Reviews of Ship Creek RV Park

Served our needs well. Wanted someplace near the train station and downtown. Felt safe, it was clean and the laundry washer and dryers worked well. Not some place you want to spend a lot of time though because it is extremely noisy with two airports, the train tracks, and industrial area. Check in was easy. Funny we saw the most bears here!

Do you enjoy watching small planes flying over your head? Do you enjoy train going right past the camp ground. Then this is the campground for you. Located conveniently in the city and still surrounded by trees it is a fairly nice place to stay. In the laundry room is a box where people leave things like salt and oil for other tourists who need it.
Jordan Tessler
Nice little RV park! Easy to figure out full hookups, and felt very secluded despite being in anchorage. We were worried about the noise that others mentioned, but it was perfectly quiet all night!
Kristen Tucker
The choices in Anchorage for RV parks are few and far between. The best thing I can say about this place is it is reasonably clean and that is not unimportant.
There is a train track that runs parallel to the entire campground… that wouldn’t be so bad except they have to blow the whistle maaaany time to cross the intersection. Add in the fact that there’s a fire station across the street and this is the noisiest campground ever.
There are a handful of picnic tables scattered around but not one for every site.
The sites do have sewer, water, and electric. No problems there.
It’s in a very industrial area and there are electronic codes for the bathroom door.
The bathrooms were cleaned very well but in need of repair. 2/3 showers were covered in waterproof tape at the bottom.
3 stars for cleanliness. 1 star for location/amenities. The fact is that there aren’t many options but this one’s probably your best bet for a clean shower.

This is a nice little RV park run by a lovely couple. It has clean bathrooms and a clean laundry room. We came very late in the season and felt like we had the park to ourselves! The park itself is located very close to everything, in fact the train runs right behind it! But, it doesn't run often, so it's more quant, than annoying. The park is close to the airport and downtown. It's really quite convenient, yet safe. We will absolutely stay here again.
John Reid
Toilets and showers and laundry room only open between 10am till 2pm most expensive site we stayed on in Alaska noisey railway line next to site
Abbie Loyd
After reading some of the reviews for this place I was hesitate to book there but I’m super glad that we decided to stay there. The reviews were so wrong on every account. There was no homeless problem, the bathrooms and showers, as well as the laundry room is accessible by a key code that you get on arrival so they are available for use 24 hours a day. We didn’t arrive till very late and because I let them know well in advance, all of our things were waiting for us when we got there. Washer and dryer are $2 a piece and showers were clean and had good water pressure. The rv park was so close to downtown that we walked to food and it’s close enough to the train station that we walked there too. Would definitely stay there again!
Kevin Copes
Everything a first time RV user could have asked for, very accommodating, clean showers, lots of hot water
Gary Smith
This is a pretty decent Park clean restrooms reasonable laundry decent Wi-Fi antenna you can get a few channels close to downtown I asked around about the other RV parks in the areas and a lot of people say they're not in great areas so this turned out to be very reasonable
Tony Huang
Site is clean. Full hookup. The train track didn’t bother us, maybe we are too tired to hear any noise from the passing train. Restroom and shower 24/7, password lock, looks clean. A good place to stay the night before returning our RV rental.
Sharon Talmor Marcovici
This campground has everything we needed for both our first and last night with the rented RV, including full hookup and laundry.
Desiree Doucet
We found this gem of an RV park when we showed up at another park nearby and were horrified with the facilities. I called the office and was immediately taken care of....the gentleman who answered was patient but efficient. The office had just closed but he left us with paperwork to get us a spot for the night and waited for us to arrive to ensure we had everything we needed. Clean restrooms and showers, close to downtown and quiet. I would gladly stay here again.
Jeral Poskey
Great place to rent an RV. The quality of the vehicles and the appliances are all a bit better than cruise America where I usually rent. The amenities packages were all good. The white blankets aren't very good so make sure you get one of the additional ones if you think you're going to be cold.
Mike Galenski
The frequent trains with whistle blowing. Bathrooms are nice and managers are cool

