Reviews of Glen Echo Park
beyondTabu
Nice open area. The aquarium is a must visit, as well as the carousel.
Even though the aquarium is small, there’s lots of info provided on the local aquatic life and they have a life fish in tanks to see.
Not much else was open though.
Def has potential.
Moving on with Old Man River Old man river
The national park service is not on-site at this time. I was told the park information and stamps were in rhe tan building next to the carousel. It is a100 year old carousel, it was operating when I got there. The price for rides is 2.00 or you can buy the 5.00 unlimited rides that day. I got the 5.00 wrist band, it was great and highly recommended.

Glen Echo park was a hidden gem along the Potomac River!
I went twice.
Once to a free outdoor jazz concert, which my dad loved!!
And then again to a puppet show with my granddaughter, which was really fun and entertaining.
The park is clean, parking is free, admission is free too!
There are artists activities, a playground, a carousel, snacks and drinks, an aquarium...
Lots of shade and places to picnic.
Love it!
Eileen
Glen echo is a park that seems to be a bit outdated. Most of everything is open during the weekends. Its very pretty though as youd want to sit and have a picnic lunch. Its definitely a place youd want to visit on weekends and check out. Its definitely a throw back
Clarke Fox
There's an unmistakable magic clinging to this place. An Art Deco sanctuary masquerading as a theme park tucked away on the banks of the Potomac, where it's evaded the passage of time. I went on a Friday night when nothing was happening and saw four or five people trickle through in two hours. Glen Echo Park is a peach, a gem, a must-see, with little wonders in every direction
CB DCDiva
Hidden gem and throwback to old DC, Glen Echo Park is a gorgeous vintage "amusement " park with vintage mid century buildings, attractions and grounds. The carousel, Spanish Ballroom and shops all give a seaside, Catskill, old time movie set vibe that is kid friendly and very walkable. Free to the public.
There are threatres, shows and rentable spaces for just about any occasion.
Tabitha King
Very neat park, especially for kids! I enjoyed the feeling of a vintage amusement park. Would love to come back in the evening to photograph the buildings.
Lou Fegans
Unique historic amusement park, worth a quick detour if you are in the area!
Parking: park at the large parking lot titled "Glen Echo Park Parking" and cross a beautiful stone bridge to reach the park.
Attraction: small historic amusement park managed by the National Park Service. There is an aquarium ($8), historic carousel ($5 for day pass), a theater, artist studios, small museum with art exhibits, and lots of buildings with historic decor. There are informational signs throughout the park highlighting the history.
Duration: If there are no events going on you could visit the site in 30min-1hr.
Be sure to also check out the Clare Barton NHS at the entrance to the parking lot.
Christina Shelby
Love it here. Love the history, love the carousel, love everything. It's come alive again with art studios and a theater, and the carousel is always the main draw for us. We were absolutely tickled that two of the old mini golf holes were uncovered. (My mom says her uncle used to give her and her sister a quarter for every hole in one!) Four generations of our family have been coming here, and hopefully more will continue to!

This place is honestly a hidden gem. The people are nice, the vintage architecture is beautiful, the history of the place is fascinating and the Carousel is a lot of fun. I’ve been here Twice; once when a lot of it was closed and was practically empty and then again during the annual Labor day weekend Art show when it was more busy and both times i had a lot of fun.
A lot of the buildings have been very well maintained and look just as Amazing an I assume the did back when it was a full on amusement park, and even the fenced off areas that aren’t as well maintained evoke this almost Jurassic Park-like energy of Nature reclaiming it in a beautiful way. Also the Spanish Ball Room is absolutely Stunning! Just as much of a masterpiece as the art that was displayed in it for the art show.
Honestly if you wanna see what’s here, I particularly recommend coming on a weekend or during an event when their hours are longer, but either way you should definitely check this place out if you’re in the area. It would probably work great if you’re into taking photographs in unique settings.
Oh and one more thing, hidden away in a little board walk area deep into the parking lot of the Clara Barton house next door there’s a little plaque or something giving interesting history on the massive collapse that lead to a part of the park disappearing, so that’s definitely worth seeking out. Either way, like i said, this place is cool. A little piece of amusement park history not that far from DC, but seemingly in the middle of nowhere.
Karen Mendez
Great social dance venue with wood floors and a full calendar of various dance classes and events. The puppet theater is good for school field trips. Playground and eating areas are perfect for anyone who enjoys the outdoors. Handmade crafts on display for sale with the artists available for questions (and compliments). Check schedule for open hours of art kiosks.
