Reviews of University Book Store
I came into this bookstore to tạke graduation photos with a couple of friends. This was also my first time there. The bookstore is spacious and clean. There are not as many varieties of books as others, except reference books. The staffs are friendly and knowledgeable about students. I will come back at someday
The bookstore offers a wide selection of books, has a large collection of books for children and sells many other items. My first impression was completely ruined by the terrible smell inside. I understand that the building is over 100 years old, but inside it has a rather unpleasant smell and it is impossible to stay for a long time.
Great bookstore with a huge selection. Everything UofW as well as a great stocked bookstore.
I love going here. I like to peruse the art supply section that's upstairs, and they have an exhausting amount of books on hand. Staff here has always been courteous and helpful when I have questions. Oh, and the prices here are super competitive.
University Bookstore is an awesome place! If you're a husky register for discounts. They have mostly everything you might need for school and then they have a wide selection of universory gear.
Great place for Huskies to shop from jerseys to mugs after all these years. I firat shopped here 20+ years ago. Now it's practically still the same memorable place.
Great service and products all around. But it’s been multiple months and they still do not have tap / Apple Pay which throws me off a bit. Overall still a great place to get UW merch though
Slightly haunted and empty feeling post pandemic but get past that and it's the same vibrant well curated book store it always was. Esp good selection of manga, sci Fi, fantasy, urban fantasy And children's books. Also history, languages, art, huge fiction section. And that's just the wing with books. The tiny coffee shop appears to be functional but both times I've been there recently it was dark and closed ( a weekday evening and a Saturday) hopefully this will be open regularly once University starts
Never been to a university bookstore in which you can’t openly view the textbooks. The book selection outside of the textbooks was very good and worth the visit. The staff were very friendly and courteous. I’ll be visiting again.
Large book store with a wide range of books. Staff is friendly and helpful. Large section is dedicated to Huskies items. Good range of stationery and art equipment.
Not only was I able to find everything I wanted, the gift wrapping was very professional and well done. I was somewhat tired when I got there but the staff lifted my spirits.
They used to have a good selection of art supplies. Not any more.
They have a good selection of books, but the pricing is not the best. You can definitely do better through other online retailers. The buy back program is not super great; they often reach their capacity quickly and will not buy any more, leaving you stuck. They also sell a number of custom UW books which are just private branded, less complete versions of the original author's work. Which is not useful if you keep the books for your professional library or if you need the other half of original work for a follow on class.
Broad selection of modern books, supplies and materials. I love the gift shop! You can find something for everyone.
I wish the cafe had more food options but it's a nice area to relax and study :) staff are always friendly and very helpful.
I was in vacation and started an online art class and they set me up with the basic supplies to get me started in the class. Staff was super in every way. I purchased things upstairs and downstairs, each cashier was very friendly and helpful. If you need anything, I recommend this book store.
Went for a book signing but University Bookstore has always been a favorite. Well organized, helpful staff and an assortment of University of Washington 'stuff'.
Nice spot. Bit too pricey but the bathrooms don't get fixed years after years ... also there are tons of homeless who like to camp out outside , bringing a strong disturbing scent to stay for a long time.
I shop there 2 or 3 times a year: a great source of books for an avid reader.
I really like the bookstore the items were really nice some of the items were reasonable but for some reason the female items were very expensive and I did not understand that so I kind of just looked over them and I left.
My kids love here! They have many choices because the handwriting book reviews help them.
I love their book signing events! I've been going to them for over 10 years, so glad to have them back!
Always pleasant and exciting to be here, given all the lovely stationery and books.
Good book selection and great place for art supplies.
I really like the variety of items located inside the bookstore. The bookstore is very clean and neat. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. For those visiting the bookstore for the first time like myself it was fantastic not only to see the books there were also gift items and novelty items as well. I would highly suggest stopping by the University Book Store and see for yourself how fun an education can be.
Full service retail shop. Tons of clothing options, W sportswear, gifts, a cafe, and of course books. Get stamped for free parking.
Pretty convenient place to buy UW merch, various supplies and books, comics or Manga. The location is super convenient and their staff is kind and caring.
Great place, you see a lot of students and you can get almost any book here
Clothing, school supplies gifts All at reasonable prices
Selection was okay...but no specific sport shirts. Definitely lacking for a PAC12 school.
Great selection of fountain pen ink and nice notebooks.
Textbooks have been moved to second floor. Staff will help students get their books(they won't let you get your own). Be prepared for longer wait times during peak hours. Staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. Good place to get supplies for school. Not the cheapest, but when you really need something, they are well stocked. Convenient location. Easy to find.
Huge selection of UW gear, although I wish everything wasn't so pricey.
Bought some stuff, hoodie, and t shirt.. great product and nice staff..
Great bookstore it's a great bookstore great bookstore!! And a lot of husky apparel go Huskies
Go Dawgs! Tons of UW gear & fun local Seattle/WA gifts
It's a large university book store with lots of book selection and UW souvenirs (mugs, t-shirts, flags, hoodies, etc.). For students, you can order your course materials ahead and pick them up at the second floor. The staffs there are very nice too. It's lovely just even just walking around checking stuffs in the store.
What is there not to like about The University of Washington Bookstore! Staff super friendly! And tons of Purple & Gold! GO DAWGS! #operationdubsup
Best book store in Seattle and near by area.
One of the best local bookstores in Seattle, and also includes a large selection of beautiful and interesting gifts. And of course all the UW gear a person could ever hope for, plus more. A must-visit if you are in the area!
Security was doing a great job of watching the place, making sure nothing funky going on. Also super helpful in helping me find my destination. They've been doing remodels/reconstruction for several years so it can get a bit confusing. Nonetheless, I was in and out with my goods within 5min!
It's challenging to find modern books in the libraries, but this store sells interesting variety of books and most of them are modern.
Love my school book store but it is overpriced and not enough selection as it being the main store for the school. (Refering to apparel and other items). More selection and better pricing available via online.
Along with Eliot Bay Books, one of the best book stores in Seattle. Lots of autographed first editions too
The store's selection has shrunk of late due to necessity, cash flow, and staff, I assume; which is a bummer. Still very happy to support this local gem of a shop. Indie books make my heart happy! Also glad for their selection of pens and drawing compasses... Thanks!
