Reviews of Stevens Deli
Gary P Guthrie
The closest thing Louisville has to a NYC deli. Fast service, great portions. The half and half combo is the best deal at $9.99.
Stella W
My husband and I ate here just prior to leaving Louisville after a week in Kentucky. This was by far the best place we ate at while in Kentucky. The sandwiches were delicious and the service was fabulous. Highly recommend eating here. If we ever visit Louisville again we will return to Stevens & Stevens!
Teri Bowman
So I'm the reason you didn't get any Isabella Tortellini today. Had them give me everything in the bowl...and it was delicious!
T. J. Hart
Darn good deli sandwiches and deli sides. Line may look long but goes fast. They make sure to pile the meat on. Wish they had a fountain drink machine though. They do offer canned drinks.
Rob Beaven
I eat here every Wednesday and absolutely love this place! I had them cater a work event and the food was fantastic. Hundreds of food options with great service and a smile!
DAVID WORSHAM
Really good Turkey Rueben and potato salad. Also had the French dip which was good but I felt the meat was sliced a little on the thick side.
Karen Renata
Fast, friendly, attentive service and EXCELLENT food ‼️ if you don’t know about this little gem, you have definitely been missing out! Please go... thank me later😊 …
Monte Delafonte
I've been here several times but not in a long while. The wife and I were out and about and decided on a quick stop to grab a lunch. Very pleased that we decided on Stevens and Stevens.
The menu is huge and entertaining, packed with well-loved options. The food was prepared quickly and the place was busy. Soups, veggies, sandwiches, desserts, drinks everything you need. Prices are reasonable and the portions were good sized.
Many have said it but it really does ooze out a New York deli vibe but with a distinct Louisville flavor. Lots to look at on the walls while you eat.
One of the great places in Louisville to take family and friends from out of town for a refreshing lunch.
Kyle Higbee
Ordered the Reuben. Bread was great, plenty of sauerkraut and meat. Russian dressing also delicious. Overall a great sandwich. 4 stars because the meat was a little dry. Great vibes!
Doug Stern
While it's been years since I've been a regular here, it's still one of my favorite places. Healthy food, cheerfully presented, fairly priced. I was grateful to see full tables and a long line at the counter when I visited recently with my workmates. Maybe I had forgotten that S&S uses styrofoam plates and bowls.
In any case, I noticed how eating out of polystyrene disappointed me. Maybe it's a small thing, and I'm glad S&S apparently survived COVID. Still.
I'm sure the management has given this issue a lot of thought. And now they also have my two cents to consider...FWIW.
Thomas Schmierer (Tommy)
I LOVE this place!!!
Went there a few months ago & it's awesome 😊
Great breads!!!
All around really good 🙏 …
Shawn Clark
This deli has been a go-to staple of mine for nearly a decade. The menu is expansive and there is something for nearly everyone. I keep trying new items and I’m always impressed! The quality of ingredients is excellent, and worth every penny. I usually get the pick-2, half sandwich and a side dish. Most recently I had the Spielberg - hot pastrami and Turkey. Maybe my new favorite. But I can’t wait to try something new next time.
JL Quebbeman
I had some kind of nonstandard reuben sandwich. It had decent taste but was so messy it fell apart and was hard to eat. The seating area is super tiny, really too small for the place. They are overrun with staff who are all staying busy. I would probably try this place again.
Jaren Cooley
So much choice. So much good. Never get the same sandwich twice. Always leave happy. Super friendly staff.
Lee Burchfield
It's always a great experience here. Awesome staff and great food.
Devone Coles
One of the best Delhi's in the city. Just make sure to get in early for.luch if you dint want to queue
Dave Thompson
Love this place. Especially Dittos French Onion Soup. Two great places.
Hal3y Fantastic
My favorite quick lunch spot in the Highlands. Tons of varieties for sides, salads, soups, and sandwiches! Love the caprese!
LeAnna Jones
Delicious and so many choices! The only reason for the missing 5th star is because we dined in and it was very warm indoors. My entire table was sweating and multiple people had something to say about the elevated indoor temperature. Very nice staff and food was amazing!