Krystal Hamlet
Loved being here especially after learning the history. Would be cool if they rebuilt this entire amusement park. But my son and I enjoyed the carousel and the beautiful trails.
Bradley Cohen
Awesome experience you really feel like you are stepping back in time. Only downside was most everything was closed on weekdays but that also meant it was empty and peaceful.
Robin Buck
Glen Echo Park is absolutely enchanting. Especially the lovingly restored Spanish Ballroom, where dancers have enjoyed twirling to live music for nearly 100 years.
M Larsen
Glen Echo is an active, revitalized arts & play park built on the bones of a one-time theme park. The carousel still operates, and you can visit the galleries housed in various structures to view and buy artwork as well as take classes. There are dance nights, an aquarium, and a hidden draw in the bridge to the parking lot that crosses a small stream, from which you can view an old train trestle in the woods. Great place to explore.
Wizabella Marquette
It's a beautiful park. Take a day off and go enjoy the outdoors!!!
Barbara Gstalder
A Very nice walk from the parking lot. Some artist showing ceramics, jewelry and art. Benches to sit and relax. Lots of families having picnics and children on the playground.
H Greenjeans
This place is awesome! Not currently running due to Covid, but it was like stepping into a time warp. Can't wait to check out shows and the carousel when it opens again! Looks like lots of classes are offered too.
amanda waugh
Clinical is a beautiful and unique gem of a park tucked outside the city. The carousel is gorgeous and unusual.
Jeff Tong
A quiet place with numerous small wonders. The Spanish ballroom is elegant, open, and breezy especially in summer. There are several art related buildings that teach photography, painting, glass art, and pottery. There's also a carousel and aquarium.
Felicia With Fins
Came for a Saturday night swing dancing event, and was blown away by the community feel, quality instruction, and the Spanish ballroom is beautiful. Be sure to wear a jacket or dress in layers in the winter because it was quite chilly in the ballroom. Once you start dancing though it’s perfect! There was heating in the snack bar. Only negative was the coffee was not good haha.
Tim Armstrong
Awesome ambiance, I only wish there were more to do, and more artisans. That's an awful lot of pottery. Kind of a cross between a cool park and resident evil. 70/30. No zombies.
Paola Nuñez
Great place to enjoy family walks. Adventure theater offers a great variety of children’s play. Enjoyed the production of The Cat in The Hat. Will definitely visit again.
Novi Beerens
Absolutely amazing spot. It’s beautiful path from the bridge overlooking the creek and then voila you’re stepping into a vintage amusement park along with a beautiful ballroom!!!
Ovando Brown
Felt like walking into the past to some degree, but it was an absolute blast for night time photography 📸 …
Sakinah Stewart
Cute place!!! I love this park. The carousel is fixed and I love that they let adults without kids ride. I had a wonderful time.
C Sands
The carousel here is well worth visiting on its own merit. I have included a picture of the music rolls for the Wurlitzer organ. The carousel will undergo some work and be shut down from July 2019 until it reopens for the 2020 season.
Also worth seeing is the art glass studio. Lots of interesting pieces, including necklaces, earrings, and dishes, etc. I have included a picture of the door with its operating hours.
The Clara Barton house is also a great piece of history to visit. Free guided tours are available, and our tour guide was very knowledgeable. Kid-friendly as well; older kids will enjoy doing the Junior Ranger program to earn a badge while visiting.
William West Hopper (DC Car Guy)
History, art, and relaxation all in one place. A stroll around this artist colony which once was an iconic mid 20th century amusement park is pure joy for young and old. Lots to see from the working artists in their studios, to the original wooden carousel.
Timothy Galvelis
A very beautiful park. It's good to see some of the original structures being taken care of. A great partial step back in time.
Karen Smith
Its a kid friendly park with multiple art classes, music, puppet theatre and adult dance classes with live music swing bands and such on certain evenings.
Plus the carousel and a snack shop with picnic tables.
The carousel is open most weekends may to October. They have open house events throughout the spring summer season.Leafy back drop. Pleasent for kids and adults.
Oh they also have a little marine museum and a short film explaining the parks place in the Civil Rights movement from hot spring resort to amusement park to arts center.
Elizabeth Rosenberg
Such a beautiful place for an afternoon walk or for fun events! I love the contra dancing on Friday nights.
