Campground is clean, quiet, and beautiful! My husband and I spent two days there at site 8. Site 8 is close enough to walk to from our campsite for trout fishing. We will definitely stay there again!

Nice quiet little camp ground. The spots are big enough and well shaded. The bath house is clean and close to most of the spots.

We enjoyed camping here. The host was Keith with Adventure Pisgah. He does a great job managing the sites and explaining the rules (dog on leash, washing pots/pans, etc). Nice bathrooms and showers to boot!!
The campsites 1-13 are nicely spaced and provide a sense of separation from your neighbor. I sense that the East Coast campgrounds are always better maintained and more actively managed than the ones I’ve experienced out west. Perhaps because they contract out the management of to a third party.
Would we return? Yes - and we’d recommend staying here.

Camped in Site 12 - I had never been to this campground before, so I didn’t know what to expect. We were lucky enough to snag a reservation two months ago for site 12, and stayed the first weekend of Nov. It was cold at night and early morning, but the afternoons were nice. This turned out to be a gem of a campsite as the location is remote enough to enjoy the forest while only being 5 miles away from an Ingles supermarket in case you forget something. The campground caters to families and fishermen, so there wasn’t a lot of noise after the 10pm quiet hour. Site 12 appeared to be one of the larger sites with ample room for two tents and or a trailer. We had two vehicles, two tents, five people. The host did come by to make sure we set up our tents on the gravel. The site also has a steel bear box, trash pole, concrete/wood table and a fire pit (as do all the other sites). The site was very clean, except for wax from arts and crafts melted onto the tabletop from previous campers. I usually duct tape a cheap tablecloth onto the table anyway. The bathroom was very clean, and the shower house had consistent, hot water.
I spoke with the host on a few occasions and bought some firewood from him. Hint - the local Walmart had boxes of firewood $2 cheaper that were larger and was drier than the wood I got in the site. There was some vehicle noise/traffic throughout the night as people drove on the adjacent forest service road, but it wasn’t that bad. The fishing on the North Mills River can be good if you have the right gear for trout fishing. I spoke with another guy who was fishing, and he said he has had great luck there over the years.
Overall great facilities/location and I highly recommend this campground for families.
I have read about a recent trend in State Park campgrounds - people pay for reservations well in advance and never show up, leaving many campsites empty. I counted six sites that were empty and had reservation signs for the weekend, and this is a smaller campground. I don’t know how the Park Service can fix this, but it is a shame because it keeps families from being able to enjoy the campground.

This is a beautiful and very well kept campground. The things we liked the most are how far apart the campsites are from one another, most have trees and bushes between so it gives you a sense of privacy. The bathrooms, were very clean and all are private lockable rooms and the showers are the same way. We will definitely be back! This is site 15

Looking for somewhere to get away for the day? You found it! Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy God's beautiful nature. Go tubing, wade in the water, swim, or fishing. Cost is $3 to park. No cell service. Campground spots are available for tent or camper. Not sure of the fee for camping. Bathrooms and showers are also available.

Great place for fly fishing and mountain biking. Trails go along side the river for a few miles. Nice healthy small stocked stream
Mimi Wanderer
Excellent hosts, very accommodating, great campground, clean showers and restrooms. We come here every year for 3 seasons out of the year and always have a great time. We love this place!

This place is amazing. My kids can not get enough of this place. Parking is nice. Bath rooms are always clean. You can camp as well. Love it

Beautiful campground. Has a great stream running thru the park. Great for fly fishing or leisurely catching crayfish with the kids!

Great place to camp! Clean restrooms and showers. Short ride from gas and groceries. Beautiful area and friendly staff.

I went here for mountain biking. The trails were a little overgrown, but still fun. It definitely is not my favorite place I have biked, but it was a nice change of pace to some of the other nearby spots. Most of the trails are accessed by a forest service road (gravel). The trails run alongside the river mostly.
The trails are multi-use, but we did not come across any other folks on the trails, but did see runners and horse riders as well as coming across some horse 'evidence' (a big pile of it in the middle of the trail).
I recommend checking it out, especially if you are already in the area.
Tip: Bring cash. Parking is $4 that you put in an envelope and place in a lock box. There is a parking pass you tear off from the envelope to display on your dash. They DO have a ranger that rides through and checks to see that you have done this, so don't cheat!

Great place to camp or have a family outing. Beautiful scenery. Hiking, biking, fishing.

