Great selection of used (sometimes new) books. Super helpful folks working there - I observed a customer looking for a certain type of book and the employee asked a few clarifying questions and found a bunch of niche books for the customer. It was really hard to not leave with tons of books. Very fair prices too!

There's an out-of-print book I've been wanting to acquire for years but always way overpriced. I found them online and saw that they had this book in stock and for a reasonable price. Most of the time, this book is not in very good condition and when I saw their reasonable price, I was concerned. They assured me the book was in good condition. I just got it and they were wrong! It's not in "good" condition; it's in LIKE NEW condition!!! There's slight discoloration of the out page edges (it's an old book and expected) but the inner pages were perfectly white with bold text, the spine is perfect, and the book cover in great condition. Look, I am very picky when it comes to book quality (I collect rare books). This book was kept in great condition and does not appear to have even been read. I'm so thrilled. I've been looking to acquire this book for years. Well worth the wait and a great price from an honest and great book seller.

Traveling through Minneapolis to visit a friend, popped into The Book House in Dinkytown and loved it! The selection was amazing, and the prices were fair. Since I was flying, the staff offered to ship my books home to me. The package arrived yesterday as they promised and they even wrapped the books with great care! Super classy to go the extra mile!

Very cute "hoke is the wall" bookstore with a huge collection. Their rare book section is a fanatic selection to even just look at, so much history in such a small place. It's also really cheap, I got a slightly used copy of Dune for $5

I don't get to the cities very often, and I'm not like a huge fan of the campus area, but I make especially sure to make a trip over to the book house. I feel like a quaint farmers market lesbian hipster when I go thru their bookshelves, which is basically my dream. They don't have a ton of 'new' releases, but that almost makes it better!

Great book store. Decent prices. You will save money by going to this bookstore over Barnes and Noble, and dare I say you are more likely to find an interesting book. Note that this is mostly (if not entirely) a used book store, so you may not find EXACTLY what you seek if you are seeking a particular novel. But if you want to get lost in a new finding, go find that book here.

I found an older, “hard to find” book at The Book House of Dinkytown. The hardcover book is in great condition with a very good dust jacket; binding is tight, sturdy, and square; text is very good. Minimal/minor shelf ware. The price was very reasonable. Shipped quickly; was very well packaged and protected for the journey. Excellent experience with this seller. I will do business with them again and recommend them. Plus … how can you not love the name??

I've been going to the book house for almost ten years as a buyer/seller and have had uniformly good experiences there. The staff are fun to talk to, and the shop itself is fun to visit. Very atmospheric. Regarding their selection, it's better than anywhere else in town, at least for the books I'm interested in, and the prices are always very reasonable. They have consistently maintained a good balance between paying their sellers enough to keep them coming back, and pricing their books low enough to compete with internet sales.

My favorite used bookstore in the Twin Cities. Expertly curated selection, very fair prices, and a charming ambience that can't be beat. Also, the staff is super friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I always head to the new arrivals shelf first, as it's restocked daily! A must-visit for any serious reader and/or book collector.

It may look small when you first enter this store, but as you explore, one room after another (with books, of course) will turn up. What really shines here, in my opinion, is the selection. The shelves are well-stocked with academic gems, at least in subjects that I am interested in. Prices are generally quite good, although you can never compare them to the best bargains online. Last but not least, I applaud their effort in stuffing some seating into the limited space inside. Many used book stores just do not bother doing that.

I do not have words to express how amazing the owner and employees are at this store. My uncle Don treasured each of them, frequented their store for as long as I can remember, and would have them send me boxes of gorgeous books no matter where I lived in the country. He passed away 2 days ago and this group of amazing people are assisting me in properly disposing of my uncle's treasured and expansive collection. I honestly do not know what I would do without their kindness during this difficult time. I will be a customer for life.

Packed with books, labyrinthine, and fun to explore. As a friend of mine noted, the shelves are constructed to hold as many books as possible, not to be easily navigated or necessarily let people through. The prices are very good, and there will often be multiple editions of a book. But sometimes not - it's a used good store. The entrance is a little hard to find if you're not looking, or if it's pouring rain. The staff are usually listening to something, and are helpful. I bought a stack of books when it had started pouring rain, and the cashier put them in a plastic bag, and put a plastic bag on top to keep the rain out. As I was going down the stairs he said "80% waterproof; do not submerge."

One of the best bookstores in the Twin Cities. I love their radical/Marxist shelf. I try to visit at least once a month to look at their "new arrivals" shelf, which has great deals on very cool texts: economics, theology, literature, foreign languages, ecology, etc. I'm a big fan!

I've been coming to this place for years, from the 1st day I stepped foot inside of this place I was in love. Seriously, it's a readers dream come true, perhaps is just me but the nostalgia and intimacy of this place alone makes it much more than just another "bookstore". Its almost a date spot lol! One of the best, if not the best book selections in the Twin Cities!

So many interesting books to be found in this rather cozy second floor used bookstore. The two guys who work there are always helpful and always take the time to chat customers up and make them feel welcome. Adds to the sense of place. Rather nice because a lot of bookstores around town ignore their customers entirely. A number of people have told me that the BHD carries through with the same kind of professionalism in their online business.

As an avid reader and a supporter of small, local businesses I decided for the first time to check out the Book House. I bought a hard copy book and the cashier told me they had a soft cover that was a couple dollars cheaper. Being a cash strapped college student I got the cheaper soft cover but was surprised that the cashier would bring that up. I'll def. be going here again since they have a large selection and a great staff.

By far, the Book House in the Dinkydale Mall is one of my favorite independently owned bookstores in the Twin Cities. Don’t go in expecting to find one particular book for your undergraduate English literature class; that is what the university bookstore is for even though there is that rare likelihood they will have a used copy of that assigned book. Expect to find books that are related to genres and subject matters generally. To me, Book House is more of an adventure. You find what you recognize as valuable for your own purposes. The place for the autodidact! It is a great place to lose yourself in for hours on end. It is surprisingly quiet and serene inside. There is an impressive philosophy and science section where you can find things as unique as poetry compilations by Buckminster Fuller. The selection is wide and veritable offering numerous genres. I imagine it helps to be located on a university campus which attributes vibrancy to the unique variety offered at Book House. Although I do not make it out to Dinkytown often, but when I do, I always make it a point to stop at the Book House. I hope the Book House remains for generations! It is indeed a staple of the local community.

Book house is great! Definetily a stand out store in the Dinkytown neighborhood. The selection of books is massive, and every time I go I find something new I want to buy. The location is a bit tricky, so it may be under the radar for a few folks, but it is a true diamond in the rough. The employees are allways helpful and knowledgable about the books, and I have had great conversations with a few of them. Definetily worth a check out!

This place encapsulates the magic of the bookstore, (or music store or clothes store...) where you can look and browse and find something that gives you joy but you didn't know you were looking for.

The Book House is the intellectual hub for the Twin Cities. All across the board the Book House beats every other bookstore in the TC for serious subjects like philosophy, history, literary criticism, cultural studies, etc. You don't go to the Book House for frothy bestselling fiction, academic lite, or a wide assortment of kitschy knick knacks. You go there for intellectual nourishment. Great used book shop on the second floor of what I think is an old apartment building (not sure). You could spend hours winding through each room and their stacks of books. The guy who helped me was very friendly.

Very interesting; lots of odd or rare books, but nothing I actually needed. I googled "used textbooks mn" and this was the second hit so I assumed they might have some textbooks, but sadly they had none that were recent. (Or at least I couldn't find them. The place is like a maze.)