Betty Belanus
Attended a celebration of life for a friend which was held in the Bumper Car Pavilion. Great open venue for nice weather. (actual bumper cars long gone!)
Juergen S
Great experience. Dancing in the evening is a fun time. The aquarium is amazing for it's size. With a variety spanning turtles to seahorses, and a large selection of crabs, it is a great slection to occupy kids. Agreat experience for children, and they love the pirate ship play thing to climb on. The carousel is fun and nostalgic. The party rooms are good for average sized parties. The only downside is no hiking/nature trails. Overall, had a great time and look forward to going back.
Wayne Becker Becker
Relaxing park to take in the history of the old days. Beautiful Mary go round it's a free ride, a lot of hut's with craft's & small businesses.
Balaram Pradhan
A beautiful place to visit. Exciting place..
Love the place. You can spend your whole day here. Alot of things to do there.
Rodyna Zabbit
Under the collaborative supervision of the National Park Service and Montgomery County, the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture, Inc. works with resident artists and organizations to develop distinctive arts program; operates the historic carousel, Spanish Ballroom and social dance program; produces public and private event rentals; conducts fundraising and marketing; funds the management and maintenance of the facilities.
James Jackson
My favorite place in the entire world. Home of the famous and historic Dentzel Carousel. Been coming here since I was 3. I try to drive down in the summer, lots to see at this historic park. Clara Barton's home is not that far. They have lots of picnic benches, if you wanted to bring your own lunch. Glen Echo is like visiting a different time period. Glen Echo is truly the gem of Montgomery County. Good place for everyone of all ages to visit. One other fact, my dad use to know the people who ran the carousel. Stay awesome Glen Echo and continue to bring the next generation of children wonderful summer memories.
Nicholas Evans
It's ok to walk around for a bit, but the park has seen better days. National park stamps are in the arcade. There are bathrooms though
Anastasia Sarmakeeva
Perfect time machine. We was lucky to catch the place in fog, looked like in a horror movie 😈 …
Janie Colbert
They had a carousel that cost $ 2. 00 for one ride and $ 5 .00 for unlimited rides ...we ate lunch and the kiddos played on the small playground.
Matt Kline
A really neat little park with perfectly pristine restrooms.
Chris Nicoletti
The outdoor space is beautiful. Aside from the ferris wheel there is not too much to do.
Tania Hossain Photography (Wedding Stories By Tania)
Adore visiting Glen Echo park. So enchanting and intriguing. Love the working artists there. And a lovely place for us to photograph engagement sessions.
Ed Hodge
I went to a swing dance on Saturday night. A free lesson right before was fun! Very good music and a good time. Parking was easy.
Ron Samuels
A great historic venue that is dedicated to Joy, Harmony, Creativity, Passion and Fun. Great place for all manner of special celebrations and creating lifetime memories.
Kelvin Wright
I love parks of course this is a nice little park that I recently visited.
Chris Gramer
Amazing park with a puppet theater, ballroom, playground, and of course the Dentzel carousel, complete with Wurlitzer band organ!
Donya Carter
Great family fun
Sir Conrad
Spanish Dance House is so beautiful and great spacing for a... dance party. The food was really good (chicken slider) and the Moscow Mule dessert or churro dessert...take me away. The service was definitely personable, attentive and swift.
Janelle Joseph
Attended the Thursday evening band event...loved the music and atmosphere!
Doyle McClintock
Great history of dc and lots of fine jewelry and crafts to buy.
D Henley
A nice and unique space located in the outskirts of DC and a wonderful journey back through time. This is an amazing venue for local art, dancing and good times. Your kids will have a good time. You will have a good time. If you are are into to swing dancing or you have always wanted to learn, you have to check this place out! Oh, parking is limited, and it's a short walk over a bridge to get here, but it's totally worth it. By the way, they have an amazing, working old school carousel. Sooo cool.
Johnnie Meredith
Great lively place to swing dance. Parking is a little far away and it is still cold inside until you get moving. Make sure to bring your own water if you want to have something to drink. The people were all really nice and the building is super beautiful with an amazing historic dance floor. It was a great time that I would recommend to anyone interested.
I.E. Xam
A one time amusement park over 100 years old with many buildings preserved. Only National Park Service location for a former amusement park. Ballroom is open again for dances.
Glenn W. Schenck
Always special to go here. My wife and I got married here.
YF F
Pretty good place to spend a few hours with the kid.
