Stopping by Sherman's is always a delight. I never come away empty handed, either for myself or with gifts. The staff is always friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I like that I can order books online if they don't have them in stock and then go pick it up, instead of ordering from a big box company. A day that I get to visit Sherman's is always a good day.

This is the best book store! They had such a great selection, the staff picks were on point, and the signage is HILARIOUS. Definitely make a stop here when in Portland!

I went in here to look for a journal and was pleasantly surprised by the little trinkets and keepsakes they sell! I found what I was looking for as well as well as some great calendars and nick-nacks. There are also a lot of books of all varieties, and the staff is very sweet.

There were a variety of books, puzzles, games, stationary supplies and other products in this store. Everything was neat and organized making it easy to find anything available. The staff members were extremely friendly and conversational. They gave me some terrific recommendations of what to do in town. I highly recommend people visit this store while in Portland.

A fabulous place to check out with kids. Apart from the books, they have quality and quite stuff that you don’t usually find abs very reasonably priced too! Loved their notebooks and cherry wood bookmarks. Not to mention the service is fantastic.

I went in with my daughter last night having never been in. Such a huge selection of books (especially graphic novels!) and lots of other small little gifts, trinkets, and local goods! Staff was super friendly!

What an awesome bookstore! I have never seen anywhere near such a huge and impressive selection of middle grade books, I hope they eventually catalog everything they have for sale on their site in an easy to research way without already needing to know the title or author because they had so many I have never heard of and would have no idea how to re-find. Their kids and young adult section is so impressive I could easily spend a fortune there for birthdays and christmas if they had a website that made it easy to browse. I wish I lived near enough to visit regularly!

Great store. Loved the layout and the way they displayed their books. They were easy to shop for a reader who wants to browse. Also very helpful when we couldn’t find something. Ended up buying a book and a Maine souvenir here, too. They had a nice selection of gifts.

What a cool book store. They have a pretty good mix of best sellers, local lore, local authors, kids, young adults and the like. The staff is very helpful. It is a bit crowded, but it feels like an old-time, small town book store.

I stumbled upon this place last night while looking for a place to eat and luckily they were open for another and I just had to look. The place was super clean and well organized. Despite loving smaller bookstores, they typically don't have a wide selection. That was not the case here. They had so many books and great selection The staff were super friendly and I would just live to go back before I leave Maine in 2 weeks.

The staff are very kind, the book selection is excellent, and the store is neat and it's neat and well organized. They also have toys and board games! Dogs are allowed in-store.

Great bookshop. Knowledgeable staff and neat stock. This is one of a chain of Sherman's that have been around for a long time. If you're looking for recommendations, this place is without comparison. That Said, all books are market cost and there are no used selections in store. There are a lot of used bookstores in the city that "school" this place. I recommend this place more for the gifts.

Has huge options for books, almost like a mega library (Expect you have to pay!) Don't see bathrooms anywhere, so that might be a concern. Other than that, Sherman's in Portland is better than your average Barnes and Noble. 5/5.

Stumbled into this place after having walked by it several dozen times. Pretty neat little place with books stacked to the ceiling and a few other items scattered throughout (e.g. old maps). Certainly worth a visit.
