Reviews of Mercer Street Books
I spotted this pretty bookstore while strolling through the streets of Uptown. This store has a great collection of books and is aesthetically pleasing. Despite being a used bookstore it’s very organised. You can spend hours browsing here! :)
Bonus tip: Do notice the unique bookends on each shelf.
One of my favorite secondhand bookshops - great book selection, well organized with detailed section labels, and lovely decor. I love to browse and see what treasures I find - I seldom leave without a stack!
Beautiful shop, lovely selection which has been perfectly curated. If I lived here, I absolutely believe this would be my go-to first choice bookstore every time. My only beef is even though it's Stephen King Eyes of the Dragon should totally be in the fantasy section.
All bookstores are wonderful, and I wish I can visit Mercer Street Books everyday. I love its ambience and just enjoy perusing the titles. Most of the time I like to discover what I want to read on my own, but when I did have a question, she (maybe the owner?) answered it kindly. I really need to push myself and read more books this year.
This bookstore is a Seattle treasure. It houses a beautifully curated collection of old and new books in an intimate space that is filled with plants and collected objects (an old classroom clock, framed screen prints, a sculpted giraffe bust!). When you walk in it feels like you’ve stepped back in time. Be warned- you will want to linger! A great spot to take a date or spend a couple hours on a rainy afternoon.
The books are organized by very specific categories, which I love! It makes it super helpful when browsing. Plus, I love that all the books are used.
Good selection and easy to navigate. I found one of my favorite books that I hadn't seen in years.
I love this bookstore! I always find a book when I go in there (usually more than just 1). The owner is so lovely and helpful. It’s very well organized and they always have so many books that are in great condition. Half of my personal library is stocked with books from here :) I have to limit my visits so I don’t take the whole store home with me
PS- they allow dogs
Nice book store and some good collection. Wish there was a place to sit inside (unless I missed spotting it)
best book store in seattle. ambiance amazing, book selection fantastic, prices reasonable. buy your books from here
Adorable little shop. So much fun to browse, and I found some great gems. Super well-kept and clean. I wish this was my neighbourhood bookstore! As it was, it made for a very fun outing on my Seattle vacation.
Adorable little shop. Fair prices, especially when the 50¢ cart is outside! Owner is very friendly and nice to chat with. Definitely worth a visit when you're in the neighborhood.
Edit 8/31/18: I'm so sad for the loss of Mercer Street Books' owner, Debbie. She was a kind soul who created such a warm, inviting space. I will miss her, as will her family, staff, and other repeat customers.🌻
Wonderful experience for affordable quality books. Bought a few books including a complete works of Shakespeare
Probably the best selection out of any bookstore I visited (yes I have been to powells). Curated with fantastic taste.
Great selection and deals on used books. Parking is easy and nearby.
I love this place, maybe because this charming book shop helped me rediscover my love for reading!
Mercer Street Books caught my eye as I was waiting for the signal at the Mercer St, Queen Anne Ave N intersection. The shop just looked inviting. And I finally went in recently and browsed through the many options here! There was enjoyable music playing; quiet except for a few minutes where a group of customers were excited about the books (can’t really complain, though) 🙂. The collections for Mystery and Fiction are large, sections on Romance and Science Fiction are quite decent and then there are an assortment of other genres and some interesting finds stacked among them. Many of the books are second hand, but the books are in good conditions. I grabbed a couple of books on a whim and ended up reading through one of them the same day!
They sell, buy and trade books. If you’re a book lover or looking to discover the joys of reading, visit here!
I love book shopping and shopping for books here is just awesome. Everything is incredibly well organized in the store and the service here is exceptional. Do yourself a favor and stop in. You'll definitely enjoy it.
Fantastic place to find books as gifts, to fill in gaps in your collection, or just to read. Great selection of modern lit, with some nice signed copies sprinkled throughout. The owner has encyclopedic knowledge of what's on the shelves, and makes solid recommendations on what your next favorite book will probably be.
