Reviews of The Butcher's Tale
Was so excited to see brunch offered. We had two of the Benedict dishes, and they were excellent. Love the atmosphere here. Excellent service with thoughtful staff. Thank you for not charging for soda water. The dd for brunch appreciates your choice. 💧🍋

Celebrated our anniversary here and we were very happy with our visit and I want to go back for drinks soon!
🤩 customer service was really great. We arrived early and they were willing to seat us. I asked one of the bartenders about their whiskey picks and he was cool about showing me the picks and how they use each one. Our server was really great as well. Overall, great service. My only recommendation is that it would have been nice for the host to recognize it was an Anniversary from the open table reservation, only because we chose to enjoy our celebration with you.
🐮 The food was delish and we didn’t even have room for dessert. We started with the Brussels sprouts as our appetizer and they were perfect for two. Our meal was the hangar steak (med well) and ribeye (med), with mashed potatoes and corn bread. Everything was phenomenal and I would order it again. The steaks were cooked as requested.
🥃 Great selection of whiskey! We started with the banana bread old fashioned. It wasn’t overly sweet or too banana forward. If we would have been able to spend more time I would have requested a whiskey flight of their picks. Overall the prices for your average pour was really good. The allocated whiskey was not priced well, and it would say while I order the R13 there really wasn’t a pour on the allocated menu worth the steep pricing. As a whiskey guy, I can appreciate a little increase in allocated pours but when the pour is almost the price of the bottle that’s a bit out of line. (This is the only reason I didn’t give 5⭐️)
I will go back, because it was a great experience and I want to try more of the picks they have with a great meal.
✅ If this was helpful, don’t forget to 👍🏼 the review. Cheers 🥃🥃
Guys. My husband and I have been looking for a quality restaurant that we could dine at and definitively say everything we ate was good for SO LONG. This was was it. Get the SPANISH OCTOPUS - I had never had octopus before and this app blew us away. It had everything - salty, sweet, sour, fresh, tender. I am still thinking about it to this day. Then, we got the Beef Long Rib, smoked for 14 hours. It literally fell off the bone. Listed at MP, it was $75 for us at the time but worth it. Here's the key to eating here: everything is shareable. The long rib was enough to fill my husband and I. All the sides were shareable as well and priced appropriately. Would definitely come back again, it's won us over!
Food was amazing. Was a little weary of the prices but the taste of the food supported those prices. The whole hog mac and cheese could have been a meal in and of itself. The Thai Caesar Salad has a nice spice to it without being too overpowering. The service was great, informed, and attentive. Must try out this restaurant.
Food was absolutely incredible. Tried multiple appetizers, sides, and meats and they all impressed me I couldn't choose a favourite! Will DEFINITELY come back. The restaurant was beautiful and clean. Our waitress and the staff that helped were so professional, friendly, and personable!
It was weird, since the pandemic began, to return to a crowded restaurant on a Saturday night. Still, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The service was excellent (though our server appeared to be working a couple tables too many).
We had a group of 6, all of whom selected different appetizers to share and different meals for themselves. I'm not a big sausage fan, but the appetizer variety of sausages was quite excellent. From the salmon to the steaks to the sides, the food was exceptional. One in our group had the wagyu steak and while it was probably the best steak they ever had, at almost 2x the price of its non-wagyu counterpart it may or may not be worth it for you.
Desserts were also excellent and everything was VERY well proportioned.
The service was excellent , the server was personable, attentive, and talked up the menu. The food was good , the sausage and whitefish stood out. The scallops were solid but not wonderful. The broccoli was doused in a salty, soy sauce which we did not find appealing. Dessert, pistachio puffs, was absolutely delightful. Seating was a bit crowded with the next tables with three feet. All in all it was a solid dining experience.
Amazing and creative food. The peanut butter and jalapeño with cotija cheese starter makes you think it's not gonna work but you get proven wrong. A nice classy place to bring your lady to if she's a carnivore. The joint serves up beef ribs like they're straight outta The Flintstones.
Fantastic meat, sides, and desserts!
We had the bulgogi sausage, which fantastically captured the Korean flavors. The whole hog Mac and cheese was smoky, meaty, and well balanced. The red hot Brussels sprouts were delicious. The spare ribs were tender and flavorful.
The service is very high class.
Wow! Such a great spot when you are in the mood for wine and meat. We love the menu, atmosphere and the service. All 5 star! Hard to beat the long rib. I also recommend the Korean sausage app. So yummy.
Thank you to Marina for an awesome evening. Some of the best service we have ever had anywhere!!
This is by far one of the best restaurants in Minnesota! From regular dining, sitting at the bar to the special bourbon dinners everything is always on point! Management is always visible and ready to assist. The long rib is definetly one of the best items I have ever eaten!
Place has a great vibe. Drinks are great. Staff are wonderful. Mains were good, but could have been a little more seasoned. Would come back for sure.
If you love Butcher & the Boar you'll love A Butchers Tale. It is a tale that opens with drinks in the Beer Garden, if the weather permits, climaxes with a delectable entree, and a delicious post script. You can journey through this book however you wish, there is no wrong turn in this pick your story adventure. My only advice is to be sure to try the peanut butter stuffed jalapeños. This oddball will delight your taste buds.
The service and food was very good and hearty! We tried the smoked jalapeños to start and a special of jalapeño cheddar sausage sliders. All of it was delicious with a hint of smokey goodness. I highly recommend the jalapeños! Next, we dove into a wedge salad before having the long rib with brussel sprouts. We ended our meal with the lemon blueberry bar (not pictured). It was so good and perfectly tart. Everything we had was cooked to perfection. For quality of food, service, and portions you’d be hard pressed to find a better meat centric restaurant in the area.
The best Moscow mule I have ever had!! There cocktails and beer garden is amazing!! I would definitely come back and try more food the hamburger was pretty good.
