Reviews of Third Place Books Seward Park
I do not know if there is a fantastic place like this one in my neighborhood. It combines the book store, coffee shop, and a bar downstairs. It offers a chilling vibe, comfort, and great coffee and beers for everyone. The price is reasonable. The whole place is super clean, spacious, and well-decorated. I highly recommend this wonderful place to anyone.
An excellent place to hangout, get some good food or coffee, grab a drink, play a board game, and check out a great selection of books. I just recently learned the phrase "third place" as a location outside of work and home where people can get together to meet in a neighborhood setting. We don't have many of those places, but Third Place Books is a great example of how it can work. I highly recommend a visit to any of our guests. Check it out!
Wonderful variety of books in such a unique location. Bring your kids to choose from such a wide selection! And enjoy the food and drinks from next door.
There’s BOOKS and BAGELS and COFFEE and FOOD and BEER!?
I only thought there were books and coffee but this place is the most perfect bookstore I’ve ever been to. I wish I didn’t live so far because otherwise I would go here EVERYDAY 😭 I didn’t take pictures of everything but it’s absolutely perfect
This is a treasure, in a nice neighborhood… it really lives up to their concept of being a third place, after home and work. Great book selections, even some used books (in new condition). One evening, there was an author event, and plenty of people there for that, plus people enjoying their draft beer selection (we had draft kombucha) and fresh foods (we had two different vegan Korean items). Plus, they have Full Tilt ice cream, which was incredible. This is a gem!
I love bookstores and I really love other z Third Place locations, but this one was a special treat to visit with a good friend from out of town who loves beer. With the three businesses that share this open space, you get good food, an international beer store, local ice cream, and an awesome bookstore. From $2 older books to a very good selection of current hardcover nonfiction on display -- and a small but mighty music-book section -- this is an excellent small-ish local bookstore. (Keep in mind I always take Portland's Powell's City of Books as my reference.)
I love this bookstore. They have both new and used books and a great selection. They have kids books and some toys too. The staff is awesome; helpful, polite, and knowledgable. It's a great place to pop in for a gift or a new book to read, or you can browse for hours.
The staff is friendly and helpful - the book selection is incredible and they have coffee and tea.
Glad this place is in my neighborhood! It has a Chuck's Hop Shop, coffee bar, Murial's deli, Full Tilt Ice Cream, nice patio, arcade downstairs, excellent wifi throughout, and also a nice collection of books (it's our go-to spot for finding books to gift to kids.)
Third Place provides the coziness of a bookstore with the function of a coffee shop, brewery, and delicatessen. Very easy to spend the whole day (and to get way more books than you need!). Highly recommended!
Cute little bookstore attached to an amazing tap room. Huge selection on draught and even bigger one to take home. Food trucks and snacks abound. Great service. Go go go!
You can find socially relevant, off the beaten path kinds of books here, enjoy lunch, dinner and espresso, pick up cool cards to send to friends, unusual yet personal gifts, all under 1 roof. Go. Treat yourself. ☕📚 …
Came upon this location while heading to Lake Washington Blvd to bike. Conveniently had our gift cards from Third Place with us. Very nice store and found exactly what I was looking for. Friendly and helpful staff! Muriel's (for food) and Chuck's Hops are right next door. Did not partake in the food/beverages. On-site parking available - albeit limited.
I mean really what more is there to say about a bookstore that shares a space with a phenomenal Jewish deli and a great bottle shop where you can grab a drink from an ever rotating menu of awesome beers. Fantastic selection of books and the staff is super helpful.
This is a stunning bookstore with an impeccable selection. I was there for a poetry reading on a weeknight and it was super busy! Clear that it’s well supported by the neighborhood.
A nice medium sized bookstore with very helpful staff. They have a good range of books and are always willing to help you order a book not in stock.
Love their stuff - so many books and a great selection for kids! One of my fave places to visit, friendly staff!
