Reviews of REI
Absolutely the biggest REI I've ever seen or been in! We got there about 10 minutes before closing needing new hiking boots for my kiddo. They were so helpful.
Great outdoor, hunting, camping, hiking fishing store. So much to choose from. Top name brand, staff is helpful and friendly. I love that if your a member you get rebates!
It has been years since I have been to REI in Anchorage. What a glow up! This is my favorite location so far. I had a couple of questions about hiking in the snow & everyone was super friendly from cashier to shoe attendant. None of them made me feel like a noob. We got everything we needed & more. The restrooms were clean. The store was immaculate. I wish this was my local REI. Maybe someday soon. I went 3 times during my stay in Anchorage. Five stars each & every time.
I've been going here for years. Today I ran into an employee named Jay, who was absolutely professional and knowledgeable. It was definitely my best experience here at REI today!
This place is the truth and can be dangerous due to their great deals. I love the fact that you can buy something, take it out and battle test it and if you don’t like it return it with no questions asked. It’s also only $20.00 for a lifetime membership. God bless America 🇺🇸 and REI. …
The 'Brand New' REI store is incredible. I feel transported into an outdoors commercial where everything is perfect. The clothing is soft, warm, and if I'm lucky the it's on clearance. No matter what I buy I'm getting money back with my REI Membership, so I know that I'm coming back next season to buy more goodies! Bring a cup of coffee and walk slowly.
Plenty of parking at this location too!

Very nice store for all your outdoor gear and activity gear in Anchorage. Kind of a one shop stop for all your fun outdoor supplies. The items change with the seasons a bit. Ski gear is up front and center when I stopped by and decided to write this review, and boy do they have some nice stuff. I get stuck in their camping gear sections every time I wander into this place. Don't be shocked by the prices, they cary nice stuff, and you generally get what you pay for.
Was there shopping for some hiking shoes and other misc supplies today and was happily surprised by the most friendly staff I have ever encountered. They helped me through the process of picking out the right boot telling me how they should feel and fit and let me test them out on this simulated trail device. Even gave me socks to test them in and found the perfect boot for me. And happily pointed out everything that we needed. And the register happily took our order, thanked us and we bid our farewells. Extremely happy with my visit and tons of great selection to choose from. The high price is well worth it as everything is high quality and will last you for many years to come. Thank you for the excellent service and selection!
If I could give more stars I would. We are 4300~ miles from home and our Dometic 75litre fridge/freezer died (awesome fridge - things happen). We made plans to take our awesome fridge home to be warrantied and just buy another one here in Anchorage. Originally we were just going to get a small one, but once getting to the store they had another 75! After working with Li Na to sort out our mess we were able to exchange our fridge (RIP) with a new one. Zach A. found the 75 in the back, grabbed our old one out of the van and then brought the new one out. We didn't want to burden them the box/trash of the new fridge so we were just going to take care of it later, but Zach offered to take it all to make sure it could get recycled. It isn't always easy to find a spot to recycle on the road. He was also able to give us some recommendations to see local art. Maxwell was also helpful in sorting things out. Whether REI just got lucky and hired kind and helpful people or they just love working here, either way, an awesome experience. The whole situation is exactly why we'll keep shopping at REI.
Love this store. Great deals on clearance. Very helpful staff and super kind check out people. Both of our teenagers are applying for a job today!
Love the store, it's a co+op, and they have tough quality merchandise and a good selection. Truly a good shop for Alaskans looking for gear to go out and play.
Great experience fast in and out and knowledgeable staff. My son was really happy they had his brand and size
We went to the grand opening of the new REI co-op. It was immaculate and very nice inside. All the staff were super friendly. We had an issue with payments and the manager was able to make it right for us swiftly amongst the mass chaos. Thanks for an enjoyable experience!
I've mostly come here to purchase bike parts and get my commuter bike serviced. I think the only disappointment I've had here were some replacement laces I wanted to buy locally, but weren't in stock. Oh well, can't expect one store to stock replacement parts for everything. Other than that, it has the quality and variety I've come to expect from any REI.