I LOVE this place. Formally the REAL Butcher & The Boar, The Butcher’s Tale stands alone as a top spot in the northwest corner of downtown Mpls. The dinning room is great for large parties as well as date night. I sit at the bar (as you know if you read my reviews) where the master bartenders will help you navigate the impressive bourbon list. Where do you start?!?? Must haves: the peanut butter filled jalapeños, the sausage sampler platter, and the Beef Long Rib! The patio is a well known downtown spot in the summer and one of the largest around.
I went there when it opened a bier garden on June 15. The burger was great and biers were great as well. Atmosphere and kindness (I.e., customer service) were really 👍. …
Absolutely 💯 love The Butchers Tale! Excellent service, a dining experience 👌 the food is beyond amazing, and the knowledge of the servers on pairings is appreciated. Thank you for making this a very special birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉
I was introduced to this place this past weekend by our friends that lives in the Twin Cities area. Love the food selection, the atmosphere and service was excellent. I had the beef long ribs and wow! The meat just fell off the bone! Texas toast was amazing also. If you’re a meat eater and want a cool trendy loungey place to be, gotta give this place a visit. Thoroughly enjoyed our food, dining experience, our company, and the ambience.
We celebrated a birthday at The Butcher's Tale and it was incredible. Manhattans, Old Fashion, and Martini all perfect. We started with the shrimp and then the watermelon salad. Entrees were the long rib and pork chop and holy #$@!. Both were mouth watering. The pork chop literally invoked tears.
Could be the greatest meal of my life. Not enough stars available.
We sat in bar. Loved music. Great architecture and ambience. Our server and wait staff fantastic!!! Loved our conversation with her. We got the Butcher's Tale 🤣 We are planning to come back for Wagyu special for our next birthday celebration. Scallops were supreme, watermelon wonderful! Mash mouthwatering. Broccoli bernaise Not boring. Craft cocktails Cucumber and Butcher Mule refreshing. Lovely wine Soave smooth!!! Great place to go for special event. Beer Garden awesome for lighter fare and beer! 300, Axeman highlights for us!
The beer garden at the Butcher’s tale is a true hidden gem. I’ve been here many many times so here is my review!
With its outdoor heaters, the garden is warm in the winter and cool in the summer when the walls are opened up. Dogs are allowed on the patio and the food is very affordable outside. You can get a beer, brat, and a shot for less than $20! The cocktails are reasonably priced and always taste great. This is a great place for a nice drink after work or a place to watch the game!
The inside is a little more upscale. It’s definitely a place where I would go for a special occasion or take a business client to. I’ve had the sausage platter, wedge salad, and the peanut butter jalapeños. All of which FAR exceeded my expectations! There is a large price difference between the inside and the outside but menus are available on their website if you want to take a look before you go.
The only reasons I give an overall 4/5 stars is because the garden is often closed for private events without notice (that I’ve seen) and the burgers and chicken sandwich outside used to be much better when it was the Butcher and the Boar.
Amazing restaurant. Normally I'm a beef guy, but their double cut Duroc pork chop, is one of the best tasting pieces of meat I've had.
Food was fantastic. I had the salmon and my dinner partner had the sea scallops. Both delicious. Next time we will try the steaks. Wait staff was attentive and knowledgable. It's a little crowded but not bad. However with all of the hard surfaces it can be a little loud. Four stars
We've been the the Butcher's Tale, and its predecessor the Butcher & the Boar, multiple times and have left stuffed and happy every time. Their cocktails are fantastic, and one of my favorite parts of each visit. We don't eat a lot of meat at home, and when we go out we want to make our meat consumption count, and this sure fits the bill. It's so delicious, and an excellent place to celebrate or just treat yourself.
I've also had these guys host a couple events, both a small wedding reception and a corporate dinner, and they hit it out of the park both times (clearly, I went back for more). Raleigh handled both events, and she knows what she's doing. She's so easy to work with and helpful and responsive doing what I'm sure is a stressful job. Guests have only ever raved about the food, the drinks, and the service. Definitely on the short list for another event -- their two basement rooms are so cozy and intimate and feel somewhat like you're in a speakeasy or secret club, and foster a great environment for fabulous parties.
First the service was incredible. We had a private party and the servers were just amazing. They kept track of what everyone was drinking, kept the food replenished and just were amazing. The food was excellent. Highly recommend the brussels sprouts and the sliders if you are doing catering. The sausage sampler was also amazing. Really it was all fantastic. Highly recommend.
Wow, wow, wow. The food was spectacular. We had the long bone rack, pork chop, scallops etc. I don't think you can make a bad choice here. From when you walk in the door you can tell this place is going to be awesome and it did not disappoint. We started with there specialty cocktails which we delicious. A choice for most anyone. Multiple versions of old fashions too.
The entrees and sides were delicious. Not sure how they cook the long bone rib or the pork chop but they were perfect.
For dessert, cherries jubilee was other worldly. One of the best desserts I have had in a long time.
We sat inside and it was spacious and comfortable. The outdoor space looks very nice, will be perfect this summer.
Fantastic smoked meats and other heavy treats. I had a smoked beef rib that was just enormous. Tasted good but not great, especially because the rub wasn’t applied everywhere. It had great dark bark and good rendered fat. I wish the waiter told me just how large this dish was, as I ate just about a third of it and then had to give up. Good cocktails.
What a great way to bring a classic back and at the same time blow the classic away. I was really excited to read about the returning staff. You can see and taste the impact of great people and chefs. Our waitress was a return employee and you could tell the excitement and joy she had in being back and having such a great team. My friends and I all enjoyed the food we had. List is a little long but based on what we had I don't think you can go wrong with anything you choose.
Final note - the cocktails are great. And the bartenders are willing to make modifications based on preference and those results are also amazing.
