A beautiful setting!!! Sites are the perfect size and beautifully wooded! All steep inclines are paved. They keep the bath house super clean and the sites are very well kept!! Everyone who works here are friendly and awesome!! Camp store reasonably priced. Anniversary trip couldn't have gone any better!! Really relaxing time!! We will definitely be back soon!! Thanks again to everyone at the campground for your hard work!!!

Pros- Very large sites with lots of space in between, lots of trees, clean and quiet. Arcade, basketball, volleyball, and camp store are all very nice.
Cons - Bathrooms are old but clean, the lake is kinda gross, half of the concrete walkway stays wet and covered in alge, the swim beach is not something I would let my kids in.
Overall it's a nice place but starting to show some age, I hope they make some upgrades, this place could be amazing.. FYI the sign at the entrance is way to small and easy to miss.

We loved our first stay at Bear Den! However we missed the turn off the parkway into the campground. Be on the lookout for the road because if you pass it there is really nowhere for 3-4miles to turn around. Private sites with plenty of shade. Many easy pull- through level sites good for big campers. Nice recreation room with skeet ball, basketball and video games. 2 playgrounds that I saw, volleyball and basketball court. Hiking Trails could use a little work, several trees down. Definitely will be back!

Really beautiful campground, clean, well kept, good gift shop. Friendly staff. Appreciated washer/dryer available at each bathhouse. Close to Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls, The Orchard at Altapass. Would love to stay here again!

The campground itself is nice with well kept campsites and amenities. There are different beautiful trails located on the campground. The staff have all been really friendly as well. Great place for older adults and older kids. Not sure I'd recommend certain sites for those with little ones(such as ourselves) due to the limited space and steep drops down the mountainside. The roads to get in and out are pretty steep and narrow as well, especially when pulling a camper.

We camped here for our 40th anniversary. An absolute gem of a place. Set in the beautiful Smokey Mtns. The grounds are very hilly. You are in the mtns. They rent golf carts to help you get around if needed. Walking trails & cart trails within the campground. Do be mindful of yellow jackets. We got stung on the trail to the waterfall. But you are in the great outdoors. The grounds are very well maintained. The bath houses are older but very clean. A very family oriented place with plenty to keep kiddos entertained. But the best thing of all is the friendly, helpful staff and camp hosts. I want to give a big shout out and thank you to John who helped us out with a black tank problem. We enjoyed our week long stay and will definitely be coming back.

Bear Den gives you the opportunity to get away from pretty much everything... if you welcome it. Fresh, cool air, lots of greenery, trails and at night you can hear the crackling of the campfires. Perfect to sit outside, eat and have long conversations with your loved ones or just sit in silence enjoying the fresh mountain air and moonlit night sky. It was nice to see kids running around or on their bikes, enjoying the outdoors. This was our first trip this far up in the mountains and we really enjoyed it.
We went during Easter weekend. They hosted a small egg hunt for the kids. The office gives you a welcome brochure with a map. Their staff are driving around all the time on golf carts, so it's not hard to find one of them. They rent golf carts for about $50, a day. But where we stayed was close to the bathrooms and lake, so we didn't need one.
I recommend bringing board games to pass the time, something to play music on, or read for when you are hanging around. There are different types of camp sites, some for those who use tents, or park their camper, there are regular plain cabins and luxury cabins. We stayed in the cozy cabin site A, which allows pets. It is a regular cabin with just beds and the heat/ac (it doesn't have any covers and pillows). This is a great choice for a group of like 6/8 people/family. One full size bed and two sets of bunk beds. The cabin is in great condition. On the left side of the cabin, outside there was a pipe that comes up from the ground where you get water. The bathrooms and showers are just a couple of steps away in another building. In the same building as the showers, there is a washer and dryer- cash only. The bathrooms were kept clean all the time. They have free wifi and there are hot spots, one was by the washer and dryer. The welcome office has souvenirs, supplies, tools, cookware and food supplies like oj and eggs. There are a couple of small buildings near the office, one has a couple of ping pong tables and picnic tables, but it looked like an old summer camp type for kids, that was no longer in use. They have an arcade game building. A simple playground for kids. A basketball court and volleyball court way further up the mountain. A lake with so many areas for people to sit around it.

We recently stayed a 2nd time at Bear Den. We loved every minute. The bathhouses are clean, easy to get to, and frequently empty. Everyone camping was so friendly. This trip we hiked 2 of the trails on the property and they were awesome! Cascade trail takes you to a beautiful waterfall. The white trail gave a good workout and takes you to fantastic views of Table Rock and surrounding areas. It was so nice to not have to drive to the trailhead. There is more than one Ingles market close by to stock up and the campground store has most anything you would have forgotten. Staying right off of the parkway is also such a treat! Wish we were still there!

Bear Den is a family friendly place. The spaces are large and you feel quite a bit of privacy. Facilities are clean and there are a lot of things to do. The trails are really nice. It is secluded, but close to many attractions. We would not hesitate to stay there again. Prices are very reasonable. Staff was very polite. I highly recommend Bear Den.

Enjoyed our stay here in August of 2022. We are what I’d call ‘amateur glampers’, as we’ve only stayed in a couple handful of places. With that said, my thoughts are below on Bear Den:
The Good:
Huge camper spaces - As shown below, had more than enough space.
Amount of shade - It’s hot in August, so with the ample amount of trees providing shade, certainly knocked the temperature down on some seasonably hot days.
Stuff to do - Although we don’t have kids, those who do should have plenty of things to do in the campground.
The Opportunities:
Roads - They’re not awful, but far from ideal. Looks like when they have problems, they pave only minor sections of the road.
Bugs - We we’re swatting mosquitos all over the place.
Trash - Just seems with their staff (which were very nice and helpful) that they could pick up trash on some frequency.
Distance from Cabins - From the C Loop to the Creekside Cabins was a literal hike. This is minor, as we had guests as staying with in the Cabins.
Everything being equal, it’s a good place to stay. We stayed in C loop, which wasn’t a bad place to stay, but I think B loop may have been better.

Clean, friendly, and safe campground. Stayed in a cozy cabin and it was perfect for a place to lay our heads and not have to set up a tent. Far enough to not have very good cell reception but close enough to run to town if needed. We will definitely be returning.

A great little Campground central to hiking locations and the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway. The pond is sadly overfished, so don't count on catching much. We stayed in the camping cabin, which should be noted that they only lock securely from the inside, and anyone can open the cabin while you're gone. We were a little worried when we were out doing hikes most of the day if our stuff inside wouldn't be messed with. It was a busy weekend when all the sites were nearly booked and kids were running around unsupervised as well as a few dogs off leash just roaming between the cabins. One time in the early morning I walked outside and was startled by a pit bull standing next to my car. Thought it was a bear at first! You don't ever see the Campground managers riding through to check on things, and there's virtually no service to even call in the event of an incident or emergency. Also be sure to bring EVERYTHING you need, especially food because there are 0 places that serve or sell stuff to make a meal within 30 minutes in either direction. Overall a serene place with reasonable prices. I would likely go back.
cassie briggs
Cute little campground. Not much privacy between sites. Game area for kids, multiple playgrounds, and small pond to fish (catch & release). Plenty to do in the local area. Sites book quick so plan ahead
Amy Pavuk
Bear Den is a fantastic campground. If you love to hike, it is perfect as there are several trails that start on property. One leads to a picturesque waterfall and another to a beautiful overlook. This is a large campground, but all sites are well shaded and despite the size, you still feel like you’re in the middle of the woods. The location is also incredibly convenient to downtown Spruce Pine and Burnsville.

We had such a wonderful time at Bear Den! Our campsite was very spacious! We loved fishing and the kids loved swimming in the lake and playing basketball and ping pong! The staff was so friendly and helpful! We would definitely go back!

We had so much fun and it was a cheaply priced way to have family fun. My son loved fishing in their lake as did i. They had great game room, cleanest public restroom n bath house ive ever seen for campground. The country store had plenty of items decently priced and had items one might need if you forget something. 78 dollars for the large tent camp site which was very clean, had electricity and water, a place for a tent, picnic table with safety rails, it was also wheel chair accessable, had washers n dryers for clothes you might soil, trash recepticles, it was peaceful n quiet. My famiky will certainly be going again. Kids lived swimming at the lake w beach area, and fishing....we had a great overall experience as a first time in many years...loved it, you will too! Best part was it was cheap for some great fun in the closest thing to wild camping.....safe, fun, cheap! Thank you bearden campground for a fantastic experience!
Andrea Jeske
We really enjoyed out stay at Bear Den! we rented cabin D-18 (first picture) sleeps 4 and D-19 (2nd picture) sleeps 6. The cabin bed were comfortable (enough) and having the AC was so nice! all campground amenities were within walking distance. The bath house was clean and I never had to wait to use the restroom or shower. The proximity to the hiking trails, banner elk grandfather mountain, and tubing on the toe river was really convenient. We will definitely be coming back again.
david alley
Had a wonderful time! Bear den made check in easy and was led to the site so that made it easy to find. Site was level and had picnic table and fire pit. Bath house was clean and taken care of. Will definitely be back soon.

Such friendly employees and very helpful and accommodating as well. Great affordable place to spend some time in the NC Blue Ridge Mountain’s. Nice bathrooms, washer and dryer, heat and ac in the cabins, arcade, playground, mountain creek fed pond with fish that you can catch.
Gary P
Quiet place with a full canopy of trees and abundant wild plants and animals everywhere! If you like to hike or climb this area is for you!
D Lee
Fantastic campground! It was just my husband and I but this is a great place for families. But it was quiet enough for us. Especially at night, everyone was great about observing quiet hours. Beautiful area off the parkway and many areas and trails for exploring. We did the Blue trail with the waterfall and it was a great hike. We stayed in B18 and loved it. Would have given it 5 stars except the internet is nearly nonexistent. Not sure in that area there is much they can do about that.
Frank Zaloga
Friendly folks and a very nice campground. Large, old, trees with great fall colors! Would definitely recommend this for a stopping point and for a quiet and serene forest experience. Grounds are well kept and the facilities / restrooms are kept clean and in proper order. A+ and thanks!
Klattu
Directly off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Campsites are very well laid out. Washer and dryer at bathhouse. $4 total to both wash and dry. Firewood available. Many cabins. Well stocked fish pond. Good selection of trails too.
Jacob Yates
We had such an awesome stay. This is our second time camping here and both times have been very enjoyable. The bathhouse was clean and nice. The camp store was well stocked with just what was needed. We can’t wait to stay again.
Brian Lolmaugh
Awesome place. Trails, hiking, hiking and golf cart trails and you can short hike to a waterfall. Nearby waterfalls too! Awesome trip!
Rich Willis
We had a great weekend at Bear Den. The campground is right off the Parkway, and is beautiful. The sites are somewhat close together, but well separated by the landscape, so you don't feel close. There are several amenities here right in the campground that are good for families - fishing lake, trails, waterfall, sports court, playgrounds and arcade.
The entry to the campground is a bit rough for a long truck/camper combo - it's a narrow, winding road that is 1-way. We made it though; just take your time.
Our site was sizable for our 38' travel trailer. Plenty of space for the camper and the truck, with a good-sized fire pit and picnic table, plus room for chairs. Our site was a full hookup, and everything worked as expected.
Things to do in the area include the Parkway itself, the towns of Spruce Pine and Little Switzerland, the historic peach orchard nearby, Linville Falls, Linville Caverns, and more.
We will definitely be back soon!
Olivia Vilmstone
Magical place for hiking and mountain biking. It has, I believe, four beautiful trails. Some are a bit rough. One small children’s playground, basketball court, a pond with fish, washer and drier next to the restrooms, small shop with essentials. This is an amazing spot for a family vacation, nature study, fresh air and exploring mountains + forest. Birds, bears, waterfalls and absolutely gorgeous nature!
The staff is very friendly. They escorted us to our camping spot and even helped to back up our RV.
Great spot!
Sharon Conrad
Stayed in a great little pet friendly cabin.
Very secluded and peaceful. Great place to stay off of the Blue Ridge Parkway!!!

