Reviews of Kinokuniya Seattle
Terrence Mahnken
Such an amazing place! I could have spent all day there. They had all sorts of Japanese literature, manga, toys, and stationary.
The staff was friendly and helpful. I wish I would have brought a bigger suitcase so I could have brought home more goodies.
You will not be disappointed.
Life With Us
I could be here all day! Plan to be in kinokunia for 1+ hours. Manga, books, magazines, figurines, funko, cards, they have it all!
They were decently priced. Some things were a bit on the expensive side, especially with Washington tax, but it wasn’t much more than what you would pay online.
Millie Kwan
Kinokuniya is where you want to be if you are into Manga. It's simply amazing. There is a Japanese, a Chinese, and a English Manga section. The English section is upstairs so don't despair when you don't find it on the lower level. They also have a small amount of washi, novelty pens, stuffed animals, Manga figurines or all things Japanese. Really enjoyed shopping there and found Manga that I haven't seen on Amazon and I might not have seen because the algorithms push you only certain books.
Brendan Zhang
Good Japanese specialty store. Most of the stuff is quite expensive but it’s imported from Japan. Fairly wide variety of merch, stationery and manga. Store is a bit cramped and smaller than the New York location.
Kylene
Must stop if you love cute things or are into Japanese culture! Lots of adorable things here that aren’t available in the NYC Kinokuniya.
shino asada
Amazing store! Lots of items and had a second floor that sold manga English. The items are not cheap but great place for anime fans!
Mr Bird
I just recently moved here and I haven't gone to many places, but Kinokuniya is so far my favorite place to go. You could spend hours there looking at all the stuff they have, and they have a fantastic selection of notebooks, sketchbooks, and journals. Plus they have a decent selection of fountain pens, and a giant selection of writing utensils in general. If you're a pen or pencil nerd, this is the place to go.
Jessica Pérez
Super cool bookstore! Very much about Anime and K-Drama and all kinds of unique Asian pop culture things!
Jbbouvardia
Fun place to visit. Gets extremely full inside the store. Best time to come early morning when they open or near the end of closing. Otherwise, it's elbow to elbow inside during the afternoon. Sometimes there's a line forming outside the inside entrance.
Dawn Lamond
SO BUSY 😂 You kinda had to just follow behind people and look quickly. Tons of great Japanese and cute stuff and gaming stuff and art supplies! Not a cheap place, adds up quick - be sure to look at the price tags! …
Owyn Dominick
I love this bookstore. They have an amazing selection of writing utensils and other stationary supplies. I have a membership that I've had for years, since I lived in Illinois previously, I will say the Seattle location is bigger and better stocked than the Arlington Heights location.
The only major down side is that the upstairs, while accessible if you ask the staff (this isn't marked) is very complicated to get to and involves going out into uwajimaya and taking a staff elevator. It makes it seem like disabled people have no way of accessing the upper floors, especially since it's not marked. The workers were more than happy to help me get up there, though, so it didn't feel too bad.

Kinokuniya is a unique Japanese book and stationery store in the Seattle International District. It is two blocks walking distance from the Link Light Rail station....so easy to arrive at. It is co-located with the Japanese grocery store Oujimaya. A visit here for books,, stationery or foot would not fail to be a nice day's outing.
Aidan Kircheim
Firstly, I'm a stationary nerd married to a book nerd. We had a great time here, even though it was a bit crowded. To be expected this time of year. Aside from the cute plushies and wonderful selection of manga, there is also an array of different pens, pencils, stickers, envelopes, etc. I was so happy to see Coleto Multipens and refills here, and Jibun Techo journals - it really made my day. The only reason for 4 stars is because the upstairs needs some cleaning and reorganization for all of the product to be seen better. It was fun to peek around and dig but I also feel like there was stuff we missed because there were some piles of things about. Maybe just a lot of stock during the holidays, will definitely be back multiple times. Can't wait to go in the new year when it's a slower day and take our time to really look around. Highly recommend!!
Russell Sickler
This is one of my favorite little chinatown shops for unique gifts with an Oriental flare. And since it is located inside of a grocery store, it's easy to drop in and browse. Anime stuff and my fave, Yu-Gi-Oh cards.
ubernewb (ubernewb)
love poking around this store! seems like every time I go down there they have a fresh assortment of imported awesomeness to browse thru. a must-stop any time I head downtown
momo
Absolutely love this bookstore. It's so hard to walk out of here without purchasing a good read, an abundance of adorable plushies or unique stationary items. You will find so many things that you will end up in this store for countless hours. I love that they carry books from Yuko Higuchi here. The staff is always so wonderful and helpful!
Darin S
Great place for Otakus/weebs, and also K-pop fans. I bet there is over 7,000 books including manga, lightnovels, magazines, etc. There are also many fingiuries, accessories, and merch that many would love. Honestly, it's the best store in America that I know.
Sharon Powers
I stopped at the import store because I had called earlier they had said they have a certain item in stock. So I 1st ran to the location and sure enough they have it. It was a pilot fountain pen. The gift was to be for my daughter who is in the hospital recovering from a burn. She is such a wonderful daughter that I wanted to get her something special. This beautiful purple pen would certainly fit the bill.
Looking around I further found some beautiful paper for her to write upon. Some of the paper had beautiful flowers with matching envelopes, I got those. Another stack had a whole invelop'd full of loose papers with different types of looseleaf paper. Yet another have a tablet that was similar to handmade paper, I got this one for her as well. Then I picked up a few more envelopes for her, and walked on to another section.
Soon I found I had walked all over the store. How interesting each section was, I found met so many things to keep my interests and it was hard not to keep wandering letting one thing lead me to another. I just covered the store had such a wide variety of imported goods that it is hard to classify them all. This is a large store, filled with shoppers Kala so come prepared to do battle to get whatever it is you need.
I did find the clerks and assistance, very helpful, attentive , and courteous. When I was wrong up my transaction was accounted for efficiently and professionally. While the store is well laid out, I think handicapped persons link find it difficult to meanders through here. There is a second floor, and I did not see an elevator. I don't know for sure if there is one or if there is not 1I just did not see it.
Charity Nauman
Always a cute comfortable place to visit in Seattle. Such cute notary, art supplies, books, keychains, stickers, you name it. Anime section upstairs as well as tons of manga. Studio Ghibli merch as soon as you walk in! Even onesies and hats. The perfect gift shop/bookstore/anime merch.
Protato
If you are a fan of the culture this place is the hotspot for you. Anything ranging from figurines, to novels, Seattle assorted items, etc. Great stop to visit if you're in the area.
Michael Natkin
Inside Uwajimaya, Kinokuniya offers a great selection of Japanese language books, English language books about Japan, all manner of kawaii stuffies and tons of art supplies. And manga. And anime. And all the things. If you love Japan, you could browse for hours.
Helen Ell Tran
I love the stationery supplies and cute items in the store. I always find something new and interesting when I am in the store. The mechanical pencils are expensive but well worth the cost. I love my pencils from there.