The food, atmosphere, service, & company were top tier. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to make reservations ahead of time therefore we sat at the bar; because of that, I didn't feel like I was able to really able to experience the full "vibe" & "experience" of this place... A gigantic rib where the meat is like brisket. Charred, crisp, & crunchy on the outside, soft, melt in your mouth, juicy (again more of a brisket texture) on the inside. With a sweet & spicy sauce to top it all off... YESSS!!!
The food here exceeded expectations and was the best we had while visiting Minneapolis. The service was also fantastic and super attentive. It was really an elevated experience and I would definitely put this place at the top of my list to visit again while in Minneapolis.
The food is delicious, however beware it is an expensive dinner for 2. The prices are not in proportion to the experience. One appetizer, three sides, and two steak based main dishes with tip was $275. Some sides were sized to be shareable, while others were not. The lobster/crab cake was so full of other flavors that the crab and lobster taste was lost. Doubtful that we would repeat our wedding anniversary celebration there again.
The worst part about the sausage sampler is that you're nervous the rest of the meal won't hold up... And then it does! The ribeye was absolutely perfect. Skip the strip and go for that instead.
The service is top notch.
Dings: drinks were...fine. Atmosphere is cool, but a bit cramped and a touch loud (not fun, energetic loud). Price is high, but not too high for what you get...at least it made the valet seem like a good deal. Despite all this, go here for your next big night out.
We went for a group dinner with shared plates for a couple of the courses and it was fantastic! The long rib is phenomenal.
Our waiter was the star of the show. I don't remember his name but he had an accent, a pair of tongs he would click to get everyone's attention and was an amazing story teller.
The cocktails were great and the ice cubes with the B in them looked cool.
We loved the wood fire smokey atmosphere, the food, the drinks, and the incredibly attentive and helpful staff! The only disappointment was not having enough room in our bellies to try everything on the menu.
If you are a whiskey (especially bourbon) person this is the place for you. The selection is massive and they have several "whiskey flights" if you want to try a variety without overindulging.
Been waiting a long time to come here. First time for our 3rd anniversary. Everything was out of this world delicious. Only thing for us was it was hard to hear each other as the place was pretty loud with people.
Drinks and thai Caesar were great. Long rib was almost there. Some parts were dry and the Tabasco molasses sauce needs the slaw to balance it out. Unfortunately for one of us, it has cilantro in it. This was made clear from the beginning and was found out through a very unfortunate bite. Not sure if we would have ordered it if we would have known. Server was very nice and apologized that they didn't think about the slaw when advising we could order it. We may come back but it might not be for a while. Service was great. Seating was weird being at the little tables by the bar and front door. Kinda felt like we were an afterthought even though we had a reservation.
Great food, whisky selection, and service. Definitely a must experience.
Food was outstanding and service is always on point. Only issue is that it's very noisy so it's difficult to carry on a conversation with other people you may be with.
The service is amazing 👏 I've had everything on the menu and every dish was made to perfection. Just when you think your done the dessert menu appears. Can never make up my so I get cheesecake bananas foster and the chocolate cake. …
Great atmosphere, great service (Michelle), great food. Would highly recommend this.
We had a work event in the Bourbon Room. The atmosphere, food and service was all great. Rich and Liz were there servers/bartenders. They did a fantastic job! We’ll be back.
Exceptional experience. Loved everything we ordered. Sausages, steak, brussels sprouts, mushrooms, etc. Even the jalapeño appetizer (with peanut butter of all things) was fun/tasty. Delish! Service was great too.... very attentive without hovering. The water pitcher never got below 1/2 full. Restaurant is a little noisy, but after 2+ years eating at home, I enjoyed the energy.
My husband and I had a great experience at Butchers Tale. The service was better than what we have had for a long time - very attentive, considerate, knowledgeable and kind. The food was unique and generous - taste that we have not experienced before! Very impressed and such a wonderful experience!!
This place reminds me why I adore coming up north to open minded people. It is beautiful. It is 5 star dining without a table cloth. The staff are F’N amazing and sweet and attentive. I felt safe. I was over fed with amazing food, and I had drinks that topped the charts. Thank you for making my work-caction that much better!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It was really windy and very cold when we hid out in the beer garden. Instant windows kept out the elements. Our mixed drinks were unique and delicious. I had an awesome burger and my daughter got the cheddarwurst. Brussel sprouts made the feast perfect.
We had the ribeye, strip steak, Mac n cheese, fried green onions, and the mushrooms. So so so good!! Atmosphere and service were great! Will definitely plan on coming back.
I asked the bar tender for a big steak they offered the “fajita steak” the manager told me the faijita steak was best . The bar Back told me about the steak for $125 and I tipped him. I got terrible service I’m leaving a four star review because the bar back was cool …. There’s more I can say
The food, the service and the atmosphere made for a remarkable night. I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant! We had a wonderful experience and look forward to going back again.
I don't Gove 5 stars often, but I'm 2 for 2 in MN this visit. The bourbon selection is amazing, for starters. The Steakhouse Wedge is a hearty but light app and the handmade sausage is world class. The staff also rocks.
My sister and I would like to thank the Butcher's Tale and their event planner Raleigh for an exceptional and delightful evening.
We were looking to have a party for out of town guest in conjunction with our niece’s wedding weekend. The Butchers’s Tale came recommended along with other venues. Residing in Texas and Iowa we did our vetting by phone and email. Raleigh’s professional and personable manner settled the choice of venue quite quickly for us. From there about all we did was provide a guest list (~100 guests) and a budget. Raleigh did the rest. Yes, there was some choosing of the hors d’oeuvres and decorations, but Raleigh facilitated that too.
The event truly came off without a hitch. Raleigh proved to be a as pleasant an individual in person as she was by phone and email. Her staff of bartenders and servers were not only adept, but personable. The quality of the food and drinks including many of the Butcher’s Tale’s signature items were superb. The outdoor location was ideal. The weather cooperating was a plus, though the outdoors site was covered and flexible enough that even a significant rain would not have postponed it.