We have stayed at virtually every campground in the Anchorage area over the years and from our view, this is one of the best. Ship Creek RV is an amazingly peaceful and secure little oasis in the middle of downtown Anchorage and John and Heather (the campground hosts) go the extra mile to make sure you have the best possible experience while there. It's important to know that the campsites are near the railroad tracks and this is because the Alaska RR owns the land, but we find the train a somewhat intriguing experience and have even started learning what the different whistles mean. It's kind of fun to wave to the tourists when the tourist trains leave and return every day and we feel secure knowing that the area is patrolled by RR security. I mean, Anchorage is a city and like all cities, it is important to feel safe. We also love that this campground comes with bears. Yup. Black bears. I saw them more than once, but they were respectful bears for the most part and as long as you follow the rules about not leaving food out, they basically just pass through and give you that wildlife experience. This campground has great water and convenient hookups. Because it is older, the spaces a little narrow, but we were able to easily work around that. If you're vigilant, you might find some wild raspberries to snack on around the park and due to it's location, the convenience to accessing Anchorage and points beyond could not be any better. After staying there several times this summer, we highly recommend Ship Creek RV and look forward to visiting again during coming RV seasons. We met people from all over the world there, which really added to the experience.

Excellent “Alaska Style” RV Park! A taste of Alaska right in the city! Pros: Gravel Spaces with full hookups; quiet; safe park; walking distance to ANC (go out the back of the park); clean showers & laundry; friendly and helpful staff; security comes through several times a day. Sometimes you get to see Alaska wildlife (bear & moose).Cons: Right by train tracks (short loud trains twice a day); occasional jet noise from air force base.
The pros definitely outweigh the cons!
silvia winfield
This is a glorified parking lot, but don't underestimate the advantage of being so close to the city. Yes the train comes through every night, yes the planes buzz around all day long, but the ability to have a short walk and have all of the amenities of this beautiful city make up for this for sure. Wifi worked well most times until evening when everyone was in.
Spots are a little crammed, and awnings are impossible to use, but beyond that the proximity to the city and the pathways more than makeup for it once you leave the campground area.

The staff was very friendly. The RV has a full hook-up with a pull-through. Very close to Downtown Anchorage (15 min walk). We used the park the night before returning the RV we rented. It's perfect for that. The place is a bit noisy, because it's basically sitting on train tracks. Trains run until late at night.
Jackal2021
Nice place. Great location. Clean facilities and not bad wifi!! Can’t complain at all :) had a great stay.
If you don’t like trains don’t stay here tho! We didnt find them a problem at all
I see lots of people in the reviews commenting on the homeless problem- we didn’t feel unsafe at all, they stay out of the RV park and security drives through the park multiple times per day / night
Michelle Lewis
The park is nice and the people that work there are great. It is surrounded by homeless people everywhere outside the camp. There is also a train that runs every night all night long and blows its whistle!!! The camp is close to downtown and a short walk to the river.
Lee R
It looks like a good place to stay if you are in a rv. We had a tent and didn't feel safe so we didn't stay, they have a separate portable bathroom in the tent area and it looks like the homeless people that live in the woods in the back use it. It is loud here because of the airport and trains but if you are in a rv it would be okay I think.
Randall Brown
Rough looking neighborhood lots of homeless people just outside the gate. A loud train also comes by, horn blowing like, well like a freight train. Nice people working the desk. Sites are really close together, no privacy at all.