We can’t say enough good things about this campground. Our car overheated about 20 minutes from the campground and Scott, one of the campground workers came to our rescue. When we couldn’t get the car to run, AAA took our car and Scott hooked our trailer to his personal vehicle and towed us to our campsite. While our car was being serviced, he checked in on us everyday and made sure we had whatever we needed. He even offered to drive us to the service station to pick up our car when it was fixed. Not only are they wonderful staff but the campground is beautiful with lots of hiking trails with waterfalls. The campground connects to the Pisgah National Forest. The campground is well maintained and the bathhouses are clean. A nice home-base location to tour the area.
Jarrod Conner
Great campground, not a concrete jungle. Staff is the some of the nicest people I have met. Campsites are amazing, private, covered with trees. We have stayed at many campgrounds and this is our favorite. We will be booking again!!
Melissa Evans
An all around great experience!! We stayed in the tent camping area for 3 nights. Peaceful and tranquil, lots of trees surrounding most if the tent sites. Great location. Met some nice!
Petr Kresina
Very nice campground and everything you need, playgrounds and arcade with games for kids, basketball court, pond where you can swim and fish, propane filling station, gift store with some camping supplies, nice clean bathrooms, very friendly staff, hiking trails starting at campground and excellent location right off the Blue Ridge Parkway, there are so many beautiful places around to visit, my favorite was Linville Gorge Wilderness. Looking forward to visit again.
Andy Larson
Overall very impressed. All sites are well shaded and fairly spacious. Definitely better suited for campers 35' and smaller. Staff was very helpful, campground was well maintained, no trash, multiple playgrounds, well stocked camp store, lots of trails, and a small lake for swimming/fishing. Great location central to a number of great places to visit and things to do. I would recommend adding it your list of go-to campgrounds.
Terri DeLuca-MacMahon
Beautiful campground with spacious wooded secluded tent and RV sites. There were beautiful trails to walk and hike without leaving the campground that led to two waterfalls. There is a lake there for fishing and swimming. Restrooms were clean, there was a game room, the staff was friendly and helpful. Highly recommended it!
Ross Adelmann
Fantastic campground. Lots of nature views from your camper, nice sites, good service. Wifi is as advertised--not always fast, but the hotspots were workable enough for my wife to keep up with the online college classes she teaches. Such a beautiful area. We didn't utlize the other fun activites they have, but there is plenty to do with kids in the campground. One of the best campgrounds I've been to in terms of quality and the view you get from your camper.
Sharon Lane
Great family campground. The bathhouse was kept clean as a pin. Staff was courteous and knowledgeable. Beautiful area on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Can't wait to go back and take the grandkids. Highly recommend!
Ben Smith III
We had a great family visit with daughter and grandkids. It is a family campground, not an adults only camp. Kids are noisey, plan accordingly. Access was good and roads were good. If I had a complaint it would be the cars leaving the private area above A21. Too fast, lots of dust. Weigh it all out and it’s better than most.
Sammie Endicott
This campground was awesome. We loved the fact that the road wound through on hills and it wasn't just your stereotypical campground that's on flat ground and you can see everyone. We rented a camper they had on site that was clean, comfortable, and down a trail giving us privacy. There are trails from the campground that lead to waterfalls and are beautiful! Just be warned, if it's rained a lot you will get wet trying to get to them. The camp store was quaint and had some neat souvenirs. Best camping trip ever.
Lisa Compton
We’ve been visiting Bear Den for 20 years throughout different seasons. Wonderful accommodations and campsites and friendly and welcoming staff. This year we stayed after Christmas in a Creekside Cabin and it was decorated for Christmas and really added to the experience.
Stacy VanWassenhove
We stayed in the tent camping section A. The sites were very small and only allow for one tent. We had three families and were glad we booked a site for each family. The sites are very close to each other but are mostly private with trees surrounding each site. I think it's important to note when they say each site has a fire ring they simply mean a few rocks in a circle. We had to doctor this quite a bit to allow for cooking our meals over the fire and fortunately brought our own cooking grate.
The campground itself had a lot to do for the families! Our kids enjoyed swimming and fishing in the lake (the size of a pond), hiking to two waterfalls, and playing on the playgrounds.
The bathrooms were clean and the women's side had 2 hot showers with a dressing area and 3 toilets. The men's side had 3 showers.
Bonus: we were glad for a well stocked store on the campground as our air mattress went flat the first night and we were able to buy another at the store for the second night.
Brannon Wilkie
nice, quiet, clean campground. lots of activities to do around the grounds. friendly staff and well stocked store for all your camping needs. very clean bathhouses that you wont feel uncomfortable spending time in. lots of campsite options some private and secluded others more geared toward large families enjoying time together.
Neal
Literally the perfect campground off the Blue Ridge Pkwy in NC. Miles of hiking trails on site- super clean rest rooms, nice facilities, propane fills, and wonderful staff. We will be back soon.
David Bouldin
We stayed here in March before the season really started. The spots are spaced apart further than many campgrounds you will run across. Some spots have more room and seclusion than others. The campground itself is super secluded and back in the mountains....which we loved! Some spots have breathtaking views. The driveway to get to the campground is a long, winding, hilly gravel drive off of the blue ridge parkway. Very long campers or overloaded trucks will have a little harder time navigating.
The campground itself was very clean. Restrooms were clean. The owner was visible and staff interaction was positive....this means a lot to us....
We will certainly be back.
Timothy Brown
Private campground with a State Park beauty. Campsites are amply wooded giving some privacy. Located directly off of the Blue Ridge Parkway close to many things to do and see. Campground has a fishing lake, very clean functional bathhouses, camp store, game room, hiking trails. Plenty here for the kids. Only knock is the noisy gas powered golf carts available for rent. And the fishing/swimming lake could use some TLC. Our campsite was spacious with full hookups including sewer. That sewer hookup is a real luxury on checkout day.
anita presnell
This is our 6th visit. Wonderful staff, lots of fun for all ages. Campsites are perfect size. We just can't say enough good things about this place. My kids would rather camp here than a koa resort!
Matthew Davis
Wonderful little campground off of blue ridge parkway. The staff are super friendly and the area clean and beautiful. The bathrooms and showers are cleaned daily and it seems that most of the people staying there are respectful of the facilities and the 10pm quiet time. They have some amazing trails for all levels of hikers. The lookout on blackfoot trail is amazing and possible to take children on but it is alot of uphill hiking. In my opinion the cascade trail was one of the most amazing they had with an awesome 50foot waterfall however if you have children i would suggest you start that trail from the A area go to the falls and then hike back the way you came, beyond that the rest of the loop as cool as it is would prove too difficult for the super young crowd. I did find some trash out there...no fault of the campground staff...but strongly suggest for the benefit of everyone on the trails after you....if you bring it in, than take it back out.
.....thank you bear den for a wonderful week of vacation, hope to see you all again next year.
Joe Koontz
Had an amazing couple of days at Bear Den. This place did not lack for things to do, including relax! The staff were super friendly and quick to offer a helping hand. Lots for the kids to do from playing on the many play structures to the arcade to the lake. Awesome hikes on several trails with neat streams and waterfalls to explore. Super clean bath houses and anything you would need in the camp store. We will absolutely look forward to going back!
Danielle Colegrove
We stayed the week of thanksgiving and had a wonderful time! We were in A-08 and had a beautiful view of the pond and surrounding mountains. Our favorite part was definitely all the hiking trails! Would definitely stay again!
George McSwain
We love the location, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in the woods. A good base camp for hiking day trips. The sites are spaced well with trees and shrubbery in-between. We have a full hook up, 50 amp back in that easily accommodates our 40 foot motor home with parking space for our truck. Very clean campground, well maintained. Interior roads are mostly gravel. The only drawback is getting here, which included a lot of turns in small towns, about six miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway (there was a convenient overlook just south of the Highway 221 entrance, and we unhooked the truck there). The road up from the Parkway is gravel and a little rough but only half a mile. Very friendly staff. Now we have to figure out how to get the RV out of the campground! It's tight for big rigs. But we like it and will probably return. Temps in the 70s most of the days, and it's July! Lots of activities for kids, btw.
Jen Yule
This place is awesome! The layout of the whole place is well-thought out! The camping cabin was very nice and clean and the sites are spread out, so you're not too close to your neighbors. The bathhouse also was very nice and clean. The camp store has everything, and the people working there are friendly and helpful! Fishing pond was great fun. Hiking trails were superb! And at night...
IT WAS SOOOO QUIET!!!
Our only complaint is that we couldn't stay longer!
I would definitely go there again and bring some friends!
Cory Bowes
My family and I recently spent 5 days at Bear Den Campground and the experience could not have been anymore rewarding. This is possibly the best managed campground I have ever been too and we camp on a regular basis. The amenities were great, the sites were spacious and the staff was extremely friendly.
Carey Harris
This campground is such a gem!! They provided wonderful customer service! The staff was very friendly and the campground was very clean and tidy. This was our first visit and we stayed for 5 nights in our 34 foot travel trailer. Our site was ample for our needs. The road is a little tight and curvy coming into it off the Parkway so be prepared but there were units there much bigger than us that navigated it. It is a great location to be able to see and do a number of things. Definitely will go back!!
Pablo Perez
Best campsite ever
Great staff very friendly nice and clean bathrooms very quiet camping
Love it
Be back!!
Ethan Everhart
A good campsite. I can't say I was impressed with any of the facilities, but the washrooms were clean (although the one near our site was locked, so it was a ten minute walk Everytime) and the lake was quite nice. There were lots of playgrounds for the younger kids, and plenty of nearby activities. I will say, if you get a chance, go in early April or late March, because it's low season for tourists. We went on spring break, and the camp was almost empty (there was plenty of loud singing on our part, so this was a blessing). Honestly, this is just a good campsite for a casual family camping trip. (It's cheap, too!)
Brandy Kassis
Just left after spending a week with my grandson Aiden. We had the best time. I never felt unsafe of Aiden just doing his thing from fishing, swimming and making lots of new friends. The campground itself is beautiful but very hilly, it's the mountains after all. They rent carts but you must have full coverage insurance to do so. These bathhouses are very clean as well as the sites. We will be making this a yearly thing for us because we liked it so much. Awesome staff from the office to the grounds staff. Just an all around great place!
Harald Brandner
Great Camping in fresh air. Spacious sites for all kinds of campers and mostly under trees. Very hilly so if your 5th wheel is bigger than 30 feet a 4wd is best. There are lots of gasoline golf carts driving around that needs to change. Lots of hiking trails. More noise on weekends and people drive even to the bath houses. Internet poor but not a proplem
John Fletcher
Have been coming here for years. 1st time under new ownership. Glad to see improvements. Parked in front of well point that cycled on and off all day and night
James Grant
Friendly staff, place could definitely use some upgrades. They charge a fee for cleaning the cozy cabins. My first 10 minutes was cleaning cob webbs from the rafters and under the counter. Overall I enjoy this place, this was my 3rd year going there and will definitely be back.
Patrick
The only reason for 4 stars is this really isn't the place for families with younger kids. Because it is in the mountains and has beautiful views of the woods, it makes it difficult with younger kids. Most of the camping spots have drops off the backside that are pretty steep. The maps of the grounds should really include things like that.
The grounds themselves are beautiful and the staff is very nice and helpful. The bathrooms and showers are clean and accessible. The fishing pond and swim area are very peaceful and they have lots of trails that we are going to try out.
Adults and older kids 5 stars. If you have younger kids might not be the place.
Michael Riley
We recently took a trip Bear Den and had the privileged of staying in cabin Bear Hide Away (FC5). We was extremely pleased on how clean and attention to detail the cabin was. The views were amazing from every angle. The hiking trails were alot of fun and very well marked! the staff was very friendly and welcoming! We will be planning many more trips to Bear Den Campground and Creekside Cabins!
Nancy Barnes
Your campground is WONDERFUL!! We stayed over the 4th of July in 2021. The golf cart parade was a lot of fun. Your staff is super helpful and polite. Can’t say enough kind things.
Jim Barrett
Great camping and cabin resort just off the Blueridge Parkway. Cabins are quiet and relaxing. I'd give it 5 stars but WiFi is very slow and gameroom closes way too early at like 5pm. We will be back.
Marty Reed
Nice shaded sites; however, the changes in elevation between the sites & amenities encourage rental of gas powered golf carts which are noisy, spreading noxious fumes & dust which takes away from the serenity of such a remote & peaceful experience. It seems as though management is a bit greedy, considering the rentals of the golf carts, restrictions & even charging for ping pong balls! As for the trails, they are poorly designed creating much erosion. As for the 50' waterfall, what a disappointment!
Noel Bullard
Beautiful campground with the kindest staff!!! Pristene bathhouses, great amentities and private forested sites. We will be back!
Mandi Pringle
We stayed at a cabin that wasn't with Bear Den but on the same campground. The staff their though are all very friendly and helpful. Nice little hike to small waterfall that can sit in just down from the office. Loved it here!
mitchell fogel
Our favorite mountain campground, we come every year and still love it. Not your normal campground, feels like you are in the woods.
doug maddox
Great campground, friendly people, clean bath houses, plenty of campsites, centrally located to Grandfather Mountain and Lynvile falls.Best campground on Blue Ridge Parkway.Eazy acksess.