People need to heed signs respect our public lands if you bring it in full it's much lighter empty carry it out!!! Dumpsters are provided at parking area
Kyle Parker
So much fun at a great tucked away campsite.

Perfect spot to get away from the daily grind. No electric or cell service, so the only noises are from the river and the wildlife. We opted for a double site because I saw a lot of reviews saying the sites were small. Our site (24D) was HUGE for just the four of us. The camp host, Keith, did a great job and was very friendly and informative. He sold firewood for $8/bundle. Ingles grocery store and several take out restaurants are around 3 miles away. Can't wait to come back.

Nature, bathrooms, tables and tons of private areas all with an amazing view. Whats not to love!
Salvage Paradise
Overall I liked the place. But it’s pretty packed (at the same time feels safer), you don’t get a lot of space for camping. After 10 you have to be very quiet, you can’t leave if needed, or even start the car.

Stayed weekend of Aug 18-20, 2017. The hosts' were so helpful and nice! The sites were clean and very well maintained. With the exception of noisy neighbor across from us the first night this was an excellent trip. Bathrooms are well maintained and clean! Firewood was available on site and the host delivered to us. The hosts were visible all day long going around checking on everyone.

Beautiful, backwater feeling area, good for camping, picnics, gatherings, hiking, even some fishing. $4 to park and you can go all day as a non-camper. Wonderful representation of the Pisgah Forest, with glorious, towering old trees on each side of the North Mills River. There are places you can access the water, a shallow Rocky River that eventually feeds into the French Broad River. Sturdy picnic tables are dotted throughout the park, as well as built in grills. You'll have to provide your own charcoal. Area is clean, and a restroom building is available for use.
Kevin Mcnamee
Great place to do a little bit of trout fishing.

Clean campgrounds, friendly staff (even for my late check-in!) and convenient for food/firewood/drinks (ingles/Starbucks/gas station 3 mi down the hill). Bathroom and showers were very clean although showers were a bit of a walk from site #13 - brig snacks! :p
The neighbors one camp site over were very loud blasting music from their car and yelling at their 153 kids all afternoon. It went on well into quiet-time hours and it was not addressed by the staff when performing rounds, so it could have escalated (it didn't). Noise control was definitely an opportunity every night for this trip.

Awesome place for a picnic by the stream or for the kids to play and splash in the water. Popular with fly fishing and mountain biking, and there's also a nice campground for tents and RVS. We come here throughout the year as it's one of our favorite local hangouts or places to splash around on a hot day.
Lisa Trull
Checked out the campground. Pretty nice sites. We might visit later in cooler weather when we don't need hookup to run AC.

Beautiful, safe, family-friendly, and well-kept camping sites & picnic grounds right along/close to the river. There are restroom facilities nearby. You can enjoy an array of outdoor activities including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and site-seeing.
Louvegas
Awesome slice of wilderness rough road after campground area with lots of wildlife fishing and free camping areas where marked pack out trash do not litter game wardens patrol daily very safe and clean area for many to enjoy the campground area has bathrooms showers picnic tables gravel pads bear boxes dumpsters fishing fee areas 13 dollars a night winter camping fee beautiful place to enjoy the quiet

This is a great place to spend the day hanging out beside the river. If you have kids they can likely tub the river as long as we are not in drought.
There are also several waterfalls in the area continuing up Yellow Gap road will give you backroad access to many of the popular wrote waterfalls such as Looking Glass Falls.
Matthew Gregg
Great spot for group camping. Clean restroom facilities and showers. Nice flowing stream nearby for cooling off or letting the kids play. Easy hiking trails nearby. Great educational programs in the evenings.

Great spot to camp, hike, fish or just simply have a quiet lunch. The North Mills River Recreation Area has something for just about everyone.
I go there often just to have a packed lunch with my wife and enjoy the scenery. Of course, I often bring along my fly rod.
This spot is very close to Highway 280 and the Asheville Airport although it seems you are a million miles from civilization. Beautiful spot!
Amy & Greg Francisco
Quiet. Secluded Sights. Hot showers. And lovely surroundings.
Kelly Jaquish
great location and pretty views of mills river. 8-10 minutes from Sierra Nevada brewery, which is a plus! bathrooms are mediocre. a lady was literally bathing in the sink and would not move to let me wash my hands, thank god for hand sanitizer. the "warden", as our group called him later, drove around the camp sites on his golfcart and checked that everything was ok and gave tips about the firepits. Wasnt afraid to leave our stuff out at the campsite. picnic table, fire pit with grill, and flat tent spot included!
Delno Kelly
