This is such a cool bookstore for kid books. There are animals throughout, the front door is kid-sized, and such a huge selection! And prices are also really good for the stuff we looked at! We look forward to returning later!

What a great bookstore. It's so imaginative especially with the broken ice and upside down canoe on the ceiling. It's very Whimsical for children with chickens in the store and little corners for them to sit in. Great range of books including lots by local authors as well. Well situated next to restaurants and toy shops so one could really make an afternoon out of it. Charming neighborhood.

Great Book Store a lot of fun love that they have wild animals in there maybe not the best place to go for someone who has allergies to animals but all of the animals are friendly they have cats a chinchilla a live chicken a tarantula and I believe there's mice intentionally in the floor. Lots of good books and accessories for kids and adults mainly for children but if your parent that likes books you enjoy this location. They have standard pricing it's comparable to other kids bookstores I think they all are priced the same to be honest. The only thing that was bad about my experience was going out to my car and seeing that I got a ticket for expired tabs which was my fault cuz I didn't realize they were bad but if there's anything not up to code with your vehicle I wouldn't recommend parking out front of their store the cops around there are vicious LOL I also love the mini door they have at the store hope this helps someone.

This place is amazing! If you have children (who aren't allergic to animals), they will lose their minds in this place. They have cats and a chicken roaming around, caged chinchillas, a ferret, rats, doves...It's a zoo/petting zoo and bookstore all in one. Warning that it's hard to park nearby and it gets busy on weekends, but otherwise a good time. The design of the place is something to see. A canoe forging it's way through the ice across the ceiling. The animal cages are in a wonderful little abandoned cabin that looks like you stumbled upon it in the forest. It's like you're in a book. They have a ton of books for kids and a small section of books for adults. Worth it to check out.

My kids have always looked forward to visiting this quaint little bookstore. Such a whimsical nook with lots of character! From the creaking floors to the live pets scattered about the store, it feels more like a good friend's house than a business. We love it here and highly recommend it for people of all ages!

Non accessible for wheelchairs but super solid selection and a fun time for kids. The animals are cool to have around while you explore the store. Go on a weekday super packed during the weekend.

I would have loved this place if my parents had brought me here in my childhood! The door that has a tiny kid's door in it is magical and got my son super excited. The two cats hanging around were so nice and gentle. (Allergy warning I guess) I had no idea they had a little zoo like area with pets in cages. Some doves that my son tried to talk to or mock for a while. A couple of rats and chinchillas. The book selection is amazing! I love how it's organized and how easy it is to find something that you either came specifically for or just something new to try from a certain age level. They had every book of every series I saw. We stayed for a writer, speaking about her new book. It was nice, cozy and informational. I usually don't like paying full price for books. I prefer to go online or Half Price most of the time. But I seriously got so wrapped up in the fantasy and fun here that I wanted to throw my money at them and bought much more than I normally would, happily. Well worth multiple visits! :)

Such a neat place. Great place to start your weekend with great food and biking nearby. The store is alive with fish, chinchillas, cats, etc.. and is overall an amazing venue to inspire readers of all ages.

I loved this place! My kids (3 and 5) and I were greeted by Neil the chicken. We got to pet kittys and see the ferret. The place is well organized and we were asked if we needed help. The lady who helped me knew right where the book I was looking for was. Their website is also super nice and helpful. I am unsure if there is any sort of parking lot for them however. Street parking can be tough in the area.

Cool little bookstore for kids. My daughter loved the smaller kids sized door cut in the regular adult door. They have a couple of free range cats, both seemed super calm and gentle. THEY DON'T TAKE CASH, so plan accordingly.

This is such a wonderful book store! So much to look at for kids and adults, and has animals. The only thing I will say that is a disappointment is how rude the employees are. I don’t leave reviews often but every staff member that worked there was cold, unwelcoming and rude. One staff member even yelled at my nephew (3 years old) about putting a mask before me and his mom had even fully made it through the door with a baby carrier! It was my first time so I was willing to let it go, but my sister in law said that every time she goes there she experiences rude behavior from the staff. Such a bummer, which is why I am sharing! Hopefully they can improve this aspect and have fun happy and interactive staff members to engage with the kids!

