This place is absolutely amazing! Such a wonderful assortment of gently used books for every interest and age group. Well organized and clean. The staff is very nice and helpful, the owner has even thoughtfully put a step stool in almost every aisle so folks like me can reach the books on higher shelves. Not the reason I drive to Bountiful, but worth the drive. I'll be back again!

This is my favorite book store in the entire world! I prefer to buy used books from here instead of new books from Barnes and Noble. The staff are very knowledgeable and are always willing to give a book recommendation or chat about a good book. The store is also so well designed and organized. I love that you can give your own used books in exchange for credit to use in the store. I will be coming here for all my book needs for many years to come!

I love love love The Book Garden! I read quite a bit....I buy all of my books used (mostly at thrift shops). But when there is a title I really want, I love that I can check their inventory online. Other times it's so nice to just come in without a plan and wonder around. They have quirky little book themed trinkets on the top floor that make fun gifts. I was so happy to find them when I moved to Bountiful! I have read reviews complaining about their trade-in policy but it was carefully and thoroughly explained to me. I completely understand that they require cash flow to stay afloat and will happily pay 25% out of pocket. I also think the trade credit is fair (considering I only trade-in books I won't read again or didn't care for).

It definitely leans toward the Mormon end of the spectrum, but I'm sure there are some hidden gems in these towers of shelves. Worth a stop if you're a thrifting book worm. I bought an interesting book by a Native American Author and I'm looking forward to the read.

Going to a bookstore nowadays is an experience. Especially a small business bookstore. If you want to just buy books just shop online, but if you want a chance to handpick your books off of real shelves, this is the place to go. They have so many books in their inventory. Prices are competitive. Staff are friendly and very helpful.

This is such a darling little store. The staff is kind, passionate, and knowledgeable about what they do. There are floor to ceiling shelves packed with books and there are all kinds of books from brand new young adult queer lit to classics and poetry. The prices are more than reasonable and the environment is wonderful. It's a great spot to find some great new reads and leave with an armload of books.

This is a fantastic little shop. It really does feel like magic! They have a HUGE selection... something (or many somethings) for everyone! I love their staff recommendations. I have found some really neat reads there! Also love the children's section. Found some children's books for my kids last time I was there! I also love that they do Harry Potter themed decor for his birthday! It is awesome.

This is a great book store. Very cozy and a place I can spend way too much time in. They have a very impressive selection of books in just about every genre you can think of. The inventory is also regularly changing which is a perk. However, I do have a couple drawbacks about the place. One, I have never been acknowledged by an employee while shopping here. I get that in a used book store there is not much they can really do for you but being a retail manager I know what an impact a simple acknowledgment can make to a customer. And I don't just mean when they are ready to checkout. Second, many of their books can be a bit overpriced. They do have some new books specifically in their best sellers section, which understandably will be priced higher but many of their used books are priced one to three dollars higher than their competitors which I find odd since they are such a high volume bookstore.

Their website is so helpful to see if they have what I need before I go, and they have a surprising amount of relatively obscure books! Whenever I go, I leave with more books than I intended, and I'm not even that big of a bibliophile. They literally have a section called "old cool" books. Such a wonderful little store!

Cozy little shop in historic Bountiful with a "Bestsellers" section and a section for small souvenirs and a few comics for sale. Old couches provide a place to sit and browse. And old-fashioned type place. Books are slightly overpriced but some are almost new and there are rare collections. It's next to a coffee eatery, a beauty supply shop and an ice cream place.

Great little book store. The Smell of books with a Variety to look through with Amazingly affordable prices. Most books are in Great condition and if you’re looking for that One book you can’t seem to find elsewhere, your chances of finding it here are high. Plus they have little seats in each aisle for a sit down quick read. You’ll find yourself in there looking for 1 book and walking out with 8. Definitely worth the stop. Massive thumbs up. I love this place! My younger brother and I love to come in and browse the shelves quite often because we always find new books and book series to read. I've been able to find whole series of books for a fraction of what it would cost to buy new or even used other places. Even better is the fact that I can trade in books that I'm no longer reading for credit on future purchases! The trade in value is higher than I'd expect from a store like this and I always feel like I walk away with a great deal. It has become a goal in life to one day work here among all the books. After years of frequenting this place, the only complaint I've ever had (other than too many books to choose from) is I can't fit my stroller through most of the store; I've learned to remedy my own situation with a Baby Bjorn! Please never go out of business!

