Reviews of Casablanca Comics
Alex Chandler
This place was cool! Looked all over Westbrook, South Portland, Scarborough, and Portland to find a gunpla to build. The person that helped me today was so helpful when I didn't know what I wanted to buy. Couldn't decide on the MG or the HG for my first build, but she was able to open the box and let me take a peek to see if I had the ability to build and the HG looked simple enough so I went with the challenge of a MG. Thank you for all your help I'll be back to buy more!
Nicole Zamora
Such a great store. Their graphic novel + comic collection is amazing and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. With so many options to choose from, I asked for a recommendation based on previous reads and am very satisfied with their suggestions.
Samantha Lott
Place is so cool! It's not your typical large comic book store I'm use to in Denver which I think makes it better. Searching through the shelves really gives that kid like appeal of searching for treasures. I even found some French comics like "Tin Tin" and "Astrics" that is harder to find. Found some other curious looking books I've never read before. They also have gaming books, gundam, dice, and some pins. The owners are super nice and love to chat. Would highly recommend regardless of where your heading.

Not being a comics person who shops for comic people I still feel welcome in Casablanca. The owner and staff are very knowledgeable and kind to you regardless of your knowledge level. Bringing in photos of the specific issues you need is always a huge help too. They have comics as far back as the Golden Age and plenty of more modern selections too. A great local source for your comic book needs!
Alexis Warman
An absolute gem of a book store! And you couldn’t have asked for kinder, more knowledgeable, or more helpful staff. Visiting Casablanca Comics was a treat! I’m only sad that I don’t live closer to them!

Great local shop; extremely well organized & roomy. Everything from $1 comics to kid's graphic novels to brand new releases. Owner was very friendly & extremely knowledgeable. Made some great recommendations for our group & we loved them all!
zivin bane
Absolutely love this place and the atmosphere. Tons to look at and buy! Super friendly staff member named Dave always great to chat with. This is a must go to shop when you're in Portland and looking for comics!
Chris Bigg
The store is in the basement so it's not apparent once you walk up to the storefront. Good curated selection of graphic novels and trades on the walls along with bundled runs. Booster packs for Magic and Pokemon are also available. All were nicely priced. Good selection of back issues. The staff was very helpful with questions when I was there. They were very helpful with a kid looking for books.
Derek Hall
Casablanca is my gold standard for Portland; I would also recommend Coast City. Great staff, insane selection. Check out their eBay shop as well!
Meaghan Cousins
Casablanca Comics is a staple in Portland. Portland keeps forever changing but we hope CC stays. It's a magical place for all ages and you will definitely enjoy yourself for hours. Support local!

These guys were sooo kind! First visiting ever to a comic book store with my kids (4, 6 and 8yo) and because they wanted to read, they gave them 3 Spider-Man comic books! Hopefully they will be comic books fans and hopefully they will come back here again! ☺️
Tim D
Great place. The woman helping me was awesome. Great selection. Current and back issues. Well organized and clean. It's downstairs FYI.
S & J Force
Rick was awesome. Knows his stuff and went out of his way to help me. Very clean and organized. Friendly staff.

