Reviews of Magers & Quinn Booksellers
Lainey Cameron
What an awesome book store! I went to a book event there (Ali Brady launch of The Beach Trap), and the staff were organized, friendly, helpful.
So much selection, beautiful front tables where I wanted every book on display!
If you’re in need of a book in Minneapolis or just want something to do and browse for an hour, this is the place to be! Lots of signed copies available, including by local authors, too.
Greg Zillgitt
Fantastic book store with a vast selection of popular and hard-to-find items. Great prices on older books. They could use a few chairs for us older folks who would like to spend a while in the store. The immediate area (Lake & Hennepin) is in decline with many boarded-up storefronts. I hope this store survives.
Michelle Müssle
I love that it is a vintage place; it gives the essence of a movie. However, I feel like it could be more organised or somehow “lighter” on the eye since they have an incredible variety of books, and it gets boring when you’re trying to find something interesting.
In the clearance area, they have a bit of everything, and they have incredible prices, but, as I said, it is too messy to get something on a specific topic of interest.
Savanna Janicki
I absolutely love this bookstore. I walk past on my way to work and always scope out new books in the windows and also the discounted books on the shelves outside. I have found some great discounted books! I also just love the space and they have a great selection. I even love the cute little bookmark they include when you buy something!
Alex Rudie
One of my favorite book stores. Locally owned with cozy vibes. They stock everything from New books, used, and collectors items. Call them up for a custom order. The staff is super friendly and always eager to help. I love coming in just to get lost among the shelves filled with books that loom overhead.
Brad Lee
A wonderfully delightful book store with a lot of books and a wide range of topics. A most pleasing experience all the way around. 😁 …
Alicia Ruminsky
Wide selection of books and periodic staff recommend picks. Staff are very nice if you want help. Sometimes if you bring your dog they will offer a dog biscuit. Street parking around the corner. Book pickup is also easy in the alley behind the building if you order books from the website.
Kristen Rascher
One of my favorite bookstores! The staff are friendly and helpful, and there’s a great selection of books, comics, journals, etc here. I always find something I like and something new to check out.
Kenzie Tri
Great books, better staff! Beth V was SO helpful when I stopped in, she's so friendly and welcoming :) This bookseller's a gem of Minneapolis, and I hope to be back very soon!
Jillian King
10/10 experience ordering in bulk, the Outside Sales department is wonderful. They answer any and all questions the best they can and go above and beyond in making sure everything arrives by the time you need it. They also had it delivered directly to us to save us some time.
Special shoutout to Kayla and James.
Thomas Moore
beautiful store. We need literature in life and Magers and Quinn delivers - great inventory; they'll readily order whatever they don't have on the shelves; and they host regular readings/talks/events. helpful staff. i love the place.
Sandy Aubin
A wonderful bookstore with friendly, knowledgable staff. Very welcoming environment. Excellent browsing!
JOE FERRONE
My fave book store in Minneapolis. Great selection, really friendly and helpful staff.
Erin Eliason
Love this place! One of the best bookstores Minnesota had to offer, with a great selection of new and used books, friendly staff, and a great atmosphere.
Ariane Laxo
One of the best local bookstores in the Twin cities
Robert Gotwalt
When I lived in Minneapolis M&Q was always a first resource for the books I wanted or needed. Now that I live on the East Coast, I use them as a preferred provider for some of the literature I read. Their books always arrive earlier than expected and always in pristine condition. Kudos to the staff and Thank you from a very satisfied customer.
David Nelson
Easy pickup option and quick service to order your favorite book. Pleasantly surprised to receive a signed copy of my book too!
Bridget Dugan
Felipe, I don’t know who you are, but I would go to Greece with you in an instant.
Jeffrey Hunsberger
Mager's & Quinn is a real, great bookstore.
Anna M-G
Love this little bookshop.
Always nice staff and good finds
Could spend hours in there
Seems if you sell, they don’t give much but that would be the only negative I find here
Angelica M
I’ve always loved going to this bookstore, I’ve bought countless of books here. Such a variety and it has the most welcoming atmosphere to it. I love bringing friends here it is such a magical place. They have both new and used books for great prices. I’ve had minimal encounters with their staff, but they’ve always been kind at the register.
I ordered a book online for next day pick up (no extra charge) during this covid situation. It ended being ready the same day I ordered which was awesome. They have a great set up for pick up.
