is conducive for quiet contemplation.
Ken Faubel
Interesting place a short walk from my hotel. I wanted to see the Foot Soldier after listening to a Malcolm Gladwell podcast and to see where some of the cival rights activity took place. There are folks who will give you an informal tour and will ask for a tip at the end.
Kelsey
A park with historical significance. Came for Juneteenth but learned more from the statues and markers. Nearby the Birmingham Civil Rights Museum. You should visit both for a fil picture of the movement's history in Birmingham.
Dennis Toney
Beautiful historic journey to see along the path.
David Olsen
This is "sacred ground" in Birmingham. It is a must visit place if you are here from out of town and it is a must visit place if you live here in Birmingham. The park is beautiful and you will leave a new knowledge of the important demonstrations that happened here and inspired to take on the challenges that we continue to face.
Jen Walker
This park instills such inspiration in your soul
Bridget Griggs PhD
We visited the RESPECT Rally at the park and it was lovely to participate with that as well as be able to walk through the park to explain African American history to my son through the art available throughout the park.
Veronica Jarrett (JJ)
This park was amazing.
Kristen Addington
Lots of history here! Needs the fountain repaired. Several homeless men followed us around
Monica Raybon
Nice little place. .. sunshine, fresh air, easy parking, easy on/off. I-65, MLK statue, near the church and civil rights center
Eve Edstrom
My kids (aged 12 and 9) and I walked through and read each station.
We were all honestly taken up in the moment and very much enjoyed visiting the park
We paused for a long while to read about the four little girls killed in the 1963 bombing at the 16th Street Baptist Church...it was all a great stop to make in culmination of reading "The Watsons Go To Birmingham 1963" by Christopher Paul Curtis.
We did want to visit the Civil Rights' Institute but it was closed on the Monday we happened to be there.
Vikki Grodner
The rich history of this corner in Birmingham should not go unnoticed when visiting the city. At the epicenter of the civil Rights movement, Kelly Ingram Park continues to provide the stage for some of the nation's and the area's most important political and societal conversations.
Tom Cutts
Site on Civil Rights Trail. Here hundreds of young people gathered to boycott and sit in local businesses to protest segregation. Near historic church that was bombed, and four little girls were killed.
Leon Da 1
Very touching walking in the steps of civil rights history. Touching . Heart felt. Uplifting.Energizing . Thank God for our ancestors an their struggle sacrifice for the betterment of all people!
Sina Skates
A good place to gather for events, rallies or protest. Lots of history here.
Ping Vuong
Very peaceful
Yolanda Byrd

Lovely park. I was immediately approached by a fella who I believe was homeless. He took me around and really gave me a good tour and told me things that I would not have known otherwise. He did expect to be paid for his services. That would have been fine....but I was approached by 4 other gentlemen for money while I was trying to get back to my car.
Maybe the city could pay some of those guys to give tours. And discourage others from panhandling in the park.

This is a wonderful and informative park to visit across from the civil right's museum and 16th street Baptist church where 4 little girls were killed in basement bombing and the other corner, author shores law firm whose family I spent many years visiting and did my divorce which is not one of my happiest days I felt like I'd lost a child for a finalized minute or two October 27, 2005. Sobering and I rarely drink anything alcoholic not even on wedding day the one day I did Not buy a new outfit at Monday between classes at Miles College. Left Biochemistry Dr. Subramanian class and returned a newlywed bride age 32 thought I was grown with my mother in attendance probably saying at last! I thought I heard GOD'S APPROVAL. Must have been the pilot light on the stove cooking all that meat his left side of refrigerator the first 2 years then it stopped working empty. That was the first major kitchen appliance I had ever purchased from the one his mother gave him buying herself a new one. She came to visit asking where's "Her" refrigerator. In my best non orajel voice I could muster to the sweet lady outside somewhere.
Lynda Jordan

There was so much great Civil rights history in one area. Just down the street 4th Avenue District in Birmingham AL. A must go to visit area.

Heartwrenching! History created off just doing the right thing...and it hurt children as well!
Adults, on both ends of the color spectrum, still need to do the right thing because it is the right thing to do not because it makes you uncomfortable.
Christian life in this carnal world is not comfortable! Everybody man up! The kids did in 1963 and still do in 2018!