Perry Low
Wonderful snippet of Japan life, a book store directly from there; My only disappointment is the disappearance of their fiber crafting section. When this bookstore first opened, there was an abundant and fabulous section with all manner of: knitting, crochet, lacemaking, felting, etc - and showcasing the uniquely Japanese take on these crafts - SIGH - but no more ... So only 4 stars, not 5.
Ayon Ibrahim
Super legit Japanese speciality bookshop
With more than just books - many awesome gifts and Studio Ghibli memorabilia that had me swimming in nostalgia
Josh Perlstein
This is probably my favorite location, comparing against the New York Kinokuniya. It's so fun, and there's so much to explore, especially if you're into design, art, writing, stationary, or anything Japanese pop culture. I make a point of stopping here any time I'm nearby and grabbing some new pens and anime keychains.
Professor Nils
It's an alright bookstore if you want some Japanese comic books. Their English selection was lacking but it's clearly not their target audience. I was looking mainly for Berserk or Dragon Ball books but I couldn't find any of either and I ended up with some little Gacha toys and a Gundam when leaving. They actually gave me a cool Gundam Tote bag and a Pin for picking one up which I thought were really neat perks for a 25$ action figure.
Max Maxwell
Good selection. Also has a good selection of books in Chinese as well. Many Japanese language learning books, a few Chinese language learning books. Didn't see much of other languages but wasn't looking for them either.
It has a section of stationary, pencils, pens and brushes that is pretty good as well.
Kristen Herbst
A bit of a hike but interesting to shop in the bookstore and the Asian food market. We found several books. They had a lot of other merchandise as well.
Drew Owen
Very busy! But that's the expected vibe here, so understandable. Mostly a place for tourists, but enjoyable to browse and you always leave with something you didn't intend to buy when you came in!
Christiane Dolezal
This is the best most interesting fun and lovely book store/toyshop/ art store to find yourself in and lose some time in.. their selection of books is hands down amazing.. their knick knacks are also amazing and one of a kind.. alot of stuff from brand kikkerland fun stuff and lovely selection of Japanese imported books stories magazines and coffee table books full of art from mostly Japanese artists but artists all over too really.. they have a little magazine section in the back by the strictly imported Japanese magazines and books in the back that includes some really hard to find amazing little monthly zones from all over the states and Europe like 2600 hacker magazine and off the wall European fashion or broccoli the cannabis lovers monthly magazine and a whole lot more. They are a little expensive since everything is imported but you can still find a couple of cool little things here and there for an affordable price.. also their art supply section is just superb and they carry a lot of really awesome cool hard to find top quality company name products and alot of the stuff in the art supplies smaller products are actually very affordable like the refill inks or just solo purchased pens and markers or refills at least.
Jazzy Lynx
I really love this store, they have a huge variety of things like books, merch, stationery, and some other cool things! Plus they don’t just have merch for the well-known anime/manga! The only downfall is that some of the staff aren’t very nice
James Sovick
Really cool place! Has complete japanese volumes of manga and. Other books. They also have all the stationary items one could need with endless notebooks, bens and organizers. Highly recommend
Douglas Beasley
Kinokuniya is a wonderful book store with the finest paper products, stationary and writing instruments with many uniques items from Japan.
Madeleine Thorell
Great selection of manga, both in Japanese, Chinese and English. Large assortment of pens, notebooks and other office necessities. Nice anime figurines and art books. Highly recommend visiting all the way from Sweden 😄 …
LTBrandonLT
Goated art supply selection. And their art books are nice for the niche audience.
Tuugasala Leiato
Friendly workers. They have a vast manga collection. Great place for people who respect Japanese culture.
six raccoons in a secondhand patagonia jacket
Always busy but perfect for finding gifts for the stationary or Japanese pop culture lover in your life.

sometimes you just gotta let out the otaku within you
Two floors of goodness
Ben Beaumont
This place has all kinds of cool pop culture stuff, art supplies manga, figures. Great prices too! We also really like making a trip here because the shopping center it's in has this wonderful little stand that sells waffle style fish desserts. I can't remember what they were called off the top of my head.
Tery Lockitski
I love a good stationery store. I'm also discerning when it comes to high quality stationery products . Having said that, it’s important to note that this one his all marks. High quality Japanese stationery and gifts with whimsical and fun themes, a well thought out store Layout, and a good mix of practical products makes this one worth every star. in addition, Customer service is attentive but not overbearing, this location is very convenient to public transportation, and The store is very well stocked given the supply chain issues during this pandemic.
Gabe Lapingcao
Lovely store, not only has manga in English but the Japanese versions as well! They also have Chinese and Korean merchandise if you're interested.
NH Hussin
My favorite Japanese bookstore! You can find so many selections of manga and stationeries here. The only reason I give 4 stars is because the store is small and always crowded. I like to get some Japanese snacks from the grocery store too because they’re gooood!
Ace Tran
Very large selection, and although it usually comes at a slight mark up there are hard to find manga and light novels here.
KW
Went here after a Mariners game. This store is 2 stories with tons of stuff packed in there. Lots of cute items. It's a little difficult to move around in here if there are lots of customers. We stopped in so our kids could look at the manga. Kids said it was a good selection with the Japanese manga downstairs and the English manga upstairs.
Yusuf Scott
This store has a large selection of manga, and other books. I like coming here to peruse their books, and many other items. They have manga in Japanese, Chinese, and English. The store is always busy when I'm there, and can be quite crowded. However, it's still a fun experience. It's definitely a dangerous place for my wallet lol.
Alexa Asturias
Visit here for all of you who are in love with studio Ghibli items!!
Staff are super friendly and helpful, prices are decent, and there is A LARGE selection of books, notebooks, prints, plush toys, and beyond!

Laura Ruiz
One of my favorite places to shop for cute plushies, stationary items and a huge selection of manga!
Al W
The place is huge. Plenty of book selection and anime items for all ages
Jessica Kanehen
Wonderful store! We went around 1pm on a Saturday so it was pretty busy. There were a variety of items to buy including books, stationary, Funko Pops and knickknacks. There is something for everyone to enjoy and purchase.
Saff M
Bit messy, when trying to navigate the space, but it could be that a remodel is underway. However, they have a great selection, as expected. First time buying Japanese stationary and its reputation holds up. And the associates at the stationary help desk were able to grab me some refills for the specific pens I ended up choosing and were very knowledgeable.
Rebecca Holmes
Always fun, especially during the holidays when they've got extra fun gifty items 🛍 …
Ma Ligaya Ako
Anime posters to all.kinds Asian flare they have it here. I love their books and the all pens.
Stephen Clark
Great stop for art books and other gift odds and ends.
If you live in Seattle, this is a great option for books and all manner of collectibles. The stationery section is robust, as well.
For art books, manga and western comics, they have a selection that gets new options regularly but not so often that I feel obligated to check in more than once a month.
Duncan Sheik
What a wonderful bookstore! I walked by this store and one day changed my mind. I was surprised! Now it is my favorite place to visit! Kinokuniya Bookstore has lots of books, comics, books, and Japanese magazines. There are so many interesting and fascinating items! You will definitely find something special for you or for your friends. Very cute bookstore!