Ellen Szostak
I was in town exploring the city before moving there in the fall and was so excited when I happened upon this gem!! This was a paradise for a book lover like me! So many books and great prices too! I don’t know why anyone would go to a big box store with this in town!
Courtney Johnson
Well organized, wide variety, and the kindest humans! One of my favorites bookstores in the Midwest.
Morgan Ming
Super cute local bookstore. Good selection. Mildly hard to navigate, but felt incredibly warm and welcoming inside
Rudy Taylor
A Twin Cities Godsend 🥰🥰🥰
As close to Orr Books as any other book store in Our Cities 💖💯 …
Lisa Gallagher
I’ve spent more time wandering the rows of Magers and Quinn than I have in most other MPLS establishments, and for good reason - this is an amazing bookstore. Not only do they already have an incredible selection in-store, but the staff is always ready to help you get a hold of the book you’re looking for even if it needs to be ordered. Also, they have wonderfully unique gifts for book lovers, too (candles, apparel, art, etc.). I just love this place!!!
Tara McDaniel
My favorite! You can find amazing books here - new, used, unusual editions, signed copies, old bindings. They've got excellent staff recommendations throughout the shop. Also great book or art related items like tshirts, calendars, soap, mugs... super nice staff.
Nicole Kari
This is my favorite bookstore in the Twin Cities. They have friendly staff who give great recommendations, it's cozy, and pretty affordable. I love killing time here even if I don't buy anything, but I usually find something, and often it has been the spontaneous or recommendation-driven purchases that have been my favorites. I always visit if I'm in the neighborhood, or if I want to find something specific, this is my first stop.
thelwbs12
Solid bookstore.
They have good prices new and occasionally I'll find a used book for pretty cheap.
Very good customer service for ordering something they don't have on hand.
Dog friendly
Kayleen Hunt
I have seen several fantastic authors here. Every event I go to is well organized, and fun. It is a great sized bookstore, with lots of books to choose from to devour. What I really like is that all of the books, ones that I saw anyway, was discounted from the publisher price. And I also really like that there was a massive clearance section, and that they have more than just bestsellers. Many, many not as known books waiting to be read too. And lots of local authors, which is so nice
Brandy Churchill
My personal favorite book shop. They have a wide selection of books at good prices, and you can shop on their website too, if you prefer. Their staff are helpful and make good recommendations if you don't have something specific in mind. Great location near the lake and other shops and restaurants so you can go read your new books over coffee or lunch.
Emma S.
Huge selection of books and very friendly staff!
Sebastijan fino
Wow I love this bookstore. Iv only been once and my first time was last monday. I had got old classic literature by Victor Hugo and they were old books from a previous over. The publication print was from 1952 and the books are in amazing condition. I appreciate the passing of books from one generation to the other. I usually give my books to Family and friends. Well I want to say to the previous owner. How thankful I am to have these. I will enjoy them and when I finish them. I too will pass the books on to another. Thanks to the staff for showing me the literature section and letting me roam.
Books, Toilers of the Sea, The Laughing Man and Ninety Three.
Sierra Morris
This bookstore has such a broad and amazing selection of books - used and new. The staff is always super helpful as well! Recently, I have been shopping their online store, and they have ever title I could imagine. Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting some new reads!
Olivia Bohringer
My favorite spot in all of the twin cities. Hands down, the best place to find authors you wouldn’t expect on subjects you typically wouldn’t gravitate towards. I always leave there with 5-10 reads I didn’t expect to find, and at prices they cannot be beat. I really appreciate that they often mix used copies with new copies, so you can often find a lightly used version of a book you love for $5-10 less than new. THE BEST!
Granny Gran
Kathleen is a jewel. She was very kind and understanding of my lack of understanding internet protocols. Took time to get the in-store book off the shelf to help me determine that I was buying the correct manual, and sold it to me by phone so that I didn't have to struggle with online shopping. That may be in her job description, but it was a huge help to me. Thank you Kathleen.
Sarah Rostance
One of the best used and rare bookstores in the city! They have a great local section, their staff picks are unique and varied, the kids section is kid friendly, and their staff is very knowledgeable. If you need a book, support Magers & Quinn, independent and worth every minute you spend inside!
Paul C
I have had nothing but great experiences at this bookstore. Everyone who has helped me has been so friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend supporting this small independent business!
Alli Tripp
One of the best bookstores in region, great selection both used and new. Frequent fantastic author visits and writing/book events, check the store calendar. Great gifts, I just got a gift certificate for a birthday gift today. Awesome employees & customer service.
matthew olsen
Stopped by to pick up a book with Ms Luna, the staff are wonderful and gave her a nice treat.
