Reviews of Clancey's Meats & Fish
David Wolfe
Wonderful find, needed leg of lamb, picked up duck. Super fan, just fabulous. Checked off the bucket list, cook duck and do it well. I looked in the meat counter, I would have eaten a couple aged beef fillets like apples, they presented so beautifully. This place is special.

This bread is soooooo goooooood! Love their sandwiches. A tad bit on the expensive side, but great vibe for dates, business lunches and meet-ups with friends. Trendy and hipster-ish. I found it odd that you need to ask for cups of water, but other than that, there are only things to love.
Some of their more popular sandwiches like the turkey are pre-made. They do have a disclaimer that they may run out of bread around 1pm. So get in there early!
Mursin
Got their turkey sammich just after Thanksgiving. They immediately memorized my name and treated me like a neighbor. Plus they have turkey necks which, while a staple In the south for beans and soup, is a miracle In the Midwest
This is what a neighborhood meat market and deli should be!

A wonderful little jewel for the neighborhood, it offers a bit of everything. Staples like local eggs and butter, fresh meats, crafted sausages, cheese, fresh grab-n-go goodies, and lots of interesting and delicious pantry items, many things from local producers. Then there’s the fantastic freshly made sandwiches. Their pastrami is hands down the best sandwich in the Twin Cities. Fun variety of cold drinks, chips and sides. Oh, and the pecan caramel rolls are awesome. Visiting Clancy’s is a must on every foodies list.

My favorite New York experience occurred by chance after a day of wandering around the city. Tired and hungry, my then girlfriend and I agreed we couldn’t wait hours to find another chic dinner establishment. Hey look, how about grabbing a sandwich at that little deli over there? Long story short, we happened into internationally famed Katz’s Deli and enjoyed a quintessential New York experience we’ll remember for the rest of our lives. And it was just sandwiches. But it was more than that. Not only were the sandwiches as big as my head, but to get them we had to navigate Katz’s particular service system — waiting in line, getting a ticket, finding a table, getting in a sandwich line, ordering from a butcher, sampling from the butcher while not being too indecisive to incur the butcher’s wrath, to finally eating our sandwiches in elbow-bumping proximity to other Katz customers who interjected their own conversations into ours as if we were recognized neighbors.
It was all a beautiful cacophonic slice of New York life we were fortunate to experience. Even the sticker shock when I paid my ticket. My budget then was a little tight, but my girlfriend put into perspective the price was on par with our vacation’s high-end dining experiences, with a notably greater portion-sized meal combined with the interpersonal New York experience. In perspective it was worth every penny and more.
Now post-vaccinated, a pilgrimage to Katz’s Deli seemed like a needed trip to clear post-pandemic cobwebs from my soul. However, my frugal synapses argued that airfare, hotel and other incidental costs made this a ridiculous luncheon luxury, even on my current healthy budget. Further, my thrifty braincepters remembered, Katz’s shipped their meats internationally. For a fraction of the cost I could wait a couple days and get all the pastrami makings sent to my home. Still, I’d have to wait a few days. That’s when the impatient-thalamus brain center overruled everyone and reminded me I could just go to Clancey’s Meats in Linden Hills.
Does Clancey’s make great pastrami (and corned beef, roast beef, roast turkey and more) sandwiches? They do. Are they just like the New York style deli sandwiches? They’re not. They’re not even close. And that’s what is so great about Clancey’s. They don’t try to be anyone else. If you go to Clancey’s you’re going to get a great Clancey’s experience that is different from other places you’ve been before.
Clancey’s is just a deli counter for take-out orders. No seats or tables, and maybe you’ll be bumping into other masked customers in the tight space limited to four people at a time. Their friendly staff does their best to serve you, which means you may be asked if you’ve been helped by several different individuals who are also answering phones, stocking the window, cutting meat and bagging purchases. It’s slightly confusing, but in a quirky Twin Cities way, not like a high-pressure NY deli.