The best kind of neighborhood used bookstore. The selection is just delightful, and the atmosphere and layout of the store makes you want to stay forever.
When I moved to QA I didn’t expect to have such an awesome bookstore so close to me. I’ll do errands and look at the cart outside or wave at the window. When I do go and take a long trip, it’s such a nice quiet place—the shelves are amazing; there’s no wooden shelves like these anymore—and what’s on the shelf is amazing too. The book is filled with interesting titles, classic titles, and the rarest gem you’re hoping to find in a used bookstore. Also honestly out of all the shops I’ve visited this shop has a robust, unique, and diverse section on feminism and LGTB!!!! I appreciate it so much
This spot is like bookstore concentrate, an astounding curation of standards old and new and somehow always fresh - worth revisiting again and again.
Seems like a quaint spot for purchasing a book or chat with friends in standing room only.
A gem of a bookstore. Great quality used books at great prices.
I came here in November and I wanted to make sure I rated it so I remember to come back next time I'm in Seattle. The best thing about this shop was all the different book ends and decor 😊 …
BEST bookstore in Seattle. Anyone who loves a unique, utterly curated selection of new and vintage books at great prices needs to go here. What a beautiful store as well! Very clean, organized, smells great, and the details are adorable. Plants, themed book ends, custom pencils that are FREE. I love this place. And if you love reading, you will too.
I've recently rediscovered my love of reading, and one of the reasons was this bookstore. It's not particularly large, nor is the selection as diverse as a library, but I've found a lot of sci-fi, fantasy and history books here. It looks like "new" books are added pretty often too. They're all in good condition. I haven't seen any book with visible damage or more than superficial wear and tear. Overall, I'm happy to have this nearby to keep feeding my book addiction.
I am fortunate to live within walking distance of this incredible book store and I frequent it often.
It a beautiful store with a friendly owner and a very well curated collection of books. I always find something new or interesting when I come here and have bought many of my favorite books from this store.
I will happily patron it for as long as I can and recommend it to any book lovers in the area.
I find it difficult to pass up a bookstore, especially a used bookstore. Mercer Street was no exception. But it was a stop well worth it!
If you judge a "good used bookstore" to be one with lots of mixed and crowded shelves, you'll be sorely disappointed here. Not only is it neat and presentable, YOU HAVE A GOOD CHANCE OF LOCATING WHAT YOU NEED, or at least clearly determining that they don't have it.
Organized, clean, and friendly used book store with one of the widest ranges of topics I’ve seen at a store. Everything from books about books to history books to bestsellers to sci-fi. Fair prices. COVID safe.
cute little book store in queen anne. the books are reasonably priced and they have a good selection.
This is my favorite used bookshop of all-time. The store is incredibly well-organized, and there is always a great selection of books to choose from. I will choose this place over the big box book retailers and online distributors every time.
Beautiful bookstore. I had emailed in advance about selling a bunch of books and the employee replied. She told me that since I had so many books to sell to take pictures of the spine and email them back and she would be able to tell me which books they were interested in without me dragging all my books there. Amazingly easy and I don't know why I hadn't thought about that sooner... Thanks!!
Store Opens @ 11AM which is a bit late for my tastes, but is still a convenient pop-in location for anytime of the day. Prices are extremely fair, and the stock rotated pretty quickly too. I’ve made the mistake of deferring for a day, (spending-check/habit) only to find the book sold. Oh well! Check often.
It's great little book store with a decent selection for its size. I often find something cool when I go in there. Worth stopping by if you still love the smell and feel of a real book.
A nice convenient non sitting boom store 🏬. …
Adorable little bookstore. Small, but well stocked! And the prices are great! I love to go here and pick up poetry books, there is always a great selection.
Favorite book store in all of Seattle. It feels like a nice private library inside, and I like the staff, who are helpful and witty. This bookstore focuses on quality--nice editions, publishing houses, etc. Go for the skillful curation, not that blockbuster action novel your uncle told you about. I usually go in for classic French or Russian lit but end up leaving with a stack of other books as well!