E P
Great park. The carrousel is beautiful, and it has a number of fun activities for kids (puppet shows, a small aquarium etc). Buildings take you to the 60s, with a very relaxed vibe. Also has a playground and a coffee shop. Definitely worth a visit.
J Michael Galway
Always love visiting Glen Echo.
Mimi Hassett
Lots in bloom this time of the year. Founders day today with Carousel day coming up on April 27th
Cheri V
This place feels like you have stepped back in time - in all of the BEST ways. The place is beautifully preserved and kept up. The Spanish Ballroom is large and elegant with a proper stage for live bands and LOTS of room for dancing. The entire perimeter is lined with benches for resting or storing your personal stuff while you’re on the floor. Gorgeous calliope with hand carved horses just outside too.
Paul Meyer
Lots of historic charm! Well-preserved, unique place. Has a nice playground for kids, puppet theater, arts area, etc.
Accessible by transit via RideOn 29. Right on the C&O Canal if also want to do some hiking.
Don Rideout
Took my 5 y.o. grandson on a school field trip. It was fantastic. Carousel gives a good long ride and the music was perfect. Puppet theater was a kick. Playground was ideal. Historic buildings were beautiful. Wish we could have stayed all day.
Pradeep Varadan
Excellent park nested away in the border of Virginia and Maryland. Housing an antique Carousel, Pottery sheds and a childrens theater, the park is nested on glorious natural habitat. A magical walking trip across a wooden bridge welcomes you. We haven't explored the aquarium or the trails, but whatever we have seen is impressive and makes it a go to place for toddlers.
Joe Whittington
The last time I was here, it was still under going some renovations and restorations. The grounds are well maintained and I have heard stories that this place, especially the Crystal pool was really something back in the day. I watched a renaissance festival here which included knights in full battle dress doing mock fights. It was awsome! I recommend this place.
Nicalena Neary
Glen Echo Park is a National Park located in Glen Echo Maryland. The grounds are beautiful, natural trails, walking paths and a stream. The Famous Carousel opens the end of April. There is an Aquarium on site as well as the famous Spanish Ballroom where dances and lessons are given on most weekends. Many artist have studios on the premises. There's a large Pavilion and picnic tables outside. Classes in music and art are available. It's a nice way to spend a day.
Ivonne Magdaleno
Great place for children and adults to experience the arts. Small playground has been improved with rubber flooring. The Puppet Theater and Adventure Theater offer excellent shows for little ones and adults. Great art, glass, pottery, and dance classes all available here.
Kristin Dion
I've delighted in visiting this park for special events for years! The Spanish ballroom is historic and enchanting to dance in.
Dennis Hoke
It was fun to remember when I was young and enjoying the park. The roller coaster, bumper car's, pool arcade etc. It has been well taken care of, there's art classes you can join. Pottery etc. Great place
ytcarol
Was here for the expansive annual art show on Labor Day weekend. I especially love the pottery barn with so many unique pieces. Classes in many areas are taught all year round - online catalog. Glass blowing demonstrations. The carousel is currently closed (Sep 2019), under repair it looks like. Adventure Theater performances for kids. History display of the park's founding when it was all-white. Dancing in the big ballroom year round.
Nathan Hunt
Great and fun place. There are many great trails around it as well to walk around and enjoy the gorgeous nature by the Potomac river. Don't forget to stop by the Irish bar next to it too have a bite to eat. You will get to see many locals there. Enjoy...
Jim Carr Jr
Found this quaint park accidentally after making a wrong turn off the highway while heading south to Virginia. Was quite a nice place to visit. Got to ride on an old fashioned carousel, grabbed some snacks and coffee and walked around to look at the falls, pottery and other attractions. Was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed our little one hour break. If I'm ever back down that way, I would go back again and spend ab little more time there.
Rob L
A very cute arts and outdoors place the carousel is amazing and the history is cool.
Karen Cullen
Wasn't much open but beautiful to walk around!
Kyle Milbrand
Cool example of an old amusement park. I love how it's an artistic community now.
Nancy Kierstead
Absolutely stunning dance venue. Wonderful wooden floor. No partner necessary, and I found the people there to be very friendly. I am from New England and up there everyone dances with the name tag, so it was funny to me that people asked why I was wearing a name tag (of course I would bring my own, LOL!)
I will say it is a bit of a walk to get from the parking area to the Spanish Ballroom, which is where the dance is held.