Casablanca comics is a well-appointed comic book shop. Merchandise aside, the proprietor is an absolute gem of human being; unfortunately I forgot to get his name. I needed a gift for my son who is autistic and loves comic books. The owner spent a considerable amount of time with me curating a small collection of Dark Horse comics that might best suit my son's interests. He was patient, knowledgeable, and clearly enjoyed his field. A big thank you and I highly recommend this establishment.
tynerboy
Excellent selection of modern and back issues, great staff, always friendly and very informative and knowledgeable!
Zac Cleaves
What a fantastic comic book store! This place has been around for over thirty years! I bought my very first comic here when I was around ten years old. The owners are great, in fact I had a nice little chat with one of them while I was in the store a few days ago and she made a great recommendation that I have been enjoying very much! My only minor quibble: Masks are STILL required for vaccinated individuals
Corrupt Corgi
Great selection of gundams and accessories for them! All the comics you could wish for!
STUMPCRUSHER
awesome store in a neat spot & a huge selection with chill employees that really know their stuff.
Tristan Coffin
Lovely comic book store with an impressive selection of comics, graphic novels, board games, and other nerdy paraphernalia. We were there this last Sunday evening and the gentleman working there was very knowledgeable and friendly. Deserves a raise!
William Paprocki
Great selection of comics and you can even pick up some board games and RPG dice.
Erin Murphy
We love this store and make it a point to visit every time we are in Portland! The staff is super friendly and very knowledgable about comics and graphic novels. This store is a gem!
J Z
Seriously one of the best comic book stores I've ever been to (and I'm from NYC)! Very knowledgeable staff, the gentleman was very friendly and engaging. There was a lot of things here I haven't seen elsewhere, and everything was very neat clean and organized. It had every element of a comic store I could ever hope for! Highly recommend. I wish I lived closer, I'd be a regular for sure!
Just Me
Maine's oldest family-owned and family friendly comics store. It's thoughtfully designed, and spacious, so it's easy to view and peruse all the merchandise. Stocks all the popular ongoing titles, both mainstream, independent, and small press. Has an impressive selection of graphic novels and collected editions. Back issues are reasonably priced. Sells special boxes, plastic bags and backing boards for storing comics. Also has gift items and paraphernalia like tee shirts, posters, buttons. Regularly has special sales. Offers a 'pull service ' for regular customers. Selectively buys comics and comics related items. Employees are friendly and knowledgeable. Open 7 days a week; closed on major holidays. Also has a store in Windham, Maine.
Casablanca Comics also sponsors a free yearly summer Comics Celebration, which showcases national, regional, and Maine-based comics creators.
Marc Fedderman
The store has a great selection of new comics, back issues, and curated collections. The owner and staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Casablanca Comics is a must stop if you’re in Portland, Maine. I’ll be back soon!