Go Dawgs! Your standard collegiate bookstore. Students be sure to sign up for 10% off.
The UW Bookstore has tons of journals, books, pens and pencils, backpacks, and like any other art or drawing supplies you need. They didn’t have any good spiral-bound graph paper notebooks :/ Other than that though, great store!
Little pricey but it can be your choice to buy merchandise
Been there since the old days of original cool Seattle and it is still great. Huge selection of Husky gear and always something new to discover browsing in the books section.
Nice pen section, but I don't buy books in stores much anymore, plus the layout's all funky, less inviting for non-students.
AND they've closed the bathrooms permanently!!
Great felt pens, very little else.
Overpriced polos, didn't even look that good, service was exceptional
Love this place! If you want art supplies this is absolutely a great place to shop. From inexpensive to extravagant, you'll find it. Fantastic book section too. Many books are signed by the author. I've shopped here my whole life and I can definitely say it's a favorite place to go!
Needed materials for a winter break art project with the kids and was disappointed to find U Books shut. But no problem- ordered online and they got my order to me at the pickup window in 10 minutes flat. Great customer service.
An extremely well stocked and wonderful book store. This has everything I would imagine a quintessential book store to have:
1. Novels
2. Stationery, paint and office supplies
3. Cafe
4. Board games
5. [Bonus] University swag
All in all a very warm and nice place to visit on a weekend
I love this bookstore full of great books and other treasures. I can always find good gifts and have them wrap them year around. Parking is easy and free with any purchase (up to 2hrs) and great children’s book corner with sitting area to read. Dogs are welcome too. We also love the technology center and usually purchase apple products here and skip the line from the Apple store.
This is still the best bookstore in the city but it has lost some of its shine. They have turned to a more consumer/logo based operation. The various book divisions have shrunk or been eliminated completely.
They have also cut back on their author events and other in store events.
You can still find just about anything you desire you may just have to order it. Still worth a visit and if you want Husky gear this is the place.
The u-dub bookstore is always a wonderful place to go! Make sure you give yourself plenty of time though because you will want an hour to walk around and look at all the great Husky gear and Northwest items that are locally made and books and office & school supplies. And the staff is always extremely friendly and helpful!
I've been going to the University Bookstore for the last twenty years at various times. I hadn't been there in a while, and I was disappointed to find it very diminished from its former glory. Upstairs was closed off, selection wasn't even close to what it was years ago.
That said, it is still a decent bookstore. There is a deep, if not wide selection on some topics, and you'll find things you won't see in a tropical Barnes & Noble. The art department downstairs is still quite nice, the whole staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Just overall not the store it was.
ordered online a few days ago and called ahead of time to let the store know my friend would be picking it up for me. when my friend picked it up the woman working was hostile and short with her, and gave her sass about how i should have called beforehand. impressive lack of communication and attitude for something that doesn’t really matter at all.
I love a good bookstore. And I've been a patron of University Bookstore since 1981, so yay. Their stock is great, their folks behind the counter are lovely and if I didn't have a library card, I'd buy new books from them. ♥️📚 …
Huge! It's so refreshing in this day and age to see an actual brick and mortar bookstore doing well. A place where you can hold the literature in your hands and smell that new book smell. So satisfying. They do a lot of live read events here, too. Also, great little cafe, a huge Huskies retail store where you can purchase logo items to show your support/spirit. Even has an actual US Bank branch on the second floor.
Great bookstore for variety of books from history to novels, from tech books to classics. They have great bargain section where you can buy pretty recent books for a very cheap amount.
Coffee house inside is a great plus, they make delicious latte, strongly recommended.
Also gift shop is another plus, where you can buy chocolate as well.
Nice spot with good selection of discount books and quirky items. Good place to purchase gifts. Textbooks are overpriced as usual. It’s often busy, so cashier lines can sometimes get long. Parking lot is in back with free validation if you spend money in the store.
A great bookstore is a treasure. University Book Store is a beautiful space with great staff in the vibrant UW Ave neighborhood. It will be even better when the light rail station opens nearby.
Good place to get a variety of books, not just textbooks. I like coming here to get like-new books at very reasonable prices for gifts, and also for their pen/paper/art supply selection, which ranges from cute novelty items to quality supplies. The folks working the help desk have been v knowledgeable and helpful.
A treasure trove of books, magazines, clothing and souvenirs. I'm never disappointed when going shopping here. Staff members are usually friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable about the merchandise in the store. Parking in the lots behind the store is free, provided you ask them to validate your card with your purchase.
Nice bookstore that does what it needs to do. Helpful and friendly staff. Maybe only negative is that the last time I visited, the public restrooms were occupied by 'housing challenged' gentlemen who were using the restrooms to shave and sponge bathe... Not a big deal in the grand scope of things, but the stalls were occupied for a looong time before they were free.
Always good to re-visit my memory
I traveled to the Bookstore (from Stanwood) to stock up on Husky gear, only to find it closed on a Saturday due to the pandemic. They were, however, open for pickup. I went online and chose a few items that said “available today”, and placed my order. I waited about an hour, then checked in at the pickup area. They said since they had over 500 orders pending, it wouldn’t be ready today. I told them I would have to cancel the order since it would not be feasible to come back to pickup. Matthew and Nick decided that they would personally go pull the order and 5 minutes later I had my items. I totally would have understood if they had not been willing to do that, and I really appreciate their customer service. I have spent thousands of dollars at the store over the years (they didn’t know that), and I will continue to do so, since my son is an incoming freshman. Kudos, Matthew and Nick!
Great book store with lots of services. Cafe is a great clean, safe place. The gift wrapping service is top-notch, they wrap AND ship for a great price! I've sent out tons of gift books from here.
Lots of exciting events - I got to see Mark Z. Danielewski of 'House of Leaves' fame give a talk.
I love the mix of new/used on the shelves, sometimes you can snag a mint used copy of a book at a good price. Unbelievable bargain book sales. Not crappy obsolete paperbacks - some serious contemporary fiction and interesting titles.