Stephanie G
What a wonderful community center. I've seen a couple of events happening here and it's always such a beautiful venue. It's cool to see how the park allows for events that bring people together. The food at the cafe adjacent to the ballroom is pretty good and the staff are funny and friendly. Try the ice cream!
Zander Mav.
There are SO many things to do here. I’ve made wonderful discoveries in their art and dancing classes (I personally recommend the Swing dancing class on Saturdays - the instructors who are usually there are amazing and hilarious). Check online to get a sense of the opportunities. Some things need to be signed up for (art classes) but some don’t (swing dancing costs $15 and goes from 8:00 to 12:00).
Kim Gandy
I love this old amusement park! There's the historic Denzel Carousel for kids and adults alike, yurts where there are lessons of all kinds, a pottery studio, many artists, and best of all there are dances of different kinds on most nights of the week: swing, contra, blues, and lessons for all of them.
Diana Loeb
We went and heard Music Unlimited and to watch people swing dance. It was a lot of fun. The band sounded great. The ballroom is a beautiful building and Glen Echo is such a treasure to have in the Washington DC. area.
Chris Mayhew
Have taken lots of interesting classes here with the artists who teach. I have tried ceramics and silver working and both were great experiences and definitely worth the cost. Very fun and they make it accessible to people at all levels of creativity and skill. you can make some nice stuff out of it. They also have live music and dancing events sometimes which are always nice.
Nicholas Chase
We enjoyed Glen Echo Park. It is a nice place to go on the weekends. Parking is a bit tricky. You need to go past the park to the National Park lot off Oxford Road. We went to 2 places here. Candy Corner is a children's art room where they give you a couple of things to make for around 30 minutes. Quite nice. They other is a puppet theater. The theater is fun, tickets are required for everyone and you will need to be there on time, as the show is 30 minutes for children. Our daughter enjoyed the experience at both.
Sara Sullivan
it was delightful. after attending a performance at Adventure Theatre we played in the park for a bit
Will Strang
There is dancing of some kind almost every evening in 3 separate dance spaces, with classes on weekdays and large public dances Fri-Sun. The Fri 8:30 pm contradance is an especially easy way to start, with live music, a caller, and hundreds of friendly dancers (beginner lesson @ 7:30). Also, lots of arts & crafts people have studios and galleries there. And it's a good place for kids parties and picnics. On summer weekends, ride the beautiful old carousel.
Adam Martinez
The carousel renovation is beautiful.
Always a relaxing place to be. Lots of shade, so a nice place to be, even on a muggy day.
Steven Fox
I'm only ever here in the evening for the swing dance events that take place in the park. It's a nice place to dance.
Michael Burmeister
Great Carousel for $1.25/ ride. Arts & crafts galleries. Children's theatre. Dance classes on schedule. Took one $13 for adults, $5 for students, six and under for free. Free parking.
Max Lang
Great place to bring the kids on a weekend to ride the excellent carousel, play in the little playground, snack at the coffee shop, or experience all of the art when exhibits are open. Create art to with ceramicists, glass blowers, and other expert teachers. Also, fun for music and dancing when bands come to play.
A. Thomas Grunley
Glen Echo Park is one of the coolest attractions in Montgomery County in my opinion. What a great place for the perfect spring or summer family outing. The carousel is beautiful and historic and the perfect setting for family photos. Adventure Theatre - located within the park - also offers and amazing array of family friendly dramatic entertainment.
Aladdin Lee Grant Rutledge Collar
Haunted mystery Dreamland. I was all alone and still heard whispers all around me. Minus one star because I couldn't understand what they were saying, it sounded like Latin.
Ajay K Gupta, CISSP, MBA
Glen Echo Park is certainly past its prime and fairly isolated from other DC area attractions. This is a place to go to - just one - if you live in the area, just so you can say you've been there.
There is a artist community at Glen Echo and a nice carousel for young kids, and its always interesting to read about the history of any place. But, there's really not a lot to do here. Its a great way to fill a Sunday afternoon - after the football season.
Christina Pikas
Glen Echo Is a lovely place to explore and see performances and art. Unfortunately a lot of the structures are not in top condition. Faded glory. Still - nice place to visit. Park in the big lot near the Clara Barton house
Adam Chornesky
Stroll the park, enjoy the quiet, the trees and flowers. Peaceful.
Heather W
The aquarium is lovely. Small, but perfect for small attention spans. They also have all local wildlife.