Amanda Gentry
Great selection of Manga, light novels, as well as other books and genres! They also have a great selection of merch and magazines! Located next to Uwajimaya, and Bean Fish! We make the trek from Monroe often!
Dian DIAN
Soooo great to meet a Japanese bookstore here! LOVE all the cute little things and mangas !
Chloe S
I was excited about this store - it did not disappoint. Incredible variety of books and anime merch. The staff were lovely too. :)
Skywalker Feng
A hidden treasure in Chinatown, filled with huge selection of Japanese books, comics, music and video, gifts and souvenir hard to find anywhere else in the States.
Ashley Lee
So much is great here. Friendly staff, good prices, wide variety of books, more manga than anywhere else, and so much anime related merchandise.
Josh Velasquez
The art books section is so cool, I could spend all day in there
Jean-Carlo Barrera (mistaepik)
Manga, Fountain pens, and stationary galore! Very helpful staff
Simren Randhawa
Such a cool place! I found a lot of anime/manga merch and had a hard time choosing what to pick up.
Sue Jin Choi
A lot of the items have some steep prices despite being available for purchase nationally (as in, not imported). However, the selection variety is amazing and they have decent prices for imported stuff. Love stopping by here anytime I go to Uwajimaya.
Ranae Fithian
Awesome Asian book store! They have a great selection of novelties, stationary/desk items, & k-pop merch as well as books. It was a bit tricky to navigate (esp. if you’re trying to social distance), the store is not set up well for how busy it gets & they seem a bit short staffed at the moment. Other than that, a fun spot to snag some of your favorite Studio Ghibli merch!
Alan Hirotani
Continues to be a very busy place. Or did everyone decide to shop today? Long lines .. fairly crowded. But that's better than the alternative. It's been a few years since my last visit. So a bit overwhelmed. It's all good. Will try again.
John Moore
What great service!! I called hoping to find some old back issues of a magazine. They didn’t have them. I thought that was the end of it. Then I got a call back telling me that there are none in Seattle or Japan but that the New York store might have them! Turns out they did! Now my magazines are on the way thanks to the kindness and diligence of this awesome man! I am very happy!
Rachele McKelly
This place is great! It is often crowded and the flow of traffic needs a bit of work (a touch wider aisles) but there is a lot to look at! Toys, comics, stickers, knickknacks, pillows, books, puzzles, coffee mugs, plant pots, fancy pens, etc. Definitely a fun place to go.
Carl Liu
Their anime collections in Chinese were very limited. Overall great.
Lucent Designs Media
Fantastic store! A very nice variety of Asian media and the reasonable prices too!
cara carpenter
Such a fun and wonderful shop I could spend hours here and be very very happy!!!
Tyson Pettegrew
Knowledgeable staff + great selection = Amazing Experience.
A brick and mortar store with people you can't get online. This place is so easy to geek out at. I've been a huge fan of manga and Japanese culture since I can remember. If those are an interest of yours, you should come here.
Joshua Davenport
Amazing! SO MUCH COOL STUFF. One of the best manga bookstores I have ever been to. If you are in the area or if your aren't I recommend you go here. They have most of the series you would hope to find, as well as a large selection of figures and other merchandise!
Carson Zhou
Yes omg!!! Great collections of Japanese and Chinese books but was mildly annoyed that wait in lines for checkout is way too long.
Parker Gandall
Great selection of things, plenty of stationary, and so much studio ghibli! But. It's difficult to navigate if you're stuck with a bulkier mobility aid. If you can walk for a bit of time and climb stairs, do it. Otherwise, you're going to need a buddy who can go down the narrow isles for you.
Update march 1 2022, it's undergoing renovation and it's looking good so far! The aisles are brighter and I didn't notice any flicker!
Gary Jelks
A nice place to shop.
Plenty of products to choose from.
Queues in store moved quickly.
Staff were friendly and helpful
Ben H.
This is an awesome store to visit. There are two floors. The first floor has books in Asian languages, Japanese manga, and lots of cool gifts and accessories, including official Studio Ghibli merchandise! The second floor is entirely anime-themed, with tons of anime gifts and merchandise as well as tons of English-translated manga. Service is friendly and the store is quite cozy. I really enjoyed my visit here.
If you plan to buy merch and souvenirs here, come ready with a fair bit of spending money as most items are a bit on the expensive side due to being imported or otherwise quite exclusive. However, the prices are quite fair considering those factors.
Della Does
Fun! Soooo much to look at! I missed the whole upstairs and all the manga so I guess I'm gonna have to back!
Jake Badilla
Great store awesome inventory. Its my favorite bookstore
Eugene Lin
Such a fun store to explore! They've got fancy Japanese pens/pencils/markers, cute stuffed animals, everything featuring that little sad egg guy, a bunch of anime books and figurines, and more.
krissia lauren
They don't really carry Jpop DVDs, Albums. Mostly Kpop.
Sharon Kurasaki
They have such a great selection of Japanese books, and they said if we need anything that we can't find they can always order them for us. The problem was there was so many to choose from, we had a hard time choosing. We're so lucky to have this great Japanese bookstore nearby.
Andrew Brandon
Neat, clean, great variety, nice space, helpful staff
naruto28291
They have great selection of Manga for sale
Claire Robson
Wonderful shop with great selection of toys, books and stationary.
Ewnet Worku
I originally went to this store because my kids wanted Manga books, but I have found many wonderful things while I wander around waiting for them. They have beautiful pop up cards, a great selection if calligraphy pens, notebooks, gifts and of course books. Employees are helpful and I like that drinks and food aren't allowed and hand sanitizer at the entrance/exit
Crystal Brendel
Looking for a good book? Or a cool gift from somewhere exotic and steeped in culture and tradition? Well check out
きのくによ this place is amazing! With many different languages and levels of learning, you won't be disappointed. Can't find what your looking for in this 2 story bookstore, then check in with the staff as they can help you find your favorite manga and order it too! Want to learn a new language? They have a great selection of Asian books to choose from.
Lain Shosho
I absolutely love this store! They always have something I want even though I don’t come in with anything in mind. It’s definitely a great place to find manga, magazines, books and more!
maggie230885
Great place to go shopping for groceries or to eat and have lunch and if you're into anima awesome place to shop for merch or manga's.
Keith George
First visit. Awesome place to experience a bit of Asian(Japanese) culture. I recommend, if you've never been.
Ernesto Haibi
Haven't been here in four years. Selection is smaller, redecorating killed a lot of space.
Mikel McFall
I love Kinokuniya, I used to go to the one in Little Tokyo (DTLA) all the time, so I'm glad to have a wonderful and familiar store here. It being connected to Uwajimaya is also very convenient
Olivia Beringer
One of my favorite places to go, this store is huge!! Wide selection of Japanese manga and Chinese manga on the first floor, and English manga upstairs.Tons of magazines, Asian literature, anime merch, trinkets, and more! And their studio ghibli section is absolutely precious :) highly recommend!
Grotten Skeksi
This place and the adjoining food court and grocery is so freaking cool. I wish there was more interesting stuff like this where I was from.