The bookstore is clean and laid out well with nice wide aisles, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable . I had no problem getting assistance. The cafe is currently closed The selection of books was reasonable. They had really good parking for Seattle.
Nice, if small book store. Good local option. Staff is very helpful and kind
Loved the fun atmosphere, and the food truck was great. Had a fun time and will definitely return
We are lucky to have this independent bookstore in our neighborhood. They have a wonderful area for children's books and an excellent selection. If they don't have a book in their shop, they can get it for you - usually by the next day. Another plus is you can buy your books on their website and go in and pick them up when it is convenient.
They also have a nice little selection if you need a quick gift including games, puzzles and cards.
For starters, I was at Muriel’s, which is delicious. Fantastic bagels and darn tasty lox. Good coffee from the beer place. It would be nice to be able to ring them together but certainly not a show stopper. Quite relaxing sitting outside.
The cutest little book store. I would highly recommend stopping in for coffee and a good book to read. Will definitely be back!
Cozy bookstore with a large cafe. Great book AND beer selection.
Arced carpentry ceilings over coffee shop, restaurant and books. An open place to read, eat and find a new or used topic. A bit pricey and not the best place to sell used books.
Excellent selection of new books. Nice clean atmosphere. Friendly staff.
Looking for the most expensive bookstore in seattle? Well this is it! It's fun to browse but it's hard to wanna spend at least 5 bucks over market price. The used book offerings are few, but dont worry they are insanely overpriced too. Sure, the connected coffeeshoo/beer place is a nice bonus. It's a close walk to seward park if you wanna grab a few drinks and read and then head to the park.
Probably one of the coolest places I've ever visited. A coffee shop, a brewery, a bottle shop, a bookstore, an ice cream shop, a bagel shop. Most of all, very friendly staff.
My favorite book store south of I-90. It has a relaxing vibe for browsing, and knowledgeable staff. Their staff picks are always great choices. Grab a book and ride a bike down to the water for a great afternoon. Hoping the restaurant opens up again soon too!
Great selection of cute queer romance and great recommendations, too! Always in stock.
I wish this place was in my neighborhood! So many options to eat, drink, read, play, chat with friends, neighbors and family!
This place has such a delightful selection of activities. Get lost looking in the well-organized sections of books for sale, attend a community event, grab a coffee and a snack at the coffee and beer section. While I miss the selection from the old cafe add-on, the location still has a decent basic espresso selection and a now expanded alcoholic beverage menu!
Phenomenal location.
A neighborhood bookstore with an awesome collection, people, and service. An unusually large selection of new titles with some well cared for used books too. I believe the Cafe is closed right now due to covid, but when it reopens it's a great place to sit and read or people watch.
A locally-owned bookstore inside a tap house. I'd move in permanently if that were an option.
Been here a few times! Great neighborhood! Used to be a PCC store, that I still miss!
I wonderful selection of books with great beer. The perfect spot to enjoy a good book in some nice weather.
Great bookstore. Wonderful selection of books.
Neighborhood gem!! Great selection and the food and drink vendors here are the cherry on top.
Nice neighborhood bookstore who are always willing to special order for you.
They did have some vegan options, but the food truck only had non-vegan bread. Great beer selection and cool atmosphere.
Love this bookstore, they have a great selection inside and when they dont have what were looking for it can usually be ordered in a couple days. We love it and are so happy to have found them. No more Amazon books for us! Supporting our local bookstore 😁 …
Always enjoy a trip to Third Place Books (Seward Park) ... wonderful local book store, w/ great employees! 😊 …
Lovely book store plus cafe. staff was very helpful !
Amazing bookstore located in the heart of Seward Park South Seattle. You’ll have access to a small coffee shop and restaurant, great way to get some work done on the weekends when necessary. Most of the staff is very resourceful and friendly, and their book selection is unbelievable. If something is not accessible, you’ll always have access to orders.
I love the combo of Chucks and a bookstore. Even has some games downstairs. Fun spot!