I tip my hat to the Butcher’s Tale and their event planner Raleigh. They took the worry and stress out of planning such a gathering and left us to enjoy a wonderful evening with our friends and guests. I would highly recommend them should you be planning a similar event.
John
(My sister’s comments:)
Thank you, Raleigh, for all you did to make Friday night so easy for John and me and for making it so magical for our guests! We continued to get thank yous and compliments the next day at the wedding! The evening was exactly what I had envisioned! You caught that vision from MILES away and made it happen! You were such a joy to work with and so professional - from handling the business aspects to providing an outstanding venue and menu to even bartending! If we ever have another opportunity to host a party in Minneapolis, we will not hesitate to get in touch with you and The Butcher’s Tale!
Fondly,
Prissy
Outstanding food and cocktails, service was amazing.
Booked the private dining room for a business dinner. Guests loved the experience and the food. Service was wonderful. Will definitely be revisiting for future events.
Great service and great food! A great place to come back to again and again!
YES! It is still as good when it was Butcher & The Boar.
YES! They still have plenty of the items from the original menu.
YES! The Old Fashioned is still amazing.
I went here years ago when it was Butcher and the Boar. Came back tonight and the food was not disappointing by far. I would always recommend this restaurant. Great food with amazing service!!
One of the best meals of my life. The service was impeccable and cocktails were fabulous. What a great experience.
By far the best dining experience I have had in the cities. The sausages to start were amazing. The servers recommendation on how to get my steak cooked really set the tone for the meal. We ordered steaks, a few sides and a bottle of wine to celebrate my birthday. I got my steak cooked Pittsburgh and it was phenomenal! I will be back!
This was a solo trip for me. I read some great reviews on the smoked jalapeño appetizer , so I had to try it. Freaking amazing! Best app I’ve ever had. The flavor combination works so well. Then had the hanger steak, which was so tender and flavorful. Plus the cocktails were great! Definitely recommend this place!
Food: 5/5
The food was absolutely delicious. Great menu choices.
Ambiance: 5/5
Beautiful venue. Great design, from the light fixtures to the tables.
Value: 5/5
The prices are a bit higher, but the food is of excellent quality.
Service: 5/5
Our server was fantastic. She gave some great suggestions and was on point with serving our group.
Overall: 5/5
If you're in the Twin Cities and want a great meal, visit The Butcher's Tale!
What a surprise doe Father's Day Brunch. Great buffet with plenty of options for meat eaters. Not enough options for non-red meat eaters, G-free, or Lactose intolerant. But great server, Rebecca, who made our toddler feel at home. What a great way to hang with family. Cocktails truly on point - loved the Peach Margarita. Desserts were good, but sad to learn bought from Cub Food. All part of a fun brunch.
We hosted a 40th birthday party in a private room and had a fabulous experience!! The staff (Rich and Mitch) catered to our every need and took care of any minor details so we could relax and mingle with our guest. Food and drinks were delicious per usual and we have such a positive booking experience. Highly recommend!
Enjoyed the ambiance. Entered when they opened at 5pm and within 30 mins all seats were full.
Service and food were outstanding. Highly recommend the private rooms downstairs for larger parties.
Visited the 'new' beer garden. Wonderful as always and I love that they can now be open all year round.
Absolutely fantastic! Just finished out night out at The Butcher's Tale. Absolutely delicious!
Every aspect was a great experience. When I began writing this review, I was writing every detail of what we ate...but you don't really care!
What you DO care is that EVERY item we enjoyed (and there were many) was beyond delicious! The staff was amazing and the place had an energy to it. Like a place you want to be spending your money on a delicious meal! Great ambiance. People from all walks of life enjoying a night out at a place that ran like a well-oiled machine. All of our food arrived hot and absolutely delicious, and the STEAK....oh, the steak! It was SUPERB! Oh, and if you're worried about parking downtown, they have valet parking right in their parking lot! Couldn't be easier! Highly recommend!
I've recently hosted a corporate dinner at the Butcher's Tale and we had a fantastic experience. We rented one of their private rooms for our group, and everything was fantastic: the ambiance, the service, the food. The food was served family-style, and everything was beyond delicious. Raleigh was the coordinator and server, and she was impeccable both in the weeks leading up to the event and during the actual dinner. Rich was the bartender and "entertainer" for the night, and he was so gracious and fun. We would wholeheartedly recommend them.
Came in for the first time for my birthday dinner and i must say, The Butcher's Tale did not disappoint whatsoever. The appetizers were fantastic, I had the Korean BBQ Sausage and the flavors complimented each other so nicely. The Peanut Butter Jalapenos were an impressive starter that surprised both me and my husband. The Watermelon Salad was another fantastic summer dish that had complimenting flavors from the mint and cucumber to the Feta cheese. My husband had the Halibut which was nice and flakey, that went well with the beets. I had the NY strip Medium Rare and I must say that it was cooked to perfection. I could not have asked for a more perfectly cooked steak. As for side dishes, he got the Fried Green Tomatoes and they were just to die for. The Sour Cream & Chive Mash had just the right amount of seasoning to not overwhelm the main dishes. The drinks, phenominal! Super yummy and the selection of bourbons, whiskeys, Irish, Japanese and Scotch were beyond amazing. A place for much needed multiple rounds of some Blantons. Gina, our server was awesome! She made the night go smoothly and made it special for me, I cant thank her enough for taking good care of us. Bravo, Butcher's Tale! I will be back for some of those bourbons!
That may have been the best steak of my 58 years. Lindsey was awesome, fun, and engaging. If you are looking for a great meal in Minneapolis, look no further.
So happy the Patio is back open. I had one of the three "Triple B Combos" Bird, beer and a bump. The sandwich was truly one of the BEST sandwiches I've ever had.
Thanks to the entire Patio staff for doing a great TEAM job.