Lydia Linker
Glen Echo has been one of my favorite places since childhood. It’s a great place for kids to learn and explore the arts and sciences. Today I love Glen Echo as an adult not only as a natural park but also for its acclaim as an arts community. Come take a class!
Erik Ramsey
Splendid, great historical spot, updated theme park, wonderful for art classes.
Bianca S
This place is a hidden gem within the DMV. It has so many activities for young and old. It has a pottery studios, glass works studio, a ballro, cafe and that's just a few things. It also has a long and rich history and is in a lovely location for a stroll. If you haven't been here my suggestion is to go and experience this place for yourself.
Emma K Alexandra
Quiet park with a chill vibe, lots of neon. Cool art spaces.
Ashlynn Pai
If you are looking for foot or bike access from Glen Echo Park to the C&O canal trail, follow the bike trail north until just before the bridge. There is a dirt path heading towards the canal and taking you under the pedestrian-hating Clara Barton Parkway and to Canal Lock 7 and the C&O trail near Cabin John. It took me an hour to figure this out, after first trying to walk along the scary parkway and getting prickly burrs all over my pants and bush in my face. Glen Echo Park has a nice large pretty clean and safe restroom and a cafe that sells water and beer. There is also a 7-eleven, pharmacy and some other stores across the street.
Arlene Wagner
Great little Park for family especially during the summer. Visit the aquarium all year round. Employees at the aquarium are quite knowledgeable about the native plants and fish in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.
Kristen Bishel Browne
Loved getting to see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at the Glen Echo Spanish Ballroom! Such an amazing, high-energy show with incredible music and tons of swing dancing! I've never seen the ballroom packed with so many people (over 800!), but it was an amazing experience!
Bob Lind
If you ever wanted to try swing dancing show up at 8pm on Saturday and get an hour lesson. Dancing starts at 9 in front of a band. Vintage ballroom, students, senior citizens and everyone in between having a good time. Cherry popping daddies were the headliner last weekend. Check the website for other dances.
Lenny Campello
This national park is a jewel! Small and easily accessible with playground for kids, restaurants, picnic tables and lots of artists' studios, several art galleries and a couple of theatres... loads of free onsite parking.
Austin Graff
Glen Echo Park is a fascinating piece of DC area history. It served as the main amusement park in the DC area in the early 20th century. Just outside of NW DC along the Potomac River, it attracted thousands. Inside the park was a pool called Crystal Pool that had a sandy beach and could house 3,000 people. It was HUGE!
Sadly, the park was segregated. In the 1960s, Howard University students staged sit-ins and finally, the park was desegregated. Sadly, around the same time, the trolly from Georgetown was discontinued. The park closed down a few years later due to poor attendance.
The park is now under the National Park Services and managed by the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture. Because of their creativity and care, there's a lot to do at the park. There's an indoor and outdoor dance area (that hosts frequent dancing), a puppet show area, art studios in yurts, a small aquarium and so much more. Nearby is the Clara Barton (the first president of the Red Cross) historical home.
If you want a chill weekend with family, take them here. The sites are interesting and there's plenty to do for kids. My wife, daughter, and I even had a picnic here and ate as my daughter played on the playground.
Chris Boggs
I want to write a glowing review of the charming and potential-filled Glen Echo Park. But the truth is that there's not enough there to really draw you in. It's very much worth a stop if you're in the area, but (assuming you're anything like me), you probably leave wondering why there's not more to it. The arts and culture programs are certainly a plus, but only occupy a fraction of the buildings and space available. The park needs more to be a place that really makes a case for itself. I hope tight budgets and NIMBYs don't keep it in stasis forever.
Andrew
Kids love this place. It's shut down during covid, but younger kids still playing in the swings. Older folks walking around, can't wait for it to open again.
Steve Smalley
Great Dance venues, cool history, not far from Beltway with plenty of parking.
Ai Johnson
I went there for a swing party about 3 months ago. The place was in the middle of nowhere. W/o my friend who was there before, I don’t think I could have found a place. It was a hot day n dancing make us hotter than someone who can be sitting. The place was so hot n I was surprised that nobody passed away from the heat exhaustion. The live band was nice n I enjoyed dancing there but I think they need to do something with AC as the place was used for dancing. Most people there was soaking wet from the heat.
Dave Cook
Swing dancing on Saturday nights. Always a good time. Chances to meet new people and it's alcohol free. Always live music. 8 to midnight most Saturdays. Check the Glen echo website just to make sure.
