Reviews of Crescent City Books
Johnathan Nazarian
Incredible bookstore. Used books from the 2000s and dating back hundreds of years. Some really rare antique beauties as well. Fairly priced. Very friendly and helpful store manager that either knows the answers or will find the answers. I look forward to visiting annually when I visit family in the area. This will be a staple, for sure. I went to 5 bookstore in the area and this was my favorite for old books.
Grace Su Ming
The man working in the shop, Jason (not 100% sure of the name) was amazing! He was so informative and gave us further suggestions based on what we got/liked. Lots of variety, including older classics you can't find other spots.
Praveen Sr
A must visit for the several New Orleans related books as well as the great collection of second hand books, all in a good condition. Also, country and region wise collections as well as some stuff on jazz and art.
Nicole Zimmerman
Well organized, artistic displays, and good prices. Nice store.🙂 …
Jennifer Roe
Fantastic book store with lots of New Orleans historical information! Located conveniently in the French Quarter across from the Chart Room Bar. The shop is nice and neat and easy to find fun history.
Jason, Manager, is super nice and informative. Make suggestions, ask questions! He is also super resourceful.
Alta Ridley
Lovely store. I enjoy books about art, my mother went for the sci fi and the maps. It has all of that and more.
Mom also appreciates the chairs to take a momentary break. Friendly staff ready to help out.
Kristen Hahl
I just love Crescent City books. As a newly minted part time resident, one of my favorite things to do is to stop in and pick up something from the local history/ authors section. The space and the staff have wonderful energy. I find myself reading more just so I can return. Thank you Crescent City Books~

I traveled from Puerto Rico to this bookstore twice (2019 & 2022). Personally, I consider this bookstore one of the best (or I would say the best) bookstore in NOLA. Highly recommend it.
Sheri Rodgers
Such a delightful find. Rare and beautiful books, amazing old maps and matted 1800s anatomy lithographs, sold by people who truly love books. So glad we stumbled across this store and stopped in.
Tab Palmisano
Went to 3 books stores during my visit and this was by far the best. Books were fairly prices. Store was clean. Staff was nice. Everything I would expect from a local bookstore.
Brianna Cunningham
Overall, this is a really cool used bookstore! They have a huge selection of books. If you like used and vintage styled books, this store is perfect for you. This store is definitely not like a Barnes and Noble, but overall they have a decent selection of books. They do have a really cool rack that highlights local books from local authors in the area.

This place is amazing! Lots of selection of books from all over the world and topics! The friendly male staff helped us to find what we were looking for as well as giving us some extra information about places to check out and dine in the city. We met Isabel, the gorgeous 17 years old cat, whom has been featured in some amazing books which you should definitely check them out! Definitely be back for some other great books! Thank you
Will Langston
Really awesome bookstore. Stuffed with great things, well organized and labeled, incredible selection. Also great prints and a surprise museum. The owner was great, easy to get books shipped. Could have stayed for days.
Uchenna Ogbonnaya
It was hard to focus on a book when all differnt size books are all next to each other and laying on top, but that could be the asthetic. The owner was very nice and has a wide variety of books
Leo Phillip Ferreira
Cozy book shop with a great variety of antique + modern books as well as vintage art, vintage maps and photos. I could easily spend the day browsing the collection. Just needs a cozy little corner to sink into, it would be difficult with limited spacing. I am looking forward to my return.
Willow Lawson
What a cozy place in all the big city N. Orleans vibes. Original we had planned on getting coffee before going here and we did. Then it started pouring rain and we ran to the bookstore (which was only three or four stores down). We were offered paper towels to dry off and we went to looking. I wish I had taken pictures of all the vintage leather bound books because the collections available were so great. We were walking around looking and about to leave once it started raining when I looked at once of the spinning “displays” and saw a book I had wanted for such a long time but could never find in person. I looked through some other books and the prices are very reasonable. I loved this place and totally recommend for everyone

This store has a very interesting eclectic collection. I could spend half a day browsing if I had the time. They’ve got books that would be a great addition to a serious book collection as well as some some fun titles for a souvenir. It would have been a great conversation starter and way better than a cheesy magnet.
Helena Andújar
Welcoming and helpful attendant. Surprising amount of hardcover, beautifully bound used books in great condition. Definitely worth a visit.
Meaghan Landrigan-Buttle
Great little bookshop. Was able to find a book from the 1950s that is quite rare. Friendly atmosphere and staff.
Benjamin Arthur Photography
Lovely little bookstore in the French Quarter with a fine selection of mostly second hand books. Also very friendly store assistant.
Carlos Babcock
Great store filled with local literary favorites and a great selection of maps and prints. The owner was extremely helpful.
Chad Brockway
Great store, the guy working here was beyond knowledgeable about various books and topics, he was very helpful.
Trishana Edmund
I can spend all day in this bookstore. You don't find places like this much anymore. Highly recommend coming in if you like some original finds.
Jeremy Shipley
Very nice selection of texts in the philosophy section. Good academic texts.