I was here for the first time ever today. We came in as a party of about 14. We were taken very good care of despite being a large party. One of our guests did not get her order. When the staff realized the error they were tripping over themselves in an attempt to correct the mistake. They rushed the order, and delivered it promptly. The manager delivered it himself. And then comped that part of our order. There was no point where I felt that we waiting over long, and everyone was so very friendly. The prices were great, and everyone agreed their food was good. I would like to specially point out the manager, whose name I didn't get, and the bar tender/server, whose name may have been Don - you are both treasures! Keep it up, Third Place! Great place to eat, visit, and purchase books.
Great bookstore. I especially love the selection of rare and collectible books.
Great place guess new or used books, all missed together so it's easy to look for deals. Great selection. Nice coffee bar for making it a place to stay and read or meet friends, with restaurant attached if you want a full meal.
Grab a book. It's a local bookstore. Their booksellers make good recommendations and they have a solid selection. The restaurant has gone downhill since new restaurant group took over management but it's serviceable if you're in the neighborhood. The coffee in the cafe is good. i like this place but i used to love it. that's why it's got 4 stars. I have hope that i can love it again.
I just love this book store. I go there alot for more than just books. Great coffee shop. Great events for kids, adults, and yup even for pets...I love the African American writer's meeting there and when they host Seattle public library adult reading programs...
I buy all my books here. An amazing selection of great quality used books at amazing prices as well as a large collection of both new and used books. the joint coffee shop makes this a cozy place to start reading whatever you just bought.
This is a very nice neighborhood bookstore with a pleasant restaurant (Raconteur). We are at the restaurant and browsed the bookstore. Portions at the restaurant are small, but the food is good. I had the fish tacos. They were very good. Fish wasn't over cooked and the sauce was excellent. Staff at the bookstore was knowledgeable and friendly.
It's a bookstore, bar, and restraint all in one. The vibe is chill. The staff is friendly. Children are here, but not taking over. Music selection is excellent. It is just a few blocks from Seward Park and is giving me a nice cozy reprieve after being in the wind for two hours. The tap wine is great!
Great selection of books and a really fun kids corner. We love to go look at the top and games and cards, browse books, look thru books, read books, and buy them. Wonderful perk that Raconteur is in the same space. Delicious food and great books. Win win
Beautiful book store, kind and helpful employees, great place for meeting with a friend for coffee or beer.
This place is pretty great bookstore to visit. Lot of books that are new and used with care. Trading in books always have a fair price and gain more if you choose in-store credit over cash in hand.
Be weary if the book you trade-in are popular. There's a limit of same titled books in their inventory no matter if they're hardcover or paperback.
Has a cafe on the store floor and a bar at the underground floor. Downside is parking is really small.
Our favorite local bookstore! Cafe is currently closed and you can only browse for 30 mons at a time, but we've picked up quite a few books already and their book clubs are now virtual
Nice venue, easy parking on the street if the parking lot is full. The bar downstairs is comfortable, but loud. Easy access restrooms. Service is kinda slow depending on your taste. Very nice neighborhood gathering spot.
Third Place are great! This is my top spot for selling my old books, as they usually pay out relatively well. Consequently, they have a great selection of rare and collectible books in their used section, and I've come away with quite a few treasures.
Nice bookstore/cafe/downstairs bar. Really nice design inside, warm wood color and great light. Loved my coffee and book last visit. Bike rack at the entrance because awesome.
Small bookstore that has a used book and buyback section, a little coffee shop area (didn't try) and amazingly a restaurant (didn't try it either) within, and I suspect there's a bar as well. Not bad. Lushly decorated with seasonal appropriate accents.
Third Place Books Seward Park has all the essentials - a good selection of books, both new and used (in good condition), an excellent coffee/espresso bar and a restaurant, Raconteur. TPB also has a good selection of magazines and journals. It's a great neighborhood meeting place and the bookstore sponsors book groups. You can also sell books here and get credit plus a 10% discount for a same day book purchase. I appreciate having an independent bookseller in the neighborhood.