Evan Newton
This place is one of my favorite gift shops. Cutest stationary, and adorable toys for all ages. Manga, anime, and other books, too. Lots of educational material as well for aspiring global citizens! They are renovating right now, but the impact is very low.
Yizu Lulu Yeh
One of my favorite book stores in Seattle. Lots of Japanese and Chinese books. Ordering books from Asia is also do able. The exchange rate applied was ok.
Thabata Regiani
I always enjoy coming here, not only for the variety of book and mangas, but also for the people watching - almost every time I stopped by I saw people in cosplay shopping around.
They also carry a nice variety of gifts, and being inside Uwajimaya is another plus.
The only turnoff is the price - everything is very expensive (at least for my budget), so come prepared.
Josh Tischler
Extensive selection of manga and art books in both Japanese and English. Not to mention the various other collectibles and stationery on the first floor. It's very cool that they sell officially licensed Studio Ghibli merchandise, too.
Constance Miles
My kid adored this store and it was interesting, even for me :)
Tatchai Titichetrakun
It is great to have a Japanese bookstore here in Seattle but the price is so expensive compared to the price in Japan.
Joey Kolber
I have always loved Kinokuniya. They always have awesome stuff to find. It's fun just to browse and see the Japanese goods, but I do also find some things to buy that I'd have to otherwise get online, like figurines.
Maxine Soth
The best place for any anime/manga lover! Come often cause some unknown shows can get a discount, and there's always new manga getting put in! Recently I've seen some translated light novels too, buy some so we can support the author and get more! :D
Ashley Sindelar
This is a dream for anyone who enjoys anime, manga, or Asian culture. There is a huge selection of books and manga in Japanese along with a lot of popular anime/manga merch. There are also hundreds or books and manga in English as well. I definitely wanted to buy pretty much one of everything.
Mikhaella Walden
I know this is primarily a book store, but as a stationery addict, this place is so cool!
Cyndi Brown
The staff was very friendly and helpful. I have been looking for traveling chopsticks and couldn't believe it. They actually had them. She helped me locate them in the shop. So glad we stopped in.
Jazmyne Jones
This is my first anime store I've found in my area and when I'm telling you that it was an amazing store and you should drop by sometime I really mean it! So many fun and nice people who like everything from k-pop to manga to anything! I can't wait to go back!
Tatiana Turner
Wonderful bookstore with a large variety of products and gift items. Great place to pick up manga. The staff is very nice and they can hold items for a few days for you too.
Angela P
The staff is friendly and leave you to yourself unless you need their help. The store itself is amazing, it's two levels! The upstairs being all manga and anime merchandise. There's also a funko pop wall with limited selection. Downstairs is filled with interesting books, but the main attraction are the trinkets and giftshopesque stuff. Lots of cute stuffies, stationary and pens, and gadgets. They carry ghibli, bts, sanrio, and sm more. Mainly japanese imported and japanese merchandise.
Isabelle Saunders
It was an amazing experience, everything is labeled and easy to find. They're handling changes this pandemic is causing very well. They have a vast assortment of supplies and goods, all of which are amazing quality. They have many Manga and novel series that are up to date and a great price. Will definitely bring my friends here again and again. 😁☺
C Yonker
Lots of great food, and dishes. Love the ready to eat items.
Shannon Ke
The bookstore feels very authentic, like you took a step into Japan. The stationary, plushies, and novel selections were diverse and plentiful. If you are not japanese or can read japanese though, >50% of the store is kinda off the table. There are some translated novels and manga though.
Aysun Bascetincelik
This is my go to store for all my stationery needs, especially when I need higher quality stuff. I also love their choice of magazines, toys, plushies etc. During COVID times, they’re restricting the number of people in the store and just recently there was a huge line outside. I’d recommend checking out how busy it is before heading there, especially during weekends.
inanna mystyrica
The staff is both caring of safety and providing excellent customer service. I love that they have a wide selection of both English language and Japanese language books. Their huge manga sections (both English and Japanese languages) keep myself and my son very occupied.
Paolo Gómez
There is always something new I want to buy! Get more Tokidoki stikers
Louisa
to start off, kinokuniya is an EXTREMELY fun store to be in! shelves and shelves of books and manga and stationary and plushies, it's almost overwhelming how much cool stuff there is to look at. There's a Japanese and a Chinese section as well as an English section, which is all fine and dandy and really convenient for those who only speak one of those languages and maybe not the other. It's a rather large store, but things are packed tight so it gets a little claustrophobic occasionally, but this is pretty easy to avoid if you know where you're going. The second floor is usually where I spend most of my time, and I suggest you take a peek up there if you haven't done that yet :) the staff is nice and respectful, and overall, if you don't get super stressed out about having a bunch of options and cool things you can buy, this is a really great store to spend some time in.
Kianna H
I love seeing what this shop has to offer. The prices are pretty average, but the variety can't be beat. They always have such cute merchandise, even if I don't buy anything, I love stopping by.
Christina Ng
Great store for manga!
Thomas Kim
Excellent unique finds for all ages.
christhesmith
Still discovering treasure here after 5+ visits. The stationary section is truly divine.
Tons of individual Copic markers (and other brands) available.
Andrew Pang
Although things tend to be a little pricey, I get my fill of anime merchandise here, so I'm happy it exists at all! I'm curious if this location differs from other locations, as I also enjoy looking at foreign imported stationary and comparing that to local stationary items...
Mustard Mission
They always have so much to look at and to buy, aside from a lack of monster hunter (which there isn't much to really sell for monster hunter anyway), there was a vast variety of anime and manga merch.
Kevin M. Drury
Very nice store with a large selection!
Palomita Bonita
Super Kawaii i bought a bunch Kawaii! super cute bought a bunch of manga they have a lot of manga love their service super kind lots of stationary and anime figures great place for anime lovers and sanrio lovers lots of stickers
Henry Meyer
They were great. The staff was very helpful and nice. They didn't have what I wanted in stock thought. But overall, the selection was great and had many different kinds of books from learning Japanese to books in Japanese about learning English. Great place to go if you want manga too, but it is mostly in Japanese, so of you don't k ow how to read it food luck.
Sarai Garcia
Love the variety of items they have here.
Tsukkuyomi Kokuryuu
It's a fun cute little place. I never have any issues here and it's one of the few places that always stocks one of my favorite book series. It takes time to get to but it's worth it for a bookstore that feels cozy and has cute stuff.
Joshua “JGar92” Garcia
A Japanese bookstore. They have books in Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and English. The actual English book selection is small and limited. As with most bookstores in Japan, a huge area of the store is dedicated to manga, stationary, and gifts. The entire second floor is dedicated to manga and manga-related trinkets and paraphernalia. Most of the manga on the second floor is in English; almost all of the manga on the first floor is in Japanese.
Derek Jeffries
My wife loves the manga selection here. There are so many books you cannot find anywhere else but online, and considering we prefer to buy local if possible, that makes this location one of the only places you can get a lot of books. The people are friendly, and the place is kept clean and organized.
Corwyn Shaugnessy
I'm from out of state. This place is amazing and overwhelming for those of us from the fly-overs. Highly recommend. So cool. Experienced wonderful customer service.