The home made sausage is out of this world. Our over all bill was probably higher than most because of a great bottle of wine. What can I say, we were celebrating. Will be nack
Nice space, lively atmosphere. Sausage was excellent. A few sauces were delicious. seafood items were overcooked, over seasoned, unfortunately not grilled.. mushroom dish was overly rich and altogether one-dimensional in both taste and texture. Not terrible food - but certainly falls short of the legacy,, and sorely dissatisfying for the price. I would consider exploring the menu further - however I fear that settling for "good enough" is a betrayal of striving for the greatness that such establishments with ample resources are well-capable of achieving
The food, drinks, and service were all top notch. I don’t have a single bad thing to say about our evening there. Can’t wait to go back!
Amazing culinary experience and great theatrics when presenting our 5 course meal. The food and drinks were incredible!
We had an amazing dinner celebration last night. The food, the cocktails and the service were 5 stars!!!!!
So glad they're open!
Great, lively atmosphere.
Wonderful cocktails🍹
Visited for a reception. The appetizers were great, but the waitress forgot my iced tea. Try the sausage!
Yup it's back! I used to LOVE the Butcher and the Boar and was thrilled to be able to get back to this spot. The menu has changed slightly but the overall vibe is the same. Great food, generous portions - the cocktail menu has expanded beyond the prior focus on bourbons. The mushroom side is incredible!! I do miss the lobster grilled cheese from the menu. Hopefully that reappears at some time after supply chain issues are resolved. Will most definitely be back!!
Located on the corner, it's an easy find. They offer valet parking but it cost $10. It was easy to find street parking. Got their little early so the hostess sent me at the bar which she was nice and courteous. Ended up buying a old fashioned banana bread drink which was delicious but pretty small for the amount of money I spent. The rest of the food was remarkable. The steak was cooked, superfection and melted in your mouth. The unique sausages all had very different flavors and tastes and worth a try. The brussel sprouts were seasoned well and portions were large. Service was on point and the whole experience was positive and had good energy. Really liked the cucumber drink they made, it was refreshing and unique.
I had a large event to plan with very short notice and the team at the Butcher's Tale came through for us with an amazing private dining space, delicious vegan options, and flexibility with changing numbers of attendees.
The service was fabulous and the team even put on a "show" keeping everyone entertained and excited. Not to mention the cocktails were out of this world.
I will definitely be going back to the Butcher's Tale for future events.
One of the best meals of my LIFE! The service was above and beyond (way to go Aaron) and the food was comforting as well as complex. The Minneapolis area is lucky to have a spot that does a charcuterie board like theirs and don't miss out on the Thai Caesar salad. I will also compliment the beer and wine selection as being a cut above the usual.
We went here for my son in law's birthday. Food was excellent and very well prepared. We had steaks, brussels sprouts, and mashed potatoes. Delicious!! The only negative was to see food preparers drinking beverages at their work stations. Not hygienic and probably an issue with food safety agencies
Rising from the ashes of The Butcher and The Boar, The Butcher's Tale carries over many of the same menu items that feature tremendous flavors and huge portions meant for sharing, alongside a big list of bourbons. There's more of a newfound emphasis on diversifying the menu, so more vegetable dishes are offered. Among them, the Grilled Caesar Salad is very tasty. The sweet and smokey ribs are excellent, but the Thai sausage sliders are a must, both for flavor and their huge size. I only wish this restaurant would bring back the green chorizo sausage, which was so unique and wonderful.
Went here for our 6th year wedding anniversary this evening and it was by far the best meal we have had in years! Well worth the price as the quality and experience was out of this world.
We had the charcuterie and cheese platter, seasonal watermelon salad, classic wedge salad, shared the beef tenderloin with two sides: mushrooms and brussel sprouts, and finished it off with NY cheesecake. To drink, we did the mojito mocktails. Splendid meal.
If you are into quality food, celebrating something special, and enjoy multiple course meals that every course you are saying "wow" with every bite, then The Butcher's Tale is for you.
Great food. Great atmosphere. Pricy for me but well justified in the experience.
Only had drinks at the beer garden. Super cool. Plenty warm. Check it out!
I can't believe food this good actually exists. Worth the steep price. The wait staff are not just good at serving, but they are experts at the food and drink themselves. They are friendly and add to the incredible eating and drinking experience.
INCREDIBLE SERVICE & EXPERIENCE
We visited the restaurant and after misinterpreting the site had planned on going to the beer garden with our kids. When we arrived we found out it was closed but by chance the manager was in the parking lot as we got out of the car at the Valet.
We were taken in by the manager and given a spot at a booth in the bar. Our kids had a great time and the service and good was great. I even think they ran across the street at one point to get chocolate syrup for our kids to have chocolate milk.
Definitely coming back and so happy to see the restaurant open. One of my favorites downtown!
So excited to have this restaurant back! I went to go check out the revamped Butcher's Tale with a friend last night. We sat at the bar and had great service from the bartender, Matt. He made us some great cocktails, walked us through the menu and answered all of our annoying questions in detail. The manager, Jake made sure to stop over and check in with us and see how our experience was. Atmosphere was great, everything felt safe and cozy with a little bit normalcy. I can't wait to go back and try everything I was too full for this round!
The Butcher is back! It was our first time back here in over 2 years and it exceeded expectations yet again. Amazing food, friendly/accommodating staff and a relaxing atmosphere. One of the best dining experiences you’ll find in Minneapolis.
Loved our food and bourbon drinks. Great selection for both and would highly recommend it. Bartender Jonna was amazing. Really made it a special night for our 10th anniversary ❤️. We'll be back!
Chose this place to celebrate our 10yr anniversary. Nice atmosphere, tables were a little too close per my comfort.
We tried the grilled oysters, OMG amazing. We chose the Ny Strip with Béarnaise sauce. I didn't care for the amount of sauce they put, but the steak was cooked to perfection. The Buffalo steak fries with the housemade buttermilk ranch was delicious. The whole hog mac and cheese was a miss for me, I appreciate them removing it from the bill. All in all I truly enjoyed this establishment to celebrate our special day.