Tom, Zach, and others in The Bike Shop literally saved my day! They are extremely helpful, and made me a loyal customer for life!
Huge shoutout to Tom. He really helped a lot. I owe you at Bear Tooth!
Best,
Nate
Got in and out with staff helping us find what we were looking for. My favorite outdoor store for selection and just general atmosphere
Update: I must have dealt with a few bad employees on unlucky days. On my fourth try I got a great employee that helped me find all the products I needed!
Usually I am pretty impressed with REI and the products they offer, sadly the costumer service isn’t always the best. Sadly my last visit they could not tell me anything about what inventory they had or if they were possibly getting more. This was the third time I’ve come there looking for snow pants and this has happened multiple time now. I understand everyone is busy, but it really sucks for the customers when you won’t even try and just tell them you can’t check.
Very nice store layout. Went in to purchase a light weight rain coat and found what I was looking for. Was looking for a red coat and told Heidi at the checkout. She took the time to see if REI had the rain coat in Red, no joy there, but she did try. I call that great customer service. Give REI a try if your looking for outdoor gear!!
Great store and employee teams. Hanna did a great job working a tough online order problem with me today and exercised great patience in making the resolving the situation. Great to have this organization in Alaska to support our outdoors.
It's a great design it's well laid out beautiful inside and everything you need for camping is here
Had a great outing at REI today. Bought a Osprey backpack at a deep discount in their Attic (returns that are marked down). Zaynab, Zach and Genta were very helpful and friendly. They also have a promotion going on right now giving $20 to each member who shops (their might be a minimum purchase amount). I spent an hour there and barely had enough time to get my pack and go through a few clearance racks. Their inventory is extensive. I’ll be headed back soon...the fat tire bikes alone are reason enough. I love REI!
Great store. Way to long a lines at checkout during current Christmas on multiple trips. I can't spend 20 minutes in line every time I want to buy something, even mid-week, mid-day. Lots of helpful employees, 2 people working registers with 5 available and over a dozen people in line.
Not bad! Great staff. I have never heard of anyone getting kidnapped or murdered at, or near, an REI-- definate plus! I would recommend that you become a member TODAY!
I really do love REI! It’s such a great store. My wife and I were in Anchorage for the afternoon and I wanted to stop by and see what they had. The store is really big compared to my local REI. It’s a one story building and it has a great aesthetic look to it. The layout of the store is wide and spacious. The staff was very helpful during our visit there.
Very clean location with knowledgeable staff. Products are top tier. My only regret is the price is also top tier. Best to watch for deals and shop those.
Nice and relaxed atmosphere where sales associates weren’t hard to find but also not pushy. There was plenty of inventory all in all areas and the sizing for REI products looked accurate. The music wasn’t too loud. Overall it was a pleasant shopping experience.
I can’t say enough good things about the bike shop at this place. These people deliver at the best prices.
The associates were more than helpful. What I wanted was not there but they highly recommended the face mask I purchased. I do not regret the purchase. Then I was able to use my dividend to purchase it. I was more than satisfied with everything there and their customer service.
Not as large of some of the other locations in the country, but it's still a good size. It's an attractive, clean store in an accessible, central location in town. I was a visitor in the area, but I would definitely be happy resident if I had this REI in town serving my in-store and online tasks.
Nice experience at this new REI. I haven't visited since it has been in the new location and it is nice. Very big. Not too many people on a Saturday afternoon. People were wearing masks and keeping distant. They do have a few carts to use in store that they wipe off after use.
Excellent equipment and very friendly workers. I feel the workers has the huge experience in all type of sport! Thank you for your advises.
I love being a member of REI! You get member discounts plus yearly dividends. The warranty on items is just as amazing as the items themselves. The higher end items are worth the cost. They last a long time, actually keep you warm and there are sizes for the whole family!
