Reviews of Molasses Books
Wilson Yeung
Hands down the cutest bookstore in the Bushwick area. Not only do they sell second-hand books, it’s also a cafe where you can enjoy a cup of coffee if you choose to spend a cozy afternoon in the store
Emma H
Loved this book shop. I purchased a pretty niche book that I probably wouldn’t have found in another shop. Also the free bookmark was a nice addition. Really pleased and would recommend supporting 🥰 …
Ry Book Suraski
Small book shop with a few seats for coffee or wine. Not a cafe environment. I wish they had toast/snacks besides a cookie, but it's very nice. A small "bar" with maybe 6 seats and then a little table by the window. There are a couple tables outside on the sidewalk too. Very cute and nice.
Dan Rosen
Adorable little date night spot and place to pop into, whether midday or on a Saturday at 11pm. A great selection of used books, affordable drinks, and the distant but intentional energy of Bushwick.
Victor Cano
Small, cozy and have a wide variety of books of all kind around the store. Has very great drinks to grab a book and read. I love it here and love how small it is. It is very cute and the owner is very friendly and nice. I love it here and definitely will go again. My boyfriend spent big on here of books that are amazing like art and philosophy books.
Grecos Ramales
I was in this place because my wife's teacher invited him to try the coffee he sells and the truth is that I loved it, it was delicious, for those who love good coffee! HONEY MOON COFFEE! is the best
C Chance
I love every inch of this little bookstore & cafe.
Sol Sahade
Beautiful place , really good books affordable and tasty coffee <3
K King
Saw my hot co-worker read poetry here. Everyone else was also cool. Had a panic attack and left early - but I do not blame that on you Molasses Books. Has Underberg shots, 6 stars
Marta Bereza
Bookstore that is open until midnight. Dreams do come true.
Tom Palaima
This reminds me of coffee shops I hung out in on the lower east side early 80's and in Madison, WI early 70's. The book shelves are filled with books that are not just ways of wasting time. Atmosphere is very friendly. Even a first visit is like coming home. And the coffee is gooo-oood.
Johnny Zito
Great coffee and great selection of books, very affordable prices and comfortable atmosphere
Stephen Bennett
I love the feel of these kinds of shops - small, intimate, filled with coffee and books. The coffee is great. The vibe is great, and the book selection is awesome. Though they don't have a ton of space, they make the most of it with a curated collection of new and used books. Definitely give it a visit!
Tod Gemuese
Coffee and a great well-curated selection of used books! What more could you possibly ask for?!
Abel Tirado
A small but eclectic book shop with a wide variety of selections. Very clean, very hospitable with a coffee bar that is still open, with accommodations for covid-19.
They accept credit cards but make sure to bring cash if you want to save 15 cents per transaction.
All in all, very cute, very nice, highly recommend.
Jacquie Swears
this is a charming place ... good vibes here, makes a neighborhood feel like a community.
Marisa Crawford
Five stars for the place I miss hanging out at the most during the pandemic. Amazing selection of used books and a great place to sit and work/write with a beer or cup of tea, plus they play the best music.
Angel Webster
Good books and Great energy in this place.
Alex Fabry
i'm a fan of this bookstore. It's kind of small but I feel like it's filled to the brim with a huge variety of books. You could "explore the pages" for hours. Coffeeshop is a nice touch.
Emily Richard
Incredible little(!) nook of used books, and decently priced local beer. I spent about $50 for two beers, bakery item, and 4 books. It had just rained so the air conditioning was off and was just a lovely open door and classic fan. Very quiet on a late night Wednesday, but relaxing with jazz or low tempo electronic music. Store requests no laptops after 8pm
Christopher Alessandrini
Where to even begin with Molasses Books? This place is on another level. Incredible selection of used books, particularly art books and rare literary gems. Readings in translation series is also A+ with a wonderful range of contributors, and the bar is always well stocked. The room transforms at these events—or did, in pre-covid days. A perfect corner of the world.
emma butler
Cozy nook in this trendy neighborhood. Friendly staff. Reasonably priced secondhand books. Good selection of books! Great way to spend a cold, rainy day.
John Dobis
selection of books is surprisingly good. nicer experience than buying through amazon and good to support local businesses. hint: furthest shelf from front door as you walk in seems to always have the best selection. i feel like it's our duty as customers to buy something from the cafe on each visit. keep them in business!
Ladawn Barbara
So many used books and even series in very good conditions. Unlike some of the reviews here, I find the outdoor book shelves are sorted by genres. I didn't have to waste time digging each shelf for some random gem. There are even more inside the store, which is right next to the outdoor garage. They have some seriously good collections. I can spend more than an hour just looking at books and still feel silence very charming.
Bob May
Excellent calm atmosphere, there's an intimate quality about the place that makes it extremely charming and a lovely environment to just sit. I'd also like to point out from someone else's negative review that the 8 pm laptop deadline is plastered everywhere, it's not rude to tell you to put it away if you are incapable of reading.