Absolutely enjoyed our stay! The views are incredible and the staff is always friendly and helpful! We enjoyed the convenience of renting a golf cart and the store stocked full of anything you could ever need and more. The grounds were well maintained and the bathhouses were clean. We hiked cascade falls and it was beautiful. The lake was fun for swimming and fishing (catch and release). My only negative comment would be that construction was taking place adjacent to our campsite that began at 7am each morning and lasted until around 3-5pm. I understand that we visited during the week days, and they have to complete the construction at some time, however we go out into nature for peace and serenity and we enjoy sleeping in while camping, but the campground was great none the less!
Joe Turnage
This is a very nice family campground with lots of things to do. My family had a great stay and it's very shady on many level lots. The staff were very friendly and nice. The golf carts were a must for me because of my health. Book it!
Marc-Andre Carrier
Great family area to camp, lots to do at campsite, clean restrooms. The game room and rec room are super to have to pass time around the grounds.
Nichole Kleinman
We had a great time camping in a cozy cabin. Wish there was a mini fridge but luckily we had friends up in one of the creek side cabins. The cascade trail was an adventure with 6 kids 14-4. The kids really enjoyed the lake it was really peaceful.
Jessica Hall
Bear Den Campground is one of the best campgrounds we’ve been to! My husband and oldest son went in the spring, and loved it so much that we returned as a family in the fall. We stayed in a cabin which was comfortable and scenic with the creek rushing right behind the cabin. We enjoyed sitting on the rocking chairs, listening to the creek, and relaxing. One of the best things about the campground is the fishing pond where everyone can fish for free, no license required! Our boys LOVED this. They also really enjoyed the campground arcade! The campground is located near the top of the mountain so the views on the way there are outstanding! There is even an apple orchard about 10 minutes down the road that was fun! The staff was incredibly welcoming and kind. They take pride in keeping everything clean and well maintained! We will definitely return!
Shan Todd
We've been camping a Bear Den for many years. This campground is well maintained. The staff is friendly and accessible. Not many places offer the "being in the woods" feel with campsites spaced apart that Bear Den does. You are not on top of one another. It's that good!
Ryan Morgan
One of the best campgrounds I have stayed at. Quite, great staff, store had everything we forgot, and beautiful waterfalls accessible from the camps trails. You can tell they take pride and have updated electrical, plumbing, and water to the sites.
Can’t wait to go back.
Melissa Garmon
Beautiful campground! There's many thing to do here to keep the kids busy... Swimming, fishing, hiking, basketball, small game room and playground. We spent three nights tent camping and will definitely go back!
Joe Hullender
Our family has been camping at Bear Den for over 40 years. We've camped in tents and RV's and we've stayed in the small "cabins", the Mountain Villa, and in several of the Creekside Cabins. We have never had a bad experience here. The staff is always friendly and helpful, the campground is well kept, and the price is very reasonable. The new owners have made several improvements to the property as well. Being right off the Blue Ridge Parkway makes several attractions within easy reach if that's what you like. Lazing around the campsite on a sleepy summer evening, listening to the wildlife and enjoying a campfire is a great way to relax. Just remember, you are camping in the woods so don't go in expecting a five star hotel experience. If hiking is your thing, spend a few hours on the Bear Den Waterfall trail. It's a bit strenuous in spots (especially for us older folks), but the views are really nice. The bath houses are typical campground style and though they are a bit old, they are spotlessly maintained. While we've been to several other campgrounds, Bear Den just seems like home. We look forward to many more visits.

Fantastic place to get away. We will definitely come back. Everyone that decides to come visit should go and explore Linville caverns.

One of our top 5 favorites in NC. We are a family of 4 who aggressively camp across the US, and absolutely love Bear Den Family campground. It really does feel like a resort, and they truly seem to care about their property, people and staff.
The sites are clean, well maintained with fresh gravel, easy to stake pads, and space from your neighbors. My kids love their game room, multiple playgrounds, beach area & fishing best. I loved renting a golf cart to shuttle gear.
Check out their 4th of July offerings, we already booked for next year. ;)

We stayed two nights in camper C-03. The camper was fully stocked to meet all of our needs! It even had makeup remover packs in the bathroom! There was a phone number on the booklet we texted to see where to get firewood and they immediately brought it up right to the door and put it on a tab for us! Remarkable customer service! There was an Easter Egg hunt they put on for the kids that was so fun and so thoughtful! We went on the red trail and the blue trail (to a 50 ft waterfall) that were both awesome! Some rough terrain at times but very well kept and well marked trails! The waterfall is gorgeous! This is a remote campground and feels very “in the middle of nowhere “ but is actually only 15 minutes from Walmart so it is a super convenient location! The campground was well maintained and super family friendly! The camper was more than we could have asked for! And the prices were great! We can’t wait to come back!

Just want to say this place is awesome. Well kempt, clean and a lot to do and see, the ladies in the office were super friendly. We will be back. The only negative thing I could say is in the mens shower stalls the walls between the stalls are pretty high up off the ground. If there are kids or shorter people in the shower they will be able to be seen from the neighboring stall, Im 6'3 and it comes up just above my knees.

This is one of the best all around campgrounds we go too. Great bathhouses, wonderful gliders n rockers everywhere. Pool tables, ping-pong, and the camp storm is stocked. It is so conveniently located to many great locations on the Parkway. I give it a 10!!
Conor Budge
Stayed for a long weekend, with my family, in a tent site. Everything was well maintained and the restrooms/showers were cleaned daily. The office had many supplies for a great camping trip. Will be back!
Dave Violette
Stayed here with family and grandkids. Fantastic camp ground! Would highly recommend it. It is close to lots of attractions and hikes along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Heather Baker
We love it here. The camping cabins are the perfect way to "camp" without getting my pillow stepped on 10 times a day by little kids. We like to stay near the playground so the kids can play. They also love the little pond. I like the hikes that are there in the property so we really don't have to get in the car at all when we're there and can have a good time with plenty to do for several days.
Katie Newton
We have an oversized tent and we are sent up in one of the rv spots. Each spot is graveled, access to water, electric, and sewage. Each spot also has a fire pit for wood burning. They have a fishing spot and several trails inside the camping area.
James Fouts
Completely blown away by this little campground. We frequent this area and usually stay in the area National Park locations at Julian Lake or Linville Falls. They were closed for the season when we found the Bear Den Campground. We called prior to the reservation to make sure we could get a nice level space and they gave me several options and said they were all pretty level. We reserved A4 which was positioned right over their little lake. We arrived at night and were hoping for the best. The drive in from the Blue Ridge Parkway is twisty yet maintained well. We pulled our Campervan in and it was perfectly level on the first shot. We walked the grounds a bit the next day with our pups and saw how nice it really was. This will be our go-to campground for this area from now on.
Dan Fields
A well kept camp ground. We visited in July and enjoyed escaping the summer heat.
My kids enjoyed the swimming pond and on rainy days, the arcade.
Everyone enjoyed the evening visits by the fireflies.
The Hatchers
The sites were nice and the staff was very friendly. BUT the showers are old, dank, and the walls are covered in mildew. The toilets and sinks are clean but not the showers. It's as simple as wiping down the walls inside and out. And one of the showerheads leaked terribly.
Edward 't Hart
Great place! Beautiful scenery, friendly staff. Made for a wonderful week camping
Edited: Review upgraded to 5 stars as they went out of their way to assist with a very minor request of mine long after we'd stayed. Would happily go stay there again!

This is the best campground within 300 miles. This is legit camping. It's not just a giant parking lot with a few hundred hookups and some grass. It's actually in the woods. There are trees and some privacy between sites. They have hookups for any size camper and have a lot of extra goodies. A small lake divided in the middle for fishing or swimming. A dock to jump off. There's miles of hiking trails and a few separate playgrounds. The bathhouses are always well maintained. There's a small camp store and an arcade. I can't recommend this place enough. I really wish they offered seasonal rates because I would keep a permanent spot here in a heartbeat.
heather nasuti
We absolutely loved this campground. It's so large and well kept. The staff is beyond amazing. They really are the cherry on top and why I'll definitely come back. The trails are great! We really enjoyed the hike to the waterfall. The tent sites are well spaced and level. We can't wait to stay again!
Brandon Davies
One the nicest campgrounds we have stayed at. Loved how roomy the sites were and how they were wooded, it really gave you the camping experience. You could tell the staff really put in the work to maintain the grounds. They had great hiking trails and a nice golf cart trail around the pond. Will definitely be back
Carl Booker
This place absolutely rocks! I'm already looking forward to our next vacation and bring an additional family and friends along. The staff was really wonderful. Very kind and very friendly. The cabin in which we stayed was awesome. If you like the outdoors and you're really into nature this place is definitely a must visit! I highly recommend it to all my friends and family. This is indeed the spot to go to when you want to get away and enjoy nature and see some spectacularly beautiful scenery. You will not be disappointed!
Chris Petty
Great family campground. Stayed twice; once with a tent and most recently in one of their cozy cabins. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stays. Good hiking, staff is friendly, bathrooms are clean. They have a small lake which is appropriate for the little ones (10 and under) but did not get the opportunity to use due to weather and time.
Jesse Furtick
Our family just spent 5 days here, and it was amazing. We decided to spend some time here before school started back. The staff were very friendly, they even led us to our site and guided us while backing in! Bathhouses were nice and well maintained. They were also very clean. Having full hookup on our site was nice since we usually camp at state parks in SC. Weather was just what we were looking for to escape the heat! Great campground right on the parkway. We look forward to camping here again in the future.
Linds M
LOVE, LOVE this place! Great weekend get away with gorgeous views and cozy cabins. Highly recommend for those that want to wind down and disconnect, but be close to hiking trails and the parkway. Can't wait to come back

