The Eclectic Life

Really good experience at this store. The staff were very helpful with getting me all the different sizes of hiking boots I needed to try on. I was pleased with their boot selection, as well as hiking socks. The cashier was friendly and helped me sign up for an REI membership. The store has good prices and a nice variety of items. If they don't have what you want in stock you can just order it online and have it sent to the store. Parking is good too as they have a lot. This is just off 83 and York Road, so very easy to get to. I will be returning again. Thanks! 👍

Love this place. Great customer service! Never had a bad experience! Pricey, but you get what you pay for. So it's worth every penny! Become a lifetime member (for a small one time fee) and you get a dividend back in March and other benefits. The more you spend the more you get back! Did I say I love this place?

REI is a tad bit more expensive than what you can get elsewhere because of the dividends you earn on purchases but I buy almost everything there. They have great selection and great products but the difference is the customer service. Those folks are not only super knowledgeable but friendly and eager to make a difference in helping you find what is going to work for you. There is absolutely zero high pressure sales only educated recommendations that are useful. And of course who can beat the return policy. Bring anything back within 12 months of purchase and they will gladly take it back. Incredible.

They have large selection of outdoor goods. They also have REI brand goods available. In my opinion REI brand goods have cheaper coast and great quality then competition. You will find anything outdoor activities related. REI employees have deep knowledge of camping, skiing, snowboarding, road and mountain biking, water related activities and in other areas. They are nice and friendly people. I am regular customer of REI.

Went to get a pair of walking shoes that I liked from Altra. They were nice but needed more padding. I liked the larger toe box in the Altra but the sales person found me a pair of Hoka Bondi 7's that were on sale and even better than the ones I was getting. Thank you REI.

Today ways their Labor Day sale, most 20-25% off so plenty to pick from. Timonium, MD store kind of small, but geared towards the right customers; bikes, clothing and backpacks, though. Just not big enough climbing community. Always lots of help, plenty of cashier to help the lines, and plenty online. Recommended.

Went there during their Anniversary sale (unknowingly), wanted to buy some Salomon boots. Very helpful in the shoe department, didn't have my size, referred to online and can be done upfront. Graham was my checkout man, he helped me find my very old account and updated it, credit card machines were going down while I was in line, VERY BUSY! But Graham was the man and so so very helpful and patient with me and my girlfriend. Due to the credit card machines not working, I ordered from home with the coupon code Graham gave me. It had been a while since I was in REI, but it was all hands on deck there and great teamwork. I wanted to contact REI to give Graham a good review, but this is the best way. Thank you for all your help, you put in your time for me, so I'll give back giving a review.

Its a good place to go for hiking/camping gear. REI website has way more variety (eg marmot stuff online, not in store) and available sizes than the stores. And, online orders ship free to your local store.

Love the store and the ability to get last minute camping items. Always clean and tidy and the associates are fantastic. Can be a bit pricey though. If you are an outdoor person and plan to shop here more than once join the co-op. It will pay for itself in a couple of visits with the co-op annual rebate.

I went here the day after Christmas to get a new day pack. The woman who helped me was knowledgeable, friendly, attentive, and really helpful with questions and sharing her personal experience with different packs. The cashier was also awesome. I signed up to be a member and she helped me save money and applied a very recent non member purchase to my membership. The store seemed to be very well stocked considering it was the day after Christmas. Excellent experience. I’ll be back.

I just wish they had a store closer to me. 45 miles, and a heavy-trafficed area. Supposedly a store is going in at Lancaster, PA??

Got suited up for brand new packs and Harold in the backpack section was on point. This is how you sell things this man spent half hour with me. Suited me, he helped adjust my pack, added weight, and when I explained I was doing less then 10 day hikes and he guided me to a whole different pack and repeated with me then did this all again with my wife. He is awesome and made this experience for me.