While you’re waiting, browse the refrigerator and the entire meat counter for meat beyond sandwich fixings. Don’t let their prices give you sticker shock. I’ve showed up at many BBQs with Clancey’s brats and sausage that sparked rave reviews. And friends related similar stories of making a special breakfast with Clancy’s bacon that became worthy of family folklore when departed children recalled the exceptional flavor years afterward upon their return.
Create an experience. Get your sandwich and enjoy it by the Lake Harriet bandshell. But plan ahead for your sandwich order. As noted on their website, their bread supplies usually last until 1:30. During my last visit in early afternoon, the sandwich maker informed me the sandwich would be made from two separate crusty loafs of break to make the complete size. No matter how they slice it, Clancey’s sandwiches are worth going out of your way and paying a few dollars more for a unique Twin City experience. What price are you willing to pay to someone who serves you a quintessential memory?

Just tried the new breakfast sandwich...LOADED with 2 eggs and choice of house made breakfast sausage or tender sliced ham on a milk bun! And chopped up relish that Kristen, the owner, makes and she knows her flavors! Superb...
Jordan Bailes
Delicious breakfast sandwiches and caramel rolls (they even let me choose a middle piece!). They were the perfect sizes that we left feeling comfortably full, and the staff is incredibly helpful and fun.
Gail Bronner
Busy and pricey place with a deli, of sorts and sandwiches and chili to go or eat there. The sandwiches feature various meats and an abundant list of ingredients (from mayonnaise to roasted red peppers.
Banle Gaar
Hadn't been here in ages and today felt like a sandwich day and I've been looking for a good corn beef sandwich. Ordered it and looked at the huge selection of meats, cheese, side dishes, eggs, milk, etc. Each customer that came in was greeted by name. The owner asked me for my name and then her mother actually came in and was introduced to her as well. Great sandwich, pleasantly full. Great simple baguette, fresh lettuce, mayo and my mouth still tastes of nice onions.
Peter Maritz
Love this place! Fantastic meats. Amazing sandwiches. Best place for demi glace, duck fat, etc.
Michelle Mausi Cohen
Always a kind, welcoming experience, and the best meats! The sandwiches just make me so very happy. You have to go!
Evan Decker
We stopped here for lunch and both got the roast turkey sandwich. It was honestly one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. The shop has an intimate, small town feel as well! I highly recommend it - we'll definitely be back!
Andrew Schrader
Terrific meat, great service. They've got the classics and some less common offerings as well, and everything I've had has been delicious. A great place to go for meat!
David Pacheco
My son who lives around the corner RAVES about this place. Today was my turn. Sandwiches, are NEXT LEVEL. This place is what every neighborhood in America should have, the world would be a happier place. EAT LOCAL! Absolutely phenomenal! Can't wait to go back to try allllll the FRESH SAUSAGES....Steaks...what a gem!
Nicole Nicole
All around wholesome place. Great owner great workers great diverse people.
Jada Olsen
LOVE this place! if i need a good cut of meat, i always go here. and did i mention they have the best sandwiches EVER? when i can, i have to get the roast turkey sandwich. glad to have a spot like this in the neighborhood.
David Speidel
Delicious sandwiches and a welcoming and helpful staff that offers a very neighborhood shop feel. I cannot wait to go back again.
Lara Dietrich
Pro tip: whatever your reason for stopping at Clancey's, be sure to order a sandwich! They sell out daily, so come early. And come hungry - one lunch sandwich feeds two!
Amy Workman
They have leaf lard! Staff is top notch. Knowledgeable and friendly. Lots of frozen items like soups and sides. Good selection of staples. Everything you'd need on the way to a cook out. The meats are incredible. If you need a brat, a sausage, or a steak and want to treat yourself, this is the place. Prices were still great though.
Roshan Rajkumar
Went in to pick up a gift certificate, and was greeted by the staff kindly and quickly. Christine explained Clancey's old school gift certificate process, but that it's worth every penny. I noted the great selection of farm-to-butcher-table rib eye, pork shoulder, in-house ground sausages, and specialty cheeses and condiments. I was offered a sample of Sport-Tea, which was both refreshing and tasty. And loved how all prices were clearly marked and descriptions of meats was present. I cannot wait to go back for meats to grill or cook.