We had a wonderful 4 day weekend at Bear Den. People could not be nicer and the location is FANTASTIC if you are a mountain person. A little curvy in and out but well worth it. We have a 32' travel trailer and I saw some very large a class RV's and fifth wheels in the park as well, so be confident it is accessible. I would highly recommend this campground. It is now definitely in our top rotation.
Ashli Jones
We’ve been staying at Bear Den for 5 years, and over the years have seen some amazing improvements and it’s only gotten better. If you prefer, you don’t even have to leave the campground to enjoy the mountains and natural waterfalls, we filled our time bouncing around in our golf cart, feeding the fish in the pond and hiking the trails. There’s nothing out there like it. We slept well, always felt safe and have no complaints to date. The amenities are great, our two year old loved the playground and it was never over crowded. The campground made sure mask guidelines were followed and never felt unsafe about the current pandemic situation. We will be back next year!
Emery Midyette
Our family has stayed at Bear Den many times over the past 15 years. We have tent camped numerous times, stayed in a Creekside cabin, a camping cabin, and on this trip in May 2020 we stayed in Cabin by the Falls. We appreciated the owners working with us when due to a very rainy weather forecast we needed to change our reservations from tent camping to the cabin. Our first impression of the cabin was not favorable because we discovered at its heart it is a double-wide mobile home. However, it has a new kitchen, new windows and flooring, and all new mountain themed furniture. But the best part about this cabin is its proximity being 100 yards from a nice waterfall. The constant sound of the waterfall along with all the mature trees surrounding the property combined to make our stay very relaxing. The cabin has a lot of floor space so we never felt crowded, and the back deck added even more space to move around. There is a fire pit located down the hill and we enjoyed a couple of campfires. The owners have recently made many improvements around the campground and without a doubt we will be returning soon - hoping for better weather next time so we can tent camp, which is our preference. We used a golf cart one damp day and that was a lot of fun. It was only a 5-10 minute hike to the falls near the cabin. We also hiked the moderately difficult blue trail up the mountain to the upper falls, which were absolutely beautiful with all the rain that has fallen over the past 2 weeks. Without a doubt, this is our favorite campground.
Rebecca Connell
Absolutely beautiful!!!!! We camped here for 4 days and I loved it more than I thought I would… these sites are private with great amenities! We will be back
Todd Spencer
An awesome campground for mostly couples but, I'm sure others would beg to differ with my opinion. All in all, it was a great place for my wife and I to just hang out and hit the hiking trails and relax and let go of the every day hustle and bustle. Sometimes, it just pays to just get away and leave all your troubles behind. As far as kid friendly, yes it can be I'm sure of that, with biking on the hiking trails. " Very hilly" for the most part. The staff was very friendly and helpful at any questions or concerns someone may have. My rating is based upon our visit. The thing that impressed us, was the two great waterfalls of 2 different hiking trails we took into while here visiting. There's quite a bit of updating going on as well in Area A of the campground. The staff helped us get into our site as well. Since it's Area C site #26 which this site requires you to blind side backing. Again, great campground for mountain views and great hiking trails with a gameroom and swimming pond very well groomed and taken care of campground.
Donna Fountain
What a great place to get away from it all! Very clean, the staff was so nice and helpful. It is quite a drive up the mountain but if you are up for it you will have a wonderful time! Stocked lake, catch and release, no license required beautifully maintained. Fun for the family. Game room, store, washer /dryers. We had a great time and we were there for 9 nights.

Right on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Friendly Staff & Clean/Well Maintained Campground/RV Sites...
Tom Emanuel
We loved everything about Bear Den! The huge RV spots, the privacy, the GREAT hiking right out of our front door! The grounds are immaculate! We did not use the bathrooms or showers so CANT comment on those. Great place! Highly recommend!!!
Jean Scaraglino
Great campground, huge area. Lots of "personal space" between sites.
Michael Miess
Great family campground off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Have gone there tent camping for many years, and this time we rented one of their small cabins what sleeps 4. Very nice time. Love the trails, especially the one to the 50' waterfall.
Dawn Day
Great campground. Everyone is super friendly and sites are very nice!
Cindy
This place is absolutely the best, the staff were very friendly and accommodating, the many trails make for a great adventure and a nice lake to fish in. We stayed in one of the creek side cabins and it was wonderful, quite peaceful and very clean. Would highly recommend.
Sheila Waldrop
We really enjoyed our stay at Bear Den. We stayed in the Family Bear cabin, which sleeps 4. The cabin was very nice and clean. It also had a hot tub, which we all enjoyed.
Pros: cabin was really cute, plenty of room, cabin was clean (except for stove), bed linens and all towels provided, hot tub, fishing lake, arcade
Cons: stove/oven were not clean, dead mouse under the stove top, dark in cabin - lighting not very good, lamp in bedroom flicked on and off, knobs to adjust jets on hot tub missing
Donella Richard
My family and I booked this a few months back for a group of us. It was supposed to be 9 then ended up 10 but they were very accommodating since our cabin had the capacity it wasn't a big deal. We stayed Monday through Friday morning. Everyone had a blast. The nearby town was great for fishing in the river. I caught 4 trout and was only on the river for about 3 hours.
We also used their recommended guides for river kayaking. The family had a blast kayaking as well. We did some mining locally which is why we actually went was was worth it as well. So all in all everything they talked about on their website was accurate. The cabin we had was a creek side cabin with 2 balcony's and a hot tub.
The only down side I can think of is the community barbeque which was small for our cabin let alone sharing it with others. The community fire was big enough to have fun and keep our distancing as well. Great job Bear Den.
Laura
We camped for three days with friends that were camped across from us. The campsites are clean, good-sized, pretty level. They have great hook ups. We didn’t use the bathhouse so cannot speak to that. Our friends met the owners and said they are super nice. The people that work the campground are helpful and friendly. They have great trails to go on. Close access to Little Switzerland and Spruce Pine. The only minor complaint we had was the Wi-Fi signal was very intermittent which affected playing music. The cell phone signal was also somewhat intermittent. A lot of people would not care about that.
Steve K
We had an awesome time this weekend at Bear Den Campground. We didn’t want to leave so we ended up staying one extra night. If you’re looking for a place up in the mountains then this is it. They are located on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The staff was very friendly. A few of them even stopped by to say Hello. Very clean sites and bathhouses were always clean and smelled great. We didn’t get to do all the site seeing we wanted to, so we will definitely be staying here again when we come back.
S B
Campground was really nice had fishing hole and game room for the kids and you can rent golf carts to ride around the trails some sites are tight and the road to the campground is steep and windy but pretty well maintained road would definitely return it was a great experience
Linda Anderson
We have been camping here for 10 years and always enjoy going back to what we fondly call "our campground." Many wonderful improvements over the years with bathrooms, trails and site upgrades. The one thing I appreciate the most is the staff genuinely want the campers to have a good time! They keep the place orderly while being kind and are always friendly and attentive. We'll be back over and over again!
D Drummer
Loved this beautiful campground. Nice pond that the kids can swim in. Hiking to nice waterfalls on the property. Near a lot of attractions such as Linville falls and little Switzerland. If you are pulling a camper, READ THE FLOWING: do not use any other route other than 221 to the blue ridge parkway. We used 226 and it was a rough incline. Also, the road into/ out of the campground is ONE WAY so respect checkout/ checkin times if you can. If you are not towing and you block a camper, please note, it is YOUR responsibility to back out.
There is 0 cell service (Tmobile) and wifi is almost nonexistent but for over by the main office. This freaked me out one night when I didn't feel well but other than that, it was nice to unplug.
Also, there is a Walmart near If you turn left at the end of bear den road when exiting campground, then turn right like you're going to the museum, about 10 minutes away.
Will come back just will be prepared more for the drive.
Torc B
Great views, great options for the type of camping you are into and great staff.
Will be returning again in the future.
Jamie Abernathy (JLA Photography)
Had a great time, despite the cold and the high wind. Friendly staff, and spacious camp sites. They are pet friendly which is a plus. Also not too far from major hiking points along the Blue Ridge Parkway. We will be back during warmer weather.
Amanda Geaschel
We love our time at Bear Den! The staff is always so kind and professional, and the grounds are kept clean. There’s lots to do at the campground, including some trails that lead to beautiful waterfalls, and it’s in a prime location right off the parkway.
Patrick Litton
Recommend. Love the campsites that have nothing but the woods behind you. Well maintained campsites. Overall great experience and will return. Great trails through the woods or you can just walk the roads and check out all of the areas. Bring your hiking stick and hiking shoes and be ready to climb a few hills.
Melinda Raffensberger
Beautiful place with wooded sites! Very clean campground and friendly staff!
Susan J
Many sites but you wouldn't feel like it with the lay out of the property. Our pull thru site was plenty big for our 40' Class A w/ Toad and we had no issues getting in and out of the property. However, as much as I'd love to return, it's a tight drive into the campground at 13'1" OA with gravel/partial pavement and our objective was to ride the Parkway with motorcycles. Plenty of hiking, shade, quiet and clean campground. Very friendly staff.
Beth Hicks
We visited Bear Den mid-August. We stayed in cabin FC-02. It was clean and we had everything we needed. It was such a cute place. The back porch looked into the woods and the creek. The hot tub felt nice after daily activities. I would definitely recommend Bear Den to others. If I go back to the area I would stay again.
Tom Jones
We are here for about 4 days and it is off season so there aren't many campers here but we have enjoyed the solitude and day trips. Friendly staff.
Joanie Morris
Our weekend stay at Bear Den Family Campground was wonderful. The staff was friendly, courteous and very helpful. This was our first camping experience at Bear Den and will definitely not be our last. I would highly recommend this campground if you plan a visit to the Spruce Pine area. It is a beautiful location off of the Blue Ridge Parkway and we were sure the staff ordered up perfect weather for the entire weekend !!
Amber Parks
This was our daughter’s first time camping (almost 4 yrs old), and it was a great experience! The staff was friendly and helpful. The campsites were private without being secluded. We drove around the campground in our golf cart several times to check out the sites, and honestly didn’t see any that we felt we would be disappointed with. We will absolutely be revisiting!
Joe Goodwin
This is a well kept campground among the trees on the east side of the mountain just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The sites are roomy with a level site for you to strike your campsite or camper on.
Marcus Burns
Have to say that this is probably my new favorite campground. We like to have a little privacy in our space, and these were perfect. The sites are well positioned to give a great feeling of privacy, and the trees are thick and beautiful. The staff was great as well. We will definitely be back.
Dave Huber
Update (July 2022): The renovations to section A were complete. The sites are far enough apart to give you sence of privacy without waisting too much space. The bathrooms are in need of renovations. I like the rustic feel of the bathrooms, but the water pressure is a little lacking when more then one person is showering. The water pressure at the campsites can also be inconsistent during peak times of the day (mornings and evenings.)
Update (July 2021): Section A was being renovated when we were there, but so far the renovations look good. Still no Wifi coverage in section A, but we were told that it was in process of being installed. We love the rustic atmosphere of this campground
July 2020
Over all this is a very nice campground. Warm showers, clean restrooms and friendly staff. The biggest gripe I have is section "A" needs updated, the sites are showing there age, and there is no Wifi coverage. Sections "B", "C", & "D" look like they have been updated and maintained over the years and have great WiFi coverage. There is no cell phone coverage but that is not necessarily a bad thing.
P Krott
Great little cabin! Perfect location to access the trails and mountains at Burnsville. Super friendly staff! The nicest people you'll meet! I will be back. Highly recommended.
Gabriel Molina
Important! Make sure you have four wheel drive if bringing in a camper. The property is mostly gravel and the condition of the gravel when we visited was poor. Also, depending on the weather the Blue Ridge Parkway can have heavy fog. Just be prepared.
The staff was very nice here and welcoming. The facilities here are OK. The arcade room was disappointing as most of the games were out of order. The shop up front was stocked well. We loved the feel of this campground as it is very remote and private. We were in spot C-30 which is a very long pull through. A Walmart is located 10-15 minutes away which is convenient.
Carey Webster
Beautiful campground! Room for our RV & car and not much else. Our site had WiFi, which was a little slow, and the park asked that we not use it for streaming movies. Fortunately we had DVD's. AT&T phone signal was ok some of the time. Clean bath house with hot water, though not all the stalls had toilet paper until Friday. Nice private lake stocked with fish - no license required. Dumpsters were convenient, loved the little store with essentials. It was nice to have ice and firewood onsite. Gorgeous hiking trails!
Chitra Vijayakumar
My family and friends - about 25 of us were at the Bear- den Campgrounds over this past weekend and we all had a great experience. The campsites are clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
The bathhouses are clean and well maintanied and the hot water in shower felt great after 9 mile hike.
We used the trailer as well as tents and we had superior experience in both. I will highly recommend this camp ground to everyone. For my family, this is our first camping trip ever and we had a memorable time.
Olivia T
The amenities at this campground made my first camping experience so pleasant! I didn't like being so close to our neighbors though. I loved having our own water faucet and bathrooms with showers close to our campsite. The check in area sold anything you might have left at home. We were so busy hiking and chasing sunsets we can't even comment on the lake or trails around the campsite. We'd highly recommend camping here.
Debi Gardner
This is a great place to camp. We have a 40ft Montana and went up at Father's Day. This was our first trip here. What a beautiful piece of heaven. Plenty of shade you are right of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The temperature for Father's Day weekend was in the 70's and lows were in high 40's I couldn't believe it. We had a great campfire. This place is so peaceful and Mark the owner and staff were awesome and friendly. We do want to give a shout out to one of the staff member Skip he was so professional and very helpful as were the others. If you haven't been here you have to go.
Thank you guys for a great time away.
Valerie Wilson
Outstanding camping experience. Beautiful quiet setting close to hiking trails, campground trails alone were amazing. Will definitely be back. We pull a 35 foot trailer and pull through sites were easy to access, level, and large.
Jamie Brown
This was a very nice campground. The staff couldn't have been nicer, and the facilities were great. The campsites are a bit close together, but there are a lot of trees which add to the feeling of privacy. The bath houses are very nice and super clean. There's plenty to do both at the campground and in the surrounding area. We brought my daughter and her friends for her 13th birthday and they had a blast!
Dewayne Chapman
Very family friendly and if your coming in late or very late (me at midnight) they are very accommodating. They have lots of recreational options, such as: a lake, basketball, volleyball, a little arcade area, golf cart rentals, and hiking trails right there in the camp ground. However, if you're looking for something more "woodsy" and you don't like you're campsites to close to your neighbor maybe not the place for you. Otherwise it's a pretty great place and it's right off the parkway.
Luke
Awesome get away!!! Campground is very well maintained and spectacular views of the mountain with awesome hiking trails, fishing, and swimming. The best thing about this place is the staff. Very hospitable and willing to help with anything you may need. My wife dropped her cell phone in the fishing lake and they came and helped me with a net find it and even gave us a bag with rice to put it in. Definitely our favorite campground yet!!!
David Hawkins
I love this campground. Unbelievable customer service, some of the most helpful people you will ever meet. The campground is neat and clean, the showers are clean as you want to see and they keep them clean. we used washers and dryers this time and they were brand new. this first week in November was our third trip up there this summer and they have made improvements every time we have been there. the new owners are really working hard to make it one of the best campgrounds in the Smoky mountains. there's so many things about this place that I like but one of my favorites you're not going to look out the back of your camper and see somebody's housing project you're not going to lay there at night and listen to a super highway. The only way in and out of here is on the blue ridge parkway and it is not as expensive as it could be.
Thank you Mark and your staff of fine people will see you next spring
Michael Hromada
It is a pleasure to stray at these cabins, I love the scenery and the accommodation. Just be warned that cellular connection is quite poor out that way, (at least for TMobile) but the highlights of this beautiful place is the nature, not the modern achievements of man(besides the jacuzzi). So sit back, forget about your phone and just take a deep breath of the mountain air. Enjoy the night sky with all the stars up above, and welcome to Bear Den.
garrett reding
Very nice campground. Hiking trails and waterfall are fantastic. Kids loved swim beach and playgrounds. Sites are a little narrow for slide outs but perfectly level and well groomed. Stayed in D section. Will camp here again.
Sara Cook
Stayed here over Memorial Day weekend 2017 and LOVED it. Great staff and new owners who are redoing everything...including bathrooms!! Awesome hiking, right on Blue Ridge Parkway, it's gorgeous. Went with a group and we all were in tents. Sites have great drainage and there was a washer and dryer for if things got to close to the side of the tent when it rained. The store at the front of the campground has everything you might forget. You are in the mountains but still only about 10 min away from a Walmart. Stay here, it's lovely.
Brooke Moody
We love Bear Den! The mountains are beautiful and it is a great location for camping. The staff were really personable and helpful at all times. The campsites are secluded and private with RV hookups and good electricity. The bath houses are well-maintained and not far from any site. The campground itself has some beautiful views and scenic spots, but the surrounding areas are also gorgeous. You will be able to travel up and down the Blue Ridge Parkway and see the beautiful Appalachian Mountains all around. I highly recommend this campground! In fact, I got engaged there just a few years ago on the waterfall hike!
Sher Leibensperger
This the most awesome serene place to set up your rv. Beautiful scenery. Breath taking drive here, right on Blue Ridge Parkway. Lots of overlooks to see the majestic mountain after mountain after mountain. Lots of amenities here. Restroom / showers clean and private. Staff.... I don’t even know where to begin. They all are so respectful make you feel right at home. Very helpful. Nice store they have for any last minute things you may have forgotten. Golf carts rentals are a plus at this site. With lots to do for kids and adults you can’t go wrong here. Fishing pond one side swimming with a beach on other side. They keep this entire campground spotless and I do mean spotless.
Dermot Peacock
The campground is secluded just off the Blue Ridge Parkway it's a very scenic area with plenty to do for adults and children . The access road it partially paved and very bumpy but going slowly will not cause any problems . We made a reservation for a site in their A section and because we are only an hour away we decided to drive up there to see what the roads and the campground were like. When we got there I went into the office and asked the woman behind the desk if we could look around . I told her we had made a reservation for a site in the A section and we would like to see it . She said of course but there was construction going on in that section and there would be a lot of people working there. I asked if the site would be ready in two weeks and she said it would . We had brought a ford mustang for the drive and it was a good choice the road into the section was very tight and every site we saw was incomplete and very close together. The site we had booked was nowhere near ready and the turn around was way to small for a pick up and a 31 foot trailer to get turned around in. When we returned to the office I asked again if the site would be ready in 2 weeks and they said yes it would no problem. When we got home there was an email waiting from the campground telling me the site would not be ready and they had moved us to another location with the same specs. The mistake by the people in the office was ok construction never goes the way its supposed to but what we dealt with when we did get to our new site was a little hard to deal with . The sites in the older parts of the campground are again a little tight and. Very close together but the place was nowhere near full so it was ok . Its also family campground so there were lots of kids nearby making lots of noise during the day and that was allright. We divided to stay a few more days and asked at the office and the very nice woman said that our site was booked for the days we needed and offered a few other choices so we picked one and moved our trailer the next day. Here is were our problem is . They do not enforce the quite time in this park and there is no limit on guests on the sites either . Our new site was also very near the dumpsters and the constant traffic of gas powered golf carts going up and down the hills is annoying. Its a shame the place is really beautiful it feels like a national park. We will go back again but it will be in the off season
Brian B
Bear Den is a great family campground with beautiful views of the Appalachian mountains with a good variety of hiking trails. I had a great time camping here for a week! Lot's of activities nearby as well. The only negatives are the cabin sites are were too close together in my opinion, some of the roads are pretty rough, and some of there items are a bit pricey at the camp store. Overall I would definitely recommend 👍
Rhonda B
Our favorite place to camp. We usually stay a week every year and a weekend or two. Peaceful and quiet surrounded by woods. Perfect for us!

