Reviews of Dauphine Street Books
Scott Keele
We had no idea this bookstore was here. We stumbled across this amazing collection of books and were not disappointed at all. The owner is kind and super helpful. He is knowledgeable about his books and he went out of his way to help me, even stopping what he was doing to put a protective cover over the book I purchased.
I do have a limited collection of books, nothing to write home about, but his care and concern for the book I stumbled across was superb! Much appreciated.
This bookstore is the kind that movies are made about… some long, lost ancient book with secret puzzles can be found here! It is a true treasure hunt experience. Enjoy yourself!
Hannah Rodriguez
This is a special place, i’d highly recommend. The owner is kind and has wonderful recommendations, and the books are reasonably priced. It has a really incredible feel and vibe in here, if you love books - this is no doubt the place for you. For locals and tourists, add it as a stop on your list for sure.

This was a great little bookshop stick pulled with used books. If you're willing to dig a little you'll find some beauties. Shop owner was friendly and knowledgeable. I'll be back when I'm next in town.
Hannah Scott
The owner was incredibly helpful. As they saw I was looking for vintage children's novels they casually set a beautiful 1940s copy of treasure island by me which I bought along with a 1930s mystery novel. They told me all about the 1930s mystery author and were very knowledgeable. I came back 2 days later and they had set out an Emily Dickenson novel in the poetry section because I had asked about it prior. Their passion for their work is unparalleled and made it such a delightful experience!

Cramped and messy in the most wonderful way. It just exudes that real-deal bookstore vibe. The attendant is very kind. And oh, did I mention the unfakeable* bookstore smell of this place? It is lovely!
*Of course, not a word but felt necessary.
MyFit FootSnug
Amazing selection of fairly priced books. Super intimate, crowded space can be more awkward than comfortable, but please go give them lots of money so we can continue to have treasure troves like this in nola
Will Langston
Great shop. I think there’s an organizational scheme, but maybe not; it isn’t super organized. You have to dig around, and it’s really close and packed with books. In other words, the perfect kind of place if you love old books and discovering things. The owner was great and happily shipped my books for me. He also had lots of good recommendations.

Very good selection of used books. I bought a couple of books
by two favorite writers. Highly recommend. I will visit again my next time in New Orleans.
Neil Lewis
It looks like a mess but this used book store has discerning taste. It’s clear the owner doesn’t just buy any book but only takes in unique or classic books. If you love old books or enjoy finding a treasure, you have to check it out.
Etta Llanas
I love a "stacked up" bookstore with only the nominal sense of organization because then it feels like treasure hunting. In truth, it only felt disorganized because ask the owner about a book and he not only knows whether he has it, he knows which editions he has. He was a great old cat, describing prose as "lovely" and recommending " a tough read but with an honest, feminist message." Like I was going to put it back after that. If you are a book and bookstore lover, this is the place.
Jim Allan
Great bookstore. Owner very nice. Highly recommend.
Benjamin Arthur Photography
Nice 2nd hand bookstore with a friendly owner and some good selections. Recommended.
RC Zyla
Great books, owner, and overall vibe. I will return when visiting New Orleans!
Greg Bem
Inventory was pretty low when we visited. Not much organization. And the A/C was out, making it a stifling experience. Place has character, but not sure if I can recommend stopping by here wholeheartedly.

We walked into Dauphine St Bookstore in search of a New Orleans classic - and upon asking Steve for some help in finding it, he had a vast array of recommendations and extra books by the same author. He and his wife Katrina were absolutely gorgeous and we left with some first and second Lyle Saxon editions. The space is beautiful and full of character - a testament to the culture of New Orleans. We'll be stopping by to visit every time we return to the city.

The best bookstore in the French Quarter! They have a little bit of everything!
Daniel Binkoski
Dope little place with a 25 year history of used books. Stacks of books and the smell of them permeate the place
Annie Jolynn
Wall to wall with a large variety of books. The shopowner was also very kind and helpful. A new fav.
Johann Altenburg
This place definitely has some peaceful old magic to it. Steve, who runs the place, has an encyclopedic knowledge of his eclectic selection. Honorable mentions for this perfect little spot are the signed books by local authors, the cooking section, and the southern history section. Every book I've bought there is on my display shelf. Definitely a worthwhile destination for any bookworms seeking respite from the neighborhood shenanigans.
Scott White
Nice little shop that provided a quiet break from everything that is the French Quarter. The gentleman was extremely helpful. Walked out with four books purchased.
Greg Williams
What a great book store! Excellent selection, very broad and diverse and no dreck to sift through. The owner is genial and very definitely knows his inventory. The prices were quite reasonable. I was concerned about getting all of my purchases in my luggage and he shipped them at a cost that was not much more than the sales tax that I would have paid if I had not had them shipped out of state. I wish that we had a bookstore of the same quality in Kansas City.
Brent Andrews
Really cool book store that supports local authors and has numerous books on the local culture. Shopowner was helpful and gave me suggestions on where to find a book that they currently did not have in stock. Gave me a 30% discount for local authors book. He said they are moving soon, but not far from this location. Wish this place best of luck