Best place to get comics and graphic novels in central and southern Maine. Everyone who works here is super knowledgeable and extremely helpful. Amazing selection of comics, graphic novels, and games.
Sarah Montalbano
Needing something to file the time in Portland I decided to stop at the most in between comic bookshop from the Cryptid museum and our hotel. I am very pleased that turned out to be Casablanca Comics. The staff member on was just just what you'd hope for, very knowledgeable, kind and helpful. When my older son was thrilled to see the newest Mighty Jack and Zita the Space Girl and Mighty Jack, the shopkeeper did not say, aren't you a little old for that? No, he happily commented about the books surprise publish date. That experience tells you everything you need to know. But I'll also say they featured an inclusive and classic selection of comics and graphic novels. I bought Zita of course and a beautiful Korean cookbook Cook Korean! by Robin Ha and Katie O'Neill's wonderful Auquacorn Cove. Definitely worth a stop for anyone who enjoys books and comics.
Phoenix Cobain
I have been a long time customer and I absolutely love EVERYTHING about the store and the folks who work there. They have made me a lifelong customer.
Erin Nadeau
Love this shop, the staff are amazing, and no matter how long it has been since my last visit, they remember my name. It's the little things like that make places like Casablanca Comics stand out among the crowd.
Colin
Lots of great comics here. The staff was knowledgeable and able to give recommendations based on what I was doing. I was looking at Oblivion Song by Robert Kirkman, and the woman working said to try it even if Walking Dead isn't my thing. Great recommendation! I loved being in this store.
Curtis Atkinson
Great comic shop with a super-friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable staff. Everything is really well priced and organized as well, which makes coming here even better. I absolutely loved this place when we stopped in and spent a lot of time chatting up the guy at the counter. How much better of an experience in a comic store could you ask for?
MILIND GHOLAP
I happened to stop by just for fun. This was my first comic book shop ever. The ladies there were very helpful and after talking to them I instantly wanted to own something that was old and cool to have. One of the ladies actually went through some boxes and helped me out.
Curt Fortenbery
Excellent comic shop! Very helpful and knowledgeable employees. Highly recommend!
Keith Brown
The selection is always changing and they offer comics from all different companies, genres, and age ranges. Plus games and model kits, a real great store for all kinds of fans
Raheen Dukes
More so for my boy, they had everything he was looking for! Toy collector🤜🏿 …
Oliver Peckham
Casablanca Comics was a nice stop for browsing through comics and graphic novels. It's a little tucked away, but it's in a good location and the store itself is pretty spacious. Good selection of comics and friendly staff. Store was clean and well-lit.
cwalkenisgod
My go-to comic store in the area.
Located in the Old Port, essentially, Casablanca Comics has moved to a new location on the bottom floor of their original building, right next door to Anthony's Kitchen and Bull Moose.
Originally, Casablanca was more a "commercial" store, and while it still is - they've branched out and have lots of back issues to choose from as well as supplies for collectors and action figures/statues/other collectibles.
The staff are all really kind and their new location is very open, clean, and welcoming. Give them a shot.
Charlotte Gordon
I came to Portland for a day with my siblings from California, and this place made us feel at home. There was a lot of good stuff to see and buy, and the man behind the counter was very nice. We chatted with us as we payed and was willing to help me check out some dice behind the counter. If you like comics, card games, dice, and good service, you’ll enjoy Casablanca Comics.
JayK
I come down from Canada every November for the U.S. Thanksgiving and I make sure a visit to Casablanca happens every time. I've chatted with the owner quite a few times and he's a great guy. Their selection of back issue comics is amazing and their Black Friday sales are unbeatable.
Lady Ace
Lapin and I came to this comic book store for a present. The staff was very pleasant and engaging. They have a wide range of comics, manga, display figures, and merchandise. They also have fun mystery bags of comics for a fix price. Although, be warned -- they do include some free comics and really old & random in that bag of mix goodies.
Shanna Anderson
My friend and I are comic artists and we were pleasantly surprised to find a comic shop right in our path as we vacationed in Portland, Maine. Casablanca Comics is big (for a comic shop), well lit and well organized. Those are good things in any place, but they are rare and therefore even more impressive in a comic shop! The woman at the counter was friendly and helpful and seemed to be really in touch with the comic scene. I thought their grab bag idea was really cute and over all the prices were within normal range for comics.
Jacob Schulman
Best place 2 read a comic down stairs and get a pizza
Nathaniel Kraft
This is a model of a well-run, friendly, inviting comic shop. The staff is always friendly and helpful, esp. Laura and Melanie. It's awesome clean, with a great selection of new comics, trades, graphic novels, books, and memorabilia. This place is special.
JT S
Nice comic book store! Good for kids - large fun selection!! Brought my 6 year old and 4 year old and they had a blast picking out their first comics
Frank Beard
Wonderful store. It's not large, but they have a fantastic, well-curated selection. I discovered a great series that kept me entertained on the flight home. Great customer service too.
Brett Whitmarsh
I've been going to Casablanca for many many years. I love everything about them. They always in stock and are extremely plugged in. Family friendly and just so much new stuff every time I go in. They've been at it for a number of years so they know their stuff. They also do a lot for kids and the community. Great place.
Ben DeLong (B.K.)
We are out-of-town visitors who come here to replenish our comic book stash, often taking them back to our hotel room with some famous Portland Potato Donuts to crack them open. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful plus there is no rushing you to pick your selection as you wander this cozy comic haven.
Matthew LittleFarmer
Casablanca is one of just a few comic book stores on Portland's peninsula. Now located on the lower level of 151 Middle st, in the old Videoport space, it is wheelchair friendly. The accessible entrance is through a door in back of the building, to your left as you face the building from the parking lot. The store carries comics from all the big publishers and many indies as well. The larger space means more room for back issues. Look around for special boxes with, say classic kids, or war, or crime comics. There is a selection of "graphic novels", Tintin and Princess Mononoki merchandise, mugs and pint glasses and other suprises. The owners organize one of the local conventions and support local comics creators. A subscription service is available.
Margo Williams
Safe and inviting atmosphere. Everyone was nice and helpful.
Joe Leclair
I love this place!! I'm in here at least once a week. The staff are super friendly and nice. They have a large variety of books and bags, boards and boxes. A nice selection of other collectables as well. Excelsior!!
Colin Becker
I have been going to Casablanca ever since I was a little kid. No matter who's in the store the staff is top notch, helping you find the comics your looking for and even suggesting something you might have never read before. It's also worth checking their Facebook page, as they often have events with various authors and artists going on as well. I really can't say enough nice things about this place.
Dylan Siegert

Pretty good store, they have a decent amount to pick from but the overall selection is limited, unless you are a fan of the mainstream heroes. Store could probably use more filler items like most similar stores have.