Shout out to REI’s Aidan and others there for fantastic service and support. We brought our Flycraft Stealth river raft to the store to eyeball if it would fit in Yakima’s largest skybox (21cf) car topper. Aidan helped bring the Yakima skybox outside and we laid out the disassembled raft frame, seats and deflated pontoons side by side. It’s a fit, as my wife Sherry, confirmed. And the skybox is also a fit on the 2018 Toyota Highlander factory roof rack. So ... all is ready - August 6 we leave Baltimore, Maryland and drive to Fernie, BC with our ancient Beagle, Harris. Searching for North Slope cutthroat trout on the fly.

Best co-op around! Great prices on active wear, walking and hiking shoes/boots, bikes, boats, paddles and more. My favorite place for smart wool sock, buying 3 pair gets you a discount. My only complaint is that they don't carry plus sizes at this store. They do on line and at other retail locations just not here!

Visited to get a new watch. They were incredibly helpful. They has an associate that greeted us at the door to help direct us to the correct location or the store for what I was looking for, and called another associate over the radio to meet us at the watches. The process was super quick and easy!

The staff here are super helpful and passionate. John c (JC), I forget his last name, was so kind and helpful in preparing me for an upcoming trip, as well as very knowledgeable and experienced. If you’re a beginner of anything they cater to, I recommend coming here and they will teach you lots. They are honest and genuinely want to help you, and won’t try to upsell you or sell you anything you don’t need. I think I’m in a much better, safer position leaving for my trip.

The store is well organized and the staff are extremely helpful to make sure you get exactly what you need for the type of trip you're about to make. I love their used section because you can find gently used camping gear at reduced price. Also, becoming a member is great because you can earn dividend returns on full price purchases and have access to members only coupons.

Sarah (bike tech) was so helpful and knowledgeable on my repairs and the additions that I wanted. And the turn-around time was super quick- 2 days! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 Ethan (bike sales) thoroughly explained proper cleaning care of my daily riding which will help my bike last longer. #getoutside :)

Great store, great location with easy access and parking. Very helpful staff and a great selection of all kinds of outdoor sports and leisure gear. Only reason I docked a star is due to prices on many items being astronomically high. The 10% dividend for being a member helps, but pricing (especially on apparel) is very high at REI. Overall though, for people interested in the outdoors, great store and this REI in particular is highly recommended for the helpfulness of the staff

I am amazed at how helpful and knowledgeable the staff are here. In particular I was looking at down jackets, and it's nice to see employees know more than the research I did online. I was super happy with my shopping experience here multiple times. It's well worth being a member, $20 for life, so be sure to sign up and save.

I absolutely love this place. Yes it has the perfect variety of awesome gear of all sorts. But on top of that, the staff is 100% real, honest, enthusiastic, outdoorsy, knowledgeable, helpful, cool AF, trustworthy, and simply great. Plus, a lifetime membership costs $20 and you earn 10% on every purchase you make, in-store or online. It's flipping great. Can't beat it. Oh yeah, there's a sushi joint, pizza joint, and sports clips next door. If you love the outdoors and you don't know yet, then you need to wake up and head over.

Sales staff was great and very knowledgeable. Found a GPS watch here that was less expensive than Amazon. Thier return policy is 2nd to none which is important if you're making a big investment. I would pay a little more to shop here if necessary knowing that I get money back every year for being a member, the fantastic refund policy, and staff that doesn't try to upsell you.

First and foremost: Tyler and Jonathon were the BEST representatives of the store. They had an extremely formative role in our positive experience. Tyler greeted us and responded with a wealth of knowledge regarding minimalist shoes when I said that I had come for Vibram Fivefinger shoes. If he had answered my question (addressed below) of whether the store had those shoes with a one word answer, we would have left since they didn’t have them. Instead he advised at least checking out two other brands in a very genuine way, one with an endorsement of the shoes he had on his own feet. That took us to the shoe section where Jonathan was extremely educational and generous with his time. We ended up buying a pair of Altras that are proving a great purchase. We also got a pair of Merrell‘s for me, that unfortunately I’ll have to return because they just aren’t quite what I need. Jonathan acknowledged that at the time though and explained the return policy. (I’m comfortable with the fact that I bought and tried them. Nothing ventured...) These two employees were just so helpful and cordial! And mind you, this was very close to closing when I would have completely understood effort flagging or wanting to get out of there. Both were instead enthusiastic and unhurried. The fifth star would have been earned had the physical store carried any version of the Vibram Fivefinger shoe. REI is listed as a distributor for the brand and it is the brand’s hallmark shoe. It comes in many styles, and I would have been happy to try on literally any version to see if it worked for my minimalist shoe goals. Alas, the store carried (if I recall correctly) only one shoe by Vibram, and it was a very traditional style similar to any of the other shoes there. Same goes for the website. I would encourage expanding the selection to include at least one version.