Awesome place! Everyone has been so helpful and accommodating. We had to leave the horrible Golden Nugget Rv park and thank goodness this place was available. They have full hook ups for all different kind of rigs. Very clean spots and bathrooms. Nice people that work in the office. When you stay here you actually feel like your in Alaska not like dumps of Golden Nugget. Its get busy just like every other RV park on the ALCAN so make sure you have reservations. No locals or live ins in this park unlike the Golden Nugget. Five stars for Five star service!
Mark Noe
Nice RV site. Was not impressed with being placed in an area too small for our RV. Almost incurred some serious damage to the undercarriage. Moved to a soot mire conducive for our RV. Nice facilities
Drew Meyers
Everything is as described, but the park is right next to the dump, train tracks, and the airport. So it is definitely a noisy location. Additionally the bathrooms are not the best
Sherry Nicholes
Nice people but you are right on the train tracks. It's very loud! The laundry room is small and always crowded. WiFi is useless. Walking distance to downtown. Gravel spots with some grass.
Katie N
Nice RV park. Very clean facilities (bathroom, showers, laundry) and friendly staff. Only downside is being next to the train tracks but its not so bad. Within walking distance to the Ulu factory - highly recommended.
Trudy Helgeson
This park has gotten a bad rap from several RVers and I wanted to make sure you have something very positive. This campground is near the railroad downtown its true but we only ever heard one train at nite and it certainly was not something that kept us awake. This park is well kept and the facilities are extremely clean with great showers and a very nice laundry facility. The personnel at this park are very friendly and truly try to accomodate every need. We are going back again tonite on our way back through Anchorage because in our opinion it is the best park in Anchorage.
Ami Yancey
It is not our typical camp ground either, gravel parking lot, but for anchorage there are few choices. The staff were very friendly, facilities were clean. Yes there is a train, but didn't bother us. 44$ good sam. Will stay again if going back to anchorage .
Nancy DeClerk
It's a very nice RV park. They are very efficient, and friendly. A good clean park. We stayed with them 3 separate times during our Alaskan vacation. We plan on staying with them again when we return to Alaska in few years.
Philip Cole
Walking distance to downtown, few miles from the nearest grocery store. The spots are narrow, and most are back-in. Some people seem to have a great misunderstanding about what to expect in Alaska, and I think that those unrealistic expectations lead to disappointment. In Alaska, reliable internet access can be difficult to find. The FREE WiFi in park is slow, spotty, but par for the course around here. It is located next to the train tracks, so bring ear plugs. The showers are free and clean, there are 4 washers and 8 dryers. When I was there, everything was working, except one dryer. But you know what? It's hard to get parts in Alaska. Anchorage may feel like a big city, but everything has to get barged in, flown in, or trucked in over the AlCan, so sometimes things take a while to get fixed. If you want a nice wooded setting, you should go dry camping in the woods. If you want full hookups in walking distance of downtown Anchorage, and you don't have a rig with 20 tip-outs, Ship Creek is a good place.
Lisa E
Well equipped RV park but surrounded by sketchy people and the road leading to it was very trashy. Busy railroad running next to park so can be noisy at times. Good salmon fishing within walking distance.
Linda and Suzie
Sites are a little tight as previously reported but the road is plenty wide enough to navagiate. Right next to train tracks but not that big of a deal. Management very nice, owner came down and got a bird out of our rig for me. Great place.
Mike Lewis
Nice campground. Trains run close by, noisy at night. Homeless camps around the block was advised to lock up belongings at night by other campers.
Yihui He
The staff are very friendly and helpful. The shower and bathroom are very clean. The Tony Knowles Coastal Trail and museums are in walking distance.
P R
Great, if you are a railway enthusiast. See and hear American powerful diesel engines from near. Close to dwntown, about 15 mintutes walking. Alaska is great. Best wishes from Germany!
Lisa Fox
Clean facility and friendly staff. Not a true camping feel with the city and train very close but there are plenty of trees and black bears😳 …
Owen “Docowen” Mckee
Good hook ups, good showers, lots of electricity, and enough Mosquitoes to satisfy any Alaskan and Most Iowans.
Chuck Reever
Very friendly, very clean. Love the Seagulls and the entire atmosphere. We have stayed here 10 times over the years.
Chris Wood
The managers are very awesome people as long as follow the rules ,very clean and property in well maintained at $39 a night for water sewer and Electric just wish they were open all year round
Shaun Hoffman
Did not end up staying here but please note that RV sports are full hookups only and they do not reply quickly (same day) to reservation requests from their online form (it does say within 48 hours but I expected better during the week).
Vinci Filio
We thought the RV park was well maintained. Good location and the facilities were clean. The staff was friendly and very helpful.
Rusty Jones
Live this place. Always clean and secure, and the hosts are very accommodating. Highly recommend these guys after staying here many times.
Jessica Hodges
It was a good park with area for our kids to get outside. The location was busy between the train road and airport which made sleeping difficult.
stela mazzola
They do have a noise problem, train and aircraft mostly. But nice and out of the way for most traffic noise. Close to downtown shopping.
Jeri Roll
Its clean with wi-fi and showers. The only downside is it's by the train tracks and you can hear the trains but ear plugs fix that!
Ken Reichert
Clean, friendly owner, restrooms warm and clean. A place that is worth visiting and staying at. Would recommend it to anyone and will be returning in the future.
Mark Deschere
Well organized, easy to get in and out, all hookups provided and decent (free) showers.
Lisa Miller
Tight campground but clean. Don't leave the "village" because there is a plethora of shady people in the area - both directions of campground.
Ginger Torsell
Close to everything in town but sites are very close - too close to put the awning out. Would stay there again just for the convenience of the location.
Tina Mercer
Very helpful staff. Clean park and clean restrooms. The mediocre rating is very misleading.
Jo Owens Murray
Nice clean park in town.
kimberly allen
This is a very clean park with great management, but just know it's in an industrial area so the surrounding area is a little gritty.
Danny Quick
The people there are great and friendly especially the guy that services motorhomes
Annette Pohl
Great place to stay. All the facilities are very clean and the staff is great.
Sarah Zesiger
Nice tucked away place and pretty but the only draw back are the trains that go by first thing in the morning.