The last two times we visited New Orleans, we stopped in here. Can't resist a used bookstore. Both times we've left with a great selection of new reads. The owner seems to know every book in the shop.
Jim Allan
Great book store.
Courtney Churilla
Had a great chat with the owner (?) picking their brain about New Orleans Local History and found out they were moving! Here's an update on their FB page from 7/3/2020: "We have acquired a new space at the Old Arabi Marketplace! 6782 St. Claude Avenue- 10 minutes from the French Quarter! Come see us today, open 10am-6pm, 7 days a week!" I'm looking forward to checking out their new location.
Hunter Lowery
It's like a bloody bookstore from harry potter. The proprietor is also from harry potter, one would imagine. This place is bloody fantastic. I've loved the man who runs it for nearly two decades. I'm hoping for more decades to come. You frankly couldn't ask for a better used book store in my opinion. But visit and form your own opinion, please!
myrradine
Lovely, cozy bookstore in the French Quarter. The bookstore is brimming full of books, and rewards the patient reader with treasures. The bookstore owner is knowledgeable and helpful, and goes out of his way to help patrons. I try to stop by any time I visit New Orleans.
Amber Grant
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! The owner is so helpful and charming, he cares not about just selling, but making sure you find the reading materiel you're looking for. Maybe even the material you don't know you wanted to find. He's so kind and helpful I can't even explain. I found this place when I was 15, I'm now 27 and it's only gotten better. Very cozy, AMAZING treasures, you just have to look around and dig deep enough. They might be right in front of your face depending on your taste! Seriously though my all time favorite place to be and most definitely my favorite place to find books.
Ryan Botts
Incredible experience crawling between the towering book shelves in this French Quarter book store. The books seemed well priced. I will definitely be driving back to New Orleans (from north Louisiana) to visit Daphine Street Books regularly.
Blasita Trevino
Found the perfect book for me. Prices are fair but be warned that you do gave to look around in order to find things. The books are organized by genre but other than that it's a free for all
Patrick Tevlin
Best bookstore in New Orleans, by a mile! Books are piled up wall-to-wall and Steve, the owner, amazingly knows where each and every one is. Great selection and great prices.
Fantastic.
Toby Blumenkranz
This is the most classic and amazing bookstore you will ever go to! The selection is never ending and the owner takes incredible care of it. If you are in NOLA, this is a must-see place.
Pearce Elliott
Fun place (if you like books). Sort of small place with shelves to the ceiling and narrow isles. Surprising number of books and the owner had a good idea of what he had and where it was.
Paul Dever
This is the way I dream of used bookstores, all crowded with tall shelves, full of books. It's like the bookstore I remember from 40 years ago... A venerable tradition.
The Amos Gonzalez Show
I like that you can buy and trade books here
Patrick Burch
It's nothing but books to all sides of you. You cannot escape the books. Remember those magical bookstores in movies that have rare and ancient books? This is that bookstore in real life.
Jeffrey Shepherd
Coolest book store I've been to. Great selection. I make sure to stop in every time I'm in New Orleans.
Chris Baker
Well-curated selection. Small space, overstocked just enough to reflect a healthy obsession but not enough to interfere with one of the highest-quality second-hand bookstore experiences I've ever had.
Bill Lucas
What a hidden gem for the book lover in your group. So opposite of the craziness of Bourbon Street. Tourist not into partying can step into the packed little store and dig through the stacks for treasure. It is all you want in a little book store.
Joseph Connor
Lovely to see this bookstore return to the French quarter.
Pink Pirate
Didn't realize it till later that day but was overcharged for a few books I purchased. And not like a dollar...more like 5-6 dollars. Could do better on simple math.
David Griffiths
The great classic bookstore... Very narrow isles, doesn't have everything but definitely has things that are great finds.
Rakesh Babu
This tiny shop has an incredible selection of books! What an amazing place to spend an hour discovering treasures hidden in the stacks.
Rachel L
Love this place. The owner of the place was pretty friendly and helpful. If you are planning to visit. Make sure you have cash, or you could also pay with card if you bought more than $10.

A book lover's wonderland... every corner you turn, there is something you want... many rare volumes, as well as the more mass produced modern ones!
Mange Vorhees
It's Memorial Day and the owner kept the store open because I happened to catch him on the phone. I've never left this store without something new to read, and always love speaking with the proprietor.
Barbara Ballard
Carefully curated fiction section, one of the finest I've seen.

The store is owned and operated by an older gentleman who was very kind and helpful. Overall I could describe the bookstore as an organized chaos of books. The bookkeeper knew where everything was though, it was just very crowded, with piles of books stacked up on top of each other making it difficult to maneuver around the shop. I sked if he ever gets help around there or any volunteers to work. He said no, and he wouldn't have it any other way. The bookstore has a nice cozy feeling to it but the books blocking almost every turn is a hazard despite obviously not having any more shelf space.