Sean Crask
Great authentic NY sandwiches. Had Billy's Brooklyn Ruben. They put the same quality and care into their sandwiches as Frascelli's does. 10/10 recommend to anyone
Judson Baker
It had been several years since my last visit. At 1pm the staff seemed mildly annoyed at my questions. It was $15 for a corned beef sandwich. No sides, no pickle, just meat and bread. Soda cans were dusty.
Scott F Wilson
Definitely some of the absolute best sandwiches in Louisville. Always terrific soup too. Love the cornbeef and pastrami!
Kelli Milligan
Always excellent! We get soup and 1/2 sandwich with a cookie. Great matzo ball soup. I love their corned beef sandwich and raisin oatmeal cookie.
Jessica Jones
I wish I had photos but I was starving & it smelled so great, I just couldn't wait. It was 1st time visiting & I was not disappointed. OMG the decor, the 80th & Broadway Reuben served hot, & the tomato something I can't remember was so freaking delicious! Honestly, it didn't cost much more than fast food but the quality, the serving size, & the service CAN NOT be beat. Ok, I've made myself hungry. Hopefully they're open tomorrow bc like the Terminator on a mission: I will be back.
Aarica Barrett
Very cool and funky spot. The menu and decor are a lot of fun! I ordered the Sleeps with the fishes and my partner had the chicken salad melt. Both were fresh and very tasty. The price was right and the service was fast and friendly. The bread was perfect!
Glenn Morgan
Louisville’s perfect deli lunch spot!
Stevens & Stevens Deli is just the perfect deli! After you have the BLT. I don’t know how you’ll want to try anything else! This is just the perfect lunch spot! You can’t go wrong with anything. All the sandwich are generous in portions! They want wonderful sides if you need a bigger lunch. If you need a treat, they have several amazing sweets as well. My favorite cookie is the butterscotch cookie. My favorite cookie is the chocolate chip cookie. My favorite cookie is the oatmeal cookie. Ok. They are all my favorite cookies and taste like I make a home!
They have an amazing mushroom soup!
You will find some free parking adjacent to the building and a free small parking lot behind the building which is shared with Ditto’s. When it’s busy, you might have to search for some parking on the surrounding streets.

Great service. Good food. Corned beef was a tad dry, but the flavor and sandwich was good. Always a delightful atmosphere. Increased prices, as to be expected.
Marilyn Fowler
This place makes awesome soups and sandwiches. The atmosphere is quaint and fun.
Service is fast and very friendly.
Scott Fast
This deli sets the standard for what other eateries in town should strive to be. They offer a great variety of excellent food, at reasonable prices, very friendly/engaged employees, all in a super clean atmosphere.
Stephan Zimmerman
The 80th and Broadway sandwich is worth the journey alone
Dennis Hummel
Nice American deli that tries hard to deliver the traditional Jewish deli fare.
Semi cafeteria style but you will have to carry your own tray. Much is made in house.
Eric Walthall
The only bad thing I can say about this place is their hours aren't great. About the only time I can get here is on Saturdays but it's ridiculously amazing. I love this place. A true NY style deli.
Pat Yense-Woosley
Their food is delicious, it's a little pricey but in the end worth it. Most of the staff are friendly but the young man who answers the phone and takes orders is rude and very condescending. I would order from here more often if I didn't have to speak to him. A shame I would think lots of folks just hang up. He's not good for business.
Nathan Eversole
I worked at this deli for a few years. I still enjoy eating there as much as I did before I got the job. The owner Mark is a stickler on quality. And you can't find quality food like this for a better price anywhere. It was a good place to work, and is a great place to eat.
Mike Skelton
All the foods. So good. Sandwiches, pastas, soups, you can't go wrong.
Bill Jordan
Love the gold rush cookies. The sandwiches are really good and a decent size. Not those skimpy things some sandwich shops sell. Fun experience every time. Selection is made fresh when you order and always fresh tasting..