Not to mention it's the place to go for official Husky gear and textbooks.
Bathroom is a little smelly and scary, and has been for the last 3 years I've been on campus.
If you are a husky fan, this is the best place for all of your husky merchandise needs. If you are a reader, they have a huge selection of books from children to young adult to non-fiction. They also have a wide selection of some pretty cool art supplies.
A fantastic bookstore, definitely Seattle’s best. The staff are friendly, attentive, and have great recommendations. The cafe is small and great for reading, albeit a bit loud. Only complaint: the layout of the store is atrocious. It is impossible to see where one section begins and the other ends.
The University Bookstore has everything that you could possibly need for the classes at UW. Even if you're not taking classes at UW they have most everything you need for the community college classes as well. If I can I get all my stuff there. It is somewhat expensive, but there's so much in one place it's just convenient. Also the employees have been fairly nice to me and helpful when I've been there. I've had had a couple bad experiences trying to find the right Department in the store and being misdirected but other than that it's been great.
Neat place to go and look around. You could definitely find some unique gifts here. Book selection is decent. The coffee here is so/so. I wouldn't go out of my way to stop for a coffee, but if I was already walking through, I would stop here again.
Amazing selection of not just books but UW merchandise of all kinds. We were there to stock up on some Huskies gear for our first Huskies football game! And they had everything you would need to go to a Huskies game and represent your school and team.
Possibly the best bookstore within the Seattle-Tacoma area!!! On hthis visit I was searching for children's books for birthdays: a 10 yr old budding astrophysicist, & twin 5 yr olds, one fascinated with foxes, the other giraffes. The reference staff could not have been more helpful or more knowledgeable, & I ended with a treasure of books that were perfect. But beyond the help of the staff was the very apparent love for what they do. They live & love books, & the people who read them, & it's a wonderful experience even for browsers. The fact that the place is a vast warren of specialty areas means I could happily spend days there, exploring. Have lunch at a nearby cafe & spend the day!
Unique gifts. Great greeting cards. Perfect gifts for your HUSKY fan! Nice art supplies section. Find specialty pens from Cross, Parker, Retro 51. Great selection of INKS for your fountain pens. Books, new ,used, great selection.
Pretty good bookstore. Book selection isn't the best but the cafe has good coffee, there is plenty of UW apparel, accessories and various Husky goodies. Publicly accessible, well-maintained bathrooms are also a plus.
it's really pretty here. the fashion they have on display is interesting too. auto discount for uw students. It's not a place you can ship things from. and also, if you're a student, recommend buying books online, picking up at online store. otherwise 2 hr wait first day. you can always return them.
I always find what I'm looking for at University Book Store. Lots of supplies, books and gifts. Found my triangular Architect Scale (made in Germany). Also found my Moleskine small notebooks here. Nice selection of various sizes. Great lattes here. Parking usually validated up to 2 hrs in their own parking lot. Info desk is very helpful.
There are wide variety of books and souvenir items
Large selection of books, a good place to buy gifts and art supplies!
This bookstore has a great selection of books. It also hosts programs for kids, which is always nice from a parent's perspective. They have a sale table with great discounts (I bought a book that was 75% off), and the cafe inside is fantastic.
Great place for U-Dub swag. Very crowded when I was there. Pricing of the swag is on par with other places with souvenirs but well worth it. Highly recommended!
Love to go here for bullet journalling supplies. They also have a great selection of really cool notebooks, notepads and journals. It's like an Office Max, a craft store an art supply store and gift shop all in one.
Randy, went out if his way to help me in personally walking me to the areas where I needed to go. He also had suggestions that were if great help. Without his assistance I most likely would have become frustrated and left. I got exactly what I wanted and paid what was in my budget. Thank you Randy !
Not only is the book selection for non-students well-curated and ample, but the basement supplies section is the stuff of dreams. Fountain pens and inks, office supplies, canvases, art supplies -- there's almost anything a stationery addict could want! Street parking's a little challenging -- it's worth trying to park in the designated lot.
East walk from campus, we were visiting the university and walked here to pick up UW merchandise. They had much more than expected, a very friendly and helpful staff, and clean restrooms.
A great selection of books, as well as UW gear. You can grab coffee at the cafe or pick up some small gifts (stationary, socks, candles, etc). I know they frequently have author events, so check their website for those!
Most students love and hate the University Book Store. Love getting ‘new’ books for exciting classes but hate the price of these books. The cost of university education does not need to include high priced print books when a university can choose lower cost electronic books. The electronic version is both better for the environment and easier for students to use.
It is a University Bookstore, it has everything you'd expect from school supplies, university specific swag, and all the school books you need. Additionally, it does have a really nice cafe on the inside that does legit good coffee, and it has an actual bookstore with helpful store reviews. Even if you don't go to UW, it is a worthwhile bookstore to stop by at.
It was gameday, so it was packed. But, the selection was good. Sizes were gone in some items, but we got there at 5pm. Lines moved fast though.
Great store. EVERYTHING you could need for art or organization tasks. I have never gone there for a college textbook, but they seem to have a lot of that as well. Good items and fair prices!
Good location (right next to UW), great and helpful staff! Other than books/textbooks, you can also shop for affordable UW merchandise (lots of them), office supplies, tech products. They even offer to gift wrap your purchase for free during the holiday season.
I love spending time in this store. There is always more to see. A good selection of art supplies, books, and gifts.
The baristas are always a bit slow for some reason, but the coffee is good in their attached coffee shop.
One of the last great bookstores in Seattle--and even it has cut down on the amount of space given over to books. I love the art supplies/stationary section, too.
Best bookstore in the area. Catering to students, you can get a lot more than books here. All kinds of school supplies, paper, writing instruments, art stuff. You name it, they have it, or can order for you. Drop in and browse! :)
Fun bookstore with tons of school supplies that run the gamut from standard to more cutesy and fun designs.
Note that if you are using a mobile payment system (Apple Pay etc al), you won't be able to make a purchase here. The store system only currently accepts cash, debit and credit cards.