The bike shop is top notch. Chris and JP welcomed me in with a bike I bought elsewhere. They were super helpful, educated me on bike options/mechanics, and most importantly resolved my issues quickly, cheaply, kindly and with utmost professionalism.
Went for ski binding mounting. The guys are real knowledgeable professionals. That's all you'll get from this place. Also 60 bucks for re mount. Pretty good price compared to 65 at Alyeska powder Hound. Ski AK is same proce I believe.
Staff is very helpful, but don't hover. Lately the in-store selection has suffered due to supply chain problems, but you can get items shipped to the store for free.
They never have what I want in stock, just the worse version of the item that they make. They seem to have lots of stock but I have never managed to actually buy something here
Has everything you need for outdoors in Alaska. Employees were extremely helpful in helping me find what I was looking for. They didn’t have my size pants on the floor but found some in the back for me. I was able to get all the gear I need for various situations for what I do.
Pricey of course but a lot of cool things you find at few other mountaineering, outdoors, sports equipment, camping, and for any weather conditions. Tons of accessories and unique items from some of the footwear to the winter coats of quality in every style and size and again a decent amount of performance camping gear and all kinds of repair kits to make the stuff last a lifetime although they have a return with receipt if dissatisfied at any point no questions you're just dissatisfied and that's that they'll give you the cash back or put it back on your card no problem no hassle. Unabused, most of the stuff should last just about a lifetime anyways. Very helpful knowledgeable staff
I found the floorstaff to be very helpful. I rented and bought a lot of stuff here before heading out for 10 days in Denali and the Kenai. The rental pickup was a little bit of a hassle and I took some time to double check everything they gave me across everything I reserved. I had to run in from the parking lot twice to pick up additional items they forgot to bring out during the pickup process. But the dropoff was seamless. They said the online reservation system for rentals is new, so I'm sure once they work out the bugs it'll be smoother.
Leaving this review after our experience with Henry. He overhead us discussing what we wanted out of a camp chair and then proceeded to hunt the perfect chair down for us in the back. Henry’s helpfulness will keep us appreciative on all our future camping adventures and keep us coming back to REI.
Shout out to the tech shop. I always like bringing my skis in. The guys on Monday morning (3/8/21) were friendly, relatable, knowledgeable, and fast.
Generally l enjoy the personnel. They’re friendly and always ask if they can help me find something. There are a couple I’ve encountered the last few months that seem annoyed when you ask for help. I get it, they have jobs to get done too. But if you’re on the floor - fair game for questions IMO. One associate was very stand-off ish. She was masked, I was masked, 6ft apart. But while I was talking she kept taking more steps back and had a weird look in her eyes, awkward!!
Anyways, love the co-op. Hassle free returns if needed. Great selection.
Love this store. Had a HUGE selection of clothes, gear and all sorts of miscellaneous items you didn’t know you needed but are glad they had! Staff are super helpful and knowledgeable. Signed up for the membership and will be back!
Although I have perused a respectable number of REI stores across the country, as well as this outlet in its previous location ,my recent visit to the new facility was both enjoyable and satisfying. Not only was there a sufficient number of staff, but they were knowledgeable, professional, and seemed eager 2 assist. The new building was clean, well organized, and well stocked. In true REI form, the displays were superb, allowing hands on interaction and testing.
My only major gripe would be directed at the overall cost of the items.... buuuuttttt, such is the price for quality. So in reality my "gripe" should really be translated into,"Wishful thinking". Hey! A man can dream, right?!