Scott Tanner
Old school Louisville Deli. Great vibe with an Uber efficient staff. I'm a fan of most of these sandwiches...but tomatoes alfresco is a must, and you can't leave without a chess bar...trust me.
Blane Hartleb
Sandwiches were amazing...you have to try the Banana Dana out of the dessert case...wow. Parking is a little rough...and it is tucked in the middle with no street frontage. Lola the cashier said she made all of the deserts...and I wanted a milk with all of the incredible desserts but they had none in the cooler...AHHH...but Lola went and got me a cup of ice cold milk. What a great place. I had the Roast beef sandwich on wheat with cheddar with the horseradish sauce. It is NOT HOT...it is great. Thank you Lola for the incredible deserts and the outstanding customer service.
Shay Paulin
Really good pasta salads. One of my favorites the Mr Greenjeans sandwich has been brought back. I was so excited until tjey were sold out of it. Will go back for one.
MJ Hultz
Love this place! Had a Phantom of the Opera, corned beef, pastrami, slaw. Enormous! Split between 2 of us, and a Stevens salad with apples, spiced pecans and blue cheese on greens... Perfection!
Rick Stiles
The food is excellent with an extensive menu of sandwiches, along with soups and salads. It isn't really a full service deli as I am used to in other cities. It is small and shares the building with Dittos Grill. It is a nice place for lunch, whether dine-in or take-out.
Victoria Whitaker
The food is great, the staff is friendly, and the ambiance really hits the spot. This place is a true gem.
The Red Yeti
Love this place! The 1&9 Uptown is my go to sandwich, but there are plenty of great options. The Scarlett Pumpernil, the Soho Mozzarella, and the Dr. Zhivago are some of my other favorites. The staff is awesome too!
Danielle Sakai
I love this place. But they cannot get the bread right to save their lives. I order a blt on white, 10 times out of 10, I get it on wheat. At this point, I'm not even sure why they ask. "Your choice of bread" should more aptly read "We'll surprise you".
Ross Lerner
Matzo ball soup is best in town...only one in town too I think... :) Awesome all the same. Deli sandwhiches are too many to choose from!, all prepared fresh of course. Fun New York feel, a favorite spot for years.
Ryan Frazier
The sandwiches are dope and the vibe is chill. Plus, they got these weird life-size cutout paintings of famous people from New York that stare at you like you've died and limbo is just a small sandwich shop. It's my favorite type of place to be hungover and eat pastrami.
C S
Always great food and wonderful service. They treat everyone as regulars and their regulars they treat like gold.
Karl Borns (Kar El)
Good Sandwiches and friendly staff.
Steve Baker
Awesome authentic modern deli. And it's a fun place too. Fresh, and some items are on full display. They offer catering and lunchboxes for picnics and especially at Derby.
Scott
Great place for lunch, with soups, sandwiches and more. Order at the counter, then take it to go or eat in. They have a large variety of meats as well! They also have some parking spots on the side of the building near their entrance. Be aware that Ditto's Grill shares the same space, so it may be difficult to find when driving on Bardstown Road. Worth the stop!
J.R. Schloemer
Great "hole-in-the-wall" sandwich joint! Portions are ginormous and there is something for everyone. Be ready to give your tastes a ride, because this isn't your normal ham sandwich type of place. The combinations and selections range from I love that, to who in the world thought of that! Definitely have to get the Tomatoes Alfresco for a side! I hate they close so early, because I typically get a craving for TA about 10 minutes prior to closing.
Phil Schaad
Stevens and Stevens is a big city kind of urban deli hidden away in the rear of another restaurant (Ditto's) on Bardstown Road. The deli is only open for lunch (10:00 to 3:00) Monday through Saturday. If you dash in just before closing time you may find that they're starting to clean up and put things away.
The menu offers a surprising selection of sandwiches and sides, soups, desserts and deli fare. The food quality is good and service is fast paced. No table service, stand in line, tell them what you want and if it's not ready when you get to the cashier they'll bring it to you.