BEST VACATION EVER, COZY AS HECK AND BEAUTIFUL TRAILS WOW
David Stutts
Great campground! The campground does not have a lot of extras, there is no pool, only small playgrounds but you can swim in the lake and it is very peaceful and quiet. Beautiful sites, ours was level and easy to park. Walk to store is strenuous with steep roads but we really didn't need to go. Fishing in lake is available. We will visit again.
Lauren Wortman
Bear Den really is the base camp for all your mountain adventures, just as it claims to be. My kids are 8 and 2. They loved the playground. We let our 8-year-old take the walkie talkies and roam as he pleased. We also enjoyed the fishing pond and arcade. During the day we planned a hike nearby. Overall, this is an excellent place! We would definitely go again.

Came down for a weekend and had a very enjoyable time. Getting to the campground was a little nerve-racking but once you arrive it makes it worth it. The campground seemed to be very well maintained and everything was clean. The campground is the the woods with lots of trees, which makes for a very beautiful campground. It didn't seem like everyone was on top of each other either which is nice.
George Brake
Nice, woodsy campground. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The area is beautiful. There is a lot of topography at this campground; your kids may find riding bikes is a lot of work :) The bathhouses are older, both sinks clogged in the men's room by our site and the water was barely hot enough to shower, but man were they clean. The swimming hole was very nice and there are trails all around the campground. We really enjoyed ourselves and will return. I would definitely recommend to trailer and tent campers. I would be hesitant to drive an RV in and out of there daily though to visit attractions; once in and once out is fine but that entrance road is curvy and steep.

Bear Den is a beautiful campground with many amenities for anyone. The new owners have upgraded many of the campsites as well as the bath houses. We stayed in a cabin where we could hear the nearby creek which was a very peaceful experience. Bear Den is one of the nicest campgrounds we've ever been to.
Casey Near
My family just stayed here for the first time. We had a great time. The campground is clean, and there are plenty of sites for tents or RV's. The showers weren't anything special, but they functioned, and the water was the hottest I've ever had at a campground. The new owners are in the process of making a lot of changes; to include updated bathrooms. They are also really friendly. Between the hikes, the play areas, fishing, swimming, and movies on the projector by the park you'll never run out of things to do. We are looking forward to our next stay!

We love Bear Den! This was our second time here in 2 months. The campground is immaculate, and the bath house was well taken care of too. The only hiccup was a tree falling on and slightly damaging one of our tents the first night but the campground staff was out in no time the next morning cutting it up. I highly recommend Bear Den, whether you choose to camp or stay in a cabin, you won’t be disappointed!

Where to begin...
1. We arrived late due to weather and traffic issues. They had our cabin ready up to having lights and ac going. We walked in to an inviting and homey feel for sure.
2. The forest view cabin is amazing. It's the perfect size for two and somehow feels intimate on the inside yet feels like you have 10 acres to yourself. I've never felt like I had private land on a campground before. How is this the cheapest furnished cabin?!?! It's a steal.
3. The store might be more expensive than Walmart, but they don't jack up prices as far as other camp stores I've been to... intergrety point 1.
4. There was an exterior issue in the proximity of our cabin. We were approached, apologized to, and given a credit toward our stay. Let me really stress this... we did not complain, they did not wait for us to bring up the issue...THEY drove to our cabin, explained what was happening, and VOLUNTARILY gave us a credit. Who does that?!?!? Integry points 2-78.
5. This may seem like a small thing, but was more important than the credit to me... when booking, they ask on their site the purpose of your trip. I put that it was mine and my wife's honeymoon. After adding her email, she received all the confirmations and such as well. What made our trip was when we checked out, they wished us a happy honeymoon and (very genuinely) complimented my wife on the ring. They didn't need to do this. But did. Good people.
A point of caution from a fat dude from Chicago: ask the people at the store about the trails! We decided on a whim to tackle to blue trail toward a waterfall without even a water bottle... this was a mistake. Although we made it through, it was far more advanced than we would have assumed. Do yourself a favor and ask questions. This was our fault.
All in all, we hope to come back. It's a 12ish hour trek for us, but we couldn't imagine a better place for a honeymoon. Willing, some anniversaries will be spent in that same cabin. We loved it beyond words.