So much fun to explore as a kid, from the child-sized door to the cats, chickens, and other animals that fill the store. I didn't go in, nor even sure if it's open right now. I ordered online and picked up my book. Call when you get there and they'll place your order on the doorstep. Also, the book I ordered was sold out and they were waiting for another printing, and they did a great job of keeping me updated on when it would be available. Love, love, love this store! This bookstore is one of the best. I have been going here since could barely walk, and 20 some years later, nothing has changed. This bookstore is magical. From a kid sized entrance, a kayak breaking through the ceiling, an aquarium for a mirror in the bathroom, to numerous animals wandering around. Everything here is just perfect. Their book selection is fantastic, but they environment they have created is completely unique and must visit.

Amazing children's bookstore. The layout is easy to navigate. The people who work there are all fantastic. They were so nice to this new mom who was pretty overwhelmed with all book options these days. We made it to a story time once and we're still singing the songs we learned and I can't wait to go back. Getting 20% off list price with the bag is an awesome deal, always cheaper than Amazon. I bought gifts for my niece there and they gift wrapped it beautifully. Great area to spend a few hours too.

This is a great place to take children of all ages for books. Smaller children get to use the purple door; a door sized for children. (My three year loves that the door is his size!) There are plenty of comfy nooks and crannies to sit and read or just take a picture walk. There is a wide variety of books. The staff are helpful and very friendly. The cats roam free while the birds are safely caged. :)

When we first walked in I was super excited because they have such a wonderful selection of books, and they even have cats, chickens, birds, and a couple other animals in the store that my son loved! I was highly disappointed in the service! Not one associate greeted us, helped direct us in the right direction, or made us feel welcome. I did end up buying my son a few books because their selection is amazing, but I really wish they would have been more friendly and inviting.

Live animals including chickens, cats, and rabbits. Not a petting zoo. The store focuses on YA and children's books. You can find Where's Waldo but don't expect the latest Danielle Steele. At most you could spend 30 minutes in the store and walk out with a great gift idea for your niece/nephew. Remember SAT scores are directly correlated with reading to children when they are young.

I had a fantastic time with my 4 year old son here. He spent the first 20 minutes looking for all of the cats and petting them. Once one of them laid down on a couch he found a cat book and pretended to read it to him. You could spend hours looking through all of the different children's books here. They have an amazing selection of books and ones that you would be hard pressed to find other places. Plus the staff is extremely helpful and very nice.

This is hands down probably the best family book store in the US. Very very proud to have it in our city. From the wandering chickens to the calm, tailless cats; from the spooky book tunnel to the little door within a big door You can use to enter the store, Wild Rumpus goes beyond shelves with good books for kids to a full sensory experience. The staff actually knows about books, and it would be a sad sad day if Wild Rumpus were to close, so you feel genuinely motivated to buy some books and support places like this, places that make kids feel utterly welcome and loved and joyful about reading, animals, and more. Plus it's in a great area, so coffee, dining, gift shopping, bakeries and ice cream can all be part of the same trip. We go often, and love to bring people from out of town. Everyone wishes they had a store like this!

Though during busy times it feels a little cramped in there, I still give it 5 stars because they have a great staff, a big variety of children's books, fun animals to see, and they are so good at community events. Wild Rumpus is a rare gem of the Twin Cities. It is part of the soul of the Linden Hills neighborhood and I sure hope it stays around in this digital shopping era. Wild Rumpus is all-around lovely, cozy, unique, fun, and inspiring. Not only is there wonderful decor (look up at the ceiling and walk through the tiny, kid-size door), staff, and books, but they have pets, too! Sometimes they have aquarium animals like a tarantula and a lizard, in addition to ferrets, chinchillas, and birds. They always have cats cuddling somewhere in the store. They used to have chickens wandering about, but I haven't seen them lately. Wild Rumpus is a must-visit destination for parents with children of all ages. It's so much fun to visit and support this local bookstore.

