First rate bookstore for a mid sized city without a major college. Prices are very reasonable, roughly 15-25% lower than I find in my hometown. I was in a bit of a time crunch, but I still dropped $50 even after a short visit. Definitely worth a look if you are coming through town - I will be back.

I love this place! Most used book stores are very unorganized and chaotic. Hyde brothers is not that. They are Super organized and they have a wide array of topics arranged nearly. Prices are good too. They even have online sales of boxes of books that they will pick for you of different genres.

This is my go-to bookstore here in Fort Wayne, I love the booksellers, the cats, and the serendipity of running across something wonderful. The independents are long gone and the nearest B&N was recently moved and reopened as a mere shadow of its former iteration. So if I can't find it here I head back to the Ann Arbor indies where I'm warmly welcomed by people I know and, one way or another, they get me what I came for, as well as a pile of items that I didn't know I had to have. I'd love to find an independent in this state. Let me know if you know of one.

In a world where novels are being digitized, national bookstore chains have pushed independent stores out, only to have themselves reduced to a smaller space, and Amazon is keeping people home with their computers, it is nice to know that Hyde Brothers is still here and going strong. While it may have changed hands over the years, to the fan of the printed page, it hasn't changed. When you enter this quaint shop you know that you are someplace special. With row after row, wall after wall, and room after room, you can find everything from romance to auto repair. And many of these books cannot be found at chain stores. These are rare books, yearbooks, out-of-print books, and childhood books. This is a destination. And when you go, be sure to close the door behind you so you don't let the cats out.

One of the workers, presumably the owner, was rather rude in his speaking to another employee about us waiting to be served. He didn't realize that we were within earshot. That's not good business. Fortunately, the younger workers were very kind and considerate.

This is, by far, my favorite bookstore in Fort Wayne. It packed from floor to ceiling with books, and that's just the ground floor. You can go downstairs into a labyrinth of books. They have rare finds and great prices. I highly recommend taking the time to visit and explore this bookstore.

Always an adventure. Staff is very friendly and is as helpful as they can be! The kitties are also great company when you just want to chill and read for a while. Generally the only thing that will croud you in are books. The midnight openings are a real treat! Lots of people, friendly faces. Just be patient and also dress lightly, it gets hot in there with all those bodies!

One of my favorite places in all of Fort Wayne. It's everything I want in a bookstore. Two levels of floor to ceiling books laid out in an almost labyrinthine manner, complete with a bookstore cat lazing about. It's warm, inviting, and I could spend an entire afternoon lost in this magical space. Not the place to find a very specific book, but the place to find the book you didn't know you needed.

I love this store so much. Always hidden gems everywhere. Dude at the front wasn't very friendly but he did his job well. My favorite area is the scifi section in the basement. Its MASSIVE. Oh, and the prices are on the top right corner of the front page right inside the cover. Good prices and books are typically in great condition.

A magical used bookstore out of Belle’s dreams complete with cats and a basement labyrinth! You might not find exactly what you’re looking for but you will stumble on an even better book. This place is worth the hours you’ll lose browsing for the perfect find. Plus the resident cats might visit you for a nose boop!

Hyde Brothers has been my favorite book store for 20 years. It has interesting choices in most areas of interest. I plan to spend a lot of time when I get a chance to shop. I always find something I didn't know existed, but that I want. I particularly like the children's section. My son likes military history. I've bought beautiful volumes of classics. If you are a reader, Hyde Brothers is a wonderful place.

After brunch at Klemm's, my friend and I wanted to browse Hyde Brothers—we both ended up leaving with a nice armful of books. This was my first visit to the store (her first), and we both had a great time and found some wonderful titles. If I could, I would give a bonus star for the friendly shop cat, who plopped down on the floor next to me as I was browsing some books on a low shelf.