Whole family had a great time wonderful people quit nice cabin lots to do and great relaxing

This a great Campground to make a home base to explore the Blue Ridge Parkway. A helpful and friendly staff. A leisurely stay at the campground with fishing, swimming, and hiking. Great camp sites for tents to large RVs. Most sites are Full hookups (electric, water, sewer, fire ring, & tables).
NIkki Maglodi
Nice campground! Our experience in a nutshell :)
Pros-
⦁The spaces are not too close
⦁The beach/fishing hole/waterfall is really nice and relaxing
⦁They came around to let us know there was a storm coming
⦁The hiking is great
⦁Very peaceful
Cons-
⦁The garbage is really far away from your campsite (like a mile) and they want you to take it every day.
⦁I was surprised they were not on top of cleaning the playground during the Covid epidemic (we were across from it and never saw anyone clean it)
Overall I give it 8 of 10 :)
Michelle Ellis
It was our first visit and because we live 2 hours away and needed 3 tent sites close together, we called ahead to make reservations. The staff was very helpful in accommodating our needs. Bathhouse was clean. Hiking trails were well marked. Tent sites were well maintained and reasonably level. We had a great time and hope to visit again!

I have been going to Bear Den on and off since I was a kid and it has a special place in my heart. There's something special about being right on the Blue Ridge parkway, in the woods, in a campground that's is family friendly! This was the first year that my husband and I took our young kids and the legacy will now live on. To quote my 4 year old " let's come back to Bear Den everyday!"
First of all, we had the chance to meet the new owner and staff. Everyone was friendly and incredibly accommodating and helpful. The campground is really looking good with all of the improvements the new owner is making. Compared to when I came when I was a kid, the bathrooms look great! We stayed during the week and you could see the staff making improvements here and there as we were camping. I can't wait to see what it will look like next year when we come.
Most campsites are nestled in the woods. Some more than others. The swimming area is exactly how it was when I grew up, although the new staff was busy improving the fishing docks while we were there 😊. There is a beach area with sand that is great for the kids and also a wonderful dock that my kids loved jumping off of and diving into just the way I did when I was a kid. The arcade was a draw for my kids as well as the ping-pong tables in the covered barn. There are two playgrounds that my kids enjoyed playing on as well. We took a trip to Linville Falls one day, The Emerald Village mine another, and plan to take the kids to other attractions each year we come back. This campground is such a great place to be to access area attractions!
If your family loves camping and you love being surrounded by nature, then you can't go wrong staying at Bear Den!
Lisa Kelley
Beautiful restful place. Owners are friendly and do everything possible to make us comfortable. Waterfalls are gorgeous. Have pool tables basketball and other fun things.walking trails were nice. Beds are comfortable and cabin was clean. Will definitely come here again!

We love Bear Den Campground! We spent several weeks there recently, and it's now our favorite RV campground. Bear Den has loads of shady campsites near the woods, and the sites have plenty of space between them. Most of the RV sites have full hookups which we found to be very convenient. We also love the fact that they have over 10 miles of hiking trails on their property, including one trail that goes to a beautiful waterfall. The campground is in a great location on the Blue Ridge Parkway, about 10 miles south of Linville Falls and close to the Pisgah National Forest where it's easy to find great hiking. We are already making plans to go back. Love it!
Erica Murphy
Bear Den is such a fun campground. The RV sites are more than adequate. The bath houses are new, and the playground and other amenities are in great shape.
Not only were the facilities fantastic, so was the staff. They were courteous and helpful, providing assistance for every request, ensuring our trip was perfect.
Michael Queen
Nice campground. Can be a little rough getting in, but as long as you take your time should do fine. Nice little pond and all kinds of trails.
Stay Safe and Remember Keep That Nose Covered - We are not out of this yet.
Chuck Peters
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Bear Den. The overall park is wonderful, very family friendly. The bathrooms were some of the cleanest I have ever seen at a campground. Mark, the owner and his staff are very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be returning to Bear Den.
Cheri Snead
Our first visit to Bear Den will not be our last. Most reviews have already mentioned the astounding beauty in and around Bear Den so lets talk facilities. Bath houses very well maintained and up to date. Camp sites were plenty spacious and level in both the tent and rv areas. The four hiking trails were well marked. The swimming/fishing lake and pier were very well kept. The commons area and recreation buildings fit right in to the mountain scene and invited you to sit a spell and just relax. The entire campground blends so well into the natural surroundings. The staff could not have been more helpful and courteous. Eric was really helpful at check in. My only suggestion, a dish washing sink attached to the bathhouse in the tent area would be a great convenience. Wi-Fi only available near the office and yet my kids survived the ordeal. Come sit a spell
shannon tolbert
Had a very nice stay here. We were tent camping. The site was nice and shady with plenty of trees, it was flat, and had power and water available. It was very quiet. The pond was nice, and the playground was enough to keep the kids occupied. Again, I really enjoyed my stay here. I am already planning a return trip!
David Fleming
A great family park. Good staff, decent store and overall the park is in great shape. Roads are a bit twisty and steep (it is in the mountains). Good clear water from the faucet at my site. Was a bit noisy during the day but got quiet right at ten PM. Had a dog bark a couple times but slept well. A good place to stay while exploring Spruce Pine, Mt. Mitchell and Linville
CrazyDog Lady
This campground is hands-down the absolute best on all of the blue ridge parkway in North Carolina. They have miles of hiking trails. An arcade for the kids to enjoy. a fishing pond with a waterfall that leads into it. A convenience store on site to pick up items you left at home. Cooking over a multiple clean bath houses with warm running water and showers. My favorite part is that is extremely dog friendly!
Maureen Griffin
Beautiful campground right off the Blue Ridge Parkway! Clean, well-maintained, with a terrific, caring staff. I highly recommend it.
Sheila Goodman
Clean, well maintained with friendly staff, multiple activities on site and close by.
Connie Hughes
Nicely kept park, great spaces between campsites. Quiet park. Most campsites quiet level.
Reggie Shropshire
Great campground, nicely laid out, plenty of activities for the family. Really enjoyed our time there. It is a great 'base camp' for many of the awesome things to see & do in the area. Staff was nice, welcoming and professional. Bathrooms were clean.
Joe Shoemaker
We have been to Bear Den Campground a few times now and it is always an enjoyable and relaxing stay. It is a great place for a family outing whether just a weekend or longer.. We will definitely be going back in the future.
Rashmi Patil
We initially booked another campground but because of some last moment problem we called this campground at a lady named Cathy went out of the way and alloted us a campsite in this campground. A very good campsite with water and electric hookups. Clean, well maintained, spacious sites. Bathrooms are pretty clean. Would definitely go back.
Julie Surles Cole
Campsites are well maintained and spacious. Lots of activities on site - lake swimming, fishing, hiking, and our kids loved the playground. We were very happy with our experience and will definitely be back!
Samantha Martin
The cabin was spotless! Comfy mattress with sealed mattress cover, clean everything, curtains and screens on windows. Just incredibly clean with wonderful challenging hikes leaving from camp.
Stacey Utt
One of our favorite campgrounds! It is such a beautiful drive to get there. The sites are private, shady, and cool. It's so quiet and peaceful, and the staff is super friendly. Swimming and fishing hole is absolutley adorable.
Shelly Coyne
Would have given 5 stars, except most of the rv sites aren't all that level. Otherwise, this place is great! So quiet and peaceful. The family running it are fantastic and quite accommodating. It's on the Blue Ridge, so you don't have to exit in order to camp. Because of it's location, steepnessand turns are part of the package. There are too many amenities to mention but they include everything from a variety of hiking trails to golf cart rentals. It's on our list of places to visit again.
Hannah
We camped here for 4 days and we loved every second of it. The camp sites were very spacious and clean and the bathrooms had nice hot water. Also, they have very wonderful, friendly staff that were very helpful. We will definitely be coming back.
Jamie Hodnett
Our stay was only 2 nights but it was very pleasant. We arrived late, around 11pm but there was staff on hand to help get us back on track and our motorhome in our campsite. The site was clean and level and easy in and out. We hope to visit again
Christina Sloat
My family of four + pup spent 3 nights at bear den campground. We got cozy cabin D17. The campground is well kept and staff is super friendly. It was a busy holiday weekend so if you’re wanting to be away from people this is not exactly the place during busy dates but for our family was perfect. We enjoyed the amenities and always felt safe. We did fishing an a couple of hikes. One night they showed a movie and had a bbq truck - it was awesome!
We also went to Linville Falls one day and had a picnic at Linville River which ended up being super fun; bring your bathing suits.
We had a great time at Bear Den and will definitely be back soon!
Michelle Broome
Great campground with all the things for a great weekend of tent camping. Our neighbors played loud music all day and up into the night which was a small nuisance, and the gravel on the sites were large and sharp. Painful on bare feet inside tent. Otherwise had a great time and would come back again.
Kat Allen
Second trip to Bear Den and it was even better than before. Beautiful and clean cabins, awesome game room, trails were amazing, etc. Deb in the front office is beyond amazing. So incredibly helpful and friendly. We will definitely be making this a yearly event. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Nancy Jean Flannery
We had a wonderful time here. The staff was so helpful and friendly, we had problems with our camper, and they were quick to help us. The sites were clean and so were the bathrooms. It’s in the perfect location to visit all the main NC mountain attractions. We will definitely go back again!
Kevin Tyler
One of the most beautiful mountain campgrounds I've ever stayed at. The people that run this place are extremely nice and unbelievably accommodating. I would have given them 5 stars if the campground had cable and if they had a wider driveway leading to their campground off the Blue Ridge Parkway, even though I know they are limited as to what they can do about it. All I know is that if I had met another RV on the driveway into their campground there is no way we could have passed each other on the road.
henry childress
Been going here for years the new owners have added new rv spots and upgraded the park highly recommend
Andrew Bryan
Really great campground especially for being so large. All the spaces are wooded and feel like you have nice space to yourself tucked in the trees. Good bathrooms and lots to do on the property
Kimberly Jennings
We love this beautiful campground! The staff is fabulous and the grounds are beautiful! We will continue to come for our bi-annual stay!
Ricardo Cobos
We stayed in the Mountain View Villa which is a one bedroom unit with a loft which is perfect for children. I HATE camping but this was perfect for me because it's a great alternative to camping while still being able to enjoy staying at this beautiful campground. The campgrounds are under new management and it shows. The bath houses were very clean and very well appointed. We will be returning. BTW - I rarely offer a five star for anything.
michael cox
This place was one the most enjoyable private campgrounds I have ever visited. Super nice and helpful staff, well stocked camp store, and lots of activities and things to do. Both kids and grown-ups had a great time. Will definitely be back.
kasandra garner
Just spent a relaxing Easter weekend tent camping at Bear Den. This campground has it all, from upscale campsite for those who like "luxury" camping to barebones campsites that are basically a tent platform and a fire ring. We went with the latter, since this was the only campground in the area open this early in the season. It was a short walk to the bathrooms, but we were secluded enough for a real "camping" experience. My 7 and 9 year old enjoyed fishing in the lake, playing at the playground, an Easter egg hunt, and meeting other kids in the campsite next to ours. I would give it 5 stars, but I could see how it could be noisy during high season since the campsites are very close together and the bathrooms closest to us were out of order. But overall it was a good camping experience and I am just so grateful they were open so early in the season so that we could camp close to Linville Falls for Easter weekend.
Seth Fargher
Brought a group here and were able to get two sites side by side. Incredible facility, friendly staff and everything you need for a great camping experience, just a mile off the parkway. A lot of area campgrounds have silly "fee schedules" like only allowing 2 people per site and charging per person for extra people. There was none of that. Our group had an incredible time and will definitely be back!
Brittany Owen
I first went here when I was around 9 years old, it was such an experience that I remembered it for years to come. A few years ago my boyfriend (now husband) and were looking to go on vacation. We wanted something different and close to nature. I had remembered Bear Den and how much fun it was from 12 years ago. We decided to go there. We were not let down, Bear Den is nested beautifully into the moutians and is truly a beautiful family camping spot. They have everything, tent sites, pull through camper sites, camper rental, bare cabin rental, and fully refurbished cabin rental. With a beautiful pond for swimming and fishing, along with a play ground, arcade, and corner store it's out little excape. Prices are very reasonable as well. Staff is friendly we always feel at home here. We have been going there every year since then and just recently finised up our honeymoon there. We just love it.
Kayla Clontz
My family stayed 3 nights here in our camper. Check-in was easy, staff was helpful and friendly, and we loved our campsite (B-10). Looking forward to many more stays here!
Justin Darling
Our family of 6 (children ages 16-6) camped at Bear Den Campground from September 12, 2013 - September 19, 2013. The campground is very well maintained, the staff is friendly and helpful. The location is beautiful and rugged. I do not recommend staying at Bear Den for inexperienced trailer campers. The entrance to the campground is rugged, steep and curvy, but is driveable if you take it slowly and have a good tow vehicle and anti-sway device. We camped in our 25' JayFeather Hybrid and had very few problems getting in and out of our site.
Our site (C3) was very nice, private and well maintained. We appreciated the trails and the playground area for our smaller children. We would highly recommend Bear Den Campground.
# NOTE- DO NOT rely on Google Maps to get you there, the directions are completely wrong and will take you on an inappropriate route. #
Barbara Staton
We definitely will be back. We had a blast this weekend. Quite friendly people. It's nice just being able to relax.
Dora Chappell
Have stayed here many times (tent camping, camping cabins and fully furnished cabins) and have always had a great time each trip. Campground has many amenities and is our favorite campground.
Deborah Besmen
Lovely campground. Quiet and you are really able to enjoy nature. Nice shady sites. If you plan to visit surrounding towns it is a bit of a drive.
Steve Gilmartin Jr
The campground was awesome. I can imagine it is sporty to get up the roads in the wet snowy conditions. The staff was great, the site was great, the facilities were clean. What else could you ask for in a campground. We will be back for sure.
Eric Worden
Friendly staff. Lots to do at the camp and you are right on the blue ridge parkway. Great location.
Angie Moose
Nice clean campsites and bathhouses. Plenty to do.
Matt McMinn
We stayed on a family trip and the staff is super friendly. They had an experience to speak to for every customer that came through the office to make them feel at home. They had great suggestions for off site visits. The sites are spacious and has trees all around the sites seperating you from your neighbor. I have 4g XLTE at the site and able to run Netflix and anything else I needed. It is a bit of a haul up the mountains in a 1500 truck, but we made it! Will def include this place on our rotation for family camp vacations!
Teresa McDonald
My boyfriend and I just stayed at the Bear Den campground this past weekend. We had a wonderful time. We were originally going to go tent camping but once we saw the weather report calling for rain we decided to rent one of their Camping Cabins. Which were absolutly perfect for what we were wanting, a little R & R, and quailty time together. Upon arrival, our first cabin did not have power, however, the awesome staff had no trouble, getting us hooked up with another cabin, in a nice quiet spot. Which was greatly appriecaited. Everything was very well maintained, the grounds were lovely. The bathrooms/showers were what was expected for a campground. The only advice I would give is, if you are going to hike up to the waterfalls, be advised that this is a serious hike, not a stroll in the woods. I would not recommend bringing small children along. But if you are into that kind of thing (which we are) it is a good hike to a pretty location. We will be back to visit again.
Roger Broadway
Hard to find on the parkway. (Wasn't on our map from the visitor center). Thank goodness we asked at the hotel in Little Switzerland. They told us about the little post with "Bear Den" on it about 8 miles up the road. It was dark and getting late, and we turned down the dirt/gravel road thinking the whole time, no way is there a campground deep in the woods off the parkway...Thankfully we finally saw the "Bear Den campground" after driving down a one lane winding road several hundred yards. After a few hundred more yards of curves and hills we got up to the check-in kiosk (office was closed). We had no idea where to go from there looking at the park map. Fortunately a vehicle drove up behind us and a nice young lady approached us (Unfortunately I forgot her name) and said she worked there and was off duty. She just came back from in town. She told us about a nice sight right across from bathhouse that was vacant. We enjoyed our one night stay and hot showers. We washed a load of clothes the next morning in the washer and dryer that were at the bath house. Things sure look less scary in the daylight. 😆 LOL. We went in the office to check out and pay for the one night stay. We had no idea what it cost when we arrived. The price was very fair and "Eric" was super nice and very helpful. He recommended for us to stop at Linvile Falls up the parkway a bit. Boy was he right. Beautiful! Oh! The only reason for 4 stars...We wouldn't have found the campground if it hadn't been for the lady at hotel in Little Switzerland.
Amanda Rhoads
We love Bear Den!! We camp here at least once a year. Every time we visit they have added something new and improved. It's so quiet, peaceful, and beautiful!! And the hiking around the trails is a must do!
Carlos Sullivan
Such an amazing cabin and very nice views. Me and my girlfriend enjoyed our stay and surely plan to be back to bring the kids for our next stay.
Becky A.
My family and I stayed at Bear Den for Memorial Day weekend and loved it. Having only been camping one other time, my experience between the two were like night and day. Bear Den was totally family friendly. I have a 7 & 13 year old, so finding something that appeals to both age groups can be a chore sometimes. Bear Den offered a free concert, walking trails, Ping-Pong, arcade, and hanging at the lake for my 13 year old. My 7 year old lived at the playground while we were there. The bonus was that Wal-Mart was just down the mountain to the right. I'd camp out at Bear Den again in a heartbeat.
Samuel Johnson
Very peaceful and beautiful location. Our cabin was clean, convenient, and pleasant. The customer service was phenomenal. We will probably be returning, and would definitely recommend this place.
Alex Niec
We had a booking/reservation issue. I was initially unhappy with the resolution but I was very positively surprised when I received a call almost two weeks later from the booking manager trying to help us work something out. We’re all set and I can’t wait for our next visit. We had a blast during our previous stay.
The bathhouses are super clean. Sites are large and nicely wooded. The whole place has a great vibe. Love the arcade, little convenience store, playground, and all there is to do at Bear Den!
Debra Daniels
We love this campground. If you are looking for spacious camping spots, clean bathrooms, beautiful scenery, scenic hiking and pure nature, this is the place. There is plenty of play areas including basketball, volleyball, playgrounds and game room.
Kt Tourist
Beautiful place! Large campsites! Lots of great hiking trails! Staff goes above and beyond to make your stay awesome. Very polite, cordial and accommodating.