Amy Lippert
We recently moved here from Texas and searched for months for a great butcher to get high quality cuts of meat and fresh seafood. The selection and custom cuts we have gotten have been the best meals we have eaten and you cannot beat their sandwiches! My husband, who happens to be a sandwich connoisseur, said that their sandwiches are one of the best he’s ever had. They are overstuffed, the bread is perfectly crusty and soft, and is one of the top 5 sandwich shops he’s ever been to, and we’ve lived all over the world and he traveled for over a decade for work.
Their customer service is on par with their high quality food...just the best. Despite the busy and stressful holiday season Kristen took the time to make my order a priority. I had just missed the last of the short ribs and she went above and beyond and went to the farm and got more! This level of dedication and customer service guaranteed our holiday dinner was saved!
You owe it to your tastebuds to grab some sandwiches, steaks and seafood ASAP and support a local gem!
Christian Wilkie
Clancey's has been my favorite all-around shop for a very long time. I love seeing the diverse range of locally sourced groceries, I look forward to the extras Kristen finds (like Cackalacky Sauce from NC, which goes on nearly anything), and all my grilling needs are met here. I appreciate the enthusiasm and pride the staff show in their job, showing off a special cut that's arrived or discussing preparation ideas. Follow their Instagram account to get a tip on what amazing sandwiches or soups they're making. This is just the best place.
Michael Calhoun
Sandwich here is off the chain. Best in the TC area IMHO. Do yourself a favor and get there early cause they sell out
Pita Loopa
Absolutely my favorite place for meats, beets, eggs, and sandwiches! Super friendly and helpful staff. I no longer live near by, but will stop in every time I'm in the area.
elliot ginsburg
One of my favorite places to go - the quality, selection, and staff are excellent. They have easily the best sandwiches - the regular offerings are great and the specials are usually unique and excellent; nobody is doing what they do. They have their own creative soups, sausages, etc. and their frozen soups are a life saver in the winter. If you haven't been, you're missing out. Truly a neighborhood gem.
Katlyn Abbott
Kristin and her team made the most beautiful charcuterie trays for my daughter’s birthday. Highly recommend them for that and of course their sandwiches, meats and great selection of gourmet goods!
Atticus Pomerantz
My new favorite store. Beautiful meat, amazing sandwich, friendly folks. I have been twice in one week and will be back many times in the future :~)
Mark Kraus
I had the roast beef sandwich and it was excellent!
Michael Langseth
You won’t find a better sandwich or meat counter in Minneapolis.
Linda Stacey
The most amazing corned beef sandwich. NOT TO BE MISSED!!!!! All meat is grass fed. All ingredients are locally sourced. Corned beef is boiled that morning. Bread from patisserie which is the best French bread in town. Don’t miss this sandwich!!!!! And say YES when they ask you if you want everything on it. There’s just a slight kick that makes it special. Just trust. Best corned beef sandwich I’ve had and I’ve been all over New York.
Lex Talionis
Sandwiches are probably the best in town. If I had to compare the two, I'd say theirs is better than Lowry Hills Meats, which is in my neighborhood so I wind up going there more often and I also love. That said, Clancey's has more attention to detail--the bread they use is better (a soft baguette rather than a filone, which has a rigid top crust that will cut your mouth like none other), the sauces they use are homemade and knock the sandwiches out of the park, and the meat is--well, high-end meats that you can find at any butcher shop worth a damn. The problem with Clancey's is that there's no room to eat the sandwiches, so they're necessarily to-go, which in summer time usually isn't a problem in Linden Hills because there are plenty of open-air places to eat, with Lake Harriet a block away and tons of other local places, including seating in front of Great Harvest. One other potential problem is that the sandwiches will sell out (which really isn't a problem but a testament to how good they are and how the proprietor cuts down on waste). A++
Mike Matuska
First off I like to try and shop at ma and pa type stores, I drive out of my way and about 35 min to get here. Clean shop, always top notch anything, local meats, had my first sandwich today and was delicious(top 3 best I've had )kristen always seems to be smiling, just come stand in line, she seems to know eveyone by name( literally like cheers it's awesome! ). Which is why I don't think I'll go anywhere else. I'm so glad I found this place. You will not be disappointed
Christopher Johnson
Please be aware they are a small shop with high demand and small staff! Will try to help everyone, but may have to wait as they are busy. Local meats cut to order, small deli selection along with fun things like local produce, and the best sandwiches in town!