I would give this place 5 stars if it weren't for the inflated prices and their bad bad habit of following around anybody who doesn't look like they're rich and preppy. God forbid you are a poor white male with tattoos and you go in there cuz you will be followed and harassed non-stop with "can I help you", "may I help you", "can I help you find something", every three freaking minutes to the point to where they're just annoying you to get you out of there I believe. Other than that it's a jolly good time.
Typical university bookstore: some great selections, but at these prices it's often better to just shop online for something used. There's a nice separation between books required for university classes and the books for everyone else (novels, etc.). Friendly and helpful staff. If you're looking for a place to just drop by and browse, the used book collection at Magus is usually more interesting, though they won't have the new books you'll find at the UW bookstore.
Everything you need for UW gear. They have an outstanding collection of books with really helpful workers and recommendations for new books. Great for browsing. Validated parking up to 2 hours with purchase of something.
I absolute love this place I always fine something specially in the clearance section lol proud to support! Jiji
Awesome as always. Great book selection. Stairs should have tape at the bottom of the stairwell to avoid going all the way to the top to find out that the second floor is cordoned off.
Great selection of U of W merchandise. Nice store, good layout
Great staff, good times. Good books. People probably need them for class. One day I'm going to buy them all and be like "deal with that professors." But as of yet I dont have the savings to warrant such behavior. Ahh, but its good to dream. Maybe we should just each buy a biology textbook and see how quickly they restock first.
The selection of books is quite limited for a store of that size. But you will find the space occupied by a nice almost boutique-like shop with cool gifts and an extensive selection of quality UW-branded apparel. Upstairs there is a smaller Apple store selling Macs and small electronics and cables.
A great bookstore! Lots to look at, books, clothing, cards, nik-naks. The cards in particular are really good - reasonably priced and many that you don't see in major chains. And the staff were very friendly and engaging.
The staff here are knowledgeable, approachable, and very helpful. I am saddened to see the books portion of the store is being reduced in size significantly in favor of meeting and event space. As a result of the loss of space, the selection has diminished. In spite of this, a very pleasant experience.
During my four years as an undergraduate and three years as a grad student, I spent a lot of time in this store. My visit was like a trip down memory lane.
Although technology has dramatically changed the way we live, work, and study, I was pleasantly surprised to see many links to the past -- including sketch pads, lab notebooks, graph paper. And, yes, exam bluebooks.
Really is a great store, with three levels and full of everything you could ever need, from merch to textbooks to casual books. Also has a Starbucks inside. Would give it five stars, but the fact that books are commonly overpriced, and that their rental management system is handled by an out-of-state third-party lender (they use Nebraska Managed Rentals for some reason), are two things that create major headaches. The plus sides are the great selection and student discounts.
SPENT way too much but apparently needed it all. :-)
DD will be first year in fall and had to gear up the rest of the family. Store has everything you think of from course supplies to shot glasses.
They have all the books you'll need for UW usually. Only unfortunate thing is buyback process is slow (long lines) and the refund offered is laughable at best. They do give the option for 10% more if doing store credit but again, this really adds to only like a couple of dollars. I recommend renting when possible. Save some money and the headache.
Love having this place so centrally located. Free validated parking out back, staff is usually pretty friendly, and good selection. Only downer is that they have been out of stock on probably 3 of my last 5 visits for items I needed.
This is a big book, souvenir and logo item store at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. On the main level, one side of the store sells books like you'd find in any other book store. On the other side of the store, you'll find clothing and over-priced souvenirs. Lots of UofW logo items. Be sure to walk up the stairs to the clearance section to save some money. Downstairs, you'll find the university's course book section. There, you can purchase new and used course books for classes.
This place is a paradigm for those who embrace either the academic life or who support the Husky teams, students or others. One of the only places you can get graduate or professional level books in the general book area. The supply store has high quality professional level supplies for art, writing, journaling, time management, engineering, etc, etc, etc. Finally, it is a place you can grab a latte in the cafe and sit and contemplate the day or your next exam.
I cannot say enough about the ease of purchase and speed of shipping. I ordered the book on Tuesday and received it on Wednesday. This place is amazing, and I will definitely be ordering from them again.
Well organized and easy to navigate. The staff here we're also quite helpful. Textbook prices remain expensive but what are you going to do? My suggestion is to look elsewhere before buying full price stuff.
Great book store with parking in back.
The store is well laid out and has a coffee shop. The staff is also super friendly!!
They bought several of my used books that other places had no interest in (mostly academic, education theory ones; makes sense) and gave me a good in-store credit rate for them. Staff in the fiction area is really friendly and helpful.
I found everything I needed. I was looking for lanyards. I bought two. I support UW.
Great selection of new and used books as well as art supplies. Very nice place to drop in and grab something cheap and good to read. Everyone who works there is also friendly and kind.
*Cafe review only*
its not cheap but its not too expensive in relation to the rest of Seattle... the pastries and hot chocolate i had were good and fresh tho. If u want cheap stuff dont come in Seattle.
One of the best bookstores in Seattle. University Book Store is a local institution...in this location for over 50 years. You will find selections and recommendations here you won't find anywhere else. The art book section is my favourite. The sale books hold many great finds.
In addition, there is a nice gift department, a large art department in the basement, a small cafe and a textbook selection for the UW and local private schools.
NOTE: parking is free with validation. Get a sticker from the cashiers with your purchase.
Great university bookstore that dwarfs the one in my hometown in Alaska. Great displays and professional staff. We went downstairs for the art supplies and people there really helped us out--thanks!
Ok place if you are a parent or rich kid buying some overpriced UW swag, or you need to pick up some school supplies. Most of the books are always out of stock and aren't really cheaper than if you bought them from other online stores.
Local bookstore on the Ave. Textbook discounts are not the greatest, but the service there is fantastic. Many arts and crafts are sold downstairs while Husky apparel is sold at ground level. Is especially crowded near the beginning of the quarter.
It reminds of lavar Burton and reading rainbow
Been coming here for 40+ years on visits to Seattle. I'm this age of ebooks, etc sometimes it it's still good to get a physical book. Great care with copies power jacks and a happy "hour" in the afternoon.