Madeline McMaster
One of my favorite places in DC! Contra dancing on Friday nights is too much fun! With swig and blues available too you will find something you love!
mel ason
Worth a drive to check out history. Lots of classes are offered, with course catalogs in racks (online catalog?). We were there later in the day and it was closed. Seems to have many small arts and crafts shops. Amazing Carousel that is still operating. Note - cannot (easily or at all?) walk to the Potomac River from here.
Ashleah Younker
Lots of stuff to get into here, especially with small children. There's always the playground area, or to just walk around and look at nature, but there's also a ton of makers whose items you can check out (pottery, glassblowing, lots of art, etc.) Not to mention there's The Puppet Co and Adventure Theatre if you'd like to see a show.
Scotty Leach
This place used to be an amusement park and you can really feel that vibe walking around. The big ballroom is unheated but if you're going there to dance, the body heat warms the place right up.
Israël Painchaud
Awesome place to have fun with your kids or to dance with your better half even if you are a beginner. They have lots of classes like dance, pottery, etc. I'd recommend to visit the web site to know all about the events happening there.
Natas Sevil
It's nice to finally visit a defunct amusement park for once (especially when it's still standing "my 1st ever on record"). But that might just be the problem, it's just a ghost of its former self. It's not a real amusement park anymore, just a national landmark that only has the famous carousel still running & it's not even year round. It's as hopeless as the amusement park rides & sky train at the Bronx Zoo! No longer an entrance fee but the popcorn booth has been out of business for decades & the theater has been turned into a museum, the castle is now an art gallery & all the other indoor activities have either been converted to gift shops or completely abandoned. The former sound stage outside is just as lifeless as Jazzland's entire ghost town! Even if you did get the privilege to experience a concert or something on it, you will get soaked on rainy days unless you brought an umbrella or a raincoat. That's because the roof of the stage only covers the stage while the bleachers are completely exposed! There is a water fountain that looks good enough but it's no longer functioning.
Grant Izmirlian
Just beautiful...you must see the lights at night. The art decco entrance is breathtaking. Theres a summer concert series in the bumper car pavillion which is also the bomb, I must say!
Tamar Vardi
What a unique gem! History, culture, art, music, dancing, theatre, puppetry, nature, inside the restored facade of an old-timey amusement park. Doesn't disappoint, day or night.
Colten Rohleder
The best old timey park with amazing events year round and fantastic dancing in the Spanish Ballroom, many times a week! Whether you like Tango, Blues, Swing or Contra, Glen Echo has it all and then some!
Lily Hsu
I went on a cold winter day but I had been there as a young child and kinda knew what it was like, I came here for a school project and was able to get all of the information I needed to do this project. But in general it was a fairly good experience. I just liked walking around the park even though there was nobody there. I feel like The NPS should fix the crystal pool and make it indoor for all people to enjoy Year Round (Add a Diving board) ThanksLily
F E Downey
Wonderful space, but few, specific signs to direct you your destination. Took 10 minutes (after speaking to two live persons) to find my gallery opening. Maybe Glen Echo can email persons with walking directions?
Akua Roach
We've visited the Puppet Co., the carousel, and the Adventure Theater. We always have a great visit. I'm looking forward to having a picnic there and enjoying their other offerings!
Jeff
Fantastic historic little gem. We try to go as often as we can for music, food, at shows, etc. Important to keep this place alive.
Walker Kerwin
I used to go there in the 1960s as a 9 yr old. There were rides, bumper cars, bands, dancing. Now there are free dances Friday nights, art n craft classes daily, n the toilet seats are still icy cold!
Roger Underhill
A dancer's paradise, both the Bumper Car Pavilion and the Spanish Ballroom plus a vintage carousel to boot!
Lukas F
Classic, old school, interesting history that is preserved well and explained there. Sort of a mix between hippie art and craft center, DC historical landmark, haunted carnival, and community center. Lots of different activities going on there too.
Tabitha Redmer
What a fun place to visit. We went specifically to see a play, but even if we hadn't, we would have had a wonderful time. Lots to see and do. Kids loved it and so did I.
Sharon Leiser
One of my favorite pkaces on the outskirts of Wasington, DC. They have art classes, a s mb all art gallery, a Merry-go-Round, and plenty of other things. One of my friends takes swing dancing there, and I go mostly for the art gallery and the artist studios that are in yurts. This a perfect place to visit on a nice Saturday for both locaks and tourists.