Neil Ross
Best one-stop book shop in Minneapolis!
Expansive departments abound here, from fiction to domestic and world history, impeccably organized. Another plus is their juvenile section, which features new, gently used and cut-out titles packed with surprises for the patient bookshop addict.
European and Canadian cut-outs about here, and before purchasing any title, shoppers would be wise to compare the everyday 10% discount off cover for those that are gently used, overstocked or deleted from the catalog.
Although the staff here is quintessentially bookish, I have not yet encountered a snob in the mix. Dogs on leash are welcome, and the spacious interior has enough room to peruse one's stack of titles for awhile.
M&Q is also a reasonable place to sell your gently used books, and while their payouts aren't they used to be (whose are?) they far exceed the payouts of Half-Price Books and other corporate outlets.
Near the busy intersection of Hennepin and Lake, on-street parking within a few blocks of the shop is often limited. Check neighboring streets for options.
Consult the store's website for their latest readings and signings, many featuring top-tier authors.
The demise of the private, independent bookseller is a continuing problem these days, so your support of Majers & Quinn will brighten your day and make the world a little better.
Larry Staudmeister
I recently purchased The Eucharistic Words of Jesus from Magers and Quinn Booksellers. My order was placed on 3/29/2021 and I received it via USPS on 4/4/2021. I consider the condition of the book to be better than advertised and easy to read. Thank you for your rapid processing and shipment? LS
Thomas Crouse
Magers & Quinn always has an amazing selection of new and used books, and their prices are phenomenal. Stop buying books from Amazon and search Magers & Quinn instead; they'll probably have it for a similar price and you'll be supporting a local bookstore instead of a soulless corporate behemoth. What's more, Magers & Quinn took a chance on our little publishing company. Pre-COVID, they let us host multiple literary events in their space. We launched our flagship book series in their store, and we're forever grateful for their dedication to the local lit community.
Chris
Great selection of used books here across all genres. Everything from rare signed first editions and Easton Press copies to manga and vintage children's books. Very cool. Shipping home to NH wasn't half bad either. $4 for first book and $1.50 for each additional one. Support your independent bookstores folks!
becky greeley
Friendly staff, reasonable pricing, great gifts - perfect place to settle in and explore some literature or just plain reading for fun! Love this place!
John O'Neill
Amazing old book store in the center of Uptown. It is a really vast collection of material. Among the best stores in the city.
Leika Schmidt
Wow. First of all, I have been living in uptown for more than a Dozen Years and when I finally walked in my mind was blown. This place has so many books and anything that you're looking for they would be happy to assist you. I was there late one night with a friend who wanted to look at spells and occult stuff. We definitely found what we were looking for.
Michael McInerney
Amazing bookstore. I had several specific types of books that I needed and they had a great selection in each. And most important to me, the staff knew where to point them out to me.
Judy M.
During the pandemic, I’ve been ordering books by mail. Magers & Quinn has been communicative and without error in filling my orders. Plus they keep postage costs down.
Before the pandemic, I enjoyed browsing in the store and staff were always helpful and knowledgeable.
K S
Having cut my book-loving teeth in one of the best independent bookstores in the country, then watching it fade in the shadow of online booksellers, this gem of a store in Uptown is a welcomed balm for a soul hungry for the physical experience of book shopping. Because of the nature of the business, the stock needs to have a little something for nearly every taste. A double-edged sword: it may seem like limited selection, but they stay in business. Independent. Local. Alive. These are good things.
Sara Schultz
Terrific book store with a wide selection. Helpful but busy staff. Great perusing on a weekend. They have a selection of old maps and art prints worth browsing and they'll buy your old books if you need room on your self. Keep your eyes peeled for sidewalk sales!
Shawn Karber
This is a great bookstore. From outside it looks like a tiny little mom and pop bookstore, but once you go in you realize it's gigantic. It extends a long ways back, yet it retains that local bookstore charm. The prices are good and the staff is friendly.
bookworm
I love coming here. Everyone is super friendly. I love finding things in the sale section. I am into vintage and antique books so it’s fun when I find something there for a few bucks.
Roberto DeVet
Great store to browse and buy, prices are OK, not too high but not low either. Be warned: they make you check your back pack. I find Half-Price books more friendly but less convenient.
