I bought snowboard boots from an online shop and was having issues with the heel grip giving me blisters. I brought them into REI and they gave me wedge inserts and made sure they felt comfortable before I left the store. I needed a quick fix since I was leaving the next day for Purgatory, and because of the help from the employees I had an amazing experience on the mountain! Thank you!

Update 10/5/22: I have continued to shop here and service has been exceptional except for that one experience listed below. Updated from 2 to 4 stars to account for the mostly consistent customer service. Staff is very nice and helpful, but one of the managers is rude and doesn't follow policy. Went in to get a price adjustment per REI's policy for an in-store purchase and was told they could not do it since the item was now clearance. I was within the 14 day window, bought at full price, and with the item being 30% off now. I asked why I couldn't get the price adjustment if I could just return and re-purchase the item within those same polices and he guilt tripped me into not doing so saying "it is not in the spirit of our return policy" and what not -- he was very uppity and disingenuous -- I didn't want to use that method anyways if I could help it. I called customer service and they did the price adjustment with no problem within a couple minutes. The only problem? They only offer gift cards online instead of the original payment method. The manager (7/20/2022 @ 6:00pm MST) has placed a very sour taste in my mouth for REI.

I bought a Thule basket for my roof rack. While I was able to put the basket together, I have to admit installing it on the roof rack was beyond me. I asked for help at the service desk and met Cody. He is my hero - he installed it right then and was so nice and professional. I can't say enough about his helpfulness, other than "give him a raise, REI!" : ) This is one reason why I love REI - great team members.

My favorite outdoor gear store. Their associates are always helpful. It may be a little more expensive than other places but you get what you pay for when it involves outdoor recreation gear. Did I mention you can bring your doggies in with you? Everybody loves dogs here. 🙂

Everyone here is so helpful and kind! I was buying a gift for a rock climber and I had *no idea* what I was even looking for. I had three different employees help me with everything from chalk bags to lotion/balm to clips! On a different trip, I had an employee help me find proper hiking boots and was so patient with me while I tried a bunch of different boots and shoes on!

I had an issue with a promo that wasn't working. I told a team member, they grabbed a manager and I explained. The manager heard me out and fixed it on the spot. The customer service speaks to a great leadership team in this store. Edit:. Dropped in again looking for a watch. They're out of stock, but the older gentleman who helped us was very friendly. Edit:. Dropped in looking for a specific travel back pack. They didn't have what I wanted, but people helped me check out similar options. Great as always.

REI has a fare amount to choose from however their prices are much higher than other local stores. They may have items in stock but if its available in your size that's a hit n miss.

Outdoor gear geek paradise! REI can be pricey, but everything is top quality-- extremely important if you're relying on something while camping, hiking, skiing, biking, etc. Be sure to join the co-op. The annual dividend can be a nice amount of store credit.

I am writing a review specifically because a staff member named Steel really helped me out today by volunteering to inspect a Big Agnes 1-person backpacking tent I picked out at the garage sale section. I was walking around the store with it and they asked me what I'd found and offered to open it up and check it out before I bought it. They took everything out and inspected all the zippers, lining and stakes and gave me advice on how to clean it since it looked pretty dusty. I truly appreciate it because all sales are final on garage sale stuff. I have been searching for a 1-person UL tent in the garage sale for months!! 10/10 for customer service.

Stopped by here to shop for a sleeping bag, while traveling from out of town. The rep was very knowledgeable even though he was new hire. Went above and beyond to meet my needs and patiently answered my questions. He also sized me for a backpack. Overall didn’t feel pushed, except by the senior rep who was also assisting us. The clothing section rep was also very helpful.