Jay Dillon
I've been a customer of Clancey's for many years and I was curious to see how they could receive any rating less than 5 stars - in my opinion they are one of the finest businesses I've ever encountered. Most of the <5 star reviews seem to not understand their business model. I get the sense that Clancey's doesn't start with a retail price in mind and then work backwards to provide that to their clients. They talk with their suppliers to understand the best quality they can get and then they review their operations and understand what it actually costs to run a small business, then they determine what they need to charge. If you want a cheaper sandwich or pork chop, it's quite easy to find in the area but that is not what Clancey's is, it's the best product in the best location with the best service for a price that (hopefully) wont put them out of business. Cheers to Kristin and her team for looking out for us, I'm proud to show my friends her business and I hope her and her team continues the good fight! Thank you for continuing to bring us the best quality products.

Awesome place. Went here for the first time last weekend and I'm hooked. Kristen is awesome and the meat selection + quality are top notch. I think this place ruined grocery store meat for me. You can tell just by the way it looks that this stuff is raised better than "organic" factory farmed meat at costco.
Raymond Grove
I seriously love this place. Awesome product and amazing service. To illustrate that point I make the effort to drive from Chaska to get my favorite proteins(goat especially!) when I am doing something for people and I don't want to worry about the quality. They also have a ton of other great hard to find produce that makes it well worth the trip!
Robert Powell
After hearing tons of positive reviews we decided to see what this place was all about! I'm happy to say this place far exceeded expectations! We chose a crazy busy day (New Years eve) to stop in and despite the crammed entry each worker took time to greet us and answer our questions and do the same for the floods of people who walked in behind us. The customer service here is top notch and the selection of meets and cheeses is hard to beat! I'll be back for sure!
Cassie Meyer
Clancy has great sandwiches for lunch and their meat and cheese is incredible - at a pretty good price point. It's super simple to call ahead and order to pick up without much of a wait.
Jenna Kuiken
Growing up in northern MN, I've always felt spoiled by the butcher shops there. Moving here I didn't think I'd find anything that came close to the shops back home. This place is amazing! Always the friendliest of service and they take time to answer any questions. Love the goat and lamb I've tried from here!
Aaron Dalrymple
This place is a gem! Fresh meats, dairy, salads, fish, etc. I asked an employee about their beef supplier and got a 10 minute explanation of where the beef is sourced (locally), what it eats, how often they get deliveries, etc. Try that at a big store chain!
However, the best thing about this place are the deli sandwiches! No room to sit down inside. So head over, grab a sammy and then walk down the hill to Lake Harriet for a picnic.
Jeffrey Wright
A great neighborhood butcher and sandwich shop. Homemade sausages, specialty products and great quality local meats.
Highly recommended
Ben Finkelstein
This place is straight dope. Everyone knows they have the best sammies in town, but what really sets them apart is their knowledgeable, friendly, and kind staff. They'll sort you out: whether you're trying to impress your in-laws with a fancy roast, looking for something funky to throw on the grill, or just need a farm-fresh chicken breast for your boring weeknight dinner. They're busy for a reason, yo.
Larry Nielsen
A neighborhood meat market doing a lot of their own butchering. The meat is of excellent quality and does not get wrapped until you select it. It's a small place so a bit of a struggle to stand. Great place.
