So many reviews here talk about a great selection, but that's not what I experienced during my visit. It's pretty much the same as the big name chain we all know about, but with fewer choices. I took a brief look at the history section and just laughed. Won't be going back.

Jordan provided the most amazing customer service! I called in a surprise order for someone that would be visiting the store in the upcoming days. Parnassus is a piece of heaven. The staff members are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Whether you are ordering from them online or via telephone (I live three and a half hours away) or whether you are in the store visiting (like I was a few days ago), the service experience is truly special. The selection in-house is spectacular - but they are happy to order for you what they don't have in stock - and the store's atmosphere is so welcoming. Please support independent bookstores - but this one, in particular!

A very nice bookstore - and I'm a fan of Ann Patchett and have read many of her books - but the huge leak in the bathroom sink (probably at the rate of about a gallon per half an hour) truly bummed me out. Staff didn't seem to care. Fresh water is a limited, precious resource so it matters. It really does.

Fantastic book store! I went buy to pick up a book my daughter needs for school, and it was a great experience. The Parnassus team is friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about their business. They even recommended a good locally-owned coffee shop nearby. Everything was outstanding.

Fantastic collection. Excellent children's section. Dogs!!! A great spot for tourists and locals alike. Coming back three years later. This is my favorite bookstore and the highlight of my visits to Nashville. I don't have children, but I usually spend the most time in the children's section, picking things up for my nieces and nephews. They have such a curated collection that everything your eye lands on is a gem. We had a dog this time, and everyone was so sweet to her.

Curbside pickup has been a life saver and they have recently reopened with new covid protocols that are much appreciated. They do a number of events, and one of the few (possibly only) new book stores in Nashville. Great place to browse books. They also have very strong, reasonable covid protocols in place.

A bookstore owned by one of my favorite authors, staffed by book lovers, with dogs roaming free throughout the aisles...heaven. This is my happy place and a model for brick and mortar bookstores. I don't even read many physical books anymore, I'm almost ashamed to admit. The convenience of carrying an entire library in my purse via my iPad is why I'm able to cover so much reading ground each year. But a stop into Parnassus means I'll find perfect gifts for loved ones who are readers and always something for myself. I'll be traveling to Nashville next month and the one must see spot is Parnassus. This time, I'll probably need to ship packages back, now that I can linger there indefinitely. Leave yourself plenty of time to browse and enjoy!

Wonderful selection of fiction, non-fiction, children's books, and signed copies! Everyone that works there is exceptionally nice and helpful with their recommendations! The selection of children's books is excellent. They have your favorites, and others that are soon to be favorites. Their selection of independent publishers is also good. They also have a large YA lit section. If you're in the area, this is a must stop!

Very charming and enchanting independent store. They are filling the void left by Davis-Kidd. A perfect store for families and book enthusiasts. Very knowledgeable staff. Great layout, cute decor, thoughtful design. The store has tons of in-store events as well. Lots of fun. This store is a go to place for an experience beyond discount book purchasing. They are all about connecting with the community. Go there -many times- you won't regret it.

One of my favorite indie bookstores in town. Plus it's co-owned by the fabulous Ann Patchett. The store has lots of choices and genre categories. The staff is extremely knowledgeable. I personally love their children's books section - lots of variety and really cute decoration. Also the shop dogs are wonderful to have around while browsing. And if you ever need a literary gift, all of Ann's books are signed!

Beautiful store with a great selection, friendly staff, and always host events for book signings and promotions. They have some more obscure stuff too which was a nice surprise. The only major complaint is that there isn't enough of it. It's a small store but they make great use of what they have. Also, if i was a kid still, I would love their kids section.

The best bookstore, period. Ann Patchett fans, rejoice! Parnassus Books is the Patchett mothership! Their subscription service offers a different signed, first edition book delivered to your house every month. They support the best authors in the business and truly love books. Take my money! P.S. They offer Tuesday (publication-day) Instagram video posts by Ann and the staff. They are fantastic at keeping readers in the loop, and if you can't actually get to the bookstore, they make you feel like you are there looking around for a new favorite book to take home.

The employees are always so helpful, and I love just talking to them (and petting their cute dogs). Despite the current pandemic they have been keeping the literary spirit alive and working so hard to provide for and educate the Nashville community. Parnassus is always there when I need it most.

Every book lover in the Nashville area needs to stop by Parnassus Books at least once. It's an independent bookseller like nothing else you'll find. The collection is carefully curated by dedicated and friendly staff. The bookstore itself is very elegant inside with soft places to sit and read, a small stage for guest speakers, and - my favorite part - a small column like entryway children or flexible adults can duck through to reach the kids' books. The design section is fantastic; I always find something new. Many books have autographed copies. And of course don't leave until you've seen at least one of the dogs that frequent the shop! Last time he followed us around and then feel asleep on my husband's feet. It was the best afternoon.

A really nice book store in the middle of the mall. There was an impressive stage in the center of the store for author readings that could have been (and perhaps it was) a stage set for television shows - setup with great lighting, a comfy couch and an interviewing chair. The book selections were well curated and there was a good children's book section behind the stage set. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were surprised to find a four-legged employee ; a very friendly elderly K-9 looking to get his back or stomach scratched.