Yeah, CoVid has affected us all. Sadly, REI seems to be one of the strictest businesses and this REI is no exception. The state of NM is a weird one and this location seems almost overstaffed for a change. I would give them 5 stars except for the fact that I don't like such germaphobic behavior and that while I'm there with my kids, they seem to be breathing over my shoulder, which makes me uneasy. On the other hand, I've been there when kids are unmasked and coughing profusely with a very wet, sick, sounding cough, and they've done nothing. Why the double-standard, REI? Is it all for show? But, this is a positive review, so let me get to it. I had had some very poor customer service experiences locally on this day, but this one, at REI, actually proved to be quite good. I had a convoluted return, most items were unworn, but one was, I had used my 20% off coupon on one of the items and usually, when I bring it back and reorder something else from the register, they will give me the discount again. The employee, Eric, at first, was reluctant to give it to me, but eventually realized my request was legit and I got the new item ordered. He was very pleasant, kept thanking me for my patience and it turned out to be one of the better experiences I've had with customer service here in Albuquerque, as of late. Thanks Eric! Keep offering the stellar return policy, REI, and I'll keep shopping from you!

This is a fantastic place for most if not all your outdoor needs. Went in today for running shoes and spent way too much time looking at lots of things I don't need. Bought a pair of Hoka One's. Very nice shoes. Their membership is a sweet deal with lots of perks. If you're the outdoorsy type then definitely stop in and check it out.

This location is awesome. Due to the COVID-19 jazz going on, they are a bit low of stock on certain items in the store, but online orders arrive for pickup very quickly. Within the last four months, I've shopped in store twice, and I've also had items shipped to this location for pick up twice. Every associate I interacted with was extremely polite, knowledgeable, and very social. They truly are doing the best they can to provide a great customer experience, and follow all of the protocols for our current situation. The store is clean and well organized, and there are still enough goodies to stop in and dream shop for future expeditions.

I love REI and have been a member for a few years, but every time I shop here, I am followed around and made to feel very unwelcome. Staff greet me at every corner, but before I can respond, they are scanning my hands and pockets with their eyes. I spend $100+ during each visit, and do little to draw attention to myself apart from saying hello upon entering. If the store manager could respond privately, it would be much appreciated.

The store is great but what really stood out to me, was the amazing customer service. Dang, the employees there are beyond helpful, they are knowledgeable and very polite! They were also very nice about my service dog, no trouble and they didn't distract her and that means a lot to me because she was on duty and I hate to have her bothered while in public. They made my shopping experience wonderful.

REI has always been one of favorite stores. While in some cases a specialty store will be better (a local bike shop has far more and far better options than REI, for example), it is a great store with a wide variety of gear that will serve most people well for most needs. The staff is uniformly knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful.

I have only good things to say about this store. Their return/exchange policy is hands down THE BEST. I have never had any problems returning anything and have always been greatly satisfied with the quality of their products. The yearly dividends and the frequent sales/coupons are great. Staff is also always super friendly and helpful. They have real life experiences with a lot of the stuff in the store, so they really know how a lot of their products hold up. I locked my keys in my car at this store one time when I was having a really bad day, and then my phone died, making matters worse. The store was also closing in 30 minutes, so I was pretty stressed out. I went back in and a women behind customer service was very kind to me and found me a cell phone charger and offered to let me use their store phone. I was able to get my keys back before they even closed. I have also spent hours trying on different shoes and the employees are always very informative and they actually care that I walk away in the pair of shoes that's just right for me. Thank you REI!

REI = Recreational Equipment Incorporated. REI is true to their name! They truly have an abundance of outdoor clothing and equipment. So much so you could truly camp, climb, canoe, ski, snowboard, hike, do yoga and...did i leave anything out?!? Well, you can do ANYTHING you do in style and with all the equipment you need! I found most if not all the employees are very knowledgeable in several of the activities therefore know what you need and what's the best for what you're doing. The good thing is they're human too which means they have bills too so a lot of what is recommended isn't the tippy top of the line. It's the reasonable product they use and know too so you won't get pushy sales people trying to up their commission check. They carry a wide variety of clothing and clothing sizes from xs to 3x (fewer real large sizes) and they have a children's section too! They not only carry running, hiking, climbing, and biking shoes but also casual work or going out type shoes/sandals. If you don't see it in the store just ask and they can call other stores or can get it online. If you ship to store it's FREE! I highly recommend REI and gave it 4 stars mainly because we all need room for improvement. Not to mention it's still not a local mom and pop store. We all know those are the best but next is REI!