Hunter Mattey
Went for a swing dance night and had a blast but wow was it hot in there. What's with dances like that and no heat? The world may never know.
Nick Stathis
Amazing location, view, and activities. Lots of playgrounds. Insect/animal aquarium. Carousel that is so much fun. Lots of fun family activities, great picnic location.
Marty Katz
The ultimate throwback: a 1920's amusement park rehabbed into an arts and culture park; the kiddie rides are now adult playhouses. The bumper car pavilion and the Spanish Ballroom host multiple types of dance per week. Keep in mind the Bumper Car Pavilion floor is rough timbers that will tear up dance shoes, wear cowboy boots if ya got 'em. And the lovely, hug Spanish Ballroom with the most beautiful wood floor was a political victim during rehab - it has no heat or AC except in the bathrooms and the smaller "back room" used by blues dance addicts Thursday nights. So the big Saturday night swing dances with live music can get uncomfortable summer and winter.
Mike Caldwell
Little gem of a park to visit in DC area
Mark Halloran
Visited the historic Spanish Ballroom and found it to be a great venue for live music and dancing--the dance floor is enormous, ceilings are high and large fans help keep air moving through the facility.
Rebecca Emerson
My family took a family outing here for mothers day. We saw a puppet show, had a picnic by the playground, rode the carousal and finished the day off by attending a family contra dance. Great day!
Dennis Tolliver
The Contra dance is great at Glen Echo every Friday night. Waltz dances too on the first and third Sundays. Probably the best dance hall in DC area.
Paul W. Hughes
Really enjoyed the Thursday evening concert!
Rick Badwey
Excellent venues, great location and history
ArielandJess WorldPeace
Great place to take a young one during the summer months. The merry-go-round is legendary! Many young families with kids go here to go on the children swings and the such.
Lorna O. Davison
Loved the carousel. Note it closes until Spring 2020 on July 1st. They could shorten a bit to save electricity
People have short attention spans!
Stephanie Blanco Gress
Went again for a birthday party at the aquarium. They never disappoint. So lucky to have this historic and cultural gem nearby.
Chris Desrocher
We caught a wonderful show at the Puppet Co theater of Beauty and the Beast. This is a fantastic place for the whole family to enjoy art and culture.
Vawn Lane
My granddaughter enjoyed the carousel and the aquarium very much. It was a nice way to spend an afternoon and wear out a 2yr old!
Avi Misra
Very cool place with boutique art. They even offer neat classes in glass fusing, silver working, and painting. There are studios to work and sell pieces out of as well.
Katherine Watier Ong
The aquarium is just perfect for the toddler set. My kids loved the touch tank and the craft projects and microscopes!
Michael Bishton
The park looks a bit tired around the edges, but it's a wonderful place to learn and exhibit all kinds of art. Great place for children as well.
Jamie Hamilton
Puppet theater! It's a great space but the front parking area is very confusing. I think a grant to figure out traffic flow and a redesign would do wonders here.
Malika Hussein
I had no idea this place even exists and when I found out about it I was so happy
I’m all about events and adventure and glen echo park has it all
James Werner
Wonderful all year long for all ages
Seth
It is a cool fun place to go. Qhen the carousel is open, it is a great ride, my kids love it and so do I

We arrived after closing time, but there was so much good signage about the history of Clara Barton and the Red Cross that it was still very worthwhile.
Jen Lemos
This is a nice place to visit with the kids. The carousel is really cool, they offer many classes for kids and adults and puppet shows are always fun.
Leah Kniesly

Khara James
Beautiful park with lots of history.
Joy Allison Zucker-Tiemann
A fabulous family experience especially in springtime when the Carousel is open. It's a large carousel, and the rides are just over 5 minutes long for only $1.25. The playground is small but incredibly fun for young children! There is also an aquarium and usually an opportunity to watch artisans in residence at work. It's a fabulous location to take photos whether it be your family or engagement photos! I highly recommend the bridge over the water for photos!!
Quinn B
Glen Echo is great for just wandering around and taking photos. I'm never quite sure if the park is on the decline or the rebound, but I really like that it feels a little raw and unpolished.
Johnny Gilbert
Really neat little park, but the playground equipment is geared mostly toward older children and could use some space dedicated to toddlers and preschoolers.
Betsy York
Fabulous comfortable place away from home. Great food and happy holidays.