Wonderful selection of books for children and adults alike! There was a special storytime and coloring activity going on when we visited. We loved everything about Wild Rumpus— the quaint double door entry (a smaller door for the young ones), the wond frilly curated book selection, the super cozy atmosphere, and of course the animals who live at the shop! We were greeted by a silk chicken who was wandering around the front of the store— how fun!

Amazing book store! I Have been going since childhood and it's just as magical as it was when I was a child. THEY HAVE ANIMALS! Awesome and magical animals such as cats with no tails and chickens, both that roam amongst the feet of the wide eyed and bewildered of those that come in. Over the years I've seen chinchillas, ferrets, birds, etc etc.. And then the book selection! It's really a children's bookstore but it has so much more than that. Books for those of all ages because books are for those of all ages! Finding a great book for yourself in this shop is like finding something to eat in a grocery store, they have an abundance and then some. If you ever visit linden hills, make this a must visit. Just promise me that when you walk thru the door (or mini door!), and after you pet a cat or hold a rooster, promise me, that you will hunt for a book-give the place a good explore , make it a book you've read before from your younger years or even one you've never read before. Then, go find a place on a couch or in a quiet corner, sit down, open your book, close your eyes, breathe, take it all in and let the magic happen.

This is a great bookstore. The employees really know and understand children and the books meant for them. There are fun displays, little corners to read in, and interesting pets wandering around. The only drawback is that it only has street parking, and that can be difficult to find, especially before their very popular story time.

Always enjoy coming here. My daughter has been here before, but we've only made gift card purchases. This time it was her 1st experience picking out a book for herself for keeps. Sorry to the staff, she gathered up armfuls of books and hauled them to where I was- like the library. We cleaned up best we could, then went over book STORE etiquette. She finally settled on a book, and at the last second wanted to change it for an impulse buy in a wrapped package. We got through it. 😣🤔 WR is a fantastic independent bookstore that is no where near on our way to anywhere we go. It's always worth the trip!

The Wild Rumpus is one of those places that once you have been to, you can't help yourself from coming back. Tucked into one of my favorite neighborhoods in the Twin Cities, you approach the storefront with a unique door. It is a normal sized door painted black, but with a smaller functioning, purple door as a cutout. That is just where the magic begins. As you walk around inside, notice the ceiling, the animals and other little decor that are scattered about the space. It is truly a magical bookstore. They have every genre of children's book, every size and every color. There is a small section for "older readers" and a "recycled" book section in the back. Would highly recommend, especially if you want to entertain some kids for a while!

Most are for kids, though there are some for older audiences. You might want to doublcheck your teenager's choices, there are some authors/books that might need some parental guidance.

First time to the rumpus and brought the kiddos. Loved it. The door to get in the bookstore is cool. Cats, birds, other animals I dont know names to, and a fancy chicken. Loved it. Check out the aquarium in the bathroom by turning out the light.

Awesome kid's bookstore with a great selection of big titles and lesser known gems. They have an excellent storytime that we took our daughter to when we were visiting Minneapolis. It was very well attended and the employee that did the reading was very energetic and engaging.

This place is great, if you can get there when it's not overflowing with people. They have 2 cats that have free reign inside, a ferret in a cage, a bird in a cage, a chinchilla (or something similar) in a cage and some chickens that have free reign inside. The chickens are outside for part of the morning, so it's quite a bummer if you're there at that time. Their selection of books is enormous. It's fairly hard to watch a little one who only wants to chase the cats if you actually want to look for books though...

A (mostly) children's book store with live animals! If you have kids that are into reading, this is a serious stop for you. The shelves are jam packed with books. Plus there are cats and a chicken wandering around the store. There are other animals in cages. Chinchilla, rats, birds. Make sure to check out the bathroom mirror. There aren't too many places like this around.