(Translation) Excellent campsite, good sanitary facilities, sun and shade pitches.
There can be quite a bit of noise from passing trains, airplanes and fighter jets, but I don't think that's a problem.
(Original)

Sehr gut gelegener RVPark in Anchorage.

Very well located RV Park in Anchorage. Clean restrooms and laundry. At most the noise of the passing and honking trains can be described as a disadvantage.

The location is nice if you want to hike the Ship Creek Trail. It's only 800m away.
Otherwise, the campsite is located directly on the railway line, the trains are visible behind the fence and honk - as usual - at every single street crossing. Earplugs didn't help much.
The crying gulls are active from sunrise (4 o'clock in the morning).
In addition, the seaplanes start directly above the campsite. You can't expect a quiet location here. But if you know beforehand, it's ok.
The tents have their places at the back (approx. 4-5). There is a camping table for every 2 tents. Water is right there, but no electricity.
The showers/toilets are 250 steps away. So far clean, but you have to rinse forever. Showers are nice and warm and were clean. WiFi also works at the back of the tents.

We were already panicking about the reports, but it definitely wasn't that bad. The place is spacious and clean, we were not afraid. The area behind the fence is not so nice. The train is sometimes noisy, but I was still able to sleep. The pitches have water and electricity and some picnic benches. WiFi works on the entire site. We came after 5 p.m. because the place is not occupied, but everything worked, even with the passwords. Aif the place is warned of black bears. The toilets were clean and heated. The showers are a bit dirty.
Susanne Roeske

Expected worse after the recessions. But it was totally OK. Location not so nice, but relatively quiet. Toilets and showers could be cleaner. But everything was fine for one night.

(Translation)
Clean park with nice staff. Within walking distance from downtown. Large RV sites with electricity/water and drainage at a fair price.
Two stars deducted due to the blatant background noise. There is a small freight depot right next door. Super loud between 5am and 12am. In addition, the entry lane for small aircraft is located above the RV site.