Great selection of contemporary and timeless literature. Cafe and bar are a perfect touch! Highly recommend as a meeting spot or place to get some work done. Staff members are very friendly too.
Love this little gem. The best place near Seward to stop and get coffee or a quick bite to eat while studying or just looking for books. They have a great selection of old and new books.
Also check out the great bar downstairs. Free wifi!
Seriously love this place. Good coffee, beer, books, and place to work and hang out. Shop small, go here
Great place. Super hip. Enjoy coffee. Enjoy a bite to eat. Enjoy the books. I found a book I had never seen before. My interest is quite unique but I often find a treasure. Three Puget Sound lications. Check them all out.
this is my favorite book store ever; i refuse to go to any other one! they always have what i am looking for, and the staff are always so kind to me!
I think Third Place Books and the Raconteur restaurant are a wonderful place. I had a conversation with a friend over a really nice full bodied cup of their drip, after waiting while reading a book "Everything is F****" that I found there, which by the way I highly reccomend.
Afterwards I returned for a "Beyond Tree Hugger" meal, which was delicious. Anytime I have tomatoes with flavor, I suspect conciousness about the sourcing of their ingredients. That was amidst a eerily accurate-to-meat burger which was nice, plus more fries than was needed, which helped me on my hike for the day.
All this occured amidst a wonderful, spacious, well designed atmosphere of conviviality. It truly is the "third place" it aspires to be. Not work, or home, but a space where people can hang out, engage with new ideas, enjoy an eclectic mix of relaxing tunes at the proper volume, attend small concerts, have a great drink, and study. Free from expectations, Third Place creates a unique atmosphere.
The only reasons I deduct a star are this, They gave me a plastic straw withount asking, which is an unnecessary minor tax on the natural 🌎 world, and it is a bit pricey. But that is something to expect with a place this great.
Good job guys.
I love this little book store
Quaint bookstore inside a coffee house cafe. Great selection of books, friendly service, and good prices. Book clubs, newsletters and a darling children's section make it an almost daily spot for me and my grandson. Neat and clean.
Very good. Covid checks at the door and I was able to find authors not featured at main stream shops. One stop shop for minority authors and social books about current issues and such. Will visit again.
This place has a nice variety of books but also interesting readings be the author, and it's a good spot to pick up cards and gifts.
This bookstore was very well maintained, but there were not very many books to choose from. They lacked enough parking space to accommodate all of their customer, but I think it's due to the resturaunt that's connected to it. Overall, it's a really nice bookstore. It just sits in a bad location.
Close to home, good drink selection, and better book selection. Coffee is a bit expensive but that's Seattle for ya! Love the open layout and outside seating. I'll be here often!
So this is three of my favorite things, books breakfast and beer
A brilliant addition to South Seattle, and sure to become a cornerstone of the community. The book space is one of the most gorgeous in Seattle, with high ceilings, beautiful wood furniture, and clear signage. I find the selection phenomenal – a good mix of contemporary fiction, classics, relatively large and diverse nonfiction section. Quality of used/discounted books I've found is unparalleled; often they'll be in mint condition and recent editions.
On a recent visit I saw new bike racks, to promote biking. Cool!
It's a little odd how it seems kinda subordinate to the restaurant. And parking is ok -- it has its own small dedicated lot and plenty of street parking, but that street is just a mess - hard to turn left into, hard to see approaching cars on exit, etc. PCC, the previous tenant had the same problem.
Didn't know about this branch of the big beautiful independent bookstore that defines Third Place Books. Buys and sells used books. Try the tasty pretzel notes at the on site cafe.
Cute cafe and bookstore. I sometimes stop by to do work and I am quite productive. The cafe has a good variety of drinks and pastries. There is also a restaurant if you are in for a larger meal.
A great new and used bookstore, have a wide selection including some rpg manuals! Of the three third places, this one is an excellent choice, as the attached restraunt/pub has excellent food and beverages, and the staff is super friendly.