The entrance is on an alley and not easy to find. Look for Ditto's on Bardstown Road. The entrance to Stevens and Stevens is on the alley next to Ditto's.
The dining room is small and crowded, the building is old. A few booths, some tables and a lunch counter. When we were there on a Friday about 1:00pm we were lucky to find a table for two. People coming and going frequently bumped and jostled me as they squeezed past our table. Everyone appeared to be in a hurry. Noisy big city urban atmosphere. This doesn't appear to be a place to go for a leisurely meal, read the newspaper or use your laptop. I wouldn't suggest bringing a group here.
Parking is wherever you can find a place to park. Some spaces are reserved for this deli and it's companion, Ditto's, but not enough.
Carry-out appears to be a big part of their business. They offer catering too.
Cash, credit cards and debit cards are accepted.
Does not appear to be wheelchair accessible. Stairs at the entrance, very crowded and not enough space between tables. Restroom is large enough however.
If you find this review useful, please mark the "thumbs up" icon here.
Andrea Bergstrom
Such a good sandwich place! Love the chicken breast and all the pastas and my husband loves the Henny Youngman! Delicious brownie too! I've been a customer for 15 years!
Rodney Lockridge
We had a very good meal at a great price. Yes im talking a Rueben sandwich. A good one is hard to come by. But these people are on it. I'm saving my 5th star for my return visit. I can't wait to try something else from the menu.
K Louisville
My favorite deli in Louisville!
I have eaten here since inception.
The quality surpasses ALL local deli's, as do their recipes.
Not one sandwich shop in Louisville comes close!
Laura Lee
Delicious deli! Great soups, pasta salads and sandwiches. Love the scotchie cookies. The place can be crowded and it is often difficult to park during peak lunch time.
Chris Simon
Best Corned Beef sandwich within 400 miles. The Matzo Ball soup is the only real Covid-19 repellent.. Try the chess or Lemon bars for dessert.
Kevin Williams
Sunday brunch blue special plate
Byron
This place does everything right EXCEPT for the chicken noodle soup. I never get the soup for myself but my kid does and then they won't eat it and I try to eat it and then understand why they don't like it. Man, it's yucky. But everything else I've ever had is yummy. They need to have the tomatoe soup more often.
Claire Driving cker
Good food. One worker was very insensitive and could have approached a problem in a much more positive way, instead of the belligerent tone and speech she used, Very upsetting. We have been going to this restaurant over 20 years and do not feel like going again.
Denise Johns
Great food and great service!
Marty Pollio
Great sandwiches, but small bowls for soup and sub-par desserts at a premium price. Also, their stingy store hours give me a headache.
Wilson Chan
I had a great lunch there with my family. The sandwiches were very fresh and tasty. I will definitely be back next time when I am in Louisville area.
Eric Abell
A true Highlands staple. Everything on the menu is excellent but my personal favorite is the chicken salad melt with tomato alfresco.
bob newhart
Nice quick service deli, great side salads and desserts. If they added just another slice of meat on their sandwiches, would have given 5 stars.
Annie Stephens
The staff was very friendly and the pasta salads are all amazing! Wide variety of food that can accommodate many dietary restrictions or just be something new to try every time you go in.
Jill Sampson
Great soup, sandwiches, salads!
Eric Stevens
Not related to S&S by the way. Had three opportunities for catered lunch. Great reubens. Generous neat on the sandwiches with a pickle included. Had the Henry Young Man (corned beef), Mr. Ziegfield Mr. Ziefield (reuben like sandwich) and the house Reuben on three different days. Bread is good. Highly recommend.
Bibliophile
Cozy place for lunch, but go early if possible because it can get crowded. Seating can be tight & parking is always a challenge. Walk if you can. Good fresh food and very approachable and friendly staff.
Mike Spurlock
Excellent deli sandwiches and sides. A great place to go for lunch. During peak times parking may be an issue. Get there early
Prince D
The food was delicious great corned beef. the people taking orders not very friendly. tried asking a question and was told "just tell me what you want!!" it was worth the rudeness i must say