My absolute favorite place ever. I dream of that long rib. Top class without being all stuffy and snooty about it. Love it.
Bottom line up front: You cannot go wrong at the Butcher's Tale in Minneapolis. We went there based on reviews and we can only say that the reviews were too modest.
Went to the Butcher's Tale in Minneapolis last night. Had good reviews, which was one factor, but also was within walking distance of the hotel where we were staying.
OK, this was advertised and reviewed as a meat restaurant. Not an Argentinian or Brazilian meat, meat and more meat place. Rather, it is an old time, you get what you ordered restaurant. So, before we get to their meat, I ordered a Black Russian. After I stirred it a bit, it was very good, just the right proportions of vodka and Kahlua.
So now we move to the menu. The wife and I agreed on the jalapeno sausage as an appetizer. it fell into the category of chorizo, a little spicy but not overbearing. The added jalapenos were spicy enough, more than I expected in Minnesota. Well worth ordering as the appetizer.
Next came the main course. I had the New York center cut. I ordered it medium+ with a pink center. It arrived just like I ordered it. It melted in my mouth and was just what I had hoped it would be. If you want a steak and are in the area, I can recommend this place without reservation.
My wife ordered the pork ribs. She was amazed. They tasted wonderful and I could not talk to her for twenty minutes because her mouth was full and she was busy eating. Only after she stopped to take a breath was she able to praise the pork ribs to high heaven. Again, recommend this place for pork ribs.
There was a lot of meat on both plates. I was just able to finish my steak. The wife ate her ribs only to find that there was a second floor of ribs underneath. We took a box of these home because we did not have the ability to finish them.
No room for desert (which, for me, is really saying something).
Now for the service, They were there when you wanted them and not there when you didn't. Tiffany was our server and handled everything with perfection. However, she was outdone by the other guys supporting her. They filled the water glasses without asking (a big point for me), bussed the empty plates at the right time and helped bring the dishes when they were ready.
Overall, this was a great experience.
The only thing I regret about this place was that I got so busy eating, I forgot to take a picture or two. Don't make my mistake.
From start to finish the private dining experience was best in class.
We had a great dining experience! The food was excellent and the service was exceptional as well. Your front staff and servers are welcoming. I love the grilled octopus appetizer and sausage samplers! Very well executed.
A very nice place for dinner. Prices are a bit on the high end, 1 of the 4 steaks ordered was cooked as it should have been. The others were all wrong. Service was outstanding!
If you are looking for a awesome steak and great cocktails. This is the place! Food and service was awesome! Michelle our server really took care of us. Will definitely visit this place again next time we are in town. Pauline and Travis NYC.
Amazing food and good service. The bsr is great too. I’d only suggest to improve ventilation, or seat far from the kitchen - if you seat near the kitchen/ grill you’ll get some smoke smell ok your clothes afterwards
The food was 4 star, the service was 2 star.
Update as of 11/2: The manager personally called backChad is a class act. We look forward to visiting again.
10/29: Our family had some amazing experiences and memories at this place. We were one of the first ones back after the shut downs when this place reopened. This time, we were made to wait 15+ minutes beyond our reservation. We encountered two condescending hosts, who thought answering basic questions were beneath them. The manager, to his credit, did come out and greet us once. Apparently the earlier party paid off but stayed beyond, and seemed like no one could do anything about it. No one could give us a ETA and the kitchen would have closed in less that an hour. So we left.
The most courteous person was the valet guy - he was amazing, and actually apologized, and tried to save the day. I don’t know his name - but thank you for your politeness.
Wow! Huge delicious portions of smoked meat and steaks. What did you expect with this name? It’s epic - try the long rib if you want to feel like you’re eating a T-Rex leg
Had a wonderful private event for 18 diners. They took care of every detail so I could just enjoy the evening. Food was fantastic, service even better. Highly recommend.
Love this place. So glad it came back after covid. it's a little pricey but great bar tenders and spirits selection. Food was amazing as always. Definitely recommend.
Fantastic anniversary dinner. Excellent drinks and perfectly cooked ribeye special.
Private dining experience for team holiday dinner, it was great!
So here's the deal with this restaurant... each item was very good and was very 'high class' and fancy and I'm sure their ingredients are the best of the best. What seemed a little weird to me is that, because everything is a la carte, my meal wound up being unbalanced. I had fish and then we had some broccoli and some mushrooms and potatoes and each thing was tasty but the pieces of the meal didn't compliment each other. And it's quite spendy. So, I mean it is good food but I wasn't, like, "oh my gosh, best meal ever!". I was just kinda like "huh, interesting". The service was very good, I will say that!
Impressive...service was top notch. Food was excellent. Pork chop, smoked pork & cheddar sauasage (app), scallops all wonderful but the Red Hot Brussel sprouts were a "must have"! Oh yah I'll be back. Manhattan=9.👍 …
This place was great. I was with a group of 4 business peers. We ordered the wedge salad, watermelon salad, smoked PB jalapeños, Mac and cheese, Brussel sprouts, long beef rib, pork ribs, and NY strip. Everything was perfect. And the service by the staff was impeccable. Lively environment, great drink options- they’ve got it all figured out.
The food was amazing, the staff was attentive and fun was had by all. It was hopping on a Friday night. Easy parking nearby. Great patio area outside.
Mary was our server-she was an absolute gem! Describing the food and cocktails to perfection. We had a ridiculously wonderful experience. Our table had oysters, jalapeño appetizer (🔥) broccolini, mushrooms, Mac n cheese, veal chop, salmon, beef loin and the pork chop(🔥). All were absolutely exquisite!! The pork chop was what I had and I have never had a better one in my life! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! We had apps and cocktails at the beer garden before hand which were all perfection as well. Top notch service from beginning to end from servers to bartenders to food runners to bussers. WONDERFUL experience and we will DEFINITELY be back! If you’re thinking of going-go-you will not be disappointed! Thank you, Mary, and all at Butcher’s Tale for a perfect dinner out!