John McCauley
Great asian focused book store. Lots of foreign language books, manga, and magazines. Plenty of selection in English as well. Large selection of toys and games, specifically japanese blind box toys, character plushies, and memorabilia from many popular series.
Spencer Nilsson
A cramped store filled to the brim with (mostly Japanese) materials and merch. A diehard weeb's dream, no doubt. I really like their stationary corner!
Alysia Kang
This store is always really nice. They're clean, organized, and just jam-packed with books, stationary, and other cool things. I think you can always find something new or interesting to look at. Staff are always great as well.
Samantha Huston
If you're a stationary or writing utensil connoisseur, this is the place for you. The book selection is great and the upstairs section of current anime merchandise is expansive. This is a place you can get lost in for a long while or run in for a quick trip if you need to. It's not very handicap friendly as the aisles are narrow and you can feel claustrophobic if it's busy. But it's an amazing store you should visit once.
Mitchell Huber
Fantastic Japanese literature store in Uwajimaya. I go there for Manga primarily and they have a good selection upstairs of stuff I wouldn't find at Barnes and Noble. Keep in mind all prices are MSRP there for all that, no discounts that I could see unless their membership program has rewards or something.
Amanda Warren
We love this bookstore; we never know what to look at first but we always find something we just have to have. They have a very wonderful selection. Great cleaning and sanitation at the door during covid times. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Saharla D.
I went there 2 days ago, and it was amazing! Kinokuniya's books are very diverse in Asian literature! I bought the Demon Slayer manga, and they had it in English and Japanese! Also Uwajimaya Village is very exciting to be at! (for people who want to buy manga or anime related things, go on the 2nd floor of Kinokuniya Bookstore.) I'll definitely be going there again!
Tony Demma
Japanese, English, and Chinese selections with plenty to choose from; lots of books but also anime DVDs and Manga, plenty sealed in plastic (I found Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop and others). There's also a dedicated Studio Ghibli section. The anime/manga area includes art books, drawing books, some figurines etc from different anime as well as Godzilla.
Dana D
Great place to buy manga! It gets a bit crowded on the weekends but that's expected due to the location. It's a cool place to walk around after a big meal in Chinatown.
- Lon
Love. This. Store. So many cute finds but also great reads! I picked up a book about the Koreas. I wish they had a larger selection of Korean books but all in all it’s a great store. If you speak or are learning Japanese or even Chinese you’ll be in heaven.
John Powers
Clean, well organized store. Friendly, helpful staff, book sections clearly labeled. The upstairs is for anime. I called ahead to check, and they definitely carry a wide variety of high end fountain pens, as well as Pilot metropolitan pens. Great stationary section and magazine section.
Benji Tri
While it's not completely my cup of tea, I'm giving the place full stars because it completely fulfills its mission: to be a wealth of Asian and Asian-related books and materials, from language to Manga, Anime to BTS. Plenty of stores in the surrounding market as well.
Baselle 5000
I love shopping here for Japanese stationary, crafts, washi tapes, anime and of course cute stuff. They have a whole section of magazines translated into Asian languages.
Loretta Pirozzi
This store is in the Uwajimaya building and the stores connect inside. Great store, tourist prices. Fun to shop. A lot of "cute" stuff. Wander in and browse or look for some unusual school supplies. They have a great selection of jigsaw puzzles at outrageous prices. If the pieces are well constructed and not all the same shape they could be worth the price. They also have stuffed avocados.
KChin
Amazing place! I want to go back again when I'm in Seattle! Tons of cooool stuff! A must for anime/manga fans!
Charice
They have so many books! I love it! They may not have sign language (as just a regular learning book) but they have baby sign and that's just as good. Really a nice place if you're learning Japanese or away from Japan.
Tanakorn Leesatapornwongsa
Good place to shop Japanese related books
Michele Barutha
Such a great book store! My favorite is the stationary in the store. They carry actual stationary and not just boxes of cards. I'm a big letter writer so this place is a go to for those needs. Also I'm a bit of a die hard Sailor Moon fan and their collection makes me happy.
Peter King
Lovely store. Huge selection of Asian authors and of course comics but the magazine rack is the star of the show!
Rox Hoskins
I only wish the stationary section itself was larger!
Jack Yimbunlue
Not a huge store but has many cool Japanese items like manga, bags, stationary, figures, pins, and many more! I rated 4/5 because it didn't have what I liked but I did bought many anime stuff. Not much air conditioning so it can get hot if you're wearing a thick coat inside.
pnw max
Excellent selection of unique items, books, anime, and much more. Pricing higher than commercial shops, but it’s quality items versus modern store bought stuff.
Adam Saunders
Favorite place to buy cool pens and paper
greg wimer
Lots of things called books . If that's what you want we'll then there you go
Alex Braiden
A hidden gem, easy to miss among all the other stores. Great variety of fillings and delicious waffles
Issei DeBlieck
Fun store lots of cute stuff
Devin Heath
Good store, kinda caught us off guard that its inside a grocery store but that grocery store is amazing too, recommend checking both of them out
Mayumi K
You can find truly strange but awesome(or just beautiful) gifts here! With all the fun books and unique gift selection, I felt like I'm in my home country (: Adjacent from Uwajimaya where you can shop Asian groceries, houseware and gifts also there is a wide range of food choices at the food court. Perfect for spending a rainy afternoon here.
rainbowdad
Amazing place! Had a very nice atmosphere, and a extremely wide selection of books. I was here during June, and they had a table full of LGBTQ+ books, and they also had souvenirs and little trinkets and toys. 5/5 would shop again.
Alex Li-Green
Best place around for Manga and Japanese books. Also has a good selection of stationary and other, miscellaneous things. Think of it as a Japanese Barnes and Noble.
hello kokoro
Great source for Japanese imported books, manga, and toys; prices aren't terribly inflated and everything is packaged or wrapped to keep from being damaged. I go here mostly to buy art books from popular video games, which are upstairs in the manga/toy area! They also carry some great art publications that appear in that section such as character design quarterly.
Dawn Brown
The best Japanese bookstore you can find in Seattle. I love coming to this store to find manga books in English and Japanese. Great selection of stationary, magazines, and stuffed animals. I also love that there is a tiny section for K-Pop music.
Kim Wang
I enjoy the variety of snacks in the shop. The sushi and to go food was actually affordable but took quite a while for me to familiarise on my first few days there.
Cory E.
Amazing place. Seriously. Great, friendly staff with awesome service. You'll see a lot of reviews that say the prices are steep but actually it's one of the cheapest you'll find for Japanese books in the US. Buy something from CDJapan, include shipping, and it'll probably go well over how much you would pay in this store. Heck, there was a big Japanese bookstore in Vancouver, CA I went to that sold exact same items but the price was nearly DOUBLE. And that store went out of business as of now.
I highly recommend this place. Best place in Seattle to find Japanese goods (more than just books!). Prices are all very good. And if you can't find what you're looking for, they'll happily try and order it for you.