Great gear, great return policy (ignore whiners who cry about the loss of the lifetime return policy; too many people liked to take advantage of it). They have the best quality and variety of outdoor gear in town. Prices are not the cheapest, but the expertise of the employees is top notch and worth the extra money.

The store is clean, and has a huge selection. If you can wave down a staff member, they are also generally very knowledgeable and friendly. Despite issues I've had with service Is till like to shop here because the selection is so competitive, and there are still very good deals that occur all the time That being said it is extremely difficult most of the time to wave down a staff member for help. I note that MartoMr had an issue with the shoe department, I have as well. I was so distraught about it as I waited over 30 minutes and eventually gave up - I couldn't get anyone's attention. I was outright ignored by every employee, who kept turning to help older people who came way after me. I wrote a complaint to REI and they had someone help out with trying on shoes I was interested in, and gave me a discount. I thought the response to that complaint was excellent, but the lack of available service still remains an issue a year later. For example, I tried to get a roof rack for my car there last Spring. After waiting for the only employee on that section of the floor for over 40 minutes - who was working with a customer, to be fair - I eventually gave up and purchased the rack online. I think this store may simply not have enough staff for the volume of customers they typically get, especially given the last experience I had in REI: there was only one employee working that section of the store, and it was very busy. In addition to that, the shoe department doesn't seem to have a good system to get to customers effectively and orderly. Overall, I wouldn't say REI is still a great resource for camping gear, clothing, and what have you. Their garage sale events are ridiculously awesome. However, you may struggle to find help, especially there if you're at the store during times with a mild influx of shoppers.

I always love shopping at this REI, from the garage sales to every day awesome customer service. One particular day a few weeks ago, I was having problems with some new snowboard boots not fitting quite right. Pablo and Steele (not sure about spelling) at the ski shop helped me out with some small modifications to the liner, and it made a world of difference! I'm so appreciative of their time and attention (and Pablo's valuable and unique boot fitting education). I'll be coming to see them again when it's time for my next pair.

It is difficult to find something wrong with this store with the exception of two things. And if you are a reader of my reviews, you know my policy is you lose a star for every two things I find wrong. Many people like Hoka shoes. This store stands alone as the ONLY place we found in a city with over 600,000 people who sells Hoka. But for whatever reason, they don't sell them in the store for basic black or white. Now mostly we buy here for our outdoor activities, which includes Hoka shoes. But we also want those brand of shoes for our day to day and professional job. But you cannot wear bright colored shoes to some work places. So basic black and/or white would be nice to be able to buy there instead of purchasing from the co-op store online. Secondly, I am not sure if the owners of REI know this, but not every woman is stick thin. Some women actually do bear curves and weigh more than 90 pounds. Having clothes offered in real sizes for real women would be awesome! Especially in an area where most females are shorter with rounded middles. We are still in shape, but we are not supermodels. Having said all that, this store in awesome. The staff are top notch. The place is clean and well stocked, unless you are looking for Hoka shoes in basic colors and not all neony. They also follow social distancing, the staff will go out of their way to assist you. They have great options for nearly every need for your outdoor adventures which is probably why they don't offer basic black or white in Hoka shoes, but darn it man, think of the killing they could make! LOL. Seriously, this store is incredible and so are the people. I would recommend this place every day of the week.

I’ve been a member for 23 years. Today I received a notice from USPS that my package couldn’t be delivered because shipping was due for $18.24. I called REI Albuquerque: What’s up with this?. Afie answered the call and explained that the resolution required a call to the 800 #. She explained the process and assured me the process would be painless over my reticence and doubt. She was commiserate and she was correct. Ashley answered the 800# call, she resolved the problem expeditiously. On hold less than 2 minutes any time during. REI rocks.Thank you Afie, Trisha and REI team.