Okay, other reviewers are right, the staff are rude and pretty disengaged here and it’s a bummer. Upside is the place is cool and definitely has the potential to be even better! It’s more of a restaurant than a book shop and be warned that if you sit in the restaurant area with food from the cafe (they are next to each other but do separate service, I discovered), a small man will come by and rudely kick you out without much explanation.
Reasonably cozy atmosphere making it a very enjoyable browsing experience. The staff were very friendly and courteous.
I really liked third place books, but I was a bit disappointed in the scarcity of places to just sit and read a book in the store portion, as unpurchased books were not allowed in the restaurant area. Still a great place though, worth checking out!
Enjoyed Dr. Lasalle's discussion of his books, NY Times bestsellers Widow Walk, Isthmus, et al. While media presentations were not able to be met by the staff there, he kept us hanging with his masterful discussion and knowledge of local history. Food was sufficient, but nothing special. Coffee was noteworthy, beer tasteful. Got my belly filled and learned a ton.
Great selection and love access to the coffee shop/beer hall.
Favorite used book store. Great SF selections, good eats, lots of room to sit and read, free parking, multi-use building, and straight-forward used book sales. Our go-to.
Very nice collection of books. Place for small book club meetings and one can enjoy good bites with coffee while you enjoy reading.
This bookstore is super cute. It’s attached to a cafe so you can read your new book as you snack! I plan to come here many more times.
Cute with a decent variety of offerings. Dislike the sorting of your trash without a tray or countertop to rest so your sorting on.
Smaller and far less impressive. Nice staff but mostly geared to the LGBT lifestyle. Looking like the restaurant was killed by covid
New kosher deli and Chuck's Hop Shop makes this a great destination. A gathering spot for the neighborhood.
A fun place to visit, nice staff. M grandsons and I love the variety of books they have. I enjoy checking the discounted books.
Fantastic neighborhood staple! I love how hyperlocal it feels, how human, how it aims to be a place for community. Used and new books mixed together with thoughtful curation in a friendly space.
Great book store! I like their review notes and staff picks and that they're doing virtual book clubs during covid :)
Lovely, warm, bright and inviting environment! A beautiful bookstore with a great selection of alternative and bestsellers, a café, a restaurant, board games, etc.
Nice independent neighborhood bookstore. Staff is very helpful and friendly! Shop local!
I asked for suggestions on graphic novels depicting strong, creative women and "cashier bm" did not miss a beat--no pause, no moment to reflect--bam, bam, bam, three titles pulled from the shelf (there were more than three in-store). I like when I get assistance that is somewhat intimidating.
Great new and used books. Awesome kids section. Food at the attached restaurant is elevated pub food worth a try!
Great selection of both new and used books. Nice cafe and restaurant too. Will be back soon.
Love the new bagel spot inside! Special community place for Seward Park neighborhood!
Great place in overall experience. Good, since and good books. They also have story time for toddlers on Thursdays at 11 a.m.
Great local spot with autographed books. Can't wait to see Chuck's in there.
They order any book in which I'm interested, and have a curbside pickup system. Support your local bookstore, people!
Beautiful book store. Lots of open space and great café, restaurant and downstairs bar and shuffleboard.
I love this place! Books, restaurant, cafe, bar. It's more than possible to spend the whole day here. It's fantastic!
A terrific neighborhood bookstore with a great selection, helpful staff, and a lovely little restaurant and coffee shop.
Great place, great selection of books and good food. Good vibes, plus a cool bartender . Thanks Don.
Lovely bookstore. Great selection of books
Cozy shop with great selection and helpful staff. Between the books and the coffee I could spend a whole day here.
Have enjoyed this book store for a quarter century. Love new and used together. Always new surprises to read.
Great to have a bookstore like this in the community. I always try to buy my books here to support their business.
Lovely place to look at and buy an interesting book. Also has great tasting coffee.
Love this local book store and attached cafe! Great stop if going to/from Seward Park on the weekend.