Elizabeth Higgins
I love this bookstore! They have great manga selection in English language, Japanese language, and I saw some Chinese language manga as well. They have lots of pins and things for sumi-e as well as journals and stickers. They have books on how to learn English, Spanish, and Japanese. I love to buy children's books in Japanese so I can practice my reading skills. They also have novels, music, figurines, and magazines. They have a few other neat pop culture Japanese items as well. If you love Asian pop culture you will love this bookstore.
Thea S
I blew fourteen easy dollars here. I was looking at stationery when a customer was talking to her friend about this pencil lead she loved and would buy a lot of whenever she went to Japan. I picked up a case to see if she was right. (I think it's a good lead, I just picked the wrong hardness.) The art book section was very, very tempting, as some of the original prices were marked down to a good price. The cashier was friendly too, and we talked for a bit. The only thing I regret was not picking up some of the Persona 5 collection, because I got into it after I left Seattle.
Rachel P
Cutest store, studio Ghibli gear, books, mini lucky cats. Right next door is the grocery store, Uwajimayas, grab something to eat. They have sushi, big bowls of soup with noodles, BBQ pork buns, a lot of food stalls to choose from. So much cuteness& food in one place. Love this store! Worth the stop.
Chase Oleyer
Coming here is the main reason I come to Seattle. Its tradition for my dad and I to come here for shopping then hitting the food court. The store is nice and spread out and comfortable to shop in, the live fish section is always stocked with healthy product, and the food there is delicious. I cant wait to come back here again.
Kathleen Nelson
Kind of tight... But the gifts were great! Anything Totoro or Spirited Away is probably there!
E B
Be very careful, if you bring your whole wallet, you will spend the rent. They've got everything your heart desires from manga and anime to fun school supplies, plushies, language lessons and some of the best, newly translated books (especially for history geeks, but also fiction and fantasy). So much fun!
Amy Kendall
Something new to find around every corner! Great place for pens!
Donya M.B.T.C
Awesome shop inside the mall/grocery store. Def not a comic book shop, but a manga and anything with asian (mainly japanese and Korean culture.) I say this cause I typed in comic book store and it was the first to show up.
Lush Melody
I LOVE THIS PLACE TO BITS AND PIECES! The workers are so so nice here and are willing to help you find most of your specific needs and may even show you where to find them if you're lucky! (Mind you this may only occur if the store is not busy. Weekdays are your best bet). I had trouble finding the Hetalia section and asked one of the employees. The employee that helped me was ever so kind. She understood what I wanted and even knew what Hetalia was! I guarantee you that the workers here knows everything they have in store. So if you have trouble finding a specific item, section, or etc., they will most likely know where it is and will help out when asked :) Costumers complain about the pricing of the items here at the store, but I personally believe the prices are just fine. Overall, to sum up everything, my experience here was AMAZING, the workers are so kind, helpful, and sweet, service is amazing, quality of the items, manga, and bookstore overall are just top notch. Perfect. 5 stars.
Sean O'neil
If you love anime, art or just all things Otaku... Come here!
Steven Franco
Plenty of books, magazines, manga, and need/geek culture. Although mainly focused on Japanese things, there are some books and magazines in Chinese. Perfect for hardcore otakus or casuals alike.
Amanda
Great selection of Anime, Manga and gaming merch but don't bother buying any kpop albums here because they literally double the price.
Carlo Lacambra
Get your favorite manga books here. There are also a lot of novelty items for you to buy from Kpop groups and anime features.
Aeloran James
I literally could not focus I wanted to look at everything
Guilhem Lagarde
This is one of my favorite places to go while I am in Seattle. There's a huge selection of Japanese books and figures and the prices aren't too bad. It's also connected to the grocery store which itself is pretty nice.
B E S
I went in looking for Japanese sewing books and was disappointed by the selection. There are lots more at the Portland and Beaverton, OR locations.
James Buttke
Went with Niece to get art supplies and anime art book. Tons of similar themed items and friendly staff to help you navigate your way through the immense collection.
Have my eye on some of the Final Fantasy behind the scenes material, and Legend of Zelda knick knacks.
Often they have fan events which we have attended. Really enjoyed the live game music, despite how packed it was that day.
Ben Young
Definitely very geared toward collectors and such. It's a fun store with a lot of nic-naks and toys that are fun. There were a lot of books and manga as well, though I was sad that most were shrink wrapped and unable to be skimmed through. I understand why, as most collectors will want that stuff mint in packaging, I just personally enjoy thumbing thru a book to see if it's to my liking. If that kind of stuff is your jam though, no hate, I'm sure many people will find a lot of stuff to enjoy in this store!
j spain Greene
Large branch of this Japanese book store is located in the Uwajimaya complex. Excellent selection of books in every category: cooking, kids, fiction and non. A great place for gifts and stocking stuffers, they carry exclusive Studio Ghibli (Totoro, Ponyo) gift items here. Craft items galore and lots of stationery.
There is music here as well....and yes, of course, tons of books in Japanese! Join their buyer club for discounts ($21/year) and watch out for signings and events. They get some good ones!
Jesse Hameed
If you like japanese merchandise especially anime stuff, this is THE place in pretty much all of washington state, with the biggest/best/current merchandise selection of any bookstore or anime store in the area. And being attached to Uwajimaya and having so many restaurant options in the area, this place is the ideal otaku heaven in Seattle to spend a day of shopping for merch, and picking up snacks and food on the way out.
Brian L
My go to store for all things Japan related. For more obscure items, I order online and have it picked up in store. The staff is always friendly and willing to help. Please continue taking my money, I will always support kinokuniya!
William Tablan
Great place in Seattle to find great stationary as well as anime related stuff. Can be a bit expensive and the stock is limited. You might not always find what you're looking for but there's probably something there for you. It can get pretty crowded and it's certainly not the largest place, so be prepared to navigate around people.
Bailey Hubbard
One of my favorite places! I've visited Kinokuniya in SF, NYC, Tokyo, and now Seattle. Always so much fun. I'm a collector of mechanical pencils, and they have a great selection.
Vivien
Fun store. My daughter spends hours in there.
Ethan Gibson
Kinokuniya is my go to place to spend random amounts of money on manga. I especially like that most of the manga is wrapped, so I get a pristine copy every time.
They're the only place I've found a BL section. I hope it expands, but for now, the fact that they have one shelf dedicated to it makes me happy.
Toys and other collectibles are plentiful, and it feels my addiction to blind boxes well.
Wren Lee
I haven't shopped here, but I have window shopped. It's better than any other Kino I've seen. It has a large collection of Studio Ghibli and anime. The anime stuff is all upstairs. They have a lot of manga in Japanese too which I think is neat.
Mark Oliver
Really fun place. Lots of unique items specialty notebooks, pens, novelties and Japanese language books as well as manga and anime merchandise upstairs
Elaine Ahn
There are English books, but all the manga and magazine books are either in Japanese or some Chinese translation. There are also some cute stationary towards the back.
Amanda T
Best store ever. So much selection. Came here while on vacation and miss it so much. There is nothing that compares.
J. Sandner
My only complaint is that I wish this place was bigger. It has a fairly large variety of Japanese themed items (either made there or for Japan based audiences, etc.): craft books, cookery, manga, art books, Japanese mags and other publications, stationery, pens and pencils (0.38!) and calligraphy and comic markers (i think they actually have Copic available, not exactly sure), and other small fun misc items (plushies, kewpie mini figs and blind box type stuff, socks). Ghibli stuff. There's a huge variety, it's great.