I am giving the Anchorage store 3 out of 5 because my shopping experience was half good. The shoe department staff were very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. It took me some time to settle on which shoes I would buy, but they were patient and willing to let me try on as many pairs as I needed and helped make sure the fit was correct. The customer service areas and staff leave much to be desired! The "check-out line starts here" is far away from the registers. For customers who do not shop there often or never have, they wouldn't know that. Rest assured that when "I can help the next person in line" is heard and the inexperienced shopper steps up, the customer service person will embarrass them by pointing to the person coming from a mile away. I also made the mistake of getting in line at customer service in the back of the store thinking that since registers were there and no signs indicated otherwise, this was a place I could complete my purchase. I was able to, but I was rudely informed that "just for future reference" I need to take my purchases to the front of the store. If this is the way of it, then invest a few dollars in signs that address what that area is for and what it is not! I didn't bother to to inform the rude, little wet behind the ears young man that he is out of line, I'm a customer, and that discretion is the better part of valor (ie: sometimes customer service means keeping your mouth shut when you have nothing valuable, and rude to contribute). I debated on returning the shoes the next day so the store can just lose the sale, but my husband convinced me not to do that, but don't shop there again, and I won't. I will also share this experience with others!
REI at the Midtown Mall location is big store with a variety of outdoor clothing and equipment for adults and kids.. There is even a bike repair shop, where they also work on skis. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly.
Very nice REI! It's large with lots of stock. The staff was very helpful with all questions and took me to areas around the store instead of pointing to out where I should go. The prices were too high for me to purchase anything though. ☹️
Very nice and knowledgeable staff. Prices are good. I went to buy some hiking boots found their prices and selection to reasonable. Less expensive than the walking store.
Great selection, customer service, and return policy. We have been shopping here for 5 years, the employees at this store have always been helpful and knowledgeable about gear and the local area. There are several big sales each year and the 10% dividend for REI members is nice as well.
This REI store has increasingly become more tailored to serve a female denomination of consumers, especially in the shoes and apparel selection.
However the staff are friendly and helpful.
We've always gotten great service there.
The store usually has what we want or we're able to order it is to to store for free. The staff are very knowledgeable in a variety of areas and quite friendly. It seems like a good workplace.
We've attended some of the classes there as well and found them useful.
All and all a great store
Love this store. Bought my first kayaking gear, biking and hiking equipment here in 1982. Glad to see it's still going strong!
I manage to find myself here every couple of weeks. They have a great selection and if they don't have exactly what I'm looking for, then it gives me ideas for where to start. The employees also do a spectacular job. They're always willing to help and very knowledgeable. Some prices can be steep; however, there is almost always some type of sale going on and being a member usually brings along some great discounts too.
I agree with some others as well. Stores won't change if all they're given is 5/5 because the store had "cool" stuff. Of course it does, it is a corporate chain, and one of the few curtailing to outdoor items in a heavily laden outdoor state!
My review is their signage near the front, needs some assistance to be better placed. The inexperienced customer service staff at the front needs to more understanding when customers aren't sure if they're the ones being pointed at to check out.
Good customer service entails the WHOLE experience, not just in assistance with finding the right item but through checkout as well.
New huge store and in June I could only find one men's raincoat that wasn't a $300+ GoreTex one. And that one didn't have my size. Old location was smaller but at least I could find what I was looking for. 30 minutes there and couldn't get the attention of any associates. Blame Covid, I guess?
Who does not love REI? And there is nothing to not love about this location. No more stairs, that’s great for handicap access; I love it. Great selection of snacks to throw in your pack for a day hike, all the tools you could dream of to take and everything you need for any adventure you could ever imagine!
Super friendly staff was very helpful when I was trying to find a roof rack and gave me all the help I needed even went out to look at my car just to make sure it was the right one. Always love going to REI just an all around place if you love hiking they have the equipment, Rock climbing they have it all kayaking, skiing, snowboarding, biking lol they literally have everything thanks a bunch guys!
New REI location is great! Spacious and easier to navigate aisles. The staff are approachable, and last time I was there every employee I came across asked if I needed any help. Definitely would recommend.
Not busy finally. Jacket I got for a gift was regular 249.00. You would think spending that much the zipper wouldn't be so hard to zip. But very very warm for how thin it is
The new store is huge. Great selection of gear and friendly staff.
I am a member at REI. I always buy my shoes and socks there.I called yesterday because the shoes I have been wearing decided to finally give it up and it was time to buy a pair of shoes to replace them.