Great selection of books. Good place to kick back for lunch or coffee and peruse a good read.
I try to visit this bookstore when I am in Seattle. Good selection of books, knowledgeable and helpful staff, good online newsletter, and lots of author events.
Free refills on their drip coffee is a big plus. Great selection of books.
Wonderful place to browse, read, laptop, eat, and visit. Great customer services, quick food service both upstairs and downstairs. 😊 …
Amazing neighborhood spot for books, conversation, brews, and kosher fare.
Have pretty much all the books I was lookin for the foods nothin special tho
Can I just live here? The staff is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. The selection is well-curated, given the smallish size of the store. I love it.
How fun! A book/coffee store with a cozy atmosphere and helpful staff. Dog friendly
Nice bookstore, the only one with a bar (independent business) on the lower level. This location previously was a PCC store.
Great variety of books, new remodel in progress should be co
Great new and used books, plus a cafe, PLUS an underground bar??? This place is insanely awesome!
Great customer service, bar below loud. Love the book buy back that gets me investing in good reads
Great reuse of the former Seward Park PCC Grocery store, and even better yet hand back decaffeinated espresso, poor restaurant menu selection.
Decent selection of books and a cool layout. The sale shelves had a lot of interesting things as well.
Great books, greeting cards and selection of children's books. Good adjacent restaurant
Great store. The space is warm and inviting. The further your go from the front, the darker and quieter it gets. Pick your poison.
Travis made me an oat milk latte - best coffee I've had in the US. Absolutely premium👌🏼 …
Small and quaint, good selection of all different genre
Love it. I got a Sherlock Holmes staff pick and it's so good.
Great selection of books food coffee and the bar downstairs is great.
The hidden gem in this mall, had no idea how big this bookstore was until I visited. Picked up few for my kids on the way out. Someone turned in my lost phone to the information desk. Thank you!!
Really neat vibe. Nice book selection. I like taking books I've read back for a discount on futere buys.
Excellent food and great selection of microbrew
Love this shop. Limited but curated selection. Great coffee too.
Great place to grab coffee or pick up a book. The bar downstairs is a sleeper hit
Love it! The food is great, the space is amazing. Great spot to spend an hour or so by yourself or with a kid.
Good coffee and book selection. Great place to spend a rainy afternoon.
Awesome brewery/bookstore. Great place to take a break and relax
Awesome place. Great books. Great coffee.
Book club is always a good time... Drink specials and great conversation!
A great independent book store with with extremely knowledgeable and helpful staff.
Great new and used bookstore. Friendly and helpful staff.
Great (big) little bookstore with cafe and restaurant adjacent
This is a lovely bookstore with a great selection and yummy food.
So happy to have this neighborhood gem! We can't wait to come back and try the restaurant.
Best bookstore with a bar I've been to!
Great beers and great employees
Perfect place to grab coffee and browse some paper to flip though during my day.
Nice quaint book store! Seating and eating areas!
Bookstores are the backbone of a well-maintained community.
Great bookstore, great remodel.
Friendly staff, great selection of books
Great neighborhood book store, great service

Nice bookstore with Raconteur restaurant in the same building
Nice combination of coffee shop and book store

Great to have a Third Place in the Seward Park area!

Nice place

Lots of books
Near my house..
This is only for the bookstore

I love this place.
Great place
Exceptional...
The staff is great, hands down. It is a lot going on in one space, so even though there's a children's section in the bookstore, the vibe of the place even during the weekdays (patrons, not staff) can seem less than welcoming of young children outside of where the kids books are.
Great place to hangout and grab a drink and snacks.
I was actually at Chuck's Hop Shop which is connected to Third Place Books so my rating is for Chuck's Hop Shop love that place. Very friendly people always make it a five star without that I couldn't give a rating above four no matter the product no matter the environment friendly people put it over the top heard and Truck Stop Shop is awesome
Great bookstore and the south one near Columbia city has food available too.
Excellent is all respects