I love this little secondhand bookstore. I found it several months ago, and I've been buying books ever since. I'm the type of person that prefers reading books on paper, rather than ebooks, but books can be rather expensive if you buy them new. This is a great solution for me! I come maybe once a month to check out the books. Staff is always very friendly.
A great book experience. A number of lovely children's books. Thank you.
just an absolute dream of a book store. somehow smells like you'd expect it to, in the best way. somehow filled with surprises! and of course, kind folks. what a lovely place
This is the best used bookstore in Seattle! The selection is outstanding, from academic to entertainment--they keep a great stock. The ambiance is perfect. I love passing time in the dense stacks and finding a new hidden gem.
Cute bookstore with a great selection and affordable prices.
This small used book store packs a lot of punch. I found quite a few books I haven't found at other places. The staff were courteous and helpful with myself and the other customers.
This book store is a real work of love. The orinal owner Debbie really made work. Sadly, her life was taken by cancer. But her dream continues with the people running it now.
What a wonderful place, I used to come here every weekend. Interesting books, a wide variety for such a small place and especially the person who is usually sketching is very kind and helpful!
They were nice to me and i got excellent service there. They had a large selection of books and i got 2 new bedtime story books for my nine month old daughter
My favorite book store in the country. You get the sense that the entire place is carefully curated (from the book selection to the decor). It's like visiting a friendly work of art.
What a great spot. An interesting collection of quality used books that seem carefully chosen. It's hard to imagine you won't leave with at least a few great titles
Stopped by once in a while and was happy to find books I've been looking for almost every time^^
Coming into Mercer Street Books offers me the opportunity to feel welcomed with all the time I need to view books.
Used book stores are few and far between. This is a great one! Well organized and owner was good to chat with.
A wonderful collection of used books. Very tidy and organized books on strong clean shelves
My first visit and hopefully not my last
Great choice of available books, and staff was so helpful picking out a book for my partner!
Wonderful used book store with a decent selection of books. I love how organized it is by category and author.
Very cute corner book store. Good selection, all the books are in very good condition. Lots of interesting variety.
Great bookstore, me and my family have been here many times and love the staff. Can also sell used books here.
Wonderfully organised store. Purchase 20 books .will have to pay excess baggage on my return flight to India 😊 …
Delightful. Great food reviews are true. A welcoming cocktail lounge. A return to this longstanding Queen Anne restaurant was not disappointing.
Probably my favorite Seattle bookstore. Great selection, wonderful, smart staff. I always find something I wasn't looking for.
Great little place not far from the Space Needle and museums. A lot of titles are in excellent condition. Some rare stuff as well.
Super cute bookstore. They may not have everything but the staff was really helpful and you find literature you didn't know you were looking for.
Used books store with a large collection of books at low prices. Most of the books have never been read as the store tries to buy books in great condition. The majority of the books in the shop appear new.
Fantastic local bookstore feel, outstanding selection. Be prepped to navigate the organization just a bit.
A peaceful little store with a great collection of books.
This adorable used book store hits all the right marks for a book lover or someone who just wants to wander the stacks, taking in the smells of used books.
Fabulous find for any book lover.
Lovely bookstore, beautifully organized and decorated!!!
Conviently located book store near the Seattle Center. Good, clean shop.
A wide selection of books from history to fiction, recommend if you want to find inexpensive novels.
One of my favorite places to go when I'm bored. The staff is so friendly, and I always find an inexpensive gem.
Great selection and great prices
Nice small neighborhood bookstore with a lot of used and old books. Friendly, too.
Only treasures. And very friendly staff and customers. It’s like its own small town.
Adorable used books store... very helpful staff as well.
This delightful neighborhood treasure makes finding something wonderful dangerously easy. The only thing it lacks is a proper shop cat.
Amazing used bookstore with tons of variety
A fantastic selection of books; well-curated and reasonably priced.
Used book store. Decent selection, but not large.
Best small bookstore in the city. Decent prices.
I get most of my reading material from their and they also buy books for cash or in-store credit.