This place is...nostalgic. Like a place you could spend hours in just reading titles and never feel uncomfortable. When the stock of books I purchased is read, I'll certainly be back again. They have events and get together as well.

Cool place! Visited it for the first time in July 2020. Lots of classic and used books for very reasonable prices. I was drawn to the fantasy/sci-fi section and found some good ones. Had a good youth section and we bought the 3 books in the "Mouse and the Motorcycle" trilogy. It's located in an older, slightly rundown building in downtown Bountiful. It got a fun, vintage, one-of-a-kind small business feel to it.

First off, after reading some of the bad reviews for The Book Garden, I will never understand people that leave bad reviews after one single incident that most likely was a misunderstanding or the customer is just a bitter person in general and is never happy with anything. Some of these bad reviews are so petty and ridiculous. The only very rare couple of times I have left a bad review somewhere was when I gave a particular place at least two or three chances, and they still persisted in their treatment of their customers. And that is rare. Have some empathy and patience, people! The Book Garden is honestly one of my favorite places. I am there almost every single week. I am a book hoarder, I fully admit! I am a bibliophile to my core. I have been to nearly every independent bookstore in Utah from Layton down to Sandy, scouring bookshelves and losing myself in a world outside my own. Out of every single bookstore I visit or have visited, The Book Garden is hands down, THE best. The store is clean, the books are cheap, and there is a ton to look at. I am always there at least an hour or two every time I go. Other bookstores in Utah are extremely overpriced for used books and the employees are nearly always stuck up and pretentious and do not even acknowledge you. The Book Garden employees are generally friendly and leave you to your browsing and are always willing to help you find something if you need it. Because I spend so much time there, I just wish they would convert the window area when you first walk in into a sitting area with a couple tables or sofas where you can read a bit of the books you are interested in before buying them. They have stools down every aisle which is awesome, but you cannot really read there for very long if there are other customers wanting to look down the aisle you are in. But that is so cosmetic and a selfish add-on that I would love haha Anyways, do not listen to the bad reviews, people are just salty. The Book Garden is great!

This is my favorite book store and it's a bountiful treasure. I love finding good books here and they have a great trade in program. Plus, excellent customer service. On top of that you can have them put books you want onto a list and they'll contact you if they come in.

I went to the book garden for the first time today. I was so impressed with the selection of books and the prices. I bought 14 books for $97, there is no way you could get that kind of deal at a big box store. I’ll definitely be returning.

We love The Book Garden! More often than not, we will find the out of print classic or living book for far less than on eBay or Amazon. We like the online ordering as well as trading books for credit. Also, there is really no other store in Utah to compare to the feeling you get in the basement surrounded by books floor to ceiling and then climbing the back stair to find even more.

I love this business! For readers it's a heavenly place to buy used books (some of which were never read!) and trade books in for store credit. It's a wonderful alternative to Amazon and Barnes and Noble. The prices are super competitive and it supports Bountiful! Please shop at the Book Garden! I never want to see it go!

Considering how they obtain their stock how much stock they have is impressive. My husband always finds really well priced books here. And we take a bag full home a majority of the time we go. Tons of books lined up and down the walls on the main floor and basement. Buying children books here is a bit much though unless it is in a set. Sadly the set I am looking for I need to piece it together since I was able to get quite a few early on and am just missing books here and there. So buying it separately isn't worth it as it would cost $3 per chapter book, but buying in a set would again make it not worth it if I only need a select few of them. So adult and young adult books are so worth it. Children books, unless they are in a set typically are $3-$5 some are even significantly more. Still giving a 4 star review though in that my husband and I love to go, but unless they are doing a sale, children books are not worth it. So I find myself telling my daughter she can look at them while we are there but not buy any.

There just aren't many book stores like this anymore and I really like being able to walk into a store that is just books wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling. They have a "Cool Old Books" section that is really fun to look through.