You may not try clothes on but you can try on shoes before you buy them ☺️
This is a plus during the pandemic.
Yes I mentioned I buy my socks from them too.
Matching your socks to your footwear make sure feet happy. When you properly match socks and footwear depending on the weather and what you doing you don't get blisters and your feet do not sweat. This is very important especially if you are outside for instance walking to a bus stop. I learned that trick from Vietnam veterans who also told me I need to always carry a spare set of socks.
Their new location is awesome. Everything is organized, easy to find, and there is so much space compared to the old location. The employees are knowledgable and so helpful and if one person is not an expert at what you are asking about, they will find someone who is instead of just selling you stuff you don't need.
I really like REI. I love the various and expansive items they have for sale. I really like having experienced salesman available when you have questions on products. My boyfriend and I went one summer day to shop for a car top carrier. We walked in the door and straight to the car top carriers to see which one we liked best. Before we could ask anyone for help a young employee walked up with keys and unlocked the carriers for us. He explained the sizes and features that each carrier had. He even walked one of the carriers out to our car with us to see if it would fit. Once at the car he noticed we didn't have crossbars so once we got back in the store he picked out crossbars and locks for us. We decided to buy the crossbars that visit and do more research on the car top carriers. All that to say we returned several days later to pick out a carrier we chose. The very helpful young man that was there the first visit was not there. Instead we were accompanied by an older gentleman who was not helpful at all. We were asking him questions on some features and if they had extra carriers in the back, he couldn't answer either. Frankly we got more help that visit from another customer than we did with the employee. We ended up not buying anything that day and left quite disappointed. I even asked the front desk when the younger employee would be back in the store so we can return when he's working. Even then we ended up buying a used carrier from a friend.
All in all I still really like REI. I will continue being a customer and member.
This is a great store for just about every outdoor activity you can think of. I've bought tons of things here from hiking shoes, jackets, backpacks, sleeping pads, socks, shirts, water bottles, camping chairs; you name it. The staff is extremely helpful and they're actually knowledgeable about the products that they sell which is hard to find at most stores. If I have a question about a particular item, they're able to answer it thoroughly. At most other stores, the employees are clueless about the items that they sell. The return policy is also great and I've had no issues returning items. I think it's also pretty cool that you can return items in store that you purchased online.
The only thing that I wish they would change, is as others have stated; the whole check-out line ordeal. I've probably been to this store about 20 times this summer alone for backpacking gear and I know the whole drill with how they have the line start a ways away from the register, near the water bottles. But today when I went to checkout, I was standing in the normal spot by the water bottles waiting to be called next, when someone walked right in front of me to stand directly behind someone who was already at a register checking out. This kind of took me by surprise because I was thinking, "did she just cut me in line? or did they change where the line starts?". I've never really read the sign about where the line starts because I've always seen everyone else standing and waiting by the water bottles and that's where I've always waited too. But when I read the sign today, and after that lady unknowingly cut in front of me; I noticed the sign had the arrow pointing towards the registers but it said the "line starts here". So I naturally walked to stand behind the lady who had gone in front of me. None of the employees behind the counter said anything to her, or us. But someone else came up and started to wait directly behind us as well, and then a random customer who was waiting at the normal sign scoffed at her quite rudely about where the line actually started (by the water bottles).
They should really make it more clear about where the line starts to checkout, especially if even a regular customer can get confused about it too. Small gripe, and maybe somewhat silly. But other than that this is a fantastic store.
Love checking the store out, only once in a while though because it is very expensive but when you do get an item here it is of very good quality. I have bought a variety of items including clothes, a canoe, camping supplies and snacks even and I am always satisfied with my purchases.
Attentive staff, great options, and a mission w high you can support makes REI a great place to pick up your gear without feeling guilty. Seriously, thirty staff lives what they do, and paying the premium for Woodley great which will last is totally worth it.
I like REI. I think they're a good company. This location provides all of great services and selection as the other locations I've been to across the U.S. I always have a good experience here... and the member dividend program is legit.