Elizabeth Metz
Fabulous selection of asian language books and magazines. But best of all: the stationery section. Planners and pens and art supplies and handmade papers and more notebooks than you could use in a lifetime. Possibly my favorite place on the planet.
Lei X
Heaven for the otakus. Also you can find a lot mangas and novels in Japanese and traditional Chinese here. After entering a door there is a section of Hayao Miyazaki, which is pretty cool for fans. But just like the problem for all this import goods store, stuff here are a little overpriced. You can easily find the gap between the Japanese Yen price and usd price marked in the items..z
Melissa Ragnos
I am from Arizona, where the Asian population is low and the stores are even more sparse. I'm a huge fan of comics and games from Japan, so a friend recommended I stop by the book store on my way through town.
Oh. My. God. I was completely unprepared and overwhelmed by the Kinokuniya experience.
I don't speak or read a lick of the language, so I had to ask the sales clerk for assistance in finding a few items. Both clerks that helped me were very courteous and helped me find everything I was looking for. There were a few imported comics that we couldn't track down, so they even logged on to Amazon and searched ISBN numbers for me to help out. They were even apologetic when they relayed the news that the titles I was searching for had been out of print for a number of years!
I picked up quite a few items at Kinokuniya, including some $10 souvenirs for friends and some $80 art books for myself. Well worth the stop, and well worth the price!
Blake Thomas
Excellent Selection of Japanese games, toys, books, and more! Always packed, but very pricey though. I was able to find a couple of unique items here that you would struggle to find elsewhere though.
Marco Alvarez
Amazing store love coming here with friends they have great stuff manga is wrapped so it isn't dirty or torn and lots of merchandise
Grace Fong
Great bookstore. On the expensive side because they carry a lot of imports. Lots of rare books with a second floor anime/manga section and vast array of writing implements - from cheap to professional to high-end. Found a book that we'd been looking for for years!
Dexter Santos
Best place to get your Manga and Anime fix in Seattle! The store also has a variety of stationary items, movies, books, and collectibles. Worth spending an hour just browsing through the store.
Jonathan “Foxius” Slater
Absolutely one of the best places to get Japanese Manga and collectibles for any Anime/Manga fan. I don't happen to see very many Anime DVD's though except for totoro, castle in the sky, and porco rosso as well as grave of the fireflies. I often end up spending upwards of 30-100 dollars every time Im here, but no regrets about it. The store is super clean and well kept. Easily organized, and the staff is extremely helpful to advise you where things are or to give recommendations of what you may like. Wish Kinokuniya expanded to more cities like Maple Valley, Covington, Kent, Tukwila, etc.
Zanthu
If you like anime stuff this is the place too go. Right next to an amazing food court and store. Good selection of anime goods from figures to books to keychains. The staff on my visits there didn't really stand on the second floor. So if you have questions have to go back down to ask. But they will help you out.
Patrick Lo
Lots of great items and fun imports. The selection is well curated and the variety is very whimsical. Only negative is how much they charge because it is imports. You can find many of the items individually cheaper at other locations but not together like here.
Randy Jones
Anything you could ever want in literature from Japan to help keep you connected to Japan while living abroad can be found or ordered here. From children's educational aides in Japanese to the latest in fashion magazines and all the manga an otaku can swallow--and more. Zany gifts and incredible stationery. Note: can get busy on the weekends.
A V
Well I'm a huge fan of Kinokuniya and because what they offer (Japanese books and gifts often straight from Japan) is such a rare treat and hard to find elsewhere in America, I am willing to still go out of my way to shop there. HOWEVER, it's really becoming out of my way more and more: I must regretfully warn people that the historic Asian Seattle neighborhood which this sweet, enchanted place is located in has, tragically, gone to sh*t lately with disgusting extreme filth of drug-addicted crime and homelessness just outside of the small "halo effect" cast by this little bright spot. I seriously suggest the Seattle Kinokuniya pack their bags and move to Bellevue, near the other Uwajimaya (Japanese grocery store) and related nearby Japanese-American cultural spots.
Bam Andres
Fun store to be around. I love to just go around and look at the merchandise. You can find this related to Manga, Anime, Figurines, KPop, Jpop. Basically anything Asian lol. Sometimes the stuff is a bit pricey but that is expected. Also there are memberships and promos if you go here often!
They usually have their shelves near the stairs change every so often with new merchandise sharing a certain theme. For example. Ghibli, Nekoatsume and last but not least, Pusheen.
The service is nice and usually polite. Because this is a popular place, it gets crowded/busy during International District events.
De Rivera
Love love love always in the hunt for Snoopy and an excellent writing instrument. Paper/notebook are delish!
Joshua Hedani
Always a great trinket, craft and most importantly bookstore. I wish I could afford everything I wanted, but I'm very happy with what I have gotten here.
Jade Perrin
This place is fantastic! I found everything I could dream of as an anime lover. I spent at least four hours there browsing their art books alone this weekend. I would definitely go back if I ever end up in Seattle again!
Robin Bennett
Located in the Uwajimaya building, Kinokuniya is a book store and more. There are books and magazines in English as well several Asian languages. Although a large percentage of the books and wares are Anime focused, there is also a large selection of other items, both magical and practical. Along with books and magazines, Kinokuniya offers art supplies, office supplies, collectibles, stationary, calendars, gifts, and much more. Be prepared to spend loads of time looking through every nook and cranny... and don't forget to go upstairs!
Kaskaa
Best place for anime, stationary, and well made aesthetic items alike. Please visit for a fun experience where you're completely immersed in Japanese based books and images.
Frederick Haze
Cramped space, but that also means plenty of merchandise. The stationery department is overpriced on most things, but their notebooks are quite reasonable; sometimes even cheaper than Amazon. They don't typically have new merchandise in which is kind of a bummer. Invest in their club card of you plan on spending over $300 in a year. You get basically tax off, and a gift card. Pays for itself and more.
Amanda “Demisendra7” Phoenix
Fantastic and very clean place. Excellent food, we shared multiple dishes and everything was delightful. The green bottle of saki is available here, and it's so delicious!
Ramon Reyes
Great selection of Japanese books, magazines and Bandai models.
Audie Dewey
What can be said about Brookline Booksmith that hasn't already been said? They have everything! I got my first book (Goodnight moon) here and have loved coming in since. In addition to books, they have a great selection of mugs, pens and other small items that can be bought as gifts.
Rhonda “Indigoblk”
Great store lots of book selections. Friendly staff. Committed to good service. Great prices.
Melina Benoit
my favorite bookstore ever. first discovered this place when my friend did a book reading here. i was completely charmed by the cafe with it's wallpaper of different book pages, and the tables that swing up against the wall to be tucked out of the way using a book strap.i also love browsing through the store with their random and wonderful recommendations, and i love the low, large chairs that invite you to sit down and read for awhile with them. :) pure bliss.
