Homeward Bound Books has a great selection and the stock seems to move pretty frequently, so it's definitely worth checking back in regularly. Also, Joe is very friendly and helpful! Always enjoy coming in the Charleston store, whether it's to browse the records or books. One of my favorite places in Charleston, hands down.

Homeward Bound is a “sweet spot” on the East End of Charleston. The proprietor, Joe Solomon, has created an array of book nooks across the state, with the store in Charleston as the flagship.
The collection on the shelves is carefully curated by Joe himself and then arranged in topical categories.
Because there is limited space in the shop, the only books that find their way to the shelves are quality finds, and gently used.
Given the ridiculously high price of new books it is a blessing to have Homeward Bound here.
Parking is easy in this uncrowded area of the city, and there is even a nice little dog park next door that I enjoy going to.
While there you can browse the huge collection of LPs at Sullivan Records. (If you don’t know what an LP is, ask your father :-)

Homeward Bound Books was a find! It shares space with a lovely used record store in the East End of Charleston, WV (which itself is an unexpected find for many...both the record store and Charleston itself). The impresario was in and gave me a personal tour of the books, all of which are chosen individually...not bought in bundles as is the case in many used book stores. The selection was eclectic and thoughtful. Several young men from a town outside of Charleston came in while I was there. They said they came to Homeward Bound whenever they were in Charleston; we had a delightful conversation. For content, ambience and more, I STRONGLY advise you to head to Homeward Bound.

A 4-star record shop and 2-star bookstore.
Homeward Bound Books doesn’t exist. It is more accurate to say Sullivan’s Records (same address) shelves a small selection of used books.
As a record store (with a few used books) Sullivan’s is top notch - and friendly. It should show in a search for used books in Charleston, but cease to do business as Homeward Bound, or a bookstore at all.

I absolutely LOVE Homeward Bound Books, it literally feels like home and could get lost in the back book nook for hours! This is a true gem in our community and we are lucky to have such a unique space on the East End! Homeward Bound Books shares space with Sullivan Records so it's doubly worth checking this place out! PS the staff is super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable!

One of my favorite places to look for reading gems. Their selections are carefully curated and I always find something on my list. My husband loves to browse the vinyl while I look through the used books. It's a perfect date night activity!

If you're looking for regional topics, West Virginia history, coal, environmental, cultural, well-written scholarly books; you're coming to the right place. Yes, its relatively a small batch of books, but the cream of the crop!! And very reasonably priced. I came thru out of town and picked up two armfuls of books and was very happy!

Great place for used books! Little nooks like this are a local treasure, so support them rather than corporate behemoths - not to mention names, but one begins with "A."

I am very pleased to participate in this way of building community by exchanging books in an innovative way. The combination of grass roots connections among businesses, and the organization of it is such a good thing. Thanks!

A gem on the East End, I often head to Sullivan's/Homeward Bound to check out their selection of vintage records and books.