Great book store, coffee shop and art supply selection, but I especially come here for their fountain pens. If you’re into high quality writing instruments, this is the place to go.
They try their best! They need prompt knowledgeable phone help tho not from novices.
Awesome place to get your favorite books on the Ave. Students come here to buy textbooks as well. There is a cafe as well. Also this would be the place to buy Husky gears and stuff
The University Book Store is more than a book store. It's one of the first undergraduate experiences a Husky will face when they go to UW. The location has so many different sections from books to UW apparel to school supplies and even a makeup station. I like the variety but I also love all the sales on books and the events the book store has.
Standard bookstore although this was off campus and geared more to the tourist because of all the knick knacks like magnets, mugs, tshirts, gourmet candies and postcards. I always like to look at the textbooks that were downstairs. All sizes of tshirts were stocked and included kids and babies. A little walk from the campus about 5 minutes and Iʻm not sure where you would park.
An awesome bookstore, but honestly I go here primarily for art and office supplies. Their selection is one of the best I have ever seen, and they validate parking if you make a purchase so that's always a bonus.
Awesome independent college bookstore. It's actually owned as a co-op by the students. They have great selection of academic and non academic books, and can order things for you if they don't have them in stock already.
Average bookstore. Get your textbooks, small technology section (mostly Apple). You can find some good things here. Major destination for Huskies great. Some things are likely overpriced.
Big store for books and university souvenirs. Don’t see many big book stores these days so it’s nice to browse in one. Employees were helpful and friendly.
Disclaimer: I'm working with the bookstore currently, as their Husky photographer.
I took on the contract because the University Bookstore is amazing! Awesome range of books covering all topics, the art and stationery department is swoon-worthy, and the gift range is fun. The Husky range is pretty good, but as I didn't go to college at UW, it doesn't appeal to me.
They have great events, from readings, to signings to wizard rock shows. The line for the Oatmeal was hours long, but the team let it go way after close. It's the venue of choice for the Whomping Willows shows.
Only four stars though because the cafe isn't quite as good.
Exceptional book store with knowledgeable, friendly staff. Non-students have the extra bonus of drawing from textbooks and class-related books. Picked up my next read for book club from a stack of used books!
Really awesome book store that sold almost everything you could want. I enjoyed walking through there and if I lived in the area would probably frequent there fairly regularly.
give daniel a raise this man helped out with my order so well and was extremely nice about all of my questions as well
Tons of great sales on great books. However, they don't have a section for new releases like barnes and nobles does. You have to go to a specific section (genre) to find new releases, and it usually isn't obvious.
From Japan:)
I was not a student of university of Washington, but I love those original stuffs!
I could spend hours here. And spend a lot of money! They have a great selection of books, cards, stationary, UW gear, coffee, etc. The coffee shop inside was lovely to sit at. The staff is friendly and helpful.
The people are friendly and very helpful I got my girlfriend a new hat that I hope said I think she likes
I am a bookstore lover. They are like museums to me :) I can spend hours in them. UW, WWU,and UBC/Vancouver are my favorites. They each offer sections on their respective history, famous people who attended and/or contributed to that institution, and have cool things to buy outside of text books for the students. I'm a mom whose daughters attend those colleges so I have seen a lot of bookstores visiting campuses, etc. This one and the other 2 are great!
Large selection, helpful staff, lots of extra goodies for art and drawing as well as all kinds of books
A treasure trove of the things you didn't know you needed but none-the-less want. Absolutely any type of pens pencils and drawing implements. Academic books and all manner of UW wear, bumper stickers, mugs, trinkets and more.
great bookstore it has everything for students. it also has a cafe for students. it is a multi-level store meaning there's more than one store for students to shop for all their educational needs.
Wide selection of new books in most every genre/subject. Includes used both as a distinct (small) section combining fiction and nonfiction, and scattered among the new books. They also normally have at least one table of remaindered books.
Terrific!! I wanted a new hat from/of the University and they had it. They had a large selection and I was able to choose.
Best place for Supplies and souvenirs. Remember to bring your husky card to receive rebates. Coffee next door is pretty decent.
Ive been frequenting the University Book Store on The Ave for many years and it's always been a good experience! Friendly & helpful staff with wonderful selection and decent hours of operation.
Nice place. Has alot of UW merch and other things as well
They have variety of merchandize you could choose. They organized their shelves very well. Plus the staff are friendly and accommodating.
This store has an incredible selection of Leuchtturm 1917 notebooks and writing utensils. I was able to get everything I needed for my bullet journal here (tombow dual brush pens, Faber-Castell PITT artist pens, dotted A5 Leuchtturm). The selection was the best part of the place because I was able to test out different Tombow pens and choose the ones that I liked the most. I never would have been able to do that online. They also have competitive prices which made me much happier to buy in-store than online.
This is the best place that I've found so far for bullet journal supplies in Seattle. The person in charge of buying stock for the paper section really knows what they are doing.
The staff is always so warm and inviting! I love the selection and I appreciate that the store cares about cleanliness during covid!
It is a good place to buy supplies needed for UW classes and Husky gear.
I always love going to the book store. They have parking which is a huge plus. Sometimes I think the merch can be a little expensive, but they do have a very large selection.
It's my favorite store. Extensive book selection, large stationary section, available help, free parking with small purchases. It's awesome.
They have everything, or they'll order it for you. At Christmas, they'll gift wrap and ship your books for free -- and if they're going out of state, no sales tax! Easily the most human -- and least monopolistic -- of the prominent, Seattle-based book retailers.
Crowded but a great experience. Logo wear priced higher than expected but worth it. Highly recommended!
Love visiting this place. Sadly the selection seems to be shrinking, but there is still an immense collection. And the attached U-Dub store is great too!
I purchase all my Pysanky supplies here. They may be the only ones in the city who carry them. Courteous, helpful, & thoughtful staff is a plus.
Nice and large book store with huge selection of books and general merchandise / souvenirs. Merchandise is overpriced but beautiful store overall. Tables to sit at and free wifi.
What a fun store! All kinds of trinkets and touristy stuff. And lots of great books and friendly employees.if you visit the U District its a must.
