Love this neighborhood bookstore in The Loop. Staff is always very helpful and their new space makes shopping easier. Ran into today to grab a book before heading to the airport. Asked the staff for recommendations and ended up buying 3 books I couldn’t decide between. The service and good feels of being IN a bookstore is 100% better than clicking buy now on Amazon.

Lovely local bookstore who either stocks or can order any book you need! Leave your drink at the door and sanitize your hands so you can get to browsing! Their new bigger location is accessible with a stroller, wide aisles, no steps. I usually browse the kids section and there’s a big variety of classics and newer titles. I am able to find books with characters of color (Ruth Forman, The Pinkneys, Anti-Racist Baby, Have I Told You Black Lives Matter?) which is important to me. I usually end up with a pile of 4-5 excellent titles that I narrow down to 1-2 to take home :) When I am ordering books online, I try to find them on subterranean’s website in order to support a local business. They can get pretty much anything. Shipping is slightly slower than Prime but it’s worth the wait to feel better about my purchase.

They did a remodel during the shut down and the ambiance is lost. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. It's like walking into a Barnes and Noble now. If you've never been before, it won't matter to you, because...books. You won't find these books at B & N, and you walk out into the Loop, so it still gets 4 stars from me. I subtracted a star for my disappointment. You will love it. Great people.

We only went in briefly after wandering to walk off our dinner. The woman working was super friendly and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. They also had quite a few good books that immediately jumped out at me. They had a great young graphic novel section where my daughter found several books that she loved and read as soon as we got them home.

Love the feel of this bookstore. A bit of a smaller selection, but they still have tons of options and cover every genre. They even have literary t-shirts, mugs, and pins too. The loyalty program is a great reason to keep shopping here, in addition to the friendly and helpful staff.

I suggest ya’ll make more Subterranean Bookstore tote bags for us to purchase and we can take our books in. There’s a lot of potential here. Tantrum Niche

This is the coolest bookstore. They are indie, they are small, and still- they somehow seem to have everything you should want to buy for decent prices. The staff are peerless, and even for the kids section alone; if you have young readers this place is a MUST visit. They get bonus points for being right next door to the best coffee shop in St. Louis, Meshuggah. There are other tremendous book stores and coffee shops in St. Louis, but Subterranean is the benchmark bookstore they all fall just short of.

Vibrant and stacked floor to ceiling with books for every breed. The staff was friendly and helpful with any questions. Nothing replaces a old school book and it's great to still see the passion Subterranean Books has for them. There is an adorable dog that roams the store, those interested can shower it with praises and love, but it's something to keep in mind if you are hyper sensitive.

I've lived in four college towns and two major cities , and this is the best small bookstore I've ever found in. Every shelf is chosen with care and fits my interest perfectly. The staff know their stock and want to help you find just the right book. You just have to, have to, go there today.

This is my favorite bookstore in St. Louis. My wife and I have a tradition of coming here every year for my birthday and she buys me a book. I love this bookstore so much that sometimes I have to avoid walking past it or else I will buy something! I like to support this business over big chain bookstores because they offer a very personal and nuanced experience. The employees will leave reviews on little notecards next to the books they have read to help you find something you might like. The place isn't large, but what they do carry is first rate. Subterranean Books also does a great job of carrying books that are relevant, or currently being discussed on outlets like NPR, on their shelves. They also have a rewards program for geeks like me that can't stop buying books.

I second the comments about only really for buying new books, and about how it is a great local business. In addition, though, I'd like to commend the selection. There are so very many books, organized well, and with the owner more than happy to assist your browsing or to give specific recommendations. In addition, if by chance it is not in store, I overheard him on the phone checking up on orders he had made for his customers, of which he is seriously on top of it and keeps you updated about when to expect arrival. Make sure you have some time to browse when you go in to look, you'll find sine really great stuff!

Another fantastic St. Louis book store. Not only does it have a unique and nice library, but they also tend to have small art or art related exhibitions in the upper deck of the store. Staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. Plus the location is great. Buy a book then grab some food or a cup of coffee afterwards.

There are stores that sell books then there are Book Stores. This is a Book Store. Subterranean Books is a Book Store with a heart and soul and an amazing selection of books. Do yourself a favor and swing by even if you do not think you need a book. At minimum you will find good conversation and without too much effort will possibly find your next favorite read.

I love Subterranean Books! They have the best selection of books, amazing staff recommendations, and their loyalty program gives you real savings! The only bookstore that holds a candle to it is the Book Loft in Columbus, Ohio.

Best place in STL to buy your books! The staff are friendly and are always available if you have any questions or if your up for suggestions on a book they are happy to assist with that as well. The prices are a bit higher then your local Barnes & Noble however you're paying for a more personalized and tailored experience. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND coming to Subterranean Books for all your reading needs!

If you're ever on the Delmar Loop, this is a very nice bookstore to visit. It's not your big box chain but they've got a little bit of everything and are willing and able to order it if they don't have it. The staff is extremely nice.

This store is very cozy and a nice break from the rest of the Loop in Saint Louis. The staff was very friendly and helpful, I noticed a cashier being extremely friendly to a man who needed to borrow a phone charger and the cashier was also able to give me reccomendations on some new books based on my previous reading!

When we asked Google for used bookstores. This place kept popping up even though there isn't a used book anywhere to be found. Had a fun time looking around and found a book I didn't know I was looking for. Recommend it to anyone visiting the art district, but not if you're looking for used books.