Incredible experience. Attentive service. Delicious food and drinks from start to finish. Update: Just returned from my second visit and everything was as good as I remembered.
The food and drinks were great as always but most importantly to my fellow old B&B regulars THE STAFF ARE BACK! They really bring the magic and make this place what it is and I’m so glad to see their faces. Do a trust fall and get an old fashioned with the bartenders choice of whiskey and you won’t be disappointed.
Fantastic food and fun cocktails. Their menu is costly, but everything we tried was amazing aside from the Texas Toast which was alright and their mule which tasted too much like vodka as their ginger beer is very weak.
Incredible restaurant. Best old fashioned I’ve ever had. And don’t miss the Waguu Beef sausage! The beef long rib was amazing.
This place was absolutely amazing. The staff were friendly, the interior was beautiful and the food was phenomenal.
Pricey but so good! Charcuterie plate was delicious. Sausage sampler included the most interesting and complex flavors I've ever had in a sausage sampler(bulgogi; jalapeño; kimchi).
Great food and service all around; experience was amazing! Thank you! Bourbon Room in lower level is a perfect place to host a small dinner party!
Food was tremendous and delicious. Service quality was impeccable. Servers were knowledgeable and helpful. Everything was cooked perfectly, highly reccomend the octopus. One of the best meals I have ever eaten.
A wonderful restaurant that we loved before as the original. Thanks for an amazing meal and service. We loved it. I had a great birthday dinner! Kudos to the superb staff too! Thanks so much.
Try the sausage! it is so good. I love coming here with the fam
It was a private party for my cousin and the wait staff was amazing at making sure my daughter and I had a safe Gluten free meal. Food and drink was awesome as well
What a great venue! Staff was awesome and so was the food!
Awesome. That's all I can say. Get the potatoes, not the Mac n cheese.
Phenomenal steak, great drinks and really lovely staff
The drinks were good, our steaks cooked perfect and the service was great. It's just a little too loud and crowded.
Our server was very friendly. Mostly steak place. Drinks were good. Our party liked everything about it. Tried the oysters and shrimp to start.
I am so happy this place is back, even under a different name. The Oysters and Scallops were out of this world, and the hanger Steak was great as well. A real Minneapolis institution, thank goodness is was not lost.
Great traditional old fashioneds and wine list. Loved the Iowa ribs. Solid dessert menu.
From the cocktails to dessert, The Butcher's Tail is absolutely delicious! Highly recommended!
Fantastic from beginning to end! Cute outdoor beer garden, a nice space indoors, and a big bar. Also noticed some larger tables for groups that I’ll be taking advantage of in the future. Would definitely recommend!
Great space, top-notch service and wonderful food! We will be back!
Arguably the best steak I've had anywhere. Amazing service
Food was delicious! Service was top notch. 👌
Fantastic cocktails, even though you're practically paying for a fancy ice cube. Ahi Tuna was flat and lacking. Waygu Ribeye made up for it though...out of this world. Service and wait staff were stellar.
We brought clients in for an amazing dinner in the private Bourbon Room. The food was delicious and the service impeccable.
One of the best steaks I’ve had in my entire life.
Great service and food. The brussels sprouts are phenomenal!
Great food, drinks, steak, and service. Definitely worth making a night of.
If I could give it 10 stars I would. If I'm going to Minneapolis then I'm going here. One of the best restaurants anywhere.
My favorite spot. Go there every year for son birthday. Was mad that you all didn't my pork skins. I liked the old menu.
Excellent food and cocktails, great service, but very loud, and more importantly very overcrowded. The tables were incredibly close together, we were no more than two feet from people at the next table on both sides.
Just like it was before with amazing food and meats and everything. Sausage sampler , charcuterie, pork chop, beef rib all were amazing. Favorite dessert was the pistachio cream puff
Literally, one of the best restaurants I've been to in my life. The beef long rib is amazing. The sides are tasty and the service is awesome. 5 stars all the way.
Sausage platter was really good. Server was great!
One of the best dinners I’ve had in a long time. Will be back!
Best fine dining experience yet in mpls 50x better then spoon and stable ! The butcher tale ambiance staff and food cannot be replicated !
Visited with family and got the long rib, sweetbreads, potatoes, watermelon salad, and swordfish as well as some cocktails. A great place for sharing plates! The long rib was amazing, highly recommend!
Fantastic food and drink!
Wow the food here is good! Shout out to the mushroom side and Mac and cheese. Expensive, but service and quality are top notch.
Everything (but the bill) was GREAT!
The desserts are worth the bill...
Absolutely incredible. The menu is full of delicious food and drinks. Service is top notch as well. Arguably the best restaurant experience MSP has to offer.
We had a great experience in the Bourbon room with Rich and Raleigh! Amazing service!
Delicious Food! Great Service! We visited for my recent birthday and had such a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back for another visit soon!
Wow, the food was outstanding and the service excellent. I highly recommend giving this place a try.
Overall an absolutely amazing experience. Service was top notch on both the wait and assist staff. Word of advice is not to let your eyes outweigh your stomach. We came home with bags of food 🤣
Not the same as the old Butcher. Pretty underwhelming steak and sides. They're charging 5 star prices for 3 star food.
Our server's name was Allen and his attention to the table was as excellent as the drinks (and nachos). Highly recommend Butcher's Tale for a for night out.
Steaks were fantastic, as was the long rib, and the sausages.
The Australian Waygu was DEFINITELY worth the price, this was a great experience and amazing food. Thanks for an awesome New Years!
Great service with an awesome bar selection. Wish the menu had a better assortment of entrées, but the hanger steak i had was glcooked very well.
We had the long rib and drinks, it was amazing. Great bar service, and as good as when it was the Butcher and the Boar. Loved the experience.
Service was absolutely amazing. Gina was attentive and friendly. The food is exquisite. Aussie Wagyu ribeye is a must try. Highly recommend!