Great, actually one of the few bookstores held in trust for the students, often has great options for students and non students alike, great pens and art supplies, and solid coffee (stumptown)
It's expensive, but there's a whole bunch of stuff to choose from. The kind of store you can definitely lose an hour in. Great for gifts and school supplies.
More of a gift and tchotchke store than a real book store. Each remodel results in less shelf space for books, more sittin' and chattin' space. I mourn the bookstore of yore, this is just a hollowed-out placeholder.
I had placed an online order and on the day I was planning on picking up the books, the school notified me of a change. I was able to work with the staff to make necessary changes and get the correct books that were needed for class that was the next day.
Great stock of Husky clothing, art and school supplies. The reading book selection has gotten smaller as of our February 2019.
I like the UW bookstore. Good food at the cafe and a lot of UW gears.
Great place to shop for college supplies and also some goodies. There is also a cafe inside. Good customer service. Check out or ask about discount sales .
This has all that I wasn't in a university bookstore: books, UW clothes and accessories, and other fun gifts and food. The student discount is nice too!
So much more than a book store! Great toys, games, puzzles for adults and kids and all the UW clothing you could want!
There's a bathroom on the second floor. Can get a 10% discount for UW brand items. Cool place, with lots and lots of books, as well as electronics and clothes (which are a bit expensive).
Great store with plenty of UW goodies and supplies. Good selection of books.
Came for a book reading, bought several of the books. Facility has their own parking lot which is necessary or at least very convenient if you come by car. Friendly staff.
Great place to pick up some UW merchandise!
Loved browsing through the bookstore. Staff are friendly and there is a variety of items to select. Prices are expensive but to be expected. They validate parking so don't forget when you visit.
The folks at the tech desk were super helpful, and the book selection is always great! They're also a very accessible stop for stationery and pens, which I adore.
I love this book store it's amazing. They sometimes have good stuff on clearance also. From textbooks to high-powered philosophy, this place has it all.
The bookstore is big, but the kids section was not amazing and the café was closed.
This is great bookstore. And I try to go as often as possible as opposed to buying on Amazon. Knowledgeable staff and a good selection.
Miss the books that were upstairs
Not much in SAT or LSATs books
In fact not much in any educational help books
As far as book stores go; This is the place to go and get lost in, if you want to. So much to read and see and buy. The children's selection is crazy big too.
Great, great atmosphere here. If you are a book lover, you'll enjoy how this book store is organized. Books are not hard to find, and the customer service people are really great.
UW students and staff have 10% discounts! If there are more discounts, I will definitely buy lots of sweatshirts and hoodies!
Great place, great staff, I'll never forget my experience at the bookstore. Great selection and they can order and ship anything they don't have in store
College book stores are always great. Not just the requisite college books, but also top sellers, calendars, college wear, odds and ends. Great for people watching.
This is an awesome book store for college students, they have tons of text books, computers, UW merchandise and even a selection of books to read while relaxing. In addition they have a small coffee shop and parking validation!👍 …
Great place to get UW gear and books and such! We always get our calendar here too. Usually pretty busy with limited parking.
One of the best stops in Seattle for a unique and quality assortment of art, office, fine writing, and student supplies as well as an excellent bookstore - - fiction, non fiction, and UW press.
Lovely place u can see a lot
The bookstore is in a really nice location, and if you purchase something you can get your parking validated for 2hrs. They also have free gift wrapping on the 2nd floor.
My go-to for Husky gear since I was a kid. Take advantage of the Alumni discount if you can. Free parking. Gift wrapping is $1!
Met my favorite author here! A literal dream come true! Thank you for hosting these meet and book sign events! It really means everything to me!
Had everything I needed and more
Unassumumingly o e of the better art supply selections in Seattle. quietly great staff. Informative, helpful, friendly, knowledgeable. Plus they validate parking
Helpful staff and fairly quick order to pickup.
Always a great place to visit and shop. Great customer service, in particular I'm fond of the knowable arts staff, and great scifi/fantasy book selection!
The oldest bookstore I have visited. It has a great section for children’s book.
The place to go for Huskies gear. Staff is super friendly. They close at 4pm during the week.
There are two bookstores. Elliott bay and the UW bookstore. Don't buy from Amazon, go here.
The staff gives day far better insight into books than any Amazon reviews.
Best selection of Husky gear around. There's a loft area with sale items, which are more affordable.
We got a couple of books in here yesterday and the lady that helped us was such a sweet person and very knowledgeable we were stock and happy with her information will definitely come back here
Great selection of Husky and UDub merch
elena did a great job making my latte, i will be back for more!
Huge school books supplies store! I came for notebooks. I compared Amazon's prices for the same notebooks, and UBS had the better price!
Great selection and very diverse crowd. Went to a book signing for Brent Weeks here and loved it. Chill place to read as well.
Great university book store. Academic and non-academic books, gifts, supplies, etc. Nice gift shop. Small cafe.
Has tons of nifty items for cute little gifts, books everyone can enjoy (in addition to the textbooks), and a coffee shop inside
Sad to see so few books and the text books section unavailable to walk through.
Awesome selection of books from all genres; great staff; nice little coffee shop. And definite must stop bookstore.
University Book Store is one of the best places in town to buy books. The place is convenient because of the entrance on two streets and vast parking behind.
This place used to be my favorite hangout for years. It is quiet and clean. The cafe is a nice spot for work, too.
Very large, great selection of art supplies. Textbooks are available on the bottom floor. Good selection of books as well.
I love shopping for my Husky gear and buying gear for my grandkids who I hope are future Huskies!
Great service and all the Husky, book, and gift items you could want. Also a cute coffee shop inside.
Support the independent book stores! Love the markdowns on books!
Had to me every dam books in possible. Good location staff needs to acknowledge customers better and be at services but other than that they get 3 stars from me
Friendly staff and thorough options make this my go to store for psychology books and resources. You'll find journals, pens, notebooks, and planners downstairs.
I always find something here, and at reasonable prices. A little something to add to our Husky gear, a gift of soaps or Seattle chocolates, or discounted books to read.
Great bookstore! Personally look up the authors who come to talk about their books! It is a fantastic experience
Excellent book store for Husky items and gift items. Has a great coffee shop in it too!