A beautiful bookstore, worth a side trip, if only to remember what bookstores used to be. Saturday's are the best days to visit, often with live music or author signings. But you can browse any day and count on the staff having selected the best new and classic titles you've never heard of, shelved alongside the familiar and the best selection of local titles in Tennessee. I never regret paying full price for a book at Parnassus.

Owned by a writer, this book store is for book lovers. They have talks on the weekends with visiting writers. They have all the right books, and we even ended up picking up a puzzle to do that evening. Their children selection is fantastic as well and it's organized by age range making it easy to find the right thing.

This is everything a great local book store should be. There are lots of author events, storytimes for the kiddos, shop dogs that hang out at the store, not to mention a great selection of books and if they don't have something the staff is happy to help get it for you or recommend an alternative. Thank goodness for Parnassus! I love having a real bookstore nearby. Everyone that works there is a ninja-level reader and can point you to the perfect book. The last time I went there I had such a lovely conversation with the staff about the books we read, I didn't really want to leave. Also, for a strip mall location, the place has great ambience! Parking is a little competitive at lunchtime, but its worth it! And the rest of the day its usually front row availability.

Wow! They have resurrected the indie bookstore in Nashville like a Phoenix bursting forth on fire. FANTASTIC STAFF! Very knowledgeable and friendly. Excellent author events. And they are expanding. If they don't have what you are looking for on the shelf, it is possible (if you are there early enough) to have it the next day ... no shipping charges either. Walk over from The Perch with your coffee and enjoy some book browsing.

They have an eclectic selection of books by authors both famous and just plain good! The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. I was able to find Jacksonland, a book that the big box store I'd been to didn't have, as well as a Peter Beagle book I didn't know he'd written (also not in the big box store).

We were fortunate enough to attend the book release of an old friend. We arrived a little after the presentation started and there were no chairs. I used my husband for support and decided to try to walk without my wheelchair as I was having a fairly good day. I collapsed at the front counter where my husband explained I was disabled and requested a chair. The sweet lady at the register arranged for chairs to be brought out for us both at the front of the room where our friend was. It was a wonderful environment with a very kind staff. Ordered from them through an online marketplace and I was very pleased at both the speed of delivery and condition of the book. Since then I've ordered several other books from other retailers and it's been a disappointing experience. After a little research I found that a lot of the quaint sounding "mom and pop" book stores are actually just fronts for larger companies that just warehouse books and give little to no customer service. The service you get from a place like Parnassus has made me a proud supporter of independently owned, sole proprietor book shops (and other small businesses in general).

Parnassus is not too big, very well organized and with treasures like a shelf just for Patchett Picks (that’s Ann Patchett for those of you not in the know). Parnassus Book store is a fine bookstore, albeit smaller than I had expected. It has an excellent selection of books including recent releases by well-respected writers. (Ann Patchett is one of the owners.) Located near Vanderbilt U., it is off the beaten track.

The reason you come here is for the staff. You can buy a book anywhere, but nowhere in Nashville will you be able to come into a bookstore looking for a gift for someone else (or yourself) with just some random ideas and come out with an Amazing book that you didn't even know you wanted. The staff know so many books and genres and what's new and hot, and what's a classic. From Children's Books, History, Fiction, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, YA, Drama... Parnassus' staff is worth the jacket price.

This is the kind of hometown bookstore you want - cozy, intimate, and beautiful - with the added bonus of having a selection that doesn't suffer from the smaller space. The booksellers have been friendly and accommodating every time I've visited, and there are usually interesting displays set up that catch my eye. On top of all this, Parnassus hosts many well-known and up-and-coming authors, and their events are always fun.

Really impressed by the sci-fi collection. Had mostly new authors I'd never heard of before (including N.K. Jemison who has now gotten me hooked), but they didn't neglect the classics. I even saw an Asimov title, hard to argue with a bookstore who still sells Asimov. I did think their political section and new titles were decidedly one-sided, very much a progressive bookstore and not much good opposing literature (either conservative or libertarian). But it's a private bookstore, they're not going to make everyone happy and I don't think that should be the goal anyway. The goal should be selling what they want and curating a good selection from those kinds of books. Also, their small section on classic works and philosophy seemed very balanced and thoughtful which is arguably more important than whether the curation of modern titles is politically balanced. Keep up the good work :)

The selection is thoughtful and incredibly, but it only impacts the customer when the staff is approachable, listens, and knows the inventory and the subject matter. We were looking for a biography of Harper Lee and Sarah not only introduced us to The Biography of Atticus Finch (which was more in line worth what we wanted), but also turned us on to a TEDX talk by the author. I can order a book on Amazon. I go to Parnassus to discover a book. Thrilled they exist and wish Atlanta had anything close. BTW- if you are buying children’s books to broaden minds, there is no place like PB. And the dogs. Don’t get me started.

Been coming here for months and I am in love. The staff is amazing and welcoming, the book clubs are informative and fun, and I love supporting a local bookstore. Parnassus is the perfect indie bookstore. (Plus, I love the shop dogs!!)

Ann Patchett wasn't there this time, but we've met her before at this wonderful bookstore of hers. A great selection of books for adults and children and all of her books are autographed. The best.