If you enjoy books then you will love this fun book store. Old and new books all prices. I have been going here for about 28 years. It used to the paperback exchange. They take paperback books and give you in store credit. They sell hard back books as well. All ages will like the book store. Highly recommend this to everyone!

This place is an absolute gem--I hope it prospers for ages and many generations. I'm an English student at the University of Utah and aside from my searches for books that are for my leisurely reading, The Book Garden has been incredibly successful in providing me books needed for my courses. The prices are very reasonable too; just last week I picked up three books ("Hunger" by Knut Hamsun, "Amerika" by Franz Kafka and "Republic" by Plato) for under $10. A chain bookstore--like Barnes & Noble, for example--would certainly be putting me at over $10 for just one of those books. There is beauty and value in used books. Supporting local businesses might be a trite trend these days, but you must understand that a local and unique bookstore is an invaluable resource to a community.The woman who owns this store is a very passionate reader and book lover, and I appreciate her adoration for all things literature. I have read, and heard a few things about organization being a flaw for this store. This is a valid point, because the number of books in the store is beautifully overwhelming, but allow me to say this: The level of organization, and sheer volume of books seduces you into spending a considerable amount time here--the key to truly enjoying a bookstore. Secondly, if you are having a hard time, ASK THE CLERK! They have always been happy to leave the counter and take me to the shelf and help me find the book I pursue. Perhaps the best, and most bountiful local business in Bountiful, The Book Garden is just that: a rich nursery of entertainment, knowledge and culture.

If you have a half hour to wander around a shop, the Book Garden is a lovely place to do so. The stacks are full to bursting, but it isn't claustrophobic. The selection and layout are both very charming, and the staff is knowledgeable and ready to assist. I can't say I'm overly fond of most of bountiful's main street shops, but Book Garden is the place I keep returning to.

Yes it can feel a little cramped. No, I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. As a book lover there's something wonderful about being surrounded by lots of tall shelves that are overflowing with books. The store is much larger than it looks (as others have mentioned), and the selection is great.

One of my favorite places. Packed floor to ceiling with all manner of books and select antiques. Start an account and get credit for bringing in your old books. Some books have cash value, some recieve "trade credit". The staff is always willing to look up a book and tell me if it's in stock. I've come away from the Book Garden with both rare treasures and beat up weekend reads. I love it.

I have been shopping here for years, so long that the bulding next to the bookstore was an old opera house. That part of history my family owns. This was truly a hidden gem, bookshelves filled with rare finds. The book prices are fair. The true genuine book lovers that worked at this store, no longer do. I was baffled by the trying to purchase a book, but the employee was disgruntled that I had taken her off her cell phone which she had on the counter while texting. I had asked series of questions, she said what we have on the shelf is what we have. She didn't bother to look up my subject, or help me look thru the stack of books like the others have. She didn't have suggestions or really a care, but she did care to lecture me on buying my book and speak over a customer.(the store had only me and one other customer with 2 cashiers) She had her hair up in a bun, and olive skin, if the manager is reading this please please hire people who want to be at your book store. The set up you had on your website before worked amazing, the sneakers page the new one only finds partial...

I’m going give this a 3 star. I been buying books from them for a year now, and brought books in for store credit in the past . So last month I brought in a few books in for store credit, and the employee it worth $3 ok I was good with that then today I went and I found 3 books, two of them were $2 and one was for $4. And I figure I have store credit, I’ll use that and pay the rest cash. But the girl rang me up for $8 “ oh did you apply the store credit?l”, “ you can use the credit for the back of the store and for downstairs” she said. “I did grab it from down stair the $2 books “, “ yeah but not for these” she said . I really don’t understand why? Is it because there all Stephen King’s books? I feel ripped off , it wasn’t disclose to me that I only can use my store credit for certain things in a store. And I really wanted to support a local business but I don’t feel like anymore.

So my daughter went at the wrong day. They were closing that early for a parade. And had to tell us every five min they were closing early so everyone can go to this parade. It got to be annoying. They had a huge selection of books. Didn't realize till it was too late that there is a huge selection of books in the basement. I wish we could have stayed longer.