Jen Fraenkel
Great little bookstore in Bushwick! I think it's probably better for a browse and a very hip laptop working session than looking for a specific book. The coffee is good and the vibe is lovely.
The guy behind be counter seemed a little irritated with my presence and my request to sell books but finally took four of them. Oh well.
Definitely a neighborhood gem and I'll be back.
Noopur Raval
Small cozy cute store with a quirky collection. I don’t think they have charging outlets. It kind of had a white hipster scene when I visited.
Gustavo Ponce
After 7 years in NYC, this is my single favorite establishment. Thoughtfully curated selection of used books, live poetry readings, chess nights, wine and beer, coffee and tea, free WiFi and the staff are the coolest people in the world but they're not like jerks about it.
Sienna W
Good coffee, good art books and magazines, and good spinach ricotta turnover!
Gisela Jimenez
Great little bookstore! Quiet place to sit to read and have coffee or a beer, and get work done. I liked the location close to all the street art. People were friendly.
Kimberly Ann Pamotillo
Cozy places to chill and read books! Oops, and don't forget to pair it with wine or rosé! 😍 …
Dana Misshula
This is DIY at its best and my favorite cafe in the neighborhood.
Solid selection of used books, charming spatial design, and enjoyable background vinyl. Seating is limited, but usually easy to come by if your okay with a bar stool.
M
If the store is closed, you may think they’re shut down because there is no signage to indicate Molasses Bookstore. Don’t worry, this place is still in business. In my one experience, they did not open on time so I left and came back later.
Cool chapbooks. I think the fiction and poetry sections could use some livening up tho.
Salih Seckin Sevinc
My favorite workspace and bookstore surrounded with second hand books in Bushwick. Filter coffee, beer and glass of wine can accompany you while reading or studying. I have been visiting here for writing my novel and feel so comfortable so far. Vibes are good. Place is local. Matthew (the owner) is honest and so the Molasses. The place looks like it has been there for more than a hundred year.
Highly recommend.

Tucked away, almost secret. One of those spots you'd love to show to people who won't impose upon it. A great bar to be the sole patron of, and, conversely, also a great place to end up sharing blueberries with a stranger in
Laura King
It feels like you're hanging out in a friend's apartment. A friend that has a lot of books. The space is totally unpretentious, the staff Uber hip. Cool bathroom vibes! Had the place to myself on a Friday, midday.
Hopson Review
Love this shop.
They perfectly balance the used-to-new ratio with a primarily used book selection and a small section dedicated to zines, small press books + mags, and other items of the like. And the few new books they do carry by larger publications are obviously chosen with care. Their cute work tables, crazy hours + the fact that they'll make you a cuppa top off the coze factor (though personally we're more likely to just bring along a kombucha).
Fitch Wilder
What a bookstore should be. All the romance of dusty stacks, bookish nerds, decent coffee and wine, and so many titles to discover. A true community center. Never leave Molasses, never leave.
Fernando V. Pomar
A lovely place. If you like discovering stuff, this is the bookstore for you. Good, friendly atmosphere. I've also been to a couple of events there and they were vibrant and fun. Recommended.
M K
This was truly an interesting little place! I was dragged in there by a friend who wanted to look around. The atmosphere has a very old vibe that I cant quite put my hands on. But it's super cute.
Kevin Qiu
Very cozy bookstore, cafe, bar. Literally my favorite place to just hang out and work, chat, ect. Also a great selection of used books. I feel so lucky to have Molasses in my life.
Katelyn C
Cozy book shop and bar. Bartender was the sweetest and the selection was small but interesting
Kyayla Turman
Such a cute book nook! I love the neighborhood feel and coffee bar. a great place to read a good book on a cloudy day
Jack W.
Tiny bookstore with a rather large but curated selection of used books. It feels a little "exclusive", but once you work past that and if you can find a seat, it's great.
David Morris
Smallish but quality selection of used books. Low end beer and coffee, but seems like a solid little community, including a great selection of events.
Elliott Sanders
Coffee was pretty good but there's very limited seating. Maybe it was just the normal odor but something smelled a little funky.
Lana Burns
A second-hand book who has motto that suggests the purveyor find something serendipitously rather than finding a specific book. This store offers performances at night, in candlelight and with wine, beer or coffee.
Weston Ulfig
Super Chill. If I'm out in the neighborhood, I'll sometimes escape to Molasses to drink in peace and read. Good selection of books, always friendly.
Joshua Hill

The revolution will not be televised, it will rewritten in argumentative prose at midnight in the finest bookstore in the city, molasses books
Alex Kelley
Decent enough spot, but its difficult to walk around and look at the book selection without needing to push people out of the way, and that’s on a quiet day. Just comes with the territory I suppose.
Varshaya Visvanathan
Really cute spot for books and coffee. The bookmarks are really wonderful.
Aaron Gordon