Every single time I go in to the co-op they treat me right. I had to come in because my gears on my brand new fat tire bike were grinding and my handle bar shaft was loose and it was making it where I didn’t want to ride it. But I had to so I could go to work. Dan was quick with getting me in and out. He didn’t even charge me for the time. This is why I’m a repeat customer. Anytime I have bike troubles I’m going to REI.
Great quality outdoors clothing and equipment. A wee bit on the high side for some items, but there's no sales tax Anchorage, and no worries about shipping. REI used to have a no questions asked Return Policy, until people took total advantage of it. They'd come to Alaska on vacation, purchase what they needed, and then return it for a refund before going back home. You really can't blame them for putting this together a stop.
I wanted to order a new mountain bike off of the website. When I tried to find my size, it said they were unavailable. They ended up having one in store. I called to see if I could place a deposit on one so I could secure one to grab it the next day. They said they don't take deposits, but I could pre-pay for the bike. I really didn't want to do that. Instead, I talked to customer support and they said they would hold it for me. If they wouldn't have done that, I would've had to wait another week for a new shipment. I was STOKED.
Just moved here so first time visiting. Signed up for their membership program. Great and fast service. Very knowledgeable on everyone's end.
Great Selection, and very kind employees. REI is just a great store in general.
If you are missing out on any hiking and camping gear on a trip to Alaska, there is an REI to the rescue in Anchorage. They have a good selection of outdoor wear and gear tailored for outdoor activities in Alaska. We stopped there to buy some rain gear and binoculars. The staff were super friendly and helpful as has always been my experience at other REIs. It was a quick in and out experience before we headed to Denali.
Although they have an incredible inventory, I wanted a down traveling blanket and thermal undergarments, they didn't have them.
This location has less floor space than other stores I've visited.
It's Alaska, prepare before you come.
Took my bike in for a gold service package and they had a one day turn around. Dan even determined that I only needed a Silver service and saved me some money. Real quality technicians and sales associates at REI. I don't know if it is the brownies or the warm weather, but REI relflects the friendliness of Anchorage. Its not about the money its about equipping you to enjoy your Alaskan adventures.
Shopping for hiking boots. Memorial day Friday. OMG, they take your cell # and page you once a spit opens up in shoes for you to be served. Biggest weekend of the year for their sales. Get there early or wait in check out line for a long time.
Staff kindness and friendliness is on another level!
Great store the largest one we have been to just alittle.low on stock just like everywhere.
Love REI!
Awesome store with awesome staff.
One of the best REIs in the country! Huge selection of outdoor gear, friendly staff, amazing garage sales all summer long. A must stop before all your alaskan wilderness adventures.
Was sort of expecting more from REI here. REI has different levels of stores and it seems like Anchorage would be a location that might be a little larger, but this one is on the smaller size. However, I was able to rent cross country skis here. It was easy to rent this equipment from REI as one would expect.
Prices are always higher than can be found at online retailers. But the staff are knowledgeable and helpful, and when buying adventure or performance gear, it's important to ensure proper fit, all of which gives this brick & mortar establishment a definite value-add.
I really liked this REI and everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, was super friendly. I had a great experience and actually regretted I wasn't able to buy more there.
They moved to a new and biggest location. I think I liked the old location better but this is purely a personal taste thing. They've got loads of products for a variety of activities and they have very good customer support/experience and very nice return policy.
Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed. Nice place, but I expected a grand selection of ski/winter jackets for men and winter skirts for women.
Their new location is great! Employees are super helpful and knowledgeable. Quality goods and the best return policy on earth.
Pretty $$$ but great quality gear. Nobody asked if we needed help with finding anything. But they seemed nice as they passed by lol. We enjoy this store.
REI Anchorage has excellent service while being clearly conscious of upholding best practices for COVID - 19 safety. Good selection of outdoor goods, knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Great place to buy anything outdoorsy. You name it, shoes, backpacks, bikes, clothes, the list goes on and on. All and all, REI is a really great business and I would definitely recommend checking them out.