Loved Hyde brothers. Went on a date there last week and It was a great experience being there. So many books it was hard to decide. In the end I ended up picking up a mystery novel and a star wars book. The only reason I give this place 4 stars is because I would like to see a bigger Manga collection. Took a walk from the downtown Hilton over here to check out some local books, and we were thrilled with the selection! Super warm, friendly owner and a shop kitty to say hello to - how could we not be pleased?! I was impressed with the Native American section and found a few treasures to take home. This place is huge I didnt have enough time to explore before they closed. They have an entire basement full of books too and an adorable kitty that roams freely. I came here because a friend of mine collects vintage math books and it's his birthday. I found a couple that are over 100 years old. They have a mega collection of antique Fort Wayne and Indiana history books and glass cases full of other antique books. They have an entire section that have American history books categorized by president or war. I randomly found an old copy of The Second Amendment Primer that I ended up purchasing. I honestly can't wait to go back.

It's fun to browse here, very good prices sobirs easy to stock up; and, for those that like cats (my stepdaughter) they have 1 or 2 of those slinking around too. If you are a true book lover and want to venture into a wonderland of charm and nostalgia, then this is your book store. The owners are turly passionate about their store. They know almost every nook and cranny, and if they don't have it, they also possess the connections to acquire it! This is truly a book store of dreams. Make the trip and spend a couple hours in awe as you peruse to your heart's content.

This oasis of books is seemingly endless in all they have. Serendipity leads you to things you never thought you would find and it is a wonderful experience to come here! The kitties here and also very nice so you can pet them gently as you begin to sort through and find what all you need/want for books. The basement is a beautiful labyrinth of knowledge and fun. Their midnight sale every year in december is one of the nicest ways to be around a lot of people who are all just wanting to get books too so everyone I have found to be very polite. I love it here, come here to sell books and movies, come here to buy others.

From its wonderful whimsical warning sign of "Please don't let the cats out!" on both entrances to its beautiful history and display of ENDLESS(AND YES I MEAN ENDLESS) of books(from the old to the new) to buy at a VERY reasonable price! Their shelves are stacked from the floor to the sealing with millions of titles and authors, hobbies and history, even the basement is full with the maze of the wonder of the world! Hyde Brothers is an amazing book store— not only does the shop have a good selection, but it has great character that makes it a destination for book shopping and not just s chore. Whether it’s the old library track ladders or the shop cat, you’ll find yourself looking for books for hours. My girlfriend found a first edition of To Kill a Mockingbird here, so they definitely have good stock.

Still Fort Wayne's finest Used Bookstore. The prices vary wildly according to rarity and demand, but there is not a single bookstore in town that can compare to the selection. The books are all priced as marked, so do not expect a Bargain Bin type sale.

While I was sitting in the store, a cat climbed onto my lap, and then climbed onto my shoulder as I was reading a book, and chilled there for a few minute. When I came in, an employee asked me to leave my bag at the front. I obliged, but when I was leaving to pay and collect my bag, there was another employee working who had no idea the bag was mine. Anyone could have walked off with it. Book prices are okay, but not super competitive.

This store is adorable! They do have bookstore cats, so if you have allergies be aware of this before going in. I was expecting the prices to be lower than they were (like maybe a few dollars per book or less), but they are closer to actual book pricing. I found a copy of an Alice Walker poetry collection that you can buy new for $10 to $15 on Amazon or other bookstore. I'm not sure why the prices are so high on some of the books (especially ones with writing and/or highlighting in them - a few books I found in the poetry section had this and were priced around $15) and lower on others. The bookstore itself is cute and totally worth stopping at just to see it as a touristy stop for booklovers, even if you don't plan on buying anything. Oh, and they do have a basement area with tons of graphic novels and old tabletop game master books! Check those out if you're into those :)

I bought a large set (the writting of jacob arminus in three volumes) from Hyde Brothers through abebooks. There was a slight mistake in the description of the set, but they handled it so politely and swiftly that I am actually even more likely to recommend them had there never of been a mistake. Mistakes are unavoidable from time to time no matter what. But its difficult to make a mistake and still leave your customer feeling so well respected and happy! Could not recomend them more!
