There is no shop like BDS in Fargo. You have no idea what you'll find, but it's guaranteed you'll find something. There are HUNDREDS of great finds. Classics, poetry books, original copies, mystery novels, cookbooks, you name it. The owner is so kind. Selling books here was a great experience, and he offers you fair prices. Definitely will be back!

I was greeted at once by meandering rows of overburdened bookshelves, and the ever enticing aroma of old pages filled with knowledge, not yet attained. The isles seemed to stretch all the way to the end of the room and beyond. And there were books stacked in piles from the floor up, in-between rows and in every possible direction. In that moment, I was filled with a fictional wonder that only the likes of Lewis, Tolkien, or Rowling could evoke. The proprietor was a sprightly and knowledgeable old fellow with gray hair and glasses. He wasn’t entirely odd, but not entirely normal either. And that appealed to me. Such are those who know the Rubaiyat by name; and he did. During our first exchange he was a little disgruntled and terse, but I was fast spoken and quick to respond for a man of his age and speed. The pace of those who move in tandem with the modern world can be an assault to those who’ve mastered the noble virtue of slowing down. But after matching his stride and keeping with it, he spoke to me eagerly and with kindness. And I to him. I suspect he’s the sort of person who prefers the aloofness that such a quaint establishment provides; quietly sorting, diligently organizing, using secret magic to move boxes here, and there 😉 And resting, hidden just behind a mountain of books serving as the checkout counter. This place is FULL of books. You probably won't find what you're looking for, but just ask the owner, he knows exactly which aisle and shelf to find a book on. Not too pricey either.

A wonderful store with a very helpful owner. There are rows and rows of books with boxes of books all over. Old books, new books, books about tattoos, books on religion, wild west books. He has them all. The only thing missing is a comfy chair to enjoy your soon to be new book in!

Even though there are thousands of books stacked floor to ceiling, the proprietor knows exactly where each subject is located. He is very friendly, and will answer any questions you might have without hesitation.

What a fantastic bookstore. Great prices, fun to explore, a HUGE selection (including newer books, which many used bookstores don't have in my experience) and great sales. I got 11 books (from the last five years if not more recent and all in perfect condition) for a little over $60! The owner is absolutely wonderful as well! I always question bookstores whose employees aren't voracious readers, and he knew several of the books I was buying already. I would come here every day if I could!

Don't let the askew stacks and winding aisles turn you away. The eccentric owner, Brad, knows his store better than the back of his hand. You ask him, and he knows if he has it and exactly where it is located. This is the Only place I go for books in Fargo.

The selection is extensive, and the owner made sure to ask me as I came in if I was looking for any book title in particular. He knows his store very well, as he immediately pointed out which section to look in and walked me to that area so I could find the book (and I ended up finding a few more). Very nice experience and will be back.

I loved this place from the moment I walked through the door! It's a big room packed with books, and with the wonderful smell of books, and it's easy to spend much longer there than planned as one gets lost amidst the shelves! The owner knows where everything is - he knows his stock well - and there's a great selection of books in many categories. I found many appealing titles in stock. I just wished there weren't so many still in boxes on the floor.

It felt like going into a new world with so many books everywhere. I found more than I was hoping to find abd ended up with tons of books. Definitely will be going back and is my new favorite book store in Fargo. Prices were fair and there was a wide selection. The owner was nice too. Only downside was it was a bit cramped but not enough where you felt uncomfortable.

The first time I came here, I was amazed at the selection of books. Brad, the owner, is friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and passionate about books. His assistant is helpful, too. I believe the prices are fair and prices on some books are marked down eventually (to make room for new inventory, I would guess). I'm happy that there is such a great, locally-owned book store serving Fargo.

The owner is a delight and it is a piles-in-the-aisle kind of store. Found every single book I needed for a lit class and several more I would have loved. My only complaint is the teeny craft section. My wonderful chat with the owner about classical lit was worth the trip!

Huge variety of books to choose from. Their books are reasonably priced. The gentleman that was working was very helpful...awesome customer service. Definitely gonna be my go to bookstore.

I went there because the used bookstore I was planning on going to was closed. I was surprised by how much inventory there was, how it was all alphabetically organized I will never know. It had all the topics I like and way more. The owner was super nice and was really helpful. I liked the fact there were lots of books on the history of the Midwest that weren't those thin paperbacks.

The owner is a real treasure. While it may look like chaos when you walk in he can tell you exactly where everything is and where to find it. This place is a hidden gem and if you're looking to get rid of books, it may now be as profitable as selling them individually to private vendors but to be honest you're contributing to local business and this is Covid. Make sure you help them out. We did and I couldn't be happier about this decision.

Probably the best book store I've ever been to. The selection is phenomenal and you could get lost perusing for hours. I found a rare copy of an obscure book that ive been looking for for a while and was pleasantly surprised by the price. The owner is extremely knowledgable and is a great resource for recommendations. 10/10

This place is amazing! The books are well priced and there are thousands to choose from. Everything from classics to King to textbooks and all the in-betweens. There so many beautiful collector books as well. And the owner is fun to interact with! Please stop in. Your only regret will be needing more bookshelves at home!

The store is a mess; very cluttered. It has a great selection of odd, rare and out of print books. The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable. Every time I go there I buy four or five books. It's my favorite used book store in the Midwest.

After explaining this to the owner, he ran around gathering books he thought my son would like, even including series' I had neglected to mention! I LOVE BDS Bookstore! They usually always have the book I'm looking for and at a really great price! The man that owns the bookstore is very helpful and very friendly! Weird place. Has a really cool feel of an old dusty library. If you love books you will want to check it out. Don't attempt to visit if you have any impediment to walking, the aisles are narrow and books are stacked EVERYWHERE.

The old book smell wafts across your face the moment you open the door at B.D.S. Books. Don’t let the piles of books everywhere fool you into thinking this place is disorganized. The proprietor, Brad, is WICKED SMART, and seems to know every tome inside and out. He will help you find what you are looking for. One day I went to B.D.S. looking for a biography of Shakespeare. Not only did Brad have the biography I was searching for, but he recommended a second, (and, as it turned out, superior) biography written by a man he had seen lecture when he spent time abroad studying at Oxford. Since they were so reasonably priced, I purchased both. My favorite part about shopping at B.D.S. Books is finding treasures I would not have found at corporate bookstores. I might go looking for something specific, but I also always find something unique and wonderful while I’m there. B.D.S. Books is a must-shop for book lovers in the FM area.

I love books, and this store is a blessing to the Fargo Moorhead area. At first glance it may seem like a massive pile of literary chaos; but that is just the entrance. The piles of books that rise all around the front counter is the front counter. Behind it you will find the owner who is as much a gift to bibliophiles as is his establishment. I do believe he is an autodidact, because I can mention a portion of a title and maybe the phonetic equivalent of the author and he walks straight to it. The shelves not overcrowded, and they are meticulously placed in Alphabetical order, with each Genre flowing into the next in a natural way. There are even sub categories. If you have never been to a real used book store, then I recommend stopping in; just for the experience. Who knows, you may find a treasure that has been waiting for you on one of the shelves.

This gentleman has just about any book you need. He knows all about what is being searched for. Love how there is so many books they do not fit on the shelving. Adds to the atmosphere of the shop. I highly recommend this shop for personal gain as well as gift giving.

This is one of those treasure trove book stores. Think stacks to dive into and shelves to explore. Definitely set aside at least an hour just to get started. Huge variety and especially large section of local history.