Large open bookstore with multiple levels -- cafe, US Bank, gift wrapping, mailing, electronics store including Apple devices, and bathrooms.
Better than okay Art Supply Department; nice bookstore, very convenient location for me, also having a US Bank location their is very helpful
huge selection, fun to browse, good place to pick up Holiday cards and little gifts.
Not just text books! Wonderful selection of general fiction and non-fiction, knowledgeable and helpful staff. And parking! Did I mention free parking?
Terrific selection of books, and good service. If they don't have wat you're looking for, there can find it for you.
I love this bookstore. Such a great selection of gifts and the cafe has my favorite jasmine green tea.
The staff is always helpful. They have great bargain book tables and they have reasonably priced arts and school supplies.
Love this place! Can find gifts for everyone in my family! And love that they extend their hours through the holidays.
Wish they had a larger selection of hoodies and zip up sweat shirts.
It's a good book store. They have all kind of books and is not too expensive. Good place to go
Book wasn't in stock but they found the least expensive option and still accepted my limited time coupon. Always a pleasure to shop there.
Large bookstore with a big selection of items. Should have most of what you need as far as school supplies and textbooks. Prices are very high though.
Great place to park while hanging out on the Ave. The parking is validated with purchases in the store, which also has a coffee shop inside, as well as books, supplies, etc.
It was a really nice store they have a little bit of everything great place to shop and great people really nice people that work there
Selection: 9/10 more services than most expect, check out events and tech center
Service: 10/10
Atmosphere: 7/10
Value: 7/10 aside from textbooks, prices are very reasonable
Contains every essential school supply for the common student. Books can be very pricy though so I would recommend renting or buying online.
I like that it has books and good art supplies. The coffee shop there makes it a memorable place.
Good products.. excellent choices... Glad the brought back the OG husky mascot rather than the "thin husky"
The moving ear husky hat is sooo funny. Squeezes the air ball inside the “paws” and ear will go up and down.
Quite the big bookstore, which is a big plus! Far too many very strange fringe titles in many sections, though. Oh well, large bookstores are an asset.
Great book shop--way beyond course books. Wonderful gift shop. Broad array of UW gear.
Lots of great things to look and everything in one spot but the L.p follows you around treat ing you like your not going to buy anything.
Great bookstore with helpful employees and a large section for office/school supplies and a small selection of used books.
Good for all sorts of study supplies as well as a quick coffee. Parkings validated for up to two hours.
Good place to find something with 'W'!
Wonderful bookstore; great UW clothing and other merch; nice gift shop too.
Text books incredibly expensive. They have a cheap clearance aisle though. Nice place to walk around.
I love the ubookstore, I always go there if I need anything. The staff is really helpful too, I don't hesitate to ask them for help.
Terrific bookstore. Fiction & nonfiction, even children's books, plus art supplies & school supplies, in addition to the textbooks you'd expect.
Great selection, parking, and nice staff. Amazing book selection and art supplies!
A good book store, big selection and nice helpful people, with 98% of text books you'll need at UW. But look elsewhere first. Everything here is extremely over process.
It's got good books at good prices, and a great art supply section.
Had a delicious chai tea, and a wonderful time at the Patricia Briggs book signing! Great store to visit!!!
Good selection, less than it used to be, but the staff are great!
Love this store and all it's varied products for sale. Always interesting items and lovely, informed staff.
Very small for such a big school. A lot of diverse products. Seemed like there was a transition going on for the fall semester.
Great selection good service. Some things on the pricey side
Has the official UW collegiate merchandise. Nice that they have kids corner on the 2nd floor. Easy parking.
Great gifts items with a Washington or quirky theme. Parking is free with purchase which is convenient.
great selection of books. They offer package service which give your book a beautiful wrap.
A lot of good stuff, but just like any other university bookstore things are pricy
Yummy Italian cookie and delicious coffee. Great music contributed to a much-needed break from a hectic day.
The only thing they sell if Husky gear and books which are overly priced. Apart from that the people there are great and helpful.
Enjoy the shopping at the flagship UW bookstore. Great selection of everything UW. Check out their daily deals section on apparel. Great deals on UW stuff
Great location. Friendly staff. Coffee shop, public bathrooms, comfortable atmosphere. Excellent merchandise.
Not just for students, this place is a great all around bookstore and downstairs is a wonderful art supply store.
This is an enormous book store! You can find all sorts of books and UW merchandise here. The staff are friendly and informative.
Great place to hang out and buy stuff. Great selection of stationery and clothes and other Husky gear!
Very friendly and helpful staff, great book recommendations and conversation about books. Nice selection, too.
Great for UW and Seattle souvenirs, and nice selection of art supplies
There are some very good bargin books here, in particular those that are assigned for textbooks used in classes. Choices of books are also wide and updated.
Quality merchandise and the staff is always courteous.
Good selection of books and will order any thing they don't have.
Free parking, great place to get all your Husky gear
Wow great store... great service...all the Dawg Gear you could ever want🐺💜 …
Placed an online order and picked up in person. Staff were very busy, understandingly, but very courteous and polite.
Nice place but where did the computer books go? Great staff, nice location, and cool store layout.
I call and a real person answers. Not a phone tree. She is friendly and truly interested in helping me. Crazy huh?
Great local bookstore! Awesome selection of books- including a large bargain section.
Nice store.. nice coffee shop, nice place to read. And discount if you have a husky card !
Great bookstore for regular books, textbooks, and (much to my surprise) cocktails, gifts, makeup, Seattle confections, and souviners!
I get my special pencils there. It's the only store in the area that has them. However, there are no books on nutrition at all. Was disappointed.
Everything Husky you would need, at almost the same price as your tuition! Enjoy the flagship UW store!
Still one of the best college bookstores I have ever been to
It's a completely average campus bookstore, but with a little extra in selection. One step above fine.
The bookstore is really nice and the staff are super friendly and helpful. All sorts of books and textbooks too!
A very comfortable place to find new books and spend an afternoon reading. The staff is also very friendly
A lot of choices in the store
Super nice, and helpful staff. And they have had a real run of fun clothes lately.
