Reviews of Politics and Prose at Union Market
Jenne Siaka
I’ve loved going to Politics and Prose since I moved to DC 10 years ago. I’ve been gone for a bit and was quite ecstatic to find they have a location right in my old neighborhood.
I’m not going to lie, it made me want to move back. I went there twice this week alone. My recent visit a couple hours right before my flight. It was worth the risk.
I digress, the store itself is small but packed with the newest books on the shelf. Walking in, I was tempted to just touch all the books. There’s fun quirky collectibles and Knick knacks you’d be tempted to add on to your book purchase and the staff are very helpful too. I went on a Saturday morning and it wasn’t packed, there’s limited parking but not hard to find.
I love books and I’m glad Politics and Prose is growing to have more locations.
Definitely worth the visit.

Great spot! Went to a special event there with a live recording of the CityCast DC pod. Anton one of their team members spoke and gave great DC book recommendations. Seems like a great crew here and appreciate the stellar curation.
Becky Gomez
Cute, small space. Limited selection, but they carry the top releases.

Love this little bookstore. Had cute gift wrap that I bought and I also loved the fiction selection! It is a bit tight inside but its DC lol. Also love that there’s a coffee shop attached and definitely will try next time.

Employees are rude. When I went to check out, the girl just sat there with her hands folded staring at me, not saying anything looking at me like I wasn’t supposed to be there. Had to ask if I could pay for my book. Looked annoyed that she had to get off her chair. Which is, you know, how she gets paid, so you’d think she could at least say hello. Good book selection though.

The staff member was tolerant of my questions and an ample selection of material pervades the small store.

Love this book store! It has a great vibe and even better selection could spend hours there

Union Market has it all, except a bookstore...until now! Local growing bookstore, Politics and Prose opened a small shop off to the side of Union Market near the new sushi restaurant, O-Ku.
It's one of their smallest locations, but they still found a way to pack in every section that should be in a bookstore from history to travel to wellness. They also sell DC made items and baby items like books. There's even a small area of seats to enjoy your book.
They want to be a neighborhood shop and offer free membership to any resident in the surrounding neighborhoods. They also offer events each month for kids and adults.
The staff are friendly and funny!

Cool throwback to classic bookstores. Brick/stone walls, high shelves, and a great selection of books. Have found some gems in here and plan to head back when I need some more material!

This review is for RYAN at the Coffee Shop who made me the BEST LATTE I've ever had in my life. It was an Oatmilk Decaf Latte. I proceeded to try 3 more while in DC and his was still my favorite.
I will be back!
Also, bookstore stocked 12 Rules for Life by Jordan Peterson so I was impressed.

Politics and Prose boasts a tremendous collection of books across topics but also fights well above its weight as a convener for events on various issues across politics and fiction. The store is small relative to its breathren in the Wharf and up Connecticut Avenue. Perfect for enjoying a coffee or stopping in while strolling through Union Market.

First time, came to listen to Mallory O'Meara's talk about her new book: "Lady From the Black Lagoon". It was an intimate and cozy event, in the back of a darn cute bookstore. Would come again, easy!
Paul Uppole