Very consistent with good service and consistent availability, or the ability to obtain/order items not in store in a timely manner. I have been a member for just over 5 years and have had mostly positive experiences. There have been some times when I needed advice and knew more about the products than the individuals that worked there. The main things they could improve is the selection of certain highly-rated, 'in-demand' items, as the stores seem to focus on certain brands in store without representation of many of their very popular online offerings. The Service Associate knowledge and education can also use help at times. The free clinics and open advice bring what could be a 3 star rating back up to a solid 4. I can see myself being a regular/member for many years to come.

Things tend to be pricey, but return policy is generous, and the staff is very knowledgeable. They helped me select a pair of trekking poles which I wasn't sure I needed but was very glad I got. Reliable bike repair. Useful seminars. Great outings. Bonuses once you join: the lifetime membership is worth it. Unfortunately they no longer carry Tevas, but wouldn't go anywhere else for hiking boots. Equipment for kayaking, biking, hiking, camping, running, backpacking.

Wanted to thank Tricia, Employee ID 153656 at the Timonium, Md. store(63 West Aylesbury Rd.). My boyfriend and I needed to get new hiking boots for our upcoming trip to Acadia. Tricia greeted us politely and suggested a few types of boots for both of us. She then measured us to make sure we had the right fit and was very reassuring about the entire process. It started to get busier but she was great at multitasking with other customers and returning to us to see if we needed anything. It was evident that Tricia enjoys her job and is very knowledgeable about hiking footwear. We couldn't have had a better experience. It is great to see their signs throughout the store about which local organizations they as a business and us as customers/members in the co-op are supporting!

I always feel like they are helping me find what works best for me rather trying to just sell me on something. Also obviously REI has the best return policy in the world.

I slightly prefer this location to the one in Columbia. I think they have more stuff on clearance at any given time (why pay full price if you don't have to?) than the Columbia location. Other than that, all of the REIs in the area are about the same. The staff are fairly knowledgeable and helpful and don't immediately ask you if you're an REI member as you're walking through the door anymore.

First stop-backpacks where employee Eric took his time and patiently fitted me in the various brands to make sure I would get an excellent fit! Then over to shoes where employee Barbara made certain I chose the best shoe for my need instead of me simply pick out what Inthought was “cute”...she knows how to ask all of the right questions to say the least!!! Everyone was so friendly and I was impressed that both Eric and Barbara were so incredibly KNOWLEDGEABLE!!! Curtious AND Knowledge...that’s the difference at this REI location!!! Slowly turning into a beer camping store... The chain as a whole attempts to cater to people with more wild outdoor hobbies but the Timonium store barely carries any backpacking stoves or mess kits... Sadly the gear you really need to see in person is mostly only available online. I've been shopping here for years and I see more and more clothes and nonsense gadgets for car campers and less and less gear for through hikers and climbers.

6-28-2016 Awesome Store and Gear! Sales people very knowlegable of Equipment! ie. Hiking Boots-explained how the GORE-TEX works, keeping water out and allow sweat to escape! Also traction and grip, even how to tie them to help set your foot down into the boot! Their attitude shows their experiance and knowlege and they really privide information for you to deceide what will work best for you! They carry an awesome selection of gear for Cycling, Kayaking, Hiking, Climbing, Camping, Backpacking & Running! This REI store is 68 miles from home, but I will be back many times!