Bad place to sell your books. You might be better off donating you books to a thrift store and taking the tax break.
Laura Trantham
This is a great book store! Very well organized with a diverse selection. They are also conscientious about "social distancing" , provide masks and sanitizers at the door. Friendly and welcoming staff.
Anthony Maki
The largest, independent bookstore in Minneapolis. It’s truly a joy to wander in here and get lost looking for books. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable, just like you’d expect a librarian to be. If I had to pick on one thing, I’d say their technical books on computers, technology, programming, etc., could be updated and expanded (I felt like I had traveled back in time a bit looking at that section).
Eldora Quinn Nurrenbern
GIANT BOOK STORE, GIANT BOOK STORE, GIANT BOOK STORE! I'm a book store nerd, so I get excited when I see large maze-like ones. Although, its size can be overwhelming tji mg s are pretty easy to find. The staff is incredibly helpful with both ordering and finding books in and out of the store.
Darren Wacker
I am a big fan of independent bookstores and the experience of just walking the aisles and discovering. Magers and Quinn delivers on this experience in spades. A great independent with outstanding selection. Very helpful staff.
Also, they have a speaker series of authors that come through on a regular basis. Saw Chuck Klosterman there.....so good.
stav0068 University of Minnesota
Great bookstore. However, you really need to make it easier to purchase books on the site. The only website I have ever struggled with getting to accept credit card information in this way! Please fix this if you want to keep customers. It's a problem.
Etienne M
I ordererd a book from here all the way to the netherlands. And it was packaged and handled with care. I got my rare book in a package that resembled Fort Knox. No issues, fast and great service. Thank you for the great service.
Leynia
Magers & Quinn is an independent book store. That is important to me. They have an outstanding book selection, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and pleasing store layout,. I appreciate them tremendously for their support of authors and the community. They have numerous author events. They have been hugely helpful to the community in another way, which might require their permission to publish.
Jason Fracaro
Love this place. Ordered a used book that was marketed as "Like New" and the book was delivered as described. Wonderful value.
Also, I was impressed as they packed the book in a way so that there would be no issues of wear and tear through transit; a much better job than Amazon's packing!
jon hinton
This is one of the greatest bookstores in the Twin Cities, It seems that the Used inventory of books is decreasing and there seems to be a broader selection of New books. I think that the charm of Magers was always the amazing selection of used books. Unfortunately Magers seems to be moving in the direction of a New bookstore and loosing all of it appeal.
Daniel Garcia
Here is your task: Think of a subject, be as broad or specific as possible. Now enter this store and slowly make your way into the high ceilinged second room (yes, it goes further than it seems at first) all the while looking at tables, shelves, and cases around you, taking whatever path you wish. If you haven't found anything yet, go all the way to the back wall of ever replenished bargain books. These may have scuffs on the covers or are forgotten oddities but otherwise are fine, good books (and games, tapes, dvds, etc ) to now finally find your fated tome. For $1 to $5 each, you must now get back out to the street without spending over $20. Good luck, I rarely leave without a month's full of head food.
Cheryl Ottinger
What a great bookstore! So many knooks and crannies filled with a plethora of books from floor to ceiling!
Jeff M
Unfortunately I have never been there. My experience was online. the book I ordered was in wonderful condition and the manner that it was shipped to me was exemplary. Five Stars!
M. Ashe Van Steenwyk
Solid bookstore with a good blend of new and used. In terms of general selection, they are unrivaled in the Twin Cities, though Midway beats them in used options. Otherwise, you need to go to specialty bookstores (like Loome for theology, Uncle Hugo's for SciFi/Fantasy, etc).
Virginia Mott
I love independent book stores and this is a good one. Nice selection of new and used book. Great place to spend a few hours. The staff was very helpful.
Dean J. Seal
Magers and Quinn is the last of the Great Independents. They have a literate staff, they have the latest great stuff, their customer service is flawlessly polite. They buy books at good price, and they care about the world. 5 stars all the way.
K Kosin
Magers & Quinn has vast selection of books, many of them masterpieces of literature. Love that they offer both cheap paperbacks and collectible editions, and even have fun author events. Uptown would not be the same without this bookseller.
David Young
Such a wonderful book store. The used book prices aren't rock bottom, but they consistently carry only used books in great condition. The selection is unbeatable.
Jordan Carrell
Great place to browse and find new or used books. Love the ladders on rails and has that great smell of books when you walk in the door. One of the best booksellers I've ever been to.