Stayed here over july 4th holiday. The campground is beautiful and woodsy. I arrived late on a Thursday and pulled into my site. Immediately the camp host came out to greet me at my site and said if I needed anything he was just across the way. Well I couldn't get my RV leveled because it was a little big for the site. But the owner Mark came out and immediately moved me to another site at like 10 pm. . How cool was that? Now that is customer service. The grounds were clean. The store is very quaint and bear den is what camping should be. I can't wait to go back in the fall. Although on the parkway, walmart is about a 15 minute drive. It was all just perfect. I highly recommend this campground .The people camping were all so nice too. Thanks bear den.
Carla Dominick
Excellent camp ground for those who love to hike. Many hiking trails lead to water falls. Under new management and they are making a lot of improvements. Would like to see more Division between the road and the campsites. Can be a little confusing.
Seth Stout
We enjoyed our stay. It is a clean quiet campground with several options for activities. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. The general store was also very reasonably priced on last minute needed items.
Blue MountainCur
Great views, relaxing peaceful experience. The crew really works to make your stay memorable.
If yer look'n for a GREAT vacation spot, you've found it!
But... the trip to and from town is the pits. The local county management has given up on showing any pride, with all of the roadside trash and dumping that is allowed!
Bear Den and Springmaid should use their clout'n get together with the local businesses and community leaders to AdoptAHighway!
Surely the local police could crack down on this behavior if they were reminded of the laws against trash and dumping.
Show us your leadership skills and community pride!

Very rustic. nice sized rv spots. beautiful area and close to shopping if needed. Only critic is no cable hookup but not a biggie since the idea of camping should be to unplug! Love this place and will go back!
R J
Fantastic campground. Warm showers, clean restrooms, friendly staff and a beautiful environment. I can't say enough good things about Bear Den and we will definitely be back. Convient to so many beautiful places.
Angie Ramos
We just got back from our second visit to Bear Den. The place is amazing- so much to do you don't even have to leave the Campground. Will be booking next year's vacation here too!
Kevin
Spots are a little small, fishing was non existent, Wi-Fi worked only on last day at checkout. Overall, very friendly, clean bathrooms, and a nice place as long as you don’t need fishing, space and internet. Gave it 3 stars instead of 2 because we got a spot that was available at last minute.
mark renfroe
Beautiful campground tucked back in the forest. It is so peaceful and has wonderful blue ridge parkway views all around. Its truly a gem.
Darrell Staton
Not for larger 5th wheels. Ours is 40 ft. Turn off parkway - swing wide or risk hitting a tree. The gravel road is very bumpy and has several sharp turns. We stayed in C11, site a pull thru. Our rear bumper dug in when leaving site. We had to put blocks under wheels to get out. After leaving we noticed due to decline of pull thru, our front cap was scrapped on our tool box and was badly damaged. On was out I had to put my f250 in 4 wheel low to get around one curve and up the gravel hill. We cannot see why their web site says this is a big rig friendly camp ground. The camp ground seemed nice for much smaller rigs. We will never try that again. Be warned large rigs. If roads were paved more , that would help a lot. Heavy camper and uphill gravel curves don't work together. Sorry, I would say 30 foot or less is more appropriate which is a shame. We love the mountains of NC.
Matt J
Bear Den is a great place to stay. There are tent and RV sites, small camping cabins, and luxurious fully furnished cabins to rent. The shower houses are clean and the staff members are very friendly.
Ben Stocks
Have stayed at Bear Den twice and plan to keep coming back. Bathrooms are clean. Office keeps firewood, ice, and misc camp goods that you may have forgotten in stock. Its very convenient. Beautiful place and tons of fun stuff to do close by.
Aaron Painter
Very accommodating, $30 sites with power and water, top of the Blue Ridge Parkway, it's like Lothlorian.
After hours check in. Very clean bathhouses, very friendly staff. Tons to do within 20 minutes, and that 20 minutes is driving through the most beautiful mountain road.
Go to Wal-Mart, because a small can of bug spray was $10 and a small bag of ice $2.50.
They do have golf carts to rent, a pool air hickey video arcade, a rec room with pinball (all packed up after labor day). We will absolutely return, we had to evacuate Hurricane Florence, they only have wi-fi and signal at the office, totally blank spot.
Chris Mullen
A fun get away, went last year. No fishing this year, didn't feel like trying. Walmart 15 minutes away which is a plus so less stuff you need to lug around.
Doug Doughty
Great Family campground nestled in a valley on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Many sites. Fishing pond and hiking trails. Very near Linville Community.
Friendly and accommodating staff.
Daniel Doerr
Excellent campsites, plenty of space, and a friendly staff, with really clean bathrooms. Hiking trails on site, close to access for the Toe and Linville rivers, with good trout fishing.
Brandon Hawkins
We have stayed here 5 or 6 times and every time is a pleasure. The staff is always friendly and helpful. If you haven’t been there recently you’ll be amazed at the improvements in the past couple years. We love this place, our favorite place in the mountains.
Samuel Blackwell
Beautiful surroundings, clean facilities, pleasant staff. We brought our kids to Bear Den and recently went again as “empty nesters”. Great to go back!
Art Rumney
Cabin was perfect.. it was nice quiet and very clean. Cant wait to go back. Very convenient to Linville falls winery
Ashley Kern
Awesome campground. 2nd year here and we plan to make it an annual trip. Much stuff to do at campgrounds as well as in the area around
Going to edit this on our 4th year going there. This time we decided to use the large group site d for 5 families. The site is great, away from everyone and good for kids to run around (but beware there is a bobcat that stayed around our site both nights and was loud about it). However there are 3 areas with electricity. We had 4 tents and 1 small camper. We lost power numerous times because we kept tripping the circuit. We literally had 1 heater on in each tent and thats all we had running on them (camper was on it's own)... its October and we all had kids so heaters are a must. We had to call the emergency line numerous times to get him to reestablish power (circuit breaker was locked even though we asked him to just keep it open so we could just do it ourselves but he refused). He gave us a ton of attitude. Our 2nd night when we called he told us he wouldnt come back to reset it again and kept telling us we had too much power running. He eventually kept it unlocked because I told him I WOULD keep calling if power went out again. You CANNOT say this group site can accommodate 60 people per thier website and then not have electricity that cant accommodate 14 people!!!! And then have a not so nice person trying to refuse helping you because he "doesnt want to come out here to do this again". Weve been coming here for 4 years, but this might have been deal breaker and we may look for another place next year since we are usually with larger group anand like the idea of a large group site. But I refuse to pay for ammendities that arent really available.