Went to an author event - well organized and great location. Really helpful staff.
I Love this place for Books, Art and all sorts of Cool Knickknacks! 🙂 …
Store has a lot to look at a d good facilities. Cafe is in between the bookstore and clothing/goods store.
Great place to find books and everything you possibly need for studying, especially if you are a UW student
Great place to walk to after my lung transplant to keep my health up. Fun cafe, great place to people watch
Great selection of art supplies and a super friendly and helpful staff.
Always enjoy the store. Lots of deals on books and other items.
Friendly independent bookstore with pleasant cafe, well stocked supplies department, Husky apparel.
Great atmosphere and lots of UW merch, will come again!
Prices are excessive however there are decent rewards for being a UW student and the accessibility is great.
Great stop for all your U-Dub needs. Also, a surprisingly well-stocked young adult and kids section
Love the U Bookstore! Great inventory, fantastic space, and wonderful events.
Came here to explore and ride bikes in the area, this is one of the auto-select destinations when you search in the university campus
This place is pretty cool i didn't even know they had an ebike place on the 2nd floor at the south end
Everything under the sun for your student and yes there are books here too!
Pricey but good place to go if you want to buy stuff with "UW" on it lol
Great book store and excellent for school and art supplies.
Great local book store.
Good selection of books with really good prices.
Friendly helpful staff. Excellent book selection. Free parking too.
Had complimentary gloves for browsing covid safely!! Also public restrooms!!
Not the cheapest but they have some stuff you Just Can't Get otherwise. Love this place.
I love this place - book store plus art supplies on the lower level.
Very good for anything you need at the university, but the lines to check out can be massive
It's more than a bookstore and they have nice selection of notebooks and supplies.
Wonderful book store with books you didn't even know you wanted to read yet.
I went there before summer break at around 2pm so it wasn't that busy. I had my questions answered and was cashed out right away.
Glad to have it be back open. Helpful friendly staff.
Amazing variety under one roof! Knowledgeable, helpful staff. Everything you want and need.
Parking available. 2 hours validated. Such a nice attendant and a clean and organized place.
Standard UW bookstore but I always find the service e friendly, even when in major textbook rush times!
Very clean. A diverse selection of political books (as I recall), not just completely sticking to left wing books.
Great service and help! Got all materials needed.
It's pricy but has a decent selection for some things. Not my first choice but sometimes the best because of convenience.
Variety of items outside of books. Includes standard UW gear but also trinkets and cosmetics.
I buy all my art supplies here. Great sale prices and wide selection!
The "Bookstore Cafe", is all right although the Aire given off from patrons who are not students has a distinctly "unfriendly" feel.
The draft beer there cost $10, but it's really tasty.
Great local stop for all things books, as well as art supplies, and school supplies.
Good bookstore, lots of options. Overpriced as with everything involving UW. I like the discount options
Books for classes, books for everything else, and all the Husky hear you could want. Also gifts, cards, wrapping etc.
Extremely well stocked and have an amazing books choice.
This is a wonderful book, art supply, and tech store with many other things.
Don't care much for their electronics or books, but the selection and prices of office supplies are unsurpassed.
Join the pack and get rewards at the book store. Husky merchandise are also available
I like the gifts area and coffee shop. Staff are super friendly! 😀 …
Prices too high for college students.
Very helpful pleasant, a little expensive but great stuff for tourists and students.
Everything you need to make a cougar jealous. Also, known to have hard to fine art supplies.
Go Huskies. Best place to get Husky gear. Don't bother with Amazon.
AWESOME place to buy new & used college textbooks. They have ALOT of other things to buy for all ages.
Wish it was a little less expensive for things other than books. Lots of wonderful things!
Souvenir's are expensive, but they have good sales racks.
Great selection of art materials, ok selection of books, very pricey!
Been buying books and supplies here since 1989. Waterman fountain pen ink on the Lower level.
Amazing selection, great staff, validated parking...what's not to love?
Friendly, air conditioned, tons of stuff. I might be based because I love bookstores!
Great bookstore. Love the staff pics
There are lots of new gifts now! I bought several, for a birthday.
Cozy University book store. Has nice selection of bargain items, also cafe and other merchandise
Love getting art supplies here !
Nice place! Clean, friendly staff. Spendy but that's to be expected! GO DOGS!
Nice people salesperson took me to the clearance section and I got a great deal
Great selection, helpful staff and ample space for event readings.
Clean, fairly well organized, and a pretty good selections. A very nice experience, in a dying industry
Love this place. Have everything for book lovers and husky fans.
A little overpriced, but convenient and have pretty much everything you need for class.
Very nice store, very large space, a must visit if in the area
One of Seattle's greatest literary assets that sadly is struggling to keep its heart beating.
Quite pricy, but there's free gift wrapping and they have fountain pen ink!
Large selection and good prices of books and text books.
There is WAY more in this store than I expected. You could easily spend an hour in here or more.
Bought a Washington state pin. Nice husky store and great selection of books.
I does what it's supposed to, which is all I really need from it. Pretty decent parking, too.
Best book selection of any bookstore I've been to.
Old school bookstore that stands the test of time. Great selection, knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Great place for books or anything to do with school.
Overpriced stuff but pretty typical for a college bookstore
All great bargains on Husky gear. Also a fine coffee shop.
Staff were extremely nice which made for a great end to a tour.
Always interesting to wander around and see what the staff recommendations are and what new knickknacks they have in. They are expensive, however.
Of all the big book stores around, I'd say this is the best in the area.
Great selection of gifts and books, but the building could use an upgrade.
Great selection and staff. Free parking (for customers) even!
Great deals, events and a well-curated book selection
I mean this is just where you get your text books it works for what you need. Also they have cold vegan burritos for some reason
One-stop solution for University goods and stationeries. Not the most economical one, but have good collection.
So many great gift ideas!
Incredibly huge, they have every kind of book and art supply
Very nice variety. Very pleasant atmosphere. Just about everybody was very helpful.
Love getting Huskies gear from this place before game day!
The city of the book is a lovely place for me and all the lovers of the book. They are the best.