MN Old Man
These folks know what they're doing. Amazing artisan sausages and less common cuts of meats. Quality, quality, quality. Staff was friendly and accommodating.
Parking is a hassle but worth the effort.
Judy M.
Clancey's saves me every time. If I don't know what to serve for dinner, I go to Clancey's and always find both fresh meat and fish of the highest quality AND frozen items that never fail to please (I adore their meatloaf and soups -- hearty, flavorful, bold). I know when I get it at Clancey's, it's going to be special. For example their in-house croutons - liberally tossed with olive oil and then toasted, delicious). Local in-season produce, pickled delights, regional beef jerkey, bread, deli sandwiches, etc. Plus all the staff is helpful and personable. Sometimes I ask for advice on preparing meats, and Clancey's always comes through.
Richard Gray
Clancey's is a gem! They have a decent variety of various meats, pork, lamb and so forth but where they really shine is hard to find items like fresh duck thighs, rendered duck fat, fresh lard, and whole rack of lamb! Not to mention their excellent service. The staff was very kind and knowledgeable, prices a little steep but worth it for that special dish.
Payton Hosch
Had a great conversation on what I was cooking and they suggested the perfect cut (Bavette Steak). Extremely friendly staff and an even better selection of meat. 10/10 recommend!
Braden Eliason
I just ate their roast beef sandwich with everything on it. It was probably the best roast beef sandwich I've ever had. However, the amount of mustard on it was best described by the phrase "mortal pain." Once I started eating at a slower pace (which would be a normal pace for most people), my sinuses stopped burning, and I could enjoy all of the wonderful ingredients. Marie is still eating hers with alternating exclamations of "yum!" and "oww!"
Robert Sung
They carry slab bacon and interesting meat products. If you're into French style cooking, you know how difficult it is to find a place that carrys slab bacon.
Sandwiches are decent, but a little heavy on the mustard which overpowers the other ingredients. 3.5 stars
Shannon Motzko
A great local meat market in Linden Hills MPLS with high quality goods to make and complement meals.
Zane Thomas
New to the neighborhood and was told Clanceys was a must. So glad we listened, awesome awesome sandwiches and great selection. We went during a lunch rush, and the employees still took the time to answer questions and talk to customers. Will be going back, alot.
Warren Paszkiewicz
Lamb rack & hot Italians fantastic. Great size, taste, tenderness, great American lamb!!!
Nicholas Popehn
The best! If you want the best, this is your place! Roast Beef sandwich is the best sandwich I've ever eaten no exaggeration.
Rusty Shackleford
Best meat market in the TC. love their local selection of meats!!! Their sandwiches are very tasty, but the bread will scratch your mouth something fierce!
Neal Dimick
Their curbside delivery works just the way you would want it to. You place an order, show up at the appointed time and it is delivered to your car!
Miles Kipper
Best sandwiches in town period. Their rotating selection of home made soups, jerky, sausage and other meat goods is to die for
Matt Cohen
Fabulous butcher, including meat, fish, stock, and some smoked and prepared foods. Their butcher case is like *art*. They will also make you the best roast-beef sandwiches.

Amber
The best steaks in town hands down. The dry age t-bone is a personal favorite.
joseph kazer
Excellent meat selection, gets crazy on weekends. Needs a "take a number" system or something similar, service while informative and friendly can be difficult to acquire.
Rick Hajt
These are some of the best sandwiches i have ever had. It’s what dreams are made of.
Michael Howe
Local and organic, the sandwiches are awesome, Kristin and her staff are great!
Luke Strumbell
I always go here for the roast beef sandwich which is always amazing.
Cathy Cozad
The best butcher in town. I cannot imagine a world that Clancey’s is not a part of Linden Hills.
Chris Coward
Local fresh meat with knowledgeable staff. Sure it's more expensive than the grocery store but that's to be expected for non-frozen cuts.
Sarah Adams
Glad we found this place! Best meats and sandwiches in town that we have found to date!
Bryan Deane Bertsch
