Reviews of Paper Nautilus

I can’t believe how many years I’ve been in Providence without discovering this bookstore. When you first go in, it looks small, but they have quite a bit of inventory. And there is a downstairs. I found some excellent books and will certainly go back.
Chrystal Bess Redding
This bookstore is absolutely great! Last year I was looking for a unique book for my niece for her birthday - she loves reading books - and found two books and one for me. She enjoys art and music. I bought a book on psychology for myself. The salesperson was really nice. Scarlett loved her gifts, two books about art and an art set of palette, canvas, brushes and colors for her to use.

Gorgeous book store that is always full of new and wonderful things: books, antiques, artwork. I always find something here, whether it be a book on my to find list or something i had never heard of before. The woman who runs the store always has great suggestions for me based on some of the other books I have bought there. Providence is lucky to have such a wonderful resource as Paper Nautilus.

I love all the books here, such an incredible selection, and so many categories / shelves dedicated to exciting, interesting and unexpected subjects. I loved looking through books of bird illustrations, vintage basketball photo books, obscure cookbooks and all of the postcards and maps. This is a great place to find a specific and personalized gift. I can’t wait to visit again.

This bookstore is one of my favorite places in Providence. A lot of the reviews I've read here are outdated and irrelevant, so please don't let them dissuade you. I've found so many hidden gems here, which is a testament to how well curated the collection is. There are 3 parking spots right out front and if they're occupied, I've been able to find free parking around Wayland Square without fail. When I need to get away for a while, this is the first place I think of. Please wear a mask.

Very good selection, very well organized bookshop

They had a copy of a book for school that I needed and I couldn't find ANYWHERE! They had quite the selection of new, used, and rare books- plus the cashier said he could order me anything I needed. I was VERY happy with Paper Nautilus and the staff.
William Graff
Beautifully curated. This store is full of gems, and an endearing quirkiness that reflects the owner's well-informed vision.
Andrew Ventura
I’m never disappointed while shopping here! I always leave with at least 4 or 5 books. Their selection is vast, well organized and very clean. They take books in trade on occasion as well and offer a more than fair price.
I’m not sure why there are a couple of bad reviews here about the “pretentious” staff. People are probably just projecting their own issues. I’ve never had any issue with the owner or employees.
While the other notable used book stores in Providence are great; Paper Nautilus has the edge!

Paper Nautilus is a beautifully curated and meticulously organized pre-loved bookstore. Truly interesting and uncommon selection of books, prints, maps and select novelties. Great location in Whalen Square. This was my first visit and I look forward to many more.

What can you say. By far the best used book store I have ever been to. Amazing selection, clean organized, quiet, and legitimately priced. I have never left there without something in my bag, and I've always felt like I've gotten an amazing deal. Can't wait for the new location to open!

An incredible selection of books. Or at least the poetry selection is filled with surprises and finds. It's like going to that one really cool used book store in your town pre-Borders / Barnes & Noble. The time when you would go to a book store and browse books and trust that this book seller was in the book selling business because they read books, and they want to pass that on to other readers.
Michael Owen
Paper Nautilus is wonderful! I think used bookstores like this one do us all a great service. I would not like to live in a city that only had Barnes and Noble -type stores.
I love to browse in Paper Nautilus, and have found books there that I would not have found elsewhere. Also, they have very cool art on the walls!
Gregory Todd
Excellent used bookstore with many offerings of interest, from the bargain finds in front to beautiful bound sets. A very high quality selection of literature, scientific works, philosophy, art...
Peter Maranci
The man behind the desk was positively surly. The prices were high. But for a small place, it had a good selection of rare and old used books, as well as a few excellent but obscure new ones.
The back room has many good old books for children. There were also a surprising number of graphic novels, hundreds of them - not what you'd expect in a place where the clerk only grunts and looks like he wants to spit on you.
Christopher Blaker
This store has a great selection and solid prices for that part of the country. However If you're the sort of customer that needs the staff to fall all over you and hang on your every word, go to TGI Fridays. Both staff members I've seen are knowledgeable and nice enough when you take your time to get to know them.
The store is laid out in a rational manner, clean, the books are organized. I go to this store everytime I go to Providence. I wish the science fiction selection were better, but other than that the selection is unimpeachable. The cards made from old paperback covers are pretty cool.

IMO this is New England’s Best selection of reasonably priced, high-quality, collectible, books, 1st editions, etc - owner is highly educated, knows her books, chooses carefully, and has connections with local educators, all makes for an excellent collection! Used to drive from Boston to visit this shop - Now just make a point to stop by when up from FL .. Don’t Miss!
Allison W. Cone
One of my favorite all time bookstores. There are always interesting, well-cared for used books here. The inventory is maintained like a much loved personal library.
Chandell Gadbois
The bookstore is clearly curated by someone with a genuine love for books. Every book you stumble upon is a treasure and listed at a really good price.
Andrew Luck
The very best bookstore in the whole wide world. But if you're relying on a Google Review to decide what bookstore to patronize, you probably can't handle real books. perhaps you should try Urban Outfitters for your reading needs?
Peg
A place of discovery--great selection of books at reasonable prices. Highly recommend!
jamesedge1
One the best bookstores anywhere.

Great selection, sensible prices and so well organized. I greatly enjoyed my two hours browsing and came away with four more books to add to my collection.

Literally a book lover's paradise. Downstairs area is full of rare and unique books, and many foreign prints. Awesome bookmarks too.
Bill Dilworth
I've been going there for years, since it was Myopic, and I love it. I typically go in "just to browse" while waiting for a prescription to be filled at CVS, and leave with an armful of books I just had to get. Check out the dollar boxes out front.
Warrington Faust
I am a long time customer at Paper Nautilus, going back to when it was Myopic Books. I am appalled at the descriptions of the "staff", Kristin and Mitch. They do not seek to over power customers thinking that makes people comfortable and unhurried. But, to describe them as "surely" or unconcerned is ridiculous, if not slanderous.
Brittany Gouws
Amazing prices for genuine and beautiful books. The smell of books is amazing and I couldn't get enough.
Viera Levitt
Wonderful bookstore, refined aesthetic. Great exhibitions and events. Fully recommended!