Originally we planned our stay at bear den for camping, then upgraded to a cabin due to weather, eric was very rude on the phone but switched us to a cabin. We were most excited to use the hottub on our getaway. We stayed in moutain creek cabin and upon entering the cabin it was just as pictured until we reached the hottub room. The floor was covered in flies, this wasnt the worst part tho, when we finally decided to enjoy the hottub the chemical smell when turning the jets on was over bearing taking our breath away and made us cough, so we decided it was time to go to bed, however it was a very restless night with beds as hard as boards!!

New owners Mark & Donna have done an amazing job refurbishing Bear Den Campground. We consider Bear Den Campground our 2nd home in the summer months for relaxing weekend trips & we look forward to many more years of pleasure. We are proud to be "Bear Cubs"!!!! Thanks again Mark & Donna..........keep up the good work.
Greg DeCicco
Very nice campground. Very friendly staff. Roads are a little scary. Pet owners need to take some lessons on dog barking control. Feel sorry for the poor dogs left in the RV all-day and barking their heads off. Very stressful for them and other campers.
Richard Isaacs
My wife and I had a great time. Wonderful place to spend a few days just relaxing. It was our last camping trip before she died in 2018. I so wish we could go again.
Peter Uetz
Nice campground, although may depend on the spot you get. Bathrooms are clean and have hot water. Wi-fi on campground but you have to be near a hotspot. No recycling bins (yet). If you have a tent, remember to take blankets as it can become chilly over night.
Greg Gouge
We had a great time. My only complaints would be the pond had a lot of algae and the he dust from the roads.
All of the staff were very polite and accommodating.
We pre-booked a cabin next year.
Debbie B
Stayed for 5 days and had a blast. Very friendly & helpful staff. Loved the campground and facilities. Hiking, Waterfalls and a small lake to fish & swim. Will go back!
Dan Henning
A wonderful camp site! We were at B-22 with a 20ft camper. The grounds are great and well maintained (pond, swimming, basketball, camp store, ice, rec room, pool table, ping pong etc)
J N (Borkinator)
We had the best time and found everything wonderful! The bath houses were centrally located, and while being a little dated, they were cleaned. The staff were friendly and helpful. The sites were awesome. We will be returning!
judy pazzula
Spent 3 nights in cabin #D30. Very cozy, we had heavy rain 1st 24 hours and it was devine. We are familiar with the mitchell county area so we did some local tourist visits. But mostly walked and hiked the camp grounds. Will be back
cj weiss
Wonderful family campground. All the amenities you need, staff is friendly and helpful. Quiet and relaxing campground. We would visit again if we travel in this area in the future.
Denise Oviatt
It's hard to choose a campground from a Web search. But we hit the jackpot with Bear Den! Our experience there was wonderful! We were in the tent/pop-up area, and our site was well-shaded by tall trees (it looked like all sites were). The bathhouse was clean, well-maintainted and the shower was hot! The lake has a area for swimming, as well as picnic tables for a picnic; and, of course, you can fish. There's a nice office/store with necessities, games, souvenirs, t-shirts and more. You can get a wi-fi connection for a small fee and check your email in at a spot near the office, or in the rec room. Bring quarters! The rec room has fussball, air hockey, two pool tables and games. They have a church service on Sunday mornings. There's an area for volleyball, another are for basketball. When I saw these amenities listed on the website, I was afraid it would be too 'commercialized' and busy. However, the sites are far enough from the lake, from the game area and the office and the RV and cabin areas that it was like being far back in the woods - but with the convenience of having the amenities close by. Bear Den is right on on the Blue Ridge Parkway and there are many things to see and do in the area. We will definitely go back, and highly recommend this place and its friendly and hard-working staff!
Allison Moody
Bear Den Campground is a wonderful place where I feel completely connected to nature without losing the basic amenities I love, like hot showers and cell phone service! The people are very friendly and the children loved the gameroom and swimming pond!! I loved sitting by a fire and eating smores! This place is wonderful and I highly recommend it!!!
Brent May
Great place. Loved the cascade trail. Downs side was expensive. 35 dollars a night for tent camping. Great place though has small lake for fishing and playgrounds also golf cart rentals. Employees were very nice.
Danny K.
Very nice camp ground, and would recommend to anybody. You could say its "cheating" because there are golf carts for rental and the campgrounds are somewhat close, but it still is a whole lot of fun!
John Walter
Great facilities. Friendly staff. Very clean restrooms With all fixtures in good working order. Nice hiking trailer on every side of the campground.
Nora K
We enjoyed a 2-night stay at the campground - a great way to get back to nature! Lots of activities a short drive away, down the Blue Ridge Parkway. Can't wait to go back!
Mike M
Nice camprounds. Mediocre bathrooms. All sites have power and water and they do charge premium for their tent sites. They accept AAA discounts :) Overall, 3 stars are a good description.
virginia Ward
We have been camping at Bear Den for almost 20 years. The staff is awesome, the campsites are beautiful and wooded. I just cant say enough about how much we Love Bear-den!
J P
FIRST TIME! Went down there and spend some time with my daughter, and we absolutely had a fun time. The guy that works there, was very nice and had good info (blue eyes) Bad and the good. The bad, and I'm not counting all of the drama fits, 1) it rained off and on, 2) no cellphone service (AT&T) 3) couldn't get a fire to stay lit because of the tinder was damp, and the only lighter didn't work but I had a back up fire rod 4) had to carry my daughter on my back with every thing you need, if something happens, up side of a mountain, 5) learned I was out of shape, since my army days. The good, 1) saw a three year almost four wear out for the first time, 2) she saw her first waterfall, 3) we drink form it plus, 4) ain't sick yet, 5) we set close to it and ate some tangerines to get both are energy levels up, 6) learned I was out of shape, 7) see her learn, that she is tougher than see thinks, 8) she learned not to pee on her pants, that's why I packed some, 9) watching my dog, love being a dog, 10) watch my daughter fall asleep after the hike, 11) playing music together (guitar and harmonic) 12) telling story with a headlamp as are only light source 13) waking up and seeing her and my dog sleeping soundly, 14) telling her that moring we are leaving and she saying no and why, because she loved it, 15) no cellphone service, 16) making a spoon out of a stick because I forgot one, 17) driving my old hotrod on them scenic mountain roads 18) saving a turtle out of the road together, 19) knowing that life is good, 20) made memories for my life time. I hope who ever else goes has a good time as I did. Life is meant to be lived with love
Jennifer Boger
Some sites are very small and shared water and electric are not in convenient area. Bathhouse was very clean and well kept. Peaceful and overall enjoyed our stay. ..will return!
Katie
We loved the campground! Very friendly staff, clean facilities, and peaceful. The hiking trails were great also!
Todd Ostrander
First time here and will be coming back. Super friendly staff, clean restrooms and showers. No Large RVs. Small winding road to camp off of parkway. Great weekend thank you.
Tomi Register
We absolutely love Bear-Den ... have spent a week there every summer for 20+ years!
Jacob Reinhardt
This campground is so far away from everything else. We just finished camping here, and it was great. We were right next to a playground, there is nice staff also. And, there's an apple orchard not too far away from the campground.
Teresa Wagner
Great campground, beautiful grounds, very quiet. The campground store is wonderful.
James Fulton
Great place...The Owners Mark and Donna have done a remarkable transformation of a campground into a beautiful resort.. We actually hope to br able to go up in the mountains and stay awhile...Come....You wont be disappointed. ..🐻 Bear Den Mountain Resort and campground... …
Derek Baker
Please disregard the review posted by "seekerfnla" below. It appears this person is a bad review troll reviewing campsites from Florida to South Dakota, Colorado to Alabama. Bear Den certainly isn't a drug and party place as falsely described by this user. Clearly they missed the mark on their expectations. Bear Den isn't a resort in Florida or Hawaii. Bear Den is geared towards outdoor related activities. Of course it may seem that the camp sites are on top of each other but that is expected when camping in a mountainous area. This isn't Nebraska or Alberta. These arm chair reviewers are almost as bad as Craigslist scammers and spam calls.
Shontae Hunter
It's a great place for a family vacation wether you RV, camp, or stay in one of their many cabins. The staff is very friendly and they accommodate in whatever way they can to make your stay wonderful and relaxing!
Kim Carr

Great Camp Grounds and Cabins. Very clean and quiet, with plenty to keep the kids entertained. Swimming, hiking and fishing and and activity center with pool tables, air hockey, ping ping and even video games. Several playgrounds and little onsite General Store.
Michael Harrell

Tarec Merhi
One of the best campgrounds I've been to in awhile..
Robert Mooring
Very nice place located just off the Parkway, the only issue was the dumping station was on a slope which prevents the grey and black water from emptying. We went to a empty site and dumped them. I talked to the owner he was going to correct the issue. We would definitely go there again.
stacijingram
Very clean and well kept camp sites. They could stand being a little flatter since many of the tent areas slant. Friendly and helpful staff.
Jeremy Theoneofdestiny

Brandon Markovitz

Heather Theaderman
Wonderful staff, had a great stay over Labor Day weekend with friends. Very helpful, clean bathrooms, even a scavenger hunt on one of the trails was given to us.
Lyuba Balan
It was nice, but previous years was better, because it's getting more crowded, less privacy for your family. They are adding more camp sites and cabins to the same amount of land. And it's getting more packed.
Vickie Starnes
We started camping at Bear Den when our children were young, now our son is bringing his family and we are enjoying sharing Bear Den with our grandsons and making memories.

Timothy Hall
My two teenage boys and I stayed in a “Cozy Cabin”. They are bigger than they look in the picture. There is a countertop next to the front door and plenty of room for all of our gear. There is a water spigot and electrical outlet on the outside and two outlets inside the cabin. The resort is kind of small but there are a few playgrounds and a small pond to go swimming and fishing in, and several hiking trails. I was impressed with how clean the cabins and bathrooms were.
Chris Gwaltney
Had a wonderful time beautiful place will be coming back
Matthew Pait
The threatened [but barely existent] rain scared off most of the people, so a few of us had the place to ourselves! Very kind staff, and plenty of outdoor activities to occupy a group of - quite literally - any size. We'll be back!!!