Not a very large selection of fishing kayaks. REI days are the best time to come in but it is very busy. Usually can get quality stuff from here
Not quite as well stocked as the REI stores I'm used to in California, but they had exactly what I needed and service was great! Really nice to see them all the way up here in Anchorage.
What a GREAT place to pick-up a pair of Merrell shoes with Vibram soles! Awesome assistance from the sales associate and cashier!
Solid representation of the REI brand. Helpful staff, awesome products. Wish I had more money to get all geared up! But that’s my problem 😂 …
Grate place for out doors enthusiast's although most items in there inventory are top shelf and have a top shelf price tag they are a garte place to get hands on with the items you might be interested in of you have the money buy local of you don't but still want to get out side Amazon or Ebay bit still stop in they will have things you didn't know you wanted or needed trust me!
I love this place. It's great. They have a little bit over everything. The staff was friendly enough and I've always been satisfied with my purchases.
Shoe department is consistently under-staffed. I HATE having to play the "Who Can Grab a Salesperson" game. Need to have a waiting list or some such thing. At present, the pushiest customer wins, while the rest just leave
Great selection and a lot of options!
Signed up for a membership and got more off than what the cost of some hiking boots. Been back several time. The discounts with the membership are hit or miss as I don’t know what I will get discounted until I get to the register. Still trying to figure this stuff out.
Like all REI's this one is great with a wide selection of gear. The staff was knowledgeable and very helpful. A perfect place to find gear for your biking, hiking, backpacking, or camping trip.
REI's a nice clothing store. It used to cater to mountaineers and backpackers back in the 70s. Today it's a good place to pick up a $4000 bike if you're a member of the nouveau riche or buy an outfit that will clearly announce your arrival in professional society. The helpful staff will pontificate on the importance of buying a $60 yoga mat, just like Buddha used to reach enlightenment. But beatniks should be forewarned, Ginsberg's poetry is not regularly read aloud here, you'll need to beg for a GPS track to find your path.
Great outdoor store with a little bit of everything, but the prices are ridiculous. My wife and I go here to try clothes and shoes on before we order them on Amazon for half the price.
Great REI, helpful staff. Lots of options on all fronts. These guys know their stuff and are kind and helpful.
They mounted her board while we waited. They even explained how adjustments were made. We bought the boots and board there. No charge for the mounting! WOW! Thanks REI!
Great selection of high quality camping, climbing, clothing, tech, best source for Alaska suited gear. Remember that you get what you pay for. Eagerly awaiting the new store at the mall!
So I called in today to ask about snowboard binding parts because I recently acquired some that were broken. I spoke with a gentleman named Tom who told me no promises but to give it a shot. The team helped me find exactly what I needed!!! Shout out to the guy in the red shirt. You saved my day!!!
Love the new store but sadly didn't have what I wanted 😕 …
It's REI. Good gear choices, generally a well trained and informed staff, great service, and a good location. But check across the road at AMH before you spend your money here; support your local businesses.
REI is the place to go for camping/outdoor stuff. Be it running, biking, hiking, or just warm clothing. The items they sale are high quality. It is on the expensive side but the items are worth the money.
Got there just before closing looking for bike parts, and the gentleman working the service counter graciously and patiently helped us find what we needed, even though it took him 10 minutes past closing.
This is such a great store in Anchorage. I shop here with my boyfriend for our climbing gear and think the staff is so helpful and friendly.
REI is always great! Never have a problem. Having been to many REI locations, this is one of the larger ones with a really nice selection.
Great staff and lots of avid outdoorists always happy to help newcomers.
Decent selection, don't expect sales with >20% often.
Alaska is a very beautiful place for camping so this shop is one of the best in this field. You will find there all the necessary things for camping and prices are affordable.
Okay. The workers who fix the bikes do a HORRIBLE job. They accualy make my relatives bike WORSE. "Best store" HA talk about worse store in Anchorage Alaska.