Mariaisabel Zweig

Ron Anthony
An amazing bookstore filled with amazing current and older books and maps. Quaint and wonderfully cozy. Made from an old house it has a special inviting feel to it.
Bill Wagner
Eclectic, well loved used book store run by people who care deeply about the books they sell.
Amanda Bumgarner
Some very unique, rare and first editions. Awesome place for bibliophiles
Stephen Benson
Really cool rare books/maps/photos collection. If I can figure out how to order some of the rare map lithographs they have online, I probably will . Unfortunately we were overloaded for our return flight home.
Adrianne Montoya
Don't be fooled by the smallish space-- this is a well-curated collection and the staff really know their stuff. They'll geek out with you over all things literary and bibliophilic. I've found several rare volumes here that I'd been casually hunting for years.
A.C. Antonelli
Super charming bookstore with lots of rare old books and prints.
Jerred Downs
Mostly newer books, but the front desk is very helpful and knowledgeable about authors which is a very good plus.
Lisa E McKim
This a great shop. Wonderful location, fantastic selection, and right across the street from the Chart Room. What could be better?? I enjoyed my first browse today and will certainly be back! In addition to all the great books, they have a really interesting selection of prints, woodcuts and other original pieces.
Wayne Daigle
Awesome store with a wonderful collection. And a nice cat.
Joseph Connor
My wife and I visited for the first time in 2019 at their former location. In July of this year we visited for the second time in their new French Quarter location. A great store, with wonderful books on New Orleans history. We urge anyone who visits New Orleans to go to it. The manager, Jason, is a sweetheart of a person. We were so happy to see him again!!! And very happy that the bookstore is surviving! Please make a point of visiting! We will be back!!
Bianca Fernandes
I’m so glad I happened to walk by this place! They have a wonderful collection of used and vintage books, plus some new ones. The prices are great and the staff was wonderful. I wish I had more time to explore the shelves- they had a really cool section highlighting local authors.
Vincent Basquiat
excellent old school book store
I highly recommend it.
Alyssa W
Large selection of vintage books, signed and first editions
LM CK
We walked past Crescent City Books several times before we went in and when we finally went in, we didn't understand why we had waited so long. They were the only book store in the area, so they lived up to every expectation we could have. They had 1st editions that we were afraid to touch. They had books on local folklore and history in addition to books you find everywhere else. Oh did I mention they ship? This place is awesome! Visit if you are in the area..
Andrew Korn
I came here twice during my trip to the city and had an excellent experience both times! The two gentlemen working were very nice and the books were priced well; far better than buying them new at a chain store.
Shane
The guy that works there is super nice and helpful. I love this place
Chloe Chaisson
Such a cool store! So many books. This place is what my dream home library looks like. Shelves upon shelves. Love supporting local businesses. Can't wait to come back.
ThatKidfromBKLYN !!
very knowledgeable....I actually came in to get a book as a gift...I ended a great collectors edition along with 2 other books(FOR MY SELF!!!!) that book is to nice I'll just get them a t-shirt or pralines of something🤣🤣🤣 …
Tyler Lutz
Wonderful curated collection of uncommon books with a local author/interest section as well. Found some cool occult related books.
Jennifer Urbanek
This is my favorite bookstore in NOLA. It offers books by local authors. Antique maps, prints, and rare books. Used and new books are available. Impressive poetry section and translations by Black Widow Press. The staff is extremely helpful, particularly Geoff. You will probably find what you want, something you didn't know you wanted, an amazing find, and a good conversation. There is also a beautiful blue cat to keep you company. This time I found some unusual 1st edition counterculture books from the 60s. Last time I bought some critical theory texts, French Surrealist translations, and two books written by local poets. There are also a surprising number of cookbooks and books on local history, myth, and culture. You can read one and be your own tour guide in the city.
Ren Scarbrough
Wonderful little bookstore that we stumbled across that was full of books and personality. Had uncommon books I've been wanting to read for a while by Steven Jay Gould as well as a very calm old cat who likes attention. Would love to go back and visit next time I go to New Orleans!
Kristin Ziska Strange
I stopped in while at a conference in town because I like to buy books from local booksellers everywhere I go. I had fun going through the shelves and had an incredible time chatting it up with the owner. I even came back and bought a few of the recommended books before I left town to go home. Such a great place to browse and buy!
Wesley Peden
It was a nice, well organized location. They had lots of great choices of books. I'm sure that I could have spent much longer just browsing around if I hadn't been short on time. The employees are very helpful and will go above and beyond to help find specific books. If I come back to New Orleans, I'll have to come back by and see the new selection.
London Scholle

Samantha Way
Good selection of books, well organized. A lot of very nice prints, though they were unfortunately out of my price range. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful!
Kevin Kousha
The folks at Crescent City books are always willing to help you find the right book, remember what you're looking for, and hold on to it for you. But my favorite feature is a simple shelf right in the front with their new arrivals. Every book on the shelf is worth reading, and especially when shopping for used books, it makes things painless. I never leave empty handed.
Stearns LaSeur IV
Old books, knowledgeable staff. Just wondered in, asked if they had a book I was looking for and they did. Prices better than online too.
Sam Jacobs

Vintage and used book shop on Baronne at Canal. This large store has lots to look through. I spoke with a helpful staff member about New Orleans themed books and he pointed me to a shelf of local interest materials. I chose “A confederacy of Dunces”. Duh! Anyhow, thanks to the staff’s helpful directions in less than five minutes I was standing in front of a statue of Ignatious Reilly right on Canal street. There I was, side by side with Reilly, holding a Pulitzer Prize winner while drunken tourists staggered about. On a Sunday afternoon! Don’t get me wrong, I was part of the degenerate throng only hours earlier. I sat to read the beginning and quickly found it hadn’t lost anything in humor or relevance over time. Thanks Crescent City Books!
Lillian Schmid
Plan to spend a few hours here because they have a huge, terrific selection! The guy working was incredibly helpful & seemed like a really nice guy. If I ever make it back to New Orleans, I'll definitely stop by here again.
Giselle Moulton
Staff was nice, Zelda the Bookstore's Store mascot was one of the chillest cats in NOLA. Books were priced higher than Powell's back home, but probably because the store was independently owned rather than a chain.
Kyle
A delightful little book shop. They also have some pretty fantastic old/rare/1st ed, as well as a cool collection of old maps.
Cayce Merrill
