Reviews of Elder's Book Store
I am a bit of an antiquarian and I was looking everywhere for this book about my ancestor's stomping ground and their neighbors in Nashville and Elder's bookstore was the place. While I live all the way in California. And made my purchased over the phone. The service was great. And the Book that was mailed was in perfect condition. I can not recommend this place enough. If I am ever on that side of the world I will definitely stop by. Until than I only encourage people living nearby to support Elder's bookstore.
If you like books and treasure hunts, this is the place for you. We went expecting a short visit and left after 4hrs. So much to look through we didn't have time to go through it all. Will definitely be making regular visits from now on. The owner was very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. Thank you!
One of the very few places in Middle Tennessee to appraise rare books. Mr. Elder appraised some valuable pieces for my school and it turns out that his father appraised the same pieces back in 1974
Just being among all the old books is great! The problem I had was finding a price. There are some shelves that say all books on this shelf is a price. Some books have a price on the inside. There are some bargain shelves and reduced books. But many do not have a price at all. Much is organized but you'll find an author on one shelf and then on a completely opposite wall and shelf. I think the trouble is they have so many copies that it is probably too hard to continously reorganize. But there is an incredible amount here. I just wished there were prices and I would have certainly buy much more.
Great book store. If you enjoy historical books and antique books this is definitely the place. They had a hard to find book I've been searching for. Friendly staff just ask they seem to know every book in the store. Prices were not only reasonable but they gave me a book to knock the price down. I would definitely recommend this book store to any paperback collector/reader.
Store owner helped me find the perfect gift for my wife for our anniversary! It was an amazing Luther Bible from the 1800s. She was thrilled! Such a rare and original find
Randy has a wonderful, wide range of books, antiquarian to full beautiful sets, a large collection of local Tennessee books, very impressive! He's a very hospital and welcoming person and a true professional of the trade. Go to Elder's! You won't be disappointed! - The Book Peddler
Place is a bit disorganized but not any more then other used books stores i've been to. If you visit a few times you'll start to get the hang of where to look for what interests you. I am an avid book collector so it's a lot of fun to browse in this store. I've always found something to purchase, and have even found some hidden gems for my collection. Beautiful store
Went on a Thursday not knowing what to expect. The moment I was greeted, asked if I needed any help. I browsed around and was making notes on my phone on the book, location so when I was able to come back I could grab what I wanted/need with no problem. The staff didn't seem to have a issue with me doing that and answered my questions I had. This is a little treasure chest for any history buff out there.i also enjoyed the little jokes posted on things. Dont real know why anyone would have had a bad experience here. If you aren't being polite and respectful of the FAMILY Business it is not a mark against them but you. Learn to be respectful, polite and you just might have a great time the second time you stop by. To the staff/ owners thank you and I will being back again!
Ordered a rare book for my GF for Christmas. The next day I got a call from Elder's asking how I would like it shipped and if I would like any other shipping protections for the delivery. I own a small business and was of course too involved in my own day to know what I wanted. The seller understood this and a few days later I unpacked my well over protected book in Great condition. Thank You Elder's. She is going to love it!
The selection of vintage and out of print books here is amazing. Bookstores like these are a real gem and truly hard to find these days. The owner was friendly and helpful.
I was too interested in the actual content of the store to see any "right-wing bias" as noted in other reviews. It's a shame people are willing to slander a business because they have different political beliefs. The quality of this bookstore is outstanding.
Mr Elder has a huge selection of books new and old, with a wealth of knowledge about our history.
Three stars for an impressive collection of rare, out of print and hard-to-find books. Large Civil War section. This is not the store if you're looking for contemporary stuff. Material is reasonably well organized. Owners never spoke to me when I was in the store and looked at me disdainfully when I thanked them as I was leaving (without buying anything).
Owners are kind and knowledgeable! Coolest bookstore I have ever been in! Spent a few hours in there just appreciated the historical and rare finds!
Visited Elder's looking for mystery books for my aunt who lives in assisted living facility. Owner escorted me directly to the bookshelves. Numerous books to select from. Chose 35 novels & priced very reasonably. I'll return.
Mr. Elder has a great selection of classics. He's even brought some older books from his personal collection for my fiance. We continue to bring our business to him.
That place is amazing!. I had seen it before when I was in that area but I didn't stop in there until today. I found 2 books on John Adams and 2 on Lincoln that I didn't have. I have lots of good reading ahead. Will go back there again!!.
No, it's not for all! - but I collect old books, and this is the place! Be nice! They are. Prices were generous. If you want Barnes and Noble, go there :) This is something else
Was shocked to find the most beautifully embossed REAL books...lol. Expansive selection of materials from old to new
Owner very knowledgeable and will look for specific requests as well
Impressive, large, and unique selection of antique books, maps, and magazines. The owner went out of his way to help me find books for my pre-1947 sports book collection
Great store and ownership. Hard to find books at fair prices. Thanks Elders!
Good selection. The owner can come off as a little grumpy. Silence your phone. I’ve found them to be helpful in finding what you want and making suggestions.
Come see Mr. Elder today for an expansive selection of specialty books gallor!
So many books! He had exactly what I was looking for.....and the price was so nice!
Wonderful selection! Many old and rare editions. Owners show a clear reverence for the printed word.
Great place to find rare gems. Very impressed
Wow, wish they had store hours that would be open later. 10am-3pm is pretty hard for working people to come and visit.
Sad to see it go
A wonderful place, been a favorite destination for years
Great place, expect to search for what you're looking for. Things are very disorganized.
Best bookstore in Nashville!!
Best bookstore in the world. The family knows everything.
Fascinating selection of Books on Tennessee history.
Meh.
Great service. Very friendly. Thank you.
Very knowledgeable about civil war and old artifacts
always a pleasure and intriguing store .
Absolutely amazing place & people
Great bookstore!
Great
Found a book about my ancestor William Keele son of Richard Keele Revolutionary War Soldier …Established many Churches in Tennessee. So wonderful! Book was in Great shape!
This bookstore is a gem as rare as the books it houses. From newer used books to rare and antiquarian, there are treasures for just about any interest. The owner, Mr Elder, does demand some level of reverence and respect for the weight of the words housed in these pages and on these shelves (be quiet, and no cell phone use allowed, hence why I have no pictures inside the store). I found him to be very friendly and helpful after I took some time to quietly browse and show my respect for the store and the masterpieces within. He was very reasonable and even made a unique suggestion for me.
I walked away with an 1855 Bible, an 1882 book on ministry, a commentary set, and a rare copy of Homer's Iliad. It was a great day and I'll be back plenty.