The bikes there are okay but they need more than 2 styles of bikes.
REI is doing fantastic at promoting the health of their clientele! Keep up the wonderful customer service and care.
Great selection, friendly staff and clean store. My only complaint is that I often don't find the size available in the product I'm interested in.
Extremely busy now that spring is here but they had tons of employees doing the best they could and we're very helpful
Customer service is always great when I'm here. The layout is a lot better then before too.
One of the best experiences I've ever had in a store! Very knowledgeable sales staff!
Good stuff, but I cant find anything that will fit at my 6'6 size that doesnt make my stomach stick out like a football jersey in the late 80's.
Great customer service.
Great location, super helpful (but not overly "helpful") staff. We had an overall productive and enjoyable shopping experience here.
Fun, expensive products...knowledgable staff. How can you go wrong? You can find most everything you need to head outside. Watch for their sales and garage sales! They're great!!
Really nice ppl there & whatever they didn't have they told me someone may have & ask if I wanted them to hold on to items nice place they have water, outdoor and bicycle gear and other stuff there.
This place has a wonderful staff. They were very knowledgeable about the anchorage area with the questions I had in regards to gear. The prices aren’t cheap though.
Been awhile since visiting an REI and this new location is a little overwhelming. The employees are helpful and knowledgeable.
Coolest store. Very all the employees know what their talking about. I’m very glad we have an REI in Anchorage
REI has knowledgeable sales associates! They are very helpful with finding the things you need. The one thing it is hard to find parking.
Beautiful store--better layout than the flagship location in Seattle, in my opinion. Really enjoyable to visit and great staff.
Amazing store, great help.
Great prices and helpful staff! Lifetime member so this is my go to store now.
I had a fantastic experience finding shoes with Anton Clark. He was very patient with my very specific requests and his knowledge/experience expedited the process
Great store! They were also having a sale so we saved quite a bit ... :-)
Staff was super helpful.
Salesman admitted they weren't knowledgeable about subject but we're too stoned to be bothered to get someone that was
Good place for just about any outdoor needs. You can find a range of quality goods, however that does mean things get a little pricey.
They were out of everything I wanted but it's the holiday season so I want shocked or disappointed. The employees were awesome as always.

Love shopping REI. Sadly, they were short of my vanilla Honey Stinger Waffles.
Huge store with really nice staff. Rep forced me to borrow the stores bear spray because I didn't have any...didn't charge me a thing.
Great as usual. Some items out of stock due to virus, but otherwise great.
Probably the best REI I have every been to. Large selection on most gear and very helpful.
This place is huge! Also the staff was very helpful and friendly.
The staff is very helpful. Prices are high but I think that’s to be expected with REI.
I love REI and the people who work there, but the photos billed as "local" are not of the Anchorage store!!!
Staff was very helpful and friendly. Anything you could possibly need for the outdoors is readily available!
One of the smaller rei stores I've been to, but great service.
Great customer service. Super clean store.
Knowledgeable, friendly staff. Fantastic rewards program, especially worth it if you're an outdoor enthusiast.

Very polite with a lot of selection. Just were out of stock on what I came in for.
Biggest REI I have ever seen. I walked around for 10 mins before I had to ask a guy where are the clothes. Second floor, who knew.
Great shop - They have it all. Maybe a little more $$ than an other shop, but they have all the info - VERY worth the extra $.
Best REI ever! They have everything and the staff is very helpful
REI has a good Collection of stuff and there's a good coffee shop next door.
Staff is very helpful, many things in stock and I had to leave before I spent more than my allowance would let me... 😃😃😃😃😃 …
Great service, thanks for selling and servicing my road bike. I love biking here in AK.
So grateful for their never ending commitments to customer service. Unable to sing enough praises.
Stock on hand is less than usual due to supply chain issues.
This is the busiest REI I've been too. Expect to see most equipment geared for Alaska. A+.
Good outdoor store. Has most of what you need.