C Dobbins
Love the selections of writing instruments and accessories. Great selection of Japanese Pop print media and respectful inventory of KPop and JPop music.
Vladimir Lestat De St. Augustin
This place is very special to me, BESIDE for being a familiar Hepburn Romanizer of the Japanese Culture in Japan Town Seattle. SHopping at the Wajimaya Center is another reason to cross the street and grab a few items. L'AMOUR EAT U.N. ART and here at Kinokunya is found all interresting items that make you feel like you are rightfully in the Heart of Japan and People who live you. To decorate your favorite rooms and buying Art supplies, this is a great place to shop. Thank you for visiting us, Come again!
Karena T
Loved it here! The bookstore is huge! They've recently filled their upper level with tons of video game and anime related stuff. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Arundhati Tillu
My favorite place to go treasure hunting. Never know what I will find. the bookstore is connected to uwajimaya, where I also recommend wandering and picking up food
Neeka Rose
Kinda small in setup but has a lot of cool manga and anime merchandise.
Meg Tan
Small but lots of books and other Japanese pop culture related things.
Patti T.
They were a bit off tonight. They forgot one item in order. The rice/crab appetizer was in a broth that was a little to salty for our group. And it took them a few minutes to figure out where they placed my coat.
Even with all this, it was still a 5 star experience. The view made for a perfect evening. The Sea Beam was moist with a slightly crisp crust. The dashi was exquisite!
Kari Evans Whitney
Kinokuniya, located inside Uwajimaya grocery story, has a wide selection of Asian media and gifts. We are particularly drawn to their extensive Anime section, which contains both media and collectibles. The stationery section is fantastic with many types and colors of pens, pencils, and other materials. Prices are understandably high given what must be high costs of curating and importing.
Nick Yang
Had lots of manga that I could not find any where else
Tristan Sill
A well stocked bookstore, there are plenty of books written in Japanese here. Although a bit pricey, this is understandable considering the relatively small demand for Asian language books in the United States and the because most of the items are imported.
Brianna Braden
Loved all of the merchandise, I just wish it wasn't so tight and packed so you can see everything. It can be overwhelming but I really loved all the great stuff!
Freeman Alex
This bookstore attached to Uwajamia is full of Manga (separate Eng/Jap language sections), comic books, anime dolls and figures, plus a wide range of novelty items. Fun to browse too.
David Hallowell, PhD
Good luck finding a better panoply of Anime + Japanese cultural gems. This store is awesome.
Anna Gonzalez
Great selection of Japanese and other Asian products. Hot plates and cold snacks are available but things sell out if you visit later in the day.
Hideki Saito
Considering there are no other places in the area that carries Japanese books, even with hefty markups, sometimes I have no choice if I need to pick up some Japanese books without waiting provided they carry one I am looking for. (as opposed to order online and wait few weeks.) Selections are good but I found storeperson being unhelpful and lousy too many times. This place can use some competition.
Aida Crystal Rodriguez Soto
Everything is so kawai.
You can buy a lot of of shiba inu stuff.
Tracey Fitch
Amazing selection of Japanese language books and supplies. Their English language manga selection is the best there is.
D XO
Enjoyed my visit here. Went three times love all the unique books and toys.
Mia Vera
Great bookstore! I adore the large stuffed Totoro and Pusheen, cookbooks, t-shirts, cute accessories, calendars, writing implements, etc. Many collectibles upstairs as well!
Adam Simpson
Really great space. Lots of books, Notebooks, and other stationary supplies. Great Asian themed items, with lots of video game memorabilia. Also they host really cool concerts sometimes
Chris Palmer
Hands down one of my favorite places in Seattle. Huge selection of Japanese manga and other knick knacks. Great selection of stationary and pens (slightly lacking on fountain pens but that's a lot to ask)
It's also stationed immediately next to uwajimaya which has an amazing selection of food.
Micheal Linke
New releases of Japanese authors and for my daughter her one stop manga fix. Stationary department usually well stocked for my needs.
Travis Hensley
Though Kinokuniya can be a little on the expensive side, there selection is unmatched by any other retail store that I know of for manga, anime, and general bric-a-brac related as such. And that's just their upper floor. They also have excellent stationery supplies, children's books, magazines, both local and foreign, and language learning books. And as part of the uwajimaya parking center, 10$ validates 1 hr, and 20$ for two.
Rachel
Good selection of kpop albums! The prices are a bit on the high side, but it's a great experience for fans who are not able to purchase merchandise in person. 😂 …
Karen Zhen (Karen)
Snagged a couple fountain pens here. Great selection.
Ginger Young
One of our favorite stops. I could spend hours in the stationary & Ghinli section.... and my husband enjoys the Manga Anime (especially Gundam) area.
Joshua Reber
A bit on the pricey side but they have a great variety of interesting products! I enjoy just wandering around in here and finding new things. It's can be a bit crowded at times but the staff are rather nice.
Taym26
Best place ever! 2 story anime, manga, and art store?! I could go there every day. This place is like heaven ^^
chronofanz
Great bookstore featuring Japanese and Chinese books and stationery. Lots of postcards, dvds, and dolls related to Miyazaki films, such as Kiki's Delivery Service and My Neighbor Totoro.
Jonna Nevins
Parking is very challenge there, but if you like Japanese culture and love manga/ anime, this is your most-go place in Seattle. I can spend whole day there just check out all books. There is a grocery store attach to it, make sure you stop by as well.
Shane Rideout (SeattleShane)
Kinokuniya always has an excellent selection of Japanese merchandise and manga.
En Caelum
Very large Kinokuniya! Each location is diff but this location carried a lot of mid 2000s anime merch and newer merch like MHA!
eribri02
They have a great selection of Japanese books, both in Japanese and English. The prices are reasonable. They also sell stationary, art supplies, and gifts.

Great place for cute plush, pens and manga. Also some j magazines. It's changed it's stock over the years but is still nice too browse every now and then.
Saifu Angto
Best stationary store in Seattle area. Awesome selection of writing instruments. Fun Japanese knick knacks. Lots of Japanese books and plushies, including manga. It's connected to an Uwajimaya store. Street parking might be a bit hard to find at times, but validated parking is available in Uwajimaya Village parking lot.
Tifa Almeida
Completely agree with other reviews, excellent bookstore with art and writing supplies galore. Love going there to take a look at the Japanese books and get more pens and notebooks!

Lots of interesting things to look at but a bit pricey. Lantern Press postcards are reasonable ably priced, but the selection now is a bit meager.
Vanessa K. Stokes
It has a really good selection of Japanese goods, especially for anime music and DVDs, but Kinkuniya switched to a different seller for figures/figmas and I noticed multiple fakes on the shelves.
DaKine HMan
Well for those who've seen my posts, I'm a nerd at heart. This place has all sorts of knick knacks. I love all of the fine point pens and pencils here; but believe there is so much more in this place. Go visit and enjoy!

Lot overpriced cute stuff. Book selections in foreign languages are fair. However this is place more like a stationary store than a bookstore and possible book lover community. Hope this store to host author events.

Huge selection of manga, magazines, stationary, Studio Ghibli merch and a few other fun extras. Great for Japanese and English readers.