Why do I shop REI? You know you are going to get quality equipment and if you don't, they have an outstanding return policy. You may pay a little more, but the upside is your gear actually lasts and if it doesn't - return it. I recommend becoming a member, too-- it's worth it for the discounts and dividends you receive all the time.

I went to the store to get assistance adjusting my backpack. I moved things around and couldn't get it to fit right. I had just finished a trip so i walked in wearing it completely loaded. Stephen immediately assisted and said it looked like the wrong size which dismayed me because I originally bought it there to get sized correctly. He measured and yes, the backpack I had was too large. Although I purchased it just over a year ago, Stephen asked his manager to approve an exchange, which he did. Then Stephen, Steel, and I spent 2 hours helping me find the right replacement. Stephen and Steel were pleasant and patient the entire time; and their knowledge and expertise was invaluable. Thank you for such a positive experience!

I went to return/exchange an item I purchased online during a closeout sale. I didn't really expect them to find the boots in a larger pair; especially during the busy holiday hours. Two employees, Matty and Toby, spent almost a half an hour calling different stores and even staying past their break to help us out. They found the boots and had them shipped with free expedited shipping to our house. I've only had excellent experiences with the friendly staff here. Thanks so much for your awesome help! It was pretty good BBQ. A little confusing when ordering they have sides in a cooler before you order your meat on the side. Staff wasn't very helpful and kind of impatient. Probably the same quality as Dickey's though, and a little more expensive. There is a neat fire pit area where they smoke their meat, and it heats the place up quite a bit. The sauce was on point though. Good BBQ joint, but better ones are around.

Best sporting goods store ever. I recently had a 4 year+ old REI brand camping bed. The air value broke and wouldn't lock anyone. The knowledgeable staff knew this was a known issue with this model and even though it was passed the time to exchange they helped because it was the right thing to do. It was a know defect on an REI branded product.

My family and I stopped in last Sunday for some camping gear for our vacation. We love REI products and know it can be costly but worth the lifetime guarantee. After we made our purchase, I went back in to return one of the items that cost a lot more than we thought because we just couldn't afford it. When I went to the customer service counter to explain the situation, the woman that helped me asked me to take her to the item's display to see my misunderstanding and apologized for the confusion. She then said it was their fault the item was incorrectly marked and would I like the item for the price we thought we'd get. We were refunded and I couldn't be more pleased. We could have afforded the item in a week and were going to come back for it but I have rarely experienced this kind of service and they will continue to have our family's loyalty as customers.

I've always had good experiences here. They stand behind their products and work to make sure you're satisfied. Only bummer is REI is expensive, but sadly you get what you pay for often times in outdoor gear, so I try to overlook prices.

REI is having a nice sale. The boots I wanted we're marked down $50 and there is 20% off any one regularly priced item that I applied to a raincoat. I also had a dividend to use, so it was a very productive trip.

Ordered a new sleeping bag from their website with free in store pickup. When I went to pick it up I had a cut on my hand and bought aqua seal bandages and a carribeaner I needed too. The snacks looked tasty.

I have been a member of REI for at least 25 years and have had nothing but great experiences. When I was in training for walking the Camino de Santiago, I bought a couple pairs of shoes that I had to return after walking some miles in them (could not really tell how they fit until I walked 5+ miles with a backpack) and there was never the slightest negative reaction when I needed a larger size. I have purchased backpacks, shoes, camping gear, snow shoes, etc.--whenever there has been a problem, they happily accept returns. Even when I can get something for less money elsewhere, I will buy it at REI because of their great sales people & service guarantee. I would be skeptical of any reviewers who said anything contrary to this.

About the only knock is the location which is right off the interstate and can be tricky to get to for new visitors or during rush hour.