I didn't love the decor it just didn't match the prices but the food was delicious and I will definitely be returning.
Nice environment. The food is ok. The aroma throughout the restaurant is quite pleasant. Bring a friend who might be visiting from out of town.
Easily the best steak I've ever had. And peanut butter jalapenos??? WHAT?!! so amazing. Will definitely be back.
If you want to have some Awesome grilled meat, this is the place! Also their Old Fashion are Fabulous!
The Staff was friendly and well informed. All Chapters had great eats. Very nice atmosphere.
Private Party, awesome food, cocktails and service!!!!
Great food. Improved wine list. Whiskey list isn't as good as it was previously but is slowly getting better.
Delicious!
Amazing. So happy that the butcher and the boar wasn't gone forever. Everything is great, but the long rib is your best bet. So good.
Amazing service and food. The Bourbon room in basement is great for a small dinner party.
Obnoxiously loud atmosphere, heavily salted meats. and a bar that ran out out of Weller bourbon. I never had a better time. No, truly.
I will never forget this experience. You need to try it by yourself, at least one time in your life!!!
I went here for visiting its beer garden. It was 👍😊. Will come again with my family later! …
The beer garden is great, food was also good large portions
Good food. Tommy was an excellent server. Tables are very close together.
Great food, service was spectacular
Best Food! The staff and atmosphere are great. Definitely go!!
Some of the best food I've ever tasted! Staff was really friendly. It was all around a great experience! 👍
The food, beverages, and service for our private event were outstanding.
large options, great sausage, fries, beer
Fantastic for and amazing service. We were there for a dinner meeting with a vendor. The experience was perfect
Delicious food creative yet still wholesome, great atmosphere, easy going staff and plenty of parking
Great food and wonderful cocktails!!
This place was really good! Apps and halibut were both incredible!
This might be the best restaurant in the Twin Cities right now...no exaggeration.
Great dinner, this is the classic twin cities restaurant for meat eaters
The Niman Ranch Prime Ribeye Steak is the BEST Steak I have ever tasted !! 5 Stars
Everyone had rave reviews and had a wonderful time. I can't thank you enough!!
Excellent dining experience. In my top five ever list!
Great food, great service, a nice atmosphere. Valet parking was available for $10.
Delicious but very expensive!
Great food and great environment!!! Definitely recommend it and we'll be back again soon!
Superb service and fabulous food.
Beautiful new branding along with amazing updated menu. An excellent mix of old and new.
Great service. Food was divine.
Please bury me in the Beer Garden when I die so I never have to leave again.
Salad was way overdressed....portion sizes small for the price....but the service was impeccable!
Pretty expensive for what you get, the cocktails were better than the food.
The best thing I had in a while is their cherries jubilee😋 …
Great food, great atmosphere, great staff. 10/10.
Spiritual successor to "Butcher and the Boar" is good, but they'll never be the original.
I'm so glad it's back! Great food and worth the money!
best food I'm the whole metro.
Delicious food, great patio, great service! Butcher's is back!
Great date place
Food and drinks are delicious! Service was great!!
Meat and meat. Beautiful new updates. First rate service. Welcome back.
Good food, a bit affected

Loved the food and ambience.
Great place to eat while we were in town
Fantastic new take on the steak house experience.

Excellent. Everything about it.
Very much like the old Butcher and Boar, but stepped-up a notch.
Excellent service.

Tasty food but way too salty
Great good, great atmosphere!

Great food and service.
The Fried Chicken Sandwich is to die for
Wonderful service with Daniel.
Great ribeye
nice ambiance
Phenomenal
Amazing
I went here for a work dinner. Warning, this place is really expensive. That said, right out of the gate the service was impeccable. Our server was extremely nice and helpful and gave me several excellent suggestions. Now the food. I am practically salivating at the thought of it. The sausage sampler plate with 3 different types of sausage was amazing. Who knew spicy sausage with kimchi would taste so good. My entree was the filet and was cooked a perfect medium rare. Every bite was an experience. I was able to sample several sides as well and all of them were good. I especially liked the cornbread and brussel sprouts. They also make a mean old fashion. If you are looking for fancy steak night out I highly recommend checking this place out. Amazing all around.
I had the Minnesota prime rib steak, and it was 100% the best steak I have ever eaten. The whiskey selection is fantastic, and I had a great time tasting some of them.
The charcuterie board appetizer was fantastic, and I am greatly looking forward to coming again to taste some of their sausage selection.
If you are not a huge fan of brussel sprouts, then I implore you to try theirs. Simply amazing how they got so many crispy, tender, perfectly browned layers on each sprout.
This is a premium dining experience for sure. Do not expect to spend less than $100 per person if you want an appetizer, a good steak, and some nice whiskey.
We had a party of 15 and to my surprise the food came out on a timely manner. I had the sampler platter and my partner had the beef long ribs, both were delicious and well cooked. There is valet parking but I had to park a block away in one of those frigid winter evenings in Minnesota. That was the only drawback. Overall, a 5 star for food and service.
Went for Sunday Brunch. It was so delicious! Those cheesy hashbrowns and fried green tomato egg benedict were so tasty. Our server Aaron was AWESOME! I will definitely go back to check out dinner. 😋
You will not be disappointed. Wine, steaks, atmosphere, location, table of friends or family. Make it a special occasion dinner!!
fantastic appetizers, steak was flavorful and tender, great atmosphere
Good was excellent and our crew enjoyed their dinner at the Butchers tale
Delicious food. Trendy atmosphere. Excellent service.
Fun Drinks
We hosted a party of 33 guests at the Butcher's Tale and had a wonderful experience. Food was exceptional, booking the party was very easy and all of our requests were taken care of. Anyone looking to plan a large event can rest assured that the team at the Butcher's Tale has the capabilities of hosting a first-class event for very discerning guests!
A5 Wagyu ribeye.
